20 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast, the longest running New York Jets Podcast. Period, NSX. I'm Jake joining me period end of Justin Justin: Justin I don't Am I both other tired? I'm super tired. We both were out late last night And the podcast just ended. Yeah, no Yankees game And they got crushed as I remember if you recall correctly they did get crushed Jake: I mean, I remember like I wasn't watching the game because it was an event I stopped watching after the first inning I mean wasn't like didn't they put like seven or eight in the first inning? They put up a touchdown plus an extra point which Justin: The Jets can't seem to do. All right. We'll get to that in a moment. We'll get to that. So let's get to the getting of the get. Jake: So it's been a couple weeks. We've got some preseason game going on, training camp's really underway. And so, yeah, two games have been played. Two games have been played. Which really, when you boil down the actual starters, it's like one quarter has been played. One quarter. Maybe even not even a full quarter. Because I've seen. you There are four drives Justin: Then for your offensive drive. Yeah, we're off into drugs. Yeah, I think the defense has been right behind them Jake: So let's talk about the I will say this is and I don't know if just I don't know if it's just a time in My life or I've got other shit in my plate or whatever But man, I am having a hard time focusing in on football like even fantasy anything I just it's hard for me to focus on it. So I'm hoping that Some stuff clears up off my plate so the regular season I can start paying attention That'd be nice. Yeah would be like I did not watch the first game I watched the first drive and I was like, oh cool. That's fine I mean, yeah, there's so many players not playing but let's talk about the first game because I was last week Which was Jets against the Giants, yeah, see? Yeah, wasn't even paying attention. Femme. Yeah, sure. We don't care about this new people thing anymore, do we? Rex Ryan ruined that for everybody. Yeah, well, when he destroyed the season by putting your starter in again. He did. Against the third quarter, try to win and you have a backup line. God, it'd be fun to go back and see what happened if... Sanchez didn't get hurt but uh anyway all right so uh again three super bowls um so Justin: this was a one and done drive for the starters on offense and defense yeah and it was an impressive
06 Justin: offensive drive they went right down the field in like what three minutes something like that it was super quick four minutes uh, Darnold was sharp. His first throw was almost intercepted. And after that, he was right on target. Jake: Can we have him just not throw the first throw? He seems to be really bad at the first throw. Remember his first? Last night it was pretty good. Remember his, well I'm saying of all. Remember his Justin: first throw? His first professional, yes. Yes. He threw the pick six against the line. Yeah, but then we like went on to route them. So maybe that was a good thing. Yeah, anyway. But he looked really good. The revamped offensive line looked pretty good on that first drive. Now that was without Kahlil, right? He wasn't playing at that point. Kahlil has not played yet at all. Still been Harrison up to this point. But Sam Darnold, this is really going to be like the Sam Darnold show. Four for five, 68 yards. Touchdown. Perfect passer rating. 158.3. against a starting defense, which I'll take it. Jake: I mean, it's kind of what you want to see. You want to see him come out. It's, it's, if he were a really good quarterback, if he were one of the best quarterbacks in the league, if he were the Tom Brady's, that's exactly what Tom Brady would do. He'd come out, he'd drive, he'd go right down the field, and maybe they'd score. Okay, I'm done. Well, you, you, it's, it's their defense, but they're playing base defenses and they're playing. I forgot my letter. They're playing base defenses. They're not doing anything spectacular. Justin: So, yes, it's against the defense, but it's not against. It's also vanilla offense too, you know? Yeah. You're not really doing much. You're just trying to get out there. There was a play that was pretty impressive on that drive. It was the 32 yard thrown catch to Chris Herndon. Yep, who will I think we're gonna miss in in the first four weeks pretty big time But that was a really nice play where Sam stepped up into kind of a pocket that was forming but being collapsed on him but he stepped through it and then wide wide open and If you go back and watch it, there's this really awesome clip you could probably find it on like Instagram or somewhere of the blocking that occurred on that play where assembly from the left guard spot He had a quick double team on the defensive tackle and then the center took that over and then Kalechi peeled off of that. He came back from flat. The end was kind of getting around or making an inside move on the tackle and Assembly just... Knocked the top knock the defensive end just straight out of the picture. Yeah, like it was like this perfect Combination block where he blocked the tackle passed it off to the center then moved all over to the end and just knocked him on his ass and
05 Justin: then Sam stepped right through and that's like what you see from like Good quarterbacks like I don't really want to name people because that sucks to like compare them But not that's entire NFL is comparing kind of what you just see out of Aaron Rodgers like Aaron Rodgers Consistently gets pressured but steps right on through it and then it's like oh my god The whole field is wide open in front of him Yeah, he doesn't just stand there and stand there or go backwards or try to pull up pull a Gino Yeah, he just steps up and through and I love that about him. He just moves up and he's got his eyes up the field and he can run if he wants to. But he's trying to throw, which is good. You know, I'm like, what you see also takes wide receivers Jake: who have their head on a swivel and they're like, they know that it's breaking down. And they're like, oh, and then they they will come back or they'll try to get open. Justin: I mean, they'll do something special to be like, hey, play Chris Herndon just. got open like 20 yards down the field and then ran after the catch for another 10. It was a really nice play and those are the types of things that really I mean that's what you want to see like you want to see that progression in his game like stepping stepping in stepping through stepping into balls being very like decisive about the whole situation especially because it's a new offense. That to me was really nice to see. And then, uh, the first team defense three and out. And that was that like, that's it for you. Like goodbye. Yeah. Three and out gone. And our starting defense was done at that point. So I even give them a pass, the jets for like, forget the win or lost. The loss. Please fuck it. Who cares? But When Daniel Jones the number six overall pick in the 2018 I don't find as impressive. It's not. Because he's a backup and he's doing it with starters against all backups. It's like, all right, well, what if Jamal Adams was patrolling the middle of the field? He would have picked your ass off or sacked you because we just saw him do, let's just fast forward Jake: because the first game was kind of just a blah, like one thing and you watch it. You know, again, like Crowder was there and you're like. Oh, cool. Herndon is there, you're like, oh, right, he's on the team. And then Bell's not playing, so they have Ty Montgomery in the backfield. And over the two games, you just combine them, that was the piece I was like, ooh, look at you run. And here's the thing I noticed, and maybe it's just me kind of like projecting.
01 Jake: Because I'm just a fan. I don't know about anything. You're a podcaster. I'm just a fan. I'm just a fan of a team. Right. I noticed that either the plays were made for Montgomery to be a little bit more to like wait. And I felt like they were built for Belle. That's what I was like. They were look, they were plays built for Bell that he was running and he was kind of running in the Bell way. He was doing these quick cutbacks. He's kind of set wait, wait. You know, it's one of the things about Bell. He's like, he's super patient. Sometimes, you know, he waits and then he'll just go another direction and it's weird to watch him. And again, you've watched him forever. We watched him on the Steelers. first. But he's one of these, he has a super crazy style where he's not just like hit the hole and run. He's like, grab the ball and then kind of like, everything slows down. And he goes, and he goes, and he kind of just waits. And you're like, what are you waiting for? And then all of a sudden he sees it and he goes, and he's off. Justin: He'll stand there almost. Yeah. His feet are moving, but it'll appear as though he's standing there waiting for an offensive lineman to pull into a hole. Right. and he'll just He'll grab the offensive lineman and push him into the hole like I'm now following you But i'm just gonna walk like yep, because i'm faster than you so you do your speed i'll do mine And as soon as you walk that guy there I'm gonna hit the next gear and it's gonna be very fast when I hit that next gear It's gonna really throw everyone else off It's a very cool style to see and you're right, they had a lot of the last two years, our offensive scheme under two different offensive coordinators has been very much in the zone blocking scheme of like the the Shanahan style like back to Denver days. where it's a lot of like stretch plays and a lot of, you know, not a lot of power behind that kind of style, in my opinion. And what you saw, I think, a lot last night was a little bit of a game plan for running. Where in the first play in the first game, I don't think there was much of a game plan for anything, but you can see the difference with the line and. tight ends pulling around and even the touchdown run was like a really nice tight end pulling around wide receive on the block it's like hey guys you have to stay on your blocks right it might take four or five seconds for this play to develop and then watch him go Jake: change direction walk in the end and untouched it and it's fun to have Justin: Guy who can play like that and powell played like it's nice to have these guys who are sort of interchangeable in that way obviously, none of them are good as bell but With Bell and Montgomery on the field
00 Justin: That's gonna be fun still don't have a lot of fun with that I think because you can see Gates has there's some creativity in in the offense There's some some some Jake: Tempo to it. Well, you saw that in both first fun Justin: They came out and they went no huddle it right down the field some really good tempo. That's the offense Jake: That's not normal like you don't just jump come out and that was was felt so fast, too You went back like wait both first drives in both games. No huddle just we're coming out. Hey, we know we're doing cuz you know most first plays are scripted. They say 10, 15 plays are scripted. But yeah, we're just gonna come out. Sam's good. He knows what he's doing. He's fast. He can improvise. And we've got fast, good guys. Justin: So just try to catch us. Enjoy. Have fun. Right. And then last night, it was interesting because... You saw it open up a little bit more like it was okay we're the playbook opened a little bit like there were some more running plays like we said and There was a really nice back shoulder throw to Robbie which I think if he and Sam can That's gonna be a big play. That back shoulder, if he can hit that back shoulder on Robbie, that means, I'm doing his Valtry, that's what it does because he picked up a nice first down in the red zone on like a short Like not a thing you would expect out of Robbie Anderson. That's like a Quincy and Nunez route, right? So it's like, oh, that's nice. And then when Crowder and Nunez are out there and Herndon's out there and Bell and maybe my, whoa, all of a sudden, like pick your poison. And it appears as though he's just going to throw to the open guy. Even the incompletions that were thrown last night, there were only two. They were fine passes, you know, they were where only the receiver could catch it and the DB made nice plays. Jake: Great play, it was... It was fine. Who was it? It was Chiffant. Justin: Yeah, the guy made a nice play twice. He's good. He's good. He's really good. Whatever, but Sam threw it only where Anuna was gonna catch it or Chiffant was gonna break it up. Jake: Even the missed touchdown, it was the same thing. Justin: Same exact thing, it's not an interception and that's okay, you're taking a chance. You're taking a shot in the end zone. Jake: So let's flip over to the other side. So here's the thing. Sam, for all intents and purposes, it's a small sample size, we all have to be like whatever, just can't get, I'm trying not to get too insane. Looks good. Looks like a good player. Next week will be like the real, you know, Justin: game three is a test. He'll play the whole first. They have to play Belle, yes? I think Belle needs to at least, I, a overloaded. series, he's gotta get hit. In my opinion, someone has to hit him. aHe has to get hit. Just game speed, man. I mean, maybe they won't. I know they used to do this with, um, Curtis Martin. They used to... They didn't play him. Curtis Martin used to play one series. Yeah.
02 Jake: In the preseason. One. Literally. One. Um, and that was that. And some didn't. I mean, I think LT never played, um, Thomasin. Never played. He just didn't play. Nope. Justin: No, why did it take the hits? Why take the rest? So I could see we'll see I was he needs the reps He does I feel like he needs to get hit like once he needs to like he needs to get hit So that he feels it and then he's like, okay felt that got up next play And then you can run off the field for all I care, but he needs to get hit. So let's talk about the defense Jake: Uh, sure. So the first game. Yeah, we do this They literally are on for three plays. It was pretty simple. Yeah, but last night I was noticing again, I don't know where I was reading up on it and oh, the Falcons have a good offensive line. Bob, you never know. Guess what? No, it was pressure city and I was loving it. And the thing that all of a sudden it- it was one play where the- they actually completed the pass to whatever some receiver, some guy I don't know, don't care. And all of a sudden out of nowhere just comes Jamal just comes to him flying out and just like crushes him and i'm like, oh my god that guy's everywhere He's just like he was before he's everywhere. He's on every play. It's like. Oh, there he is again. Oh, there he is again There he is. Yeah, he came right through first day blitz. They sat really lying about Justin: They sacked him a few times. I don't think that line is very good and Maybe our defensive lines good, but Leo didn't play big cat didn't play why is that he hurt He's hurt a little knock. They just want to make sure plus Yeah, you have the kids so and and that was that was kind of the best in my opinion one of the better plays They it was like a third down and The announcers were like watch out for number 95 the first round pick. Yeah, you know, he's right there on the other side It's there down as he's ready to go And then he did yeah, like and they replayed it and. Showed it because I was like, okay I'll watch him you tell me i'll watch it. Yeah, so i'm watching i'm like, oh shit like he just got right to matt ryan like real like in the swiftness like and it was uh Like they tackled him for like a two yard gain. Yeah, instead of and then And then for you know, three and out goodbye. He wasn't anywhere. No, not right. But what was cool about it was they they were like because they said watch Gordon Williams I was watching him and then they like replayed what he did. Holy fuck. He lines up over the left guard. Yeah. And he runs him over. Yeah, of course. No, he run like he literally put him on his back. Yeah and Like if Matt Ryan didn't like he fell over him because he literally just pushed him all the way backwards And then he sort of like tripped over him and like tripped at Matt Ryan's feet and almost had his feet
02 Justin: Yeah, although it would have been a sack But it was really cool to see this dude just knock another offensive lineman just back into nowhere. It's like Oh, so you're gonna double team Leo? Do it. Fine. Or you can double team this guy? I think they're gonna double team this guy. I think so. And I think he's still gonna get through on plays, and that's when Leo- He was very disruptive. Yeah. He's a very disruptive force. He's a big, fast dude. Jake: This is why he was drafted. Like, we didn't draft him because he's a slow, thin dude. Like, we drafted him. Justin: He's very, very... He moves a lot up there like it's pretty good. I was pretty impressed It's gonna be fun to watch time Montgomery was impressive last night Robbie Anderson as I said was impressive Corn and Williams was impressive to me CJ Moseley looked pretty good He missed like one or two tackles. I thought he should have made but there were There were a couple of plays that he totally blew up and it was like, oh, okay, he's gonna, he's gonna play this right. Like there was one play where Atlanta set up a screen. And I don't know why, but for some reason I was watching. I was watching Mosley. I was trying to like how good is this guy? So I'm watching him and they set up a screen. So with the screen, you know, he's He's now like blitzing and he's running it like they're inviting him to the quarterback and all of a sudden I see him Go sideways and I'm like, where's he going? Oh shit. He's covering the running back Yeah, he saw that holy fuck and it was like the screenplay that he just blew up Yeah, and he didn't make the tackle and that was the annoying part. He sort of like the guy like snuck out of his arms, but what would have been like probably a 15 yard play turned into like three yard play and I was like, oh, okay, he's definitely better than like Darren Lee Well, yes, he is I'm expecting him to be like really good Henry Anderson was nice up there that the whole line up front did a really nice job He even blocked a field goal. That was pretty nice Um, speaking of field goals, we have a problem with our kicker, don't we? Jake: I guess this could be the thing. This could be like the reason we lose a couple games this year. Cause it better not be. It really shouldn't be. Let's go. Justin: She can never be the reason why you lose games. Cause your kicker can't kick an extra point. Cause your kicker just kicks off. So terrible. Well, this, this guy Bertolette is not going to be our kicker. So, and Canzaro is retired. Jake: Retired. That's an interesting like he was our starter last year, came into camp, I guess was just missing stuff. But we cut him. Justin: Yeah, cut him. And then we brought him back and then we were gonna cut him. So he retired. He just like, I mean he wasn't gonna make it. Jake: Pickers? Like it just feels weird for, I feel like I care he can go to another team. Justin: Like he'd be picked up by the Bears or someone. He was picked up by the Bucks last year. Like when we cut him, but he he was bad.
01 Justin: Yeah, he was really bad. We need a kicker. That's a problem. We need a kicker. Especially if we think we're gonna score. Yeah. Like, I mean last year if you're like, we need a kicker, I'd be like, eh, sorta. Jake: We're not really score. Justin: We're not gonna score that much, like, I guess. Jake: But like, yeah, we need a kicker. This is the thing that I, like, cuz- Justin: It's in the cold weather. You need a kicker. Jake: The thing that I've been noticing or just as a preseason, you know, preseason is just hard to judge. It's hard to- You can go back to the seasons that the Super Bowl champions lost all the games the preseason. But there's a couple preseason that I remember. I remember one was maybe with Fitz that we couldn't score touchdowns. Like for the whole four games, it was just no touchdowns. And it was like, it's a problem. We're like, yeah, it's preseason. It's preseason. Don't worry about it. It's just, you know, it's rust and whatever. Don't worry about it. Thank you. And it became a problem and we could not score throughout that year, like that was a problem. We could not score. And so now I'm looking at it kind of in reverse and thinking, I'm not seeing that this team has a problem putting up points. So we're in this new NFL. Isn't that cool? It is, it's very cool to think. Oh, and there's a couple guys not on the field that might make a difference. And one of them we know will make a difference. The other two, like, okay, they'll make a difference in some way. But having Bell just sort of not be on the field and still watching them walk down the field, he just looks poised. You know, it's hard. You look at this kid and you know he's a kid. You know, he's just like this... Right. He's one of the youngest quarterbacks in the league. No. Let's see. Let's see. I'm super excited. I'm waiting for me game three I'm kind of that's when you actually start to watch so that game is Tom Saturday. Yes I don't know when it is. Yeah, it's on Saturday. It's the Saints the Saints at home. So come back and Have fun. Yeah, well, but it's a good you know, it's good They've got it we don't play them the regular season great unlike the Giants which we do Justin: It would be a good test for the defense. I think just to see what they're all about. Can you cover? Really, can you cover and can you deal with Alvin Kamara? Jake: Yeah, Kamara's going to play. Is there a quarterback? Is there a wide out still? Michael Thomas. Thomas, he's still holding out? Justin: I don't know. I actually have no idea. There's still some holdouts out there in the world. So he's one of them. Some of them running backs are holding out and I think it's ridiculous. What else? It's kind of what they're taking the bell the bell. They're not you see they're not playing it the way bell played it And this is where I think it's a little Little jerky. Okay, which one? Well, I'll talk about Ezekiel Elliott first. I mean the guy played he's been in the league for three whole years, right? He was suspended For six or eight games during one of those years as an asshole, right? So this guy's played one and a half seasons in the league he's got two years left on his contract and he's asking for Todd Gurley money now and
02 Justin: The difference between what Bell did and what Ezekiel Elliott did was Bell played a year under the franchise tag, played out his five-year contract or four-year because he wasn't a first round pick. Four-year contract played under the under the tag and then sat out a season so that he couldn't be tagged again. Right. That's a whole different thing. He played under the tag. Jake: I'm not saying it's the same thing, but it's the same. It's the same thing. It's the mentality. Justin: Yes. To be like, well, you need me. Pay me. Pay me. And I don't think the team should cave on running backs when they're on their rookie contracts like. I just think of it as a unit, quarterback, running back, and you have a budget for that unit, those two positions, and it shouldn't exceed a certain amount because then the rest of your team suffers. That's why the whole rookie quarterback thing like makes a lot of sense. You go get a real good running back or you just have one already that you pay and you have a good running game, essentially. Or the flip side. You have a really flippin' good quarterback, very experienced, like very highly paid, like in Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. And you just keep bringing guys. And you just bring in guys, or like Drew Brees, and you draft Alvin Kamar in the third round, and that's how you do it. But those two positions, you've gotta have a budget. And it's got to be around 30 to 35 million or else you're fucked. Oh, the thing keeps going up. Jake: So it should be a percentage. Like a percentage of you put. I'm sure that they do that, though. Like we're only going to spend this percentage on defense, offense, Justin: a line like we're in a really solid spot because we're below it. And we'll stay below it until that year where Bell becomes a free agent. And we have to sign Sam and that'll be the year that it's like. You're too old goodbye. Hey, you've been here for your three or four years and you're gonna be gone There's no way that guys play on our team in four years. It's just zero. Yeah. No, that's it. He'll be retired I think that I think well, I mean, it's funny guys are like holding that. Sorry. Sorry These guys are holding out and it just shouldn't happen Like it's too early for them to be holding out Jake: but it's it's it came from this the new CBA which which made the rookie wage scale, which made rookies paid less. So they're holding out to get the money earlier. So you remember, and I remember everybody listening remembers, it used to be these massive 20, 30 million dollar contracts like signing bonuses and then these huge contracts coming right out. You were the first rounder and you... you got these big contracts and they thought, well that's not fair because then you don't have money to spend on free agents and people been around in the second so then everybody's just getting money on those busts too. Justin: It was to protect the team really. Jake: Well, again, the money is the money. Justin: No, it's not. You signed your Marcus Russell and you're giving him a $70 million contract which you can't do now.
01 Justin: You can't. You're sort of fucked. Jake: You're fucked if he doesn't, if he's not good, but if he's good, if he comes out and he's a good player, who cares? Then he's getting paid for what he should be doing. Again, I don't, I agree, I like the rookie wage scale, I think it's easier, I like it. I do too. I would like them to even get it better, so there is, it's just kind of automatic. It's like, because they're not arguing about money now, they're just arguing about... small parts of the contract, it seemed like that could be done. But again, this is the CBA that was agreed to by the players. Now, the problem with that is the players who made this and agreed to this are making agreements about something for people who are not in the union. They're like, you know who you should not pay? Those guys in high school. Yeah, those guys. And those guys in college. Right, those guys. Cuz they're not here to vote, so, fuck you. you. So now they're coming in, these guys, and they're like, hey, why should I wait five years to make real money? Grant, what, say I'm at $30 million for four years? That's not, that's 30, that's what, that's what. That's a lot of money. It is, but when you see a quarterback signing for, when you see Stafford sign for 25, $30 million a year Justin: for seven years, you're like, shitballs. Yeah, but in four. He'll still be on that contract and Sam, if you're good, will get a bigger one. That's true. That's the deal. But you gotta play and you get paid. Jake: But now you're a running back. An average running back. Running back is what they paid. Well, running backs, average running back goes out of the commission in like 3.2 years. Justin: Hey man, you wanna make money? Don't be a running back. I know what that's... Go be a defensive back. Then there's no running backs. Go be a linebacker. Jake: The point is, that's why it's happening and it's just because someone shifted the money from one place to another. These people on rookie contracts are trying to take back control and say, hey look, I am that good. I shouldn't be paid... like this and it'll be interesting when they redo this contract to say maybe rookie contracts are less years. Yeah, maybe they're just three years. Three years. Fine. Three years with like Justin: an option on the fourth that's like enormous so that the team can pick it up if they want or Jake: whatever. Or the other way is you do it so there's something and again they're negotiating for people aren't in the league but or they do is like you can't do this. Like you could put it into the agreement that you can't do what they're doing, meaning you cannot. Hold out or do anything like that until until at least your fourth year or something like that Justin: What Michael Thomas is doing to as a receiver But it's like dude you're like a fourth third fourth round pick or whatever like you make third fourth round pick money Jake: And you'll eventually get paid yeah, but everybody knows you're once you're one play away from never playing again They got insurance on that Justin: He doesn't pay you at the hundred million dollar level. No, probably not. It definitely doesn't because it was guess what man You're playing football like I risks are the risks is like rewards of the rewards Jake: But this is why I'm saying this kid is doing this and he has a kid and he's doing it because he's not leverage He doesn't we'll see. I mean Bell won in theory he
02 Jake: He, in theory, in theory. I don't think in the money he won. He didn't. No. He lost. He lost in the money. He did. But he also didn't play for the entire year so he didn't lose lose because lose lose would have been playing under that getting hurt and then getting nothing. Correct. So you have Gordon out there and you have Zeke Elliott and I think they're both in a similar situation. They're, they're a year apart. So like Gordon has a legitimate gripe, I think. Justin: But it's just one year difference. But that year's a big year. Yeah, because he's in his lame duck year. Right. As opposed to Zeke, who's not. Zeke can blow out his ACL tomorrow and be paid next year just fine. Gordon, maybe not. Right. So like Zeke has like coverage. She's got two years left. Gordon doesn't. Jake: Yeah, I hear you again and we also know the Cowboys are dealing with they're trying to sign back Justin: So they can't do both. I mean they can't do both. They have to sign one guard Like if you got a lot of young players on that Cowboys team They're gonna lose yeah And the Rams did it and they're the ones who fucked this up because they did it for girly last year Right and girly and Gordon are the same year. So they did it Early him on the third year on the third year when they shouldn't have but they did it because they were like ah shit We're gonna have to pay golf at some point. So let's just do this now I think we could do golf later Like in two years like they were trying to spread them out because of the guaranteed money and all that other stuff You know, we should talk about Tom Brady I didn't put it on this agenda, but we should talk about Tom Brady for a minute. Well, his contract is weird that he signed. Jake: He basically has a one year deal. It's a one year deal. And he got a lot of money up front. Yeah. And it's over. Yeah, I think so. But he's done this before. No, he hasn't. Yeah, yes. He's done these similar things. Justin: No, he's always taken less money. Always and spread it out and he's never I don't think he's ever been in his lame duck year I don't think he's ever had the year where next year. He's not actually on the team Jake: It doesn't matter he's going to stay on the on the Patriots as long as he's good as long as he's good Well, he just keeps proving he's good Justin: Fucking bomb party, I know I know I know that he did But and then one here's life with that he's been to four straight super bowls. Okay, but his life is not getting easier Okay Jake: He's a mental he's a crazy person. This is his life. He loves this It's like he this is what he wakes up in the morning to do TB. I get it But he's his numbers are declining sure They are but yes But if you're the best of the best and your numbers start to decline you're still better than 90% of them Justin: That's the point his numbers are declining put doesn't he doesn't have a grunk Whatever. He doesn't have some of the things. We do this every year. We're stupid
01 Jake: jazz fans. We sit around every year and we talk about the year that it'll happen. For 20 years we've been talking about it. It's totally happening. Here's the thing. He goes wins a Super Bowl. Another one. He will then just sign a one year 35 million dollar contract. They'll just do year to year with him because here's the thing about that organization. Unlike... Most organizations and including our own fucked up one like I don't know about they're actually all on the same page Justin: Him Bello check and crop craft are all in the same. Yeah, I think they're on the same page like you're gonna retire No, it's gonna see you. Let's see what happens Jake: And if you're not doing well, and if you want to leave great You're out and you retire and you're the greatest quarterback to ever play the game But if you do great and you want to do one more year, one more year, then he does one more year. I guess. Like, he doesn't matter. They don't care. Justin: I feel like he was average last year. But that's okay. Jake: Pfft. Justin: It's fine. Uh, but his average is still better than... Well, alright. I mean, he didn't even throw 30 touchdowns and he threw 11 picks. Like, that's a lot for Tom Brady. He's had years where he's thrown two interceptions. Yes! Like, he is declining. Yes, but it is a decline. And when it happens, it happens for the quarterback though. When you are this good, when you're the goat and you decline, you just become the goat. Do you remember Peyton Manning's last year? When they did win the World Series, but Brock the Cock was legitimately holding him. Did I say World Series? Yeah, you said World Series. Super Bowl Series. I'm still tired. You're tired. Do you remember that that year he retired but Brock really there was a big question going into the playoffs Jake: Like this is a game rocker man, but then Brock look terrible in the third game They're like Peyton couldn't even throw the ball. No, it was bad. It was bad. Yeah, it goes pretty fast Justin: When it goes it goes it I I'm waiting for it to go Jake: I think I think the thing is you you are you're using I'm so ready for it But you are using the examples of human beings and need to stop Because we're not dealing with a human being we're dealing with an alien. Yes, so like you can't you can't compare him to to Peyton Manning No, why? because you have the greatest of all time and you can't compare him to the not greatest of all time. Justin: So there is this just he could break every fucking thing. He could play the he's 50. All right. All right. You take that. I'm gonna take the he's done. Well, let's just stop with that. Done. Just beat him. Jake: All right. Beat him. Well, we're gonna beat him. Well, that's all that matters. I don't want to wait. Easy. I don't want to be a Jess fan who waits for other teams to get bad. I just want to Beat the... fuck out of them, not how good they are. You're good? We'll fucking beat you, because we're better. That's it. Let's just be better than them. Let's be better than Brady. Yes. Do I think that is the decline? Do I think they're not having... Sure, sure, sure. But they, they... Oh, he lost this player and that player and he's not gonna be as good when he doesn't have Randy Moss anymore. I mean, it's just, but they just get better. And they'll hand him some other guy
01 Jake: and there'll be some other guy named Bonk. And Bonk will be the best and it'll be like go Bonk go. It's just the way they are. No, no, no, no, no. And here's the reason you have to just become good, because guess what? They're gonna find the heir apparent and he's gonna be really good. He's not gonna be goat level, but he will be really good because he'll be in that system and he'll be coached by one of the best until you get rid of fucking Belichick. Justin: Well, yeah, they're good because we saw it right when it was it it was forever ago, but it happened Jake: Yeah, like you literally just take this dude. Oh, you're down the dude Oh you backed up this dude go sign in this other place and because it's just it happened. All right. Let's move. All right Let's move on fine. All right. So what's next game? So we got saying Saturday Justin: Injuries of note. Oh, yeah. Tremaine. So this guy Tremaine Johnson. Is this the worst thing we've ever done? And man, it's getting there. Other than the second. Well, this is our number one corner and last year he missed six games and he's already. hampered with a hamstring injury and he's listed as Week to week not even day to day he injured himself in practice socks and We don't know if he's gonna be ready for week one This is that's a that's a big problem because Our wide our corner corner back Situation is not super deep. Nope And if we're gonna lose the one that we think it's pretty good Jake: Maybe then good, but he's not as good as he is being paid to be good. Yes. That's a problem and then Justin: You know, you still got some other guys who we just haven't seen yet, like Big Cat. And I think he'll be fine by all accounts. It's just precautionary that he's not playing at the moment. Marcus May, he's suited up in practice. That's good. All signs are that we'll see him. You know, by opening day. Jake: I feel like he's the person on the team that I now... I'm like kinda just wincing every time I see him tackle somebody, because he's kind of been hurt two years in a row. That's alright though. Justin: There's a thing. It's just a thing, but I just think these aren't soft tissue injuries. Which one is this for him? Um, isn't this like a shoulder injury or something? You know, or something. It could be soft tissue by the way. Jake: Last year was like 10 days. There are just people who are built differently. Justin: Professional football player, so yeah built like glass. He made his way through college He made his way through his rookie year and ding yam. I gotta see the guy play a fucking full season
01 Justin: You see him play a full season his rookie year. I've seen his third year. This is going to start here I'm in Jamal or the same year All right, there are tandem. Let's get Bell out there. Yeah, we need Bella. I'm gonna see some Bell. We need some Bell ring that Bell Jake: We're done, ring the fucking bell. Alright, we'll be back maybe next week. We still got our big extravaganza pick every game. We gotta do the pick every game situation. Lots of arguments with other Jets fans who are trying to tell me all sorts of things but we'll do that before. We'll do that usually the first week. We were the first game of the season. Justin: Yeah, just so we know the injuries. Jake: But I will tell you, it's been since a while and... I'll say it again, we were talking about some of the JETs, and I was like, my dream came true. The dream I've ever had in 10 years or more, of going to the draft and having people not be like, Well, JET's got a picket. quarterback because that's what one of the biggest needs and now we got this guy and it almost looks like he's For reals. He looks like he's good and he's he's like a good guy Like he's like this really just wholesome. I should good. He's big. He's fast He's gonna take he takes the media. He is he's not getting into all the shit I mean as much as Baker may feel would have been fun. I see you're fun I do think that New York would have both and spit them out, because as soon as he came out with his list of reporters and like, you know, Minish Meta's gonna go after him and like, they, they're all fucking bell. I mean, sorry, after Sam Darnold, I love Sam Darnold. Yeah. It's a very positive media and you got all these, you know, stories. And now the only thing they're talking about is the, the Hays and Williams and our, they playing tough and, you know, whatever. I'm. I might need to go on the record that I just don't think Gace is real. It proves me wrong. I just there's something about him. It just I don't I don't know. Maybe it's the crazy eye tacos. I don't know. I just can't take it. It's not a real clue. It's not a real person. Anyway, all right, we'll be back in a couple of weeks or next week or whenever we have a chance next S week's going to be so probably two weeks. And we'll review the last couple games. We'll make our picks for the season. By the way, if you're the Jet Kingdom pick them, that's the one on Yahoo. Check my Twitter at Jet Kingdom. I posted that. Maybe I should pin it. God, I've got to pin it. So you can join that. We do that every year. That's where we pick every game. So then you can pick against us and see if you're better than us. I'm always better than Justin. And we are doing the Jet Kingdom. Um. Enough people came at me at Twitter. Yes. I want to be in yes. I want to be in so we're doing the jet Kingdom Fantasy League again, if you're not going to be in this year, just let me know there's I've already gotten emails and Twitter Dms from people who want to be in the league So just if you're not gonna be in please let me know that's where we can and also I went to one of you I forgot who threw the wire you won last year. So you get to make your rule change Justin: Make a change. So make a change
00 Justin: PPR PPR decimals or individual defensive players Jake: Whatever you want or touchdowns or 30 points Justin: Yeah. Jake: It could be anything. I don't know. Yeah, well, we're talking. What are we leaving? Justin: Touchdown's by a jet. 30 points. Jake: Can't score that. That's going to be a nightmare, nightmare disaster. Alright, so that's it. Touchdowns are worth 4 points. We'll be wrapping it up. As always, Justin Jake saying, let's go Jets!
