09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Jake: Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. Longest Running Jets podcast on the entire interweb and other places like the series of tubes. I'm Jake and joining me tonight is Justin. Justin, how you doing? Wonderful. Thank you. As I sniffle. We've got lots of news, so let's get to it. Let's just get into the news. Do it. Because we don't have a lot of time. We only got a lot of news. Lots of Jet stuff this week. People we released. Who are they? Flitted list, go. We released Woody. Woody Johnson? Woody Johnson. We released our owner. How did we release the owner? Released our owner of his duties. We released our starting right tackle. Which is interesting, yeah, lose the right tackle. He sort of tailed off towards the end of last year and was injured a little bit, but he's pro-ball caliber, or all, you know, very good. They moved, they're gonna move to Kase. I think we're gonna have Turner or Hunter. I can never remember which one's which. We'll probably start it right tackle and Dukas will battle for the job. We.ll see if he can get it. I think he played tackle in college, so lackluster for him. So we'll see how that goes, save some money there. Another guy who was cut, Jason Taylor prospective expected. I think we signed him for two years. Like the first year was like no money. The second year was like $40 million. Yeah, he's gonna get like a $10 million dollar signing bonus. Yeah, so that's to be expected. I remember I read it to you, you like. Yeah, he's not gonna get that no and the other guy who's kind of a big news that we cut him Deserves to be cut Vernon, Galston three years zero sacks Sorry, dude number six overall pick would you have to be a rusher? You can't fit Rex Ryan can't make you better in two years. You're no good Yeah, I mean this will really piss me off if he goes to another team and it's like a monster because if Rex Ryan couldn't make him into a better player. He's just not going to play. And we tried everything we could with him. We tried and moved him around. He got to start. He got to play defensive end. He got to play outside linebacker. He got to play inside. He changed his number. I mean, he tried all sorts. He worked out. He went running. He changed his number. He did everything he possibly could to be better. He changed his number to number 50. I literally, I am not in the shape to play in the NFL right now. as a thirty nine thirty what am I thirty eight year old male but if I change my number I could play right tackle you probably could oh my god if you could play right tackle right next to our right guard Bob Boberson
03 Jake: Bob Boberson Bob Boberson was a hit last week how the fuck you doing Bob Boberson Bobby Boberson and Sally Salerson were hits on the Twitter birds last week. I think they got married since and it's now Bobby and Sally Boberson. Sally Boberson. Sally Boberson. She wears the number 69 and plays on the offensive line. We love Sally. And we digress. And we digress. So overall... Gholston is a... I mean the only one that I think is Woody. Damien Woody is the only person I think that kind of... You almost didn't see coming. Gholston we knew was coming. He was deactivated for games going into the postseason and in the end of the game... end of the season. Taylor, we knew that was a one year... Although he's now talking that the only way he would play is for us. So again, this is not a, this isn't a we don't love you, Taylor. This is a... We signed you to a deal that we knew we were only going to sign him for one year. And if you want to come back, fine. We'll take you at the veteran discount. So let's... the veteran discount. The veteran, you're getting really old and you don't know how to get to the stadium. Maybe this year you would. Yeah, you figured out. Yeah, what's your gut on Taylor? My gut is that he looked... to me to be finished. So, you want... we needed a really explosive pass rusher at that position and Taylor was a veteran who knew how to play football and was okay, but what we really need is a guy who could get 10 to 12 sacks out of that position and we just didn't get it. And I also think... We... because of the pace injury, he was a little overworked early in the season, right, and played more downs than he probably anticipated. Right. We anticipated. I didn't even play. So that probably affected or impacted his output towards the end of the season. He was solid. He played every game. Played through injury. Solid. I don't really care if he comes back. To be honest, of all these guys, the one I... is Woody. I think keeping continuity on the offensive line is a good thing. But if you're gonna save a lot of dough and be able to sign, you know, a pass rusher or... You know, I think it's very important to keep Cromartie, Holmes and Edwards. So we'll touch on that in a minute. So if you can cut Woody to keep three guys, I think it's worth doing. Yep, and I think that's a position that, all in all I have to say is if you can just replace my theory that I just made up, you can just replace one piece every year, you know, because eventually you're going to have to replace every part, but it's like a car. You want to replace a little piece here, and then it looks so, you're not replacing the whole car at once, you're just kind of slowly replacing the pieces. You don't want to replace your left tackle or your center. Well, you have to. We did it one year. Eventually you're going to have to. But you'd like for those two pieces to stay together for a long, long time. Ten plus. You want those guys in there for a long, long time. You want to be good.
00 Jake: Right guard, left guard, whatever. Right tackle, a little bit more important. Yeah. Yeah. Our quarterbacks are righty, so not as important. So, whatever. Who's coming back? LT's coming back. Yeah. I don't know how I feel about that. I don't mind. He had a productive season. Productive season. But I mean, if you just think about it. What I'd like to see is next year, him play a little less. Yeah. Strong green play a little more. Maybe sprinkle in a little Joe McKnight here and there. McKnight had like that one or two. The Bills gave me. You went crazy. You went crazy. So I mean, apparently he can play. So I'd like to like rest LT a little. But he's important. He's good out of the backfield. Sing like a good leader. Probably teaching these guys a thing or two good in the good in the in the locker room You know, we lost Thomas Jones a good locker room guy, but LT seemed to be a good locker room guy Yeah, so I don't think we really missed out here or there Between the two and LT has it's a little bit more dynamic of a player. He could catch the ball He had a bunch of like big catches. So now the rumor was that Jenkins was going to be cut Yeah, I didn't see Jenkins cut. All I know is he wants to come back. Yeah, he wants to come back from injury, but as he gets cut, injury, cut out, whatever. Cut salary? Yeah. Cut and then sign you back for a lot less money with incentive-laden contract? Yeah, like... That might be the case. Your eighth play, if you're still on the field, on your eighth play, you get all the money in the world. If you're on the field... During a playoff game. No, during a playoff game. If you play any regular season game and a playoff game and you weigh less than 380 pounds We will give you a bonus for every pound under 380. That's a hundred grand. That's a hundred Every snap you play in the postseason another hundred grand I mean, I wish that I there's all seen like good ideas. We go to 18 games. Let's go to 18 games I think we should have the rule the reverse IR Yeah I want them you just put people on and then in the playoffs you get to you get to activate them Not in the playoffs, but like week 12. Okay week 12. Yeah, I still a risk with him. Yeah, seven plays I don't even know if it was seven. We keep saying seven. Oh, I think it was five. We were there. It's like, oh, this guy's out already. Oh, there he goes. Alright, let's talk about some tenders. We did some chicken tenders. Chicken tenders. So what do we got? We got San Antonio Homes first and a third. And Cromartia first and a third. Those are high. That's a lot to ask for two guys that we picked up for much less. Can you explain this? for the studio audience? My understanding is that if you're going to take them, you need to give us those amounts in the draft. You give us? So you San Francisco 49ers, for whatever reason, pick them. You decide you need Antonio Cromarti. You sign Antonio Cromarti. We get your first and third, or a first and third at the end of the rounds or whatever. No, we get your first and... Well, they don't have another... That's great. I love that. So that means that... I mean, if you want to sign homes, you're giving up some serious shit.
00 Jake: Which makes it harder for other people to sign up. We took for a fourth. Yeah, well, he had some... I mean, him and Kromarti both had some issues. I think we took Kromarti for something. It turned into a second. It turned into a second. It was making the playoffs. Interesting. Okay, Brad Smith in a second. Okay. Brad Smith was tendered for a second. For a second. Yeah. Callan Clemens a third. Wow. Thank you. I mean, he's gonna be signed somewhere else. Count Clemens? He's a service school backup. Drew Eric Smith, third round. Drew Coleman, sixth round. How do people get around this? So like what if you want to sign these guys? Sign them. But then you have to give us the pick because we tendered them. Yeah. Which means we're in the driver's seat with all these guys. Right. For the most part. I mean who's gonna give us the second round pick for... or a third round pick for a backup quarterback in Callen-Plennan's when you can just draft a backup quarterback. Well because you think that there's, you think that it's a chicken and egg thing. It's a little bit like chicken and egg tenders. Well it's... Is that the name of our podcast? I think it is. Chicken and egg tenders. It's good. It's basically putting, you know, you want to put enough that, well it depends if you... It's two ways. One is you want to put enough on somebody that if they get taken it's not going to destroy your team. But you might want to put a little bit on somebody that maybe you want something for that you would cut anyway. Or you're not going to, meaning you're not going to use them anyway and you don't really care. Okay, if I got a third round pick for it, I might, you know. That sounds great. I mean... If we lose homes, at least we get properly compensated. I just think it's interesting we got him for a fourth. Well, he had some personal... Just personal issues that don't disappear. He also missed the first four games of the season. That's true. And that, you know, that had an impact on how much value... Nick Folt, sixth round. Whatever you're... Double whatever. Your boy, James. Hehdebo. Hehdebo, low tender, UDFA, so right off the first refusal. Now I'll say I don't know what that, I don't know the rules on that. I'm just a fan, I'm just a simple fan, you're just a stupid broadcaster. I'm a broadcaster and I don't even know what that is. And Rob Turner, same thing. Do we tender like Sean Ellis? Nope, just those guys. Really? Yep. Wow, that's interesting. So that's, yeah, sort of our ways of giving them tender, so. We're saying it's compensation required if another team signs them, right? As restricted. They're not unrestricted. We want to keep these guys. These are restricted free agents, not unrestricted. They seem unrestricted to me. Well, they're not unrestricted. Unrestricted means they're gone. Restricted means they're restricted by these tenders. Chicken and egg tenders. I don't think that's what that means, but alright. We'll leave that to whatever smarter people than us. Yeah, so chickens was cut. Alright, so he's cut. But he wants back. He wants back. Well, no one else is going to take him, so it's sort of... Here, we'll give you a couple buckets of chicken. Yeah. I don't know. So let's talk about other people's buckets of chickens, and then we... I'm going to give a good sagué.
00 Jake: Colonel Sanders? Yes. Chicken and eggs. Chicken and egg. Colonel Sanders. With Colonel Sanders. Wow. That's too long. It was good to do Colonel Sanders. That was no too long. We don't make the rules. You need Colinell Sanders? We break them. It's Chicken and Egg. Bob Sanders is visiting the Jets. Yes. You said in the last podcast that... No! This guy is super high risk. Super high reward. Maybe if we do you know him with Jenkins? Yep? No way to double reverse. They'll play two and a half games combined This is like if you have some balls and you want to take a super risk on a guy I Mean this guy to put it's a place of need for us this guy could play when he's playing. When he's playing he's literally a stopper. I love the eraser. He just erases bad plays because he just literally knocks guys out. I mean if you have him and Jimbo Leonard as your two safeties and Cromartie and Rivas on the other on the two side. You know that Rex Ryan's having wet dreams about that. Oh man I saw some tweets like his nipples are going soggy like all sorts of weird stuff. I think that just made my neck nipples go soggy. Yeah, I mean part of you as a fan. I feel like Yeah, I'm on both sides like we have we have some players It's gonna be like a stomach punch though when he's laying there in game two and you're like Shit, we just bag everything. He's a guy. Just I want to club on the head in training camp and wake and wake him back up You know, we can. You don't have that spot. That thing doesn't exist. That agency is on your active roster. So, healthy and ready to go. That hasn't played for like a year. Here's the deal. If we could sign up for little to no money with incentives and... We're not banking on them, meaning we have serious backup plan, disaster recovery plan for this. What's the plan? Meaning you have... We all meet out by the parking lot? Meaning you go into the season and you say, okay, we have Bob Sanders, he's our starting safety. But we know that he's gonna get hurt, so we also have this guy who's also our starting safety. And if you've never had to use that other guy, Pool, Smith, Joe Blow, then fine. Great. Bobby Boberson? Bobby Boberson is waiting on the sideline as our safety. But that's, I think, how you have to play. You have to play it as if you're signing him to be your backup. You're not starting him, you're not signing him to be a starter, you're signing him to be a backup that can have serious upside and then surprise you in camp and he turns out to be your starter, but you still have your projected starter sitting there. Because you can't, you can't have him, you can't like, you can't say, alright, this guy's gonna be the starting safety and we're gonna be awesome because we're having Bob Sanders for 16 games, because it's not gonna happen.
01 Jake: No, I don't think he's played a full season in what, two, three years now? God, he was like the defensive player of the year in 2007, and I don't think he's played a full season since. It's just kind of odd, like how does that happen to one guy and the other guys can just play forever? Because he's an animal. He's, I mean, he's all up in... The system is... he's on the line of scrimmage. He's a guy who's throwing himself against 320-pound guys and taking on fullback blocks every other play. He's just getting killed. Speaking of getting killed... Tomorrow, midnight. CBA runs out. CBA runs out. There will be no... whatever union it is. Let me throw one twist in this as I was listening. I forgot where I was driving, but I was listening to Serious NFL radio. It's just NFL radio. You must have been driving because you only listen in the car. That's true. And the one thing they were throwing out there as a possible, like, could do was that the players could basically, I'm not gonna say disband, but vote against the Union. say we are no longer a part of the union and sort of say we want to take, we want to break the union and we'll just agree to the terms of the last best offer that the NFL put out there. Basically saying we're not going to take, we're not going to follow the union's path, we're kind of going to spend a couple years in court battling the union. But we're going to play football, and we're going to go ahead and take whatever the last offer is that the NFL... There is no way that happens. Well... Let me tell you, this would... This would never happen in baseball. Like, baseball, that would never happen. I can't imagine the football players being like, scream... It wasn't their baseball strike like 40 years ago. Scream our own union. 10 years ago. It was like 15. years ago, 17 years ago. Wasn't that the year that actually the football became the number one sport in America? How you been? But there's no way that the football players decide we're disbanding our union. Well, I don't think it's disbanding the union, but it could be like, we'll start a new union. I don't know. It runs out tomorrow. Why start a new union? Why not just change the current world? I don't think there's going to be a deal. Again, no pressure. Other than there's a lockout now and people have to go train at home, everybody's sort of got their home gym or their gold pass. Other than that, not being able to talk to the players, I don't know. I think we're going to see... The point is, if it doesn't get done by tomorrow night, it's going to be a while. I don't think you'll see after the draft. Because to be honest, the draft still happens. People can still plan for the draft. So it's not like they have to It's after that when things stop happening, like workouts and small training camps. I think you can start to June, then you start to build a lot of pressure. I wonder if other things like the chance of assistant coaches are not going to be paid. Well, there's going to be furloughs and there's going to be, yeah, the NFL is going to take furloughs. Kind of sucks. Yeah, well it sucks, but if people can't split up $9 billion, idiots.
01 Jake: Idiots. That could be a podcast too. Alright, we're running out of time. We'll be back next week. As always, Jet Kingdom. JetKingdom.com, just Jet Kingdom, Jet Kingdom, Twitter.com, Jet Kingdom, and on iTunes, leave a great review. Love you very much. As always, go Jets!
