00:20 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. The longest running New York Jets podcast. Period! My name is Jake, join me 305 times in a row. The oldest man, not even in this room. Justin, Justin, happy birthday! Thanks. And nice that you're coughing and we'll play some real quick craps. Good job. Justin: Sound awful. Good job. Yeah, I mean, I'm wearing a Yankee hat, you see? That was a big deal last night. It says a lot when you stop wearing a Jets hat, actually. Well, I wear my Jets hat to like, Jet Games. But when the Yankees are in the playoffs, you wear your Yankee hat. This is playoff. This is playoff time. I didn't even know. Playoffs. I literally didn't even know. I don't care about that. I don't care about that at all. Yankees Red Sox. Friday. Be there. Not going to be there. Big time. Won't even care. Big time. What game is it? Game one. ALDS. Call me when it's game six. I'll text you. I'm not gonna call you. I'll text you. Okay. Do they play on Sunday? If they're playing Friday, they probably do play Sunday night, I imagine. Good. No one will be at the game. They'll be in Boston and the Patriots play tonight. I don't think they'll care. Okay Jake: Well, we have a big agenda today. We did a little skipper Rooney last week. Just letting you know Justin: Yeah, it had nothing to do with the game. Yeah, really some reviewed somewhere. I don't know somewhere. Yeah some jackass like bad cast podcast regularly enough and they'd whatever okay it wasn't even regular that wasn't even was there another one I don't know is there a second bad review there was some fuck you if you're gonna leave a review leave a good one otherwise stop fucking listening this podcast like stop downloading stop listen oh no no no no the fuck yeah keep downloading downloading stop listening no like don't even press play don't press play and just Go on with your life. Jake: Let me just remind everybody. Justin: Yeah, we do this from the love of our heart. For literally. For 11 years. 11 years. We've been podcasting. So suck it. Duck butter on your face. Jake: Okay, then. All right, so speaking of tuck butter, we've got a couple games to talk about. So we'll go through that. We'll talk about the JKFL. We've got some. Bad things happening there. Hahaha, there's some serious loser shit going on there. We'll talk about the pick'em, then we'll get in, we'll make our AFC East throne picks. Sorry, we'll pick all the weeks, we'll pick the throne picks, and I'll pick the keys to the castle, and beating the buck out of the Broncos.
03:03 Jake: See what I did there? I PG'd it, but you've already done duck butter seven times, so... Justin: Yeah, it's not a PG podcast. Thanks for that. This is this requires parental guidance. It does. All right, let's move on I guess if you're 13 though Jake: Maybe let's start. Let's start from the beginning Where it should all things should start so we gotta go back like two weeks today. Yeah. Yeah two weeks ago today And talk about pretty much one of the worst losses. I mean, I'd say top 10 worst losses I've ever witnessed. Disagree. Uh, okay. What was... Give me three. Justin: Give you three worst losses? I mean, I could rattle one off the top of my head. Three AC Championships would be those three. Those were pretty brutal. Top three. Uh, that... That drubbing by the Patriots on a Thursday night was... Pretty darn brutal that but fumble. Oh Patriots lot Patriots stuff involved in our Jake: Three Four years ago. Yeah, they beat, the I Justin: a couple years back, but I don't think Oh, somebody was gonna lose to this Browns team and of course it was the Jets, but here's the deal silver lining silver lining Well, we were totally ready for that game on a short week. We're totally ready. We had to rod Taylor wrapped up nowhere to go and We pulled a Bledsoe Brady situation, which the Jets are known to do I just you know, just pulled one out of my ass have done and or I was at that game You know, I mean this was gonna happen anyway where Baker was gonna take over at some point, but I don't think he was Terrod Taylor had to throw at us and we were very well prepared. There was no running. There was nothing he couldn't complete shit I guess and it's that change and that energy change That's right And it just happened and we just were not ready for that we prepared on a very short week for a very specific Quarterback that plays in a very specific way and we just could not flip gears and adjust on the fly, which is the annoying part. And that seems to be a theme here. Adjusting on the fly is not our strong part. Jake: It's called what every good coaching staff does. I'm going to call it staff. Coaching staff does. It's called in-game adjustments. There's usually the adjustments at half.
06:07 Justin: No, no, no, no. pressure him in different ways is. And then you have a rookie who's never played before. Like never. And you can't even come up with some exotic shit to throw at him. It does. It does upset me because one of the things we used to love about Rex. Jake: Oh, rookies never beat Rex. Right. Rookies didn't beat Rex. And there was something nice about that feeling of like, yeah. And it's almost you know, who else? Brooks generally don't beat Belichick either. Justin: Bad quarterbacks, bad quarterbacks. Bad quarterbacks, bad quarterbacks. Us When Rex was the coach because bad quarterback play he was like I'm all over that shit to me Jake: This is this is and I know it's like, you know, the writing's on the wall But we're getting there where I'm just not And we all we can talk about the offense going to the offense for the last two weeks. Yeah, it's just like this ho hum I mean, it's like they will say he's ready. He can make all the throws. He's so smart He's got all these things, but then this is vanilla fucking offense And then you watch other games you watch with other rookies or second year guys because again a guy who started one game last., year Justin: Sorry, you're pretty much a rookie. Yeah, although he's happier to sit there and like watch and is in like a legit system That but why are we not in a legit system? I have no clue Why are we not feeling we need to follow the Eagles and we need to follow the Rams and we need to follow the Bears? Follow this model get an offensive minded Aggressive head coach in there who cares about scoring points. Yep scoring more points than the other team as opposed to preventing the other team from scoring more points than you And it's like a total mindset shift. Look how good golf looks all of a sudden I mean that guy looked like garbage on a plate his repair and we get to see him, you know during the whole Oh that all or nothing. You look like a fool like a buffoon like By all accounts, our guy's ahead of where he was, and that was the number one overall pick, but now he's in year three, and look at him, he's light and league on fire. Why? Because he's got an offensive genius sitting there. Coaching them. They don't grow on trees. Well, it's part of a system. You pick a system, and then pick a guy that's really freaking good at it and knows it. So, yeah, part of it's personality. Part of it's also the Rams invested lot on defense because they're in the window. We've talked about the window. We're at the very, very beginning of the window. The windows cracked right now. It's cracked open and we're not going to squeeze through it. But by year three of Sam Darnold era and all this money to spend, like go get the weapons and
09:00 Justin: seriously improve the talent on the defensive side of the ball. like Man, look at what Kaleel Mac is doing for the Bears. Shit. I mean, the Bears are coached by an offensive minded coach, and he's making Mitch Trubisky look like a decent quarterback in his second year. Yup. Threw for six touchdowns for Christ's sake last last week And it's all about he's running the same system that the Eagles run, the same system that Kansas City runs. It's all that Andy Reid stuff. So pick a system that works in the NFL these days, grab an offensive coordinator off of one of those teams, make them your head coach, and then go get a real defensive coordinator like the Rams did with, what's his face, Wade Phillips. And what did they do they invested heavily on the defense they said yeah, we got Aaron Donald. He's a stud great We're gonna go grab namikin sue for a year cuz that'll just work out. We're gonna go grab some new corners Let's we're gonna trade away a couple guys that just don't fit the system right and man. Let's look at that. So Jake: Like you have the rookie quarterback, you have someone like Mac on the prayers, you have Justin Houston on on Kansas City, and you have a whole bunch of dominators on Rams. Anyway, interesting. All right, so why don't you give me your... I mean, my thoughts of the game. I actually have not rewatched it. I wanted to rewatch it yesterday. I didn't get a chance. I was going to watch both the trash fire games. It just it's very disappointing to see a team go up by 14 points and look like they're just gonna dominate and Justin: I didn't think the Browns were gonna score if they kept around Taylor in the game I didn't even know if they would have gotten past the 50 like they were so out of whack We needed one more score and that game was over pretty much. It was pretty much over if we got one more score, but I mean, Baker came in and showed why he was the first overall pick. He has some talent. They dropped 40 last week. And lost? They lost, but he still put up 40. You can't throw that on him. Can't throw that on the offense. Jake: But you're seeing the teams out there. The game has changed. Everybody's talking about this. It's all offense. It's all scoring. It's 40 to 42. It's... 35 to 38 defense can barely even touch a guy without really bad teams like putting up zeros yeah like they shut out like bill last week watching the um watching the the scores at one point with halftime and all four afc teams were playing one two were playing each other as teams were playing but Three of the four AFC East teams at halftime has scored zero points wonder which one didn't have zero points All the one who was beating the other team that had zero points. You mean the second place Patriots? Yeah Justin: Now back in second shit, which I was in New Jersey last week
12:00 Justin: So I could have thrown some Patriots when the AFC is money game Which one well first game we're gonna go now the second game. All right Um shit, I can't remember. Um, I feel like Robbie Anderson fucked us in that game didn't he? Didn't he fumble? Yeah, like a very like big kind of yep It's kind of like I'm a very big momentum changer that we had six receptions and two fumbles Yeah, that dude needs to lift some weights Eat some cheeseburgers. I just don't want him on the team. I just he's not he's not the guy Jake: I don't like look at this team like in two years and think oh, there's Anderson is just doing great. No, I don't even want him on the team. Honestly, I know he's part of that. Justin: He's part of that three that three receiver set. It's him and it's a new law and it's curse and priors number four at the moment. And I think that's kind of just the way it's going to be. Just gonna have to deal with it. And when they go to two receiver sets, it's a Nunua and Curse. It's not even like Robbie's sort of the third option and he should be. All he does is all he can actually literally do is run straight. And Darnold overthrew him. That's what that was. Well, that's the next game. That's the next game. This dude. And you watch that play and they played it back. Jake: He let up a little bit. He didn't just go as fast as he can and he was off by. you know, whatever, a foot. But you see so many players just do that. Is that... Justin: If you're the fastest dude, you should not be overthrown. No. Like, I guarantee you as good an arm as Mahomes has, you can't overthrow Tree Kill. You should go as fast as you can because you can always come back. Yeah, and get an interference penalty. Jake: But you can't go faster. So like, go as fast as you can, turn your head around. If it's coming back, you've seen all the time. Great receivers. Stop. They come back. The corner goes right by them. Justin: DB flies by him or runs right into him, and either way you've got pissy yards. Jake: You've got to run as fast. If you watch that play, just piss me off, because I saw him run, he's sprinting, and then he kind of slows, and then he sprints again. And you're like, no, don't do that. It wasn't a move. It was just like he kind of slowed up a little bit. Anyway, fool the game. For me, actually it's... I know you don't hate it when I do it, but defensively, it doesn't make any sense to go into halftime and come out and not be able to rally the troops and get them back on and say, and be prepared for that. This is supposed to be this defensive team and I'm not seeing it. Where are we seeing this big defense? Like we're letting teams come back into stuff. So I'm giving it to Casey Rogers. Sorry, dude, you gave it to Casey doesn't Casey doesn't get enough flak. No, he doesn't He's kind of hidden behind the head coach But Casey's writers been our defensive coordinator for the last four years is this fourth year? Let's look at their stats. Have we ever been a top 10 defense? I don't think so under bowls I don't know well, but he's a defensive coordinator who care. I mean bowls is Bulls isn't creating the top 10 defense like if you have Wade Phillips you have a top 10 defense
15:01 Jake: You then give the credit to Wade Phillips. You're like, oh Wade Phillips is a defensive coordinator. That's why they're so good, right? Justin: Terrible offensive head coach though, right? So that's the that's like the rub right? You've got defensive head coach where you know, they're running his defense Right? I'm like just how much I know this is I know we're just out there Jake: We're so out there How much would you just love to pull a young young genie out of the bottle for next year somebody Some Offensive Justin: You know all it's really studying Please say what I hope you're gonna say And then and then fucking hire Rex back Yes! To the defensive coordinator That's exactly what I was hoping you were gonna say Wouldn't that just be Yeah, I would but I think Rex has it out for the Jets. He doesn't like us, I don't think so. I do, when I see him talk on that ESPN show, he generally, like he's made some statements around like, you know, Josh Allen being the best of all, you know, cause he's the Bills. Rookie quarterback and it's like alright dude chill out. Alright, so let's go the next guy's clearly not the best of anything No, let's go the next game Although they did go and beat the Jesus out of the yeah, then they get shut out the next week So next week was I mean worse Jags I mean, you know man, you're probably playing the second best team in the AFC maybe the third They're up there. I mean, this is my Kansas City Jags. Jake: And this is my pick for the Super Bowl. I think I don't know. Don't we write that stuff down? I do write this one down. You know, I what I here's here's my issue with this game. OK, so it's my Jags, by the way, your Jags. I was just a little early on my Jags. One year. You just pick every team. You can just say my team. I was one year early on my Jags. Justin: They were terrible a year there. You saw it there. Yeah, but then last year they made it to the UFC championship. And this year they're pretty darn good. They are good. So they've now beat the Patriots. Yep. Jake: Well, the Jets, not a big hoopla. No, they're they're looking good. They sitting in three and one. They do. Here's my here's the problem again. We can talk about the game. It was basically. It just there wasn't a chance like sure, you know, we could have gotten back into it But when you don't score for the first half and they put up 16 going to have a hard to come back from that Justin: Against that defense. Yeah, they're gonna shut you down. I mean we played we played fairly well with them until Basically until like the end of the second quarter. We just ran out of gas. Yeah, and then we gave up some quick points Jake: And it's just showing that this, you know, as much as we it's kind of that little head fake with that first game where everything just clicked and just quick, quick, quick and short fields and tons of turnovers and it's just wow, we're putting up all those points. But you look at the last three games. Points are not flying our way. No, we're not really. We're not really scoring this offense. isn't really clicking like sure if you get dropped off even this one how'd we score oh we're dropped Justin: off you know close to the to the end to not good there thing we can't drive the ball we didn't even have the ball in the first half basically yeah like we barely had the ball that's not fair to
18:04 Justin: the offense i mean it's the offense's fault but it's not fair to the defense you just end up getting like look at the time and position. They had the ball for 37 and a half minutes to our 22 and a half minutes. That's incredibly difficult and I don't understand how the hell I think we were plus three in turnovers and we got our ass kicked. Yeah. How the fuck? That's almost. That's almost impossible. It's kind of really hard. Like you have to try to lose for that to happen. Are we trying to lose? Yeah, like what are we doing and why are we throwing for like two yards at a clip? Right, well you did call it once, you're like here's a shot, we should take a shot Jake: down the field and we did and we just didn't get it. There was a lot of like... Thank you. Again, it's sort of like having extraordinary talent and just having above average talent. The difference between having those balls that, you know, Sam threw it down, he hit a guy's hands and they just wouldn't catch it. And you watch other teams and it's not really luck, it's just they're better. It's the difference of a, you know, we talked about it's the difference of having a bunch of guys on your team that are kind of cast off so you don't really have it. Do we have a top five? Well, when we where we grabbed grab a new one, is it in fourth round? Justin: Fourth or sixth? Jake: Right. So do we have a top first four rounds receiver on our team besides Stewart, who's now who? Where's the guard? Justin: We've got rid of all of them. Yeah. No, no. Even though like for receiver, that's not always necessarily like a thing, but the best receiver in the league. And when did he get picked? Antonio Brown sixth round. Go on. Okay, next Hopkins. First round Hopkins is good. Odell Beckham, really good. Julio Jones, really good. AJ Green, really good. Like, yeah, these guys are good. Jake: Yeah, I don't know. It's just. It's kind of getting my my my thing with it. And and I guess the other thing that I was upset about this game, though, you move off. This role, but. I think the first you made good points that Cleveland game not being you know we had The whole many you know having almost no time to prepare for a team so for those first three games Okay, we had two weeks to prepare for the Lions came out looked great Then we had almost no time to prepare or had well a quick turnaround one week sure week to prepare and you know Didn't didn't didn't look great against Miami. No look at me at almost no time against Cleveland looked fine from a from a Justin: From a defense to start okay very very nice I feel like we would have beaten them 17 to 7 if terrod taylor would have played the whole game Jake: I feel like we've more and I keep saying this I feel good more wrinkles and more more things to sort of change it up And we want we're watching the the the Baltimore Ravens who you like they're not very good who are now three and one I think three and one I think they're three
21:04 Jake: And one yeah, they're right and you're like they're not good. I'm like yeah, they're good, but even them They're like changing it up. They've got this dynamic trying different things I just look at our offense there's no movement it's very rare to move and where's the game planning where's the where's the interesting offense back here Justin: you know where it all boils down to and bowls down to where it all boils down bowels down to we have a really shitty offensive line we do And that's a problem, but it's not because you can get away with not having I mean listen When was the last time tom brady had? a first round receiver I mean he doesn't Generally speaking he doesn't neither does arin rogers Jake: Like they just don't yeah, that's true, right? They don't no. No, no, no, they adam's is was are you sure? Justin: He was a first round pick you just Think of him as a high round fantasy pick because he's a good fantasy wide receiver. Are you certain he was like a first round draft pick? Seems like an odd pick for them. But our line is so bad. And they're trying to learn a new scheme. And they're just not like our left tackle is Probably one of the worst in the league. Perhaps that's a starter not a backup. Up the middle, I mean, you watch some of these plays, the replays, where Sam's getting like sacked and it's like, well, if you guys would just, you know, block, do your job, it would be a bad... I mean, he'd been sacked, uh, 10 times in four games. That's not great. And I don't think he's a hold on to the ball. Yeah, he... Generally does it when he gets acted he's like he's like it's a bus through he is on the bottom bottom third of the league In terms of holding on he does he holds on to all yeah Um, but that could be a plethora of things like guys not open You know, whatever it is the thing that i'm a little worried about Jake: Is that with all those there should be this number that you're kind of looking at again. I'm not looking at you know, touchdown to intonation, interception ratio. We know interceptions can come and go crazy. But that completion percentage has just been on this downward spiral for him. It's not good. He's kind of regressing. I'm now looking forward to his, he's going to regress for Justin: a while. I think that's what I'm going to struggle and struggle and struggle. And eventually it'll click, you know, again, this is your three of golf. I'm sure if you looked at Wens who started as a rookie, he probably didn't play so hot for half of those first 10 games. I think he actually came out firing. I don't think so. They didn't make the playoffs. So it's not like they like won a ton of games. Jake: I think they I think they started if I my memory is good, which isn't. I think they started hot and then then it slipped like he started like five and oh, I think they know that is completely false
24:03 Jake: I think they did. No way. I think they did Justin: I'm pretty sure they did. No, okay. I look that up while I talk. Yeah, you talk. I'll just what's your Jake: I'm going to be on a guy and that guy just not be part of the game. Justin: But should Dante Moncrief be beating him for a 67 yard touchdown down the sideline thrown by Blake Bortles? I mean that is not Aaron Rodgers to Devontae Adams, that is not Matt Ryan to Julio Jones, that is Blake Bortles to Dante Moncrief. Come on man. and like are any can't get hurt worried about him you know that a lot more than yeah screen can also and sit on the bench for a career as far as I'm concerned Is that a a long career to be had? I I think I think this is the last year Buster screen. I believe. The Eagles went Jake: Whatever that number is at the top. Justin: I'm. I'll take that. Jake: Well, I think that's where we're. Justin: Probably headed Let's go three and 13 and get a fucking edge rusher out of this shit. All right, so let's let's go back in the way back machine Okay, that's the game that was are we picking fools in this one because I don't really have a fool. This was a for every goddamn thing. But I, I don't know. just that long one that he just didn't this was a complete complete team loss will yeah everybody played like shit nobody played good I couldn't anybody who played you know there was the what do you think what
27:00 Justin: the the punter he was fine no the issue of the of them going for it when they sequence. and then going for two. Alright, let's get to the oh shoot we're gonna talk fantasy Yeah, so these two jackasses your two hosts that you love You and I I'm talking to you. Oh, hey, are you talking to me? No, I don't talking about you I mean, I do. Well, you do love you more than I love more than most people. Uh, Yeah, so you and some other jackass in week three played some Browns. Yeah. Good job by you. Right. So you would think as I did that and showed it to you and you're like, Oh my God, you're such an idiot. Then you would think someone would learn from that. This jackass played a jag last week. So those are three losses that will have to be reconciled by the commissioner. Yeah. I got to get in there and make some awesome habits. And go in and make some manual win-loss switchers. So apologies to those that First of all, if you don't know the rules, they're very simple. You have to play a jet and you can't play a player against the jets in that week. So last week I played Keaton Cole, who is a wide receiver on the Jags, who did nothing. Didn't help in any way. But still, I have to take a loss because I played him. I don't know who you played. I played in the Browns game, in Joku or something. Oh, hide Carlos hide. So you take a loss and whoever that other person was, they take a loss. Yeah, they're playing you. I had to move. I had to move out. So I basically I basically had one person who was playing me who I got a win from. Right. And I gave it back this past week. I have both Lindsay and Freeman on my team. So I'm kind of you can't play any of those guys. Yeah, I'm hurting for certain. Oh, we could trade. Jake: I'll be watching aid Miller and hide this week on trade. No, I've got good s and I've got and the running backs. I just can't this week. Okay. Okay. All right, who am I up against this week? I'm up against so Marshall flaw. I don't pay attention Justin: Krista Sousa, so we're up. We're up. Who am I playing? I don't know. I don't pay attention to yours. Okay me either Alright, very good. I just set the line up on Sunday morning and sometimes you do Playing hey, Donald. Hey, Donald. You're playing Jack Jack. Don't stop Jack. All right, Jack. All right going down this week All right leaves. Let's see unless you leave unless you leave a a Denver right guess receiver in there Jake: No one has one in yet. Alright let's talk pickums. So let's go back a couple weeks back in the Way Back Machine. So week three, the winner of the week was Ginger with eight picks.
30:00 Jake: Ginger. And then last week with eight... It's not a very high number to this guy. It doesn't matter, I won the week. How are we? So now, in the season standings. The top is when to fold, when to darnold with 31. That's the top of the pick-up. 31 after four weeks. We are down in the dregs. You do have 27, I have 26 right behind you. I'm giving you. Justin: And yeah, I threw a quarter of the season. I am ahead. So I am. You enjoy that point. It will be not long. I am victorious. Jake: All right. So let's go. Let's pick the jet. Let's pick let's pick all the games except the AFC East with the spread. See if you can remember not to call those games out. And this is going to be very tricky. Yeah, you could see and then come back and we'll do the AFC East with points and then we'll talk about the keys of the castle and be. Justin: Fuck buck out of the Broncos. Okay, we have four four o'clock games, which is always good Super nice except for when you're at the game. Well, it's nice cuz I get to come back and watch it for you There's a good one to Philly's hosting Minnesota. We'll talk about that is your game. That's a good one Alright, how are the Monday and Sunday? And I think Monday will be pretty fun. New Orleans hosting Washington, those are two pretty decent teams. This is where fantasy is good because I have fantasy in both of those, so that's kind of fun to watch. That New Orleans Washington game should be fun regardless.. and Which I guess is understandable. Although they could be 4-0. They're 1, 2, and 1, and they should be 4-0. Like that's a team that really does need to fire the coach, because it's so clear. They have so much talent on that team. Yeah, I'm gonna pick the crappy Ravens to beat the crappy Jake: Browns. I like it being close. I think this- this is a close game, so I'm gonna keep it close and say Cleveland... They'll cover. Justin: At least. Detroit's hosting Green Bay and it's a pick. I don't know why. I don't get that. It's a straight up pick. What did Detroit show? They won one game? I mean, what the fuck? They're very good with that one game. Alright. Well, I got Green Bay. I'm gonna take Detroit. Jake: I'm a little worried about Rogers. Justin: Yeah. A little worried about him. He's playing, so whatever. Jake: Yeah, he's not playing. Justin: He's playing hurt, though. I don't know. I'm picking Detroit. right. Here's like the game of the week this should be I wish we could just start flexing shit into Sunday night because Kansas City's hosting Jacksonville and that is gonna be awesome a game And that's at 1 o'clock which sucks. So
33:02 Justin: Kansas City home standard three points Like the Jags on the road The defense will travel and travels their defense is pretty good. Look out my homes. You haven't seen anything like this before Jake: I saw him play last week. So I was interested to put he played on Sunday night Justin: They played Sunday night Jake: Monday night Monday night. Yeah Monday night. I should watch cuz I hadn't really sat down and watched him specifically and it's go up against Denver. Denver has a pretty good D, so I was like, you know, they've got great pass rushers. I'm like, okay, let me watch. And they kind of kept him out of the game for the beginning and they didn't like let him score seven touchdowns. So I feel like Jacksonville is just going to watch the tape and go, okay, we're going to do that now. It's flipped. It's over in their stadium. You know, you can just see Bortles having a bad Bortles game, Justin: but I'm going to pick Jacksonville. And Fornette is nowhere to be found, so. That running game is hampered by that. Yeah a little bit. All right uh Pittsburgh who's kind of reeling against Atlanta who's also reeling. I think these are two one-win teams. Crazy. I think Pittsburgh's like one two and one and I think Atlanta's one and three. I believe uh it's in Pittsburgh but... Think there's just some bad Juju around Pittsburgh no pun intended Well pun intended. I guess it was intended. I just think that there's snake bitten a little bit this labium Bell things got them all Sort of in a weird space Big Ben's not playing so well, maybe showing some age Antonio Brown's not getting the ball the way he wants to get the ball and teams are taking him out of the game and without Bell there is another weapon. It's kind of throwing them off. I like Atlanta. I'm more worried about Pittsburgh's defense than anything. I'm picking Atlanta. All right. Carolina, so this is a rarity. The Jets and the Giants are both playing at one. I thought they just didn't do this. Well, they didn't. For a reason. Well, they shouldn't, but they did it. So I guess maybe in New York we'll have four games. Like a true double hunter? I don't know. Maybe, whatever. Carolina is hosting the Giants. Carolina is favored by 7 and the hook. I'll take the hook. I think the Giants lose by 7. Agreed, I'll take the Giants. All right, moving right along four o'clock. We've got the L.A. Chargers versus the Oakland Raiders with the Chargers favored by five and a half. I think the Chargers win by seven, so I'll take them. Yeah, Oakland's not very good. I don't think they're very good. Jake: They got their first win last week. Yeah, weird. That's it. Play. Justin: I think the Chargers not to do any home field advantage for them,
36:01 Justin: but I'll take the Chargers. Yeah, that'll probably be mostly Oakland fans there. I imagine. All right, Philly. hosting Minnesota another like you know if you don't have a you know if you don't care about watching the check game which you probably do because you're listening this podcast but if you don't and you have you know the the direct TV thing you should be watching Kansas City Jacksonville right into this game Philly Minnesota Philly's home favored by three I'll take Minnesota on the road oh way too many picks together so me too I'll take Minnesota all right San Francisco's hosting Arizona. San Francisco's favored by four and a half. That's just too much for a backup quarterback. I know Arizona's also got their troubles and they're kind of playing a sort of backup quarterback but not like he's gonna be the starter Rosen and you'd think you would get better over time. I also think they have some more talent just they're just a more talented team than San Francisco. So I'm gonna take those four and a half points in Arizona and I Actually think they're just gonna win outright. I too I'm taking Arizona. What's this scary? Jake: For this is a record-setting week. There are four rookie quarterbacks starting this week. Didn't that happen last week? I didn't start Justin: Yeah, I don't think Rose and he didn't Alan. No, Donald Baker. They all lost There we go. Oh and four and Jackson got on the field and he plays true I told you he they throw him in there all the time. They do it was fun to watch that just pick Oh, look there is he's on the field. Yeah, that was a Sunday night game, right? Sunday was Pittsburgh Yeah, it's always like a Sunday or Thursday or something. Yeah, it was apparently is a good game came down to the Yeah, yeah. All right. All right. Keep going. Rams. Rams. You saw them in person. Yeah. They're good, right? They're good. They're like really good. Rams at Seattle. Rams. I don't, I don't remember when a team was favored by seven and a half. in Seattle. That's a lot. That's a lot. But Seattle's torn apart, man. I mean, when a guy gets injured, breaks his leg and gets carted off and the other teams patting him on the head as he's getting wheeled off, as he's flipping the bird to his own team's sideline. Not a good look for Seattle. They're not a good look and just not. Classy like I get it. You're angry. I get it all the things. This is why labia and bells doing what he's doing This is it. I mean you you don't want to pay these guys that are great. I Mean I get it. I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna tell you should flip off the team. No. Well, he. He's done with. and.. He's done with that team. He's like fuck you. I'm done with you, right? I'll retire or I'll go somewhere else, but you guys are I'm done with you, right? He didn't get hurt because of them. Like that's the thing. But you got hurt and he didn't have the the the.
39:02 Justin: Sure. That stability of like, oh, I got hurt. I'm still good financially choice takes it to play. Well, he had to play. He's under contract. He could have held out and gotten fined every single week. That's what Bill's doing. Yeah. I think he's making the smart decision. Well that's what I'm saying. He's being selfish. And these teams want you to be a team player but at the same time they're assholes about it. That's right. Alright. Well anyway I got the Rams. I think they're just gonna blow the fuck out of the water. I should switch this because I do have Seattle. Jake: But I'll just leave it because there's too many we picked together. I could totally see. See, I'm just maybe just staying in there. Justin: No fucking way. That team has less talent than we do, except for Russell Wilson. The Rams and the Rams, they are a team that just will just keep putting up. Jake: Yeah. They're like, fuck you. We're going to score. They don't want to, we don't want to win 21 12. They want to score 50. Justin: 20. Yeah. Okay. And they'll score it in the first half. I'm still gonna leave it just so we have a difference. All right. Houston, I've heard of them. Hosting Dallas. Houston favored by three. Rumors out there that Zeke might be a little hurt. Not playing Tiz. And may not even play. Uncertainty. Uh, Houston, I think, takes this one. I don't trust Dak without all those weapons that he had as a rookie, without the line as good as it was when he was a rookie. An injured Zeke, no receivers. I really just didn't- I don't know why Houston has the record. They're like 1 and 3 at this point? I don't think they've won. I think they're 0 and 4. No. Really? Yeah, I mean they lost to the Giants. They lost last week, didn't they? No, the one in three. And the other one in three? The other one in three? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, they're just one of these teams. Remember, he's just, Deshaun Watson's still a rookie, right? He's still, he hasn't played 16 games. He's still a rookie. You've got a rookie quarterback in there, essentially. But you have, you have a good defense. Jake: A lot of defensive talent. You have, I guess, average running back talent. I guess their line is not very good, but you have a wide receiver who's... a game changer wide receiver a total game changer so i just don't know why they're one and three i i could see them just kind of turning it around and and getting back in start winning a few in a Justin: row all right so i'm picking houston all right and then we got monday night we have new orleans new orleans hosting washington uh new orleans favored by seven I think New Orleans defense hasn't really clicked yet and until that happens I can't really pick them laying seven with to a team that is Coming off a bye and has a good offense. So I'm gonna take Washington. Yeah, I feel like Noah at home Jake: They could put up 40 45. Yeah, but I don't give up 40. I don't think yeah, it's true There's that defense where that defense was good last year. Remember, it was the whole thing to know all of a sudden we have a running game in a defense and all of a sudden, well, England's back. Maybe that'll help the defense. I say Norlin blows them out. So I'll pick Nola. Justin: Cool. All right. Let's go to the.
42:00 Justin: No, not go to the AFC East. How do we? Oh, we didn't pick last week. We didn't pick last week, but the week before you went oh and four. I'd like to point that out. Just want to point that out for the you went one in three better than I'm for why went for no Have you ever gone for no? No. Oh, yeah, it looks like we're tied now on the year probably with these picks And these are not against spreads. These are where we'll say the spread we'll give it to you But we're picking these outright what we put down the school. That's what our records are our outright. That's correct All right, so we start off tonight. We're recording this on a Thursday. Thursday. And tonight there's a matchup. It's the classic Colts at New England. I mean, they play like almost every year, I feel like. Because back in the day, they both won the division every year. Yep. And then just sort of back in the day, they used to be in the same division together. Well, yeah. I mean, that was, that was, we got very lucky that they moved the Colts out right as they were drafting Peyton Manning, because that would have been misery. Imagine being in a division with Manning and Brady. Jake: But as a football fan, watching them play twice a year every year for 10 years would have been fun. Justin: Yeah, fine. I mean, I still feel as though we got cheated in in the 2010 2011 postseason where we had to go through Manning and then Brady like that's automatic go to the Super Bowl. Right. Why should we have to now see Ben Roethlisberger? It's not fair. It wasn't fair anyway. I digress. We won two of those three. We did, but couldn't get all the way there. Up it up it makes me it makes me like think you know Sorry to before we get into these picks. I'm just gonna go back to a Jets thing here for a second Well, we have it is a Jets is a Jets podcast You know Rex wasn't a bad head coach He went eight and eight with Geno Smith as a rookie He was he had a four-game suspension. Oh good for him. He's trying to get better. Yeah, but he took these two quarterbacks who generally Should still be starting in the league based on where they were drafted and got their chances and took them to championship That's the interesting about him is that he was never given Jake: Right. He was never given the quarterback Justin: Like he he if you're the he was he was given Marc Sanchez and he sort of blew it Jake: Well, yes, he would blew it or he wasn't that good or he put together the best defense. Whatever it is, but like even when he went to Buffalo, like it wasn't like he had no the quarterback. He had Tyrod for a year. Justin: He was a believer in let's run the ball and let's play some damn good defense
45:00 Justin: and win the game 10-6 if we have to. Jake: Yeah, but looking back, exactly. I mean, obviously we had Parcells as a head coach. And we look back at the coaches, you know, at the coaching tree and their success, if you just want to look at their success. Yeah. You know, Bulls is. Justin: He sniffs the playoffs. Well, under 500, too. Yep. This is Rif, this is Rif, this is Rif, this is Rif. And only got to the playoffs twice. Snake got snake back and his quarterback got hurt a couple of times. Parcels too a little bit with that year that I think we're gonna be great with many and you got hurt and the hurt and the hurt and the hurt and the hurt and the hurt and the hurt and the hurt and the hurt I, a little bit of a Racks was actually a pretty decent coach for us and like you said earlier in this podcast this very one of we were to be able to pick an offensive guru out and be like okay You're going to like run the tone of the team and it's going to be offensive and we're going to be like pedal to the metal and score like 30 points every game. And your scheme is so great and whatever. And Sam and you're going to work it all out. Well, Rex is the perfect defensive coordinator for that team. Who get that defense? All sorts of fired up and. I'd be all for it personally. I don't think he's I don't think he's ready to come back to football But I don't think he's done with football either. He shouldn't be he's too young He if you want and he wants to definitely be a coordinator for sure He needs to come back and do it again do exactly what happens you go up you hit that you hit the top you become the head coach You don't do well, you go back down. I don't think he's a head coach though, that's a thing. Even though he did an okay job with us, I still thought he was like more of a defensive coordinator than I did. Jake: If he went for the third time, I mean that shit show Buffalo, like where he hires his brother, I mean all that was just such a clown. That's the thing is like he thought that those things came across as good, but they didn't. They came across as really stupid. Very dumb. Justin: So I still think his defensive, you know... I don't know if it would work today. It's a different thing. It's a lot of like man to man. I'm going to blitz the fuck out of you and you're not going to be able to run on us. I don't know if that works today, but I also think he was kind of a savant when it came to defense, so anyway, let's move along. Let's move on. Mmm. Um, it appears on paper. I've got, uh, by the way, New England's favored by 10. Um, I have... Jake: Don't think they'll cover the 10. Justin: Yeah, I don't think so either. I've got them 26-21, but I do have the Patriots winning the game. Jake: I think the Patriots win this, but I, you know, there is, there is the luck factor. This guy's back on the field. Justin: You look pretty good. He's moving, he's throwing the ball, like he looks like Andrew Locke. Yes. I don't think he has a whole bunch of weapons and he doesn't have a defense, but... Same old story for Andrew Locke. Sorry dude.
48:00 Jake: I'm gonna go 34-28 New England. Justin: Alright, same gap pretty much. You just have a little more scoring. I know that I know yeah and the Thursday night is notorious for scoring well It's unless the jestor point not the scoring and then it's like it's well It's bad defense is generally what happens there times. They're tired and not ready right all right Tennessee is going to Buffalo Tennessee's actually favored on the road Yeah, Buffalo's not good. I don't think they're good at all. I think that they beat Minnesota because Minnesota was clearly looking ahead to the Rams. Because they played the Rams tough as fuck. Like as good as you're going to play them, right? And... I mean they just got blindsided by the Bills in my opinion, but they're terrible. They just got shut out. I don't think they're very good. I think Tennessee is actually pretty darn talented and I like that coach. I think they have a good coach in Mike Raybal. So I think Tennessee wins, although it's going to be slim and scoring is going to be like... at a premium so 1310 Tennessee. I definitely think Tennessee's gonna win that game. I think it'll, I mean it's not, we don't have snow storms yet so you don't get no buffer advantage. When there's no weather it's not a big deal. But I think I don't think it's gonna be a high scoring game. Crowd, crowd might be there though. I mean just to see the quarterback you know. Of course. That's We're uh, we're sticking rather similar here. All right, Miami's going to Cincinnati. Um, Miami coming off of a pretty, pretty awful defeat at the hands of the Patriots, which will happen from time to time. But boy, did the Patriots make Miami look like shit. They took that 3-0 right out from under them and they're like, oh, you're 3-0 in our division and we're running too? you. Mm-hmm. We'll be past you in two weeks. Jake: I mean, that was the easiest pick I've ever made. My life was going like last week going, oh, I don't care what the points are. I know what happens when you go back to New England. You get them ripped roaring. Give them something to talk about, you know, something to put on the bulletin board Justin: in their house. We said this at the very beginning of the year. Like this is what New England does. They generally go like three and three. But then they finish the season somewhere around 12 and four. That's what they do. And they're getting they're getting guys back now. Edelman's back. Edelman's back. Gordon's on the field. Oh boy. Look out. And Sony Michelle's is healthy. Like, look the fuck out. Yeah, they just don't have a defense again. Yeah, but that always kind of shapes its fellow check. turns that around somewhere towards the end of the season. Luckily he gets to play in his division Jake: Tana Hill twice, Josh Allen twice, and Sam Donald twice. Right. As rookies. Isn't that fun? For him,
51:02 Jake: it's rip roaring fun. Yes, and he gets us late in the season twice, I think. Six wins. Yeah, Justin: basically. They just have like six built-in wins year over year. There's six. Throw a couple more. All right. Anyway, this is about Miami, um, and how terrible they are. So yeah, I think Cincinnati's pretty good since I favor by seven. I think they're pretty decent actually They have a lot of talent on their team. I think they win 24 16 Yeah, I was surprised that my mommy actually had a good defense. I'm surprised that they were just getting beat like that Jake: But I'll say I think they're gonna I think they're gonna beat up on Miami a lot more than that Since he's a sneaky good team 30 13 since II Okay, and then the game really just a pic. Well, let's give our keys the castle Justin: Well to answer your question. Yes, it really is a pic the Jets are hosting Denver Initially, they were favored by one on Monday and Tuesday, but in the final line, which is what we we Pick against on Thursday. They are it's a pick them. It's essentially Denver favored by three if you want to look at it that way But it's it's a pick them Case Keenum coming into town. I don't think he's anything to worry about he's consistent I guess he's a game manager as Crappy as that word is to throw around. That's what he is. He manages the game. They have we're talking about this a little bit off podcast off air, but they have a good running game. They have these two guys, three headed monster. Yeah, I don't really care about Booker, but they throw Freeman and this guy Lindsay in there. I mean, two thumpers. Who also have some like Lindsay's got some some jiggle like he's got some some moves like Jagger yeah, and We're gonna have to stop that Because that's the key is like first down there and run the ball and if they game four yards They're gonna run it again on second now And they're not gonna have case Keenum try to you know, throw the ball over the place and beat ya They're gonna dink dunk Get those running backs involved You know we've seen Lindsay's Small and fast, but also pretty damn strong and Freeman's really freaking strong. He just runs through arm tackles. So Like enough of this arm tackle go for the strip go for the ball bullshit Like you're finally on my on my board. I mean it works like Williams and you get them having the five yards Williams and force a few fumbles already this year by doing that and I don't mind It but you got it. You got to be the second guy in to do that You can't really be the first guy who's just going for a strip. They're just gonna run through you and You've also got to watch out for
54:00 Justin: the defensive ends and guys like Vaughn Miller who are coming for you, Sam. They're gonna come and we don't really have the guys to block Vaughn Miller. Nope, particularly just straight up. They have a rookie on the other side. Jake: They just picked up in the first round. Justin: Well, they drafted the defensive end in the... first round did they not yes and they have ray we got it two years ago in the first round they've got pass rushers i don't think their secondary is as good as it has been nope well they lost to lieb and right they do have one guy harris is still there and he's still very good Don't really know which receiver they decide to take out of the game because it doesn't necessarily matter I guess a noon wah But I think Harris plays primarily outside Inside That's a waste Throw anyone on Anderson anyone who can run or is yours row on Anderson or can strip a ball I'm bigger than Anderson and it's not a thing Anderson, I watch the Matrix did you yeah you fumbled So Denver's Not really concerned about their offense. I think I think they're gonna score like on their first drive I'm predict out now Denver's gonna come out and score on their first drive. I think they're gonna have trouble after that though And I'm really just concerned about getting them getting to the quarterback, because if we don't have time, we're in big trouble. And I don't think we're going to have the time. And he's going to be standing there like just a lame duck ready to get smacked. And that concerns me because I don't think we're going to be able to run. And I would hope that we'd be able to control the ball a little bit better than we have been. And I mean, during that Dolphins game, we had a couple of drives that were like 13 play drives, and they result in like three or fewer points. That is like if you're going on 13 play drive. Like, let's not have a B for 45 yards. Let's score the ball. So I'd like to see a little more downfield stuff. And take a chance. Take a risk here, there, the other place. And let's run a trick play. Let's, come on, we gotta get on the scoreboard here. What's your score? 17, 16. Shit, that's nice. So I just, going back, IRL, I would, I'd pick Denver. Okay. Bye. Jake: Going back week three I predicted I'm now keeping a little list of my keys to the castle My keys of castle week two was tie tie tie tie tie up Tyra Taylor Well that worked for half. It did So this one here's my keys of castle for this week I'm calling it sprinkles and wrinkles Sprinkles and wrinkles. We need to sprinkle in lots of wrinkles into our offensive game plan.
57:04 Jake: That is not just... You know, and we talked about this, you know, we talked about this watching the Baltimore game, you and I watching the Baltimore game, we talked about this when Sanchez was a rookie and we would have plays, and you know, it didn't really work out when we did it with Tim Tebow, but... When we had some wrinkles for him just to kind of, you know, change it up a little bit. So he's not, you know, every single time just doing some drop back, really difficult read against a difficult defense that there's a little sprinkles that you know what's going to happen. I think I think this is actually a high scoring game. I think we're going to be able to score. I think they're going to be able to score. I feel like we're going to get all the way. Like I think we'll be able, we can win this game. This is not, if we were in Denver, this would be, it'd be 40 to three. But I feel like at home, I just want to see Sam get more and more comfortable. And I want to give him a couple wrinkles. I'd love to see some of the plays and some of the things I would go back if I were the offensive coordinator and watch what the Chiefs did. and you know they have lots of wrinkles in their offense. They do lots of things to get guys who have speed with the ball. You know who I'd like to see hit the ball this week? Someone with speed. Cannon. Can or can't? Cannon. Cannon. Like this is this tiny fast fucker. Like get the fast fucker the ball and let's see what he can do with it. Right? That's kind of like I'd like to see some of that. Bring in some wrinkles. You've had some game planning now. You know, you came back, you've had all week. You're at home. You can get to him and you can make him make mistakes. So let's I think we can I'd like to see more of a lion's game. I think we can score on a lot of different levels. So I'm picking the jest to win on this 30 to 27. Maybe they missed the field goal at the end. Let's tie it up. All right. That's it for us. We are back next week. Maybe if you're good. If you leave us really nice reviews. If you don't, we will never come back. Just kidding. Until then, it's Justin and Jake saying the same old thing every single week. Going on our 11th year. Let's go Jets.
1:00:00 Jake: You
