09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away! Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcasts, the longest running New York Jets podcast ever. My name is Jake, and joining me for the hundred and eighty first time, is that correct? A lot of times. Is Justin, Justin and I doing today? Fantastic. And take it-y-tastic. Yeah. Another day in the life of a jet fan. Whoo! Just doing awesome. Rolling along. Just doing my thing. Taking it slow. Sucks balls. Just taking it slow man. Taking it day by day. So we're back after a couple weeks. We did some of the predictions of what we thought in our Free Agency Frenzy podcast. But now we're back because the Free Agency Frenzy has happened. And we have, we know now what the Jets are going to do. And so we're gonna go through all of the Jets news and or the free agency signings or losses and kind of say, you know, big deal, little deal, no deal. Okay. Okay. I think that sounds good. Sounds good. Are we going to talk about any of this, like, news? Yeah, sure that's that's going on. Can I ask you about a little news first about the NFL? Yes, and your take on on on something so You know, there's been some rule changes. Yes that have happened Over the course of the last couple days. Tuck rule gone. Tuck rule's gone. Happy to see that gone. I don't know, I was never a fan of the tuck rule. I think I actually saw it taking like three times. I've only saw it affect three times. Everybody knows it for one game. But like, whatever. That shit is a fumble. That's a fumble. That's a fumble. It's a fumble. I don't care if you used tuck, fuck that. That was a fumble. And it is a fumble. Until at which time it hurts the Jets and then I'll say where's the fucking duck rule? All right No, there's no butt fumble rule. There's no butt fumble rule that would be completely different So what do you think of this whole? Helmet rule the running back in the open field or runner in the open field Leading with the helmet into a defense into a defensive player I think it's dumb. Like how do you, how do you not lead with your helmet if you're running in the open field and a guy standing in front of you? Like if you don't lean down or lean in or duck You're gonna get the shit kicked out of you Like they're just gonna they're gonna take your legs out They're gonna just completely take you out if you can't if you can't like lean in or drop down
02 Jake: How do you drop down to lean in without leading with your head? It's really hard It's kind of like the stupid same stupid rule where the defense's receiver Where it's like helmet leading with the helmet like it's Half the time you're not leading with your helmet, you're leading with your shoulder, but your helmet happens to touch the guy's armpit, and it's like 15 yards. I feel like this is gonna be a lot of like 15 yard, killer drive penalties the other way. I actually don't think this will ever get called. I hope it never gets called. I feel like this would be so hard to call in such a judgment call that I just don't think it's gonna get called. And it just seems... Yeah, I don't know. And I guess it's coming from this one play that Trent Richardson play where he just barrels into some Eagles player and pops his helmet off. And they're looking at one playing going, oh, you see? That happened. You're like, yeah, but I've also seen a guy slip on the open grass trying to run after somebody and blow out his knee. Like... Are we gonna ban grass, ban slipping, ban running? I mean, it just, that one just seems dumb. I'm kinda reading a little bit more about the rule, and it's not necessarily as bad as we're making it out to be. It's leading with the crown of the helmet, which is the very top. But again, the difference between... But if you lead with like the side or your face mask, that's okay. So it's a really weird judgment call that's gonna get called wrong right in a big spot That's gonna piss everyone off and instead of dealing with sort of I did with I think they make the change on the flag Double flag they didn't make that change the you mean the the challenge. Yeah the chip double challenge. I don't know where that came out I heard something that they were gonna revisit it they they didn't have a a At the time at which I heard about it. They didn't have a like what it was gonna be But they oh here we go. I'm seeing some some stuff here. So so the NFL owners today voted to change the rules so that if a play is gonna be reviewed automatically It's like a scoring play or a turnover or something like that. Whatever the referee will still They will still review the play regardless right so so thank goodness for that right the plays going to be reviewed That was the shame of that whole Schwartz thing was that fuck penalize them some other way But review the fucking plagues you got it wrong yeah wrong right so so Let's see what what are they gonna because I thought they were gonna actually get penalized somehow They're gonna do it, da da da da, the rule, da da da da da. You know what's the best part of this podcast? Listening to you read and go da da da da. You know, I thought that they were going to penalize the coach some way by like maybe taking a timeout away from him or a 15-yard penalty or something, but from what I'm reading, they're just going to review it anyway, so that's no longer a penalty.
02 Jake: That's good. That's a good thing. Because that sucked. And that sucked. I was watching that game on Thanksgiving and it just, you know, that sucked. That blew for the Lions. The momentum shift was crazy. I mean, here's a, you know, a five, six yard run. That's not a yard. Yeah, that's a big swing. Alright, let's talk about the Jets Freight. Talk about the Jets. I just want to say something. To start off this. Start it off K T Everything I see the Gitz doing has everything to do with the 2014 season and nothing to do with the 2013 season. This to me looks like just... it doesn't matter. This season coming up... Other than evaluating, this is going to be the biggest preseason we've ever had. It's going to be an entire, what is it, 16 plus 4. It'll be 20 games, is that right? 20 games of preseason. Whereas we're going to watch players, we're going to see what they're doing. We're going to see what's going on. We're going to be excited by some guys. We're going to know that those guys aren't going to be on our team. But it just looks to me like everything they're doing between signing... like guys for, you know, either just one year replacements, letting a lot of the one year guys go. Just it's, it looks like a total rebuild starting in 2014 when they'll fire Grex Ryan, get rid of Sanchez, and in comes new coach, new, new quarterback, and they will have built the pieces around it. It just and- the Put into motion right now by the general measure. I think I think it's a just agree or just I don't think I really agree with it. You don't? I don't really agree that this is, because the parameters of the NFL, the current NFL are so always changing, and because the players are always changing, and because someone being hurt can take you from one place to the other. I don't I believe in the long haul, but I also just don't believe that you just fuck over a season. Just say whatever the season's gonna be nothing. We're not gonna do anything to try to be competitive this season. And I think it's because he's in the space he's in. The reason I don't agree with it, because I think they'll end up getting rid of a good coach. And I think they'll end up... we'll end up being back to square one.
00 Jake: And next, not this year, but next year, when we're sitting here doing this podcast, we'll be at square one. And I'll be like, fuck, here we are again. Square one again. Let me take the opposite stance. And not only because I wanna take the opposite stance to make the podcast better, a but because I actually think that he's doing the right thing. Okay. So I'm going to ask you to look around the league. And think about the successful teams around the league. Pudding Lou, Pudding Lou, Pudding Lou, Pudding Lou. Okay. That's me. And do the successful teams around the league make, for the most part, do they make big splash free agent signings? Do they nab big time players from other teams for big time contracts? Do they go out and do that? or do they nibble around the edges? Get good value where they can and build through the draft. I agree with all that, but no, no, no, no, they do. They don't sign, the teams that are generally that become. That sustain success. success. n n n n n n n n n n n They stick to them because eventually the plan starts to work and the pieces start to land. What I'm concerned is, again, this is what I... It's not so much about the players, it's just that I think you're setting... This team is being set up to fire Rex Ryan to wipe the slate and to bring in a John Isaac head coach next year and to start again. And that's what I think is the problem. Now let me ask you... Do you think that that's actually the worst thing in the world? Because I I will I'll put you in the DeLorean and we'll go back four years ago DeLorean didn't make that sound Fuck capacitors behind you. We'll go back four or five years ago whenever it was. Yes When we started, with the rookie head coach and rookie quarterback. And a clean slate. I mean, what happened? Yeah, they got to the FC championship twice, two years in a row. Not the worst thing in the world. Those were two really fun seasons. I know, but they're never gonna win that way. They're never gonna win the big game that way. But the setup, what they're doing right now... And I totally agree with it is waiting for the chips to fall, the big chips, the big time money guys right with big time guaranteed. The Mike Wallace's of the world, which I think is a bad signing for Miami.
00 Jake: Oh, yeah. He's not that good. And you've just locked up a ton of money in the future, which prevents you from doing it. By the way, you got rid of someone who was better than Brandon. Marshall was better than it was better. Much better. That's what's crazy. You want and the big. Receive that and go over all that stuff? Yeah, you had him. He was on your team. He was better, right? He was better than this guy. You had him. Yeah. Oh, they traded him. Oh, they traded him, sorry. Looks like it probably didn't get what they should have for him. But anyway, now you sign this guy to big money. Fine. On. I don't think the Dolphins approach, right, of throwing big money at that guy, throwing big money at this guy, throwing big money at this guy, is actually the way to win. But that's the way we did the first two years. That's how we went to the FC Championship, by the way. Not really. First it was LT and Bart Scott. Not true. Not true. Not true. Not true. Well first year it was Bart Scott. Bart Scott was it. No Jim Leonard. Bart Scott. Jim Leonard's not a big, Jim Leonard's not a big. At the time he was? Rewind. At the time he was? Not even close. What you owe 2008 2009 It's not like Jim Leonard was his big-time free agent signing It wasn't like he was on the top of anybody's list. He was on the top of Rex Fine Bart Scott Lawrence Coles Jim Leonard and you're not giving me big names here buddy, Brendan Moore He was already on the team. No, sorry. I'm looking I'm absolutely I mean, you're not giving me big names left Howard Green Donald's trip one. Yeah big names. These are huge signings. I think it was the year before hold on big time Yeah, I mean look they didn't go out and go Pace that was big at the time Damien Woody was big at the time. We paid him a lot of money Tony Richardson Those were big full back. For big money? It was just splashy at the time. Not that splashy. 2010, I like this little thing. This tracker is great. We went for Tomlinson. Right, because they lost Toma's choice. Jason Taylor. Not a big thing. Mark Brunell, Lawrence Lowry, no, no, those are not good ones. Yeah, I don't know if like going after any of these big name guys makes you any better. I think it just straps you in the end. Last year was Landry. You know, one year deal. A lot of one year. The first second. Chas Jones. This year is, we were dealt the cards, we had to play the hand we were dealt. And for this year, unfortunately, we had to let some guys go. And guess what? We let guys go from a six and 10 football team. So if you're going to cry over, you know, Dustin Keller being gone or if you're going to cry over. OK, let's go. We have the list in front of us.
00 Jake: We have the list. And we're going to go through. Let's go through the guys who left. No, let's just go through all. All right, fine. Willy Cologne. You have to say people that Brandon Moore. Brandon Moore. Hasn't left yet. He still could be signed. What do you think? He's left. He's not on the jets. Right, but he hasn't been signed yet. Hasn't been signed anywhere. I don't... To me, Brandon Moore and Willie Colon are just swaps. They're swapping them. Well, I mean, kind of. I think Brandon Moore is probably a little better than Willie Colon. He also is a much more consistent... Like, Willie Colon is an injury waiting to happen. Like he's gonna get injured. That's it. If you're slotting him in there as you're starting left guard or starting right guard Well, they're not prepared to they're gonna be prepared to have the backup ready to go In week seven or whatever because the guy just gets hurt every year. He's good when he plays He's just not good because he gets hurt all the time um brandon moore is a guy that So this is the strategy just wait wait wait wait wait and eventually you'll sign them for like, you know Some minimum type stuff like hey, dude Come on back if you want. Here's the deal Otherwise, see you later like that's it Ron Landry was gonna go. Yeah, cuz we couldn't pay him What he was gonna get and he got his money and he I'm okay self and he won He was a one-year wonder we knew when he signed him. He's one-year wonder I didn't think he'd play the whole season the point is we thought that we were gonna do it last year and we didn't So whatever Dustin Keller he's gone this surprised me She signed a one-year deal. Yeah, but like four million dollars really surprised me that they actually let him go for four million really That's a lot of money to pay for one guy for one for one year four million. That's not that's not you know I feel like we could have probably signed him if he wanted to be here I feel like this was like he wanted to get out of here type of thing Bye. But are you gonna cry over dust and tell her leaving out? I'm not. I like dust and tell her as a player. I don't think he ever lived up to his potential. I think he's good. No, that's true. But he never was great. I always thought, why can some of these tight ends just go nuts and he's not? Sometimes it's Drew Gorges, Tom Brady, that kind of thing. It comes back to that. but still like, you know. Why can't Keller be that good or that open all the time? And, you know, he made some nice plays, but I feel like he was hurt a lot too. He was only hurt this last year. Yeah, I feel like he was banged up over the years. I think the problem was when he came out, we needed the more run and gun, or the ground and pound guy. and he was never a great blocker. There was this thing coming out of the draft was he wasn't a very good blocker. Yeah, he was a receiver really. He was a receiver. So then he kind of, you know, in a thing that we're not using him a lot. Yeah, I don't know. I'm sorry, because I liked his personality and he's kind of, Yeah, I liked Dustin Kelly. And he's the guy we drafted and we first round.
00 Jake: He moved up to get. Yeah, so. Traded up to get. So when you. Same thing with Sean Green, who's the next guy on this list, which is kind of the shame of the whole thing is. That's it. Thanks for watching. Like we traded picks away to get these guys and now they're gone like a few years, you know after their rookie deals, right? So you trade up to get guys you keep them through the rookie deals and you have You don't have the guys that you traded away to get right these fictional draft pick guys And you don't have them either. No way to pleats the team, but it just looks like they weren't as good as what you thought they were going to be. If they were, you would have kept them. Well, in Dustin Cutler's first round pick. Sean Green's third round pick. Third round pick. Yeah, you trade up to get a third round running back fine. You're not giving up much, but you're giving away depth and, you know, special teams type players. Sean Green going to Tennessee, fine. Don't care. That was just way too much money for Sean Green if you ask me. Um, you know, three years, 10 million. That's that's a decent chunk of change for a backup running back. Well, that's the thing. He wasn't our backup running back. It was their backup right now. He's their backup. Yeah. He'll probably use him more than a typical backup. Like they'll go into a, you know, you know, thunder and lightning kind of mode. Right. Right. Like. Tiki Barber and Rondaine. But neither one of these players is that. C2K is whatever. Bart Scott gone. That's fine. Cut. Nobody's picked him up. Whatever. He's gone. Jason Smith same thing. Cut. Gone. Nobody picked him up either. I can see us re-signing Jason Smith at a real cheap... cheapo cheapo rate as like a you know a backup tackle just you're the backup tackle we're not going to see that you know that that um 63 is eligible 63 is eligible play this year because that is not the style of offense that morning league is going to be running you're not going be seeing the whole jumbo, you know. He's lined up as a tight end 20 plays a game. You know, you got the sixth the sixth man award Right for the for the offensive lineman. It's not gonna happen. They're not gonna play that way Uh, let's see about guys going we're skipping guys coming in right now. We just know we're going all going in order All right, so antonio garay or gary Gray Gary. Yeah, this guy had 11 sacks last year or two years ago. Was it two years ago? Last year? No, I think you're you're confusing him with the other guy that we signed. We signed two guys from San Diego. Oh, OK, you're right. So this is the oh, Antoine. This is the inside defensive line. Right. It was just kind of like the Mike DeVito replacement. Right. OK. Cheaper version has had some success. Was on the Jets practice squad like three or four years ago. So they knew him. They knew him. They signed him Bell bell. Okay, we have no safeties. Yeah, we have basically the rookies um We have no safeties and then there's like five guys in a row who we cut and are just sitting out there I'm, I thought some of these had been signed, but I guess none of them have nope. So one of these is is
06 Jake: Austin Howard, I feel like He's... Well, we put a tender on him. Oh, we tendered him. He probably just didn't sign it yet. Right. Okay, fine. So, Calvin Pace, you know how I thought Calvin Pace was gone. I thought Calvin Pace was gone. I thought Calvin Pace was gone. No. That's Slauson. Slauson is still hanging around. I feel like we'll sign either Slauson or more, right? One or the other. I think I'd rather just sign Slauson just because of the age. Um... you I don't know. We'll see the line is kind of a matter of Smith. I never want to see again Yeah, Eric Smith could go away DeVito signed with the Chiefs. That's you know, there's the connection there Bob Sutton was the He was the defensive coordinator under man off because we signed one of these guys. Okay. Okay Maybe it's a little older outdated Mike. So he went to the Chiefs the Chiefs are Chiefs are retooling. Oh, shit. You know, but Bob Sutton, I think I think that's his name. He was the defensive coordinator under man, Jeannie. Right. And then he was the line. He stayed on as the linebacker coach under rec for all these years. He knew DeVito. They signed him over there with the Chiefs. OK, OK, fine. Brown and Edwards still hanging around. Nick Folk, I think we signed. We did, we signed Nick Folk to a one year deal. Great, he's back. Fine, kick it. For Ellen Edwards, I think they should sign too, to another one year, you know, lead minimum, one year deal. Some bonus. That's fine. David Garard, we signed, woohoo. Yeah, this is the one that I actually think is just, with all the quarterbacks that are out there now, I mean, there's- There's the cheapest option. I'm telling you, it's- you They're just going cheap. Right, but then they're not trying to compete. You can't wait a fucking NFL without a quarterback. OK, you have a quarterback on the roster that's making a lot of. You last time you were like, Matt Castle is going to get cut. We should sign Matt Castle. Well, if you sign that castle for four million dollars, then. And you signed David Garard for one million dollars. Well, there's three million dollars that you can use on someone else or somewhere else or to re-sign Rebus or to do whatever the. fuck you're gonna do with it, but not lock in at one position. Because we've already got like 13 million dollars wasted at quarterback. Right. But this goes back to... I bring in... Why... Because you mean you're not gonna be competitive this year. But it's not, it just... You know what it means? It means, guess what? Mark Sanchez, you're gonna be the starting quarterback. And if you can sit there and say, that's over, then you may as well just cut him. You can't you can you can totally cut him You can cut him or you can have him sit on your bench for 13 million dollars You can have him start for 13 million dollars. That's that's up to Jeff. He's better than card so that's better than He's better than all the guys that are out there. I mean really you think he's not better than Fitzpatrick Patrick was terrible I loved when we played the bills. I know but I was terrible last year terrible
02 Jake: I'm laughing stock of the NFL. I could pull laughing stock of the I could point to some reasons why he was terrible Yeah, I mean Marty Gileards your starting wide receiver Justin colors out the whole year. You can't run the ball. You can't There was a lot of factors. I got you these receivers. They brought him Braille and Edwards in week 14. He's starting I think the guy is cut like by three teams. I know but I I watched him just make Way too mental, way too many mental mistakes. Had nothing to do with receivers. It was just like you would throw to where nobody was ever. Maybe someone was supposed to be there, but didn't know because he's been on the team for a week and now he's starting. All right. So you happy with David Garard as you back up? I think so. Just because of the money. Yeah, because of the money. And honestly, I think there will be another guy in there as well competing for it. Yeah, a draft a guy. Cos Tebow's not. The company line of he's still on the roster is bullshit. They're trying to trade him, but they owe him something that they can't, they have to trade him before the draft. There's something that they have to do. He'll be gone soon. Aaron Maben gone. He's on the Bengals fine. Brian Thomas, he should just retire. Here's the guy who you were thinking of before Antoine Barnes. So this guy was with Rex. On the raver and then went to San Diego. He's a specialist. He's an air maven type, right? So he's he's not like a starting outside linebacker, right? The third down rush the passer linebacker and he lost some time last year because uh, San Diego drafted the kid out of Alabama who took some of his time away. Right. Upshaw, I think, or maybe that was Bob. One of- they drafted somebody who took time away from him, so he- his numbers dipped for sure. Uh, so Jeff Cumberland at tight end, I mean we don't have a tight end at the moment. I feel like Cumberland would be a nice fit in the west coast style of offense where the where the The tight end is a receiver. He's really more of a receiver than anything I'm sure that there's other tight ends floating around that we're gonna go to the bargain bin with We resigned our long snapper tanner perdom. Yeah, very important. Chas shillings is hanging out there in the wind He will probably remain there. Why lex hilliard? I have no idea Can't explain the re-signing of Lex Hilliard. Just thought it was a great name. I I don't know I can't explain it I'm just Rex. I guess they wanted a fullback on the roster and Why not? Why not? It's not like there's a lot of fullbacks out there even to be like yeah need a fullback I mean he could sort of catch the ball out of the backfield. He wasn't mad So this next guy Mike Goodson Like this signing I like Mike Goodson I remember watching him two years ago with the Panthers and Having him on a fantasy team because guys were just getting hurt on the he was like the third string guy Yeah, like oh Mike Goodson He had a couple of nice weeks here and then and then you know guys would get healthy and he'd have to sit and then Last year is like oh my goodson. He's backing up McFadden McFadden got hurt
02 Jake: Oh, Mike Woodson got hurt in the same game like right when he got his chance actually think he's Again, for the money, I'd rather have what we did with Goodson than have Sean Green at that money. So, you know. So I like, I like, what's his age? You know how old he is? I don't know how old he is, but I imagine if I click on this thing, he does nothing. I have to be an insider to view his profile. That's crap. Screw you ESPN. Here's my fuck you of the week ESPN. Insider really? I'm paying you to see a- player profile. I feel like he's not as young as we think he is but he definitely has no mileage on the legs. Like he hasn't been a starter. 25. And he hasn't really started. So he's like younger than he thought he was. This is like a breakout. I bet you. He's kind of a breakout candidate. I feel I feel like I'm saying that with total optimism as a jet fan. Of course. But he's got breakout potential. 60210. He's got breakout potential. 25. He could catch the ball out of the backfield. He's fast. He'll be 26 in May. He's a jersey boy. I feel like he's got potential in this offense. And he really hasn't done much. He hasn't done much, no. He hasn't really gotten a shot. He's on Carolina. Behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Right. And then Oakland dude was gonna get a shot last year but got hurt in the same game as McFadden. Right. I think we could strike gold here with this guy. That's what I'm hoping. I feel like there's more upside with him at least, but you know, also someone gets hurt. You never know. Sean Greig really didn't get hurt very often. No, he didn't. He was a good counter. He didn't fumble either. He was good at that. Yeah, he was good at that. Josh Baker out in the wind. Whatever. And Josh, mwah gah. Mwah ugah, he's back. I'm back. I'm back. So it's weird because- Pretty nothing. I mean, jeez. The first two days, it was like the jets just got raped because everyone was defecting and leaving the mass rexodus. And I don't know. I don't really feel like it's been as bad as perceived. Like okay, you lost your starting running back, but he was Sean Green and he had serious limitations. He could not run anywhere but inside and Running for a thousand yards isn't what it used to be No, it's 60 something yards a game right? It's being durable and getting 15 to 20 hours thousand is pretty good. Yeah But he didn't even average four yards a carry. So it's not like... Like he wasn't... worth whatever they... you know, three years, ten million. They didn't want to lock him in. He's also older than you think. He's older than Goodson. He's like twenty-eight. Sean Green's weird. I didn't think he was that old, but he is. Huh. Yeah. Um, again, we're on Landry, we're gonna lose.
01 Jake: That's fine. I wasn't surprised we let Belle go. I kinda thought we would sign him. He signed for nothing. We needed one of them. And we got both of them. I'm really surprised by Belle. That was amazing. Again, the only thing I've heard is this draft has a shit ton of safeties. Oh, we're gonna be drafting one or two of them. Two of them. We'll have the two. Maybe we'll be this year with the two rookie. I'm still holding out hope that we're gonna get Charles Woodson and play him at safety. Ugh. I'm still holding out that hope. Cuz this is what we're not a contender those on point yeah But this is what we're waiting for like guys to just get to the end Like the waves right like the first two waves have kind of right head means still yeah But he wants like six or seven million bucks a year. Yeah The waves and what's still out there all right? Let's talk about some of the biggest signings Okay, the NFL there weren't there wasn't a Mario Williams this year There was no... Well the biggest sign he really was Joe Flacco, which was a Mary Williams. Yeah, but like, Mario wins defensively. Like, at this point, Super Bowl winning quarter... There was no ass raping, because Mary Williams was an ass raping. Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. MVP. Made the playoffs every year in your pro career. Three times in the AFC Championship game, one Super Bowl victory out of five years. Alright. Get your money. Get your money. And that's the quarterback, that's it. He just set the mark for the next quarterback. He set the mark for Andrew Luck or RG3 or Russ Wilson or... Colin Kaepernick or one of those guys when they get to their thing, he just set the mark, right? So let's talk about the AFC's signings. So let's go, instead of going big, let's go, let's go AFC's. Let's start with the bills. Can I get there through this little track deal? Yeah, we just type bills. Maybe just on the, there's a drop down. Oh, there's a drop down. Now. This is nice. I like this. You'd think I'd be really good at technology. Yeah, you think you would. Yeah. To the bill. So what stands out? I mean, to me, cutting Ryan Fitzpatrick was the biggest stand out. That was the biggest stand. They just paid this guy a ton of money. I mean, they threw a lot of money into him and didn't get a whole lot out of him. They also lost... Didn't they lose their safety? Like one of their George Wilson Wilson Wilson's good and Jerry's bird. He's a So he's not going anywhere but but George Wilson's pretty good and and Levitries was one of their better linemen and he's gone now too on the offensive side of the ball I mean it looks here's the thing bills looks like you're restructuring again like they just hired a new coach there They're gonna be doing defensive scheme, which we're gonna be very familiar with. Yep. Get ready, because here comes the three, four bills. You know, that was one thing I was listening to like NFL radio or something, and one of the analysts was like, you know where teams really get screwed? Is when they, from like year to year to year,
02 Jake: change scheme. Right. On defense. Particularly when you go from 3-4 to 4-3 to 3-4. Because it matters to like five or six players. And like big with the personnel, right? So like defensive ends are different. Outside linebackers are different, right? You need more or less. Even the middle linebacker is a different player in the 3-4 than they are in the 4-3. Yep. I mean, like, it's, that really screws teams up. And the Bills have flipped, I think each of the last three years, they went like four, three to three, or three, four to four, three, down back to three, four. It'll be interesting. All right, let's talk about the Dolphins. Let's go to the Fins, because they made splashes. They're basically the- They're the splashy, they're the Miami splashes. Them and, well, a couple things. So one is, It leaked the other day on the interweb that they're going to change their logo. Yes, that leaked. Yes, it leaked. On Twitter. On Twitter. One of the players that signed their contract leaked the logo, right? Yes. So I think they're doing a whole, we're rebranding. Ourselves, so we're gonna go splashy whatever they also talks to redo their state their stadium Yeah, well if they if it goes anything like the way that the baseball stadium went in Miami people are not gonna be happy Right. Well, there's about the baseball stadium. Well, they they got the public to pay for this stadium Yeah, and then the owner went out and spent a shit ton of money in free agency to open up the Like they care they're they're signing all the revenues that they're gonna make from the stadium and actually pay these players and then I think this is this is this team is in flux man They are losing and picking up looks like if you say if you just say who they who they got It's like they got Mike Wallace. They got Hello B. LRB Keller and what's the other one? And yeah... That was really it, right? Those three? Yeah,. The White Walsh was their big splash. But then they lost, like real players. They lost Jake Wong, Dan's B, and Reggie Bush. And Kevin Burnett. I mean, they lost some good players. Right. On their defense. Jake Wong was hurt most of last year. Mike Wallace, I feel like, is an incredible player. I don't know if he's going to be better than he was with Big Ben. I don't know if Ryan Tannehill is that guy. You know what he is? He's a straight line receiver.
00 Jake: I also feel like he's a pay me now and see you later guy. I feel like he disappears. He's a straight line receiver. He doesn't, like when the Jets play the Steelers. And like the Jets have, you know, Reavis Cromartie. Right. He's the guy Cromartie would cover. Yeah, I know. Like, don't waste Reavis on him. Why can't we say Dan's B? Like, he's out there. I feel like he'd probably cost too much money. OK. You know, they signed Brian Hartline to a big year. I want to re-sign, right? Yeah, well, they would. But they signed him. They lost Sean Smith too, I forgot. Right. He's good. One of their corners. I think they lost both their corners. Right, they lost Shawn Smith, who's the good one. And then I feel like they had another corner that they lost. Maybe I'm making that up. Maybe you are. Well, they cut the other one. When I say traded him last year, at the beginning of the season, remember they traded him him. But he was the better of the two. And this was the last. Sean Smith was really good. He went to the Chiefs. The Chiefs just spent like crazy. The Chiefs are crazy. So now let's talk about the Patriots. The Pats and the big story which is... West Walker Walker is gone. West Walker! And in steps Danny Amendola. So straight up West Walker for Amendola. Yeah. Not going to take that trade. Not in year one. I'm not going to take that trade ever. Well, I think you have to look at what Wes Walker was before he got to the pads and where he was in his career and where Danny Amendola is in his career right now. So you feel like... And I think they're in a very similar spot. You're saying Danny Amendola becomes Wes Walker because he goes to the pads. He's not a bad player. He's actually pretty good. No, he's very talented, but he gets hurt constantly. Wow, that's... Wes Walker never got hurt. Well, that's actually... A bit of a misnomer. So let me let me break that down for you for a second. So so Amandola had one year... where he had a Season ending injury, right? It just so happened that it happened in week one. Mm-hmm He had like a broken collarbone, which is kind of like a freak injury, right? Which he broke last year. No, he didn't. Last tree book is cool. Oh, sorry. It was something else. Sorry It was like a torn tricep. Oh one of those one of those things that only Ray Lewis could come back from in five weeks Well dear antlers, whatever. Wes Welker also had a season-ending injury in his career Yes, but it just happened that in week 17. That's true towards ACL. That was after eight years I'm just saying they both had okay season and it wasn't after eight years It was he's been on the pad been on the hats on this Years even he played on the Dolphins for two or three the charge I'm a doll has been in the league for what four or five years now And and I feel like Walker was in the league for like three or four years before he got to the Pats and I feel Like their stats if you just matched him up were virtually the same like for those years look as someone who has to play the pats
00 Jake: twice a year to me this you know I know Wes Welker is better than Amendola just because I've seen what Welker and Brady can do together over the years But I don't feel like Amendola is gonna be that much of a drop-off from what WhatWelker did. I totally disagree with you, but that's okay. He's done four years. Amendola? Yeah, Amendola. What did WhatWelker do before he got to the past? I think he was three at the... Yeah, I just I just don't listen it looks so on the top of it's like hey look actually white guys who play in the slot It's okay, so he's like Wes Walker It's like this right he's basically they replaced him with another guy of the same race I I think they were required to I just don't feel like there's that I don't think there's any uptick. I understand but I'm pissed that they wouldn't come up and match a better number. also the news is the news is that they signed Amadou before First off, this is not an office, it's a studio. Now it's an office. And I was like, really? He had a lot of productivity in that offense with McDaniels in two different places and never had the quarterback that Brady was. It just, he blew monkey chunks last year. Yeah, he wasn't any good, but it didn't cost him anything. Like, it's not like he signed this crazy deal. No, but it was like, it was like this thing that he, that's the biggest thing in the world. All right, give me another. video. We'll be right back. We'll see you next time. Big give me a two of your biggest signings looking down the list that you like. Well, there's one that sticks out at me Leon Washington Because that scares the shit out of me the pads are never very old Yeah, but he's still very good on special teams and that's all he's gonna do is just return kicks for yeah and the Pats aren't really good at that. Right. All they do is against us last year. I know, but they're, they just aren't good at like, if you look at the stats, they're just not like a very good return team. They don't always have a very good returner. Right. He's a specific returner. The other one's
01 Jake: a defection from the Bills, who I think is actually has potential to be a pretty good player, Donald Jones. Like I've you know, I've seen him play a few times obviously against the Jets and he's a guy who can be like, you know a decent like fourth option receiver for them, which is kind of what he is right you got You know, you got the two tight ends and amandola and then you got Donald Jones I mean and they do spread it out. He's gonna have up. He's gonna have an opportunity to shine really if he can. I think he can have a decent year with Brady. I'm hoping that they don't resign some of these these key You know like Sebastian Ballmer. I hope they don't resign him the tackle You know I I I hope and I hope that they um That they just Get stricken with injuries on that offensive line happy to see Danny. We're ahead and leave And it just I wanted I want every time he's every time he's He got on the fucking field against us to be like and Danny Amdol, who just cut right before the end of training or right at the end of training There's two guys that I that I kind of want to sign Julian Julian Edelman I wanted I wanted wood head and I I wouldn't mind signing Julian Edelman away from them because he's also Like he was gonna step into the West Welker right role and he was having a nice season before he went down for the season, so Welcome, Julian Edelman to the New York Jets. You just want an Edelman jersey. I do want an Edelman jersey. Other big ones out there, something that, let's see. Interesting news like Gonzalez coming back to the Falcons. I think the Falcons to me, as a team that was this far away from actually doing things, they basically pulled back in almost everybody and then upgraded their running back from the Michael Turner to Steven Jackson. I feel like the Falcons. And again, they play at home, they play in this dome, they play in this crappy division, they're gonna win their 10 games at least, just by getting on the field. And they get to the playoffs, and they just need to get over the hump. You know who did a nice job? Who? Seattle, yeah. They got Cliff Avril in there. Yeah, they were paid for him, but whatever. They did not overpay for him. What are you talking about? They gave him a big deal. They gave him nothing. thing. Cliff Avril? Cliff Avril got two years and 15 million dollars. Oh, that's not bad. As like a really good defensive end. And that's what they needed because, you know, Clemens went down on that stupid turf. You want to call it a field in for the Redskins in that game. Let's see who else is out there. I mean... You know, the big Joe Flacco is kind of a big one, right? He made that money. We already covered that. I'm looking at guys who signed Greg Jennings.
01 Jake: Now he's still out there. Bradshaw is still out there. Guys who are out there. Greg Jennings went, you know, in division from Green Bay to the Minnesota Vikings. Yeah, that's huge. That's a big one after the Vikings lost Percy Harvins. They replaced him with Greg Jennings. Let's see some other guys who moved. Deshawn Goldson left San Francisco, went to the Bucks, the so-called trading partner for Reavis, for which we've never seen a proposed deal or heard of anything outside of the Bucks or the team. And then the Bucks are losing interest and then the Bucks are gaining interest and it's the Bucks, I guess. Yes. Even Jack Quentin jammer he was a good quiet socks He's always a good corner for we have corners cuz we're trying to cut our corner, but we're not cutting him We're trying to try and trade him. No one's cutting corners cutting corners. Don't cut corners. We're not cutting corners We have chromartia on one side a pro bowler We have Rebus on the other side and all pro and then Kyle Wilson in the in the slot is nice And then you know you get a fourth and a fifth guy or whatever Yeah, and how many times you gonna roll five corners out there? All right. Well, let's wrap this one up speaking of five corners Anything anything else that we need to cover did anything late breaking coming in on the Jets blog? It looks like Brandon Moore is going to visit with the Dolphins. Yeah, we didn't announce that. Alright, well let's call it a day. We'll maybe be back, not next week, but the week after, depending if there's some big free agency thing. But we gotta start getting ready for the draft. The draft is only 36 days away. We need to do some draft prep. We need a little prep. So I'm just telling you right now. I'm going on record right now. We're drafting an outside linebacker. Okay. It's gonna be one of them guys that are like, password specialists. So I'm just giving you the warning that you're gonna need to have some draft knowledge. I just told you what we're doing. Start watching some NFL news. Start watching some outside linebacker. Start watching some NFL news. I want that Mingo guy with the cool first name. I like Mingo. Was it Parkevious or something?
