16 Jake: This is episode number 44 of the Jet Kingdom podcast for Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Draft grades. Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast as always on this side of the post-draft digital aisle. It's Jake. And joining me, especially just for this week, just like every other week, is Justin. Maybe? Are you getting rid of me? I've gotten a lot of offers for to come on as special guest stars and no you're still here Justin: So uh so welcome Justin. How you doing? Well, thank you for that confidence. I'm doing all right Pretty good Jake: Well, that's good. So let's get right to the draft that was we the draft happened over the weekend the fifth Sorry, I was almost jumping right in. It was started at 4 o'clock on Saturday. I know you watched zero of it. Justin: I watched zero. Yeah, I got my updates via Twitter. Jake: Oh, yes. Well, the Twittering was interesting. Just one little side note. Some of the teams were actually Twittering their picks. the Patriots were one of them were touring their picks before they actually announced by the NFL on in live Which the NFL's gonna investigate? because they don't like the Having their their thunder stolen. It's kind of interesting that they always Justin: Those bastards those bastards always cheat Jake: They are a bunch of cheating bastards, I will say. It was interesting. I did track it at one point. I was staring at Twitter. I got the new Twitter from the Patriots. It was about 45 seconds before they got up to the mic. So interesting. I mean, it was clearly Twitter and Jet Kingdom is on Twitter, twitter.com slash Jet Kingdom. but it's clearly changing the scope of media now and what is done and where people meet the commission was twittering uh... hodge was twittering Justin: uh... where i was actually getting my stuff was from uh... merrill hodge just treated every Jake: yeah there was a there was another one who's twittering every pecan you could just see as it went through it was it was very cool so anyway that's what happened so let's talk so i that we'll break it down um... As such tonight, first we're going to talk a little bit about the draft itself, just kind of like, you know, pop and circumstance. Talk about the first four picks. Why four? Well, I don't know. For some reason, I think we should just talk about the first four. And then we'll talk about the Jets picks. Well, there's an article up on Jet Kingdom right now grading the picks, but you and
04 Jake: I will grade them. each one of our picks. As we'll talk about not very many so won't be very hard then we'll give an overall grade and then maybe we'll talk about Some of the other some of the other big things that happened and and teams that did well or not Including our own AFC East rivals the Patriots Bills and Dolphins So what do you say? So, um, you know, I think we this draft was Kind of like last year in that you knew the first pick was going to go to, you kind of knew in advance, right? The contract had already been done. Justin: I don't like this crap. Jake: It took it out of it, you know? Well, what do you think? Justin: I hate, I don't like that crap. Why should the first team be able to do that? Jake: like why why why should they be able to sign a guy i don't like that to be honest it the first pick in the NFL draft is is is is a crap is is a is a crap pick but i don't understand why they're Justin: allowed to just sign a guy and then if they Couldn't sign him they'd pick someone else that's just dumb like that means you don't even care That means you didn't even want that guy Well, I'm just you'll take someone else if you can't sign him before the fucking draft you didn't even draft him yet. I Jake: Don't think is the first draft the first pick in the draft has become a plague. It's no longer something that people want You're not getting necessarily even the best guy. You're getting what you are getting guaranteed right now in the first pick is you're getting the most expensive guy. That's the only thing you know. You don't know if he's going to play well. You don't know if he's going to affect your team. You don't know anything about him. The only thing you do know 100% guaranteed is that guy is going to make more money than any other player on your team right now. Justin: That sucks. Jake: Yeah, well, this is cool where they need to make that change. Justin: Yeah, the NBA has this pretty well figured out. They have like a separate salary cap for rookies. Then they have to prove themselves for a couple years before they can actually make money. Baseball works a very different way. No salary cap. But football, that's very difficult to do because guys can play like three years, right? You can cap out at three years and be done. So you kind of have to get your money when you can get it. So it's kind of hard to say either way what's the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do. You'd like to see it based on merit, like after they get into the league. I have a lot of like bonus type things built into contracts perhaps, I don't know. But then you can see teams shutting guys down because they don't want to pay them five million dollars extra for their contract when they're, you know, three and twelve and they're going into weeks. 17 Jake: I think the picture just be a locked-in number and they raise it by whatever percentage every year
02 Jake: But basically one through whatever Maybe based on position you get paid X Justin: That brings up that brings up the the question of remember a couple years back that team who was it because Minnesota perhaps they knew that they could get the guy that they wanted a couple picks lower and instead of Trading down they just didn't draft so what well then you're you know Then you're kind of manipulating that system you're you're pick eight, but you're picking your guy at pick ten do pay Jake: That's what works now. I mean, but that's and money well wait wait, but that's what it works now. Really is it locked in Justin: Well, it's not locked in, it's not locked in, but people in the field. You get what you get. I mean, last year, the first pick overall wasn't the highest paid pick. Yes, it was. No, he wasn't. Yes, he was. No, he wasn't. Absolutely not. Jake: Well, by his position, by his position. Justin: Oh, I don't care about position. You just said the number one pick. Jake: No, position on the field, on the field. Justin: What does that mean? Jake: Meaning that a quarterback gets paid more than a offensive lineman. Well, that's not what you said Justin: You said yes, it is you know what you're gonna get with the number one pick You're gonna get the number one highest paid player on your team on your team. Yes Jake: I'm guarantee that right now on on the dolphins the number one player the most guaranteed money going to any player on the Dolphins Right now is Jake long Guaranteed and you know what the most known most guaranteed money going to any player on the Lions, right now is Matthew Stafford so anyway, let's just let's just talk about so round one the Lions who had an Owen 16 season the worst season ever in the NFL Pack picked Matthew Stafford It was, as we said before, the draft, a weak quarterback draft, which will be ironic as we talk through the picks. But Matthew, it was basically only three people that were in contention, Josh Freeman, Matthew Stafford and the greatest quarterback ever to play, Mark Sanchez. Anyway, so Matthew got picked first. First, you know, A has a lot of experience, more experience than Sanchez, but... But probably, you know, not as charismatic, but has a huge cannon of an arm. He probably won't play this season. But they're trying to rebuild, and just like, you know, the Falcons did last year, they want to get their guys so they can start building a new franchise around them. The Rams picked with their second pick. Which wasn't controversial. They picked Jason Smith, the offensive tackle. That's kind of a solid pick in the top. Chiefs kind of had an interesting shot because they went for Tyson Jackson, the defensive end. That was interesting. A lot of people think that that's a reach. Again, I'm not a draft guru, but I'll go by the people. That was a reach to John Paul. Justin: I don't like to go by the people. I just think... That's a whole different team and going into a new era and you're picking a 3-4 defensive
05 Justin: end. I don't know. Jake: It's a little odd. Yeah. Let's just say that the consensus across them was like C, B-, C-, D, B, B, C, A-, so they didn't consensus. Justin: They may have done us a favor. Jake: Uh, possibly. Number four went to, uh, oh, actually the Chiefs did a good favor. Probably the Rams did the bigger favor because the Rams were thinking about Rams and Seattle Seahawks. Probably did a bigger favor. Chiefs have their guy. Justin: Um, well, I was thinking that the Chiefs may have drafted the guy who Seattle ended up Draft Drafting 4. Meaning if that guy wasn't there was his name Curry right the linebacker. He was a big You know the big linebacker so if he was maybe perhaps not there the Chiefs picked him Seattle might not go for that defensive and maybe Jake: Yeah, I mean there's lots of talk. Why did CLLC Hawks, I think they went with the safe pick, which is probably the right thing for them. They've got a quarterback, they've got someone something who can play. They needed this guy, you know, was the right pick. We're very happy because then again, as I was sitting there watching, because I'm a true fan who really loves the NFL and the Jets, I was watching and you know, I'm watching with my friends, we're watching the picks come and I'm like I'm sitting there thinking, okay, well, I got basically like two hours before the jets pick and all of a sudden we get to Cleveland, I think it's about four minutes away from the end of there, 10 minutes a thing, and all of a sudden, the jets have traded. They trade out and the jets are in. The place erupts, the people are all going crazy and I just started going, oh my God, who What were they going for? In retrospect, the rumors were saying Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets traded with the Cleveland Browns, the Eric Mangini Cleveland Browns, and picked up Mark Sanchez, the quarterback, out of USC. Pretty freaking impressive, actually, now that we look back, probably after about two days of thinking about it. Okay. I'm going to leave that. Really, this trade only could have happened with one team. It happened with the team. It happened with Eric Mangini and the Browns. We traded Ray our first round, which was basically a trade up. We traded our second round of this year. We traded Ray three guys, Elam, Coleman, and Brett Ratliff, our quarterback. So, you know... In most circles now it's coming out as a great trade. We trade away just other guys to go up and get the guy we wanted. We didn't trade away our next year's draft. Usually if you're gonna trade that far up from 17 to 4 or 5 you got to trade away at number one from next year. We didn't do that. We still have all our 2010 picks intact and we got Marc Sanchez. So, you know...
04 Jake: Again, I probably wasn't sold as it happened. I was kind of like, wow. But as I've read everything, as I've watched the video, gone and watched his YouTube video highlights, his plays, seen his stats. This is a guy who just both mentally and physically fits. the team, right? He is a big team guy. He's played in a NFL type kind of offense. He played for an NFL coach, Pete Carroll, who actually was a New York Jets coach, funny enough. He has a typical quarterback size, 6'2", 227. He has huge hands, 10.5 inch hands, which are actually biggest hands in the quarterback draft this year. which is very important and it sounds kind of strange but is very important the ladies on that and basically he's just smart he's a smart guy he's a winning quarterback is fourteen and two his downsides are you know he doesn't have staff hurts arm uh... i think the jets are all kind of really on the you know we're so kind of gun shy from uh... chad pennington the arm strength conversation uh... but he is to throw the ball and he is the long ball no problem And he always played 14 games now. He's a junior and You know could he have stayed next year and probably been the best player in the West quarterback and gone number one probably I mean he was that good But you know we haven't seen a ton of him Stafford played for two years Sanchez played for basically one full year You know he did well. He's obviously extremely successful So, give me a grade for the draft. Give me some thoughts on the grade on the Sanchez spec. Justin: You just said a mouthful. I did. Yeah. I don't want to rush and say, you know, that was the greatest thing ever. Um... I'm not sure that how you are, you know, you believe he'll start week one. I'm not 100% sure that he will. I think I don't I'm not sure on that. I think that the Jets did a pretty good job in the draft overall, meaning they knew they knew what they wanted and they they got it. Meaning like you know they had six picks going in and they had a couple guys that they know that they Wanted and that they knew that they could get if they played their cards right and they did and they got them So that I applaud them for They wanted Sanchez certainly and they wanted the running back That they picked in the third round. I already named Shawn something or other Okay, John green John green. Thank you You're looking at me over the digital aisle as if like how dare you forget the guy who's never played for the team yet
06 Justin: You know, I give them a A B+. I think everyone's given the Jets the greatest grades ever because they moved up for the hot guy. Hopefully the hot guy isn't just the hot guy and isn't just a flash in the pan. He's actually worthy of the hype that he garnered all through the lead up to the draft. He was like all about Marc Sanchez. He's flying up the board. He's doing this. He's doing that. well. I want to see when he's all about when he actually plays some football. Jake: You know, I agree. There's lots. We'll say this every year, and I'll say it a million times over. The draft, this year's draft, isn't to be talked about until 2012. Yeah. Justin: In three years, we can go back and talk. Did New England trade up in the 6th round to get... You know, Tom Brady. I don't know. I don't. But it doesn't matter. You never know. I mean, this could be the greatest thing that they ever did. Or it could be fucking stupid, like when they traded up to, you know, draft Dwayne Robertson first round. Jake: You know, here's some things that I think are really positive about this. First of all, this is a franchise quarterback. Caliber Pick this is not some guy from another team who maybe you never heard of no this isn't Josh Freeman No, this is this isn't the John Beck who just got released by by the dolphins Justin: This isn't dare you compare him to yeah, this isn't the Kellen Clemens Jake: This is a guy who you literally this is the franchise. He will either be the franchise guy or he will be Justin: Huge bust yeah, this is the Roffelisberger Rivers Jake: Type pick yeah, and where you and any they pick and the Jets haven't picked this high For a quarterback in God's know how long the last time we picked a quarterback in the first round was Chad Pennington and we can all say what we want for the Chad painting But we went to the we got the farthest we've gotten since Chad Pennington with Chad Pennington Justin: That's not a great statement. Stop there. Well, no way is it. Jake: It's a great statement in that there's a point to which you have to say, and again, I'm probably hypocritical on this whole point, but there's a point to which you have to say, in order to win nowadays, you've got to have your franchise quarterback. Either this guy is or is not. I'll tell you some of the things I really like about him. I've watched tons of his videos. I've watched his interviews. Justin: Have you broken him down? Have you watched the film? home. Jake: I have. I broke him down. I'm like, I broke him down. First of all, he's incredibly smart. He handles the media like nobody I've ever seen. In fact, he's handles the media better than any player I've ever seen. Like he just gets up there. He talks. This is a guy who's like probably I'm trying to see if his age.
02 Jake: You know, 2022, he just got picked to go play in the New York market and he knows what he's doing already in that term. Second thing I like about him, I watched his, you know, he's obviously got great feet. He can scramble left to right. He can throw on the run. He's played in an NFL-like position and I think you're dead wrong. This guy will start. Alright. And here's why. Rex Ryan has Rex Ryan's already done this. Rex Ryan's been there, done this. Justin: Rex Ryan's never done this. Jake: Yes, he has. No, he hasn't. No, he didn't do any. Justin: He was stopped. He's never been a head coach, ever. Jake: It doesn't matter. No, it doesn't matter. No, it's seen. Well, yes, but he's a disgusting ever played quarterback in the NFL. Neither did Matt, neither did Matt Ryan. This guy is gonna start from day one and here's why we're not putting him on a bad team You're not freaking you know Stafford who's going to a shit team who couldn't win a game last year Where he's going to a team that won nine games last year that was in the hunt for the playoffs That you know was a few games short of going to the playoffs and maybe fell off because of the quarterback they had They're going with an offensive line that is good, probably one of the top five, top ten in the league. He's going with a running game that now is even better than it was three days ago, but that has a speedy runner and a power runner. He's going with a defense that added in a ton of weapons. So this isn't going to be a team that he's going to have to bail himself out of 40 to zeros or 24 tens. he's gonna have to you know put up enough to get us through games he will start there's no reason not to start him Justin: well kellen clemons Jake: Matt's kellison cat kellen clemons has been through every uh... you know every competition and lost he lost against chad he lost against whoever he lost against you know obviously around cut brat If Kevin Koonz should be crying himself to sleep on a big pillow, he's clearly a backup. That's fine. He's a backup. You're a backup. You might be a great backup. Be a backup. Make good money with being a backup. This guy is our quarterback. He's the franchise. He's the face of the New York Jets now. And he's already done it. Like the guy's already out there. He's had more interviews. I've seen more interviews with him. than I've ever seen of Kellen Clemens. Like, he's already been on like four things. He's only throwing out the pitch at the Mets game. He did that yesterday. The guy is... He's already... He's already the face of the Jets. He will start. No Jet Fan in the right mind wants this guy not to start. Sure, we're going to have a rocky season. We might be looking at, you know... 79 8 and 8 9 and 7 type season, but we're gonna learn a lot about this guy and and I think Some you know, we're all looking ahead to maybe we have a great season Maybe we get the playoffs like Joe Flacco and the bear and the and the Ravens fine
00 Jake: Maybe but we are looking to 2010 brand new stadium quarterback on a second year coming off, learning stuff, defense that finally is, you know, fully come together, second year for a head run, you can just see these things lining up to be this really cool thing. So I go over the pick, I gave the pick an A just because I think it's great. You got the guy you wanted, you got it with the only time you could and if he's the franchise, then that's the, then you gave up the least amount of money and the least amount of stuff to get the franchise quarterback. I give it an A. Okay. Let's talk about the second one. So then the Jets were quiet. There's a rumor that they tried to trade back up into the second to get a wide receiver but couldn't trade up. So then the beginning of the third round, which is actually on Sunday, the Jets traded up and got Sean Green. ... ... from Iowa. He's a 5'11", 227 running back. He actually won the award. It's like the I can't think of the, oh, the Doke Walker award, which was a award for the best running back in the league, in the college division. He is, you know, he's got tons of leg powers. He's not as speedy as everybody on the planet, but his workout, if you look at his workout and The other guy in the other, no Sean Moreno who was ranked higher, he had an actually better workout. He had a 37 inch vertical jump and the Jets traded back up to the top of the third round and take him. You know, this is the kind of thing, I didn't think this was what we needed. You know, we kind of have two running backs. We maybe need one. It gives us some leverage. Which... It does. It gives us leverage and it gives us a three-back system which I think we're ready to do. Clearly Thomas Chulins isn't going to stick around forever. Justin: He's also not going to do what he did last year. Jake: So I gave this a solid B because it wasn't really our need but it was a good pick and again it looked like this is the guy we wanted. Apparently we had this rated higher than any other running back. So we got the guy. Again, this is quality over quantity. I gave it a B. What do you think about the pick? Justin: It's funny, I'm more happy about this pick, even though I didn't even remember his name. I'm happier about... I love the third round running back. I love that. You know, Liam was like a third, fourth round pick. Jake: Fourth rounder. Liam was fourth round. Justin: Fourth round pick. Curtis Martin wasn't even a first round pick. Second round pick. Brandon Jacobs on the Giants, fourth round pick. I love these running backs, because... They're inevitably really good. The reason why they don't go in the first round is because they don't last that long. And people like to pick guys in the first round that they know that they can count on for a long time if they end up being very good. Generally running backs don't last that long, so you can get them in the third, fourth round.
02 Justin: But I'm static about the pick. I thought of running backs where we should have went, I think. That's what I said last week on our podcast that the running backs were I would have went with the first pick. Even though what I just said, the third round running backs awesome. I give this pick an A- just because I'm not going to pretend to even know Sean Green. I trust the fact that the Jets saw what they saw and uh you know trade it up to get the guys so i'm gonna go with them and i just i like the uh the strategy of the pick the picking the running back Jake: and then the uh six round having only one left one love this one pick left i love this Justin: matt's awesome absolutely why not just pick a big fat guy I love that football is about having the most big fat guys on the team. Jake: So here's an interesting fact. He's 6'5", 316. Love it. From Nebraska. Here's the interesting thing. Bill Callahan recruited him to Nebraska. Absolutely. and he is. So there's a connection there. You know, it's a solid pick. I give it a C because it's a solid pick. You know, picking offensive linemen in the end. Okay, great. I mean, clearly though we didn't hit our big need, which is wide receiver. Overall, you know, I gave what I have an A, a B, and a C+. Overall, I think if it works out, I gave them a... a B plus for the 2009 draft. I think they got the guys they wanted. It's a little bit sad they didn't have enough to get a wide receiver, at least to put into the system someone that could work out to be someone later. We didn't have that. Justin: We have a couple guys in our... We have a couple guys coming up that are now going to be in there. third year in their second year right we have clowny who's going to be in his second year and we have um what's his face we have uh stuckie who's going to be in his third year he showed some promise last year uh so you never know what might come come about and to be honest i think receivers are guys you don't draft I think receivers are guys that you get once they mature. You pick them off. Someone has to draft them. Well, someone has to draft them, develop them, and then you pick them as free agents. You just get them as free agents. I think receivers are better in their third to eight years. in the league. They don't give you much in the very beginning. A lot of guys come into their own, so you might see something like From Stucky and Clowney, and I think we have a lot of weapons.
01 Justin: I mean, we have the running game. We have the receiving tight end in Keller, who I think is going to have a good year. And we have, you know, Kachri's a pretty dependable wide receiver for possession. I think we're built actually offensively in the same ilk as the Ravens were last year. We really are like the Ravens North. Jake: Oh yeah, we are Ravens North. Well, I mean, again, if we can do as well as the Ravens South did, I'll be ecstatic. going to go into the playoffs and get into the AFC Championship that's not a bad thing so overall you give the draft a be a Justin: Bee only cuz you know I would give it a higher grade, but only getting three guys I Guess if all three make the team and all three end up being players Then that's great because I guess you get like you know three guys out of every draft that end up actually playing and making an impact on the team. So you know if all three can do that then great. That's the only reason why I give it a beat because you know you look at a team even just within our division like the Pats you see how how many guys they just stacked up I mean. some of those guys are that's gonna be the core of their team over the next bunch of years I think you got it no standouts obviously but some of them are just gonna be you know gonna be on that team for a while yeah I mean I was just Jake: looking back over the the drafts from 2004 onwards 2004 the only player still on the roster is Jericho Cottree Justin: Anybody who made an impact though while they were with the Jets? Jake: Jonathan Vilma did, clearly. Justin: And he turned into another player. Jake: And Derek Ward I think would have been someone who we considered turning into someone else. 2005, Nugent, clearly made an impact but then it's gone. Miller, Justin Miller made an impact but gone. Sihanapua still on the team, but I don't know if he's really made an impact much. Rhodes is the only one who I'd say looks anything good. Houston didn't go anywhere. Citrus Houston kind of went nowhere. 2006, 2006 is the gold mine, right? D-Brick, Mangold, Clemens. That's kind of, all those are on the team now. Eric Smith, Brad Smith, Lee, and Washington. Brad Smith in Washington. I don't know. Is Eric Smith still on? I think we do waste it. Justin: No. You know I always forget about Brad Smith. There's another option that they have. Jake: Yeah. 2007, of course. 2007 is what this draft was very much like. We only got four guys, and three of which look pretty good. We got Reavis Harris, Jacob Bender, I don't think he's done anything, and Chancey Stuckey. Who could or could not be some good receiver?
01 Jake: So that's kind of last year, you know, obviously Gholston Keller Lowry age Who looks like he's gone hasn't shown up to anything Marcus Henry and Nate Garner. I think have both been released So, you know, kind of interesting, kind of a different spin on it. So what about some of the other drafts? Any other drafts that kind of stuck out with you anything you've picked up on? You know, some interesting things the Raiders continue to just... Justin: Oh, they are the best, aren't they? Jake: Just to screw themselves. Justin: They're like on another planet. They just, they pick in Raider Land, really. They really do. They just, they're, they, it's like everybody else has their... their basic charts of what guys can do and then the Raiders are way out to the left. It's amazing year after year they continue to surprise. Yeah I mean they Jake: just again don't pick the guys you think they would pick. I mean as for the Justin: AFC East I mean... I was kind of surprised by the Dolphins and and the fact that they picked a quarterback. I thought they really liked Chad Henny who they picked last year and Didn't they pick a quarterback in the second round just the year before in John Beck? So they just they've picked a quarterback in the top First or in the first day for three straight years. That's kind of odd Well, they also you wouldn't think that they would do that, but I do like their corner pick Vontae Davis. Yeah, I like that. You know, that's like a Parcelsian kind of thing is to You know Get a get a lockdown kind of corner on the team Jake: Yeah, I though he's the keys the person on the draft board that has slipped the most Because of his off-the-field stuff, so yeah, you never know Randy Moss slip because of his off-the-field stuff, too I'm just yeah, and then he blew up a couple teams Justin: Really didn't blow up any teams. He looks from teams Raiders blow themselves up Jake: And then the bills the bills didn't do Justin: Hi, you know those are the bills. They're never flashy But but they what they did was they they picked All when you look at it like position players no like skill Players, I want to say skilled players like I should play with the ball in their hands They didn't really pick anybody they you know, they picked linebackers center and corner Another corner and some DBs, you know, no no real running back or receiver or quarterback or anything fancy like that they just Jake: kind of built around the core of the team. Interesting stuff I will say I really enjoyed the draft I will make a couple comments since you didn't watch Justin: I watched a little bit I was like an hour combined so I was watching the
05 Jake: difference between NFL which you don't have and I don't even have that ESPN that's going back and forth and I really realized that the the ESPN Rocks the coverage and they have so much experience Well, the difference was really the clips at every pick that then start their little music and then they would play the clip of these Guys playing and you and they'd circle them with their little thing and just go. Wow, that's that's a Justin: Nice I'll not see the place. They not had no they didn't know clips at all Jake: No, no, I had once in a while, but it was really bad probably because they couldn't get him Well, this is I was thinking so I was talking to some people today I was saying well, why couldn't they use they tape every moment of the combine? Why don't they just use their combine stuff? Because if you just threw up the combine information and said, you know NFL and then threw up their compound workout and whatever. It would at least be something to watch the guy run down for his 40 or something. Justin: So what were they doing after it got past the guys that were in the house? Jake: They would just talk. Justin: That's kind of boring. Jake: Yeah, it was. It was kind of boring. It is boring. And I just want to let you know. You just got a delivery. I just had a delivery, a special delivery from the uh, one of the dollar light in the house. Justin: One of the Miller Lite twins. Yeah. Jake: And uh, delivered a nice fresh beer because about 95 degrees in his office because I had the window shut. So that was that little, little fun things going on. Uh, Adrian James was released from the uh. Cardinals. I was surprised there. Justin: I didn't know that. I'm not up on the waiver wire That's interesting, I wonder who will end up picking him up. Maybe the Patriots because they already did that. They picked up Fred Taylor from from Jacksonville. Otherwise, I would say the Pats would make a run at him because they could use. They always could use one of those old washed up backs who, you know, wants to win the championship. Jake: Then, some other, one last interesting draft note and then we'll call it a night, is the NFL put out a little, they have the NFL PR guys actually on Twitter. He put out a thing saying that they're thinking about moving the draft to the prime time, which actually they had many years ago, not many, but three or four years ago. Here's the theory. Give me your thoughts. I did they're gonna do The thought is to do a one hour Thursday night, first round only, or not one hour, sorry, first round only, which is I think three hours. Then do the second on, I guess Friday, do like the second and third round, and then I guess do the rest on Saturday afternoon. Thoughts, opinions, what do you think? Would you watch it? I mean, you don't watch it, so would you watch it for prime time on Thursday night? Thank you.
01 Justin: Oh, Thursday's tough. I would say what do you what what do you got on Thursday? They can't I'm just saying you know Jake: Busy you're already busy. I always I always I always Justin: Associate to draft with like a weekend thing. That's why If it was on a Thursday night and it was only the first round, yeah, I probably would. Jake: What about Friday night? Yeah, Friday night first round. Justin: Let me just rephrase. I don't care what night it was. If it's just the first round and they're going to find a way to make it move a little bit, yeah, I would watch it totally. What that does is I don't know if you could break it up like that. Like, I don't know what that does for the whole draft. You know what I mean? Like, I like to see the draft kind of flow. Why break it up over three days just so people can watch it on TV? It's more important than that. Jake: Yeah, I it's obviously you don't really watch the draft if you think there's any flow to the draft there's no flow Justin: No, but I mean, I mean once you get to I mean if you're gonna break it up like round by round like that Are you gonna allow teams to talk to each other? Between round one and two. Yes. Yes. So there's gonna be more talk like during the There's three days then. Yeah. This is weird. I don't know. I don't know. I think the draft should be like almost in one day, just continuous and just do it. Jake: Oh, no, that's that's horrible. Justin: I don't care about me watching it. I care about my team doing good. Jake: Well, then you want your team to have more. More time to make the right decisions. Justin: I don't know if that really matters. I don't know if that is good or bad for them. Jake: I'm not crazy about the Thursday night, although that is really prime time television. Justin: Oh, that is, that's right in the thick of things. Jake: You know, I like a Friday night. I like the way they did it again. Three or four years ago, I don't remember when it was, but I remember they had a Friday night. I think it was the first two rounds. I kind of like the first two rounds together. Because there is, for someone who actually does watch the draft, aka me, there is actually a flow between the first and second rounds. Justin: Yeah, because they're trading in and out of the first and second round. Jake: Although, again, I think last year, even the first, second, and third rounds were on the first day. So they can break them up and it's fine. Justin: I don't like breaking the first and second round up, but I think it's too long. if it is the first and second round. Jake: Yeah, it's like five hours and 34 minutes. Justin: I don't think that's unbearable. I think that's wonderful. Jake: Oh, it's so long. I think it's a wonderful, wonderful event. And I think that if you actually were a fan of the NFL, then you would understand. Yeah, I guess. Like us, sorry. So anyway, to calm off the thing, just want to remind everybody, I put up a new fact on... What's a fact? a frequently asked question. It's in the information booth of Jet Kingdom. The new one is actually
06 Jake: who are the Jet players on Twitter. Go to the website, just search for Twitter. It actually lists off all the Jets players. I will tell you right now. Let's see. Justin: of three Jake: You know three, well there are five right now. Justin: I'm missing two of them. Jake: Mark Sanchez, David Clowney, Jay Feely, Nick Mangold and Kerry Rhodes. And Woody Johnson is also there too. So go to jaycayman.com and look that up. Again, just search for Twitter in the search. There's also the draft grades are up there as well as on the sidebar there's the draft the three draftees this year and in the facts section there's also a list of all the drafts who was drafted in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009 and you can view them all together and kind of get a view of where we've been and then the current poll on the on the Jet Kingdom is, do you like the Mark Sanchez pick? Currently, 87.5% of the people do like the Mark Sanchez pick. Justin: How many thousands of people lose that? Jake: That is all of eight people have voted so far. Justin: 8,000 people? Jake: 8,000 people minus 7,902. Justin: or 92 people. So, no that's 8 people. 8 people. Alright, great. It's a good turnout. Yeah. So, Jake: that's it for this episode. More than 8 people hear this, right? More than 8 people. Definitely more than 8. And with the Twitter falling, we love it. Follow us on Twitter. We watch, we listen, we will respond. Not knowing what's coming up soon, there's not much news, there's minicamps and whatever, but we'll pop in with a couple episodes now and again before we get to training camp. Until then, and as always, remember... Go Jats!
