13 Jake: Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Justin: running New Jess podcast on the entire interwebs. I'm your host Jake joining me on this Monday of celebration, the day after the jagging of the jags, Justin, just jagging of the jag wires. Jake: You're fucking stupid. Justin: Is my co-host for at least the next four minutes to I've count his face in Justin. How you doing Justin? I had to get that curse in there. I guess. Early. Yeah, I started off. I had to get it in early. Jake: No, don't wanna- Jiggity jagged jaguars. Not so good. It's uh, no. They're not a good team at all. They're one in one though. They win. How they beat the Titans? A lot of teams this week won without winning. How they beat the Titans, not of New York Jets. Justin: I don't know. So let's talk a little agenda. So it is Monday after a win. And the Jets played on Sunday and that means you're gonna get a little pod as we were saying at the beginning of last podcast We were just listening to that's sad that we listen to ourselves. We only listen to see how we sounded Oh, yeah, we said it all good. So we're gonna keep this snowball right here where it is in between us Uh, we're talking about the Jets vs. Jagged game make our play of the game king and native the game pick a toggle some stats, some injuries. Then we'll talk about some other round the league stuff that will probably become old news by the time we record our next podcast, which will be on Friday when we make all our picks for the week and do all that kind of stuff. So, oh yeah, we can talk about tonight's game and then we're gonna throw in some random banter. It's right there on the agenda. It is actually. Random banter. Someone said that they actually liked our random banter. Yeah. So why wouldn't you like a random banter? Yeah. So here you go. More random mentors. An hour and a hour and a half. Did actually someone say they wanted to do an entire Jake: podcast of just what just NFL podcast? What was that? No no. See yesterday I was watching the Manchester United Chelsea match. Football. Football. Fuck. Justin: which was on at 11 a.m. Eastern to lead into the NFL game. How can you be a fan and not be watching the pregame shows? Jake: Because I don't need them. I was watching live awesome premiership football. And it's, you know, the two top teams in England and they were playing each other and you know what's interesting? You know what I'm saying? The game was on Fox soccer channel at 11 live. Fox proper. Fox proper. proper. put it on at two nationally against the NFL. If you didn't have a Fox game at one o'clock, yeah, so like for us, you know, the Giants weren't on. There was no, there was no, um,
02 Jake: regional Fox game because the Giants are on tonight at Monday night football. So they put, they put Chelsea Manchester United on at two o'clock on Fox. Justin: It's really interesting. Jake: I think a lot of people do as a matter of fact. I got a tweet talk about it. So that's what it was I thought it was saying we should do a full foot. I did air quotes football Justin: I'm not air quote because they're real cool. Yeah, we do we could do a podcast about me talking for 20 minutes Exactly. And you suck! And why do you watch a pussy sport? Oh my gosh. How dare you? Alright, so let's get to it. Jaguar versus the Jets. Jets coming off a big win against the... A last minute second win against the Cowboys. Coming off 16 games without scoring a touchdown in the first... I knowis one of those games that I went into thinking I wasn't nervous. I was nervous. I wasn't nervous. I was nervous. I was nervous. And I know it's weird, but every game, no matter how bad or there is something, or something, if this or that, the Oakland Raiders, which are next week, but I remember thinking that Oakland game that we went out there and just went out there. I think we shut them out. I was still nervous about it because the Oakland Raiders because on the road this game I could not think of anything to be nervous about they got rookie quarterbacks galore There's no rookie. Well, no the guy behind him. He's not a rookie, but he's not usually don't worry about the backup quarterback being I always do why what concerns you about the backup quarterback. The only thing that's really destroyed us with them is the running back and he's taken it to us a few times so I think it was stop him and see if this the other McCown can throw. One of the McCown brothers. Like the McPoyles. Can we get them on the same team? Get the mannings and the McCowns on the opposite teams and play each other. I'll take the mannings, even Eli, even mouth breathing Eli. You would take Eli, he'll be on tonight. So yeah, it was basically a dominating defensive match. And Rex decided if we win the coin toss, we're taking the ball. And they did. There's been lots, I don't know how these stats, like on one week no one talks about it, but the next week it becomes the stats to talk about, but the 16 games of not scoring a touchdown in the first quarter has become like a stat that I can. hearing over and over again. Yeah, I don't know why they decided that this Jake: would be the week that they bring it up because I guess last week they had other things to talk about because before last week guess what it was 15 games. Yeah, I guess when you get to 16 games that's the game you want to really... I guess it's when you get through a full season they want to talk about it but anyway you know we said it's a point of emphasis. Where did you watch the game? My parents house. Yeah, you weren't with me. I wasn't with you. I had to run some errands and I ended up I was actually working so I had to do some real work and then I paused at one o'clock and waited till halftime jump back in do some more work paused
00 Jake: Lots to rest. Justin: Nice you're in the industry you can actually work and pause. Yeah, I can pause. Well I was also working on Sunday. You must be a truck driver. No. Just drive and then stop and then watch again. Jake: No, I mean I say that like I was also working on Sunday. I know plenty of people work on Sunday, but you know, I'm an office job, traditionally, sort of. I can work from home if I'd like, and I just happen to have to work on Sunday, so I was just doing my thing, and then stopped and watched the game, and it was one of those... I could have just worked through it, because it was such a laid back, like, all right. As soon as they scored the opening drive touchdown and then immediately got the safety it was like Justin: Yeah, this game is just done. Yeah, it's not really an app. So I was at the game Jake: There one field goal there three points was on like a 56 yard field goal. Yeah, so like okay We were you know, like three yards from shutting them out. Jaguars never got to the just 20 Justin: Basically they never even got a drive going. They had no yards. They never had a sustainable drive. Jake: And if you look at their yards, their actual total net yards, 203. I mean granted, we had 283. That's because we started at their 20 a couple times. Do we have like average? average start Justin: But Luca went Jake: Six for nineteen his quarterback rating was less than the amount of points that they scored 1.5 I think and when you scored three points, you don't want your rating to be below Justin: I don't think you ever want your rating to be below the amount of points you score. You score like 70 Okay, but still that's not great. So, you know, obviously not very good, zero touchdowns, four picks, four interceptions, which is a couple of really bad ones. You know, M.G.D., M.J.D., 18 carries for 88 yards. It was effective. Jake: If they were, if the game was close, it would have been a different story. Justin: Yeah, I mean, averaging 4.9 is kind of a lot. No, no big receivers the biggest receiver Mike Thomas for through exceptions for 29 yards They didn't really do much. Yeah put it that way and on the jet side we had Sanchez going 17 completion to 24 180 yards two touchdowns and Jake: Two interceptions, okay. I mean yeah 70 70 percent completion. That's like way good for him. Now at one point he was like 13 for 15 with two interceptions. It was like he hasn't thrown an incomplete pass that's hit the ground yet and it was very weird. It was like oh so he's thrown all these completions and two incompletions and both incompletions were caught by the other team. So he didn't really throw much in the second half he didn't have to. I actually thought he played better than the statistic show and even though he had those two picks They weren't really a big deal. One of them was a bad throw. The other one was a good play
00 Jake: By the defense. Yeah, so to me, yeah, whatever he threw two picks He also threw for two touchdowns and ran the ball got the got him look the team scored what they scored 32 Yeah, he didn't play bad. You scored 32 points your quarterback played better than oh Justin: Going to pace I think that the the two picks again I haven't actually seen any of the replay stuff because I've been I was home and I was watching other games and I Saw stuff on like, you know, not with SportsCenter, but not like I haven't sat down watched You haven't got to take the first pick was Jake: He was fooled. Yeah, like there's a bracket coverage just like we did to Romo the week before and he didn't see it Right. The second one was just a good play by the... One I'd say clearly unmarked, the other one just better defense. Better defense. Yeah. Which is fair, you know. Defense can play good. Justin: Yeah, he ran for 29 yards. He averaged 9.7 yards for Kerry. That's pretty good. Sean Green, I think. He also got hit out of bounds late by Dwight Lowry. Dwight Lowry. The Dwight Lowry sighting. Jake: I was wondering what number he'd be. It's 25. 25. They have two former Jets secondary players from just last year. It can't be Justin: that good. Coleman and Dwight Lowry. If they were good we wouldn't have let them go. No, that was cornerback number four and five. Right. John Green 16 carries 49 yards. I like the number Jake: of carries. I don't really like the output. I like the touchdown. There was not very good blocking. again and losing mangled doesn't help. Justin: Yeah, we'll talk about that in a second. Turner played like complete shit. The other thing would be Dustin Keller, you know, on my fantasy, I think I had a great, I mean, you can't go wrong with that. 101 yards, I mean, six receptions, one TD, although Gonzalez was light enough. He had like two or three tips. Jake: He had one, both of his touchdown catches were really good catches. One of them was outstanding. Justin: So anything stand out to you about this game? Whether it's just a really good defensive battle or defensive standing? Jake: The only thing that stands out is Plax was targeted once. He didn't catch it in the end zone. one throw. Tannenbaum was actually on miked up last night, which is on NBC after the news, after the game, so it's like 1230. So Tannenbaum was on, you know, the guy asked him, it's usually hosted by Mike Franceso, unless he doesn't do that anymore, but whatever the guy's name is who's hosting. and asked him about plaques. And he actually was saying, while he had no statistics and while it would appear on the surface he didn't play the game, he was drawing a lot of attention and throwing blocks. And he had a better game than you would think. So, you know, from that perspective, I'm happy to hear that that Tannenbaum said at least he's contributing and You know, that's good. Yeah. Yeah Justin: Yeah, yeah, I want to have him in the I want to have him in the game plan
01 Justin: But I don't want to be like it's the plaques show or like you have to get him in the game plan Jake: Well, I mean last week they didn't throw him in the first half and then he four catches in the second half. Right. That's fine. And again, I hate to keep doing this, but I'm gonna keep doing it. Breland Edwards had one catch for 20 yards yesterday. Yeah, it's completely, you know. I said I hate to do it, but I'm gonna keep doing it. Justin: You got to compare year to year. Again, I've said it. If Fox walks out with seven touchdowns... this year or seven or more then I think it's an upgrade. If he works out Jake: with less it's a downgrade. Yesterday that one target in the red zone it was just the timing was just off. It should have been a touchdown. He was open. He got open a hair late or later than Sanchez was ready to throw the ball to him. They'll get that. Justin: down though. Yep so let's get some plays and nights in here and then we'll go on Jake: some other stuff. Oh injuries, sorry injuries. Oh nights plays and injuries. Let's do injuries first. Justin: Ooh mangled. Mangled sprained ankle. It didn't look good. They're gonna do an MRI today. As of now recording the podcast middle afternoon there's no news on that. I'm sure it'll be coming out later this afternoon. It didn't look good but... Jake: I will say he was up and he was he did knock it out of his uniform Right, he was out there in the second half and I guarantee you if that was the way January He's back in the oh, yeah He would have been there second cuz that rookie center or whatever he is free agent signup guy Yeah, who's been on the roster for a week and a half. No good Yeah, not gonna work that way. Because Turner at right tackle is no good either. Justin: Right, and it's not just the big guy up front, right? There's a big guy up front, but then he's also the guy who's calling out where the defense is coming from. And I mean, there's stuff that the center does, I know all of you who listen to podcast know this, but there's stuff the center does that's not just like the big guy. He's not just a blocker, he has a lot more in. Jake: You know, after he got injured, the announcing team called out that neither Mangold nor D-Brick drafted in the same draft class. Neither of them have ever missed a game. Justin: That's pretty good. Pretty amazing. That's pretty good. Let's hope we keep that. Keep that streak going. Jake: Any other injuries on, I don't think so. Not that I can think of. No, someone said earlier to me, Mo Wilkerson got injured, but I didn't realize that they didn't say anything about it. Justin: Yeah, Sanchez hit his arm against the guy's helmet and a throw. He came back in the game. He was down and. And of course whenever you see your code of record down you're like oh please he stands up and makes you walk up. Jake: Especially when Mark Brunell's the backup and he's tripping over himself just handing the ball off to Joe McKnight. Who we did see but not in any meaningful action. And that end around Cromartie they actually ran it this way. Justin: Yeah I saw that. You know we sort of talked about this off the pod which is probably not good for all of you. We should keep our chat. Thanks for watching! Bantu all, I'll rehash it now is that, you know, having Kamani do the kick-off returns.
03 Justin: We disagree on this. Yeah, I don't, I just don't get it. Like, this is a, here's my theory. Westoff is a genius. Punt returns, you've said it before, I'll quote you back yourself. Put anybody back there. Jake: You can put anyone back there on the kick return. I believe just two answers. Justin: And Westoff will make them look good. I believe this is true. Alright, so if you can put anybody back there, and you know that our team is really built around these two corners from a defensive standpoint, in that that's the way we want to play. Put these two out on the island, you know, quoting the island, and then allow everybody else to make plays. It's sort of the way we've set up. It's sort of the way Rex Ryan's defenses have always been set. Two good corners. stories. Put him out there. We know that the depth of our corners is not deep It's not like we got we don't we got a Santa Samuel sitting below Carmarti like we've got you know It's a drop off from him, right? Agreed? Yeah, then why put him in the position to do something that we think anybody can do Jake: Well, here's why cuz clearly there's no one other guy who can do it right now I feel like in time. I feel like there's three candidates Justin: And in time one of them will give me one of those not tell them they there's three of them I believe there's curly do he put him in yeah, okay, not yet. There's Kyle Wilson put him in Jake: I'm gonna say lies. There's Joe McPhee. Oh put him in I believe all three of them could eventually step all three of them If they get here's the pop knocked out killed. I wouldn't care stop it. Here's the thing. I wouldn't care. No, here's the thing This is the banter. The Eagles continue to have Deshaun Jackson return punts. Why? He's their best receiver and he's also their best punt returner. So he does it, right? The Jets need to have the guy back there that they feel the most comfortable with that can get you out to the 40 yard line like Cromartie did, because that's an important thing in time. I believe if they think that any of these other guys could do it, they would have him do it. There's clearly a reason for it, right? Westhoff turned Justin Miller into a pro bowler. He turned before that. What was it? Chad Morton was a... great kicker trainer for them. You know, whoever else they throw back, they're Brad Smith, Leon Washington, you can roll off the names who've done it under Westoff. They all do Justin: it well. But do you know the difference between all those guys and Camardia? What's that? They're not our starting cornerbacks. Well, you know, they're all jags. You're yelling. They're all jags. Jags What does that mean? Just another guy meaning if they got her bradsmith gets hurt fine We lose a package if if lian washing that hurt, okay So you lose your other option and running back if I mean we always have someone else to go to those I just feel like come on This is just it's not a he can't do the job is not the best It's just that I think the the downside is not worth the risk. Well kick returners don't really Jake: I mean, kick returners don't really get hurt returning kicks either.
02 Jake: They don't! You don't see it. Devin Hester doesn't get hurt returning kicks, does he? Justin: Bunch of guys running towards him trying to tackle him. Jake: But the kick returner themselves doesn't get hurt. Justin: It just, can you see any validity of what I'm saying? Which is that... I see the validity, but I also feel like he's the best man for the job right now. That's why he's doing it. I feel like if he's a 10 at this job, the next guy at Williams is not a 4. He's a sat- If they thought Curly could do it, they would have him do it. Jake: He did it all pre-season and they clearly didn't like what they saw. Justin: Great. Moving on. Give me your play night of the game. Jake: Oh, it's just like that, huh? Yeah, it's like that. Just give it to me. Alright, let me go with the night first. I picked my night at some point, like in the second corner. He said it was even before the game was over. Oh yeah. because the game was over. Eric Smith is my night. Ah, interesting. Eric Smith was everywhere yesterday. Everywhere. He had two almost picks and then he finally got a pick. So he had like, he was just all over the ball. He finally got his pick, he dropped one, one hit off his hand, like he was just everywhere. Um, you know, so Eric Smith to me... played a fantastic game at safety and probably did some things I didn't see watching it on TV you know playing safety and also on special teams he's a really good special teams contributor starting safety playing special teams how about that and so that's my night and my play of the game which was very early on which I felt set the tempo was Mo getting his first sack and having it be a safety. I think it Justin: set the tone for the whole game. You picked a defensive play and a defensive defensive. Jake: I think you have to when you win 32-3. When you don't give up a touchdown, you pick... defense. Yeah, so there was one other play that I was gonna pick and if you don't Justin: pick it I'll bring it up. Okay. So who's your guy? No my guy I think I think I'm gonna go offense because I really I mean A because he's kind of he's usually said about he's He's played great for the first four weeks and then disappears. But I really like with all the weapons we have that he's a guy that it shows that it's Connerman. No, it's not a bad example. I'll just say his name. Dustin Keller. I just think it's another good game, a really good game for a tight end. And I feel like he's, we have a lot of weapons out there. Obviously the defenses are targeting these other weapons that are like, I'm going to take away that guy and that guy. and it's leaving another guy out there who's playing well and scoring. And that's what I mean, what more can you ask? He's reliable, he catches the ball, he gets good yards after the catch. So he's very good at that. So, you know, that's that's me is is reason enough to get my night of the week. So Dustin Teller. Jake: Night of the week! Justin: That's the Jake soundboard.
00 Justin: So what's your play of the game? I was gonna pick the mobile world Wilbertson safety so I'll give you another one. Okay. I just like this the the Jake: San Antonio home that was the one I was gonna pick cuz it's you know, it was Early drive down the field boom. Boom. Boom touchdown throw Beautiful move. Did you see the highlight? No, you guys see the highlight package cuz they like They show you just Holmes running his route and he triple moved him. Really? Oh it was a... Justin: For a guy who was like questionable to play, he then comes out. Jake: It was like, whoa, he just did that? Like he went one way, the other way, and then back the other way. It was like, oh okay. Justin: What else was it just where, I mean, he was double covered but they put it, I mean, Sanchez put it just where he had... Jake: Well the one guy who was covering him, he wasn't with him for long. Because he just left him at the goal line. Justin: I mean he caught it in between two guys but exactly the right place. What a great place. So uh, Jets win 32-3 and we're 2-0 Talk about some other shit going on around the league. All right Jake: Why don't we rub this right in your face? Well, we're gonna go right to this already. Yeah. Wow Justin: You gotta go about the bills going 2-0. I've got it all written in an order Jake: And this is the one I wanted to talk about first. Rubbing me in the face? A little bit Little fantasy implications here. I'm gonna already pick them for my set or not. The shitty chiefs lose their best player, arguably certainly on offense. Jamal Charles out for the year, torn ACL, NCL, one of those CLs in the knee. Not good for your fantasy team. Not good for your fantasy team. Justin: For my fantasy personally. Jake: Or anybody else who owns a Jamal Charles. Not good. Justin: Yeah, it's not great. The Chiefs are looking awful. Here's the thing about DeMall Charles, if you're a fantasy owner, is that he wasn't doing anything for you yet. He didn't do anything in the first game, he didn't do anything in the second game. And yeah, it's not really the way to look at it. No, and I'm like, well, if you won or lost, if you lost because he wasn't playing. If he wasn't because he wasn't putting the points well, then you're gonna place him anyway If you won you were never gonna take you know Charles out of your line if you're winning without him Well now you a chance to go and put now you have to try and win without your first round pick Jake: Yeah, that's not easy. Well, I'm doing it this week. Good luck to you, sir What else well last night Sunday night game was a really good one Philly goes to Atlanta and it's a shootout All of a sudden it was like Atlanta took the lead. Philly took the lead, it was a very good game, back and forth, back and forth. Vic hurts himself, concussion, I believe. Justin: Yeah, he got hit from the defense, but then spun around and hit his own line. It's his own guy. Yeah, that back of his son for a while. Jake: There's some bad hits last night. Dante Robinson another hit he's smacking shit out of Jeremy Macklin. He might get suspended I think you might cuz it's like you know his last same exact thing Give him a seat home with the helmet bad stuff, but against the Eagles. Yeah same player. It's like yeah So you might you might see a little suspension there and Vic Vic got an interesting ovation
01 Jake: I mean you couldn't really tell because it was like the eagles on the field. They're booing cheering booing cheering Good Suns! Always exciting! That's exciting! That's exciting! Justin: I feel like that's the way Jake: he was a third string quarterback. He was a third string quarterback. He played a couple of packs. Quick question. He went out, comes in, played pretty pretty. well. Who's giving him a second round pick next year for Mike Kafka? Because you know, Mike Kafka. Because you know what's happening. Justin: Yeah, it's true. Well, someone's going to... Well, if he plays three games, wins two of them, then they'll...or wins one. Jake: They're probably better off. They play him instead of Vince Young. Everyone knows what Vince Young is. Jaguars look like they need a quarterback. Yeah, they can use that. They'll trade away for him. The Bills are 2-0. you Last I checked. Look at the AFCE stacked at the top. Stacked at the top with the fins at the bottom. Oh, fins. Squish the fins. No good. Squish the fish. Not good. Not good for them. But it makes the division interesting. Bills 2-0. Last time they were 2-0 is back when they beat the shit out of the Patriots in the first game, and then they beat the Jaguars in the second game. Justin: So what we're saying is the collapse is yet to come. Yet to come. OK. But. Alright. You know keep an eye on it. I think you picked in the way my five games. Yeah games totally still can happen Yeah, totally totally good news is here's a good news on the bills and the Patriots both being to know They're playing each other. Yeah, one of them will be three So it'll it will at least get one of them. I'm a big time bills fan next week Jake: Big time bill fan go bills. I don't even care Justin: Go Bills. Go everybody get hurt on the field. Let's go Buffalo. Jake: All right. They sing that song when they score. They do the shout. Everybody shout. And then they do the let's go Buffalo. All right. Speaking of the AFCs, Tom Brady's still on fire. Jesus. Justin: He hasn't stopped. He is on the same fire that he was in the last Jake: regular season. Oh that's true last year wasn't he on fire like this? In the last year he was. I don't think he threw for this many yards but he threw for a shit load, shit tons of touchdowns. In the regular season he was on fire last year. I know I don't understand why people don't like I mean in talking to a couple people today they're like oh Brady's on like remember the guy last year was unanimous MVP right through 36 touchdowns and four interceptions yeah that's absurd yeah so don't get on your like Brady's unstoppable this year. They can't be stopped because you know what? They looked that exact same way last year. And then I recall sitting there in Gillette next to you and watching the Jets beat them in the playoffs. Beat them. So, you know. That's an awesome soundboard. It is a good, I wish I could just, I wanna press it. Hold on, press the button again. Beat them, beat them. So Brady on fire throwing for some serious yards and hitting his tight ends. all over the field doing this without Otrasinko doesn't even matter. We're not Justin: matched up against them yet but when we are I'm gonna worry. Yeah it's a little Jake: scary. It's a little scary. But it's just as scary as last year in the playoffs I mean they were just as good. The only thing as good as it was. It wasn't like they were
01 Justin: worse than this last year. The only thing you can say is all those weapons because last year here's the thing I said here's the reason people are kind of like saying this is because last year remember they started with Randy Moss. being a citizen. And so they were this... everybody thought they were this one type of team. They brought these two rookie tight ends where it was like, yeah, whatever, that's great. Draft rookie. Nobody said, yeah, whatever. People knew they were going to be good. No one knew they were going to be this good. Yes, but no one knew they would be this good and this fast. So then they go away and get away with Randy Moss and was like, oh, even I probably said you just took away, you know, 16 touchdowns out of your whatever. I was... completely wrong. So I think they started the season kind of being one team and the end of the season being another team. You know, this is what the Patriots do very well. But this year it looks like they're starting it the same way they ended meaning they're starting kind of in that same mode. That hurry up, that fast, that Jesse's on target. You know, you get so much time. I was watching the game. Jake: He gets so much time, Tom Brady. He gets to just stand there, still just standing there as if nothing's happening around him, which is just amazing. Because when you watch some quarterbacks, they're just constantly like, their feet are moving and they're just nervous and they got to get rid of the ball. But the good ones stand there. Justin: I mean, he's like, sorry, Peyton Manning just stood there. And that's what the whole thing- Yeah, he moves around in the pocket. I mean, Brady just literally stands there. Nothing. That's what they say against every great quarterback. They're like first Get to him if you get to him early and he had the same lines Like how do you be a Peyton Manning? How do you beat Tom Brady? Get to him? How do you beat him get to early give him a little rubbing like make sure he knows you're on the field like It's the same way how do we win without blitzing? How did we win against him last year? Oh, yeah, we got to it Without blitzing. Yeah, it's kind of the key. Well, you will pick your party She can't throw the ball to the West Walker and run it in for for 95.5 yards Jake: So what else is going on? Cam Newton continues his hot start. Justin: Yeah, Cam Newton. Real deal? Real deal or two weeks. Jake: Oh, it's only been two weeks and if you would have asked me last week I would have said, let's not, you know, let's hold off here. He did just do this against a very, what I would have said, is a good defense, except for the fact that both quarterbacks that Green Bay have faced have thrown for over 400 yards now. I don't know if that's a matter of teams have to keep up with Green Bay, because they're scoring quite a bit and they're just going to beat a lot of shootouts. Well, remember they were losing to Carolina. They were losing and then they came back and were up by, you know, 14 points. Justin: Right, but I mean that I think that's a little different. It's not like Green Bay came out put up 21 and then then it's like Kim Kim Newton's gonna got throw now forever. They were losing right that the green Jake: I kind of want a family. I know but uh yeah, I mean Cam Newton looking good looking good so far. I I can't say I
07 Jake: Don't want to put like a stake in the ground say this guy's gonna be awesome or say this guy's gonna be a bus But you know what he's looking better than any other rookie quarterback out there. He's looking better than I think Justin: Other than people who are kind of backtracking, he's looking better than anybody thought he Jake: was going from the game. Oh yeah, he's absolutely looking better than anyone would have thought. And you can even throw the caveat, well, there were no OTAs, no off-season this, no off-season that, so I thought he'd start off slow. No. Nobody thought he'd be good with or without those things. Justin: My favorite part of them, actually, other than the two things about him. One is... There's a billboard we were our podcasting studio is live from Times Square, right? There's a huge billboard It's been out there that's been out there like since June. Yeah, maybe whatever it's been she Box something it's kind of running with sure let's not mention a company until they pass I just ruined that Bockin boosh boosh that I don't even know if it's really I don't know could be could be night Wait, don't make him rebar now OS thousands of thousands of dollars So, and so it's been out there for a while and I always kind of bug me, it's like, and we walk by every day and I'm like, really? He's got this huge billboard in his contract and he hasn't played it down. That's one. Two is... Well we were upset, like why is that not a Sanchez? Right. Or even an Eli. Or both of them. Or anything. Doesn't matter. The other thing I was going to say is, I really like the way he's now watching talk a couple of times, like after his post game. I really like the way he like just talks to the you know like he's very He's saying all the right things whether he's well coached or not. He sits there, and he's like listen You know we didn't win. I mean he's also the greatest rookie quarterback wasn't one two games So let's not forget that they're not winning those games one so although I think they have a chance next week No, it's Jaguars But anyway yes, so he's He's hot and he's on my bench. He's on my bench. I think he'll be getting off the bench this week. You might have to get off the bench. Because he's put up 28 points two weeks in a row. Jake: Okay, he's running the ball. He's throwing. He did throw three picks. You know, let me take a little left hand turn here. Alright. Before we talk about, no not a segue, but before we talk about our last item, a little bit of a raffle. So, um... You know a lot of analysts, my fellow broadcasting community, some of us call them analysts. They like to talk about how good Matt Stafford is, how good Josh Freeman is. That is Mark Sanchez's draft class. Last I checked. Neither of those guys have made the playoffs. That's true. Let alone win four games in the playoffs. True, true. Matt Stafford hasn't even played a full season's worth of games yet. True, true, true. Now, I'm kind of sick and tired of this. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Stafford and how good he is and Josh Freeman and how good he is. I think we're stuck in a bit of a fantasy mode here.
01 Jake: Let's talk about... Justin: Someone's using three different fantasy leagues that's interesting to say but okay, but as an analyst oh Jake: Let's look at this right we got we got a quarterback here Who's been only for as long as both those guys and does not get half the credit that either of those guys get that being A good quarterback right true except for Jets fans, and we think that he should get 10 times more credit No, I want him to be put on the same Level as those guys at this point and honestly he should be ahead of Matt Stafford Matt Stafford's played What eight good games in his entire career and he's played on a team that has won absolutely nothing I mean great this year. They're off to a 2-0 start wonderful preach, brother. I am preaching. It's a little annoying It's like even even guys like Matt Ryan You know, he's a year ahead of Sanchez as far as being drafted, right? Ryan and Flacco were both drafted the year before Sanchez came in the league. Now, granted, Flacco has won in the playoffs. Flacco's taken his team to the playoffs. Justin: You're a Ravens fan. Wait, if you're a Ravens fan, you get this exact same conversation. Jake: Well, right. If you're a Ravens fan, you're like, Matty Ice, fuck him. Joe Flacco's winning in the playoffs. But even Matt Ryan shouldn't be on that. I mean he's like put up there like how dare you say Mark Sanchez is in the same class of Quarterback with Matt Ryan when Matt Ryan hasn't even won a fucking playoff game. Yeah Yeah, but that's the but I mean I believe it's even more of a feeling about Josh Freeman and Matthew Stafford Justin: I think here's here's the thing just cuz they share this there's a long draft There's a lot of jewels on the Jets And so when there's a lot of jewels and we have a head coach that that is also a big talker he deflects a lot of the energy of the team. When you're talking about the Lions, right, you've got, or the Bucks, or the Ravens. There's a lot of people to talk about, right? Ravens is actually a probably good example. But like, part of this is just a story. They need to have a story about something. No, no, no, but if you're focusing on the Jets, but this is the thing, if you're a broadcaster, like you are, right? And you're focusing on the Jets. Jake: Now focusing on the Jets. Let me put it this way. If you were as an ESPN or CBS or whatever, were to put out their list of top 32 quarterbacks in the league, guaranteed Stafford is towards the top 10 and Sanchez... is towards in the bottom 10. Probably. And that's bullshit. It is. But what are you basing it on? I'm basing it on the fact that one guy started all of one game in their entire career, played every game, has over 10 games over 500 in his career, and has won four road playoff games, something that one other quarterback in the history of the game has ever done. Justin: I would also throw in there that... Last year with the other team before comebacks and fourth quarter to win the game Jake: And so I was like an injury happen right and and and he gets put up in this top ten This is purely my? I jets homerdom, and I also Justin: ? Out there in the podcast world all listening are all like pounding the fiscally exactly right that he's. Oh
06 Jake: It's like oh Sanchez is like number 23 of all the quarterback I'm right above a Luke McCon and fucking Alex Smith. Justin: We are in a fantasy world, this is about numbers, numbers and numbers and numbers and who's doing what number wise. What I love is when we hopefully be in the playoffs this year and winning again in the playoffs that everybody can all those other players who they, they stop talking about them. That's the rank, they actually did this last year, I think Mike and Mike did it on Jake: they ranked of the uh, Justin: But there are guys that are- I think your argument is good. Jake: I'm comparing him to his draft class. Justin: In that draft class, if you have to compare those three, you cannot say that he's not the best in that draft class. And by all accounts, anyone but us would say he's the worst. You and I are now going to put it out in a poll. We're going to ask our friends and family, we're going to say, of these three, who's the best? I guarantee you Sanchez comes in last. In fact, we'll ask the Giants fan tomorrow. Jake: absolutely I guarantee Sanchez's last but it'll be in a bad move as the Giants are gonna lose tonight. That's right. Let's move on. Let me move on to our last and this sort of plays into it you know. Our shorter little podcast Justin: so the Colts are 0-2. First time in like 15 million years. Yeah, you had a good conversation, you actually had a conversation with a Patriots fan, I'm going to repeat it a little bit, just because you had your big rant and no one wants to hear your voice that much. Jake: I was just on the phone with a Pats fan. Justin: And talking about, because actually you and I, actually I go back and forth over the Peyton versus Brady thing. whether which one of them is the better quarterback. It's not gonna do best for the whole time or whatever. I couched it though and I did say, Jake: while I do believe, Justin: Tom Brady is the better of the two. What you said was, I thought it was a good little we'll have to see where he ends. But basically that if you look around these teams, the Patriots and the Colts, and you take away, I think we've said this before, but now it's coming true. So now we can actually show it to you. true. If you took away Brady from, if you took him out on the first game of the season, the second game of the season, and he said, what's that season going to end up with? We know the answer. Matt Castle, who now looks like a piece of shit, who, they went 11-5 and made the playoffs. Jake: Did they make the playoffs? They missed the playoffs. By one game. That was when the Belvin Justin: with offense is something right. 11 and 5. Now you have now an example of what's take and and it's not like they had any time to prep for that Jake: No, cuz ain't pretty got injured in week one and during the game and neither calls cool stuff He was there no time right to pray now
01 Justin: the culture is the cult's lose pain Manning and they look like a team that just It is just falling apart JV Jake: Yeah, I- that- Justin: But anyway, and against the Colton, it's like geez, oh I wonder who's gonna win the game. Jake: I don't even want to watch it. be Justin: I- and a the sucks. What's that? Well, we have to have a drinking game about how many times they try to figure out what they're going to say. I don't think they're going to try to hype this game to be something more than they already tried. Jake: It's like instead of showing the flashes of Peyton Manning, it's like Dwight Freeney. Dwight Freeney. Joseph and Di. Dwight Freeney might get a sack. Dwight Freeney. Justin: Well, they pulled Peyton Manning from the Sunday night opener. He shouldn't be on there. Well, I wonder if players on there that I think I wonder if he'll be at the game and Jake: If he is at the game how much that's the drinking game how many times after Kerry Collins gets sacked or throws the ball 20 feet over someone's head or like six feet short, right? They pan over to Peyton who's like shaking his head But he can't shake his head, so he's moving his whole body like a robot. My body is moving because I can't move my neck. Robot invitation! See? That's why it's the best soundboard ever. So, alright, let's move to tonight's game because we've clearly covered Random Vantar already. Tonight's game on Monday night since, you know, this is being recorded. Oh, who do I have in our pick? Yeah, and I'm in the jack kingdom picking which I think you told me you're destroying me and I was destroying you this week because You were doing terrible. I have eight and I think you had like five or something like I'm ranked I've seen Lewis tonight. Oh Bad bad bad. I've seen Lewis tonight cuz they're getting six points. Oh, and I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm doing horrible You have four I have eight. Yeah, I'm doing you have tonight Find out so tonight's game is the giant so I have so you can pick up a game on me here at sex st. Louis okay, go gee man and So tonight the Giants are hosting their home. It's their home opener For an ad life stadium again another prime time game at MetLife Stadium. How many is that? It's three already. This is two Justin: This is week two So I was thinking games, you're right. Week two, we've already had two prime time games
00 Justin: in that last year. Two prime time games in MetLife. Jake: I'm sure the MetLife, I'm sure the sponsor, I'm sure the MetLife inside will be blue as opposed to green. The outside, yes. No, the inside. You know the big MetLife. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Justin: It's in- I was showing that to the wife and kid, they thought that was really cool. Jake: It was in green for Jet Games and it looks great. I'm sure it'll be blue for giant games because that's their real MetLife. real color is blue and it's Giants who are blue I'm sure it won't be green that would be stupid. So St. Louis comes in Bradford I believe is playing Steven Jackson likely out not sure if it's like totally official yet but he probably won't be playing still nonetheless you know the Giants have some questionable guys too. Knicks might not play still still up in the air but I believe he will end up playing This is, you know, it's early, but this is like a must-win game for the Giants. Now, the Rams can afford to go 0-2 to the Eagles and the Giants. In the NFC West, you can be 0-2 after playing two NFC East teams. That's okay. You're not judged until you play a division rival in the NFC West. But in the NFC East... If the Giants lose a game to To the Rams and they lose a game to an NFC West opponent and they're 0 and 2 in that NFC East They're big fucking trouble right because they're in fourth at 0 and 2 with the skins and the and the the skins at 2 and 0 the Cowboys and the Eagles at 1-1. They haven't played the skins yet. They lost. They're in big trouble at 0-1-2. Yeah. I know it's really early and 0-1-2 is like, oh really 0-1-2? But you know. It's hard to come back from Justin: 0-1-2. The Eagles and the Cowboys don't look like two teams that... they don't look as powerful as preseason wise for everybody saying they would be. Eagles look like you can run. fucking middle and it's not a good team to run on them what what more than the Giants? Jake: Well here on Giants Kingdom podcast Atlanta is is a good team and they you know they've played 13 and 3 last year and they're very good at home. They lost their opener. And they are very good at home and they almost they almost lost this game I mean I feel if Vic doesn't get knocked out of that game I feel like the Eagles would have won the game. Justin: I think the Eagles would have won the game. Me too. I think the win came out of their sales. Jake: Yeah, they were just like ah shit shit, but you know tonight's game will be a very hard fought game I feel like six points is a lot for this game because it's just it these are tiny to very closely max Justin: And this is a game that I actually flipped my pic Lot live on podcast last week because trying to go against me No, because no because I remember I laid out the scenario of our of the other guys Giants fan in the oh, yeah I wanted to see him No, after a victory. And I could see in my head him coming in and telling us the next day how the entire thing's fine, the Giants are fine, and how they're going to win the Super Bowl because they won this game, and how you and I are both going to know, well, actually you got beat up in
01 Justin: your own division and you're probably going to get beat by the other two teams in your division and you probably won't go very far, but that he was just going to come in, he's going to be all happy, happy. because this game is gonna be out there, whatever. I still feel the same way. Give me some fancy implications for this game. I have a couple personal ones, I'll give you three or four personal ones in this. One is, I am in our league, I'm 35 points up from my wife, and she's got Cat-Ock Williams. So I'm thinking I'll do it. I think you're okay. I think I'm okay. So but another one is that in our league that we're together We picked two weeks ago to put in Sam Bradford over Joe Flacco last week and that backfired Jake: Yeah, that's right. And we switched it this week So I'm actually hoping that black for doesn't do very good because I don't want to look like a small by putting in Flacco and in our league that we share or not sharing our In our competitive league, where we play against each other, I'm playing against our big giant fan friend, our business partner. And I'm beating him by 40 right now. And he has to keep Nick's going. And I have a mob Bradshaw going. So I'll take my chances with Bradshaw plus 40. Yeah, I think I think it's pretty much it doesn't have a kicker no he played last night Oh both of our kickers you got to play against each other Justin: 35 points-point up theredependance I can put them in next week. We'll see whoever's playing. All right. Well, I think that kind of wraps up our podcast here I hope you're enjoying the Tweets up unless of you're enjoying the fancy stuff that we're kind of thrown in here left and right Or just the random banter because I know somebody who liked it Just doesn't realize that you can't type on the keyboard because the the mic except every last one of those typey type things.
