09 Jake: 3, 2, 1, Go! Welcome to the Jekkino Podcast, the longest running New York guest podcast ever period into sentence. My name is Jake. Joining me in studio 14B, 22F really, is Justin in the echo chamber. Yeah, this is the echo chamber. What's up? Oops. So we are, all right. So last time we implemented a new, we went to a new operating system, then had to do a new garage band. No one cares. Then now I'm on a new computer with a new garage band. No one cares. This is not the podcast for people who care. Justin: Why? They don't care about what computer you're using. They just, they don't care. It's like, hey, we've been gone for three weeks. We're sorry. No, we're not. I am. Because we missed talking about three wins. So we're going to talk about them today. Let's talk about all the wins. Let's talk about all the wins. Let's do it. All the wins. I love the wins. Do you want to like? to set this whole stage or what? I'm just like, just jump right in. Cause I can do that. Well, which games do you want to talk about? Well, I'd like to talk about beating the Giants. Cool. Because I thought that that was a stepping stone. Now the Giants are not a good team. They're two and eight. True, true, true. But the Jets were down in this game in the fourth quarter. We were losing going into the fourth quarter 27-24, and we ended up pulling the game out and winning. We scored the last, I think, 13 points of the game. time. And I thought that was important, and I also thought it was important that Sam Darnold had a good game and Daniel Jones, while he did grow for four touchdowns and 300 yards, a lot of those were on like little short things that we just couldn't make tackles. You know, a lot of yards after catch, if you will, and we still sacked his ass six times and he lost a fumble, which was a big one. Jake: that was a touchdown, I believe, that Jamal Adams just sort of took out of his hands. So maybe we should call out Jamal Adams more often because he has been a buyer last three weeks. Justin: Hello, the last three weeks. Maybe we should just, every trade deadline, be like, yeah, let's talk about Jamal Adams. Jake: He needs to be signed. Yeah, probably. I mean, this is a joke about this game, yeah, Daniel Jones, who, I'm not... I'm not on the Danny Dimes or like whatever. I actually think he looks like a good quarterback. Justin: He does, he stands there, he throws the ball well. He does. He's got presence, but we did sack him six times because he didn't want to like move off his spot. Right. He can. I like him. I actually think he's a good quarterback. I think he's a good quarterback. I don't think he's as good as Sam Darnold though.
00 Justin: I will make that bet. That give the 10 year history, Sam will be a better quarterback? It's super hard to say because they're on different teams and different talent around them and different coaches around them, but it's just hard to say. Jake: Well, no it isn't. Do you think Sam Donnell will be better than Baker Mayfield after 10 years? Do you think Sam Donnell will be better than? Whatever the guy down in Florida is. Like yeah, you can do it with anybody. You said make a prediction. Justin: You could, it's hard. I think in time Sam Darnold will be better than Daniel Jones in time. Like as the years progress, that's how it's gonna play out. And oddly enough, Darnold's actually younger. Yeah. Like, age-wise, he is younger. So there's that too. Yep. Right? He's just advanced. Like, he's still one of the youngest quarterbacks in the league, and we have to remember that. Jake: And he has... And his ceiling is just, I think, getting higher and higher. Justin: It's Pat Mahomes is where he can go. He's that type of quarterback, and we'll get into that when we get into this game, because he made some plays that reminded me of Pat Mahomes. Hmm. Jake: In the way that he can't wait for this is my next like I can't wait for yeah when people refer to Sam Darnold when they're like, you know what that kid he plays like Sam like Sam he plays like Sam Darnold Like that's what I want to wait. I want to wait till they they reference the quarterback. That's all in the New York Jets as like the pinnacle I thought you know, he's really playing like Sam was playing I know it's playing. We talk about Rogers and Brady and Rolf's Burger and whatever, like you know, it's like this or like that, right? But I'd love it if there'd be a time where they're like, yeah, he's playing a lot like Sam Darnold. Right. Yeah. Justin: Cuz like we look at the kid in Arizona and he plays a lot like Russell Wilson, right? Because he does. And you look at a guy like Mahomes, he plays a lot like Aaron Rodgers. Right. Cuz he does. He's just a little... He's evolved. He's like the evolved version. A Mark Jackson. A Mark Jackson plays a lot like Michael Vick. Like a Vick. But evolved. Evolved. But to a point, I think. I think he plays a lot like Colin Kaepernick, personally. He's faster, better than Colin Kaepernick ever was. Not though. Colin Kaepernick led a team to a Super Bowl. Based on... I'm saying faster, like, just on the field watching it. No, literally faster. Did you watch, like, some of those games Kaepernick ran right through Green Bay in the playoffs? Because he was literally the fastest guy in the field. Like, that dude was fast. Legit. Fast. And he's playing in the same exact offense. That San Francisco offense that Kaepernick played in with Greg Roman? Yeah. Yeah. Guess who? It's Greg Roman in Baltimore. This shit's gonna get old in a couple years. This will all pass. Well, trust me. Jake: It always does. Michael Vick came and went, and the guy who then went and won. So, look, when Michael Vick started, and then he was the explosion, right? It was like the Michael Vick experience, blah, blah, blah, blah. And then who, what kind of quarterback won the next, I don't know, Tom Brady.
00 Jake: Super Bowls. Right. Justin: Not a dynamic guy. The same quarterback that's won all the Super Bowls. Tom Brady. Yes. That same drop back passer who throws the like Eli Manning has had no business winning two Super Bowls as a drop back Jake: Yeah, I think that it's fun to watch and obviously it's just interesting as like a thing to watch Justin: But alright, so so we beat the Giants. Yes and and the defense started playing Well that week in my opinion we held say Quan Barkley to exactly one rushing yard We have a top five rushing defense our defense The line, since trading Leonard Williams away, has been fucking insane. They've been so good. They have shut down. Say, Quam Barkley. And then last week, we'll talk about the Oakland game. They shut down. They're running back. The, that rookie. Adams, Jones. I think it's Jones. Whatever. We'll get there. It's been the defensive line has been a revelation. They're rotating in like six guys and all of them are playing great. McClendon is playing great. Quinn and Williams is playing great. Anderson is playing great. Fidakasi is playing great. Phillips is playing great. Basham is playing great. How, who are these guys? Who cares? They're playing great. And they're allowing linebackers and Jamal Adams who's playing on the line a lot more. If you watch, he's in the box. He's blitzing like a madman. He's shutting the shit down. So like these big dudes are taking up all of the bodies and then there's fast guys like that are just there to make plays. And sometimes these big-ass bodies are just beating the shit out of the offensive line. Jake: They're right into the back. So what do you think? Is it so obviously giants and the redskins aren't known for their great offensive lines. No. So that's kind of not a good sample size. Do you think that it's like that Williams has figured it out, Greg Williams has figured it out, changed up the scheme, and that is putting the power players where they need to be, or do you think we're just playing crappy teams? Justin: I think it's two-fold. One, we're definitely not playing good teams, except Oakland, who... They're a good rushing team. They run the ball. They don't stop trying to run the ball, and they generally get their 100-some-odd yards with... this rookie, right? And Washington had a rookie quarterback. He looked completely just out of his league, lost. And with the Giants, the same. We just said, you know what? We're going to stop Sykwan Barkley. And that's going to be the deal. Daniel Jones, fine. Throw four touchdowns, but we're going to win the game because Barkley's not going to be involved, and it's not going to be easy for you that way. And yes, I think it is Greg Williams. is. I don't know what you just did, but I think it is Greg Williams, in a way, figuring out a few things. And it's not just the line. It isn't. There are other things that he has figured out, which is which cornerbacks to play. Right. Because guess what? It's not Daryl Roberts, and it's not Tremaine Johnson. No, it's not. Daryl Roberts is hurt, and that's turned out to be a blessing.
00 Justin: And Tremaine Johnson, forget it. He might be hurt, he might not, but he's on the IR for the rest of the year and that's a total blessing. Because he was getting beat every which way from sideways that guy hair sting getting hurt That's been a blessing because guess what it's Arthur Millett and it's bless Austin and they're playing great These two guys are playing really well. They hit they hit hard. They cover pretty good tackles I mean that one play that third down play during the Raiders game where Trent Green I think called it out. He was like, oh that's wide open in the flat If he just throws it there He threw it there and guess what bless Austin threw a shoulder into him bob hopped up. Yeah, bang Jake: Like that kid's playing well, just one little quick observation. I was looking at the last couple games. Yeah Just 34 34 34. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's the first time it's ever happened That three really? Three in a row, yeah, 34. I mean really the big takeaway is, and what we're looking for, and I know, you know, and now we're double down on gaze for next year, and we talked about that in the last podcast, and good, bad, or different, but part of, but what you want to see is like, okay, fine, give me some hope, show me something that if I have to stick with this guy for next year, I'm still gonna go on, still gonna stay on the thing, I don't like him, I don't think he's a good head coach, but, At least I want to see the guy who I want to be on our team forever look good, play well, show us he's a quality quarterback, show us he can learn from mistakes, show us he can have a slump, which he did and had some really terrible games, and then come back. And then when they start talking about it, and you know what the fun thing now is kind of listening to... Listen to the fantasy guys because fans guys don't really care about teams. They just care about production When you hear them start to go well You know in the waiver wire you should pick up Sam Darnold because he's actually playing pretty well and doing this and I think He's gonna play well next week and you're like, oh, yeah They actually think that the guy on our the guy the starting quarterback for the New York Jets is actually gonna do okay Justin: Do you know it's even more nuts about your observation about 34 points? I'll give you an even crazier statistic crazier So Sam Darnold against the Giants, he was 19 of 30. And he threw for 230 yards. Okay, 19 of 30. Just keep that in the back of your head. Against Washington, Sam Darnold was, guess what? 19 of 30. For 293 with four touchdowns on that one and then guess what against the Raiders guess what Sam, Donald He was where's my Sam, Donald? Where are you? 20 of 29 Very close 1930 1930 2029. That's basically anywhere between 67 and 70 percent completion percentage and he's throwing up this time 315 yards two touchdowns no picks only one sack for two yards lost that's nothing that's taking care of the wall and I think what if you watch
01 Justin: that Raiders game you see some of the things that they were doing early in the season starting to pay off now I'll give the example. In the third quarter, third quarter starts, we're winning, I think, 13-3, right? But we know we're getting the ball. So we get the ball up 13-3, and we go right down the field, score, bang. All right. Leveon Bell type of drive. Yep, right right down the field I think it started off with two runs like Leveon Bell for six Leveon Bell for five got the first down and then it was like It was that bubble screen play that we run all the time. Yeah where we just throw the ball to like Demerius Thomas and hope he like falls forward for five yards on first down. Well guess what, this time he looked over there, faked it, waited half a second, threw it to Berios of all people, running the slant, hit him right in the hole, and he took it for like 60 some odd yards, right? Like Berios took that ball for 69 yards down to the 2, and then what a beautiful play. We have Sam Donner rolling out to the right, and he stops. I'm like, wait, what the fuck's he doing? He turns around, throws it backwards to the tight end. We're the only two other people standing there are too offensive line and escorting him two yards into it. We're like, here, come with me. Oh, wait. That was a four-play drive. And that was all set up with shit that we've done in our scouting report that I imagine Oakland was ready for one thing And we showed him on another we showed him the same look, but we did a different play and that to me is the key because later Like right after that drive, and this is the key to the whole game is right after that drive. We we stopped them and they punted to us, and we returned the punt almost back to where they punted. This is stuff that never happens for the Jets. This is what the Patriots do. They go in 13-3, they bang it to 20-3 on that opening drive with a big shot. And then you're done. And then we turn them over right away on the punt, get the punt return, and then hit them with the trick play, bang, right down the field, which was such a nice aggressive play by Sam, because they ran that double reverse. um, uh, Flea Flicker. Yep. Where he had the dump off if he wanted it, but instead he went for the gusto and Robbie caught it. Yeah. Thank God. Because he throws some nice throws to Robbie and he just doesn't catch. Or he gets ripped out of pants. He just gets ripped out. He actually held onto the ball. It's not even working out. And then on the touchdown play, which came a few plays later, it was that play where you've seen it a few times now where the, where Sam will line up in... Shotgun the running back will be to one side of him Let's just say to his right right the running back will run a route where the running back runs behind
01 Justin: Sam you've seen this a few times he runs behind and then comes out the other side and We generally throw it to that running back. He looks that way little fake It's not open. He then comes across, because now all the way to the left, he comes across the entire field. And he's darting to the far right corner. Robbie Anderson one on one. He just throws it out in front of him. Touchdown. What a nice thing to see. And then bang, we're up. 27-3. See you next time. Jake: Bye. Justin: And then on the next drive, I think it was the next play, it was. Boom. We get the pick six and it's over. Done. Games over in the third quarter. And that is how it should work. That is the way it should work. Jake: The biggest observation of the last three games is the second half play. Well, two things. One, they're driving on the first play and they're scoring. Like I know he almost had a streak of four and I think he couldn't get one. Justin: They kicked a field goal. They actually scored the touchdown. And they called an offensive interference on a replay. I know. Get the fuck out of here. I know. Seriously, you overturned literally nothing and then you're gonna watch a player sitting in a zone. He's not even playing man. You can't get picked if you're playing a zone. How are you getting picked? You're just getting run into. You're the one playing a zone. Jake: It was a great play and it was so... anyway, it doesn't matter. The end of the day is when I give back to him, I was like, you know what? He's going to do something with this now. It doesn't matter. But that being able to... there's something... and again, if you just the Patriot way, you get the ball, you score. I just think back to like watching McCon or something go 0-3 0-3 punt punt punt punt and that's why the defense is doing better because they're driving the ball yeah they have some rest they're resting up they're not constantly and they're not being left every single time you know defending from their 20 they're saying oh you want to go start at your 10 and come down towards us and by the time you're at the 50 we're gonna stop you this this was one of and I forgot that that Justin: That whole series of events that I described it wasn't with the punt return. I think it was with the they went for it on fourth down and we stopped them. Remember they had like third and one we stopped it. Then they had fourth and one they gave it to the fullback and Marcus May and Austin and Hewitt made a really nice play and stopped it. It was that momentum. It was like, okay now, now go take it like do that trick play. And they did it. Like they did the trick play and it worked. And that is nice to see. This was also a really good game for Lebion Bell, even though the score, the box score doesn't show it. Because they got up so fast in that second half, he really made that happen. Like the first drives of each quarter were a lot about like. Bell being out there and being a weapon. Jake: We're also talking about that first play. He comes off, rolls him out. The first play of the game against the Raiders, he rolls him out and just throws it down. Throws it to Bell, and he makes a one-handed grab
00 Justin: down the sideline. Like, what a weapon. It's like you figured out not just to run him up the middle every fucking time. He had five catches on five targets for 59 yards, and he had 12 rushes for 49. I mean, the guy went for 100 yards. on the game, great. He only touched it 17 times, which means he didn't get banged up, and we still scored 34 points. Jake: What's amazing too is that they... Just watching Bell, and again, I watch a lot of football, I watch a lot of running backs. The thing that he just does, and he's not a big guy, he just never goes backwards. He never falls backwards. And he always seems to be able to just to kind of move himself so he gets an extra yard. And if you're stupid enough to not have him, all of a sudden he's gone for another 10. That one play last game I think we were talking about, they threw it to him and he caught it. And they almost had him right at the 10 yard whatever, right at the marker. And then he kind of scooted one guy and then picked up another 9. Yeah. And that's like... Justin: They're hidden yards that are just there that he gets. Also you'll notice when they hand the ball off to him... Sometimes they just don't block one player. They're like, yeah, that guy's yours, Leveon. Yeah, take him. And he generally, like, he might get hit in the backfield. But that one guy's not taking him down. It ain't happening. He bounces off that guy. He does a lot of what Barkley does, like, what the Giants fans loves about Barkley, right? He's very hard to tackle. one on one. But if you corral him and don't let him get outside of you, which is what we did to him three weeks ago, 13 rushes for one yard, it's like, dude, you're bouncing around too much, like hit the hole. With Belle, it's like, that's his thing. He's bouncing around, but he's also not being taken down in that spot. Jake: Imagine if he actually got, this was, I think we tweeted this too, or texted this the other day, it's like, imagine if he had. Okay. When he gets that first hole, like if he can get to the second level, he's got nine yards. Justin: He never hits that first hole. For him, he's getting... Like, sort of never there. He has to squeeze through that first hole. To get three. Right. And that was one of the more fun plays of this game against the Raiders, was the play directly after the trick played a Robbie. If you recall, they handed the ball to Bell. and there was a hole and he hit it, but there was a guy who got him two yards after two yards, but he was trying to tackle him from behind and they'll just sort of carry him for five yards. Literally carried him for five yards. He's like, yeah, you wanna hang on my back, cool. I'm gonna go for five more yards and we'll fall together. That's big. That's huge. That's like Curtis Martin stuff. Jake: Like, he falls forward like that. If you just, if you think the three things that are making this team win, Sam's playing at a different level. Sam's playing at a high level. Uh, the defense is... On fire. ...is on fire and not letting... Again, I don't know why the Raiders should sit back and just chuck it down the field, because the corners are still shit. But they're not. But they're just, they're not willing to anybody to run. And so it's kind of like, you have no time, you have no time to do it. And then, and then really, it's just a consistent, like they're scoring in the second half.
04 Jake: I just remember so many Jets games where it's like they'd get off to 14 threes at half, and then it would be 14 10 and then 14 17 and like Thank you. They just they can drive the ball and score and that's 34 points. That's what you need to win You need a defense to keep you under 34 under 30 and you need there and we've been I mean the Raiders got three points Justin: I did and they say bench car in the third quarter. I mean that was it. They were done benched car I betched a bird this game is over. I think they came in and definitely were looking towards this coming week when they play the Chiefs, which is their big rival. They're gonna get their asses handed up. And really, if they would have beaten the Jets like they thought they were going to, would have been for the division. Right. Like they'd be playing the Chiefs for the head or the lead at this moment of that division, so they were certainly looking past us, I guarantee it. And that's bad on Gruden, obviously. But who the fuck cares? You can look past us, we'll kick your ass. Jake: Yeah. We'll kick your ass while it's 34 to 3. It's nice to beat, because again, beating up on the Redskins and Giants, sorry. That's not really that impressive. I know, we're 3 and 1 against the NFC East. Can we just get in the NFC somehow? I know. But you look at the, you know, we've beaten two good teams. Yeah, we beat the Cowboys. We're in the NFC East. Justin: So again, I don't know how good they are. No, they're good. I don't know that. Jake: I saw them play the Patriots really tough. Justin: Okay, but they lost. Jake: Yeah, but they lost like 12 to 9 or something. Yeah, but we kind of kicked their ass too. Like, I don't know if they're that good. They're good. They're a good team. What's their record? Right now in the NFC East. Justin: I mean, they play the Giants twice. They play the Redskins twice. I mean, those are, that's four wins. Yeah. That's easy peasy stuff. That's like the Patriots looking at us and the Dolphins. Jake: Yeah. Like yeah, that's four wins. That's right. And they get it. Justin: That's ridiculous. Jake: Here's the good news. We have 11% chance to make playoffs. Justin: So here's the deal. Let's just do this game review real quick. Jake: We're talking Raiders? Yeah, Night of the Game. I mean, I'm going to give it to Sam for the last three weeks because he has just played, he's just played out of his mind. Let's just say he's playing the way he's supposed to be. He's playing the way he is and again it's just so odd to look down at a field and see this quarterback and think, oh yeah, he's good and he's answering the questions that we need to answer this year. Again, this is not a playoff Super Bowl team just yet. But he's answering the questions. Is, are you still 100% sure that Sam Donald is the guy? And every time I see him go out in the field and play one of these games, I go, yep, I'm good. Now let's work around him. When he has those two or three really bad games, and you're like, oh man, because you see these guys. I get it. Lamar Jackson is doing amazing right now. But I've seen so many of these quarterbacks come in, do one year wonders or two year wonders, even three years, and then just disappear. The league will catch up to that system next season. It will not happen this season. I'm surprised they didn't catch up this season. The Patriots will be the ones in the playoffs to piss on their Wheaties. and that'll be what happens.
00 Jake: But it'll be down in Baltimore. I don't think so. It might all depend on how it works out. They remember, Baltimore beat the Patriots. Understood. You think it would be one, two, and then? Justin: Patriots have still only lost one game. As bad as they feel like they're playing. Fuck them. Everyone thinks we suck. You've lost once. Like, go suck a dick, honestly. I wish we had a different show. I wish we had an end to season shot at them. I know. I wish we would play them now, as opposed to when they were really rolling. Um... Which is opposite of what you generally want. So I'm gonna picture Mall Adams for the last three games. I think he stepped up. I think the defense has been fantastic. A couple other names to just like, we'll throw names out there later because I think it's worth it. during this three-game streak to just call out a handful of guys that have shored up certain positions that were complete disaster for us before these guys have kind of shored them up. And we'll get to that in a minute. So I like Adams as my knight of the game. And in terms of the play of a game, I've already mentioned it, but it's that series of plays that third and one, fourth and one Flee Flicker. Is those three in a row plays that basically sealed the game for me It was a big stop on defense very emotional and then take that energy and move it right on top Jake: I don't just come out and run it for two years. No come right out on offense and go for the gusto. Fuck you It's my play was the one again. Don't remember in the game. I watched the game the other day when we play It was the one where he scrambled. He had the room to run forever. He could have run 10 miles I was gonna talk about that and Instead he sees Robbie not really that open He had a guy above him and below him and he threw a ball that like gets picked nine times out of ten. That's the Mahomes comparison. And he goes and he just whips it and it goes right over the first guy jumped as high as he could, went right over his tips, then Anderson goes up, he's a big guy, goes up the top of the peak of his peak, grabs it, pulls it down and then takes it another 15 yards. I grew him to run. His yak was huge but he was covered top to bottom and Sam put it... Again, you can't put it anywhere else. So here's why I made that. If Anderson misses that ball by the way, Justin: the guy behind him picks it. So here's why I made that Mahomes comparison, and it was that play. Because that play, Lamar Jackson, runs. Yes. Oh, yeah. And he probably runs for a good 30 yards. Probably a touchdown. Maybe. Yeah. Right? Other players, like Mahomes. Might run, might not. Like Josh Allen, he would have ran. He wouldn't have even been looking down the field. Forget it. Now I'm gonna give Lamar the benefit of the doubt. He'd be looking down the field, but his first choice is I'm gonna run, because that's better. Mahomes and Darnold have the ability to do both. My homes can run, Donald can run.
02 Justin: We've seen him do it. He ran for a touchdown, right? He can run. He could have taken those 15 yards. They were there for him. But when you saw it, when they showed the angle replay, when you're looking from behind Sam, so you're watching Sam roll to his left, which is difficult, and then flick a ball 25 yards down the field, going the wrong way, which is. fucking athletic as hell. What he saw was the corner who was covering Robbie turned his back to Robbie for... or turned his back to Darnold for a split second to watch Robbie. Darnold had yet... had yet... had not yet released the ball. As soon as that guy turned his back to Sam, he chucked it. The guy turned back around to look at Sam balls in the air already. Yeah late for you, bro So balls in there, but if Sam didn't see him turn around he was gonna run. Yeah that option He knew that it was wide open for him first downs there and I know what the art I know they mentioned after the game that like Gates like said, hey, that's a That's a play you might want to talk and run the next time Because of just probabilities. Yes But I don't necessarily want to take that out of Sam. That's what makes him special. Those rolls to the left flick it 25 yards down the field to a faster... I mean, if Tariq Hill... And this is the second part of it. Like, this is why this should be a comparison to Mahomes. Because if Mahomes makes that throw, it's now to Robbie Anderson. It's to Tariq Hill who then gets a touchdown, right? It's a 55-year touchdown throw and the Holmes is the greatest MVP ever. Well, we don't have Tariq Hill just yet. We have Robbie Anderson and we will deal with that because he's going to get tackled by the first person who touches him. That's it. I can tackle Robbie Anderson. I know I can. Jake: At least he's not letting the ball get stripped out of his hands. Finally. He's playing much better. But I want my quarterback to be a pass first guy. Me too. Because Josh Allen, you know, would have taken that. You wouldn't have tried to run over a guy and maybe hurt himself. Who knows? But that's the thing. There's, yes, the percentage chance of you running for that first down to get a first down is probably much higher. Because he was literally two yards away and wide open. He had it. Yeah. in the longevity of your career, you're only gonna be able to run so much. And eventually you're gonna have to start passing. Look at Mike Vick. Justin: I mean, that is the example. Once he slowed down, Russell Wilson is the same way today. Russell Wilson is very much a pocket passer today with the ability to escape a lot like Aaron Rodgers. That's where I want Sam to be. I want Sam to be in that mold where, yeah, if you need to make plays, and he's definitely He's definitely more assertive. They've said it like he has gone to Gaze and said look man This is the shit I want to run, and Gaze is cool with it, and I love that. I like that they're collaborating I think that that's good. I think it's not like Gaze just being like no you're gonna run my offense
01 Justin: No. Like, I like the fact that that's not the case. And you can see that he's got him on the move a lot more. He was on the move a lot the last couple weeks. Play faking, rolling this way, rolling that way, and rolling certain ways and not throwing it that way. Whoa, right? Like fake out stuff. It's starting to come together. It'll be interesting. I thought this would be the test. Passed it with flying colors. The next big test, I think, is not Cincinnati, which is next week. It's Miami the week after that. Because you can't get beat by Miami twice. You can't go in there thinking, ah, we're just gonna beat this fucked up team. No, you gotta really, like one week at a time, do it. That's it. and then pick your head up at six and seven, see where you're at, and go play the Ravens. Deal with Lamar right now, Jake: because Lamar is a struggle. It'll be an interesting week this week, when Lamar plays, and they play the 49ers. Yes. So I'm looking for the... I looked at that line and it didn't make sense to me. I haven't looked at it yet, so we can talk about that. So let's get on, let's go, should we do some... Go back to our picks and see where we are, what's going on. Justin: Really quick, just very fast. There has been a change in this team, right? They look a lot better. Yes. They look a lot more proficient on offense. Yes. The defense is looking pretty dominating at times. Yep. There's a couple changes that have been made. Jake: OK, let's hear it. Justin: Players, specifically. First of all. What you're seeing now is these backup linebackers, 58 Burgess, and Hewitt is now back, 46 in the middle. They're actually playing pretty well. They're playing pretty well. I can only imagine what CJ Moseley and Avery Williamson would look like in the middle there. Copeland being back has helped. Jenkins is kind of on fire there on the outside. So those linebackers are playing great. Those two linebackers that had to fill in are now... three, four, five weeks into their filling in jobs and are doing really nicely. Molette and Austin as corners, that's been working brilliantly. Yep. And the biggest thing, new starters on the offensive line. Yeah, four of them. Like, we got... We got Harrison in there playing center, Kaleel's done. And we have Lewis and Compton in there playing guard. And because Winters is gone and hurt. And Osemaly, whatever. Beecham's back. Beecham is back at left tackle, which is an upgrade over Shell or Adoga. Then you've got a doga playing on the right side, which is where he belongs and he actually got hurt in this game and shell came In and they all kind of got hurt they rotated around but that offensive line I think the key is those three guys in the middle Harrison and Lewis and Compton to his left in his right. Yep are so much better than Khalil, Winters, and whatever was playing in left guard before
03 Justin: They figured it out at least with the pass protection. Yeah, Sam's not getting killed Jake: And that's important. And the Raiders have pass-westers like they came like I don't know what the Cincy's gonna do Justin: It's very important that that be a continued stressor like, sure, Beacham's shoring it up, but that left tackle needs to be addressed during the off season. Oh yeah. For sure. And then, I don't know. Let's turn to center. Maybe Lewis and Compton and Harrison, who knows? I mean, Harrison's playing well at center. Who knows, right? But at least it looks better than what it did five weeks ago, which was like, this is a sieve. How can anyone stand back there? This is ridiculous. Thank you. At least now it's looking so awkward. Jake: And some of this boy calling too kept keeping things active, keeping things... So you're not guessing and once also you know that the guy can throw then you're gonna back off a little bit. The play action is also there. Justin: It's helping. The play action is there. The fact that they stick with the run game even though it might not work, it's important. Yeah. Because Belle attracts attention. So if you... Jake: gonna play action. Imagine if that line actually had some good run blocking. I know. Or if they just could never get three yards. If he had three yards he could get to the second level, then the guy he's missing is not, you know. If they could just block the way that the Steelers blocked for him, Justin: which was very much more a power game and not a zone. Like they were like, we're gonna push you back two yards. One of us is gonna pull around. That's gonna give Labian about two yards behind the line of scrimmage to dance and do what he needs to do. And then he's gonna follow that puller. Right, and he's gonna find the hole. And he's gonna find it. Either that puller's gonna open a hole by pulling or wherever they came from is gonna be vacated. And he'll go left or right or straight, whatever he needs to do. So they need to, I don't know, figure that out in the off season. But. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. some kudos to some guys who are playing new roles on the team and have Have stepped in for some high-priced dudes. I think we have the most Dollars on the IR right now in terms of salary cap. Yes Jake: And they put that stat up, right? I mean a lot of it's in in those two line guys a lot of it's in true and true and John well Justin: CJ mostly not he's not even on the IR Is that yet? Nope. They think it might even maybe come back. They have not made that move. Jake: He's out every week. 11% chance of making the playoffs. Justin: Look, man, if you can make it back. I mean, it was like four or five weeks ago that he got hurt, and they said it would be like four to six weeks. So I assume we'll hear some news on him soon. He'll either be in the IR or. Sorry. DUNners are coming back. Jake: Let's do some games. Let's do some games. What's our... So how are we doing right now? Same Darnold Jets is leading at 95 total points. I'm sneaking up right behind them at 94. You... I'm at 87. 87... not really. I mean, you've had a couple good weeks. You've won two weeks. Justin: I'm back at 500, which is good. I was fighting to get back to 500.
00 Justin: Now that I'm at 500, I'm ready to make my move. So you ready to lose? No, you're not good at this. Let's do it. Thanksgiving week. So let's do it. We got three games on Thursday which is frickin' awesome. And you're only gonna talk about two of them. Alright, so we start with Detroit, obviously. Chicago at Detroit? Chicago favored on the road, three and a half? Nope, sorry, Mitchell stinks. I'm gonna take those three and a half in Detroit and hope they lose by a field goal or not. Jake: And this is all based on Stafford. Yeah. Okay, I'll take Detroit as well. I think, I just don't think Chicago has it in them to sort of beat up on anybody. Justin: They kinda stink. And then we're gonna skip the day game. even though I think it's gonna be a good one. We'll talk about it later. Jake: It's a good game. Yeah, I'm gonna have to figure out when my turkey gets done, cause I might want to watch that game. I might do an earlier Thanksgiving to like watch that game. Like be- That's what my family usually does. We eat it like two. I think I'm gonna eat it like 3.30. So by 4.30, it'll be just kick out. Yeah, we usually eat so that we can watch that. Usually the Cowboys are later. Justin: Because the second that first game is dogs. Usually Detroit game stinks and everyone wants to watch the Cowboys game. Anyway, alright, let's move to the night. So the eight o'clock at night. Thursday we got New Orleans at Atlanta. New Orleans is favored on the road by seven. I like New Orleans. Jake: I... don't. Elanda has been the turnaround kids of the season. Their defense is actually playing well. I don't buy it. I don't. At home on Thanksgiving, Thursday night, I think Elana will keep it close. Keep it interesting. So I don't think Elana cares. Well, you have been watching them then. Justin: They've been caring. I mean the crowd. At least that would be a great crowd. Jake: majority of them are gonna drink. Justin: Drink and party. All right, let's move on to one o'clock. So we got indie hosting Tennessee Indie kind of slipping they're out of the playoffs right now Indie favored by two and a half. I like Tennessee Jake: They have something going there with Tana. Hell for some reason that crazy. I can't even out of nowhere like forget Mariota. We got Tana Hill They're just dropping 35s 42s. He's also like he's also Tana Hill so I'm gonna take Andy this week Justin: This is a big matchup. It's it's a big-time game. You know, I think they're both six and five so big time game That'll be a that'll be a fun one to watch at least. All right, let's keep Another game. All right Green Bay at New York Giants Green Bay, six and a half. Too low. Too low. Jake: Too low. The Giants have been sticking it in. Even last week, they didn't get blown out. They were in a chance to kind of. They're starting to get a little more hurt, a little more hurt, a little more hurt. And Green Bay lost. And I think they're going to take that pretty high. I agree. I'll take Green Bay. Justin: Cleveland, Pittsburgh. Don't understand this line. Oh boy. Do not get it at all. How is Cleveland going into Pittsburgh favored by two when Pittsburgh's gonna wanna kill
00 Justin: them? Literally kill them. Like actually murder them on the field. Jake: Pittsburgh doesn't have any talent to murder on the field. Okay. And Cleveland's actually been playing well. Like the two picks who quarterbacked last week, they've been playing well. Justin: Yeah, but I understand. But Pittsburgh's six and five, you know. It's not like they're shit, they're six and five, and Cleveland's five and six, and Pittsburgh just had their quarterback get assaulted on the field by a lineman for the Browns just 18 days ago. So why exactly wouldn't Pittsburgh come out here and just kill everyone? Uh, then I'll get torn out. I got Pittsburgh, give me those two, I'll take- I would tease that the other way. I think Cleveland's gonna win. No chance. I don't think, all right. I don't think there's actually a chance. I think Pittsburgh dominates them. That is Mike Tomlin. That is a Mike Tomlin stamp game. We'll see. We'll see. I don't think he has a talent to do it. Jake: I think he has the will to make those guys get up for this game. I don't think he has a talent. And they might hurt Baker. Take care. Maybe there might be a play that someone decides I'm a fucking kill this guy Well, that would be a very badly coached team then Because what you want to do is come out play a clean game. Just beat them. Just beat them Yeah, I think they're gonna want to hit that dude. All right, come on. All right, Caroline is hosting Washington Justin: Caroline is giving 10 Washington stinks. I got Carolina. Yeah, I'll give Tara on the 10. They stuck it close with the Saints That was good. So yeah, they're gonna beat up on Washington. Yeah, and that quarterback is totally taking the job of Cam Newton. Yeah, unbelievable. Yeah, this guy in his second year. They're totally overlooked. Maybe first year or whatever It's amazing. Maybe just play and play well Jacksonville is hosting Tampa Jacksonville is favored by one Tampa's a weird team. I'm gonna take Tampa just because I feel like every week it's different with them I have no idea how to judge that I'll take Tampa. I too will take Tampa This is like to me the game of the week and it's at one o'clock which sucks sucks This should fuck this shit needs to be get up to and they can't do that It's got to go up to eight games rule Jake: This needs to be the eight o'clock game. So tell you they don't want you not as good as this three four o'clock And let's see are there any good ones? No, well there's the one good one. No, there's good four o'clock games. No, one. One of them's good. The other two are just beat ups. Justin: Anyway, this game really should be at four. It's at one. Apologies to all you Jet fans who won't be able to watch this one. But Baltimore's hosting San Francisco. Huge matchup. Um, Baltimore's favored by six. I got San Francisco on the road. I know it's early for them I know but it's six points and San Francisco's a really darn good team Jake: I just don't see I think Baltimore's just playing on every level now. So San Francisco, man I just think at home. They're just gonna continue to roll I just think they have that they have a swagger now that like we have pretty good. They just beat up Green Bay 37-8 I mean, I'd like for them to beat up Baltimore so we could learn from the tape, but I don't think it's gonna happen.
02 Justin: 37 to 8. Don't think it's gonna happen. Alright. You might be right. But we'll see. Jimmy G. Alright, uh, 4 o'clock. We have the... Oh geez. LA Rams Rams LA Rams like due to garbage So would you like to be the team that has girly and golf under long-term contracts? Or would you like to be the team that just has Belle and like Donald still in this rookie situation? Right now it looks like looks pretty good. Yeah, like looks like they made a mistake with that girly Jake: Well, always with the running backs. Justin: We did it, but we did it smart, because then when that contract's over, We have to pay Sam. We pay the quarterback and that running back will be 31, he'll be gone. Jake: Yeah, I don't think it's, I think you have one more year of film. You won't see the third year. Justin: You will, guaranteed. That's when they're gonna start being good. All right, so anyway, I got Arizona, because the Rams are favored on the road by three, and I'll take Arizona, because. Rams have showed me literally nothing. Oh, I think the Rams Jake: I think the Rams are still a better team than Arizona and there'll be a bounce back if they're good Justin: How do you hang over don't you think? I think about like what happened to McVeigh all of a sudden Jake: This is why you can't easily don't chase the like chase those dragon Justin: There's six and five and I would have thought they'd be better than that. All right chargers at Denver Division game. Chargers favorite on the road at Denver don't like that. In Division, like Denver at home, getting two and a half. Denver's not a good team. Understood. No way. Jake: I don't think the Chargers are that good either. I don't think they're either, but they're, I beat the team by three points. Team. Justin: Yeah, they are. Are they, I mean they're four and seven and Denver's three and eight. So they're that, are they that much different? Jake: Yeah, I just think they're a better talented team. Justin: That's fair, but our quarterback, that's for sure. Um, and then last one at four, this'll probably be the one that's on TV. Well this is a big game historically. Yeah, I just don't know why the line is so off on this. Um, the line is pretty wonky, so Kansas City is hosting Oakland, their favorite like nine and a half, that's kind of, to me, an overreaction to how badly Oakland lost to a shitty Jets team. Totally. And now having to go on the road like back-to-back weeks. They're gonna bounce back I think Kansas City will win this game, but I don't think it'll be nine and a half I think this will be a close one Maybe maybe like they're up by ten in the fourth and Oakland like cuts it to seven or something like that to cover Jake: But I got Oakland on this totally. I take Kansas City straight on the bounce back Justin: Don't you think Chuckie's gonna get in their ear and be like yo guys? Jake: fucking blue. Let's go. We got it. We got a big division game here that we have to win. He sat his quarterback to get him ready for next week. Justin: That's right. He probably didn't want him to get hurt. We're on to Kansas City. Right? We're on to Kansas City. All right. Then we got Sunday's AFC game, AFC East. We'll skip that one. But by the way, I truly- That's a fun game. It is a fun game. I truly believe Baltimore, San Francisco is a better one and should be
01 Justin: the Sunday night game. That's what I believe. Or maybe that Baltimore San Francisco game could have been the Thursday night game, like just to give us something on Thursday night, but whatever. We'll move on to Monday, where we have Seattle hosting Minnesota, Seattle favored by the standard 3L, take Seattle. Jake: I will take Seattle at home. Minnesota's a good team. They can run the ball. They just had their week off, so I feel like they'll come back. I have too many players on Minnesota, so I know too much about them. Let's say I was too good at home. We didn't write down any of these games that we need to actually care about. Justin: So I'll just read them out. We didn't? No, I didn't. I know you didn't. So I'll just read them and we'll just talk about them. Alright, so Thursday, Thanksgiving, the 430 Eastern game. So the second game of the day, Dallas is hosting, I'm sorry, always on Thanksgiving, Buffalo. What a good game this should be. This should be really interesting. What's the spread for that? Dallas is favored by six and a half. And that is far too many, if you ask me. Because like I said earlier, I don't think Dallas is that good. I think that they've beaten up on some teams that are not that good. And I think that when they face the Jets, they looked like shit. And... To me, I think Buffalo has a really good defense. I think they have a quarterback that can make things happen. And for that reason, I think six and a half is far too many. I got Buffalo. Jake: I think it'll be a bull out. I think it will. I think Dallas is going to go in there. They're pissed as shit. I think at home. Thanksgiving, I think you're just gonna, you're gonna see them go and they're a foot floppy team. They really are. They'll come up and beat people 30 points. I think you'll see it. Buffalo short week on the road. Justin: Do you think the stage is too big for this young Buffalo team? Jake: Like the stage is just too large for them right now? I can't wait to see it, but I just have this feeling that it's, I feel like Dallas is gonna roll over them. Justin: I think it'll be super interesting to see what... what Josh Allen can do. I'm interested in watching him play a whole game. It's not against the Jets. Jake: I like watching Dak Prescott play. He's a good player. It's really about Cooper. They kind of kept him out of the game last week. They didn't play him. I watched injured. Sort of injured, but he wasn't. And he's sort of, you know, he's one of the biggest. Yeah, well he's their number one receiver. I mean, and you got it. And you got it too. Justin: Like, Jesus. They got to pay Dak. They're in trouble. They're a very talented team, but they're only... They paid a year or two. Jake: Now they got to pay Dak. They got to pay Dak, and he's going to be super expensive. Justin: He is. He's going to set the next record. Every quarterback that comes up is going to basically set the record if they're any good. All right, let's move along. We'll leave the Jets for last. So we've got Philly at Miami. Um, Philly is favored by nine and a half. This jumped from seven and a half. I don't know why. Did they flip back to... Is Rosen gonna be the starter for Miami? I don't know.
00 Justin: I mean, that would be the only reason that I would think that a line would jump two points. Cause he's worse than... Jake: Yeah. He's worse than since. Well, I mean, the stuff coming out of Miami is that they are just in absolute tank mode. Although they keep winning. Justin: They're 2 and 9, and they've won two games. Like, if you're tanking, don't win. Why try? Jake: Since we'll talk about in our game, but they're putting back in the red rocket to not go 0 and 16. They don't want to go and I get that culturally you don't want to go on 16 Justin: You don't want to be that team that went oh and 16. It's bad for the culture No one wants to come play there at that point. No, it's done for you if you're 0 and 16 agreed Jake: Not worried about the red. Oh, we didn't pick the lead if we didn't pick scores. We've picked scores I already have it filled out It's a Buffalo, I'm gonna go below City. 17, which will be last to like 32. Justin: Yeah, I don't think there's gonna be that much scoring. I'm gonna go 2016 Dallas. You think Dallas is gonna win? I think they'll win, but not, it's not gonna be, it's not gonna be like what you think it is. Philly at Miami. Philly at Miami. Philly favored by nine and a half. I actually think that's just a... Tad, hi. I think they're gonna, they can beat Miami by seven, I think. I think it'll be close. So let's go 24, 24 17. Jake: I think Philly's, this is the line I think we'll cover. Just don't see it with Miami. You know what? Mine was gonna look ahead to the Jets, right? For their other way or other way to get their three wins, right? No, I think this gets out of control pretty quickly. So I think I think they'll cover 3020. Okay, really Justin: And then Sunday night is New England at Houston, which you said before this will be fun Yes, I totally agree This is going to be a lot of fun. The Patriots are favored by three and a half. Patriots have an awesome defense. I mean, this is one of the best defenses I've seen since like that Baltimore defense. Stunning. I mean, this is, or since the Seattle Legion of Boom defense, like this is a really great defense. Until they hit Lamar Jackson. in. Well, Baltimore is like kind of their thing. Like they, for years, Baltimore has been the team. Remember, Baltimore beat them in the playoffs a number of years back with Flacco on their way to the Super Bowl. I mean, they do tend to have trouble with that like young quarterback who can like do things. You know, I'm thinking specifically of. of. You know when they've lost to Kansas City, you know where things are happening a lot of movement is happening Missed direction and Lamar is like the master of that right? He's sitting back there
01 Justin: Everything is you have no clue what's about to happen He may run Mark Ingram may run he may throw he may look to throw and then run like you're fucked. So until someone figures that out. But anyway, they've gotten used to them this time. And Deshaun Watson, who's also pretty hard to wrangle in. Jake: He just has a terrible line in front of them. Justin: He has a terrible line in front of them. And New England has really good corners to cover DeAndre Hopkins. So I think the win-win wins this game. I just don't think they win it going away because they're not really scoring very well I think this one's gonna be 20 to 13 Jake: Yeah, I have I don't know they're not doing the scoring thing this year. They're not scoring. They're just not scoring They're their offense is not very good. It's not they can't run. They can't throw. No, what the fuck? It's What happened to the Patriots? It's weird. Good. Keep going that way. Houston does have some pass rushers. I actually, I think at home, I think Houston, I think Houston sees this as a big game. I see them see this as a massive game. I've seen them stand up to this. I actually think Houston is going to pull it out. They have to. They're seven and four. They've got to win this game. I think it's Houston 27-23. Okay. I think that happens. And then we've got the Jets. Justin: So let's talk, we'll give the line here. It's three and a half. The Jets are favored on the road by more than three points. Let's throw that out there. So since he's winless. Since he is winless. They are garbage. They are bringing Andy Dalton back in to start. Don't care. They were Owen whatever with him anyway. Don't care. here. Historically, Andy Dalton's kicked the Jets ass. Yeah, that's right here. So if they're doing this for one game, they looked at it and they're like, oh, Andy's career stats against the Jets are like off the fucking charts Tom Brady good. So, and they really are. I remember him killing us like with Rex Ryan, like. Blowing us up for four touchdowns like who the fuck is this guy Andy Dalton thing is though. He don't have no AJ Green Nope, he's had AJ Green his whole career. You don't have him this year. He's injured. They're windless for a reason Yeah, they're not that good. They can't run the ball. They can't stop people. It's the first year of this guy's coaching tenure He's really young Let's just take it to this team. Nothing fancy, straight up just beat them. Like on defense, that's what we've been doing. We're lining up and we're beating guys at the line of scrimmage and Jamal Adams is making plays all over the field. That's how you do it. Get the big guys up front to beat their big guys and you can win. You've seen it against us every time a defense pushes our line around, which happens a lot. Our offense looks like shit. Like the whole timing of the whole thing, it's completely thrown off. Well, we are now doing that to teams. We need to do that where we push people into the backfield,
00 Justin: where that offensive lineman is literally sitting in the quarterback's lap when he's trying to make a throw. It's a testament to both coaching and also the analysis of Leonard Williams just isn't good. He's just a guy. He's just not even like Shepard who's in his second year who's pushing guys onto their ass in the back field if you watch. Like he's literally just shoving guys around. It's great. And if you watch that, you're seeing the same damn thing. Leonard Williams getting. to the quarterback's feet before he throws the ball. It's like, damn, you're frustrating. And look how good that defense played the last three weeks without you. Yeah. Quite impressive. And maybe it's just a. Shifting. Well, maybe it's a shift in roles. Maybe it's a, oh, OK, as an offensive line, we are no longer going to know where to key in. Because it's like, all right, as a line, we need to stop Leonard Williams. and that's where people would focus and they would actually have a game plan for how to stop our defensive line. I don't know how you'd game plan for our defensive line. We got seven guys in full rotation. Yep. In and out every every play. And no, it's who you're stopping. Line up one-on-one and one of them's gonna beat you. Yep. I think that helps. So anyway, I think our defense kind of dominates this game. I see no reason why Sammy D wouldn't go out there and continue to play well. Le'Veon Bell has some history with Cincinnati. He's gonna, yeah, Steeler Cincinnati, man, that's a big deal. They've hurt him in the past on purpose and he's gonna want to go out and play well. So I see us, oh, I see your score. I like your score. I'm gonna go with the same score for the Jets because it's fun, but I'm gonna go less for them. 34-13 JETs, JETs, JETs. Jake: Yeah, I, you know, this, the only issue with this game is really just can the JETs stay at the level they've been playing and not do a little bit of like get into their own stuff, right? This is a coaching game. This is not a play calling game. This is not a Sam game, a defense game. This is a coaching game. This is how do you get a team to get who thinks that they're good. but it's average. Not get fucked up by the fact you're going to meet an Owen, an Owen, whatever, 12, well no, whatever, they're at, Owen. Justin: Don't let that shit get to your head. Jake: Owen 12, they are at 11, they're at their buy. How do you get them to not get too caught up in that and be like, you know what, we're playing this game, but we're just gonna go out and play our game, we're gonna play well. I think the secret and the keys to success is really, it's really the first drive. Because it's the thing that, every time we lose and have a bad game, it's like, it starts off with this first drive that we end up punting and give them good field position and whatever. Versus like, you've been watching these games, they come out, that first drive, they go down, they score. and they just set the tempo. And I think if they set that tempo, there's no looking back. They'll just score, then they'll score again,
01 Jake: then they'll score again, they could score again. I actually think this could go much higher than 34, but we don't seem to have the killer instinct. We still don't put up like 20, you know, keep going. We kind of pull it back a little when we got them. Like I'm at Raiders, I felt like we slowed down a little. We didn't like kind of... all the way go for it. So I think it'll be 34-20, because that'll be a backdoor. It'll be, you know, they'll score seven in the second quarter and seven in the third quarter and miss a field goal or miss an extra point kind of thing. I don't think it's like, it's never gonna feel out of whack. And then, you know, then we can all turn around and go, hey, where's the good, want to see a good game. So 3420 New York Jets. All right, that's it. That was a long one, kids. We'll be back whenever we feel like it. And talk to you then. It's Justin Jake saying, let's go Jets. Thanks.
