00:13 Justin: Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Can't wait! Jake: Welcome to J The longest running and saddest New York Jets podcast ever! My name is Jake, and joining me on the other side of the small class table is Justin. Justin, how are you doing today? It's a podcast studio. It's just Studio F. We have a lot of studios. This time we're in, actually we're recording from Justin's apartment. Yep. For more information visit www.FEMA.gov high on the 27th floor. Of the... No, I'm not gonna give you your address. Nice view, we have a nice view. We do have a nice view. Justin: Skyline, Manhattan view. A crane collapse just two blocks away. A crane just collapse. So there you go. Jake: Now you can figure out where we are. Justin: If you really care, you can figure it out. Jake: Figure it out today versus when a crane collapsed. Alright, well we have, we are... Justin: We have to apologize. Not really. Are we apologizing? Well someone mentioned on Facebook, they were like, are you guys gonna podcast again or what? No, are the Jets gonna frickin' have a winning season again? We'll be back when the Jets win another game. So fuck that. It was my fault. I was on vacation for one. And then I got sick so I couldn't really talk. So we waited until, you know, I actually made a little joke on Facebook. I said, we're going to wait till Woody and Rex talk. That's right. And they talked today. They talked yesterday. Yes, now we'll talk. That's right. We need, we want to wait. I, my- We're waiting for a new GM before we make any decisions. Jake: My Sanchez, pictures of my wife in a Sanchez jersey tattoo was getting done. And so I needed to make sure I was here. Justin: First of all, let's just start with that. Because I don't want to talk about it. I'm going to talk about it. It's not worth talking about. It's stupid. Well, some new information has come out. Oh, really? Since you and I talked about it. OK. He's had it for three years. OK. So he got it. Three years. He got it. Jake: After the first year. OK. All right. Second of all, he loves his wife very much. That's good. He should love his wife very much. He has a tattoo of his wife in a Marc Sanchez jersey. OK. Bye. And he sat for three years. So I guess after they won the AFC champ, or they lost the AFC champ. Justin: There's more information. There's more information. More than that? Well, it was originally designed as a generic Jets jersey with the number eight on it. Okay, right. And he was like, all right, he didn't care about the number. But then he was like, you know what? We just made the AFC championship. It'll be easy enough. Just make the eight of six and that's what he did worst fucking mistake ever he's like in retrospect probably should have just Stayed with zero whatever like well, those are players too. It's just zero isn't a player. Yeah, it is
03:05 Justin: Who it could be it's not a player now, but number six is not is a player now That's gonna be another player some other day Jake: But even then, you're a coach at a team that we know that coaches don't last at teams. Justin: OK, so what? He's got a tattoo at that time. He really should have gotten a nameth. Or if he wanted maybe a Marc Gasneau as a defensive guy, or a Clecco, or something. Jake: Just a generic number. Six is a number. Or the year that they got married, or something that I would go back to and say, like, I got married in 03. So I'd be like, I got a 03. And then it'd be, is that Nick Phalp? Justin: I stick to, it's just a number. But it's not, it's Mark Sanchez of Jersey. I know, but it'll be someone else's in a few years. Jake: And it doesn't worry you at all that, that's a little bit of a dumb thing to do. No. Justin: Is it a dumb thing to do? I don't care. No, but is it a dumb thing to do? Answer the question. No, I don't. It's neither yes nor no. No. It's a thing he did. Is it dumb? It's not dumb, it's not smart. It's neutral. It's dumb. It's whatever. It's dumb. It doesn't matter. It shows lack of judgment. It shows nothing. It shows he got a tattoo of his wife with a Jake: with a gesture to a six. Okay, it's like it's like LT getting jets on his thing great two years later. He's gone like now you know what on your freaking Hey, I like that idiot. I like it. It shows a little low respect all right speaking of respect the Jets have none All right since we've been gone. We lost games. We've been we fired everybody Justin: We didn't fire everybody the only person we didn't buy is petting petton's contract ran out and we and we let him go So, but basically we are now with, and West off retired. So everybody's gone. It's like Rex and the nobodies. No, not everybody, just like the coordinators are gone. Offensive and defense coordinator. So the offensive coordinator's gone. The special teams coach, who's left? Well, there are guys left. But it's not. The quarterback coach is gone, we fired him. Thank God. Should have been fired last year. He should have been gone two years ago. Oh yeah. He should have just left when they fired. Schottenhammer, whatever. They did hold on to the guy who I think's gonna be the defensive coordinator, Dennis Thurman. Who was the secondary coach for the Rex regime. So during the Rex regime on defense, it's been. It's always been a three-headed thing. Rex has always said this is a Rex Ryan, Mike Pedden, Dennis Thurman defense. And Dennis Thurman's always been the secondary coach while Pedden's been the defensive coordinator. They've worked together through, back through into Baltimore. Jake: He's got the best job in the world. If you're a secondary coach and you have Camardia and Rivas, you've got a good job. Justin: Well, he didn't have Rivas this year, and they still had the second best pass defense. So he did a good job coaching the guys up. Jake: It's one of those weird stats, though, like when you can run the shit out of a team, you don't need to pass. That defense goes really up. Justin: Their defense was still, you know, fairly. Here's what hurts defensive statistics
06:02 Justin: when your offense is like the worst in the league. And throws picks like they're going out of business. Yeah, so that hurts defenses. So I still don't think defense was that bad. I think Dennis Thurman will be the next defensive coordinator when they hire a GM who can then actually make a decision. But it's kind of clear Woody has basically said this is Rex's team. Like Rex is running the show. Jake: And I know this is like always, you know, happy, happy, happy, happy Jake guy. But I feel like here's what I wanted to happen. I've had weeks to think about this and the sadness and the crying in the corner and the burning the jerseys and then realizing, oh wait, he's gonna be back. I had to unburn those jerseys. I kind of feel like... Because of the contract situation, if I'm woody and woken the situation, I think I said this maybe two podcasts ago, whatever, it's been so long, I've been drunk simultaneity. So, I feel like you have to say you got basically two guys with two years, with big contracts left that if you let them go right now, you're gonna eat a lot of money. Right? Wood. On the quarterback side? and on the head coach side. So he's got two more years for Rex, he's probably got, he's gonna eat a ton if he fires him, and he's got two more on, he's got this big contract thing with Sanchez, which I'm sure next year is better, like after next year I'm sure it's better, because whatever, he already played for the year. So here's what I would do. I would say it's a make or break year for both of you motherfuckers. I'm gonna give you the weapons you need, right? I'm gonna give you weapons, because basically, I'm gonna give you weapons that when you're gone, I'll still use those weapons, because I'm building the team, right? Because you're always building, always building and creating weapons. I'm gonna give you weapons, running backs, wide receivers, whatever, defensive players, whatever the fucking weapons you need. I'm gonna give you a great bunch of weapons. If you don't work out, then the next guy comes in here, he's gonna have a team full of weapons, and then he'll be able to make hay with that. So that's what I'm kind of glad that that's happening because I like Rex. I feel like he's over-over-over whatever and under-performed I and over-over-delivered. No, what is it? What's the expression? Over-promised? Over-promised under-performed. Yeah. In a downward slope. And again, I said this, maybe I was talking to someone, I'm like first year AFC Championship. winning by 10 in-the-half, right? I was the Justin: second year was better than... It was a much better... They were a better team. They were a better team now. And they actually went and beat better teams on the road. That was a better team. The second year team was actually that much better than the third year. Third year, Jake: eight and eight, collapse. Fourth year, six and whatever. Ten. Six, collapse, collapse. Like we had a good record and then just collapsed and collapsed. So like... Now his record is basically this downward slope. Justin: I think it is. From year two downward. Jake: I think it's from year one. Justin: No, year two was.
09:00 Justin: Just from the final point. Year two was. Why are you doing that? Year two was better than by to me, by all accounts. They were better, team. I'm just saying the final outcome of the thing. I'm only looking at the final outcome. Well, they lost by less points. If that's what you're looking at. To the Steelers? Yeah, they lost by like four. Jake: Oh Jesus, yeah, that was like makeup time. We were being destroyed that game. Well, they did not give up. I can tell you after that first half of that game, I was like, we're doing... Justin: But they were... They lost like 24-0 in the first half and they lost 24-19. As opposed to we were beating the Colts. And then got our ass kicked. Well, then got our ass kicked. So to me, I'd rather say, okay, second year, as opposed to squeaking into the playoffs, we... Didn't even need to win our last game. We're in the playoffs go on the road beat Peyton Manning go on the road beat Tom Brady Yeah, and then lose by five in the AFC Championship in Pittsburgh nothing to sneeze at you make that's a better That's a better season you make a solid point Downward side since the third second. Sure. Yeah, the last two years were not as good They weren't as talented but and they certainly weren't as good Jake: But what I always say and I say this a lot about teams is I feel like teams you don't fire cower when you have a four and 12 team right Justin: you don't the jets didn't fire eric man genie when they had a four and 12 season and I stuck with him that was good well then they had a winning season the next year it's just far fucked so I feel like Jake: The coach is something that it's easy to fire because of a bad season, but I don't want to be the team that's constantly in a new coach search because I don't think those teams do well. Justin: I mean, are the Steelers in a tizzy because they went 8-8 this year? No, of course not. No. Are the Giants in a tizzy because they went 9-7 this year? A little bit more than the Steelers. I don't think so. The Steelers have more Supergolings, so I think they'd be like that. Well, not recently. They have six. Yeah, but not recently. What doesn't not recently as a fool not since 1986 The De Giants have more than the Steelers. Since 1985, the Giants have more Super Bowl rings than the Steelers. Jake: Let's go back into the time machine. Are you kidding me? Is this a Jet Band? You don't at least at some point say at least we have one. Our franchise, if it never wins another Super Bowl, at least I know that our franchise got to and won a Super Bowl. Justin: The Giants have been more successful to me than the Steelers in the last 20 years. Uh, probably not in the last 20 years. Yeah, I would say so. I mean they've got four rings and five Super Bowl. appearances since 1986. I mean that's- I think it's against two rings and three appearances. Yeah, so. Jake: I guess. I feel like overall record, I bet you Steelers- Justin: Oh, probably better. Yeah. Probably make the playoffs more often. Jake: I also feel like, I'll make an argument that the AFC over some periods of those time has been a tougher division. Not this year, this year they were in a much, the Giants were in a much tougher division.
12:00 Jake: That's the reason. But I feel like over a period of time, it goes from year to year, I bet you that the people that Ben Ross, or not, the Steelers are going up again, were better teams overall than who the Giants were going up against. Bactually incorrect. Dallas, the Dallas Cowboys. Justin: The Cowboys before that, the 49ers after that, the Green Bay Packers. I mean there's a lot of really good teams. Jake: You have a lot of teams in there that are, you have the Patriots and the Colts, so like two really good teams that dominated and stayed in the playoffs every year and work hard to beat every year. Justin: Yeah, whatever. But in talking to giant fan friends. Friend or friends? Mm. I'll put this on one person friend. The one that we know, the one that I don't know. The one that we both know and have talked about on this podcast just never mentioned his name. Oh, he's a shit dicker. She wants the defensive coordinator fired. Perifuel? Yeah. He should be. I don't understand that, because he was a clown when they hired him. He was the old defensive coordinator from the Bills. But they won a Super Bowl last year. So all of a sudden, the defense. comments. won them the Super Bowl last year. All of a sudden he's a terrible coach a year later. The defense won the Super Bowl last year? Yes, absolutely. The Giants defense won them all those games in playoffs. I feel like the first one they did, I don't think this last one. Absolutely, they played Aaron Rodgers, shut him the fuck down. They played San Francisco, did not let them go anywhere. Yeah, they shut them out. They played San Francisco, they couldn't do a thing. And then they shut down Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. That's the defense winning the game. Jake: Gronk wasn't healthy. Justin: OK, fine. All right. Jake: All right. Justin: I don't know. I don't feel like a coach coming off of a Super Bowl, a coach coming off of a Super Bowl victory, and then has a winning season at 9 and 7. Nobody from that staff should be fired. That's absurd. Jake: They demand excellence. Justin: I don't know what that feels like. But to me it's absurd. Jake: Exactly you don't know what that feels like. Justin: So anyway, we're looking for a lot of people. We're looking for a general manager. Jake: Let's talk about those last two games and then we'll talk about what we're looking for. Justin: Oh, last two games. Alright. So San Diego. Was week 16. I was in Key West. Jake: No, San Diego was week 17. Justin: That was... 16. Last home game. Second to last game of the year. Yes. Let me do this. Alright. Because you're confused. Let me do this. I was in Key West. I watched the first half in a bar in Key West. Ah, yes. I was there. It was a... No, wait. I didn't go. You didn't go. I didn't go. It was a Patriots bar. And I was like, you put the jet game on, and they're like, the Patriots are on. I'm like, you have 100 screens in here. Can you put the jets on one of them? They're like, you can go in the back. It's like, fuck you. I was like, even in QS, they're fine. Even down there, they're still assholes. Assholes travel. So I watched the first half. The jets were actually winning. And then I left. So this was just for you. This was a. I did not see all these sacks.
15:01 Justin: I saw only a few. This is sac-a-roy. This is you get what this is this is fans you get what you ask for right you want a nod you want a Seventh-round pick who's not an NFL starting quarterback to play quarterback He's going to get sacked a shit ton of times because he's not gonna know what to do with the ball No, he set a record It's 11 times. T-Bo would look exactly the same. T-Bo would be able to run around better. Jake: Yeah, but he'd still get sacked. Justin: Oh, he gets sacked, but not 11. Not 11. Because he might get positively hard to afford them. Because he would run away from it to you. Yeah. But it's that indecisiveness and the speed of the game that basically is like, that's why he's not a starting quarterback. Jake: This is why you can look back now with 2020 vision and say this season was and ended the minute we picked up Tebow. It really was. And I know some of us said that, and we said, we're very worried about this. This does not look like a good thing. We tried to stay positive, but like the whole debacle with even the whole like starting and we're not starting. And then when he is even the backup and you literally either have a hurt guy or whatever, you don't start him, just shows how a collapse. apps. total fuck up and I would love to believe that the one guy did it. Oh, I actually liked Mike Sandenbaum not just because I met him at the Hall of Fame or anything, but like I actually I liked him I thought he did some good stuff over the two. I feel like they're making him the scapegoat for a thing that the three of them agreed to. I feel like all three of those guys said let's go get Tebow. Now they're making him the scapegoat for it. They all fucked that season. They fucked it They fucked it hard from just from that one decision and like now they're like, whoa We didn't have it you guys did it to yourselves like Yes, an injury or whatever, but that was like that was the thing that sort of defines the season We did a lot of injuries Justin: Defines our season. Yeah, it was T-bone, T-bone and butt fumble. That's exactly what you want to define your season But fumble they play that it's like time. It's like hey, what was the 2012 jet season like? Oh, you mean the butt fumble season that's gonna be us 10 years from now. You mean the butt fumble season? Yeah, we talked about the farm season like, you know, this is the butt fumble season Jake: Yeah, and the t-bow see people fuck butt fumble. That's the season. Yes. Yeah, that's what it is So he I have a question for you. Yeah What could this kid do? I don't know what I'm talking about, Marky Mark. Marky Mark, Sanchez. Sanchez? I feel like this is a black mark on his thing that he will never outlive. Like I- Butt fumble? I feel like butt fumble, unless you win like six Super Bowls, you're still butt fumble. Maybe you win one Super Bowl. Justin: You gotta win, you probably have to win a Super Bowl or just do what- He was on trajectory to do after his so when a super and then maybe you can then say well Jake: But fumbles funny, but I got a ring now or like, you know Justin: Beat you know beat beat the beat the Pats in the AFC Championship game to get to the Super Bowl that kind of thing Like okay, you know get passed over that hump
18:00 Justin: Which if he ever thought they were getting over the like you thought they were like over the hump, right? They beat they beat the Patriots in the playoffs in New England to get to the AFC Championship game not two years ago. Yeah, yeah. It's just so weird. And then since then, I think we've been destroyed by them. The talent level has gone completely downhill. Well, that's a tan ball. You can put on tan and bow. The injury stuff has been absurd. This year. Every team has it. Every team has it. Not every team doesn't lose their best players on both sides of the ball. Jake: Yeah, well no because like literally their best because usually their best player is their quarterback And they usually most people don't use their quarterbacks that quickly although you could be our G3 Justin: Most teams could be the Redskins their best skill position player on one side and their best Overall player on the entire team. Yeah, Greg Jennings and Clay Matthews Yeah, but you can argue that okay, so you lose Greg Jennings, but we still have Jordy Nelson James Jones Oh, and also we have Randall Cobb. So, okay, we lose Greg Jennings for half a season. And they lost. Not a big deal. Jake: They lost Dory Nelson for like six games. Justin: Right, but the depth on the team made it so that it didn't really matter. Oh, and we have Jermichael Finley and whatever. Jake: But Santoni Holmes versus Rivas. Say homes hurt more than Rivas did yeah, probably that's what's so saying because we hell or two remember Justin: Oh, yeah, so like you're losing like the two best receiving weapons that you have on the entire team and Then there was nobody else right? I mean Curly's a nice player, but he's not a number one receiver nor is he even a number two He's just a good slot receive right so if you have curly on the field with San Antonio Holmes with Hill maybe eventually and Keller and Keller on the field then he's a nice player. But if he's your number one guy split out wide and he's like 5'11 it just it's not gonna work. Tippy-tippy toes. So so the talent level from a depth perspective wasn't there. No. At all. It was there on the defensive side of the ball. Yeah. It wasn't there on offense. Jake: at all. Now, how much is that? But how much is that as Tannenbaum and his theory or how much that is Rex every year just going and getting more depth at defense? Justin: Well, it can't just be Rex running the show and saying, you know, we're gonna use first round picks on defense only. It's that's that's not a one-person decision. Well, no, but that's his philosophy. But it's not a one way. Tenamom isn't a defensive minded general manager. But I mean, it wasn't. Woody isn't a defensive minded. I mean, they made a lot of mistakes over the years. I mean, they they'd still they'd be in better shape now if when two years ago they decided we're going to get rid of Kottree and Breylyn Edwards, we're going to go at Burris and Mason. If they would have just kept Edwards, who's back. and country and just had me if you think about that mark sanchez from his rookie year through his now four full seasons in the
21:07 Justin: league Has not had the same receiver To throw the ball to ever in his entire career from year to year not from year to year not receiver. No How is he supposed to be good, right? Jake: It's true, but I feel like there's other there's other quarterbacks out there that like like Tom Brady West Walker Justin: He happened there were years when West Walker was hurt and he's no made hay West Walker never missed a season Oh, he missed the playoffs that one year West Walker has been his guy for like the last six years And before that it was like to my brownie at Randy Moss for four years He's he's now had these tight ends for three years. I mean Any good quarterback going to have Matt Ryan. Okay, he's at Roddy White his whole career. It's a good point. Eli Manning's had before Nixon Cruz, he had a Monte tumor. So is that trader? Could be trader Mike. It's like, come on, dude, you're trying to get and it's also a coat. It's definitely a coaching issue where the coaching staff doesn't understand what is necessary to actually nurture and build up a quarterback and coach up a quarterback. Because someone has to say someone in the room has to raise their hand and say, Hey, assholes, you spent a top five pick on a quarterback. Don't you think we should do the right things to support the quarterback? Now we've done the things on the offensive line, right? We spent the money, we got the left tackle, we got the center. Those are marquee offensive line positions. But we've switched running backs every year. We have had no continuity there. We've gotten worse as a running team, which is crazy. easy. We've we haven't had the same receivers for this guy for any of his four years. How the fuck? I mean, Dustin Keller is the only guy, but he missed this season. He basically missed this whole thing. He was. Jake: Yeah, useless. I mean, his stats are probably ridiculous, which I know he played in eight games, but no, no, I played as much as he played in the first game. Justin: So that counts as a game. Yes. Got injured on the first drive. You know, he played in some games that he barely played in. Jake: The problem is, if that's the secret to success, then there's no success for Marc Sanchez. Because he's not coming back to anybody he's recognized as. Justin: If he walked back in the huddle next year, that's going to be like. Well, maybe it'll be Holmes. And maybe they'll have Edwards on the team. He didn't look terrible. I mean, I saw him. He didn't look awful. No. He looked serviceable. He looked serviceable. And hopefully, Hill can turn into something. I want that bad. Yeah, he want that bad. that. But they actually fired, they fired the strike the conditioning coach. Right. Because of all these injuries and they're soft. You say that a lot of soft tissue injuries, non-contact injuries, injuries that should not.
24:01 Justin: They're like fluke injuries that if you were conditioned better, shouldn't happen. Well wasn't this the guy who replaced the guy who tripped? Yes. Jake: So right. Justin: The guy who tripped the guy, I think he's in UCLA. He's got a good job. Jake: He was good. He's good. Trip gate. I like the tripper. Oh, man. But for all right. So then there was that game we lost. Justin: We lost that game and then we lost the Bills game. And then we just got trounced by whatever. We can get trounced, but it was I mean, it's painful. Whatever. It was fine losing that game. We ended up better draft pick at that point. It's like fine at that point. And although I don't understand how we did not. We were considered the third place team in the AFC East, not the last place team, even though we had the same record as the Bills, and the Bills had a better conference record. Well, there's something in it. There's gotta be something else in there. There ain't the schedule or something. Maybe like we beat the shit out of them and they didn't beat the shit out of us, like the combined score type thing? Maybe, maybe. Cumulative? aggregate in aggregate for those soccer fans maybe when they got beat they got Jake: but they also got beat to share by a couple teams but sort of we yeah but that doesn't matter like someone laid up I mean didn't didn't San Francisco they have let's go shut us out right but then they destroyed the bill you also you want the bills yeah seven or something it was crazy so I mean maybe it's like points against who knows anyway but anyway we ended up ahead of them which Justin: means we're third place that's fine which are means are, well, it's like the extra games, right? So our extra games are against Oakland and Tennessee. Their extra games are against Kansas City and Jacksonville. And I'd rather have their extra games. Yeah, I feel like they're toss ups. And they're one pick ahead of us in the draft. Jake: Yeah, that's a toss-up and the games are a toss-up because we don't know what's gonna happen to Jacksonville Justin: Kansas City and Jacksonville are pretty much gonna suck Jake: Well, they're both gonna be with new head coaches so they could have that new head coach thing going Justin: They're neither of them are gonna have quarterbacks unless Jacksonville is Chibo Oh, that'd be great do that and put it on prime time. We won't be able to but we're not playing Jacksonville Jake: Oh, fuck it. Don't do it because we won't be on time then. All right, so we have lots of coaching changes as we discussed, we'll just get into it. And GM change. Oh, by the way, we will do a end of the season grades. Yeah, we'll do all that stuff, stats, everything. We'll do that, we'll go back after the Super Bowl, we'll come back because we'll have plenty of time, because we're still in sort of, there's still playoffs going on. Playoffs. Playoffs. Playoffs. So let's talk about the coaching situation. We are looking for. to says New York sports team looking for one general manager, one offensive coordinator, one defensive coordinator, one special teams coach. Justin: No, we have him. Who? They haven't announced it yet. Yeah, but Westoff's assistant's going to take over. They haven't announced it. I'm just saying. I think they did. Jake: I don't think so. Justin: I don't think they might have done that one.
27:14 Justin: I That's R We had guys in the fourth round who we had just cut No but also that's like you know, Trader Mike Where he gets three players in a draft Right That hurts special teams Jake: Last year we got seven, we cut some of the ones at the end Like Justin: Yeah well he picked an offensive lineman, he picked a running back He picked like a receiver who did end up being on the team So he didn't cut everyone No he cut that running back Everybody was so hot on, it was like he's gonna be so good. He ended up on another team and not playing, so whatever. But that is the end of the draft, is to fill up special teams, and clearly that has a little bit of a error. So let's get it, can your dream come true? Ah, I hope so. Norv Turner for an offensive coordinator. I have two guys I want. Just go for it, just break it. We don't have to break it out. You know, Scott Pioli was fired as a general manager at Kansas City. Yes, and he does not want the job at- Ah, I just really said no. Because I would really like him. He's not even on the short list. Jake: That's too bad. There's Tom Gable and- There's a few guys. Justin: You know, there's only two on the short list for- Gable and the guy from the Falcons, but I think he already took the Jacksonville job. So offensive coordinator. Two guys I want. One guy I've said on these podcasts like 100 times. 100 times. I want Norv Turner. Norv Turner. I want Norv Turner to run the offense. And do nothing else. Jake: Nothing else. Not make third and short decisions. Well, yeah. He'll be calling the plays. Not decide on the team. Not doing anything else. Doesn't get to call time out. Nope. No game clock decisions. Justin: No special teams. No defense. Just. But full control over the offense. Personnel decisions on offense. Norv Turner. I trust him in that regard. I really, really do. Jake: Here's your nightmare. Norv Turner. Offensive coordinator. Two years. They fire Rex and Norv Turner takes over. Nah, they wouldn't do it. Justin: They do that all the time. Yeah, but they wouldn't do it for Norv because he's not a good head coach. But within two years they'll be like, oh, you earned it back. They go to a team. Because if the Jets offense could even do a thing, their defense will be way better. Jake: Yeah, the defense not be on the field for 38 minutes a game. Justin: So if he does a good job, the Jets will do a good job. So that's your number one pick. Number one pick, Norv turn. I've said it a million times in this podcast. It's crazy that you've said it so long Jake: and that it could actually come true. Justin: I really want it to happen. He's supposedly on the short list. Jake: Yeah, no. It's him and one other guy. And they're both like the number... The two best guys in the league that are out there the two pop picks so that are on our show
30:01 Justin: There is another guy I want who's not been mentioned at all anywhere. Okay, Charlie Weiss Okay, I think he's coaching in college somewhere either Kansas or Florida or something But fuck man, he knows what he's doing. He's been with the Jets before. Yeah parcells regime He was the Jets wide receivers coach, I think. Then he went on to be the offensive coordinator with the Pats when Brady was nobody. Right. Turn Brady into Brady. Basically, that was his system. Josh McDaniel still running like that is still the Charlie White system. He made Matt Castle work in Kansas City. Matt Castle's best season in Kansas City was when Charlie Weiss was the offensive coordinator. The guy knows offense. And his quarterbacks. He knows quarterbacks. I really think he could be good, but I don't think he's been talked about, mentioned, or anything, but I think I would try and hire him. Alright. That's Justin. That's me. So, who do you want? Do you care? I don't care. Do you know? Jake: Do you want an orb? I want Nora for the reasons that I think it'd be fun. I like the idea of it. I like the, you know, I don't, again, they have collapses, that team's collapses, like the Jets have collapsed the last two years, but I think that's a head coaching thing. There is the simplification, there's the Peter principle. He is the king of the Peter principle, which is he gets. thanks for watching. you know put up above his ability. He's been a great offensive coordinator in multiple spots. Because what I think, again my theory on the Jets is go under the radar, shut the fuck up, re-goad your weapons, come in under an easier schedule, and get help for the guys who need help. You get them help. So you get them people who are quarterback coaches, you get them people who know, who have simplified systems, you get them things that are weapons. You made a great comment the other day when we were talking about rookie quarterbacks and you know who does well and who doesn't and you know why they're doing well and one of the things we kept saying was, or you kept saying and we went through the teams and it's been ringing my ears was As I watch the guys in these playoffs, these three rookie quarterbacks in the playoffs, and now there's only two, or one. Now there's one. Now there's one. But it's like, look at the weapons they have with them. Look what they're given. They're given the number two rusher in the league. They're given the number, you know, they're given the number one wide receiver. They're given the, it's just like, that's it. They're giving the incredible weapons to make them look better. So if we want, Sanchez is who he is, is who he's going to be. He's never going to be anything else. ... But we know he can be successful, we just have to give him the weapons to be successful with. And we have to give him someone who understands that theory, and doesn't just throw a bunch of has-bins out on the field and say, fuck it. Justin: Well, the dirty little secret about Norv Turner is that he's a run-first guy. Fine. People think of them as like, you know, San Diego, the wild throwing team. But there, Norv Turner as an offensive coordinator, because he was their offensive coordinator, right? Yeah, and then they promoted him to head coach.
33:00 Justin: He was Dallas's during Dallas's dynasty years. Emmitt Smith. Emmitt Smith, yeah. He was the offensive coordinator in San Francisco, made Alex Smith look good for a season. And he was the OC with San Diego and they ran the shit out of the ball at Lydenian Tomlinson. That is like the dirty little secret on Norv is he's a run guy and that is And then that opens the play action big play stuff. Right. With the tight end and the big play stuff over the middle and down the field. That suits us perfectly. Just need the running back. We could draft him. Second round, third round, whatever. Could draft a running back. Yeah, you don't need a couple, but okay. Anyway, so that's what I wanted to offensive. I think the defensive coordinator is gonna be Dennis Thurman. Okay, that's a good prediction. I think that's just gonna be what it is. I think Rex has even said- You've skipped over GM. Well, I said it. I want Pioli, but you said that's not gonna happen. So I actually find, I don't care. I don't know these guys from a hole in the head. That's it. Jake: It's kind of hard to know what they do, because you never know where the decision's coming from. Justin: Yeah, you know what I don't want? I don't want the guy that's the Jets internal guy. Jake: Yeah, that's one of the guys that's talking. Justin: I don't want that guy. Oh, I want a new voice. I want a new set of eyes, a new lens. Yep. All right. Yeah, well, because that's what we did before. Jake: I mean, Tana Mom was a- Tana Mom was under Bradway. Right, under Bradway. Justin: And he kept Bradway. He's still hanging around, collecting a paycheck. There were some. You know the Jets haven't had a losing season since 07. No, that's interesting. It's actually been pretty good. Really? Like, 08 was the year Mangenie got fired, but they didn't have a losing record. They got fired because they collapsed. Because Brett Favre fucking tore his shoulder and didn't want to tell anybody because he wanted to keep his stupid streak alive and fucking text pictures of the dick to people. Let it all out, baby. Let it all out. But they actually had a winning season there and then Rex hadn't had a losing season until this year. So it's actually a pretty decent season. success and Anabam was a big part of that. He He had a decent string of, he had two AFC Championship teams. He had a bunch of teams that went to, you know, Mangini had a playoff team that lost in the first round. I don't know if he was around for like that last one of those Herm Edwards seasons. I don't think he was, but. He's had a decent run. His draft picks have been, you know, he's hit on a couple. Colston. Well, that was a miss. I know. But he's hit on a couple, right? It looks like Wilkerson's a hit. Reavis was a smashing success. That's a home run. I mean, you know, you go back to that season and that draft and it's like, why wouldn't Reavis be the number one or two or three overall pick, right? I don't know who the quarterbacks were or whatever. Right. it.
36:01 Jake: I'm not gonna be able to do it. I'm not gonna be able to do it. It was, we're gonna leave with a couple guys. Well that's the problem. And when you leave with a couple guys, if all three of them are superstuds, that's awesome, but then you don't have depth and you can't go. When people get hurt, you can't go. And again, you're talking about the Green Bay Packers. So I don't, I don't, I feel like his low round picks, I feel like when Bradway was, when his low round picks. turn out to be something. I'm trying to think like the Leon Washington's and the or Coleman. Yeah. Or Rhodes. I don't know who drafted those guys. I think that was Bradway. Anyway, but those guys, fourth round guys, like we used to make hey round. Justin: We still have had decent. Strong Green was a third rounder. McKnight was a fourth rounder. Balal Powell was a fourth rounder. And they, but they, but they show up in the field like fourth rounders. Oh, McKnight's a really good special teams player. That's what you want in the fourth round. Like a really good special teams player. Jake: You know, at times this year, he was our only guy to do running because everybody else was hurt and concussed. Justin: Well, I think Balal Powell could be halfway decent. Yeah, alright, so, and we lost Penn. We lost Penn. He's now with Buffalo which hurts, it hurts so bad. You know, we'll see. We'll see if it's him or Rex. Yeah, I'm kind of happy for him. I was texting back and forth with my Bills fans, friends today and you know, I said to him, hey, you know, he's been with Rex for 10 years so some of that's probably rubbed off. I said, I will say to you, last year we decided that he would call the plays. Yeah. And it didn't work out so well. But he was the defensive coordinator for one of the top defenses in the league for the last four years. If you take the four years as a total. Yeah. He was the defensive coordinator. And the Bills do have some talent so he should be able to do something and you're already running three four I think- or you were at least a year before So you should be set up there you the the gauges You should be able to get something out of Mario Williams and the rest of that Yeah, defensive line Jake: Perry Fuel, the guy who won the Super Bowl with the Giants was their defensive coordinator too Well, he was- He was a defensive coordinator Justin: Right, then he took over as a head coach Jake: That was like three years ago. I'm just saying like sometimes you can have the the coach and it doesn't work out anyway, very true Justin: Um, I wish him good luck. We'll see how Rex does without him. We'll see how he does without Rex Yeah, it'll be and speaking of You know, we did gloss over this as the defensive coordinator. There is an defensive coordinator floating around that did get fired that, you know, maybe his name might get floated because he shares a lot and he has a lot of comment with Rex Ryan. Oh no. Because, because his name is Rob Ryan. Can you imagine Rob Ryan? The Ryan twins. Can you imagine?
39:00 Justin: That's funny. Could you imagine out there? He's fired. They fired him. They fired him Like two days ago. That's crazy. So you imagine Oh, just think about it for a man those two fuckers on the sidelines Like you imagine them like yelling at each other like twins like yelling at each other, baby like I'm vibing Like belly bumping? Jake: Not belly bumping. Let's go eat some fucking snacks! Justin: I kinda just want it to happen just cause... Just the psych-o, no sound at all. It just belongs. Oh god, that's too funny. So he's out there. I'm sure he'll get a job somewhere, but not with the jazz. Jake: He's not gonna get a job. Justin: No, I don't think Rex will hire him. Jake: They talked about getting him a head coaching, but... Justin: No, no, no, he won't.- You... you know what? He's not as good as Rex. No. As a defensive coordinator. later. at all because his defenses aren't ever all that good. Now the Raiders weren't that good. They just had like really good players. They had Nomedy Awesome One as prime. And it was like, OK, it's easy to like look good. You know, we actually you know what? Jake: We'll get back to that nominee thing. We dodged a bullet. Oh, yeah. Justin: So crows better than him now. Jake: Nomedy sauce or what do we call it? Not Nomedy. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Nomedy. Awesome. Sauce. Awesome sauce. Justin: Whatever. He dodged a bullet on that. Yeah, we paid Crow less, and he's a better player at this point in his career. And Crow got better this year for having to go through this year. So next year, they'll be in better shape. Because Crow is like legit number one right now. Well, that's the thing. Jake: And it's always been interesting having him in Rebus. You always think, oh, Crow, why the fuck did you give that up? It's only because you're comparing him to the best in the league. So it's like. Like, comment, subscribe, and I'll see you next time. Okay, well, he's really good, but when they're never gonna throw the other way and no one can even complete a pass, they're gonna throw at him, and he's gonna be put in that position a lot more. And now he was the number one, he covered some really number one guys well. He did, he totally did. Roddy White, he had one catch for 16 yards or something. Justin: We never played. Jake: Not Roddy White. Um, I think the other one. Justin: He covered a bunch of guys and covered them. Well, yeah, he did a good job Jake: Alright, so let's talk about the QB situation. It's on our agenda my situation going into next season Justin: I think it's pretty simple T-Bose somewhere else Sanchez is the starter going into the season Well, we got a we gave up a fourth and a sixth for him I feel like we get something similar back for him Really? Yeah, something similar He's still what he is. He's no different. I Don't think we hurt his stock like people are like, oh the Jets did him an injustice. No, we didn't know He is not her exactly what he was right? Oh, if you ribs you if you want what he was Jake: You will get he's still that in fact use another year in a system He got to actually see a real semi real but fumble quarterback. Yes. It's all about fumble quarterback Justin: He knows what not to butt fumble right so I still think Jacksonville is gonna go get him and I think they'll give the fourth and the sixth or Take a fourth they'll give something up for him take a fifth in a pack
42:01 Justin: I mean he doesn't make that much money. So it's not like he you know, it's not even like If we did cut him, it's not even that big a deal. No, it's not Jake: Right, it's not cut this guy and let him go I think Justin: Sanchez and McElroy both come back With a guy to compete with Sanchez in the preseason, but not oh in the preseason. Yeah, but not Vic No, I don't think they can do that. I don't think that money. Yeah Well, I mean it's it's not a lot of money because it's whatever we'd sign him to but I feel like He's made so much money that if he feels like he maybe wants to sign a one-year Jake: I'll show you contract right and one million two million dollar. Yeah, he could do that cuz I made the money Justin: Although I don't know cuz apparently he was bankrupt and all this other shit So he might need money. Jake: But he signed that $100 million, $100 million two years ago. Justin: A lot of it was guaranteed, like $40 or $50 million, but he was apparently like $30 or $40 million in the hole. So maybe he does need the money, and he can't do the, I'm going to prove it. And if you sign me to the, I'm going to prove it one year thing, I'm not competing with no nothing. I'm the fucking starter. Right, but he... Jake: I feel like you've you're Michael Vick and I don't want Michael Vick for many reasons. I don't want him either. But if I feel like you're Michael Vick and you're signing with a team with Butt Fumble, you're kind of like, there's no way in hell that I won't win this job. He would probably win the job just because of who he was. Justin: But you can pretty much say he'll start like eight or nine games. Right. Right. That's that's where you get. So I don't think we're going to go out and get some. Yeah, it's not going to. I feel like what they did this year before the Tebow thing was exactly what they need to do again. No, it was Drew Stanton. Stan. And you know what? He would have been a perfectly adequate backup slash competition for Mark Sanchez. Jake: Kyle Wharton level, then Stan level. Justin: Chad Henney would have been a good one. Kyle Wharton is a good name. Jason Campbell, like a guy like that to just push a little. But I want a real quarterback. Well, these are real quarterbacks. But they're backups. Remember, you cannot go out and sign a starter. No, no, no. Jake: Because it won't work. No, no, no. But I'm saying if you're going to go get somebody, it can't be. There's a level of backups. There's backups who are career backups, and there's backups who have been starters. And I want the guy who's been a starter. Justin: Well then there's also Matt Flinns. No, because he's not been a starter. Now that's two playoff teams. But that's what I mean. You've got that going on too. Or guess what, folks? You could draft a guy in the third round. No, the fourth round with your TiVo pick. You could draft a guy. You could draft, the next Russell Wilson could be yours. Yeah, so whatever. I mean if you're the Dolphins, are you shooting yourself in the foot because you drafted Tannehill like 10th overall and then Russell Wilson went in the third round? Aren't you saying to yourself, fuck we fucked up. If you're Cleveland and you've got 29 year old Brandon Weeden in the first round, you're paying him first round money. Aren't you saying, damn, we fucked up?
45:01 Jake: Yes, but then isn't everybody in the league, and this is the most overused thing on the fucking planet, but isn't everybody in the league going, no, fucked up because of Tom Brady. Just the teams that, well, just the teams that drafted quarterbacks. Well, but everybody has drafted a quarterback in the last 10 years and not had that quarterback not win three quarter, three Super Bowls. Well, because no other quarterback. Justin: There's actually a really good documentary. The NFL films did one called like the Brady Six. Yeah. Or the Brady 9 or the Brady 7. All the quarterbacks that were drafted in that draft, whether they were before or after. And anybody after him in the sixth round? Someone was drafting the seventh round. Yeah, there was like one or two or something. But like, and when they were drafted and what they accomplished, it was really, really good. You should try and find that. Yeah, is that a 30 for 30 this year? No, no, it was like an NFL, NFL Network, NFL Films thing. It was really good documentary. It was really good. I mean, sadly, I just, I think the problem with having Sanchez come back is, Jake: is I don't feel like there's going to be any tolerance, any tolerance anywhere. It's going to be rough at home. In the media, in the home, in the papers. Daily News. Well it all starts in like training camp on this podcast and in the preseason and and Justin: He really they look at this year's preseason. What did they do? They scored like no points They didn't even score a touchdown. I don't think in the whole pre-season. That was the whole point one touchdown So like that that's where it starts. It's like all right, if you're not gonna do it then we need to bring in somebody that can challenge and it was clear that For some reason, I don't think Rex was in on the Tebow thing because he would have played him. He would have. If it was a decision, he would have. But I think he's so tattooed with Sanchez's ability. He would have played him in that San Diego game instead of McElroy's. He's got the ink of his soul in him. He would have played him instead of Sanchez in game 7. He would have played him. I really don't think he wanted them. He would have played him. The only thing... So you think this conversation went down... Jake: Hold on, hold on. This conversation went down at the end of the year like this. This is Rex with Woody. I told you. I told you don't bring in fucking T-Bo. I tried to make it work. It didn't work. Fire a Tannenbaum. Let's get rid of T-Bo and let's go back to what I told you we should be doing. Why not? I would be happy with that because that means he's not a fucking idiot. Justin: Well, he's still there and nobody else is. Well, that also means he also could be owed a lot of money. Jake: Yeah, what do you also what he doesn't think year to year but he's what he thinks Justin: Well Rex has two years left which means he's got this year and then he's lame duck because any coach that's going into Their final year without is the year that they either get fired or get an extension, right? So he's literally got one year and I don't think he would care if he would fire him now. It wouldn't make no. Jake: I don't know. He would. I think I know because he's connected with Sanchez and it's basically saying, listen, you both fuckers got one more year to make. Justin: I don't think he was in on the T-bow thing. I don't think he wanted it. Jake: I would hope not. Justin: My my gut and my bet.
48:01 Justin: And we talked about this four weeks ago is that that was purely Woody Johnson. I just don't, I don't think that at all. I think it was- Because he would've played him, he just would've played him. Well then why? In week 16 he would've played him instead of McElroy. Right. You've said the whole year, you've said T-Bos the backup quarterback. Right. And then you sit the starter and you play the third string guy. Yeah, no it became obvious this wasn't real. It was a fucking mirage. And that's what owners do, not football people. Yeah, I don't know so or they didn't want to get hurt because he has no trading power right? so I think next year they just go they grab a serviceable backup or or You don't back up bring in someone who can really starting Jake: I know Alex Smith is just sort of whatever but like Like an Alex Smith. No. Like a guy who has a low-picker chill. You know why? Justin: Because they have to pay too much money for that guy. Jake: No, Alex Smith just signed a three-year contract. He's gonna be- Yeah. A lot of money. Justin: Uh, I don't know if he gets cut in how much. You can't have Sanchez and Alex Smith on the team making that money. You'll end up with nobody else weapons-wise. You'll end up in the same stupid boat. Jake: So you're gonna pay another million bucks to somebody just to come in for a year. Justin: or a couple or whatever. I mean, Tebow made like three. So you have a three, four million dollar budget for a backup quarterback that has starting quarterback, you know, credentials. I mean, oh, there's some really shitty names, but that's what it's going to be. Give me some shitty names. Rex Grossman. It's going to be like that kind of guy. Oh. Yeah, oh, it's right Jake: All right, well, let's get to something you're very happy started in a Super Bowl. Yeah, that's neat Sucks. the Jack King of fantasy. I won that shit. You're a big winner. Look at the big winner Good job. Let me tell ya I had to fight my ass off in that last Justin: Yes, last week. Yes Jake: You basically won because you basically won because one player went crazy. Yeah, you can well not really I can say it Justin: Well, it's not cuz one player went crazy. He put up like 30 points in that one game Yeah, and you were losing by 20, but I had a lot of guys in the last week. I was down 10 going into the week We each had crazy weak ones. He had 125, I had 115. Those are really high scorers. I'm not just scoring to make you lose right now. And Adrian Peterson, dude. That's why I won AD. All day, baby. All day. Not nine yards. But all day. No, I mean, I had Alfred Morris. He had 200 yards and three touchdowns in the last week. I mean, that that helps you. But he had a freaking good week, too. He had in week 16, he had 125 and in week 17, I have 125. That's insane. Yeah. And I just happened to have. Jake: 105, then I went 155, which is probably the weakly high for the entire season.
51:01 Jake: But that's why I'm saying it's insane. Like you pulled it out of your ass. You had the best week ever that you've ever had that anybody had all season long in your last week when you were down by 20 points. Because I'm clutch, bitch. No, you're not clutch. You had one fucking guy go insane. Look at the points. Justin: No, I didn't have one guy go insane. I had every single guy. Out of 10 39 points. But look at all these other guys. My quarterback had 19. Solid. That's solid. And this league got solid. No, his quarterback had 24. Okay, so CJ Spiller had 16. Alfred Morris had 39. Eric Decker had 19 from his quarterback. That's it. Strategic. Jake: You have no strategic. Alfred Morris was the guy who won it. Justin: Because that guy did not have my defense had 15 didn't that but my defense had 15 his defense had five Jake: But I won by 10 but the outer the outer the range thing is Alfred Morris hitting 39 and that's that's the way fantasy works Justin: Dude, I wonder what's it? It's not one guy. The whole team had to perform to get to 155 week other than that Jake: was 21. He almost blew out his, he almost doubled his best week average on the last week. You fucking lucky. To get to 155. You buttfunkle subchez. You lucky. You're just mad because I won. No, I came in third. I'm happy. Alright, so what should we do? Last year we said, we said the winner, we were gonna make a prize for the winner. I'm not giving you a fucking prize. First of all, I should get a prize. I will slap you across the face. I won, I should get a prize. I will slap you across the face right now. Justin: I should get a prize. I won. Jake: You're not getting a prize. You're not getting shit. Second of all, I was going to let the guy who won back in the league, I'm not doing that either. Guy who came in second back in the league. Alright, so Southwest homers, Steven Peterson, you get to come back in the league next year. Justin: It's his idea to do the league, so he's back. Jake: So you're back for next year, guaranteed, don't even have to answer any of the stupid questions. We'll start our stupid questions. Like after the draft and we'll do it a little better this year. Justin: And people who were in it this year, you're totally eligible to come back. Yes. We thoroughly enjoyed everybody being here. Everybody played. I don't think anybody flubbed it. No, everyone played. Everyone followed the rules. Yep. Might have some new wrinkles next year. Jake: We're gonna. We're gonna have new wrinkles. Oh, it's gonna be a good wrinkle. I like that wrinkle. All right. Well, now let's talk about some stuff that you're not winning. Oh, the picks. Oh, the picks. Oh, I gotta make this week's picks. Yeah, I already have. So any chance of you winning this year? Any chance of you beating me? Zero. Zero chance. Okay. Any chance of me coming in first again second year in a row? I believe there might be a chance that I have to. I am two out. Justin: So I have a good chance. Matty Jets, who's doing really good. Matty Jets did pretty good in the... Jake: He did okay in the fans. Basically it's me and Manny Jett's running because the next guy behind us I'm he's at 140. I'm 138 and then Ginger's at 131. So Ginger I don't know who Ginger is. He's seven behind and I think there's only four Six seven games to go. Gotcha. So I would have to lose every game And then that's so that so ginger can't win. I can take over Matty Jats, but everybody else is basically cannot win this thing, including my brother in law.
54:00 Jake: Fuck you, T-boo by week six. I can crush you again. Not only did he not play by his week six, but I crushed you again. I win and you owe me money. Justin: So we're in another like pick league together. Are you picking the same picks in this picks league as you are in the other picks league? Last week I did. I did too. I made- And I went 0 for 4. You went 0 for 4! Oh you suck so bad. I picked every underdog and every favorite one. Yeah, I picked half and half and I won half and half. Because I don't like doing every one or every the other but I just didn't like it. any of the favorites and I ended up yeah you're really back in that all right Jake: let's do it let's get your jackeen to pick we were so you're gonna now know Justin: my picks for that thing and I'll know your picks for that thing but I guess Jake: oh no you could say it doesn't matter I last last week I did this week I might Justin: not oh well I am I'm sticking to the same fine I don't really care and I'm not Jake: doing what I do by the way in the last week you saw Justin: Anyway, you know you just go opposite what I say Alright, so let's let's get to I mean, we're not even gonna review this has been such a long podcast We're not even gonna review what happened in week the first week of the playoffs. It was a good week I mean stand I didn't really think there were 54 minutes. I don't really think that there were any great games until the last game Like the the Houston Cincinnati game sucked that's a green bay game sucked cuz Minnesota didn't have their quarterback and I don't think it would have mattered anyway. Oh What a matter of a little could not go to the ball is terrible This is the Baltimore game It was just boring. The first half was incredibly boring. Jake: It was like 7-0 or something. Justin: And the Ray Lewis thing, I've seen that in person. We've said it's the greatest thing ever. I the the the of Jake: Well, I'm also glad to see you out of my conference. Justin: Get out of football.. the game of the R.G.3. Jake: I love his fanfans. He's on your fanfans for next year. Justin: and he's like out for like six to eight months. You got some choices to make. You're gonna keep him, it's so round. It's so low round. I gotta keep him. But that means there's another guy you're letting go. Well I was keeping him anyway. So, continue to keep him. Jake: You know that's like his second surgery on that knee. Yeah, whatever. Would never be the same. No, well look at Adrian Peterson. Yeah, second one the guy's 20 something he's already gone is he had it bail be fine ever. All right Justin: Let's pick that was my standout was was that game? I feel like game was great and I feel like if RG 3 didn't get hurt on the second drive of that game Washington wins that game Jake: I feel like what that proved is that that week, the wild car week proved was that there is something to be a being home, right? Although it didn't work for whatever the Redskins it comes It could have right I think if you I think they just put the other field is such shit Justin: They should be fine. They shouldn't even a lot. We find no no grass should just go away
57:00 Justin: I know grass is like you know you play football on grass But guess what that field turf is better than grass Jake: No the grass in Arizona where they have it outside and they tend it and it looks good dude on that yeah, but in Arizona Justin: It's easy to Jake: You know maintain grass in the northeast or is not don't be an idiot and have grass and go to that fucking turf thing Justin: Baltimore has the turf. Yeah, everybody has a turf. It's like 10 miles away. Yeah, you can get the fucking term Jake: I felt like this was a big setup for a big letdown weekend So like I feel like all the winners at a wild card And like, I could change my mind as we're doing this, but I feel like they're all, and then, you know, typically wild cards, some wild card guys or whatever division went, they'll do well and they'll keep going. I I feel like this is the one where they all, did well. And other than one, I think they're all going to hit a wall. Houston winning that game against one of the worst, I mean Cincinnati had no reason to be anywhere. They looked so bad. Justin: They were one of the hottest teams in football too. Jake: And it's just this one thing, if they can't do that one thing. Justin: Andy Dalton's terrible. Jake: Terrible. So like Houston winning against them is like okay. Now you're gonna go up against the baby dog. Let's do this for you. Justin: All right, let's go. Because that's the last game of the week. So Saturday. So no JK and pick them. We have to figure out who won. Jake: I think I won, but anyway. Bye. Justin: Oh, I don't know. Saturday starts at 4.30. We have Denver hosting Baltimore. And Peyton Manning back in the playoffs, playing against Baltimore. Peyton Manning doesn't lose to Baltimore, by the way. Peyton Manning needs to. Jake: Either way, oh, quick, I can see it. He's like 9-0 in his career against Baltimore. Yeah, whatever. Justin: Um... Denver is favored by nine. That's a lot of points, but I love me some Denver in this game. I, I feel like they have the perfect team to beat Baltimore. They can throw outside. They could throw over the middle. They can run the ball if they want. And they have really good defense. Because if they get up, boy, is it going to be really hard for Flacco to even stand there and throw because. And do that one fourth in 29. DumaVille and Von Miller are going to be. Jake: ahead. So I like Denver. I straight up I like Denver to win but don't like the points. Nine is nine is just too much in the playoffs there's too much on the stake. I can see he's going 31-17. Oh no it's gonna it's gonna be closer again I think Denver will win. They just blew them out. in Baltimore. Yeah, I just I just and I baltimore's a crappy road team Justin: Um, I don't believe in Baltimore. They just blew their wad with that emotional bullshit with Ray Lewis. And here's my deal Jake: I picked Baltimore to go to the Super Bowl. I know you did. So I kind of half a pick them To like cover so right so pick them. So i'm picking them baltimore Justin: All right. Um next game I think this... By the way, where's your Chicago pick and your Jets? Chicago Jets, that's unbelievable. Jake: Where's my Baltimore Green Bay? Are they still in? Yeah, they are. Justin: So this game to me is the game of the weekend.
1:00:00 Justin: It's the Saturday Primetime game, 8 o'clock Saturday in San Francisco. We got San Francisco, Favorite by 3 hosting Green Bay in a rematch of week one when San Francisco beat Green Bay 30 to 22. to. Let me just pull this shit out of my fucking head. Yeah, it is pretty good. You actually know that? I actually know that. That's pretty good. Um, fact check, fact check. San Francisco with the rookie quarterback, essentially rookie, Colin Kaepernick, going against, you know, the guy, Aaron Rodgers. Yes. And... Jake: If only he had to throw against what Aaron Rodgers, but he doesn't. Justin: Well, they don't have to. throw against each other. They're throwing against each other's defenses. Green Bay's defense. Not so good. Not so good. San Francisco defense. Very, very good. Jake: Fucking really good. Justin: But I like me the experience of Green Bay in this game. And I like getting the three points. I think they're going to win anyway. So give me Green Bay. Jake: Yeah, I should be picking Green Bay because I did pick Green Bay to go to the Super Bowl. This is a tough one, though. Justin: I think this is going to be a great game. Jake: I think there's two games on a I think he brings a lot to it. I think he has the... I can run it thing but I think he actually can pass very well. He's not just, it's not just the run that he has. I think San Francisco at home, you know, I think they won't, I like them at home and I like their defense. I think Green Bay got shown up in the Vikings two weeks ago. So I feel like this is sort of a, you know... I feel like they, they, Greenmay used all their power. They, they, they got shown up against Vikings and they come back and they win against a quarterback who has no point being on the field. And it became a one trick pony. And even then they could, I don't even, I think, I think Adrian Preeves had a good game, even, even though they had, they knew they were going to give it to him every single time. I feel like San Francisco is just going to play their ball and they're going to play it pretty well. I think they're going to win. So I'm going to say San Francisco. Justin: Alright, let's move right along to Sunday. Jake: This is where I know we disagree. Justin: Yeah, we disagree here, I'm sure. Atlanta is hosting Seattle. Atlanta is the number one seed at home and is only favored by two and a half, which means people like Seattle. Jake: Yes, and well, I mean, Atlanta has a history of never winning in the playoffs with Matt Ryan. Well, with Matt Ryan. Well, that's what I said, with Matt Ryan and Last year they got shut out. Justin: Shut out by the Giants. Whose defensive coordinator apparently is horrible. Yeah, horrible. I'll go. I'll go first. Jake: I think this is- I know who you're picking. I think this is when the rookie Roost comes back.
1:03:01 Jake: And we were talking today, I was like, you know, rookies going on the road and winning against good teams at home is tough. You're like, yeah, but remember that whole Sanchez? And I said, yeah, I do. And he has everything in it. This is the Sanchez story again. A guy who's playing good ball, who has a great running game and an incredible defense, they play lights out. But I also thought Red sins could have won last week. They went up 14-0. They had every chance to win that game and they kind of fucked it over by not, you know, whatever. I feel like this is the year that Atlanta does it because they don't do it this year. There's going to be some change because you can't do this every year as I get there and then not even win a game. This is not even like, this is not even Andy Reid getting to the, you know, championship and not winning. This is like... Justin: Not winning a game. Yeah, I just felt that all they needed to do is be in the dome, right? That's what they felt right all they needed was home field and they got killed by Green Bay two years ago at home Jake: They got killed by they got killed by Greek Giants at away. I think this is the year. I think they're gonna win. I think they're gonna have enough to show up. Now again, there's everything against me because they played spotty in the last five games or so. They lost a couple games they didn't need to lose. Justin: I don't know if they've had like, you know, recently I'm just gonna look at them. But I just think two- I don't think they've had like a really good like signature, you know, I guess their signature win was down the stretch when they just beat the crap out of the Giants. Right? For nothing. nothing. That was revenge game. Yeah, pretty much, but I think they can play that well. That's the point Jake: They can play that well. I think they're gonna show up whoever they go up against next week They'll get crushed by but I feel like this is the game. They're gonna prove. Alright, let me tell you why I'm picking Seattle Justin: Well, I know why you're picking Seattle. Well, you don't know why I'm picking Seattle cuz you think they're gonna win There's more there's a little more to it playing the little more to it. All right I think Seattle has the perfect defense to oppose the Atlanta offense and the Atlanta offense is their is their strength with Roddy White and with Julio Jones on the outside and Tony Gonzalez over the middle. I think Seattle has the best secondary in the entire league better than the Jets secondary when Reavis is healthy with Browner Sherman and those two safeties are really awesome So they they've got it. They've got the tools and then they have the pass rushers. They they lost Clemens, which is a bad injury, but they've got the linebackers. They've got the defensive line. They can shut down the run. They can shut down the pass. They've got the defense and their offense is just. They play very mistake free. They run the ball well with Marshawn Lynch. They don't give up on the run. They run some read option stuff to throw you off and Russell Wilson's pretty clever. And he doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He really just doesn't. Yeah, he's grown up quite a bit.
1:06:02 Justin: Secondly, I think that was one point. I think that's only six hours long. I think there's a little bit of football karma that needs to occur where Green Bay and Seattle need to play each other in the NFC Championship game. Think about why. I'm trying. Why does Green Bay need to play against Seattle in the NFC Championship game? Oh, why do these two teams need to play again again this year for the catch? They not catch. Because that caused Green Bay getting a bye week. It got Seattle into the Green Bay would have been would have finished the season second, right and they would have a bye week. They wouldn't have to play last week. Seattle, you know, while they were the five seed, they wouldn't, you know, they would have been 10 and six and would have been in that slouch that that like mix. They might not even made the playoffs. Right. These two teams need to play again to get that over with. Winner takes all goes to the Super Bowl. Enough of this bullshit phantom catch. We won. You won. No. They need to play on the field. It needs to happen. The NFL will rig it. It will happen. I'm picking Seattle. Seattle to win. Getting two and a half. Wow. It's a great story. I just don't think it'll happen. The story's got to happen. That's why. And the last game. Not the game of this entry. Game one. The AFC. Last game in the AFC. New England is hosting. Houston in what I think is gonna be a Laffer. There's two paper Tigers in this this is gonna be a Laffer. Jake: Actually three. I think Baltimore, Atlanta, and Houston are all paper Tigers. I feel like they're all teams that like they're gonna go up against real teams and get beat. But you just picked Atlanta. Yeah I feel like they're the one team that I think because I don't feel like Seattle is I don't feel like Seattle can go on the road twice to the east coast and win. Again, if not for RG3 being whatever, I don't think they would have won that game. So I feel like they kind of got it. Justin: But Atlanta is more conventional. See that Washington offense was really hard to stop because they were unconventional. This is like a conventional offense that can be stopped. Okay, yeah now now Whatever we're on to the next game. New England is gonna crush Houston They just crushed him like a month ago Right in New England and I see no reason why they wouldn't crush him again the lines nine and a half I think they double that I think New England beat some you know somewhere in the mid Jake: 30s somewhere in the teens not gonna pick anything the same good. Yeah Justin: So you'll go for- You like Houston wide, the points? Jake: No, yeah, just the points. I feel like Houston's not gonna get beat like that again. I think they will, I think they're gonna get, they're gonna lose, but I don't think by nine and a half points. I just can't see them going there. I mean, they have enough weapons to not get destroyed like that.
1:09:04 Jake: So anyway, I'll take Houston. I'll take Houston. And so we literally have nothing the same. So I will go up another four on you and you will go down another four or we'll split them up. Maybe, yeah. We'll split them two and two. All right, well, that's it for this week. Jeez, been a long one. Join us next week. Go to thejectkingdom.com. Go to the fan page on. on.
