20 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. Longest running New York Jets podcast period incense. My name's Jake. Join me. 318 times in a row. Good man Charlie here. Justin. How you doing Justin? I'm preparing. You are in very little jet skier. I am in double jet skier. You're my new jet skier. Polo on with the new Jets logo and I have my old Jets Shoes on which are creaky. Oh don't know why they're creaky. I mean I Have my Jets cocking on oh I thought we were gonna try to make this less explicit Yeah, we were going to try to say that. Yeah, well, I was going to. Oh, fuck that. All right. And there we go. Justin: And fine. Jake: All right. Justin: All right, here we go. Let's do it. Jake: What we got? We got tons. Well, let's talk about the preseason games. We have tons to do. We have an hour. Justin: I don't want to talk about preseason games. Jake: No, we're going to talk about preseason games. They're over. Just general overall feelings. Then we're gonna talk about the final roster, talk about news, and then we really have to get into all the picks. We have to pick the weeklies, we have to pick the dailies, we have to pick the Justin: yearlies, we have to pick everything. All of the things. All the things. Let's do this. And Jake: we've talked about the fantasy league results, which is a lot. It's a lot. I mean, we don't have Justin: to talk about that. We could, but we don't have to. Jake: We don't have to, because... But we could. Really, not that many people are in it. Well, there's only 12 of us. Right. It's true, but they like to hear about it. It was great. You guys did great. What do you want to do first? The preseason? Yeah. Okay. Like, preseason... Preseason. Thoughts and opinions. Sure. I watched three games. I did not watch game four. I watched zero minutes of game... I did watch game four. Yeah, you were sitting there watching it. I was not I was in your apartment with you You were watching it. I was doing other things you were drafting I was drafting and we not watching double at one point. We were doing two drafts at the same time almost So I don't know what happened in game four and I will not pretend to Justin: I will mostly focus on game three sure against New Orleans I thought that our first team defense looked like shit against a first team offense that is one of the best in the league. So that was a good test and a good fail. Drew Brees, Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara went right down the field. Not even, they didn't even break a sweat.
00 Justin: Nope. It was five plays done. Yep touchdown touchdown. They picked on Neville Hewitt. That's bad If you notice number 46 out there, he's a huge target in the middle of the field to throw at Not good because he was covering Kamara on one of those plays that just didn't work out very well And Michael Thomas is really good and better than a backup corner There was good defense being played just better offense So that was not good. We made some field goals, but then I guess there were some missed ones in the fourth game. Jake: He missed two out of four. Justin: So he was cut. He was cut. So that's great. And then I will say I did like what I saw over the course of the three games with. with what the offense could be. Because I don't think we saw much, but we did see some tempo. Jake: Like we saw them moving a little faster. First two games that came out, they started playing no huddle. Yeah, just faster. I like faster. Justin: Faster is always good. Sam looks pretty decisive through zero interceptions. Think you through like the first pass was like a dropped interception, but nothing else. Yeah close I think he's gonna miss Chris Herndon in the first four weeks when he suspended or a first five weeks I think we have a buy in there somewhere and The offensive line not having played together is gonna be Challenge when then you have another guy named Lady on Bell who hasn't played yet either. So that's a big deal We'll see how that works out during week one which we're currently in week one Jake: There is real football two days from today. I know is day And we're we had another draft tonight. So that's happening. Justin: But that was my take on the preseason. I'm excited. I do feel, however, that we haven't yet seen what this offense is going to really look like. And I do think the defense should change right now and they should shift to a four three. No questions asked. Jake: I feel, this is gonna sound weird, but I feel less, I feel less sure of this team after the preseason than going into the preseason. And maybe sure we lost a massive player, okay that'll happen, but I felt like we had a lot more weapons and that they were gonna show up and be better than what we saw. Like I didn't... So I'm almost feel like yes the stuff that we thought was gonna be good without Sam's me better. I'm super happy to see that But I'm like I don't know if that's gonna work if are we gonna have one of the seasons where our defense is you know
04 Jake: Just dog-awful and anybody can throw on us left and right and we're gonna be playing catch up the whole time Second ring second round or second year quarterback with what we say are some weapons But they're not the top caliber weapons It's gonna be hard like he's you know put up 40 points a game It's gonna be hard and granted we had missing players in fairness. Yeah, his best weapon didn't play Justin: It but that's a huge unknown the weapon that takes The fifth element. Well, it's the weapon that Needs to really be game plan for it. But the only guy That any team is game planning for when they're playing against the Jets is Le'vium Bell and Maybe Robbie Anderson saying try not to let him beat you deep But that's about all they're saying about him right they're not like Robbie Anderson. Holy shit We got no just don't let him beat you down the field Like keep him in front of you cuz he's a stick and you just knock him over if he catches it Well, maybe on Bell's like a whole different ballgame. He's gonna be all over the goddamn field you saw it with Montgomery It's gonna be similar. He's just gonna be faster and better Jake: I'm not as worried about the offense as I was last year kind of didn't expect much of them last year But I'm now kind of worried about the defense like I feel like our secondary Could be the worst in the league if now for those safeties You have you have two pretty good safeties out there two pretty good safeties, but tromond I don't know what his deal is. I don't know what johnson's deal is for the week one I have no idea about robert if you tell me that darryl roberts is on the other side i'm like, uh, Justin: He's a fine number two corner. He's just not like What you don't have is the true number one lockdown where you can roll some stuff his way It's like no you're both gonna need some help. I think Jake: So it it it's gonna have to be some creative stuff That's I guess that's where it gets fun to see williams and what he can draw up He's he's gonna throw a lot of people. Maybe the williams brothers up there will be so disruptive that it's just that's the idea No seconds to pass the ball. Justin: The idea is that they don't have to blitz as much because in years the years past Todd Bowles was if not the I think he was the most aggressive in terms of dialing up blitzes. So even with extra men coming we were not getting to the quarterback. Right. So I'd bother. Like have that guy cover somebody. I got you. Like let these big guys get to the quarterback or not. And that's why I'm all about switching to like a 4-3. Like why roll for, why have this backup guy in the middle of the field? He's just gonna get picked on by tight ends and running backs. Like why not just let your best three linebackers play.
02 Justin: And why try to squeeze a fourth one in there when you have a better lineman like wouldn't you feel better with like? McClendon and Williams in the middle with Anderson and Williams as defensive ends Wouldn't that just feel better than Neville you it being on the field You're gonna shut the rundown with those four guys that's true I Jake: I don't think running up the middle is going to be a thing against us, but on the outside, it's always been hard. And if Kamara is any indicator of it, he was able to run freely. Yeah. And that guy's really good. He's one of the best. Yeah. And he proved it. Justin: They got Drew Brees in there. That's nothing. He's one of the best as well. Jake: He's he's in the hall. He could he could step off the field tomorrow and walk into his get his. suit made his jacket. And then again, the offensive line, like, yeah, like not having them all play once ever seeing them together, really. And the Ryan Coyle like experiment is now we'll find out. We'll find out. We'll find out. And I'm just I think that's fine. Oh, God, I mean, nerves. But it's fine. Justin: Quite frankly, it's totally. It's a very low risk high reward thing. Jake: I mean, so what? You have Jonathan Harrison who is going to play anyway. Here's the risk. What's the risk? Your star quarterback franchise of your team gets hurt. Justin: Okay, but that's why you signed Ryan Cleel. No, I got it. I got it. I don't know what he's at. I don't know where he might not be better than Jonathan Harrison, which is fine Then you go with Jonathan Harrison. Jonathan Harrison was the guy So if you thought he sucked be happy that Ryan Khalil's here to maybe be Jake: Be better than hopefully be better Alright, so they also cut down. So let's go through this roster ready. Sure. Alright, we had two quarterbacks Yep, Sam and Seaman Sam and Seaman. I like him. Yep I mean if we couldn't have Brock the cock we at least have semen I would you know Trevor is I saw him play he played I think in the he played in the third game a bit Justin: They played in all the fourth game to play normally games. Yeah Jake: Again, I think I turned you you weren't watching the game because you're a terrible fan and I said I think he's someone who could come in in the third quarter if we're up and not lose the game and I think he's someone who could maybe if Sam were out for like four games which pretty much I think is the amount that a star quarterback can be out and your season isn't over. Like you're at six games, I think you're over, but if you're at four games you can consider the Patriots. You can survive. Unless you're the Pats. Well they didn't go to the Super Bowl that year. Well, they did last year or two years ago, but not they with their super with their stark order back Justin: I got a back right now it went the year you missed the first but that was for injury That was first don't miss the first four games four games. That's the number didn't seem to matter
03 Jake: I've been went three and one five games is too many. I think what you want for a four game is a two and two it's Trevor simian I think you want two and two and I think Trevor simian is good enough to get you to two and two Justin: Maybe he's definitely not good enough to get you to four and oh he's definitely bad enough to get you to him for though Jake: Totally that's why so okay. There's a quarterback all right running backs as of now for it Lay beyond Bell oh by the way we should just mention this now Justin: We recorded the the last podcast we recorded Yes, the news came out like three hours after we recorded it that Avery Williamson had a torn ACL. That's why we didn't mention it on our podcast. Jake: Oh, okay. I didn't know that. Yeah. Oh, okay. That's why the last pod didn't mention it. It happened. It came out the same day. Justin: Just you probably saw this the day after and figured what the fuck's wrong with those guys. Jake: Why didn't they mention it? Well, it didn't happen yet. All right, next. Running back. Leveon. Justin: Timon gum ream below Powell and Trent cannon. I'm happy by you. I'm a choir. Yeah, I'm not happy with that Jake: I knew my boy you liked him. He's my boy Trent cannon has more value Oh my god, you pissed over this guy last year Justin: You know, I play special teams and is good as a gun around. All right. All right, go ahead. All right tight ends We know we're missing one. He'll come out these guys may get cut down the road. Ryan Griffin, he's catching one from the Texans. I don't think he played last year. Wesco is the guy we drafted and Daniel Brown, Jake: I don't even know who that is. That's this cut with her back. Daniel Brown gets cut. On the line, I think this is all because Justin: one of these things is on the injured book. Kelvin Beach, Brian water prime winters, Brandon Shell, Ryan, Cleo, Colleccio, Samly. That's your starting five. Volley went to quality. Jake: So they have this with quality on the roster. I think he's on the injured reserve. He is. He says so he's listed as a fourth. Oh, yeah, I will get the official one on on the jet.com. Ah, gotcha. Justin: Harrison, Alex, Louis, Adoga. And then, the dog is the only backup tackle, rookie, third round pick, and the backup tackle. That's a little scary. Do you want to talk about our plight? Jake: Um, let's get through this roster, maybe when we get to line up. We'll just mention. Alright, wide receivers, five. Justin: Robbie, Anunwa, Crowder. Bellamy. Braxton Berrios. Is that a special team run? Jake: It really started sounding good until you hit there. Justin: I thought that guy, Dorch, was going to make the roster. I think he made the practice. Jake: He's the practice squad. Yeah. Justin: He was really returning punts very well. Jake: Yeah, I don't know. They put them on special teams.
00 Jake: Hold on. All right. Weird. Yeah, he's on. He's a partner to our special teams. Justin: So he did make the roster. Jake: Yeah, he's listed as special teams. OK, that's what on the website as of now. OK, I'm on a different website. Justin: Defensive line, Leonard Williams, Quentin Williams, kafu see Kyle Phillips, John Franklin, Meyer, some of these guys are getting cut. Nathan Shepherd, Steve McClendon, Henry Anderson and Farah Kasey. That would be nice. So this is where polite would be. the Jake: Yeah, so this is a Um, Douglas has no allegiance to anybody. Whereas, and good batter and different. He has no allegiance to anybody. No players, no whatever. He didn't do that draft. I didn't make this kitchen. These are not my, these are not my, so if I just don't want somebody, I can get rid of them. That's a very wasted spot now. You've now taken a spot of your of a pick which you don't get a lot of and that's completely wasted. And you can always blame the guy who just went out the door. Fine, but that's why it would have been better to fire the guy before. Fire him with, again, way back machine, go back and fire him and get the GM and the head coach together, bring him in together, have him on board, have him do the draft together. Because now I can just have this feeling of like Oh right, this guy who drafted all these players, but he's gone, so now this guy has no allegiance to them, so that could be a wasted draft. Justin: Two things on that. And actually three. One, the allegiance thing, I think, like you said, good, bad, or indifferent. Jake: Because it really could be- It's because GMs hold on to guys that they drafted. Justin: Right, because it could be a good thing, right? Like, eh, I drafted this guy, I'm gonna hold on to him. Why? Jake: Except for the fact that it's wasted. It's never a good thing you waste a third round pick. Okay, right. It's going to Justin: but why hold on to a guy if he's gonna suck, right? There's no point. Just because I drafted him, like should Hackenberg still be on a roster? They held him forever. Ever, like two years is forever for a second round pick quarterback? That's forever in your book. Jake: That's a long time. Justin: Two years is a long time. Was it two or three? I think it was three. Two. Chest through? Two. Might not even been a full two. It might have just been the one red shirt year, and then he just didn't even make the D. Jake: Definitely two, because he won red shirt year
00 Jake: the next year they put him out there a couple times. And he was awful. No, he played in the end of the year. I don't think so. But anyway, it doesn't matter. That's irrelevant. Two things on this. Justin: One. The guy had character a lot of character question marks coming in and they took a shot a chance Maybe we get a first round talent with a third round pick Just because he's got character issues and that's worked for other teams in the past and it's definitely backfired In this case a certain backfire. There was relent Um, it was not confirmed by Adam Gace, but it's come out that this guy has been fined over a hundred thousand dollars. That was confirmed. That was confirmed. Oh, so someone else confirmed it. Yeah. Because Gace would not. Jake: No, he wouldn't, but he, yeah, the, he was over. Justin: So clearly the guy's an issue. Yeah. And they took a chance and they got rid of him. Fine, I'm fine with that. Getting rid of a guy who's clearly an asshole is fine with me not being on the team. Now, the whole when you fire, hire, whatever a GM, the only counter I can have to that is. And I did this offline with you, but I'll bring it online to the to the podcast is that the coaches season. and the GM's season are different. Right? The timing of it. The coach's season ends when the season ends. Like the last day of the season or if you make the playoffs, the last day of that or if you win the Super Bowl that day, the day after. That's when your season's over. You can take a break. The GM season is not over at that point. It's almost just ramping up. But it's been ramped because they've been doing work the whole year. And now they're transitioning into or continuing with prep for free agency, prep for the draft. I understand, but you're already into this thing. because your regular season did just end. You're not trying to go fill roster holes, put guys on the IR, whatever. You're building your free agency wish list. The season is over. You know, no, I'm losing these guys. This guy's definitely injured next year. I know it because it just happened. All these things. And you're getting ready for your draft that you've been getting ready for and free I think that if you went back and looked at GM's that were hired in that window You'd find that there are a lot of shitty GM's because they're willing to take that job at that point in time, which is not the optimal time to take the job as the GM, the optimal time to take a job as a GM is after the draft is over. Because that's when you get your full season started again. Yeah, I don't- I feel as though if you went back- I don't like that argument.
00 Justin: I don't care what you like or don't like, the facts of the matter is our- Our last two GMs we hired as part of firing the coach. Yeah, I know. And they both sucked. Yeah, but so many GMs suck. But dude, both of these guys are like really good examples of terrible GMs who drafted so terribly over the years. Jake: I don't think it's about when you hire not. The only argument, the good argument is... is that we have this guy that we like him and that we have him and that maybe we wouldn't have got him at that point. I don't think you would. So if you get a guy and he turned out to be a great guy but in two years or three years if he's just as shitty as every GM we've ever had, well then we're all gonna go, well then it really doesn't matter when you hire them. You can hire them at Christmas, you can hire them in September, you can hire them in August, it doesn't really matter if you hire a bad one. It doesn't matter when you hire them. A bad GM is a bad GM. It'd be a fun experiment to do. Fine. I totally get it. I get it from the timings perspective, but then you can make the counter argument is, you let this guy spend all this money, set all this things, do this draft, and it's already proven out. We have... Evidence of of Gace not liking some of the money spent for certain players. That's already been that's all the owner Justin: It's all the owner. The owner is the one Like you can't fire the owner and guess what good teams Have periods of time that they're really good for over the course of time because their owners are so awesome so far Jake: So good with Joe. Um What hasn't done much hasn't done much except for a couple guys Justin: All right, literally the next two days. Jake: All right, we need to move off of roster. All right, roster is done. Justin: Anything like surprising? Nothing, really. Just this kicker situations and pull pile of poo. Jake: If we lose freaking games because of some rando kicker, Justin: like we have like a rookie who's a punter and a kicker. Did you know that? No. The Vikings traded with. So the Ravens had him. He went like 12 of 13 in the preseason. During like the Ravens first four games. I guess they played five because they played in the the Hall of Fame game Yeah, so the Vikings trade they give up a fifth round pick for this guy They get him. He misses a field goal during their preseason game. They cut him Then we pick him up. Wow. He's a punter and a kicker. It's great I love that idea. No. I want them to do both. Oh no. Hold for yourself. Just hold it yourself. Jake: All right, what are we doing next? Let's do, let's do talk about the season. Let's pick the season. Do the season? Yeah, we gotta do season because we only have 40 minutes left. What in the fuck? Justin: Why? 330 locked down. Oh my God. You're the worst. All right. Let's do the schedule. Jake: Worst. I'm the worst. Should we do week one or should we wait? We wait on week one. No, we can do week one because then we'll just cover it. We'll cover it when we cover it. When? When is now? Soon. Uh, all right. This is just a quick one. When? Oh, well, okay. Because we'll
05 Jake: really talk about it then. I agree. Win 1-1. Huh? 1-0, sorry, 1-0. Justin: Okay, that's the first game. Relax. 1-0. We 2. Browns. Monday night. Win. 2-0. Jake: This is tough. There's no reason. we shouldn't win this game but I feel like this is that time where the Browns I could just see all the stars and the things and Odell and the Baker and and oh it just makes me want to puke in my mouth but we're at home so we win 2-0 week 3 at the Patriots that's a loss 2-1-1 it's a deep loss my my only hope is that we Don't look like a pile of poo. Justin: Week four, bye. We win. We win the bye every year. Week five, at Philly. Loss. Two and two. Agreed. Jake: I think that's gonna... We don't win there. We don't win there. Ever. Ever? We never won there? I think we're 0 and 11. Justin: I wouldn't mind going to that game though. Wouldn't mind betting against us on that game. Wanna go we go we go let's go. Let's go. I'm gonna go that can get that stadium. Hey, it's my birthday It's my birthday only three days before that. All right. I have to go over to your birthday All right, so we're two and two in both of our books Yes week six Cowboys 425 start big time Jake: Victory three and two I agree. I think we can take the Cowboys Cowboys Last time plays at home beat them. Do you remember sure do 9-11? Justin: Revas Revas that play like where he does head him up. Yeah. All right, so we both have us at Three and two that's correct Patriots coming back to town week seven. This is a win four and two This is the win that catapults the Patriots into their season But we're gonna beat them and they're gonna lose they're gonna be like three and three We're gonna be four and two and then they're gonna finish like 13 and three But yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with the win here three. We're gonna beat them four and two Jake: Yeah, sorry. No, that's not going to happen. We don't beat the Patriots. We're going to Patriots on Monday night. I get it's at home, so I think we close. It could be an epic game. Well, of course. Wait, we there here. It's here here. Oh, my God. It's going to be so good. Now we're going to lose that game. You just don't beat the Patriots on Monday night. You just don't. I mean, it happens. Panthers beat the games ago. Kansas City's crush them. That's true. I'm four and two where you at? I'm at three and three. At Jags, my Jags. Five and two. I think we can win against the Jags. I don't know where they'll be in their season. Like they're a weird team.
01 Jake: I think we can beat the Jags. So I think we'll get, I'll say four and three. We'll be coming out, coming back. Justin: At Miami. Jake: Strange loss. Five and three. Yeah. It's gonna be a weird day. It's just gonna be a strange loss. I don't know why. Okay. I agree. We'll lose that game. So I'm at four and four. I'm at five and three. Alright, so is that marathon Sunday? It is marathon Sunday. Alright, week 10. Giants! Giants suck. Giants be playing a whole bunch of backups. I can. We'll win this. 5 and 4. We're winning that. Okay. At Washington. 7 and 3. You have a 3 week 3 week week, 3 week, 3 week, 3 week. Just wait. Oh my god, this is gonna get, we're gonna predict in Super Bowl again. I'm going 6 and 4 here. I feel like, I feel like we can beat the Giants. You know that we're not good against the NFC East. We don't do this. So. They're gonna be playing some bullshit quarterback though. That is true. I think we're 6 and 4 coming off the Washington game. Justin: Alright, I think we're at 7 and 3. We got the Raiders. They're garbage. 8 and 3. 6 and 5. You think they're gonna win? They're garbage. You've been watching this hard Jake: now? I've seen that garbage team win against other good teams. I don't know. I just don't think we're gonna be putting together just... I don't think we're putting together... Where do you have us? We're now at 6 and 5. And I'm at eight and three. Justin: Yeah, you're, you're kind of going to see who's going to be one of the worst teams in the league, nine and three. No, we're now seven and five. Fine. Beat the, the, the, and now we'll take the one from the dolphins. Cause we dropped it earlier. Jake: 10 and three, we haven't won 10 games in like so many fucking years. I'm eight and five. We beat the dolphins. We'll split with them. I totally see that happening. Justin: And then we go to Baltimore on Thursday. 10 and 4. That's a loss. Jake: There you go. Not doing that. That brings us to 8 and 6 in my book. I agree. We're going to lose there. Justin: Week 16, Pittsburgh. winning your in the playoffs 11 and 4 are you stupid you know when I guess for we're gonna beat them at home in December in the cold take your towels go the fuck home yeah we're going to the playoffs you're not in Leveon's running for 250 Jake: I like the LaVion angle. I do not like us winning that game. Steelwars are generally turning it on at that point. They like the Patriots of the whatever. Unless there's some crazy thing happening, we're losing that game. Justin: We're eight and seven. And at 11 and four we go into the last week of the season.
03 Justin: Locked in as the five seed. Trevor Simeon leads us to a loss. 11 and five. Jake: disadvantaging the Justin: season over 11 and 5. Sam is 11 and 4. Seaman, we're 9 and 7. Alright, I'm 11 and 5. Jake: And we're making the playoffs as the 5th season. 9 and 7 and we... I honestly have to say we can't make the playoffs in AFC East with 9 and 7. I just don't think it... Not in our division. Why? The division doesn't matter. All right, as a wild card. Yeah, no, I don't think so. I just don't see it happening. I'd love to think it was going to happen. I'd love there to be upside. But to me, a winning season, two games over whatever. Five hundred a good season. We beat some good teams. I think we'll all be very happy with that season. And we'll be going into the next season going now. Now let's go draft three offensive linemen. Justin: All right. Let's do the rest of what do we do? The rest of the league. Yeah, so generally then we let's do the AFC. Sure. It's going to win each division and then the two wild cards. Sure. OK. So I'll state it for the record right now that the wild cards are coming out of the AFC East and the AFC West. Okay, all right. I think Kansas City is the number one Jake: Like we normally do. Okay, great. You have... All right, go for it. Justin: Kansas City is gonna be the one seed. They're gonna win the AFC West. Okay. New England's gonna be the number two. Jake: Agree with that. They're gonna win the AFC East. Who you got in the North? Justin: Yeah, I like Cleveland. Oh, come on. Yeah, I think that as the fourth, third seed? Well, I was gonna say it's either them or Houston, in my opinion. At the 3-4 spots. I don't like the AFC North. I don't think they're very good. I know the Bengals stink. I don't think Baltimore is gonna be very good. And Pittsburgh lost some firepower. Like that'll be interesting to see how they come back from that. We'll see. He's still a quarterback. They do, he's getting old. So those are my winners. Kansas City, New England, Cleveland. Jake: And Houston, I will I'll swap out your Cleveland for Steelers, but the rest I agree with. and then I think the Chargers and the Jets make the playoffs as the wildcards. See, I like the Ravens to make the wildcard.
07 Jake: Um, Chargers, I'm trying to think from that division. There's no one else I really even I mean it would have been the Colts, but you know, no more luck. Yeah, I would have had the Colts winning the South. Justin: Um, yeah, but I think Houston ends up winning the South and I don't, Tennessee's that good. I don't believe in Marios. Jake: I don't either. You know what? I'll go crazy and put. I'll put the Jags in there. You're just going to put the Jets in. Will you? I'm not putting the Jets in. No, sure. It's not going to happen. Justin: All right. Who's, uh, do you want to do the NFC and then we can do, um, We do generally do the Super Bowl after that Do that FC yeah sure okay? Where do you want me to start I go ahead with this see if I disagree with anything okay? I think Philly wins that I think they come back off of that a little Super Bowl hangover year last year, they get a healthy whence and they roll. I like the Cowboys out of the East. Jake: I just don't know what to think about Zeke. I think he's going to be back in a week and he'll be fine. I just don't know about that. And then I think they'll be fine. I also don't know if they're that good, to be honest with you. Justin: So I like Philly to win that division. I like Chicago to win the North. Yes. Wow, not the pack Yeah, I don't think the pack are that good. I also new head coach Jake: It's gonna be a whole nother team. One of the greatest quarterbacks. I'm sorry like these quarterbacks Justin: Keep these keen lives. I got the Jake: I've got cowboys. Oh, you have cowboys. I have cowboys and packers. Okay. Uh, and then in the Justin: It's gonna be a North team. I just can't decide if it's gonna be Minnesota or Green Bay. I think I'm gonna go with Minnesota. I have Chicago to take in that wild card spot. Yeah, we both have two out of the North. Where do you have your second wild card? Uh, Eagles. I feel two out of the East. Yeah, okay. We play these that's tough. Alright, so then What is going on with the with the Super Bowl? I think we're gonna have a crazy Super Bowl Jake: I think the Chiefs will get over there tonight and I think they'll make it all the way through Andy Reed. No
01 Jake: I think Andy Reid and all, I mean, he makes the Super Bowl. He's never won one. He's only made one. He's made one. One. All these years. Still made one. I think it'll be... I kind of just keep... Until Aaron Rodgers retires, I'm gonna keep picking the Packers to be in the Super Bowl. because he's one of the greatest quarterbacks this side of Tom Brady. Okay. And I just think that this is a team that could get some again, you take a dozen or new anything. I think they need the new blood. The Packers are a good team. I can see them. I can see them. I have the Packers winning against the Chiefs in a score up high shooting game. 45, 42, I got the MVP being Rogers. Okay, that's my prediction. Remember, I'm the only person on this podcast, who's ever been correct on the MyPic, and I actually picked the winner and the actual Super Bowl and picked it correctly. So I just wanna put it out there to the universe. Okay. Okay, great. Justin: Okay. Great, that's good. Okay, great. Thank you for that. You're welcome. So. Um unpopular opinion but But in the AFC I think New England's gonna be back in the Super Bowl. Oh, come on. Why bet against the thing that happens every year? It's gonna be easy. And then super easy. Let me put the bears in there. Jake: and Bears Bears Patriots who wins bears 17 13. Yeah, cuz he's that's the up and down like they That it that it can we call it a day for Tom Brady at that point? There's 17 Patriots They're tell me the worst Super Bowl ever and they're really good defensive Super Bowl super to enjoy some defense I mean it's super terrible sounds pretty decent to me enjoy some defense so that's it I got bears over patrons yep and I have the Packers over the cheats I don't think that is too ever met in this overall Packers Chiefs yeah Maybe like Super Bowl one Maybe all right. Let's get to picking now. I go to a week. I might not have been kidding there. Oh So it's a little early They have. So on the on the NFL 100th anniversary, it's a repeat. Someone set this up. It's not the Super Bowls anniversary, but whatever. Good job. NFL 100. Well done. That's good. Roger, you don't want to. Way to go. Way to be. All right. What's next? What's next on this huge agenda? Agenda. We are now going to do the Jekkingen Pickham. Oh, let's do this. Justin: Yeah. Oh, man. I'm so ready. Jake: Yes, so this is it for all of you just for you out there listening if you want to join go to Yahoo
03 Jake: Let's go to Yahoo fantasy sports It's you just sat go into the pick um this called Yahoo fantasy and it's a there's a pick um and there's a group That's group number one one four two zero. I also tweeted out a while ago You can play against us and we will if you're doing well, we will talk about you if you're doing poorly Well, we'll talk about you too Justin and I pick against each other every week. This is how we do our picks with the spread. And that's it. And it goes all the way through the end of the Super Bowl. So it's kind of fun. So let's go. And then we leave out the AFC East because that's called our throne picks. That's a throne with a pun. And then we talk about that and we do a little bit more in depth and we pick the game of the century, game of the year. And man, football's back. So let's go. Football is so, so back. Justin: Let's do this. So Thursday night, two days from now, Chicago Super Bowl champs hosting. Super Bowl champs Green Bay. Oh, it's the it's the Chicago favored by three at home. Give me the Bears. Bears. Do we know what the reason on this was? Reason for why this is the opening game? Yeah. Schedules? I don't know. Now there's a whole thing about it like the Patriots not going to do it. Maybe well the Patriots are assholes. Maybe because it's the hundredth season they're just doing like the matchup like hey this one they've been playing for like that long yeah like this is one of those original like real deals you match up in Green Bay keep it Jake: in close okay um do you think they're gonna win yeah I think the way to I'm not a believer a double donk donk donk I'm not a believer in the, I think the bears are a little bit of flash in a pan. You think? Yeah, I don't know if they're the real deals. The real deal, McGillicuddy. No. Are you really, dude, you're gonna put all of your eggs in the Trebisci basket? Yeah. Really? You think he's gonna come out and be a legit starter, top 10 quarterback this year? Justin: I believe in the system he plays in. Okay, we'll see. Okay, Cleveland is hosting Tennessee. Cleveland's favored by five and a half. Probably the largest favorite they've been on opening day for a long time. And I have them winning by more than five and a half. Jake: I want them to come out and shoot their proverbial load. Yeah, just go nuts. Go nuts. Justin: Seriously, just... Go fucking ape shit on this one. Jake: I'll take the baby browns. Justin: All right. Moving right along. I'm just saving my pics here. My. Minnesota. No, I had it right. I it was an M.I. Minnesota is hosting Atlanta. Minnesota is favored by four. I like them. Jake: I've got Minnesota.
01 Jake: I'll take Minnesota at home. I don't know. I don't know what Atlanta is. There's a weird team. I just don't know them yet. It's only four Justin: All right, Philly is hosting Washington Philly host Home nine and a half. Oh, I think that that just reflects Washington's quarterback situation. Have they announced whether it's gonna be the rookie or Jake: Whether it's gonna be like Case Kingdom? They have to at this point, right? Justin: I just don't know like who's starting for Washington. Well, I can't even go to like their page and just figure it out. It's weird. Super strange, but... I guess it's Haskins. It should be Haskins. I guess. Anyway, I got a feeling. Because nine and a half, I'm not worried about nine and a half at home. Washington doesn't have much anywhere. Jake: So you know, I don't like the big spreads. I'm going to take Washington. I'm not scared of no spread. Justin: Okay, we have the Rams. Flying across the country to Carolina to play at one o'clock. They're still favored by three and I still like them Jake: Yeah, I feel like this is gonna be this is gonna be This is a lot they need to get a taste out of their mouth from the Super Bowl and I can see them Just open up a big-ass can of whoop ass like literally. Yeah 30 to like 15 watch out because Aaron darn Aaron Donald is going to Be in cams like kind of hurt like or to kind of her. I don't like that. That's not a good way That's not a good look not a great Like opener you don't want to open against the Rams not when they just lost a suitable and by just really never Justin: And here's another one. You don't want to open against Kansas City's going to Jacksonville You don't want to see them week one. Kansas City favored by three and a half. Give me Kansas City all day. 50 to 20. Yeah, because Nick Foles can't play if he's not wearing an Eagles uniform. That's what I've heard. That's what we've heard. All right. All right. Casey, let's move on to four o'clock. Jake: We have the Chargers. How many four o'clock? One, two, three, four, five. Oh, man, I mean, we got to get home. Justin: Five and three of them are. big national ones, one of which is a New York one. All right. So the Chargers are hosting the Colts ship. We didn't even talk about Andrew Luck at all. We did. Jake: I mentioned it. I said, Hey, no, but Hey, what do you want to say? I've heard a lot. I've listened to a lot. A lot of people go one way or the other. I think he did what he did for himself and that's great. Think the organization is gonna suffer for years. Yes, the organization certainly will suffer And it just makes me think of like let's make Sam is keep him protected the only thing again prediction for next draft I don't care. It just has to be an offensive line in the first round must be enough. I don't care That's it. Okay what we pick. All right, let's do this
00 Justin: Chargers are favored by six and a half and I can't see why they wouldn't really win this game by a lot I mean, how bad were the colds the year before last? Jake: Yeah, no, they're gonna be bad. Kobe Brissette brisket brisket. It's not gonna happen. Sorry. All right. Justin: Seattle is favored by nine and a half over Cincinnati at home. I know that's big, but Cincinnati is. Supposed to be one of the worst teams in the whole league. Jake: Oh, the Dolphins. Justin: Like those are the bottom dwellers. Jake: They're the bottom dwellers. We can talk about the Houston trade, clowning to the Seahawks. Justin: Seahawks are gonna be pretty decent I think. They're gonna surprise people. You don't have much on offense, but they never really do. And Russell Wilson just kind of makes it happen. All they need is Wilson and a running back. Yeah, he just kind of makes it happen. So I'm gonna take Seattle. It's a tough place to play. I agree. All right. Dallas is opening at home against New York Giants for 25. No word on Zeke yet. And this line is at seven. The rumors are he's like on a plane headed back to Dallas. And this line might jump to eight or nine. I'm going to take New York because these teams play close games. And I don't know. I don't I don't see a reason why Dallas without Zeke should be a touchdown favorite. Jake: I just I don't know. I don't know. I don't think so. I would take Dallas. I'll take Dallas. I'll take Dallas. Justin: Detroit is going to Arizona. Jake: Detroit is the hardest week to pick because you don't know nothing. Justin: You only you only can really go off last year. Right. I'm about to do it and say Detroit was so. awful last year. Why are they favored on the road to open the season? I guess it's because Kyler Murray is gonna be playing. I assume I'll take them. I'll take the Jake: rookie magic at home to scope in the game. Sure. Just whatever. Just wing it. Okay. Justin: This game is a pick right now. Tampa is hosting San Francisco at 425. I like Jimmy G coming back. I like San Francisco. I don't know about this Tampa all this hullabaloo about the coach being able to reach Jamis Winston and fuck that this guy sucks. I mean Jake: Jimmy G was really bad in the put in this in the preseason like there's One Pusty yeah, good game though Justin: His second game like he came back and played. I'm not a Jimmy G believer. I'm just putting out there Jimmy G believer That is the difference between us. I actually think he's good No, and I was I I was happy to see him go From New England cuz I sure he was gonna be the next guy. Well, they had a guy. Give me Tampa Bay Okay New Orleans is hosting Houston's I was a good save Jake: Monday night Early so we have two Mondays do you like a double double Monday? I like early Monday. I love me a double Monday
03 Jake: I love an early Monday. Let me a double touch my bed Justin: All right, so we got all I'm gonna watch both of these it's you should funny enough the second games usually Oakland New Orleans Favored by seven at home against Houston. It's a tough game. I Think they do end up winning by 10 though like late Really? Yeah, like they might be up seven and then kick up field goal at like two minutes left or something and go up two scorers, like one of those type of things. Jake: It is because it is because I'm going to take Houston. Justin: And then last is a pick. Um, Oakland hosting Denver. Jake: I'll pick Oakland. Why the fuck not? Well, because I know nothing about that. I don't even know who their quarterback is. Is it is it it's a flacko? Yes, flacko. Then I definitely have Oakland. I'm taking Oakland. I'm just going to take Oakland for the like. It's going to be a little bit of this. They're coming off hard knocks, the hard enough bump, which lasts for two weeks and then they'll tank. Yeah, then no one cares. All right. Let's get to our good stuff. Now let's get to the actual. Oh, see, times are running. Here we go. Alright, ready? I'm ready. Justin: So, we got three games. Three games. Baltimore at Miami is at one o'clock. The spread, Baltimore is favored on the road by seven. So that's how bad Vegas thinks Miami is. Jake: Their home opener. So what is Miami at this point? Who is Miami? So Miami... They just... Justin: They're rebuilding from literally nowhere. So they're tanking for Tua? They're totally, totally tanking, and I'm not sure if Tua's gonna be the guy or not. I mean, I've seen him play in college. I don't think he has a good arm. Okay. In my own personal opinion. I like the guy who plays for Georgia. That's my guy. Okay. I think his last name's From. That guy's gonna be good. Anyway. Miami's nothing. I mean they have a brand new coach so he has a complete blank slate doesn't need to worry about this He's a defensive coach from the Patriots Jake: Winner gets his pass, right? They just gave up tonsils. Yes and skills stills. Yes. Okay stills. Yes Traded away for that for draft picks. Yes. They also traded away someone else earlier Justin: They have to basically they have like I think for the next two years, or next year, they have like two seconds, two thirds, and like a hundred million in cap space. So that's what the Dolphins are, their next year. Great. This year is a total tank season. You know they're tanking because they've got Ryan Fitzpatrick there. Well, he's done that to us. Keeping a young quarterback on the bench because they're starting Fitzpatrick. Yep, well that's good. So that's how good Josh Rosen is, by the way. Jake: picked last year number one first round yep like a top 7 12 pick no he was top
02 Jake: 10 they're all top 10 so the top 10 picked I think you might have went 10th the AFC East is full of three top 10 picks and his team that had him for one year decided we're gonna draft another one yep you're going back Justin: And they trade him off to Miami for a second. And he loses in the preseason to Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is now by the way, a couple years older than the version that we know. Oh, yeah. And he was already a little old when we had him. Yep. So it can't be that good. We know he sucks. He's never made the playoffs as a starter. So you're clearly not trying to do one quarter. He had to not Suck and he could have made the playoffs clearly. You're not trying to do much fear the dolphins here this year No, you've made it very clear Jake: No Justin: And your quarterback but you hate or may not be on the roster you have to play the guy you have to play what you think Jake: Is the best team like what they should do again if you're truly tanking should be playing rosen Justin: You of course play Rosen. Unless they're truly tanking and they're playing fits. No. To truly tank. You gotta play Rosen, right? The fans that I would think would want to see Rosen. I want to see Rosen as a fan. As a fan of football. I don't necessarily care to see him one way or the other. I do. I'll see him. Well, I want to see him when we play him. I want to see if he's good and I want to see if he sucks. I want to see him. I know he sucks and I want to play him. I just once. Jake: Well, that's true. Justin: I don't want to play Fitz. Jake: Well, with no offensive line, they're going to get hurt. Fitz, we'll see him because we'll knock out Fitz. That's the one thing Fitz was sort of good at was like he could sort of move a couple of years ago. Baltimore, 31, dolphins, 12. Justin: You know what? He's surprisingly like feisty. Yeah, it's gonna go down to the game. I'm gonna go Baltimore 27, Miami 24 It's gonna be a lot closer than you think cuz he's is you're surprised. He's doing a college team. Yeah This is a prime time game this is a Sunday nighter so this is the prime time game yes Jake: This should be the game of the week. Justin: It is the Sunday night, eight o'clock, eight 30, whatever. Eight 20 ish. Primetime matchup. All your stuff's done from Sunday. You've got this one game on and it's the Patriots and it's the Steelers. And that's fantastic. It's a little weird. Yeah, a little different of a year. Yeah. Started up again. But who knows how many more times we're going to see Big Ben versus. Tom Brady. New England is favored by five and a half over Pittsburgh. Historically, Jake: New England has had Pittsburgh's number. They beat them all the time, right? Like, almost all the time. And that's when they had the Bs. Yeah. But I think that there's Justin: a lot of scoring. I think ultimately Pittsburgh...
00 Justin: Covers? Oh wow. That was close. I've got it 35-31. What do you got? New England. I have it 34-31 New England. Jake: Wow. So we're both picking a pit there to cover. To cover but not win. Cover but not win. Justin: And by the way, that's what we should be rooting for. We should be, as Jets fans, rooting for the... Patriots as weird as that sounds. Just blow out the AFCs. Just blow out the rest of the AFC. Right. You're gonna win the AFC East. We know that. Just do it. Listen, we're truly, Jake: truly just fanny blake. We should take the AFCs. Why not? Who's stopping us? Why can't we take them? But we can stop them. But the Patriots. Okay. But then the Patriots. All right. All right. No Gronk. That's a lot. Do you know what really sucks about this podcast? What? Justin: We've been doing it forever and the whole fucking time the Patriots have been this Patriots not the shit Patriots Jake: Yeah, but we've also been there and beat them in the playoffs on the road. We've never been able to be like Justin: and not the Patriots Go the Patriots. We will keep we say it all the time the dolphins suck right? Right and the Patriots they suck now They will eventually just keep waiting. There won't even be podcasts anymore. There'll be like the next thing. Jake: Whatever that is. All right. Podcasts forever. Justin: So game of the century. Jake: Millennium. Justin: Good. The game of opening day. Here it is. It's a one o'clock start. The New York Jets are hosting the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. The Jets are favored by a standard three, which. Leads me to believe that people think we're about even yep, I disagree totally disagree Jake: I think we're gonna put up where the keys the castle beat these mofos West in four minutes sure Justin: quick Bill's cut the Shawn McCoy the other day. Yeah, the big news Here is the key to the castle. I'll give you the one key. Don't let Josh Allen run Just don't let him run. Not gonna beat you by throwing. Don't think they can run the ball on us anyway. Nope. So whenever he drops back to pass, just treat him like Big Ben, keep him in there, don't let him out, and just surround him, make him throw. He can't really accurately hit anybody. Jake: 53 yards. If he runs for more than 53 yards, we're gonna lose this game. Justin: It might be more than that because I think he does that by just runs. He's a good runner and he's big and he's athletic and he's hard to tackle. A lot like Mitch Trubisky in that way, but. I don't think he can throw. No, he's got no touch. Make him throw. Jake: We've seen this. We watched him throw and his throws are like, you know, like. Justin: He doesn't have much to throw to. I think we're gonna throw up some points. I think the Bills defense probably better than we think. They probably are. But I think their quarterback's gonna put them in bad spots at times. Like there are gonna be some turnover situations going on. Yep. So I'll give us a victory.
01 Justin: I'm gonna give us a victory at 27-17. Jake: I'm changing mine. Because I'm going to say it's 30 to 17, but we're going to miss an extra point. So it's be 29, 17 and we're going to have to fire this guy again. Vidbic. We're going to spend all season just firing and getting new kickers in. Justin: Hey, listen, last year Meyers was not on the roster. It's true. And then he was and he was a pro baller. So like that's what happens with kickers sometimes. Jake: Yeah, again, it's tough because you just look at these teams like, are these the teams from last year or are these the teams from this year? It takes two weeks at least even know, because after two weeks, you know, there's like, they're always claiming this team is this, this team is this, and then of course, you know, at the end of the season, you're like, oh yeah, that team hasn't want to game since. I don't know. I think this is a beatable team. We're at home. I love having two home openers. I hope we're a little bit not doing the, we probably shouldn't and wouldn't because it's the bills and our division, but doing the little bit more of like looking at the Browns, like kind of like, Ooh, we can't wait for that game. Yeah. Don't do that. I think they're going to be pumped up. I think this is going to be incredible offense. I think it's going to be Justin: great. Come on crowd. Let's be there. We're there. We're going to be there. It's going to be Jake: loud and and Lots of fun. So I think it'll be a good old fashioned beating. I think we can beat them without I just don't think I'm just not Josh Allen's not scoring 30 points. So we just have to score 30 and I think we'll keep him in check. Couple turnovers. Jets win 29-17 first of all and second of all and third of all. Let's go Jets. All right, we'll be back. Rain or shine, win or loss, that's not true. We'll be back anyway, it doesn't matter. It's Justin, Jason, saying, or Jake, whatever my name is, let's go Jets.
