00:19 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. the longest-running New York Jets podcast. ever period. I'm Jake joining me 304 times in a row. God that's a lot. It's Justin. Justin, how are you doing today? Awesome. Really? Yeah. I like right before this podcast started you were like dude you're just killing me on the pics. Yeah you're just crushing me. I'm falling off by... Justin: Two knows it's only been two weeks and I was actually looking at the throne picks where no Jake: I know you were here just cuz the other one you're doing better. That's why you weren't am I yeah I didn't look at where you were there you go. All right. Well, we have a game to discuss We got our agenda. I and Jen dis agenda Papa. We have all those things We'll talk about the jazz first dolphins. We'll talk about the jet Kingdom fantasy league a little bit We'll talk about the checking. Well, then we'll make our picks for this week including our checking to pick them, our throne picks or AFCs thrown picks and then our keys of the castle for beating the Browns in tomorrow. Tomorrow. Shitbaggers. And then we'll get the fuck out of here. Right. And let's talk about it. So. The game that was, the home opener, the mighty, mighty dolphins came into MetLife Stadium. They did. And it was Donald's first home opener and you and I were both there. We were. My voice is almost back. I was not yet, not much. I was with two crazy dolphin fans. Dummy. And what do you think of the game? Justin: I really want to watch it again on TV. I wasn't sitting in. I wasn't sitting with you in our quote our seat. Yeah, not ours at all. I was sitting in our our friend seats, our tailgate buddy. Jake: Yeah. Who does not listen to this podcast? He can say anything you want. Justin: No. So, but her seats are downstairs. And they're like right on the goal line Lower Bowl like 119 right on the goal line. Yes, so when actions coming towards you Or actions on that side of the field. It's pretty awesome. You're close anything on the other side of the 40 You can't really see a whole lot and you have no perspective for if it's three yards eight yards 12 yards 15 yeah like you have no idea right so you're saying is you haven't rewatched the weekend no I haven't it's do you remember the game I remember the game we lost I remember coming away not nearly as disappointed with the Jets as you were
03:07 Justin: you were like Not happy at all. You were texting me throughout the game like ready to fire Todd bull Oh, you're like dummy Todd bulls. What's he doing? No, I'm jing with that and the timeouts. It's like dude He didn't do any of that. Yeah, there's one thing I know out. Yeah, I was surrounded by dog. I calling so Well, we'll talk about that and I you know, I came away from it like alright Sam had he definitely again my focus is on Sam Darnold for the most part this season I want to see Sam Darnold play well See the defense play well when given opportunities and not put in shit situations Which sometimes they so you know in watching I came away thinking alright Donald is pretty good. Like I've seen two games now. There's nothing that leads me to believe that this kid is going down the Geno Smith path or like the Jamis Winston path or the Jamarcus Russell path. Like he's not, he doesn't feel like a bust to me. This guy feels like he's gonna be really, really great. He has this ability, this athletic ability that. is uncanny kind of with from the quarterback position because you think of him and when you look at him you'd like oh He's more of a Russell Wilson type. He's not going to just stand there in the pocket. He'll take what you give him and he'll take it right from the pocket. But he's got he's got moves. He's got the ability to roll directions of directions, which is truly impressive. I mean, he made one. He had one play in that game where he rolled to his left. Total improvisation like pocket was collapsing and he did that Russell Wilson move where you take the one step in and then you spin Around to your left and everybody's gone It's like whoa that just happened and then he chucked it 30 yards down the field and it hit Herndon right in the chest and he dropped it and I was like motherfuck That kid just made a play and now we've got to like punt essentially. So, that kind of shit happens and it's bad luck and it sucks. He got picked twice. Once was definitely just a rookie wasn't reading the coverage properly, was trying to hit somebody on what appeared to be a slant and like the safety just jumped it. If I recall again, I got to watch it again, but that is what I saw. OK, cool. And then the other one was like right off a big turnover and the crowds going nuts and and we're down like inside the 20
06:03 Justin: on the next play through a pick in the end zone, which is a killer. And again, I kind of thought as much saw it, but I have to rewatch it. And it was even stated afterwards that it was true. The target was to Tyrell prior, and he kind of like cut off his route a little bit because he didn't think that the ball was coming his way. And that kind of sucks. That's stupid, like. That ball was thrown right to the DB. Like you don't know where the ball is going to go. And because you stopped for even a millisecond, like maybe that didn't have to be a pick. Maybe it could have just been an incompletion. Like we could have put a point to that. Turtle Prize got a big body He's going to block them out and, you know, maybe that ball gets knocked down. Maybe prior can make a play on the ball and knock it down. But instead, it's just a clean catch in the in and we force a turnover and boom, it goes right back to the fins going back the other way. So that really bothered me. But overall, overall. I thought Sam played fine. He's not his greatest game, but he did throw for 300 Second game so throw for 334 yards he threw for the touchdown You know, I think our offensive line needs a lot of work So he got sacked three times he was under pressure and I don't think he yet has any real and this will be really interesting to see when we get to the end of the year, but I don't think he has any real chemistry with anybody but Quincy and noon at this moment in time. And I mean, tons of points there. Jake: Yeah, I made a lot of tons that I'll agree with. Well, I was trying not to cut you off. Tons of things. One. I think what you're seeing, I think he has a great thing with Quincy New. I think Quincy New is that good. I think he's the, and I don't want to say Brandon Marshall, but I'm just thinking of someone who's like, he's so good, that it doesn't really matter if you're on target or if you know what you're doing. The guy's just going to make all the effort and he's going to get the ball. Justin: I mean, Brandon Marshall, that one year, he made Fitzpatrick look There was a play, I think it was in the third quarter, where they ran that little action where Robbie Anderson did the jet sweep and they snapped it and off of the jet sweep, Quincy was lined up kind of tight to the to the offensive tackle.
09:00 Justin: And Robbie Anderson kind of just ran a wheel route, like something that you'd normally see a running back run out of the backfield. And Robbie came out and ran straight up the sideline. And Quincy went out and kind of just hooked at like 20 yards out. They were both open. I mean this was happening right in front of me. So I'm watching the whole thing and I'm like, whoa, they're both open. Hit Robbie, hit Robbie, hit Robbie. Boom, he hits Quincy. Right? And it was like, oh, I can only imagine how frustrating that is for Robbie. Because that was like a design play for him to get open doing the thing he does running down the field straight. It was still a good play. Quincy gained like 20 yards on the play or whatever. That's where I feel like, yeah, that's the safety blanket. He's good. If I throw it his way, he'll make the right play. Robbie doesn't. He drops and he fumbles. He's skinny as shit. He can throw it in two yards short of a first down. And if anyone's close to him, he's not getting a first down. Jake: Quincy's gonna. So I did come away. I gave my best like I definitely came away. You were angry. Angry. Because well, because the game was completely winnable. Like it was a winnable game, but I went back and I did rewatch the condensed version, which really helped me out because for the first time ever, there are certain games, there's games you just, you just get beat on the very side. There's games that, you know, it's like the lions. The lions just got beat. Everything went against them, but they didn't play well. They just played... poorly on all sides. Then there's games that there are one or two or three, and I think there were five plays in this one, that. You just needed three of them to go your way and you'd be and you would have won the game. And I think the the the tight end not reaching out at the end scored the touchdown. the pick in the end zone, you know, the one you just talked about, the strip of of Tannehill that they got it back. That was at their like at our 20. We could have easily scored at that point. And there's one other that I was just like, there's just these plays that, man, if they had just gone our way in any little way. We could have won that game. So that was kind of frustrating. But I'll tell you the thing again, I'm always comparison the last year or two years. I guess last year too. My complaint with with my account always was he couldn't drive the ball. Like consistently and in the beginning of this game I have seen the same thing. There it was like punt, punt, punt. We were also starting at the 10. or the five and then we get a penalty and we start at like the two. It was terrible starting position for the entire game. Yeah, they were beating us on special teams. But then I saw and when when it needed to happen and this is where I think we have Hope's eternal like he did drive the field many times again ending the half with a throw to a guy who's wide open.
12:01 Jake: two yards from the end zone, you gotta make that play. You can't be the tight end who drops it. You can't be the, you can't be, you know, fumbling the ball when you're a receiver is something that shouldn't happen a lot. Like that's a very rare thing. And Robbie's fun, so like all those plays, so that was the other play, that was four. The Robbie Anderson fumble, like no, that shouldn't happen. But I was impressed by the when he actually was out there and driving the ball, not loving the interceptions. The one's fine, but the other one was just a really, just bad read. And that's, I'm hoping not to see so many bad reads from him. Yeah, so anyway, I just, it was winnable. And I don't like winnable games that we lose. I don't like losing at home. I certainly don't lose into the fucking dolphins. So I was kind of pissed at that. All right, so pick your... play the game and you're a fool for the game. Justin: Well, do we pick plays when we lose? Yeah, why not? I guess we do. Jake: Play a good play or you pick a terrible play. Pick a play. Justin: All right. I'll pick a play then. I'll pick a play I already mentioned. It was both a good play and a terrible play. That play that Sam rolled out to his left. I made something happen out of nowhere and throws it down the field to Herndon, who's wide open and the ball literally just hits him right in the face or in the chest or something. And he just drops it. I think that that kid had an opportunity with Sterling going out with a concussion very early in the game, Hernan got a lot of snaps. And he dropped that one, which I think came later. And I'll pick a second one, which was the last play before halftime, which was a quick, hot, you know, had to throw it to Herndon real quick. And he could not again. My my issue with like Austin Saverian Jenkins, you're a fucking tight end. Like run someone over. Jake: Run him over! If that was Gronk, he would have literally been in the end of the endzone. Justin: Dude, it's do or die. It's the end of the half. You're at the two yard line. Jake: Get two yards. Also awareness of where you're at. You have seven seconds. Yeah, and awareness. Justin: He was the one who caught the ball to get down there and didn't get out of bounds. It was on the sideline, which caused us to have to waste the time out, which meant that he needed to make that play to get into the endzone. So like, Chris turned in. You showed a little promise with the athletic ability, but dude Awareness smarts be better So those are my plays and he's gonna just take my fool I was gonna give my fool to Terrell Pryor, but I heard I'm thinking about it Chris Herndon Jake: prior was pretty bad The backbreaker of this game were those huge, huge third down plays. And there were multiple where we had them at third and long and we couldn't get them off the field.
15:03 Jake: There's one at the end where, you know, Drake ran and there's another one where freaking Tana Hill ran. I don't know who to give the fool to because I can't even tell and I've read this. It was this person's fault this person's fault But I don't like it when I see Tana Hill running 45 fucking yards on us and these shoes He started the game by doing a design run like whoever the fuck's fault that is You're the fucking fool that should not be happening because by the way that's with that's what Tana Hill who I know Actually has more legs than you would think and he does he's a mother But guess what's happening tomorrow night? Justin: Terrod. Jake: And he can do that too. Justin: That play. But guess what? That play? That's what happens in NFL, right? Teams know we screwed that play up and the other teams watching like, hey, they don't know how to do that play. Jake: I will be waiting for that. We got that covered. Oh, let's hope so. Because that was ridiculous. And it happened again and again and again, the same play. Let's just go back to the play calling. I thought in the first game, besides those two plays that they called, the second game, I just thought it was just, I know it was situational and we got down and like, don't score in the first half, you're down by 20 at the half. Justin: You're 20 to nothing. You're kind of fucked. And we should have scored. At the very least 20 to 3, we really should have went in there 27. Jake: Yeah. I think your game plan cut- wait, 27 and getting the ball back. Justin: And getting the ball. Yeah, we should be- I had the whole thing set up. Should be 2014 and then you're like, you're back in the game. That was pretty impressive too, by the way. They went down the field fucking fast. Yeah. And I didn't think they were going to try, and they did, and they got there. That was cool. They didn't get all the way back. Jake: Imagine what happens if he gets a little bit better and you actually get either chemistry or get some of these younger players actually good. Anyway, I just thought the play calling out was interesting. There was all these things that kind of worked in the first game, but then I didn't see many of them show up in the second game. And maybe it's like, whoa, we don't want to show our cards. But like. Use some of those things. They worked. They took the pressure off. Like he got sacked a shit ton more in this game. It's not because of better personnel. I just think it's because the play calling didn't give him as much chance to get out of there. So all those sweeps and the reverses and the reverses and sweeps that happen against the Lions, like I wanted to see more of those because I feel like they worked not the one the third one third down one with Robbie Anderson but like. There were some that worked, so let's mix those up. I just start giving up on them and be like, yeah, we're not doing this. And they even fucking did the wildcat against us. I think Sporta Touchdown? No, that didn't work. Anyway, all right, let's move on. Fucking moving on, moving on.org. All right, how we doing the fantasy league? Who'd you go up against with last week? Justin: I'm not sure who I played, but I beat them. Jake: You went up against Sanchez, and your broadcasters took on the revenge of Sanchez. So you won your first game this season. Good job.
18:00 Jake: I went up against the Tank Exchange, and I lost. Your first loss. Oh, that's great. My first loss, yeah. That's good. I mean, it's just so kind of pathetic. Could have played, I played Breeze over Matt Brown. I mean, Matt Ryan, Matt Ryan, should have played Matt Ryan. But anyway, I could have won this. Next week, who are you taking on? I don't know. Tell me. You're looking at it. I am looking at it. Let's see. We're not going up against each other. I'm taking on, I'm talking on Revenge of the Sancheyes. There's Connor. He's new to the league. So I'll crush him like the grape is. And you're taking on... Krista Sousa Marshall Flaw. So there you, we got some good matchups this week and All right, we, we'll move on to our pick them how everybody do last week I Sucked eggs. Did you oh for burger? I put up a seven You know, in this week, in this pick them with the spreads, that's okay. The winner of the week. Justin: I think a 10 is where you need to be. Jake: Well, winner of the week was don't call it a comeback with nine, which is the best of the week. Tough week. Yeah. But Ozjet still leads the top with 19. Justin: I think I have 14. Jake: Uh, yeah, I'm under right there. I have 11. I'm doing terrible. All right. Justin: Taking your ass here. All right. Let's do it. So let's pick them. Jack remind everybody I'm picking all the games against the spread. We'll leave the AFC East participants for later on. During the throne picks where we'll do scores a little more in depth and we'll talk about the jets obviously later. And clearly the Jets play first this week, so I'll skip them and we'll get right to it. Let's just check the four o'clock situation. We've got Three four o'clock games this week and I'll be at one of them and you'll be yeah Jake: I'll be at one of the but I will be going you want to care I'll be going at 1 o'clock to the 4 o'clock game. What?! How does it even happen? Justin: Well, you'll be there. And it's you know on the west coast yeah should be fun all right. Let's do it Jake: It's good because I'm not missing any games I will try to get out of there and try to get to a place to watch them Sunday night because at least it's against The team that I afternoon. It's a Sunday afternoon Justin: Sunday at four or five 5 o'clock. Yeah, yeah, we're over by 8 30. It's the greatest. I love being on the west. It's 10 though. I'll be tailgating. 10am. It's perfect. All right. All right. NFC South Battle. Yeah, baby. Is this the best division in football right now after two weeks? NFC South? No. name a better one. Oh I don't think you can. Atlanta, New Orleans, Carolina, Tampa. Jake: Tampa's 2-0. They're all the other ones are all one-on-one. How are they the best? That's Justin: tough. Well that's a really good division man. Those are four really good teams that you don't
21:03 Justin: want to mess with. That's the best division of all. First of all that's an NFC division. So not the best AFC. Jake: No, I'm saying are you asking NFC, AFC or are you asking overall? Justin: I think it's the best division in football right now. That's a hard one. That's real tough. And now I don't think you could come up with a better one. You don't know cupcakes in there. You're not getting an easy win. There's no bills. I think Carolina's a cupcake in that. I don't think so aren't they too and oh Viking Green Bay lions Lions are pretty shit. Yeah, they are the cupcake. They're pretty shit aren't they? Yeah I guess I guess Carolina's one-on-one, but you got Tampa 2-0 Atlanta 1 a Yeah, but, uh, New Orleans hasn't quite lit it up just yet. Jake: I'm not still looking. I'm so looking at those divisions. Justin: It is the best one, right? Jake: I don't know if I need these are is the best but. Justin: Only two weeks in but still. Jake: But even like look at the AFC South Jaguars Titans Colts Texans Texans are the worst team in the books in there Justin: But still on a team that I want to go up against. Yeah, but they are not very good. Neither are the Colts Mmm, Colts aren't very good. I mean you take those four match them up against the other four that we're talking about. Jake: NFC Rams, 49ers, Seahawks don't really want to play any of those teams. Seahawks are terrible. Well, I just don't think they're... I don't think they're long-term terrible. I think each one you're right has a bad team in it. Brandon Marshall I mean, Atlanta should win this game, but I'll take the Saints. Justin: All right. Kansas City is hosting San Francisco. Kansas City is favored by seven because of the great Patrick Mahomes. But they're forgetting about the great Jimmy G. And I think this is Kansas City's first home game. So I think they're going to be a little too like what we just had with the darn old situation where they're like, yes, we've got our new toy and he scored 10 touchdown games. So I'm going to take those seven points. Jake: I too am going to take the seven. I just. Yeah, I just don't think it's gonna continue being a big blow. I think Sam Fran will stick with them. I don't know if it was Sam. I don't look at Sam Fran. I don't know if it was 49 or something. Look at them and go like, what team are you yet? I don't even know what team they are. Justin: Yeah, they're not there yet.
24:01 Justin: Maybe they're a year away. Jake: All right, next. Justin: Philly is hosting Indianapolis. Good double skip. Impressive. Philly is hosting Indy. Um... The line is Philly's favorite by seven. It was off early. Does that mean whence is starting? Yes Jake: When seven back went his back back again pick this kind of not really thinking about it Justin: I picked it with picking the Colts in the seven points But with when's back a kind of switch that but I'll stick with it. I'll take indie Jake: And the seven I'm going to take indy and the seven as well. A little rust, right? I'm like the rust factor. Justin: Well, it's been a while. I was kind of like thinking Nick Foles shouldn't be favored by seven, but I'll take the rust and it'll be a loud stadium. Jake: That's for sure. Justin: We'll be happy to have when starting an absolute crazy fest there. Don't go there wearing a colts uniform. You might die. All right. Green Bay is going to Washington. and Green Bay is favored on the road by two and a half, which is pretty decent. Like favored by two and a half on the road. Not bad. I like them too. I think the pack win the game. Jake: I think they did. I think they win by more than two and a half. Two and a half is too small. I think the pack are going to win. Justin: Yeah. I also think any time Aaron Rodgers, I don't know this. It's so anecdotal. I think anytime Aaron Aaron Rodgers sees Alex Smith on the other sideline, I think he just goes for it. Okay. Jake: He sees someone else on the sideline. He's like, yeah, I'm not gonna go for it. Well, Justin: that just shows your lack of football knowledge. Why? Well, Alex Smith was drafted number one overall in the draft that Aaron Rodgers had to sit in the back green room. Waiting for 20 some odd picks for green beta eventually pick him and how many years ago? Dude guys, don't forget that ship Tom Brady still carries that chip on his shoulder Jake: Well, that is a real chip Aaron Rodgers, but you ain't been no more at all to the 49ers. No, yes So wouldn't he be more pissed at the 49ers? No, I think he looks at Alex Smith and he's like, I'm so much better than you. And I get paid a thousand times more than you do. But I have a better looking girlfriend than you do. Justin: But I didn't have the start of my career. And all that stuff stays with players. I know it does. I think it gets washed away by their Super Bowl rings. I don't think so. Or ring the guest. Ask Brady if he still cares that he's drafted in the sixth round. He guarantee you it drives him every day. I think the six is different than falling in the first whatever. When you when you know you're the better guy and someone gets drafted ahead of you, it's that guy that you're not. Jake: You just those and it'll move on. Org. Justin: Now you're trying to prove it's fact when you just said it's anecdotal. Go ahead. Carolina is being hosting Cincinnati. And Carolina is giving two and a half. I think Cincinnati cannot go three and 0.
27:03 Justin: So I'll take Carolina. They can't go three and 0. It's impossible. It's just not that good. Come on. I'll take Carolina. Jake: Their regular season good. I'll take Carolina. We have not disagreed yet. Very, very upset with this. That is bad. Justin: Jacksonville, there's no line on this. And I looked what happened last week when there was no line by today. and Basically, it's a non-game. So we'll just pick it. My Jags are hosting Tennessee. I'll take my Jags. Jake: I don't... Is this a Fernet thing? I think it's a Mariodas. Marioda thing? Justin: Yeah, because Blink ever played last week. And he's terrible. Uh, yeah, I'll take Jags and Vov. Whatever, there's no... This won't count, so it doesn't matter. Well, it doesn't even count as a game? No. You don't get a win, you don't get a loss, you get a nothing. Interesting. Still at one o'clock. Baltimore is hosting Denver. Baltimore favored by five. Baltimore not as good as you think they are. I'll take Denver. Jake: Baltimore not as good as I thought they were. I'll take Denver as well. I remember when you beat the bills 40 to whatever three. It doesn't mean you're that good It means they're that bad. We'll say we're even when we play them and we don't beat them by 40 proven Justin: Okay, last one o'clock we have Houston hosting the New York Giants Jake: That's a double Texas week. They had to go down on Sunday night, right to Dallas and then go back to Houston on I wonder if they stayed. Justin: Probably not. I don't think either of these teams are very good, but I'm going to take a few stinks. I don't think the Giants can score more than like 10 points. Man, can we stop here for a moment? Jake: Oh, don't do this dance yet. This is not a good dance. You can't do this dance after two games. Justin: Can we just, after two games, stop for just a moment? Jake: And just try to do the dance? I think it's I think it's foolish. It's foolish. What's foolish? What am I about to do? Can we stop and look at the Giants not picking the quarterback in at the second pick? Justin: Seriously, can we look at that and be like how did they think how they were? Jake: How did they think that they were? All right, we're done. Go ahead. I'll let you I'll let you have a mini rant go. I'm not gonna cut you off. It'll be a, it'll be- Justin: If you do, I am gonna walk out the door. Jake: I'll finish the podcast. By yourself. Well, I can pick every game. By myself. Justin: So how did they think that they were a running back away? Because that's what they think when they make that pick, right? When you pick number two overall and you pick a running back, you're like- Well everything else is set. We got our quarterback clearly. They knew that the line, but they made moves to fix the line supposedly. Well they went out and paid a left tackle. They drafted a guard in the second round. They got a whole new line. They moved Eric Flowers, a failed first round pick in the top 10 I think. From left tackle to right tackle after two years. They fucked that pickup.
30:01 Justin: They messed this pick up as great as Barkley is and fuck is he awesome? I mean I watch that game the Dallas game then Sunday night. They just Jake: I threw him. I mean he can't tackle him. No, you can't tackle him. He does not get tackled. The first guy Justin: No, you need like four guys to just because his legs are like 60 feet wide Like the guy's just like he's a football field. Yeah But after 2 games, that kid's gonna be like, okay, let's say he's the best running back in the league. Jake: Yep. Justin: For the next five years. Yep. They still need a quarterback. Jake: Well, it looks like they'll be right at the top of pick this year and they'll get a quarterback. They might pull- Listen, our buddy who's a Giants fan is already thinking Rams. He's thinking girl league off. Which is exactly what the Rams did. Listen, there's always a running back. If you had a girly goth and a brackham. Justin: Yeah, but there's always a running back. There's always a running back to take. Sure. Sure. Jake: Can't say yet. Gotta see. We'll see. This is a debate that only gets settled after fight. When one of the- Justin: When that contract comes. Jake: When the two players- stops playing and then you can look at their career go well this one's still playing is still good and this one's not. We'll see what happens. They go off and win three Super Bowls in the next three years because they drafted the quarterback number one overall and they went three Super Bowls. I just can't believe that Justin: they thought that all they needed was to like fix a handful of things in UI would be just fine. Fuck is he bad? He's gonna be the worst Hall of Famer ever. He probably will. Jake: Well, name his numbers weren't great. Justin: Yeah, but that was a different era of throwing the football. Jake: Alright, keep going. Justin: Well, you didn't make your pick. Jake: Uh, I'll take a Houston. Justin: All day, twice a day. Jake: I still believe that Houston's gonna bounce back. Justin: All right. The defense got four o'clock or where we'll both be one o'clock. Can't wait. All right. I will not be at the game. You will. The Rams of L.A. are hosting the Chargers of L.A. Jake: I'm calling this the La La game or the La La La La. Justin: Rams favored by seven and a half. Umm, probably valid. They're probably the best team in the whole league at the moment. But I'll take those points and the Chargers, because I think the Chargers have shown that they're also pretty good. Jake: Oof, no. There's not- the Rams are one of those teams. They're kind of fun that way. They don't give a fuck. They just keep scoring. They score a lot. They roll it up and they've been doing that all last year too. No reason to stop it. Justin: I think they could win by 14. Yeah, we need we need a coach like McVey, don't we? Yeah. All right Chicago goes to Arizona another candidate for one of the worst teams in the league And Chicago is favored on the road by seven cannot remember the last time I said that little phrase
33:06 Justin: I like them. I like Chicago with Mitch Shubisky. It doesn't matter. That's a good system That is that system. That is the Andy Reid coaching tree system Jake: And it is good and we good offense and we left on on getting that guy getting Mac Justin: Mac. Yes, that guy's a monster monster monster Give up the next two years first round picks for him right now next year's hey, we'll trade them to you for your next back first round pick So that's what they gave out two straight years of first rounders. I think they got a second back. Oh Jake: Well, we're missing a second, but we should never have seconds. We don't need seconds It's a lot. It's a lot. And then you've got to pay him. Yeah, well, the pay I'm not worried about. We have the money. I just we whiff on that position all the fucking time. I mean, not this John Abraham. Justin: And we picked a guy like legit. Jake: If he was on our team, like, Justin: I don't be like knocking quarterbacks out left and right. Anywho, I'll take Chicago. Samsies. I mean, that might be the Sam Bradford gets injured game. Yes, it is. We can put money We can put money in the mat hopefully Jake: Rosen, in comes the Rosen Justin: Seattle Jake: I want all the quarterbacks to start this year Justin: Seattle hosts Dallas This line Jake: Weird line Justin: Just plummeted to pick them It was Seattle favored by three Then that went down to two and a half And now it's Just zero. Yeah. So I'll pick Seattle at home because they're home and all they have to do is win and I don't think Dallas is very good. So neither of these teams are very good. I'll take Seattle. I'll take Seattle at home. And they're not, are they? Jake: They wouldn't let, they're not going 0-1-3. Justin: There's a there's a team on a can they're not very good remember, but I don't think Dallas is very good either All right, we'll skip Sunday night cuz it's got an AFC Jake: Sunday night Justin: That should be a fun one though. We'll talk about it in a minute. We are and then Jake: Destruction which don't ever want to play is that team coming off a loss? No never Justin: And now a really interesting game that I a couple weeks ago I would have said that looks boring, but now it's like it's magic It's magics pulling his trick. Yep, cuz I think Winston's eligible to come back after this week. That's right. Three game suspension That's right and Fitz is gonna go out there on Monday night and do a little Fitz magic And it's going to be hard on the box to be like the dude who's leading the league in yards and touchdowns. We have to. I don't think they're they're not. They're not going back to win. So I don't think they are either. Fits is going to do this again. It's going to do it again again. You know what Fitz does? Fitz is racist.
36:01 Justin: He plays well one for one year. He goes into teams with starting black quarterbacks. Yes. And unseats them. Jake: Okay, whatever that's just not an opinion that I would rather even touch on this game Justin: That was pretty cool after the game when he came out in the Conor McGregor situation. Well, he came out in Sean yes, yes, yes, it was funny. It was very funny. Anyway, he's he's very funny. He's very smart do Don't jump on my joke All right. Who you picking? Not that funny. I should have left alone. I'm picking Pittsburgh. I can't see them going. Oh, two and one. Like that just seems absurd for Pittsburgh to be. Pittsburgh is I mean, there are articles this morning about. Yeah. Antonio Brown didn't show up to practice or show up some meeting. That said trade me like I think you go see what my value is. I feel like he and Leveon Bell are boys. Yeah. He's like, you know, they're fucking with my boy. Like this is fucked up. You're fucking with his money. You're fucking, you know. Don't do that. Stick your own game. You got your own thing going on. I'm gonna pick Pittsburgh because I really can't see them losing. I don't know, in Tampa Bay. Big Ben's very good in prime time. Jake: He wins. I'm actually excited to see this game. We will be on five o'clock at night, so I can't wait. I'll wait. I might be up for it. All right. You're taking Tampa Bay. Justin: Let's head to the AFC East. Jake: Yeah. How do we do it on a thornpicks last week? Justin: I went one and two and you went two and one. You are now six and one on the on the season where I am four and three. Still mathematically alive. Jake: You are still mathematically. I will say the pick of the week, though. was picking jacks to win. That was the pick of the week. That was pretty good. That was good. I picked fucking Jacksonville to win. That was pretty good. All right, you nailed it. Let's do it. All right. Justin: Picking Buffalo was really tough. They couldn't make this line large enough. It's 17, Minnesota is hosting Buffalo, so. I guess they get to get away from their fans who are booing the shit out of them. Yep. Although they'll be someone who may help them. They'll be someone to fly it. Not that far. I guess it really isn't. Just fly the lake. Little regional flight. Um. Jake: They'll be one guy. Justin: So Josh Allen's not Sam Darnold. Jake: So I didn't see anything about that game. I was obviously not watching so that game. Yeah, they just suck. Was he really bad? Justin: I don't know if he was like really you know, was he that bad? I I don't know. I know that they scored like less than any like it was all This was all like garbage points, you know, they were getting their ass kicked pretty good By the Chargers they did end up scoring 20 But I think they all came like in the second half kind of late. Jake: Eighteen for thirty three, two hundred forty five yards, one touchdown,
39:03 Jake: two interception, five sacks. Justin: Yeah. And that that eighteen of thirty three, that fifty four point five percent completion percentage is the thing. Like when you look at that, you're like, whoo. You know, we look at Sam, he didn't have the greatest game, right? But he still had a bad game. He still completed 61% of his passes and threw for more than 300 yards. Jake: He didn't take five sacks. No. Oh, by the way, I know we lost the game, but I was in our little channel the other day and I was like, oh, it's funny. Like, oh, we got five interceptions. I want this year to get five this week to get five sacks. We got four sacks. I think we probably We got. Justin: 10 last year like our defense I think we have games here and there where we just Jake: can take it well but let's keep going yeah anyway go on anyway so Minnesota Justin: they're they're really good huh they are high last week but they're really good two ties they're really good they can play they could play defense they've we've got a quarterback And It's hard for me to say that someone's getting 30 40 again, but they have given up 40 and 31 so I'll split the difference and I'll make it 35 to 10 Jake: I'm going, I'm actually going to pick the line 30 to 13. I'm going to push if I were going to go bet on this, but I'm picking 30. Yeah, I just don't see, I just don't see them doing anything. If they score 13 points, they get one touchdown and two field goals. That's it. Okay, but you're trying to do the math you're mad. a man analysts Like how many losing years I give you lose it for two losing years he's gone for you can't Justin: just sign a 10 year contract and then eight of them. That's a lot of eating water and very fat watch. Jake: 2. Justin: I think you got to give him two years to kind of just get his shit together like with the system and Getting his guys in there and flushing the guys he doesn't want Jake: Yeah, but didn't land on a team that I thought had zero talent like he land on the bills Justin: He had a place that had a win a whole lot of games. Yeah, but had Jake: Had some Back there's one wide receiver. Yep. They had to they got rid of one. Well one was a free agent fine They could have resigned him then they fucked up the Mac deal
42:00 Justin: They definitely messed up the Mac cuz that that's their defense. I mean, I don't know and I was watching the end of that game and They were very lackadais. They were not really trying. And that kind of bothered me. Oh, really? Yeah, I was watching their defense like try to hold hold together the win at the end of the game against Denver, a rival. And there are guys that were just walking around and it was like, Oakland, you do not look good at all. So. It pains me to say them. I think Miami's gonna win this game and be 3-0 which is fucking Gross, but I think un going all the way across the country to, Miami playing early Gruden sucks. He's been out of it for too long I don't see it so and I mean we just saw Miami can kind of play They can score. I don't think Oakland can so I'm gonna give this game Miami 16 Oakland 13. It's a push Jake: I think it to win and I can't see Miami going 3-0. I didn't think they looked that good. We gave them every opportunity to win that game and they did but we just couldn't. You know again, five or six plays you're like what the fuck. So actually I think Oakland wins this game. I think it's close. Twenty two, 21 Oakland. Justin: So there you. Awesome. Now we have New England at Detroit. A Bell check disciple. Jake: Oh, not working out. Is that why this game is all is it Sunday night? Fucking because that's why. Justin: It's probably why they picked it initially. Jake: Fuck you NFL. I'm hanging up my... Justin: I know, we're got the Belichick, Matt Patricia storyline. What else is there? Why else would this be on Sunday night? I guess they could have thought that Detroit was gonna be better than they actually are. But, cause you can't know until the season really starts. You know, you could have thought, hey this is gonna be a pretty decent game. But basically you'll take New England against almost anybody else. Jake: This is where I think, I think third, um, this is where I think, uh, we should be flexing Justin: like immediately. Like after the second week. Like right now. Yes. Jake: We should be flexing. Yes. Because I'm just, I'm just actually going to the, uh, to the all games. Justin: You'd have to probably grab like one of those four o'clock games, but there's no reason why that Rams Chargers game shouldn't be the Sunday night game. Jake: There you go. Justin: And I could be there. That's a really good one. Jake: That's a better, much better game. Yeah. Than this trash fire. Justin: Um, Matt Patricius threw two games. Again, we're rushing to judgment on lots of things, but threw two games.
45:02 Justin: He looks like he's going to last about a season and then get fired because he's terrible. Everybody and he's a defensive coach who's defense. So right. And it's like, oh, they need to learn. Fuck you with the scheme. You're not a good coach. As a matter of fact, in the Super Bowl, in the defensive coordinator, you gave up 40 some odd points. To the Jets, and a rookie quarterback making his first start who spotted you 7, you gave up almost 50 points. And then last week, I think they lost and gave up in the high 30s maybe even 40 points. So, god damn did they suck on defense. Bello check is not gonna take it easy on him. Oh, no. And oh, no This is a business since the Jets scored 48 I'll say New England scores 49 because they're just a little better Jake: New England 49. Do you want to talk about the right 31 to on talk about the Josh Gordon trade? We should have talked about well, it's on the team Justin: Yeah, we should talk about that earlier, but yeah, it was on the team that were coming from a trader Did they actually trade for a conditional fifth conditional what fifth? What's the condition? Jake: Whatever he fucking makes the team and plays more than four games Justin: Probably they probably won't do I've been trying to make bets with people that he'll be play that he will play less than 12 games this year, which gives him a two week buffer for injury, injury or whatever mental illness. But no one will take that back, even though everyone thinks, oh my God, now he's going to catch 15 touchdowns. It's like, guess what? This guy's a fuck up. He's been a fuck up. It's true. He was drafted in the conditional draft. Because he was a fuck up, because he had to get out of school because they didn't want him in Baylor anymore. I think he went to Baylor. Wow, that would be good if I got that. I would be. And he so he had to leave and some the Browns grabbed him with a, you know, one of the was that it is called the conditional the supplemental supplemental draft. So he was he was one of those guys. And he had one good season, and it was four years ago. And everyone's like, this guy! People! He had one good season four years ago. He hasn't played 16 games in the next four years. Jake: He won't even play 16 games this year, because he's already been out of game. Justin: It's absurd, and... Everyone thinks there's this magic sauce in New England. It's not true There are guys that go there And are good and there are guys that go there and they get caught or don't make the team or play the whole year And they suck Ocho Cinco comes to mind. Yep You know like this guy could be completely done. We haven't seen him play but you are I think you're missing some of the point Jake: Which is first of all, there's just raw talent on the universe, right?
48:00 Jake: There's raw talent and he has just raw talent. We know that that's the truth. It's happening. The second piece that you're missing is that you're going from the most dysfunctional team on the planet with the most, the worst losing record, the worst everything. They're the worst team. There's no doubt it's the Browns. They're the worst team in the NFL. It doesn't matter, you can be a Jets hater, they're the worst fucking team, and they're dysfunctional, and probably the worst head coach, maybe the worst head coach in the entire league. Maybe the history. Is right there, and then you're going to the opposites. You're going to the best team, and you're going from a quarterback carousel to the most stable quarterback. You're going from the worst coach, to the best coach. You're going from a losing mentality to the best mentality. And the thing that the thing that the the Patriots do is that they their system and it's proven it's not even like we used to make this up like what's the system. They just surround people with the right personnel and there's just no failure. You either go away or you become good and if you're if you can learn the thing you don't I'm not saying I don't know what, what's gonna happen to him But like there is a huge upside because if they can set him straight and I think of the um the running back from the Cardinals many years ago, like 10 years ago. Think it was Cardinals. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He would play for Franklin two years He came off and then he had like one of the greatest seasons was Cardinals not was it? It's our court doing yes Bengals Bengals. Okay, right problem coming up a bad team that guy played for 10 years Yeah for Cincinnati. Yeah played but he was abused buddy played Justin: He was a man on the field and then he came out on the field. Yeah, he played football. I got you like That guy did not have a history of missing things. Jake: But this guy isn't missing games because of injuries. He's missing games because he's a fuck up. I think the Patriots organization... Listen, if you said you have a kid and he's a really good kid, but he's a fuck up. What team would you put that kid on to get better? You put them on a good team. No, you don't know. You put them on a good team. You surround them with with the best players who are going to make that player better. Justin: But the Patriots don't even have like that. They just have the Patriot way, which works, Jake: which is really just Bill Belichick. No, it's Bill Belichick. It's Tom Brady. And it's that mentality of. Do your job. That's it. Justin: Yeah, but, I don't know if this dude is capable of like doing his job. Jake: He can't even show up. That's what we'll find out. You go from the worst to the best, it will be interesting a,, the. If they do it, then, then again, I mean, not that the greatest quarterback and the greatest head coach to ever been is even up for debate anymore, but they will get another notch. If that, if he turns it around, that guy gets...
51:14 Jake: you are you you you are you are we play him when everybody's back on the team. and he's the long... whatever. Just do this over and over again. New England will win 31-20. Done. Moving on. Alright, let's get to the game that isn't. The game that wasn't. The game that's tomorrow. The only reason we're doing this on a Wednesday. Justin: The Wednesday podcast. Otherwise this would have been a Friday... Maybe Thursday. Get over my anger situation. Alright, so we've got we've got the Jets Brown pound cleave. I like the cleave. Yeah. Okay. Yes 30 rock reference Played two games and they didn't lose one of them And then they should have probably won this second one But not for the kicker who they cut now they drafted this year Way to go way to draft a kicker and then cut him two weeks into the center in the league Who just signed Dan Bailey someone did? the Vikings Vikings did oh or maybe the Vikings were the ones that drat yeah I think they were the ones who did so their kicker went 0 for 3 on field goals this week and they ended up tying so they cut their kicker miss an extra point he to Jake: not pleased you're on the shortest of leashes like literally not anything he had a 55 er just pretty good Justin: In in met life. That's pretty good. The guy's got a leg. I mean you see when he kicks off it goes through the yeah All right, let's go. What do you keys the castle to beat these fucks? It appears to me that the keys to the castle every every single week should be turnovers Because if we win the turnover battle we we do well if we turn the ball over too many times in key situations We're not gonna do well Um, with that being said, I'm really fucking scared of Miles Garrett. the a the, aa a I that a that the,- Yes, talk about like Khalil Mack that dude is fucking frightening That is a real deal for three defensive end who will knock you on your ass so Kelvin Beecher was gonna need some help all day all night So tight end lined up over there, chip him, running back, chipping him, just chip, chip, chip away at that guy, double team him, whatever you gotta do, you cannot let Miles Garrett destroy this game. Alright, well I'm Tremaine Johnson, cover him, and then what? We played Jarvis Landry
54:03 Justin: twice a year for the last four years. He's never really killed us. What else do they have? They got nothing else. I'm not scared of the running game. Tharod Taylor can run around a little bit. Fine. And Joker's a waste. Drops a lot of passes. Jake: Give me a score. Justin: 1713 Jets. Jake: Are you picking last year's game? That was our last year's game. Why was it? Yeah, I looked up. No, I'm just going to pick that. Justin: I just don't think there's going to be a lot of scoring. Thursday night generally a little lower on the scoring. Jake: So I'm not sure there's been some massive scoring Thursday night games, but OK. Key's the castle, so I just want to remind you. First week special teams. It's so true by the way. Second week I said run baby run because I thought we really had to establish a run game. Could not. Well first we got so down but we ran for like 40 yards the whole game. Like yeah we're how to come back thing you can't really get the run game. But Don that's the thing like that's why I didn't love the play calling because I feel like it just we went from this this running all over the place on one first game. We got but then we have like 160 yards on the ground the first game then to 40 game one Justin: We we definitely ran it more than this game. I feel like they were trying to get it established I remember the first game had that like 70 yard run from coil So that and that was late it was in like the fourth quarter so that kind of skews it We were also kicking their ass which also skews it. Yeah I just I want when you're down 20 to nothing it's hard to get a run game going. Jake: So if you say we've played Landry for a time we've played Tyrod more than a few times. At least twice last year and the year before that yeah we played him this is not and this is our defensive coach who's been our defensive coach the entire time. Todd Bowls been Yeah, they know Terrod Taylor. They know Terrod. And to me, the last game is so my keys to the castle is tie, tie, tie, which is you got to tie up Tyra Taylor because if that guy does anything like what Tannehill did to us, like these big broken design run plays that he just chews up and gets these massive third downs. Listen, in third and 19. They're off the field. They're not making out of third and 19 No, but if we let them get a third in 19, it's like we did the fucking Justin: Dolphins were dead. There was a good explanation for that actually that bowls gave which is what so at the time of that At the time when that when that play occurred, it was what the final score ultimately was, which is one score game. It's 20 to 12. Right. So it's eight points. Great. You score, you score touchdown, you get your two point conversion. We go to overtime. They were right on the cusp of, field, a field goal range. And if they would have attempted that field goal,
57:01 Justin: they essentially the game would have been over. So they sent in all outlets. Thinking all right. This is kind of like a run blitz where we'll stop that and if they try anything short We'll just kind of like eat it up Daniel did a pretty good job of standing in there waiting taking it and finding gore and Then gorgeous did a good job of like oh wow everyone just blitzed. I'll find this little hole. I'll be hot and Just dumped it off and really they shouldn't have gotten the first down That's the shitty part like make them kick the goddamn field goal, right? But I get the rationale behind what they were doing fine I will tell you need to execute a little better Jake: There are a few times during the jet season that I have incredibly bad feelings And I have these bad feelings about this game. I do not like a winless team. I don't like a winless team back at home. I don't like a winless team who just got rid of the cancer off their team. And I don't like off a short week coming off a loss at home. I don't like any of it. I don't like anything about this. Like this game, I actually just want to I want to fast forward the Friday morning, wake up and see what the game is. I feel like watching it is going to be painful. Am going to pick them the jest to win because I always will pick them to win and the way to do that is I Think just play a good so it is turnovers, but it I think it's Tyra Taylor He's not good enough to beat you unless you just let something stupid happen Right some big play some some guy not covering dreaux revis not covering the that you do expect though that that Justin: Torad Taylor is gonna make at least two or three plays. And one one of them will be with his legs. Like it will frustrate you. It'll be like third and 12 and you'll think you've got them all bottled up and then he'll run for 13 yards and be like, what the fuck? Right. He's he is that good. Yes. And he will make one play with his arm. Jake: And I'm pissed about this because I really wanted Baker Mayfield. I wanted Baker versus I wanted that to Sam. I really don't know. Justin: I really wish we could have gotten that. I really wish that the Browns would just just get their shit together. But like, since they've tied a game that they should have won and since they, you know, Taylor did make a pretty damn good throw to. Galloway, I guess you saw that play on like fourth and five where he just winged it down the field like 70 yards Jake: That was pretty awesome. Anyway, I'm picking the just to win 24 21. I Just I I'm I have had you to and thankfully there's alcohol because I'll be able to Calm before that game because I'm I'm I'm just I have this really bad feeling but anyway 24 21 jets Alright, we'll be back next week. Oh Crap, oh, are you gonna be back on Friday? I'm traveling. I'm out You're flying somewhere. Yes, I'm flying on Friday early
1:00:00 Jake: You know this I don't know this You know this cuz I sent you an email would had all my flights in it so it was this Friday Justin: Yeah this Friday. Yeah, but we're gonna play on Thursday And then we'll have an entire 10 days to podcast before the next game. Oh next Friday. Yeah Jake: Yes, next Friday we could I'll be back Thursday night. You're coming back You're the one coming back Friday like I don't know what time to come back 6 a.m. Okay, so you'll be back I'll be back in the afternoon. All right. Well, maybe next Friday. All right until then as always Justin Jake saying Let's go, Chants. you
