00:09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Can't wait! Welcome to the Jet King Podcast. podcast ever my name is Jake and joining me from the itching to talk about the Jets category of life it's a good buddy Justin. Justin how you doing? Wow yep put that in post that's how I'm doing that is fabulous couldn't wait Justin: can't wait can't wait yeah like Jake: 21 days since we've done it pop has it you just looked at the dates. I certainly did Yeah, we apologize. It's been a while We make a couple weeks we make no excuses, but our excuses are that Justin: Look, we know the jets were here in the playoffs if the Jets were in the Championship games they didn't suck last year if they were still playing we'd be doing two podcasts a week Yeah, if they were in the Super Bowl we'd have done six podcasts in the last two weeks. We might even do one every day. Jake: No, we would have been doing podcasts from a hotel in New Orleans. From Radio Row. From Radio Row. I would have Mr. Tion. From the side of Radio Row in the back alley. It's interesting. I went to New Orleans last year. I know you're a big fan, but it's fun actually watching. When you've been to a place, it's kind of nice, because you're like, oh, I remember that place. Again, it's always amazing how they make it look. No smell vision from Bourbon Street, because that smell vision... Well, Bourbon Street smells in the morning. Justin: Yeah. Like, after everything's done and before they've cleaned the street. Jake: Yeah. Bad. Like, really bad. Justin: Yeah, like... Then they clean it, and it's like a mix of dirt and soap, which is not a clean smell either. But then people come. Jake: But then it dries out, and then people come, and they start to drink, and no one cares. Alright, so we have news. We're just gonna get into it. This episode, we're gonna talk about all the just news that's happened, and we haven't got to talk about it. Justin: Then we're gonna jump to the Super Bowl, right? Jake: Then we're gonna talk Super Bowl, and we're gonna make our final pick of the year. Final picks! And then we'll leave all the stuff that we're gonna talk about for the rest of it. We'll talk about... All that stuff, like we'll do our grades for the year, we'll do all that, we can do that in another episode when we have nothing else to talk about. Because there's gonna be weeks here of like nothing. So we'll come back again and again. So let's get into it. Did we hire a GM? We did, check. And his name is? John Idzik. And his past is? Justin: Who's with Seattle as a cap guy supposedly? No, very similar to my tea tea, okay which is weird because We wanted a football guy. Yeah. Well, that was the that was the conventional wisdom was that they were gonna hire a Guy that was you know, that's usually what you do you hire the opposite of what you just had
03:02 Justin: You know, you go from you know, her Medworth's boisterous to Eric Mangini quiet reserve to Rex Ryan boisterous, right? It's kind of what you do, but in this case we are in kind of a shitty cap situation So it might have actually made sense to hire a guy who's had some experience on the personnel side and and has helped with You know scouting and personnel decisions, but also has some Jake: some idea of how the fuck to get us out of the situation that we're in. Basically just hired a guy like, can you please go get us a Russell Wilson in the third round? We hired a consultant accountant guy. Justin: To get us in, right. Ah, Russell Wilson in the third round, that's great. But who knows who made that decision? I mean, he probably didn't. So whatever, I mean the guy is what he is, he's got a fucking mess to deal with. Jake: He's got a ton of guys making a ton of money. Here's the thing, I don't give a shit because you can't judge this GM until four years from now. Justin: Yeah, you kind of got to give him a couple drafts. It's not college. So you can't just say, you know, who you can pull in. Four years. So a whole recruiting cycle. You can't necessarily- But even a draft, you could go draft seven players. Yeah, but you can't necessarily- Jake: You could be like, there's the best players in the world you don't know until they play it. Justin: You can't say four years. You can judge a GM in two years. Jake: No, because you can't judge drafts for three years. That's not true. You can't look at- you can't- Culpals- you can't tell if Culpals was good or not until three years from now. Justin: Yeah, but you can say that we had a horrible draft. Jake: Yeah, I guess, but unless Copple's turn, Copple's turns into... Justin: Then you got a player, but the, so the Pats for the last bunch of years, the reason a lot of people say the reason why they haven't won a Super Bowl is because they lack depth at certain positions and it's because they've done an awful job drafting. over the course of the last like five to seven years, they just continuously trade picks and they don't actually pull in players. And you just lose. You lose out. Like we screwed up this past draft. Fine. If Coppos turns out great, then great. But still, from the fifth round on, none of those guys are on the roster. And that's where special teams players come from. And that's where you end up with guys who are the guys who actually make plays on special teams. Or the reason why you don't have to sign running backs off the street and wide receivers off the street. and cornerbacks off the street in the middle of the season, which we had to do all year long. We were we were signing guys left and right off the street to come in and play running back or to come in and play wide receiver like important positions, skill positions.
06:00 Justin: Yeah, it's not like, you know, Jake: right, right guard, but I think for any position. for any time you do that. Again, I think that's why you have to look at the body to work and the draft really doesn't show up as good, bad, or indifferent until it has a couple years to go. There are some that are just, you know, year one, Ferguson was a bust. He was a bust. But then over two, three, four years, oh yeah, he's pretty solid. Solid! You know, year one, Rivas and Mangold both looked like studs. Justin: Well, hold on. You've got years. You're screwing the years up. Jake: No. No, I'm not saying that. I'm not saying the same year. I'm saying that in the year one of these guys' careers, sometimes they look like most incredible things. But sometimes it takes two years before you find that the guy has the value. Right? Look what's going on now. Kaepernick was last year. They drafted him last year. In the third round or second round. Second round. If you looked at it last year for this kind of guy to be backing up whatever, up until he stepped on the field you went, What? That's not very good. Now you go, Oh! And if he turns into a turd next year, it's a bust. If he turns into the greatest thing that ever happened to football, Then it's so like you can't judge it on a year to year. You have to look over time. So you look back. Mangled, incredible draft, right? Incredible pick. Reavis, incredible pick. Dustin Keller, like where is that? Oh, you know, it's not as good. Who was the kicker we got in the second round? What's his face? Nugent. Nugent. Bust. You know? He's also a really good kicker. But he's a second round kicker. He's a bust. It's where you picked him. Well, if we go to captain, you would have been fine. But that's the other thing. You pick them in the third round. You pick a quarterback in the third round who becomes good. That was a... It's an amazing pick. That was a weird... I remember that draft. That was... We traded it up and down. That was a complete reaction to what had previously happened. Yeah. One missed field goal that kept us out of the... Two. Oh yes right, right too. Justin: Had two field goals, no two chances to make a field goal and win the game in Pittsburgh. Right. And missed both. But yeah. It's just a react, I mean that's just not bad. But you're not going to pick up a guy in the second round. Jake: Well that's called, just, that's called being. It's called stupid. Yeah I don't think that was 10 about me either, I think that was Bradway. Yeah. So anyway, I'm just saying that the draft to me is so much more black art than it is a science and it really has to do with the career of the player, not just their first year. So the GM, if he comes in and puts together a great team next year that looks like great on paper, they always look great on paper. We do the draft specials every year. We've been doing this since 2007. Every year we're like, that guy looks great. And then there's a guy in the fifth round. They're like, oh, what a great, he looks like he could be. And then he doesn't even get cut. And then you think, oh, that sucked. Or the year that we got only three players out of the whole draft. Justin: Wouldn't you say though, that this last year's draft was a bust?
09:01 Justin: I mean, so they drafted a running back in the sixth round. Right. And over the course of the season, They picked up two running backs. Jake: But is that the draft or is that just personnel use? Because why did we get rid of him? Who do we want to keep that we have with him? But that's the part of the draft. Justin: It's like, well, what other running back could we have drafted? Because we clearly needed to pick, we clearly needed a fourth running back on roster. But we didn't go into the season with four running backs on the rosters. What happened? Jake: So the giraffes suck because we lost a fourth round pick for something that was absolutely useless. Yeah. All right. So very fourth round is is still value. Like fifth round, sixth round, you're really out of value. You're into these special teams, players, these chances, these guys. But for the backs, I think running backs are there for the taking. Justin: Well, every year there's like a fourth, fifth, sixth round running back. That's like. Oh, okay, but it's one in a whatever. Well, there's an Alfred Morris out there. Jake: There's an Aryan Foster out there. These guys are not first round draft picks. Those are, but that's always the argument of, there's a Tom Brady out there. No, they're not. There's no Tom Brady out there. Justin: But there's a lot more, there's a lot more running backs out there in the fourth through sixth round than there are quarterbacks in the fourth through sixth round. Jake: Right. And so you pick up a special teams player, your punt blocker in the fourth round. And it looks really stupid. That's not why you draft them. No, but I'm saying we picked up a guy, if you look back at our draft, one of the big glaring holes of our draft was the fourth round was filled with a guy who was a punt block, a punt pass protector. Who the fuck are you talking about? Tim Tebow, fourth round of the pick. It wasn't a punt protector, he didn't even do that for half the season. He was nothing. Exactly, so it was nothing, it was a wasted draft spot. Right. I understand. All right. So arguing. Justin: We're like, no, but you know, this is what you want to hear. Back and forth. Jake: You wanted this back on the air. Here's John Idzik. Justin: That's it. GM, not a splashy name. Doesn't really do anything for me. This is I'm taking the wait and see approach to how he handles being so far over the cap with. Like, and I think we're losing half of our starters. If he's to get us somewhere respectively under the cap so that we can actually sign for you guys, yep, we're gonna lose about half our starters. Jake: Well, let's keep doing another list. I will tell you this to me has, this to me is, I mean, they're already, it's already in the papers already being, but this is the hot seat is like. Because everybody knows you bring in a GM and then you get your coach Right. It's very rare. He wasn't allowed to know he what right so think about that He wasn't allowed so that he brought in with the theory that if you come in your Rex's best buddy But if that doesn't work out are you gonna fire the guy he just hired? No. Or are you going to fire the guy who was on the hot seat? Justin: The GM, if they have a bad year next year, Rex is gone. That's it. Don't fire the GM after one year.
12:00 Jake: That's what I'm saying. I feel like this is just setting us up for failure. Justin: Well you can look at what happened in Chicago, same thing with Lovey Smith. They picked up a GM, they said the GM basically had Lovey as a lame duck. And he fired him and they went 10 and 6. They fired him anyway. Jake: So I think you're giving validity to what I'm saying and what I don't like about the situation is this doesn't seem, this seems like a lose-lose. Like the... Rex isn't this GM's guy. He has in the back of his head some guy. That's his guy or guys that he wants. So like the only way for Rex to survive, and I still think that Rex is we did this argument the other day. I think we got the top 12, but he's a top 12 head coach in the league. I guess if he fails this next year, then he drops down from top 12 down. Justin: And there's... Lots of new coaches in the league. Jake: Alright, so he did have a comment about Sanchez. I almost called him Suck-Chez. I think I'll just have to... We have to last season be last season. That's it. Justin: What are you going to do with him? There's nothing that he could... Well, he's part of our cat problem. Well, then that's it. You gotta live with it. That's it. Yeah deal with it. Suck it life. He's the quarterback. That's enough said I'm sure it'll bring in some cheapo guy, but you can't really more Fine, whatever. That's fine with me. It's about right Only problem that I have with like Matt Moore is that they're I think they're Jake: Like almost equal like it's not like you could sit there. Do you want someone better than Sanchez? Oh, yeah, if ideally yeah Justin: Then you'd then why not just get rid of Sanchez and get someone better cuz you can't just take a you can't do it That is actually impossible It's not possible. It is impossible unless you draft someone We're gonna be talking turns out to be better than Sanchez and a few because it's him. It's impossible to get rid of a guy that when you get rid of him, he's gonna cost you 15, 17, some odd million dollars against your cap, then go out and spend that on somebody else. It's actually impossible. It's not impossible. Jake: But you can't do it. Look down at the end of this agenda and there's a way in there. We have we have some gold in the hills. Not really. All right, let's keep talking offensive coordinator. Do we have one? We do His name is marty morning. Wake marty morning. Wake so not Necessarily, what are you? I'm already asking. Do you know anything about marty? You know what? I've read up about him, but I think I've forgotten everything around right don't want me to fill you in a little bit of Marty's is he one of the marty's Marty? He's a marty. He's not the one I wanted. I know you know, I think I think I know he's a West Coast offense guy. Justin: So speaking the one I wanted is Norv. I think Cleveland has a really good coaching staff. Like they're gonna turn out, I think Cleveland might be good. They might turn out to be a decent team. Early prediction. Cleveland might be a sleeper. All right, so Marty.
15:01 Justin: Morning White came up through like the Mike Holmgren tree of Green Bay assistance Went and Went off and I think I have a feeling I don't know his whole history But I feel like as part of that tree there was Steve Marraucci who was Offensive coach who went and was the head coach in Detroit be like morning. We went with him And they were okay and then Morning Wig got a chance when Mariuchi was fired because they were bad to be the head coach and they were even worse. He had a 1 in 15 season, one season fired. But sometimes guys are not head coaches, they're coordinators. So then he went with Andy Reed, part of the same tree and was his offensive coordinator with the Eagles. I think they had some success there. I think they did a pretty good job with that offense. Some people think it's telling that Reed got a new job and didn't take morning away with him. Kansas City. He could have. Could have. Jake: I mean, right? He totally could have, but he didn't. I think. Yeah, but also you don't know if Marty wanted a different... Here's... so if I'm Marty, just to give you an example. Right. If I'm Marty, if I follow Andy out to Casey, they're gonna keep Andy there for three, four years, no matter what he does. So my chance of going bumping up or slower. If I follow... I know this is crazy talk, but if I follow over to the jazz... and sexy rexy bites the big one, there's always a chance I get poached back up. Yes, there is. Justin: Well, I'll tell you why that's not, why that won't happen. Jake: Because you had a 1-15 scene like Pete Carroll. Justin: That's just one reason. I don't think Pete Carroll ever had that. So let's put that aside. Jake: You had a 1-15 season? No. Justin: Pretty sure he did. No. I believe that to be incorrect. I'm just making it up. You are. But Marty Morningweg, if the Jets, if the Jets are to fire Rex Ryan, it will not be because the defense sucked. It will be once again because the offense sucked. So they couldn't win games. If they don't win games, it's generally because the offense can't score. Right. In these four years, I've learned one thing. But if you're Marty, the Jets defense can play. Jake: You gave me butt fumble. Oh, that's the thing. He is a quarterback-friendly coach. He's coached up some quarterbacks. Can I ask a question? This is stupid, but I want to ask a question. He's coached up some quarterbacks. Are there fucking offensive coordinators who are not quarterback-friendly? Tony Sperano. He didn't know how to coach quarterback. Justin: He didn't know how to make Sanchez better. It made him worse. He didn't know how to put in a system. He didn't know how to call plays to make the quarterback look good. Did he? Jake: Did Vic look good? And does Vic look good because of Vic or Vic look good because of Marty? Justin: Vic looked as... Good as he's ever looked because of Marty because of how the offense that they ran the weapons ahead and the weapons that they had the.
18:23 Justin: Obviously you have LeShawn McCoy standing next to you. You stand there in a and So what do you think about going to the- So what do you think about going to the west- the, 8% and Sanchez never touched 60. Jake: Right, but what it does, Last down the field. Last down the field, but also it's also, you can simplify the reads because you can, what he did with Vic, and so I did do my homework, is he would say read half the field and that's it. Like it is one, two, go. Justin: That's because Vic could roll out one way, read the half the field because he's already there. And if nothing's open, he could throw it away or run. Or totally. Sanchez doesn't necessarily have those skills. With that said, T-Bo does not work in this offense. So don't all the T-Bo people who are out there, which I don't think there are any anymore. He's so gone. It's not even funny. I wish he was trade bait. So, morning WEG, I like the idea. I think he can coach up a quarterback. I think he can... He has a system, he has a philosophy. And I don't think we've had, I've said this before about, Sprounopathetic. I've said this before about about Marty. Not Marty, no, I'm playing. Shottenheimer. The best job he did was his first year with the Jets because it looked like he had a system and he had a philosophy. Then Pennington in the second year got hurt. So Pennington, for all his faults, was as smart as smart could be and could run whatever system you wanna run. And he ran it and he ran it well. Second year he got hurt, you're stuck with, you know, Kellen Clemens and whoever the fuck else started in any other games. Third year he's stuck with Farr, Farr can't change. So he's got acquiesced to that. As always, thanks for watching. We'll be right back. the rookie Sanchez, so he's got to change again. So I think Sean Nimer got kind of like a raw thing, but he never really, over the three years he had with Sanchez and Rex, to me went back to his style or his offense. You're gonna see an offense with the Jets now that actually has. ... a real, like, there'll be a style. We'll actually have a style of play
21:01 Justin: that will be run left, run right, run up the middle, run up the middle, run left, in front I'm right. And, oh, drop back to pass, but we don't have any receivers and we don't know, we didn't design any, we don't know how to design passing plays because we're a running team. game. and nobody's open. So throw it into triple coverage or throw it out of bounds or take a sack. Jake: I think what's going to be interesting, or I want to look back, because Brian wasn't an, was he an off, he was an offensive coordinator. We hired, he was a first time offensive coordinator. Sperano was a head coach. And a offensive line coach. Right. Never call plays ever in his life. So what I am excited about this at least, and if you're what you're saying makes sense, is this guy has had this job in the past. It's not like he's going, he's not Peter Principal. In fact, he is the Peter Principal. He's been promoted beyond himself before and Justin: failed. And he was the head coach of one of those really bad Lions teams that was going to be bad no matter who the coach was. That's unfortunate for him. Jake: Well, I don't really care. I think it's good because I think there's, I think there's a point to going up and coming back down. Justin: Cam Cameron. He even proved, I mean, fuck. This is his offense. He's just not calling the plate. Yeah, I know. It's kind of a shame for him. Jake: It's actually thought he was a decent offensive coordinator. I mean, I just think him, I think the problem was him and Flacco didn't get along. Yeah, and that's it. He had nothing to do with the call and the play. His offense. Just Caldwell's calling the plate. They did not change the offense. Justin: It's run the ball at Ray Rice Run the ball roll the ball down the field as far as you can cuz you got a big arm and that's that's that Jake: Yep, we'll talk about the Super Bowl later Defense coordinator, so let's give some grades John Isaac eight eight F. I have no fucking well. No, let's give what? Justin: Okay, I have I don't know who he is I don't know I know nothing about the man Can't say what moves he made or didn't make in Seattle either all I know is Seattle got better the last three years great Jake: I'll give him a C Marty I like this higher. I give it a B an optimistic a Justin: Plus hope that he can get I really hope that He can turn Jake: quarterback's career around whom I still believe in man all right next up do we Justin: have a dance coordinator yeah there's Thurman good hire yeah he's been he's been with Rex for years he came over with Rex from Baltimore I think we get a puppet it's the same It's gonna be the same defense. It's Rex always said this is a Rex Ryan, Penton, Thurman defense. He always included Dennis Thurman as part of that. He's the secondary coach. Probably the best section of our defense has been the secondary over the last four years. Yep. So good hire for them. By the way, oddly enough. Just going back to the offense for a second. They hired a new quarterback coach
24:00 Justin: Okay, and you know who they hired. I don't know is that a man. I can't remember his name the guy from the Bills Who was the guy who? Came up with the wildcat while Sperano was in Miami. They were together in Miami. Sperano and this guy, I think his last name's Lee. I can't remember. Who coached Kent Penton? Who coached that year, yeah, when they came up with the wildcat. He apparently went over to Sperano on an airplane and said, I just watched some college game and they were running this offense. And I think it'll work. with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. And it did for a little while. And then he went and coached in Buffalo. He was the quarterback coach. Now we hired him this year. He's now our quarterback coach. It doesn't seem like a great career. Anyway, so Dennis Thurman. Jake: Yeah, cool. So overall... I just, I guess I'm so, I'm so like... What are you gonna do? I mean, it's gonna be the same defense. Yeah. Justin: It's really all about the offense. This team is all about the offense and the offense could just not get in its own way. Not fucking throw the mind picks. And just score a few points, hold onto the ball, don't make the defense be on the field. Don't make the defense have to... play from the other, you know, don't give them the, don't turn the ball over on the 20. Like just be confident. Jake: I would say the game that keeps sticking in my head from the whole season, we'll do, talk about the season, you know, after the Super Bowl, but it was really that Tennessee game, that Titans game. Yeah. That game proved the entire thing. That was the difference between That was this team. It was a team that couldn't get out of its own way Against a team that they had no reason to lose, but they kept giving up between mistakes on defense Well, I think some guy run 102 yards from those be one Mistake on defense to throw in five pegs thrown all the pecs was the problem to not catch I mean, it's just brutal brutal. Anyway We got two more pieces of news. I think we should reverse them because I think they're in reverse reverse them. So Justin: Let's just throw it out there, Reavis. Jake: It's in the news. It's in the news. People are- Justin: Manish, Manish like a dick, Manny. I hate that fucking dick. He just makes shit up, I swear. Jake: Well, you see, one of the things that is a funny- I swear to you he makes shit up. I swear to you he does. In one of these posts, like one of these funny, like, oh, what should, what should Izzik do first day? First day he said- Kill Manish Mehta. He said Manish. He said, Nish, someone else, and Gary, and whatever he said, you guys get the fuck out of my thing. I don't ever want to see you around here again, ever. It is, there is- Justin: The media fucks this team. They really do. They like to. I'm telling you they make shit up. They sell these papers doing it. I'm telling you they make shit up. I'm telling you they put things in their paper with anonymous bullshit that riles people up. They, the Giants control the Giants message.
27:00 Jake: The media controls the Jets message and it's such bullshit. Good point. Let's get on to the Rebus trade. So it's out there that there's the possibility, I don't think it was we're trading him, it's, we're looking at options. Everything's on the table. Here's a guy who has got to come back from knee surgery. He's got to do rehab. I think a lot of the comments out there have been, you know, why would you sell low basically? Like the guys at the least valuable... I don't even see it that way. Well, he is at the least valuable he's ever been. I don't even see that as a true statement. If any point other in history, even after his first season, he had more value than he has right now. I don't see that as a true statement. Well, here's why. Here's why. He has one more year left in his contract, which he cannot be capped for. He wants to be paid... the most money ever paid to a defensive player ever in the history of Football he wants to make quarterback money, right? And he is also shown in the past that he is very tough on the Goshen. He will hold out Justin: He will good hold out You know what that does that means all that shit goes away because then you're under contract for three more years Jake: So hold on well that well that that's what we built into the cause for last time anyway I know you want to keep Revus. Of course. Because you love Revus. Who doesn't? Well, for everything there's a value. You tell me you want to keep Revus, or you want four first round picks, I'll take four first round picks. Justin: All right, so let's be realistic about it. Jake: There's a value for him. What's the value? What's the value you're willing to give up Revus? You, Justin, and Edo. So. Back when we traded Kishon, we got two first round picks for Kishon Johnson. Justin: And we ended up, I don't know who the second pick was, but the first pick was was either Sean Ellis or John Abraham. We drafted them both in the same year. I don't know who was the next year's thing. If we're gonna trade Rebus, I want at least two first-round picks and I think two first-round picks is probably the thing where it will shake out. Now let me tell you why like I don't think it's selling low because A, we just watch Adrian Pearson come back and do like exactly from the same injury just and he did it way later in the year and he came back stronger than He was before even. Like he had his best season ever. True, true. Reavis' game is not predicated on being the fastest guy on the field. Before the injury, if you lined up Reavis and Cromartie and said, run from the goal line to the other goal line, and Cromartie would smoke him. That doesn't mean Cromartie's better at covering guys. Jake: Well, here's one of your things that you have to consider is that when Reavis went down, It didn't take a huge chunk out of our past D. Yeah, but that's also a misnomer. Justin: Okay. That's a statistical misnomer. While the Jets' passing defense was statistically great this year,
30:05 Justin: their rushing defense was shit. Oh, and by the way, they lost a shit ton of games, so no one was throwing on them. When you're getting your ass kicked and you're losing getting blown out, we got shut out a few times. When you're losing by 15, 20, people are running on you. And if you're letting them run on you, they're going to keep running on you. So that whole thing's a misnomer. Kyle Wilson is not Cromartie and Cromartie is not Rebus. It's a domino effect. And whoever was playing in the slot is not Kyle Wilson. So when you get the three of those guys out there... That's a whole different ball game. That's like shut down, lock down, you can't throw. Versus you don't have to throw because you're beating us by 15 already. Okay. And you wouldn't be beating us by 15 if you couldn't throw on us. Jake: Well, no, I mean half of our beating us because we keep throwing a ball or whatever. Justin: But, and even still, I think Reavis is one of the best tacklers on the team. . . . . you Like he's a great tackler. He has tackles, running backs. They're trying to run outside, etc. True. That said, I think if someone said to us now, right? Because Reavis is making about six million bucks this upcoming year, 2013 season, right? And then he's a free agent unless he holds out and he can't be, he can't be, um, franchise. So he's like free agent, free agent, free agent. Like he's. He's in the wind. He can go wherever the hell he wants. If someone were to say I'm going to give you two first round draft picks for him, the next question would be who's that team? Because I would not take two first round draft picks from, let's say, the San Francisco 49ers or the Green Bay Packers. Jake: Well, it's going to be a team that has two first rounders. Well, not everybody has no two years worth. Yeah. Yeah, that's how Justin: So like when New England traded Richard Seymour for two first round picks to Oakland They got one year and then the next year, right? That's how it would work. So we'd have two first round picks in The next two years our own and whatever this other well Jake: They're our team to have two coming up because they've done trade Justin: So I guess they could get their whole first round away if they want to but I would want it to be a... You can just say top 15. Jake: Well, you just have to say that the pick has to be a top 15 pick. Yeah, I want them to be a bad team and like not have very good prospects either. If you're doing that, what are you doing that with Revas? I don't know. This is... I'm allowed to set the conditions here. I mean... Justin: You know, I'd want to do it with someone in the NFC. I don't want to run into Rebus in the in the AFC. I don't want to run into him in the playoffs or anything like that. Right. You know, I certainly don't want to trade him in division. Like I wouldn't want to trade him the Dolphins or the Bills or God forbid the Pats. Right. You know, I wouldn't want to do that. I wouldn't I wouldn't want to trade him. Really to anybody who I thought had a chance to win like I I guess in the AFC
33:04 Justin: I'd trade him to the Raiders or like, you know one of those fucking teams or like Cleveland or something like even though I said Cleveland's a sleeper like I'd trade him to Cleveland, but I wouldn't trade him to like You know anyone who didn't have a pick that was of use to me Because I don't want I don't want the Niners 31st pick or 32nd pick and then next year I have like the 28th pick like that doesn't do anything for me for Rebus Ideally, we'd be able to resign them and I seen some other things where it's like hmm Maybe if you're gonna trade you trade come already. Maybe trade chromatic Jake: I don't know, I don't think he has the same value. Well he does not have the same, but he still has value. In the world of corners in the planet, he's still top 8. Justin: Yeah, and I mean the only thing that does worry me is, is um, like the Nnamdi situation. Jake: And how that played out, and how Nnamdi awesome one just... turned to Omni not so awesome. Just turned into the just he's just he's awful. He gets burnt every week. Justin: You watch because they throw him out there on an island, the Reavis Island. Yeah. And they're like, Nomdee Island. Let's see it. And it's like fucking full of burnt toast. Jake: It's terrible. So, yeah, I mean, I have the. Justin: I don't want, I want him to be a jet his whole career. I want to win a Super Bowl with Dorell Reavis. Jake: I understand, but if he is going to hit the cap at the tremendous amount so we can put no, I mean, one of your things we're saying, and hold on a second, one of the things we're saying about the jets is we have no depth and we're way over the cap. Well, he is part of... And if we pay him, then we're games. I'm sorry Tom Brady doesn't go eight Nate ever I'm sorry ever when we made those Justin: championship runs yeah through Elvis one of them he was he was hurt no yeah I'm pretty sure he was don't even try it through Elvis wins games because the Jets win games on defense that's how the Jets win games under this Jake: Present scheme. I think here's my prediction and we'll if it happens to be true if I'm the general manager Justin: This is your prediction if it happens, it'll be true. No, if it happens out, I'll be our life works Jake: Well, we'll talk with only if the suitable picks I Have this feeling that So two of the big things are gonna hit next year. Sanchez, he's up, right?
36:00 Jake: He's got one more year. Justin: Sanchez, we could get rid of next year, I think. Right. Jake: After next year. Rivas is next year. Rivas is up. Well, right. Justin: If we don't reassign him, he's totally gone. Jake: That's what I'm saying. He's gone. And then Rex is on his last year. I could and Rex is a Reavis guy, Sanchez is a Reavis guy. Everybody's a Reavis guy. Sorry, no, Rex guy. Rex is a Reavis is a Rex guy. No, Reavis is a jet. Justin: Yeah. Sorry. He was drafted prior to Rex. Jake: But who loves him more than anything is Rex. Justin: Why wouldn't. He's a defensive head coach who has the best fucking defensive player in the league. Why would he not be? Jake: So here's the thing. I feel like this team, what they're going to do. is next year is a, I hate this term, next year's rebuilding year and they start fresh. Rex goes, I'm making the prediction. Rex, Sanchez, Rivas, gone. We have lots of cap space and we start again with a new head coach, new quarterback. whole thing. Justin: There's no reason to not include Dorell Reavis as part of the moving forward plan. Jake: Money. That's just stupidity. If he costs one third of G I'm sure he wants- It's not gonna cost a third of the cap. There's ways to- He wants to be paid with the money, but he wants to be paid the money that we would pay a quarterback. There's ways to do it. Who are the two corners on the 49ers? Carlos Rogers and I don't know the other one. Who are the two quarters? But I don't follow the 49., and the Ds. But I a. the and a and,-, and a a You know them. Well, I know the one on the other guy. You can name all four of them Well, you can't do it. You're not a football fan. But who is the who's the who's the linebacker on the on the Ravens? Who's the safety on the Raven? I know I know they're high-end guys and wait wait till flacko says I want Drew Brees money But he's a quarterback. Let's see how that works. He gets quarterback money. Let's see how that works. Corners don't get quarterback money. Do you get that? Like... No, I don't like that. Justin: You think Corners get quarterback money? No, and he's not gonna get quarterback money. He wants quarterback money. He's not gonna get quarterback money from anybody. Nobody's gonna pay him like a quarterback. But why can't the best? the a The best defensive player in the league Jake: Get paid like the best defensive player in player the We don't have him though. No, I'm not saying it's him, I'm blaming Rebus. Justin: I'm saying it's not him. It's not like yeah, we're in the coffers. It's not like we're in this terrible spot because Dorell Reavis on a terrible spot because of other guys who are getting paid over their pay grade and are not performing.
39:06 Justin: But guys who perform, I mean, so he had a freak injury this year and he hurt his ACL, but before that it was like... Jake: He had the season that he was out for the first three or four games with a ham. He was a douche and he held out, right? Anyway, I love Reavis. I want him on my team forever. I'm just saying there's a reality of the situation and we're getting to again that reality. I'm telling you I predict. I don't want it to happen. You know what I want? I want next year to win the Super Bowl with Mark Sanchez and Darryl Reavis and everybody's happy. Sean Green can run in the final touchdown. I'm gonna shit. Sean Green won't be on the team. Alright, there you go. Anyway, I think it's just a put, there's no, I don't think the jets have, the jets have to, if they're going to trade them, they have to trade them now because they only have, because they have one, right? Because he's, he basically, but, so I think they're just doing what they have to do. Justin: But they also, if they're not going to trade them, then they kind of have to re-sign them now. No. Yes. Cause otherwise then he's gone and you got nothing for him. No, you can re-sign him during the year. No. That doesn't work. Yeah it does. No it doesn't. Jake: Alright. Well I disagree. Alright, let's talk about what else doesn't work. Cause we're at 39 minutes in this bag. Justin: You know who doesn't work? My dad and my wife did. Jake: So apparently he was doing a media day and radio row at the Super Bowl. Oh my god, I was in my car. Yeah. Justin: And I was driving somewhere for an hour. So I had the... the ability to flip between all the different channels. Yes. So I start on NFL Network. Good choice. And they've got Mike Pereira on. Okay. I flip up to Mad Dog. He's got Mike Pereira on. Okay. I flip over to Francesca. He gets Mike Pereira on like all in a row like they just literally just walk down the line That's funny. So I heard like the same interview three times. I was hoping you'd tell like different stories Why didn't you just flip back to the first one and get off Mike Pereira? I don't know It was commercials and I was just flipping whatever Um, so tannenbaum I heard Most of his interview on Francesa, which might have been the only place he actually did like a radio thing because that's actually a New York show, as opposed to the other ones which are national. And he... You know, he was... he said he was very proud of what he did. Yep. He was the GM for seven years. That's pretty good. He had a winning record. He made the playoffs three times out of seven. He had a winning record... I think it was four times out of seven and had one 500 season. So five out of seven times he didn't have a losing record. Made two AFC Championship games, made a bunch of good draft picks, a couple bad ones, a couple good ones though. He was perplexed by the Mark Sanchez thing. We had perplexed. He was just perplexed by it. He was like he couldn't underst- like you know
42:05 Justin: Francesca kept pushing him like you had this guy he won all these road playoff games and it looked like he was on his way up and then what happened and He kind of without blaming he He might have nudged Sperano towards the bus a little bit Yeah Like he said it didn't make sense to him because it's like, you know, you signed this guy and now you're in this big Not you but the Jets are in the jam because they're stuck with him and he's like, here's my rationale. I've got a guy who, you know, after his first three years in the league, won more than 30 games, one of five quarterbacks to have ever done that ever in the history of the NFL. He got better from year to year to year, even though the third year you could say he regressed, he was, he accounted for 32 touchdowns. 3 for 26 ran for six more. it looked like, and I had no reason to believe that he wasn't going to just keep getting better, so I thought I was locking him in to a good thing as opposed to what Baltimore is about to do, which is get raped by Flacco. Because Flacco's not that good, ladies and gentlemen, but he's in the Super Bowl, and he wins a lot of games, so... They're gonna have to pay him, like big time bucco bucks. Yeah. And he's not that. He's not, I don't think Joe Flacco's franchise quarterback, but they're gonna have to pay him like one. Jake: He's playing like one. I don't think he is. I think he just chucks the ball down the field. But his wins and his, same thing as Eva Sanchez can be held for Joe Flacco. Man, the kid is just one playoff game after playoff game after playoff game. I know. And season after season after season and it's consistently wins. I know this is crazy, I just don't think he's that good. I just don't think you like him. I just don't think he's that good. Well, but the stats prove otherwise. He wins. He wins. And he is winning, like he's, that's not him. Yes, he hands off the ball. Yes, he has weapons. Yes, he has a great defense. But he's also the guy who whips the ball down the field and has that thing happen. He throws the ball down the field. Sanchez whips it down and he gets picked six every single time. Justin: It's a great offense. You got... Two really good receivers, one's faster than everybody on the field, and he runs down the field and you throw it to him. Jake: It's good offense. Great weapons. It's good offense. You just throw it down the field. It's not as simple as that, and you know it. And he also goes into some of the hardest places to win and win. I know. We're into a place that we won. I'm very glad. Justin: that they're gonna pay him that money. I love the fact that they're gonna have to pay him a shit ton of money. I want Baltimore to pay him $20 million a year. I love it. Makes me hard. Gives me a bone. Jake: For him. All right, so more about Mr. T. He took the blame for everything. Justin: He said every decision's my decision. Final decisions with me, T-Bo thing. He had a vision for it. He took everything on the chin and a good soldier. Jake: Yep, Woody kind of did the reverse and Woody said he got pushed on me. Douchebag.
45:00 Jake: You got douchebag. Don't do it. Justin: Just shut up. I hate it. He's like, you know, after the fact, Tebow got pushed on me in the middle of the season. Can't get enough Tebow. Right. Well, he never can't get enough. Remember, they... No, that was... That's a direct quote. Oh, he said, I can't get enough Tebow. We can't get enough Tim Tebow. direct quote. So yeah. But Mr. T took it and he said look, when I look back I thought I did a good job. Winning, won with two different coaches, made the playoffs, made the A's Championship game, had some good drafts. Jake: Yada yada yada yada yada. I mean overall he did have a good job and I don't think I don't think he actually was the problem Or is the problem of what happened this year? I think this year was a shitstorm. Were there some bad decisions? Do here's the thing do I think that? John idzic is gonna come in and do so much better than then then Justin: But you had to fire somebody not build Poli and he's not gonna come in and just Jake: He's not going to recreate, he's not going to recreate it in an image and make it to be amazing. Now if he does, I will eat my words. But I just feel like maybe the thing about Tana Mom is he just did come up through the organization and he hadn't done it. Justin: He was there for 16 years. Jake: Yeah, but he didn't do it somewhere else. Like there is something about learning from a different, from going to different teams and doing the same job. Justin: Well he did. He was, he was with... Jake: But he was never the GM. Justin: Oh no, no, no, no. Jake: That's what I'm saying. Well, neither was Idzik. Idzik wasn't GM at Seattle? No. What do you think? We hired a GM away from a team? Oh, that sucks. So it's just some other guy we've given a... Justin: I think we just hired... Oh, hey GM of team that just went to champion, you know, went to NFC divisional game and has a really nice bright young future with all these young players. We'll see you in the next video. Hey GM, come on over and do it for us, because you know, you've been in a great situation. Jake: Because there's no, well there's no, by the way it rains a lot in Seattle. Justin: But there's no, by the way they don't lose in Seattle. Jake: But there's no, there's no cap on what you pay coaches. So you can just, hey, what are you making? Three million? I'll give you four. Oh, a million dollars more? Sure, I'm coming. No way. All right, whatever. GMs don't do that. Feel what they do. I feel like I could come up with a scenario Anyway, fucking well, then I don't like that. I even like to pick less. I wanted someone who had experience at the job That's why like Marty's Marty is cuz I want someone has experience doing the thing Justin: We're asking you to do you got a guy who's Never been in jam before But Tannebem was on the, Tannebem was on Bello-Czech's 95 Cleveland team. Jake: Yeah, he's a lifer. With May and Jeannie. Yeah, they all have connections. And Bello-Czech. All right, so overall, how much of the blame out of a pie of 100%, how much of the blame for last season do you give to Tannebem? Justin: Like who else is in the pie? Jake: Anybody else you want? Justin: You can put the fans in the pie. I can put Reavis in the pie, I can put Sanjas in the pie,
48:02 Justin: I can put you in the pie, put me in the pie. Jake: I can put Farm and Ed in the pie. But Farm and Ed, quitter. I'm gonna give Tannenbaum a clean. 20%. Yeah, I was gonna say 20, 25%. That's about what I felt. I just feel like they weren't prepared for the worst. Justin: Like when you're- They were hoping for the best. When your big guns go down. Jake: Yeah. And you're not ready for it? I don't think he got any credit for the things that he did right last year with the safeties. We went from the safeties over the year before having absolute shit. Yeah, he did a great job there. it. to like a pro bowler. Justin: It was a total patch job though. Like it's not like we're gonna have both those guys back in any sort of continuity next year. No, because we gotta cap room. Jake: All right, let's make our Super Bowl picks. First of all, let's talk about where we are in terms of our Jet Kingdom pick-em. How you doing, buddy? Um, not as good as you. I think no, I don't think so, but I'm pretty sure. Justin: No, there's only one guy, but I've lost. Jake: I cannot. You can't win. I know that. And I think I'm like just under or just over 500. Oof. Where I'm horrible. Where? Oh God, you really are bad. Where am I? You're 120 129. So 129 to 131. No, sorry, you've lost more. Sorry, I cannot get to 500. You cannot even get to 500. Justin: It can be one game under 500. Man, you suck at this. Jake: That's awesome. Yeah, so it's basically Matty and I. He is at 144, so he can get to 145 or 141. You can't win. But the drop off from there is to 133. Yeah, you guys had great seasons. That's really good picking. What's the win percentage on that? I don't know 141 to 119. That's great. I think we would have won some money. Oh, I went to Vegas I did win some money. So there you go. Um It's cuz I made the pics for you. No, you didn't I've made that bet and you put it in I bet those teams Oh, yeah, you made the bet. That's my bet. But I was there with you backed on my bed Two other bets I won without you and then made another great bet Seven to one odds. Good for you. So let's talk about, so what are you gonna bet on? I know what you're betting on. So let's talk about the Super Bowl. Let's do it. Are you excited? No. Really? Really. I'm excited. You know I'm not excited. I don't hate anybody on these teams, which is really nice. I really. And I don't hate the teams. Well, here's the thing. When the Patriots are there. I do. Justin: Really dislike Baltimore, so I have a real rooting interest. I'm rooting for the 49ers. Why do you hate why do you hate ball? I just hate them. I hated I hated when we went there last year at night. I hated that I hated that whole atmosphere I really don't like Ray Lewis all that much. Yeah, I don't like Joe Flacco. I just don't like that He'll fuck all the way to win. Yeah, I don't know he's elite You know I don't like him because they're in the AFC and all they do is win like I don't I don't like teams like they they're like a tangential rival to the Jets. Yeah, I feel like we're Rex came from exactly. I just don't like them. So I have a rooting interest, which is good. The
51:02 Justin: reason I don't really like I'm really not that excited like, you know, you go to like a Super Bowl party and like there's people there that they're just there. They're not there to watch the game they're just there to like be at the party So they're just talking over the game and I just want to like sit there and just blast the volume and watch the game That's not what you're gonna do No, because I'm super world party. So like I'll watch the game but like people are there talking. You're a super party always Yeah, always. Yeah, I'll sit by myself and watch the super bowl. I don't ever have to sit by myself Jake: I'm gonna sit in my own apartment Surrounded by beers and well-cooked food, and I'm gonna watch the Super Bowl. Justin: I will do the same. Jake: But I will not have people talking. 12 friends. I'll just shut the fuck up. Justin: So whatever, I mean, and I don't really, I don't really care who wins. I mean, I bet on a team, so I want them to win, but if betting were legal, and it is the state of Nevada. It is in the state that you bet on. Jake: So... Justin: Not bad, I'm not really looking that much forward to it. I'm kind of like over it at this point, just because the Jets did so bad this year. Jake: Yeah, but that's where I get over that, and then I think of what are my rooting interests, and what are my, so I went last year, Giants Patriots, it was very clear. Justin: Yeah, I was way more excited for last year's game. Jake: Yeah, but then I could get to the Giants thing, but then it was also like, I'm in New York, and if the Giants win again, oh my God, I'll never hear the end of the game, which happened. end. I got totally sick of that. So I like that in this, it's like, well, the 49ers win. Okay, they have yet another championship. If the Baltimore Ravens win, okay, they have their second championship. Well, I don't care. That's like, you know, so I'm kind of rooting for the AFC. By the way, speaking of the Ravens and their second championship. Yeah, it is their second championship, right? This would be. Justin: Have you ever seen the... I think it was in NFL films, one of those America's games or whatever they do that night when they left that thing. That serious thing. They did it on the Browns, on the Belichick Browns. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You ever seen it? No. You gotta see it. It's so good. And like... It's the family tree from the Browns basically. I mean the Ravens, I mean they would have won in Cleveland. Because you know they, that squad drafted you know Ray Lewis like that was like the start of it. And then they moved to Baltimore. They would have won in Cleveland and they would have had Belichick. They probably would have won more. Right. Because they would have had Belichick and that whole crew. They probably would have been like the dynasty that the Pats became. And it would have just been Cleveland just three or four years earlier. Instead of being the Pats, it would have been the Ravens. I
54:00 Justin: Also, it's like built to win so fuck them. I hate them. I'm picking them to lose. I don't want them to win Not only do I not want them to win. I don't think they're gonna win Because I think San Francisco is just better. I just think they're a better team Jake: They're really good. I watched them kick the shit out of the jets Yeah, I also watched the 49ers give a play against the Falcons who I don't think is a good team and they Didn't I mean they had to play catch-up big time. They don't have a thousand one. They beat the shit out of them Justin: Yeah, I don't think the Falcons have the Baltimore Ravens defense So go ahead make a prediction, but the Baltimore Ravens don't have a Falcons offense. So the Flacco can't do what Matt Ryan did in that game. Jake: With, I'm sorry,, R Baltimore Ravens. I picked the Packers. Justin: Then you can sit on a fucking stick. Jake: No, it's still pretty fricking good. I picked one of the two Super Bowl teams. That's good. That's pretty good. I'm pretty impressed, because I think the Ravens were a little bit of a long shot. Okay. Considering the Patriots and the Giants, we're gonna go back and the Greenment Packers, we're gonna go right back. Good for you. Like the 40, I mean, now. What's crazy is out of those four teams in the championships, three of them were there last year. Three of them were there last year. And I remember this is sucks. It was a stat. No. Parodies. It's not a stat. Fucking awesome. We were there for two years in a row. That's where we should be. They lost three AFC championship games, or two AFC, no, three AFC championship before they won one. Who's they? Ravens. They lost last year, they lost that one, I think not two years ago, but the year before that. I mean, here's the secret to the Super Bowl. And I know this is so stupid, you know, it's like it's not even worth saying. You gotta get to the playoffs and then you gotta get on a roll, but you're never gonna, there's one off teams like the Cardinals and all that. You want to be the team that's consistently in the playoffs every year sure you're gonna get sure you're gonna get to be the Patriots And sure they're always there They're gonna bust through and they might move like you gotta be there So I think I think this is the Ravens time I think it's the Ravens time because of just sort of the hype more experience I think they're more experienced and I think that's gonna I think that's going to help them in this team. I really like Kaepernick. I really like the 49ers. I actually think they're a fun team to watch. I think he's a fun player and he's a great story. But I honestly think that there's something with the experience of the Baltimore defense
57:06 Jake: Here's another thing. The 49ers defense is 25, 25th against the pass. That just seems to me is like set up all day long. I think they're, they're right. Why do you think that that's like good? It's not good. Well, but why do you think that's good for the matchup? Because I think the Ravens, that's what they want to do. They want to run against you and then they want to pass. Right. But if they can't run against you. They're going to take the shot. But if they can't run against you, then it ruins that pass. Yeah, I think Michael Turner, that old man down in Falcons, was making, was busting big 20 yard plays. Justin: No, no. No, Matt Ryan beat them in the first half. Had nothing to do with Michael Turner. It was Julio Jones that couldn't cover him. Hit 100 yards in the first half. Jake: Great. Roddy White. Are they gonna be able to cover Torrey Smith? Are they gonna be able to cover Ancon Bolden? What'd they do in the second half? They started scoring. Justin: Roddy White and Julio Jones are better than both of those guys. Jake: Yes. One of them is better than... They're both better than both. Yeah, probably. And... But not by a ton. Not by a ton, but they're both better. Yeah, they are both better. And they scored zero points in the second half. You don't think that Joe Flacko's a better quarterback than Matt Ryan? No. I do. I don't. Oh, I do. I think pure quarterbacking, I think Matt Ryan's better. I think he plays better, he wins more games, he actually can... No, I think he's a better player. A better quarterback. Justin: And Ray Rice is certainly a better running back than Michael Turner. But if you're telling me like, the reason why this sets up well is because they're 25th against the pass, it's not like that's Baltimore's like bread and butter pass. No. Jake: Because Flacco didn't even throw for 4,000 yards this year. And that's nothing nowadays. They only need to do it when they need to do it. But they run, run, pass. Run, run, pass. Justin: Run, run, pass. Run, run, pass. But if you run for one and run for one. Then you pass for 10. Yeah, that doesn't work. They run for four. Then they run for four. And then it's like, oh, okay. Now it's third and two. That's where this sauce is. Jake: I think they're gonna be able to do it. I think they're gonna be able to do it. But anyways, I'm predicting Baltimore to win. 2420. See? The covers three and a half so I'll just pick Baltimore and I'll get the points. I guess, guess you're picking 49ers? Yeah. All right and you're gonna give up the three and a half? In Vegas it started at four and a half the first day. I was there at the championship and it started at four and a half. So anybody got their bets in it, you actually got an extra point there which is good. In the betting line, before the championship started, I actually have 7-1 odds. Raven wins the Super Bowl, so I'm kind of happy with that. Alright, that's it for this week. We will be back in a week or two with some Jets news, some Super Bowl wrap-up, and some all other stuff. Remember to go to to JetKingdom.com, follow us on Twitter at justjetkingdom for Justin and JetKingdom for myself. Remember to go to Facebook and Google Plus and all those other places. and...
1:00:01 Jake: Well, the next episode will be on the next week. The week after will always be here. Don't worry kids, don't worry. Can't wait to get to episode 200. That's going to be crazy sauce. But until then, and as we always say, go Jens.
