09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. the longest running New York Jets podcast on the interwebs. My name is Jake, your host, and joining me today, very special guest host for the 107th time, is Justin. Justin, how you doing? Thanks for saying I'm special and a guest host. I thought I was like... Pretty permanent at this point. Nope day by day never know what's gonna happen Seven episodes in like four years. Nope could change it up. Anyway 108 could be someone else You never know you just got to keep it to top of your game, you know You're a free agent at this point reason why we're the longest running New York Jets podcast on the entire interweb Is that we're also the most consistent every week. We're here the same two schmoes Doing this podcast a broadcaster and a jet fan a broadcaster myself a jet fan Sorta yourself sorta I guess your jet fan ten times the family you are that's what you think you know I always say that but Trust me we put a poll on the way he is on your fancy football team. You're not a jet I could do the top 10 list of why you're not a Jets fan if Tom Brady's on your fantasy football team You're not a Jets fan. You see those pictures of Tom Brady with that with the What's it called ponytail if you're looking at pictures of Tom Brady on the Internet was on SportsCenter I'd like you look like a woman. Yeah, but if you don't throw a Brick at your TV when Tom Brady comes on SportsCenter. You're not throwing a brick at your 50 inch HD, 3D, plasma, super nitro TV, then you're stupid. Nitro? Yeah, my TV has nitro. Does yours have nitro? Mine doesn't have nitro. Mine has nitro in it. Wow. It'll be interesting when that nitro goes away. I wonder what kind of nitro you're gonna buy in your new TV. Well, no, my current TV is 58 inches. Oh, you're gonna get, oh, so wait, the 50 inch doesn't exist. No, that's what I'm gonna get. You're gonna get the nitro. Yeah, make sure to get the nitro. My currency is 58 inches. Alright, we got something to talk about. It's large and In charge nice it is This is a tough week. Not only do we have a like very little news because Generally, this is a very tough time for for for the NFL But now we're on this one week suspension wait for another week to see if anything happens. So like there's almost nothing going on except for the CBA. But we have a little bit of news. Sanchez, oh we'll just talk about the the Jess news where Sanchez helping out a friend, the CBA.
00 Jake: We have some, I think, signs of things to come in terms of streaming the NFL, which is good. And maybe we'll go over some mockety mocks. Talk about mockety mocks. I can't even talk about it. Why? It's gonna happen. Yeah, but we pick like 30th. It's so impossible to be like, here's who we're gonna pick. I read over the mocks, the culmination of mocks, and a lot of people, I think I had like seven of them or eight of them. there were two each that had us picking the same people. So I thought that was interesting. When you see them start to climb into one, even that just isn't even reading each other's mocks? Yeah, they're reading each other's probably. They're like, oh, we're at 30. Let's just, what's that guy say? Oh, OK. He says the same thing. That guy. Get the safety. All right. Get him. So I mean. Really very little news so much so that we have to talk about we didn't we didn't we didn't get? Bob Sanders That's true. He went to Diego, San Diego, San Diego Wow, San Diego has got some issues. I mean Panda watch Panda watch No, no Alright, so uh Sanchez goes out to help out his friend. You know what San Diego stands for? No Wells-Vagina Wow, okay This this podcast just went right down to so he went out and threw for uh for Scotty McKnight great white For the pro day Pro Days happened last week, so I watched a little bit on That is sad. I'm a fan. That is the worst the combine crap. The combine. Watch a guy run. Yeah, see how far he can jump Yeah, so stupid. I just think it's like if that was a jet you could run that high. It's so dumb. So dumb. Alright So I think, so really it all comes down to the CBA. So let's just talk about CBA and the news has come out of CBA. Last week they had a 24 hour period, I think right before our podcast last week, they had 24 hours. Then they extended it while last Thursday they extended it one day. They listened to the podcast, they were like, damn, look at the impact. And they were like, let's extend this another week. They extended it, well they extended it day at first to see if they should extend another week. Then they extended it another week. That's like a meeting to have another meeting. Yeah. with Let's get a meeting together so we can figure out what we're going to talk about in that meeting. What do you think? Let's do a pre-meeting. What do they call it? It's not a set an agenda, we'll set a time, whatever. So then they go back, so they took the weekend, they all worked from home, whatever. Then they went, they did. They didn't continue during the weekend. Because you know, no one works on the weekend. No one works on the weekend. So they pick up on Monday. It is today, Thursday. And the news is just out that they're going to extend it again. Which, uh, let's see. 110. At least they're talking. Yeah, I mean, I think here's the thing. If you're very, very far away, I think you just cancel. You just say, okay, we're going into battleships. See you later. Fuck you, fuck balls. But if you're getting close, it's like, okay,
03 Jake: let's just, let's spend another week because we're getting close. Couple of the pieces of news that come out one is it sounds like they've agreed to the rookie rate the rookie wage scale Which is? Again all those sports fans know rookies get paid too fucking much But basically they're only locking in first rounders for four years. We used to be able to lock them in for six So you can only be locked in for four and there will be some sort of pay scale that will allow you know teams to To not have to pay 20 40 million dollars or 20 million dollars guaranteed for jimarcus russell Which I think is good again. I inverting. If you're gonna pay money, I don't know who that is Who? I don't know. Did he play for the Jets? He did. No, I don't know who he is. Did he ever sack anybody? No. Is he in the stats book? Is he even in the stats book? He had a couple of special teams to add. Oh, Jesus. The ghost. But it is kind of strange, because the, you know, if you're going to ask me, should I pay $20 million to a rookie who has never played a fucking down in the NFL? or $20 million to a vet who has played five years and has played at a high level, it makes no sense to pay the rookie. Ahh! Yeah. Ahh! Yeah, pay the guy who's actually proven he can do it. Well, all right. I'm not talking about paying 35 year olds like T.T. Barber who's coming back. Let's think about it for a moment. You're running back who's been in the league for- That example, but I'm not. Why? Bye. It's an example. Oh, I can only pick good examples that prove your point. That's great. Okay, that's great. Great So you have a running back. He's been in the league five years He's 27 years old. Great. You have the average. If you picked him in the first round on the new rookie rate scale He'd be it'd be four years, but okay, go on Just try and help you out He's 26 years old. 26? 26 year old running back? Great. You have the opportunity to sign a 26 year old running back for five years or four years, whatever. Or the opportunity to sign a fresh-legged right out of college running back third overall for four years. You're saying you'd rather sign the 26 year old that's going to be on the... decline versus this guy who could just be potentially amazing. But no, because you're making an either or, you're signing either or. You can still go sign the new running back if you want. You just don't have to pay him $40 million if he turns into a bus, you know, paying $40 million. And you pick the one example of the one, one or the the position on the football team that is the most rundown and actually expires the first. But you didn't say, I have a 26 year old quarterback who has been playing very well and could read my team for the next 10 years versus picking up some schmo in the first round like Alex Smith, who's not going to do fuck off for anybody and paying him $40 million.
03 Jake: So it's very easy for... the people who are negotiating this deal to make this decision. Because they're already in the league. But they're protecting the people who are in the union. No, they're protecting themselves. Right. They're in the union. So it's a very easy decision for them. They're already passed. If you asked a college senior who's going into the draft this year, they would. They would not agree with the way that this is taking place. I totally agree. The college senior has nothing to say about this. Well, no. The guy who's already done, he's in this draft class. Yes. He should have come out last year. Fine. The NFL says you couldn't do that because you were a sophomore last year. Okay. You couldn't have done that any more. Then he's a junior this year. Sure. Stay one more year. Well, then you're getting screwed. It doesn't matter at that point. It's a very easy decision for these people to make. They've already gone through that. I got my rookie pay scale already. I already made $60 million on my first round when I was a first round pick. And now I'm going to say, you next guys, you don't deserve what I had. I don't think anybody deserves that. Whether it's Tom Brady picking the sixth round or whether it's... You didn't get it. I know. That's the point. But the point is, you should get paid for what... you do in the NFL by your performance in the NFL not for being a workout warrior or being the first pick because the first pick has to pay the fucking most money money. Yeah but what if you are a fourth-rounder that goes ape shit? Then in four years you get you get the big money then you're Duelle Rivas and you get money. When you get the first-rounder. He's gonna get money. He got his money and he'll get more money that's the point he's four years in he gets He gets reassigned for longer contracts. And look at how that worked under the old one. But you're saying that you don't get to pick them. You still get to pick them at that round and you still have to pay them a lot of upfront money because they might turn into a bust. But then later they're going to make more money. With Reedus, it worked out the same way. No. Actually we signed him to a six year contract because he was in the first round. And then he held out. And then he held out. So he would have just been a free agent and could have walked without us having any leverage. Next year. ... But that's not going to change. The point is, I don't think, so you disagree, you think that those first rounders, the Jake Longs, the last top, they paid $40 million. Why can't the owners just regulate themselves without having regulations on it? Like, why do you have to actually put rules in place that say that you can't? pay this person this much. Why can't you put the governor on yourself to say, you know what, I want to pay this person this much or I don't? Like why do you have to put a rule in place? Because it's a scale. It's a scale. Why has it got to be a scale? Because that's the way it was set up before. Oh. So it's got to be that way again. You don't really understand how it works. I don't think there should be a scale on the rookie the way that it works I think here's you pick a guy you should be able to pay him whatever you want to pay him Here's another reason for whatever you want to do no more fucking holdouts for rookies If there's a scale meaning you're picked and it'll be probably based on position you're picked quarterback number one
01 Jake: First round you get blah, you can't put the position in there. Yeah, that's what he's done now. Yeah, it's not escaping more than yes they do if a quarterback gets paid. But it's not like written in writing. Yes it is. No way. There's not like a chart that you can say quarterback 13 this is how much he gets paid. No fucking way. Well the ones underneath them get paid by how much the one above them got. And they always judge it based on the years prior. So they go look at. Right. I don't see why this actually needs to be like in writing. Why can't they just. regulate themselves and why does this have to be like rules like it doesn't make sense to be able to regulate themselves you're not listening here's why I don't want to listen to you okay here's why you are dumb because you don't want this you don't want the whole that I'm gonna hit you in the fucking face You don't want the holdouts to hold out into camp and make that whole big stink about trying to go for this contract or that contract. You want the wage and the contract, the length of the contract and the type of contract that's going to be, to be set. So then, NFL starts more easily, training camps go in, you don't have Dwayne Bowes and Droll Rivas and, I mean, Jamarcus I think he's he held out all these holdouts waiting for this big fucking contract go into to go into their first year, you want it to be set. So if you're quarterback number one, you get a four year block contract. Your right tackle number two, you get a four year block contract. And that's it. Then you go in, you bust your ass, and in four years you make a ton of fucking money if you're good, if you're shit. the team gets to get rid of you and not lose their shirt doing it. And they can take the money that they were going to dump into that $40 million to Marcus Russell and they can turn around and pay the Nick Mangolds, the David Harrisons, the whatever. Don't do it all again. Why? Because it puts like a chart on it where it really should be your own smart. Well you're dumb if you 1. Overall, I'm paying $70 million. You're dumb. You're a mistake. No one says you have to choose them. No one says you had to choose them. Who said the Raiders had to choose Russia? It's not about what you choose. It doesn't matter who you pick, number one. You're going to be the most amount of money in the entire and it's going to raise the amount of money Because that's what the money was the year before. Because that's what the free market has allowed to happen. Yeah, but it's your market. the negotiating the contracts with the players. the players union has a say and that's why if you take the players union and the NFL and you come to an agreement about rookie pay scale Which has already been done Then then it takes the onus and all that bullshit around trying to get these guys to sign at certain dates and just says
02 Jake: This is what you get you come out you get this and you go when you're free agent in four years I feel like it shouldn't be so sad I feel like fine it helps no, it's like hey brainless monkey Here's the chart and if you're gonna pick this guy then this is what you pay right? No, I think you should be able to determine. I mean what business really runs like that Tons of business run like that If you have like you have said lawyer called at the NBA like this, but you know the NBA runs like this, right? They have a contract No shit dummy, I know the NBA better than you know anything. If I know anything, anything at this point. If stud lawyer comes out of Harvard Law School and is being, you know, law firms across the country can pay him whatever the fuck they want to pay him. But if he goes there and he's goof-tard... and he's fucking reincarnation of Bobby Boberson, then he's the- You know that in the current agreement, they have to sign first rounders for six years, right? So it is already set. I don't like it. Okay, but that's the way it was. I don't like it. It now makes it set, but at least it's set for the amount of years, which is already set today. You have to sign first rounders for six years. It should be variable. You should be able to do whatever you want. Okay. Okay. Well that, no national football league, no players unions can be like, yeah you can sign me to a month by month contract. It's like having a lease. The players don't want to be under something that's so non-negotiable that they can just be, that owners can get out of it any moment in time. They want them to agree to it. They want to have some sort of standard. But you could get cut at any time anyway. Yes, but that's what guaranteed money is about. You get a contract with guaranteed money. But that's not to do with the years. That has nothing to do with years. Yes, it is, because the guaranteed money is based on the years. No, it's not. Yes, it is. You've guaranteed money based on every year. You have guaranteed signing bonus, and then you have guaranteed. Please, can you hear me? stops along those years that makes it worthwhile. I could cut you after year one and you get nothing. No, because in your contract, if it says there's a bonus to get And what's it have to do with the years? Because if they cut you before a certain point, they have to pay you a certain amount. I feel like neither of us really know what we're talking about. I feel like at this point, I know about 15,000 times more than you do, and it's like me talking to a monkey. I feel like I feel like It's literally trying to explain physics to a monkey. It's like literally, I will have to break out the hand puppets. Don't make me break out. Sally Simmer Sally Simerson Sally Simmer down what Simmer Sally. Well you've tried to speak English have you lost all cognitive ability at this point yes move on all right move on already I'm just sick of this stupid thing just sign out care bad has been agreed to honestly I really don't give a shit I don't care what it's saying that's all the other thing that's off the table is 18 18 games Great, whatever. I don't care just fucking do it so that the season really happens. I don't care. I really don't
01 Jake: Honestly don't as a fan. I really don't care what it says You don't I honestly don't care what you don't care if it goes 18 games. You know, you're fit No, just don't give me less than 16 I really don't care. It's 18 it's 18 if it's 16 and 16. You're also... okay. So as a fan, you don't care. You don't care how many games it is, how it changes the game. The game's a little bit, but this whole rookie win... It changes. I don't give a shit. Just make it happen. I want... When September comes around, I want to turn my TV on on Sunday and have some fucking football. You're sounding like Bob Rock'em, sock'em, football. What you're not understanding is that these are the things that are locking up this agreement that is stopping your Rock'em, sock'em, football. And I don't care about these things. I don't care. Then why are we discussing them? Because you brought them up. Alright, what would you like to discuss? Bobby Boberson is starting a left-hand corner. Alright, next topic will be picked by Justin. Fucking Bobby Boberson. Let's talk about it. What do you think of Bobby? We're signing? I don't know. I'm just gonna have dead air. Is that what we're gonna do? You're picking the next topic. You're picking the next topic. You don't want to talk about Bobby Boberson. Is that what you're saying? Why don't we go to the mock draft then? Since it's gonna happen. The draft. Do you want to talk about the draft? I'm just gonna stare at me. I don't know, you're picking the next topic. Go for it. Ahh, mock draft it is. You know, you're a shitty broadcaster for all that broadcasting. It's a shitty job of broadcasting. Well, if I'm having a partner that's just gonna stare at me... It's kind of stupid. I was trying to have an educated conversation about the CBA. Well, I don't really, I don't know enough about it. I'm not a lawyer. I don't know what these things are. I don't know what they mean. Most broadcasters, most broadcasters just go, you know what, I don't really care. I don't care. Whatever, I'm out of here. Fuck this news. I don't care. I honestly don't. I'm- Most broadcasters, you're right. They don't care about something. I'm reverting back. I'm not being a broadcaster. I'm being a fan. And as a fan, we're- I really don't care. I just want to know that there will be football as a broadcaster You suck balls as a fan. You suck two balls go ahead Not bad. I don't even know who these guys are I know Mel Kiper jr. And Todd McShae more than I know Rachim Moore and Phil Taylor like I don't even know who these guys are I could just go on the positions they got a safety they have a nose tackle they have an outside linebacker Another safety the same guy. That's what I said that another nose tag interesting same guy defensive end outside linebacker, which is the same guy Defensive end slash defensive tackle honestly what I would do I'd pick An outside linebacker a defensive end one of those two positions that rushes the quarterback. Whether it be an outside linebacker that plays the outside on 3-4 that's gonna be blitzing or the defensive end that is gonna be
00 Jake: rushing the quarterback, that's fine. I think it also hinges on, I would pick defense. I don't... think we need well if you look there's nobody on this mock draft that's not a defensive player yeah I think at this point we're gonna do it all nose tackle or we're gonna be a defensive you know that's gonna be our team is defensive I think you should pick another corner fuck it let's just keep picking corners just picked one in the first round I'm not convinced that he's not gonna be good so it's it pick another one I don't know if you need another one of those but I would say the the lineman is a good bet Or the linebacker like the Jason Taylor replacement Phil Taylor nice pixel to Interesting that to again two guys going for Phil Taylor. Sorry two guys going for a he Morris the safety from UCLA You know both Charles Davis and milk hyper going for that I think that's interesting because you know, you know Jim Leonard's getting better. He's coming back, but it's I think Maybe looking at the end of the season, although I don't know how you would say this is going into the playoffs, but it looked like the loss of Jim Leonard really was hugely effective, meaning it hurt our team a lot. We went from being a team that could win the East to a team that had to back in and kind of like, there was no backing. Whatever we had to back in there's no backing in they won. They won in Pittsburgh To get in that's a big win. We won against Patriots. We would have only feel fucking advantage. Oh, that's what happens is 45 3 That was so that was like the game. I just find it interesting that you know, no segals obvious Chris Jenkins Clearly not you know not on the team not on the team and not really like you know didn't do a lot so. He's still in a pool log from playing nose tackle. He's good at it. It's true it's true but is he the dominating guy that we're looking for? He's pretty good. But pretty good isn't dominating. Like we're going for the dominant. I don't know would you rather have here's the question would you have would you rather have rookie nose tackle and poo at defensive end slash Sean Ellis at defensive end or would you rather have Pua at nose tackle and new pass rusher guy at defensive end like what would you do you understand what I'm asking yeah I think cuz I'd rather have new flashy guy at defensive end and Pua at nose tack yeah I heard burning Galston's brother burn burning Galston burden It's going to be available. Barney Gholston? I almost, you know, under your own tutelage, under the 107 times that you said, big fat guys. Big fat guys. So why not go get a big fat guy? We have one. Go get a... I think corners and big fat guys, you can't do enough. You should stack the big fat guys on the bottom of the corners on top. Just put them on top of each other. The only thing to say is there's going to be a lot of other guys. There's going to be a lot of other guys. There's going to be a lot of other guys. There were a couple other guys that were, you know...
03 Jake: injured, remember that guy, like Ropati, something or other that was hurt in the... Would anybody know anything about him other than Hard Knocks? I remember him from two years ago. I mean he played and he seemed to be getting better according to Hard Knocks. Like this guy's getting better. So maybe they have a different view on what they need versus... What these so-called professional Mel Kiper Todd these guys are broadcasters these guys are morons. They do one thing All year long and like this time of year. They're like gods like oh Mel Kiper Mel Kiper jr.. You're so smart like Why doesn't he work for a team if he's that smart? and like knows everything. He's a broadcaster. You're so smart. You don't work for a team. No. There's a lot of broadcasters who are former like coaches and things like that. He's just an idiot. Have you seen his hair? It's glorious. It's like Cat Riley. It's awesome. It's awesome. All right. What else we got? You got it? Is that it for a few words? We've made fun of each other enough today. This has been a coming out of sorts. You're no longer a broadcaster. take that time I'm a fan now forget broadcast fuck broadcasting oh wow so I'm a fan I just want how much we just back how many times that that lasted like how many episodes do you call your four or five okay I want this agreement to just be signed I don't care about the details of it I don't actually care about it right most fans Most fans don't. No, they just want to know that there'll be football on the field. The fans who listen to a podcast and the off-season... No, these people don't care about the details either, I guarantee it. They just want to know that there will be Jets football when the season comes and it's not Bobby Boberson starting at left tackle. Can't wait for Bobby Boberson. Seriously, if... How great would it be? If we could find a guy named Boberson? If there was, yeah, if we had replacement players, they don't sign the stick. And Boberson ended up starting. I'd get a Boberson jersey. Forget it. I'd have a Boberson jersey. We need to get one anyway. Yeah, I think we should get a Boberson. Put it up in our tail. Absolutely. Check Kingdom tailgate, come into a parking lot near you. Speaking of that, they sent out the tickets. This year they're doing, I think it's the Jets, I think I mentioned this last time, but the Jets are doing a really good job. They're basically only, they're doing, you can do automatic withdrawal and they're spacing out over six payments and if nothing gets signed by June 15th, they'll wait and then wait until there's a game then they'll charge you then. I think it's actually kind of respectable. It's kind of cool. You know, it's not like, hey, why don't you just pay us, and if there's no football, we'll write you a check. Oh, I'm heading to the stadium in a couple weeks. So you see an event. I'm seeing a soccer match. You get a broadcast event? No, I'm sitting in the, uh, I'm sitting in the club. So I'll let, you know, I'll let everyone know what I think of the club on the 200, the 200 level club right where, like next to where are, are your... season tickets are, I'll be in that corner of the club. That actual one or one over?
01 Jake: That side just around the bend. So not in our corner of the opposite corner. If I had Boku Bucks, I'd have fucking club seats. Well I'm sitting in the second row down in the corner. I'd go to the 30 or the 40 yard line and I'd walk right up into my nice warm whatever get my sand mitts and I'd come back out. I mean we were at, I think, two or three rain games this year. And two of them were like, it hurt. It was raining so hard. Oh, the Vikings game? Oh my god, that was terrible. How hard it was raining. And uh, I mean... Baltimore, but it was later in the season. I think it was the Miami game. No, it was really raining. It didn't rain in Miami. Sure. That was the win game, it didn't rain at the game, it was probably nice during the game. The Baltimore one it rained and the Vikings one it rained. I think it was the two night game, so that was Baltimore. Yeah. That Viking one was fun. So bad. It hurt. It rained so hard it hurt. And we could have used some club seats there. I don't know. It takes away from the experience. I just love sitting out there, you and I, there's no one else around us. Yeah, there's no one else out there. Just literally just, they're all back up underneath the cover. It's like, whatever. It's water. Water doesn't hurt me. I had a garbage bag on. We had ponchos. Awesome stuff. Alright, let's wrap it up. Because there's nothing fucking going on in football until these fuckballs get this CBA signed off. jettkingdom.com, twitter.com slash jettkingdom, twitter.com slash jettkingdom, facebook.com slash jettkingdom, and go to itunes, subscribe to the jettkingdom podcast, longest running podcast on the interwebs, and until next week, and as always, until the 108th episode, motherfuckers, go JETs!
