00:09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Can't wait! Three, two, one, go! Go, go, go, go! Weee! Welcome to Jet Kingdom podcast. the longest running near jets podcast ever ever ever ever my name is Jake and joining me one sip of beer is not even the outtake no real this is this is for real this shit's real shit just got one sip of your two-year-old home bro and I lost it You're gum bonkers. Hey Jake. Hey Justin, how you doing buddy? I'm good. We got some shit to talk about today. The draft went down. I, yeah, we're gonna talk about that. We're gonna talk about JK birthday. Is it a birthday? It was. So one of the podcasts that we didn't do, that we had an agenda that we didn't do, that was what I was gonna talk about. JK's birthday. How old are we? Well, I guess we'll just jump right in there then. Just kidding. Who cares? We're gonna talk about a bunch of stuff. So Jet Kingdom was born on March 25, 2004. The website. Nine years old. The website. Pre-podcast. We started the podcast on August 21st, 2007. 2007. So, yes. Look at the math man. Look at him counting with his fingers. Really? 2007? Count from the years. Yeah. So this is... We're coming up on six years of podcasting. Yeah. Well, I mean, 180- That makes us like grand parents in the world of podcasts. I feel like there's people who used to podcast longer than us who have now gone away. Like, Dig Nation, like TRS. We're onto whatever is the next thing. Whatever it might be. I think podcasts are at the top, they're at the peak of where I've been. The most hits, the most people, the more, I mean, there's a lot of podcasts. Connecting, just connection. Connection to the internet in your pocket makes it much more useful. Yeah, and to get them, and the apps are getting better. I mean, literally just in the last year. You need to start in cars. Cars need podcasts apps. Yes they do. Yes they do. Built in. Or just Bluetooth me everything. Yeah but if it's built into the radio. Yep. Man that would be good. That would be great. Internet and I just want to drive somewhere and listen to myself talk. So so that's it nine years. Yeah moving right ahead and uh and we have a little review the other day I want to bring this up in the beginning of the podcast. Do you have your day? Well I say the other day by January 12th. We haven't mentioned that. Well the reason
03:01 Jake: We capture from being miserable even though we're miserable miserable yes So now it's all about the draft. This is gonna be a big, so here's what we're gonna do today. We just tick this off before we go to the draft. Yeah. I wanna, before we go to the draft, I just wanna do the T-Bo thing. And then we can say goodbye to him forever. Because let's say goodbye to him and then let's get to the fresh start. Okay, all right, good. So goodbye, T-Bo. Goodbye, Tevo. You're gone. Tevo was a little bit less than two days ago. People, writers, beat writers, people who follow the Jets. Your personal man crush on Minish Metta? My personal feud with Minish Metta. If Minish Metta was a real man, he would feud with me. But he's not. He's scared of me. What did I call him on Twitter? He called him something not nice. Called him a bitch or something. I mean don't be that guy who like fights a big blonde glitter. He deserves it. He's pretty bad. I just wish Tim Tebow beat him up before he left town. That would be nice. So anyway, what are people saying about Tim Tebow? That it was the worst personnel decision in the history of the New York Jets. Not even close. No, they gave examples of like bad Jets personnel decisions and it was really right up there. It was like really there. Financially it's not. you, that cost us like 20 million dollars. That has nothing to do with it. It was like here's the first round bust. But first round busts happened, this was a decision to go. Oh, I see. And get a player and it. Okay. Okay. killed didn't it killed a season it killed your quarterback Yeah, it killed everything and he was he's a very useless. He's a curse. I don't wanna say I hope these occurs No, I feel like on in the right look he was in the right situation That he had there in Denver and he won if he was in the right situation He could probably be a serviceable player. He's not willing to say that he's not a quarterback and the NFL is not willing to say that he is a quarterback. So he's going to have to go play elsewhere because I don't think anyone's going to employ him as anything but a football player not playing quarterback. So you can play special teams, you can play halfback, you can play tight end, you can learn some new position. But really, do you really need that clown circus? for a dude who needs to learn a new position, no, you may as well just get a guy off the street. I started off last year saying I didn't like it. I then tried to convince myself and everybody listening that it was okay and if they use them correctly and it's like Brad Smith, but with a guy who went through all that. I then went to the, you know, there's like the seven modes of like loss or whatever. And then I went to the, well, he's really a good guy. He's not doing anything. But I came out and I came out at that Tennessee game when we were down in that Tennessee on that
06:00 Jake: fucking Monday night game. And I watched it all season long. I watched... I said this before. I'm gonna say it again. There's something about that. Oh, it's for everybody else, that's a lot for you. So he was always like, oh, I'm doing this for other people and I'm helping other people and I'm the last person off the field and I'm always helping out. And there's a piece of that that's about you being noticed for being a good guy. And I think it juxtaposed also being... you teammate and he was not a teammate of the New York Jets. He was the guy, the last guy in the locker room because he spent another five minutes outside talking to people. He was the guy who had the media attention. He was a guy talking to people. He liked the attention. He had a 200 person press conference for a backup quarterback. And this is why it was one of the worst personnel decisions in the history. So do you believe that? So you want to rank it as the number one? I mean, you know, they had a lot of them were drafts, right? They had Goulston. Yep. Blair Thomas, which I remember. I mean, that was really bad. You know, you can say like it was bad decision to draft Ken O'Brien instead of Dan Marino. Yeah, but that's like a draft decision. You know, sometimes you just draft. a bust. Sometimes you draft Colin Kaepernick in the second round. Well then every team fucked up. Right. Every team missed Colin Kaepernick and now here he is starting in the Super Bowl. Let's do the number one example ever. Oh you get sick Tom Brady in the sixth round. Tom Brady in the sixth round. Everybody fucked up. Everybody made a bad personality. 31 teams and included the Patriots. We should have picked them up earlier. Yeah I mean there were other bad, I can remember, and just... in my, what I can remember, I'd rank Tebow as being one of the worst. Neil O'Donnell was a bad one. But Tebow was really bad. I mean, he's very divisive, very, brought a lot of attention that didn't need to be brought. And I feel like it wasn't... You know, it was our choice. We went after him and said we want you. We have a plan for you. And they didn't It's like a back page winning thing. playing for the winning football game. Stop competing against the Giants. On the papers. Compete on them. So don't pick our big crazy people.
09:04 Jake: And I think you saw that in Australia. We didn't go over anything other than one. But we went for need, we went for big guys, we went for big fat guys, it was all about the future. and solidifying the game as opposed to fancy sauce picks, although with one example. All right, so that's it. Draft the beef. Let's, before we move on to this year's draft. Beef, or. I like to go back to No, no, I'm just saying, I'm just saying, I'm just saying, I'm just basically. Domario Davis down only had we had a first a second a third and then we had Sixths and sevens. Remember we didn't have like any middle of the middle of the pack draft pick So Quentin Cobles looks good as a first round pick thus far so far one year a middle of the first round pick That's fine Stephen Hill wild card in the second round. Yeah, no Showed some flashes, also showed some very, very bad inconsistencies. Got injured, drops, basically a wide risk. Other than that first game where he had three touchdowns and we all thought, or sorry. All his stats were in the first game of the year after they did nothing. is slotted as a starter this year and a third round pick to starting the next year I think that's a good that turns out to great out there well but then you get to round six I mean Josh Bush safety still on the team probably get some run this year Gannaway they cut before season the wrong Robert Griffin they cut Then Antonio Allen, safety, still on the team, probably gets him run this year. Played a little last year. And Jordan White was on and off the practice spot last year. I'm sure he'll make, he's probably on the roster now, but So looking back, we're gonna go into this year, we'll see one, two, three, three starters from last year. You'll probably see three. Maybe four starters. Yeah, but I don't want those safeties to start but okay I don't know the choices, but okay, but me three that we're happy with yeah, I saw moments of Damario Davis
12:03 Jake: I don't have to be happy with Queen cobles. I think you could be happy with Stephen Hill I think you'd be happy with Damario Davis. I also think you know the The value of these two safeties Allen and Bush will likely be seen on special teams as well, which you can't forget is a big part of the game. We saw what bad special teams can do to you. We last year, which was uncharacteristic cause we've seen what good special teams can do for you. So those guys will hopefully be developed in that realm as well. So let's get to this year. Do you want to do this thing? No, we're not going to do this thing. There was a conference, it was after the draft, there was a post draft. I just took copious notes for Justin. Thanks. I appreciate it, Dustin. I really did. So let's go through... Alright, so here's what we're going to do. Like we do this every year. What we do is we grade... The picks, well actually I don't know if we do this every year, I know we give a grade every year to the overall, but this year we're gonna grade, we have rounds, picks, players, and we're gonna grade each pick, and then we're gonna have a total grade at the end. And going into, I mean this is, I think first year, so a couple things. One is, I went again this year, I got suckered in at the last moment, I wasn't gonna go, you and I were gonna watch it here, all of a sudden someone calls me up, I got... Really good tickets tickets to paradise three tickets paradise free food free free alcohol come watch I had dolphins buddies like let's go we went we had a great time Much more as I said in the podcast last time it wasn't so much when watching alone is much more fun going with somebody else So that was fun. Anyway with the dolphins fan. He made a big move in the first round right? And it's just better to have some of the chat with while there's nothing going on. There's so much time. Yeah, I'm saying. I mean, we were there for like three and a half hours. So, and the first thing John Isak, his new regime start, this is it. Like this, this, these series of drafts, this thing is going to be the thing in three years that John Isak stays around or John Isak... goes away because you make your hay as a general manager. Free agency is one thing but the draft is big. You pick well. There's some guys who just do amazing in the draft. I'm hoping that he's one of them. We didn't know what he's going to do. Like he you know is it going to be a splashy guy? Was it going to be trader Mike? We knew Mike was flashy. He liked making good splashes. He liked to move up. He liked to move around. He liked to move to get his guys. He oftentimes moved up. Mostly up, I think trader Mike almost never moved down. Like sometimes we came out of drafts with three picks. Yes, I remember that year. Ruined, ruins the team sometimes. Yeah, so you know, was this guy gonna stand pat? Was he gonna trade? And this draft as a general was talked about as a very Deep draft, but not a very splashy draft. So like last year. Very horizontal. Very horizontal. So lots of quality talent, but no peaks of amazing talent.
15:03 Jake: No one that people just went at and go, that guy is amazing. Three of the first four picks were tackles. Right, that says a lot. Yeah, I mean usually one of the top five picks is the tackle. But three of the first four picks being a tackle. First time in 30 years of running back didn't go in the first round. Didn't even go in the first round. So clearly this is a lot about this draft. So let's get into it. And there's only one quarterback. He went like 16. Someone who traded back because I knew they could get him later. Yeah, we'll get him later. We'll get him later. And he wasn't even the... He was the sixth... ranked quarterback like That's very strange. All right, so round one. We went in with two picks in the first round Yeah, 9 and 13. And came out with two players. That's how it works. Player number one, D Milner. That's his pronouncement. Milner, like you did the other second eye is silent. I am gonna not pronounce that second eye Because that's gonna be hard, for Mylener. Milner is gonna be hard. So it's Milner. Milner. No, D Milner Can D. Milner put the defense back in rest's defense? Nah, I said defense for the kid because he'll forever be. compared and linked to Dorell Reavis because he's basically being drafted to replace Dorell Reavis whom we traded away for a draft pick. Now this is not how and everyone who listened to last week's podcast this is not exactly how I want this to play out. So what was your pick you wanted to go? I want Taevon Austin who went before the Rams traded up to get one spot ahead of us to eight because they knew we were picking him at nine. So they went and picked up Tae'von Austin, which I think through us, because I feel like we would have drafted Tae'von and then waited for 13 to draft D. I think Steve Milner, we would have waited around to 13 to see if he was there or not. Yeah. That's my gut on it. But they had Smith targeted at 13, but once he dropped beyond, what they saw the quarterback start to drop, they just went, he's going to stick around, Yeah, because I feel like our entire draft basically not got shot by that but like set our draft a total different way We didn't pick a whiteout. No, we didn't we we had one guy that we wanted and if we wanted We were gonna use the number one pick on that guy, but we didn't get it We weren't gonna pick another whiteout. Isn't that weird? No
18:18 Jake: The need of players. Right? Well they pick by their board, they pick the players. Yeah, but a lot of people pick by need. Like you need this, you go after it. That's if you really, really need something. Well, we- but the Jets really, really need a lot of things. That's why you pick players. But then they didn't pick to their needs. It's not like the Falcons two years ago who were like, damn, we're getting shut out in playoff games, we need a wide receiver. We're gonna go get Julio Jones. That's a need. Trade it up. It's basically like their whole draft. Right, exactly. That's a need. This is a we need Everything so we're gonna pick the best players that are available. Yes, but you could say we need everything but so so okay So let's talk D. Milner I'm happy with his pedigree. He's from Alabama. Yep. So he's won national title. He's Was widely regarded as the best corner. Yeah, we know Rex loves his corners. He gets to slide Kyle Wilson back into the slot where he was where he kind of has been playing the last couple years so they've got you know some serious talent at the cornerback position and hopefully D milliner can step in and play the kind of man-to-man defense that Rex is gonna want him to play and allow the defense to do some of the things that they're gonna want to do up front. Yep, I mean it's it is a little bit crazy to think that you know you get rid of the best quarterback quarterback ever second best or best. And then you go pick another guy. Did you really do anything there? So you got rid of the best guy and you got a guy who could be very good. Do you know how much money you saved? Well, that's where it all comes out. And someone broke it down on one of these shows and they said, the number is $54 million. That's how much you signed over the, I think, over four years. That's how much you just saved. $54 million. And that point becomes, okay, so even if D. Milner is... Good? It's worth the $54. and they'll go money, it's making it like, yeah, you might as well go get a rookie for this low amount if someone else on the market is willing to pay the big bucks, $96 million for Revas. Well, none of that's guaranteed anyways. Oh, I know, but I'm saying he's gonna get a couple of it. All right. So I drafted this as an A-minus.
21:00 Jake: A-minus? Yeah, I really like the pick. He has good pedigree. The participating, right but the other than that best draft how to use corners they know how to make it seems like a logical play and a way to get for a team that has to rush the way to get a pass rush is to cover that Because if you cover guys better and longer, you have longer time to get to the quarterback. And in the AFC East, where there's spread offense is everywhere. Spread offense in New England. Buffalo is going to run a spread offense. And Miami kind of runs a form of a hybrid West Coast spread. You need guys who can cover. Yeah, I like this pick. I give it a the plus. I don't think it's an A because I think it's... We're half a... we're literally half a greater part. Yeah, I think... I don't think a solid pick. I'm excited about the prospect. For the money, if you factor in everything, it's a good pick. I Big physical guy, again, the downsides I've heard in him was that he was in a system that was made in the back of who he really is. And I watched all the highlights, excuse me, all the highlights for all the players. And this one, one of the ones that was, they show these highlights of when they make a pick, like they make a, you know... And when the ball just floats to you, because the wide receiver just, or the wide receiver took the long route, or the quarterback just was throwing it to nobody, and you just like stand there and you catch the ball and you run the direction, like I get it, it's a highlight because it's an interception. That's not a highlight. Like watching Reavis go up against, not Braille and Edwards, up against, ugh. I know who you're thinking, but I'm gonna let you struggle for a moment. Oh god, I always confuse those two, whatever. Umm... Come on, give it to me. Well, you're thinking one of two guys. You're thinking Des Bryant? No. You're thinking Brandon Marshall. Brandon Marshall. Watching him go against Brandon Marshall was just... He was like mastery, and it wasn't about picks. Although I did pick right in front of him, ran for touchdown. But it was like how he was just hanging all over him without getting called on it. and then have his timing be so amazing to come in at the last very second and just go boop and hit the ball so the guy could catch it. Unbelievable. So I'm excited. I like the name. Dean Milner, I'm excited. Let's go, I'll give it a B plus. Can't wait to get my Milner jersey. All right, oh is that it? Now you're in for a Milner jersey? Yeah, I'm not getting a Geno Smith. So I'll have to do it. Oh, well, okay. All right, next up.
24:00 Jake: So just a few picks later. Sheldon Richardson. Defensive tackle. So here's some stats. Last four years of Rex's drafts, in the first round we've picked three defensive tackles and two cornerbacks. We've not picked three defensive tackles. Sorry, three defensive linemen. That's okay. Yeah, that seems like and the big thing on this one is it's the same position that's all the guys we've been picking every year play. No. This is like picking a quarterback every year. No, he's a tackle. The other guys are ends. We play 3-4. They're gonna be in a lot of 3-4 and a lot of 4-3. They're gonna move into a 4-3 and they're gonna play you know... They're going to play Copples and Wilk on the ends, like true ends, and they'll play Richardson and Ellis in the middle. And it'll depend on, you know, the downs. Like 24, 23, Ellis. Well, you know, the defense couldn't stop the run last year. So they needed some beef up front on defense. I really wanted them to pick offense. Because I felt like, well, okay, you've got a bad offense and your defense is gonna be good regardless but I Can't fault them for like trying to make the defense as good as they possibly could like if you give Rex players That defense is gonna be good Well, here's what I think this these two picks said about this entire draft was that and I will be Interesting about the phone call as well. Everybody got on the phone call, most of them were like, hey Rex, we don't wanna see you go. But, because everybody feels like this is just his lame duck ear for him. This was not a lame duck, this was a Rex Ryan draft. Yeah, it did feel like a Rex Ryan draft. Like if, I mean I know Trader Mike is gone because he would have traded the shit out of this and gone up and down 500 ways for that place. Yeah, that 9 in 13 would not have been selected. No. Feel like you would have moved down because this was the year every one of us moved down team would have moved down Yeah, or nine and thirteen would have moved up. There's no one to go up to Up and pay what he moved up to take Gino Smith. Yeah So so this is where I'll be angry about this draft where my anger will start is if this is a Rex Ryan Draft and you just pick these guys for Rex Ryan basically If you go and fire this guy at the end of the year, right, or in the middle of the year, you basically just, you've done the wrong thing. Like if you wanted to make, if he rexwands to be gone, then you should just pick something else. Right? I mean again, it's a lot of beef, so it's not like skill players, but like, I don't know. I just feel like why give him, why give this a rexwand defense thing? And then fire him at the end of the year and sort of the next guy's got this draft that you kind of could have done something with other than that. I like going D. Great D again.
27:00 Jake: Question is are we going to give up the ball and do the fumbles and all that kind of stuff to make the D's life harder? Can we have a drive that goes more than three plays? That's it. The D is gonna be good. We got turn ball over on our side of the field. Or just let them intercept it and run it back for a touchdown. Throw 18 interceptions. So Richardson, I mean massive guy. You gave it a C-minus. I gave a C-minus because I don't think that it's not, if you said where's the big need in this, you could say run D is our big need, but it's not the big need over the draft. It's not the big need of the Jets. Well, I can... position, skill position players. I can argue that with you. Of course you can. Well, I totally agree. Offense is where I would have spent one of those first two picks on a skill position player. But if you're sitting there at 13, and you're saying to yourself, well, now. We had a shit run defense last year and there's no skill position player worth drafting. I got no one to trade with because no one wants to move up. I'm gonna make my run defense better. They were 26 rank run defense. Why not pick one of the two tight ends? Because they were going for better value. Yeah, I don't think the difference between where I don't know where they went but they're one was in the first round one Was right at the top of the second round There there's a huge need they had quality players right those are two great tight end big guys I I would have picked Tyler Iford I that's that's why I'm giving a C- I didn't think this is what they need to pick They had this guy as a better player. I don't think he was gonna go off 3-point, you know, you don't know that you have no idea. No idea where these guys were gonna go so I gave it a B just because I feel like because the staple of of Rex's defense over the years has been nobody can run on us It's like nobody gets a hundred yards running out. Yeah until they until last year where it was like spanked or everybody Ran 100 yards on us. It was every every fucking guy ran for a hundred yards on us starting in week one where CJ Spiller ran for like 150 yards on like 12 carries You know was was always those big runs It's like whenever they the the offense our defense was down You know and they had like their first and ten on the two remember like Chris Johnson. He did it Peter certain a few times not Peterson Foster did it to us, didn't Foster make a big run right from the 10 yard run? Yeah, every game there was a big run. So I remember, Puah's gone, DeVito's gone. Yep. So there's holes to fill. Yeah. So I don't think this is that bad. Oh, it's C- I didn't give it an F. Well, C- is like, er. Yeah, that's what it is. That's what it is. Yeah, it is. You're lowest pick. You didn't even give them anything other than a... You never give anything below a C.
30:01 Jake: That's right. He's such a fucking... Look, this next pick I came all the way from an F all the way to where I am now. You were so pissed about this pick when it happened. I was so angry. I think you turned off your phone. You were sick of me texting you. I did. I was so mad. So second round... So again, remember that... And everybody knows this is a listening podcast, but they do one round, one night. Thank you for watching. Then you have an entire day to think about what you're going to do that next day. Re-evaluate your board, redo whatever. And then, you know, Friday night starts. And there's still, every quarterback except for one, EJ Manuel, who went to the Bills, you know, is on there including the best quarterback by everybody's ranking. And, you know, off they come and I just was watching one go off, watching another one going. And then you can see the people were starting, is it going to be there? Is it going to be there for the Jets? The Jets were going to take him and I was like... And we said, and I said, and I said last night, I said all the time, I said like, don't pick quarterbacks. We had five on our roster at the point that they picked this guy. And then they go ahead with the 39 pick and pick Geno Smith, quarterback, West Virginia. Who I immediately texted my buddy, who's a big college fan, I said, so what do you think about the pick? He's like, he's like, he's like. All right. told crap crap player He's like he got all his stats from from Taevon Austin like these one yard shuttle passes or touch passes or tap passes they call him and I now watch a ton of video of Mr. Gino Smith and Taevon would take it for 90. It's like oh you so you you tap the ball to him One yard or two feet and then that guy took it 90 yards and you got the 90 yards in touchdown I mean you guys have incredible stats His completion percentage was off the charts. There's a record at West Virginia. His, he won game, he threw like 600 yards in a game. Like he's got real talent. So I actually think I came back from, I don't want any quarterback, so I say this is a B and it's only a B because where it is. Because here's the deal. So. Second round quarterbacks, you owe nothing to. You don't have to start them. You don't have to do anything with them. And if you piss on them the next year and you send them off to Nowheresville or two, three years when their contract's up, nobody gives a shit. Nobody looks at your second round picks and says, you made a mistake. Kellen Clemens style. Yep. First round picks. I mean, how many second round picks? I mean, I'm trying to think of the Dolphins. They were picking, there's a couple of years they pick like. Quarterbacks every second round they they all just went away. They went away No one ever use them because no one really pays attention Oh quarterback second round. Okay, whatever So I like this from the value like it was good value. He was he's ready to go much higher He fell because of need and because no one wanted them or whatever He could have huge upside and I like to consider this the 49ers effect We have a beleaguered first-rounder who has his ups and downs in the league. We have a second-rounder who came in who has a lot of athletic ability. And at some point in the next year or year and a half,
33:00 Jake: there might be a horrible decision we have to make. Where do we go? Right? Because we've got two guys who we think can get the job done. Maybe injury will tell us where, where to go with that. But that's kind of how I got back to a B. I got it for the value. and I got it for the you don't owe him anything. The whole competition with Sanchez, all that's, I honestly don't think that when the training camp starts, we'll start, no question about that. During the season, if Sanchez has a five picker game or a butt fumbler, I could totally see them swapping this guy in fast. But, or we start to go down to a oh and something. Oh and three, oh and four, oh and five. We have a San Francisco game like we had last year, one of those puppies, I just didn't be like, okay, that's it, you're going anyway, you gave it to eight million or the 60 million or 12 million for this year. You're done. So what do you come out on it? Well it started as an F and then it worked its way up from there and it made its way all the way up to a B plus believe it or not. How does that happen? So you just sit there and you rudder yourself for days convincing yourself that this was a better and better pick as the day's been on. Yep. All right so tell me why you went from an F total failure to a B plus. , I which may be delusional. No, I think he had the capability, he has a wasn't Tebow. That was wrong. That was a bad decision. Because Tebow wasn't better than him. Jet, like Long Island people. Do you know? Yeah, exactly. Oh, and G-E-N-O. Jets, Jets, Jets. Yeah, right. I still like Rancho Sancho. But he's going to hear nothing but butt foam. Well, he's going to push him. And this is the first time where he actually has like real competition. And I want to see that. push Sanchez to be better or push him out of the way and have Geno just be better than him.
36:17 Jake: I feel like the pick with the glared deserves a B+. Because if he pushes Sanchez to a level of and Um Not that i'm not pleased with one his his flip-flopping on Yeah, sitting there in the first round Getting picked deciding not to be pre-chirted day two and then you know deciding the dog is absolutely insane He's going to hear that the dogs just, he's going to sleep. He just went 9-8. He's going to sleep. It's 7 o'clock on the night exactly what he does. I'm out. I'm out. So his flip-flopping on weather to show up for night number two because he didn't get picked on night number one. Like someone got in his ear and was like, yo, dude, show the fuck up. Show the fuck up. Because you're looking bad right now. Because you know what? Aaron Rodgers sat there for the first 26th picture. And dealt with it. And he still has that chip on his shoulder. And he's going to drive him to this day. He'll never forget it. Just like Tom Brady will never forget that he was drafted in the 6th round when he should have been the number one overall pick. Like it just. You should use that. And then he went and fired his agents. And that- to me was like, really dude? You fired your agents? Like it's your agents fault you didn't get drafted in the first round. And that makes me like, hmm. All this stuff like, yeah, I'm glad the Jets pick me. Are you or would you have rather you probably would have rather just gotten picked number 20 said in the center I'm like the Vikings or whoever know I can put them in well whatever right anywhere Yeah, yeah, so it's like yeah, yeah, no that knocked it down from being like a really good Like here's the number one quarterback prospect in the whole draft and you got him in the second round Being like an a-plus pick to being a b-plus pick. Okay Yeah, that attitude he's gonna have to Fire your agent that's like that's bullshit and then to come out and be like I didn't fire him because of the draft Well, yeah, you fucking did why'd you fire him? Why'd you fire him? Yeah, exactly You did, you fucking idiot. Well first of all, because your agent's got nothing to do now.
39:00 Jake: Because your contract, your signed is locked. So your agent's not negotiating that shit for you. So the only thing the agent had to do was the pre-draft stuff. So he fired it, but I don't wait. There's too much to not know. He fired his agent because the agent fucked up the draft and he could have gotten picked higher because the agent has something to do with that. Okay. Fine, people fire people all the time. I think the first, not saying he was gonna say the second round, and then coming in the next day, that was not cool. I'm not sure the whole competition for Sanchez thing is a reality. I think Sanchez, the only competition Sanchez needs is in his head. And probably, and good coaching. But it's not about. But he's gonna have good coaching this year. Well, that's why I think, I think, I think if he succeeds, he will succeed because of good coaching, not because of. competition. He's gonna succeed. There's gonna be a few reasons. Good coaching is one of them. Health, not him, but those around him is gonna be key. So, Holmes healthy. Right. And Hill. And the next three picks. Hill growing up. Curly healthy. and those running backs they brought in healthy. Like staying healthy will help him be successful. Or anyone that's really sitting back there. Alright, so let's move on. You gave it a B plus, I gave it a B. And that's me going off for my dog who literally just made his own bed again. And then in the third round, they went for... The worst of these guys I don't know. I don't know. I just drafted like the position. So they went for Brian Winters. I fancy. Ken State. You gave it a B. Yeah, I gave it a B plus because... Because I don't know him, but guard. Great. Yeah? Need guards. Need guards. Need guards. Well, let's go... Because I think that was an interesting pick. I think the next pick was... the best and I like to put these in as picks because they get forgot like oh you you know Well, you didn't have a fourth pick, but we picked someone in the fourth round We got someone for that pick pick went away player came in so Chris ivory from the Saints Came in as our fourth round pick and we both gave this you gave it the highest grade ever Which is an A plus and I gave it an A you could not We went from being a back field that I was extremely worried about to one that I think is going to surprise share to people. They have two running backs that are not LeShawn McCoy but are in the LeShawn McCoy mold in Ivory and Goodson. Ivory not so much in catching the ball but... slashing quick fast was just in a crowded backfield. That's it. The Saints had four running backs and any time they gave him a chance, he looked good. Same with Goodson, any time Goodson got a chance, he looked good. And Powell looked serviceable at the end of last year to the point where we have a three headed...
42:00 Jake: running back now that running back by committee where I feel comfortable with any of the three of them being on the field and I feel like it's gonna be a lot of Chris Ivory and a lot of Mike Goodson Yep, and not much blow up out not much, but maybe in short yardage situations But these guys again the one knocker wins. I think more Goodson than than Ivory You said I ever got hurt. I feel like Ivory's been hurt. You could see in the games played that he doesn't... He's never really played 16 games. Which could be a good thing. He's fresh. He's 25 years old. Six foot. Two hundred and... 22 pounds. I mean, you know, he's young so we just sent him to a three-year deal. Yeah, so we got I think There's I love his yards per carry. Yeah, you're a speaker. Great. I mean during the five range high fours low fives Not much of a receiver which is weird But again, you know, he's playing on the Saints and the Saints while he was there have had Darren sproles or Reggie Bush in the backfield, who were the guys that they threw the ball to. So, he was basically behind Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, or, you know, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, and that rookie or the second year play, Mark Ingram. So like he's sitting back there, like, you know, just hanging around. It could be one of these. You know, I don't want to go crazy and be like, he's Priest Holmes, right? Like Priest Holmes sat there in Baltimore behind Jamal Lewis and then went to Kansas City and blew up. I don't want to say he's like Priest Holmes, but he's got... You can see in the numbers that he... When he touches the ball, he... can seriously run the ball. I think we have a fourth round thing. If I think back, wasn't... No, I know this is a bad comparison, but T-Bo was a fourth round pick, right? Correct. Wasn't Carmarti a fourth round pick? He was conditional. He ended up being a second round pick. Oh, okay. Anyway, I love this pick. This is a guy who I watched last year. I had him on one of my fantasy teams. for like in a odd spot or picked him up off the draft or off the thing when sprawls got hurt. So I watched him for a couple games and when he was one of those, oh he touched the ball. Yeah, when he plays. He is a 50 yard run waiting to happen. Yep, and I like that. I like that just you have a guy who. We haven't had one of those. In a while. In a long time. A long while. Since young Curtis Martin. No, Ian Washington had that. He did have that. He had that ability. No, he had that touch and go. Touch and go. But this guy's a bigger, meatier guy and still has a touch and go. So great pick. We both agree. Then Oday Oboshi. Tackle. Tackle. Good. The first Muslim player. Awesome. In the league. We rock.
45:00 Jake: Yeah, I think both of us just said, listen, more meat on the line. We need another tackle. Bees around. You know, Austin Howard had that one year last year. You never know what he's going to be or do. May as well pick a tackle in the fifth round. Why not? A couple of bees. And then the sixth round we went for... I love this pick. Let me tell you why. Bye. We went for Bill, Billy, Billy Campbell, defensive tackle, but he's not gonna play defensive tackle. Let me tell you why I love this pick. They're gonna switch him. I know. That's why I love this pick. So that's another guy for the offensive line. Correct. We just went depth. This is why I love this pick. Okay. You know who was the sixth round pick as a defensive tackle about 12 or 13 years ago? No. Brandon Moore. Okay. Bill Parcells. . Pick Brandon Moore in the sixth round as a defensive tackle and said you're gonna be you're gonna be a guard son, you're gonna be a guard son, you're gonna be a guard and That's my only reason for saying I love this place because I just love the idea of like picking just this big dude and Saying you know what? I don't care that you play defensive tackle in college. You look like an offensive guard and I can I mean Brandon Moore is a pro bowler and a very consistent player. So if you think about like sixth round guards, Lawson was a sixth round guard. This guy's now a sixth round guard. Brandon Moore was a like, you know, these are the kinds of guys that intrigued me. Yeah. So it'll be interesting to watch his development. I think Vlad Dukas is a nightmare. He'll be gone. Yeah, pretty much. You know, next year. Too raw, never turned out. He was like one of these, but he was too high for a raw. Second round pick for, pick this guy in the sixth round. Right. So that's like a bad move on Trader Mike's behalf, right? It's like, ooh, we think this guy has potential. It's like, well, you probably could have picked him in the fifth round. Right. with all the potential, it'd still be there in the fifth round. of T. Bow. T-B-O. Not, uh... Or little bow peep. I don't know, I can do a lot of things with the bow. So I grew up this fullback with an A-. Because... He then benched, and there's a video of it on YouTube, of him benching 550, putting up 550 once. Really? 550. 550 what? Pounds. Oh, pounds.
48:01 Jake: This guy, no, 501 bench, but you should see the stacks of the what, how many plates is that? Like six on each side? Yeah, something like that. It's ridiculous. You should see the videos. And this guy, he is the strongest motherfucker. And maybe he's a workout warrior, maybe he's a gym rat, whatever. But there's other ones of him like doing a- Can you like play football? Yeah, he actually had like four touchdowns last year. Alright. Yeah, I love this pick. I decided as a C, like, alright, let's fill up the teams and whatever. No, this is a star- this is a Lex Hilliard, bye bye. This is a fullback. This guy starts. Yup. Yeah? Yup. And this guy is gonna be... trying to think, can he catch the ball? Because he's got to be able to catch the ball. Yes, he can. Because if he could catch the ball, he could play in his offense. So I love this pick. This is like the steal of the draft. I feel like this is the steal of the draft. I feel like this could be, well, seventh round, guy, 215. Yeah, I feel like this could be the guy that like, five years we look back and we're like we're all screaming. Oh, there he is, he's coming in, he's gonna go. Oh my God, we know we're gonna run. He's just gonna blow through live guys Justin: and we're gonna be like, oh my God, look, it's team. Jake: And we're all gonna be like seventh round, we're gonna be so happy with this guy. He's just such a monster. Again, strongest individual ever seen. That strength turns into football ability. Full back is not a position that a lot of teams employ anymore. The better rushing teams when you think about it do have fullbacks. The Ravens. Yep. Vante Leach. Houston uses a fullback. Don't know his name. The Seahawks use a fullback. Yep. So maybe that's a little bit of edzicks like, you know, watching the fullback who is more of a... threat out of the backfield to catch the ball than anything but you know and I know the Eagles use full backs You know with morning like There so maybe that was I want to be a fullback who can catch needs to be able to catch In this often I this guy again. I don't go watch Jim Whatever but when when they start tweeting around have you seen this guy in the gym and he seemed put up to 555 or 550. I mean it was unbelievable Again, maybe he's just a workout warrior. We it's a need Lex here is not the guy We had the guy for two years ago the Terminator. He's gone. So we need one of these guys. I love this What would create value learn in the rap? So overall grade So you went, you gave him a C. I gave him an A- Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Yeah. Not for the overall grade. No, no, no, for him, for Tommy. Oh, yeah. Well, I didn't know anything about him. All right, well, that's your fault. I gave him an A-. And for a final overall, what was your final overall grade? B+. B+. Thought we did a great job in the drag race. Great job. OK. You did a really good job. I came around on it. I was not happy with the second round.
51:01 Jake: And then after that, I kind of came around on it after they picked all these beefy guys and mixed a weapon in there with Chris Ivory who can sip it and play immediately as opposed to... I'll wait and see approach you know what you have so he's a known commodity So here's but some here's some stuff so you gave it a B plus I give it a B minus and here's why Huge glaring holes left undone which I thought that for all the beef we got we could have swapped out some of the beef For some skill position. So here we go tight end Yep, huge fucking glaring hole. Let me ask you a question about tight end. Okay, so Don't do a morning wigs, you know offensive skiing thing. No, no, no. Tight end important. But, Cumberland can catch the ball, yeah? Yeah. Okay. What if Hayden Smith turns out to be pretty decent? Fine. Well, what if he does? That's great. I mean, they invested in him last year. And he was on the roster. Yeah. He made the team. He might make your Jekk and whatever, I mean not, it's hard to say wrong, but of that ilk in this draft. I think Casey and Ifert and it's like I feel like we should have gone and got one of those guys That would have been a you want to help the team. I wouldn't have minded Ifert At 13. Yeah. Yeah, I wouldn't mind it or Casey. I think it's Casey So so that's one piece that I thought and then wide receiver Huge glaring need you can say that Rex Ryan actually talked about on the on the call. He talked about Clyde Gates Really? Yeah, and how he's so fast and I was like you are you trying to fucking sell me a shit sandwich and tell me This is something I should eat and they have three receivers. That's it. Yeah, that's all they need a fucking receiver Five Gates is a four and maybe Brelin Edwards comes back And what this whole draft shows me is that there was only one receiver in the entire thing that they wanted There was first round other first round wide receiver Peterson quarter L something Yeah, Quatero Peterson, I think. I just remember his first name, because it's Quatero. Okay. I didn't forget that. I just, I feel like there's another one just left. But again, those... And then another one, let me give you another one. Fucking safety. So okay. Yeah, they could have drafted a safety with one of those... This is supposed to be this huge... One of those beef picks. This is supposed to be this huge, this was a year that, again, according to experts, I'm not an expert in the draft. The safety position was deep. But did we look at their undrafted free agent signings? They, yes I did. They did. They picked up, we'll pick that up next week. We'll get into those. But there are wide receivers and safeties and... There are safeties in there then you're always fine. Yeah, fine. But out of the draft last year, the last four guys we got didn't even start,
54:02 Jake: didn't even get to the team. Different. Different completely different mentality. I'm just saying the undrafted free agents to hit it hit it big or like the story of the lifetime The winged kerbats they don't happen that often I'm not saying it couldn't happen I just I would have liked to see a Tony O gates was drafted if they walked out of the I know I know and It was uh, you know Foster, you can do this all day. He was drafted. No, Foster wasn't, he was undrafted for your match. I believe he was drafted. I think you're wrong. Am I wrong? Yeah, pretty much. You can look it up. I'm good, huh? Anyway, I just thought those were the knees. If they had hit at least two of those three. Wide receivers is the one that I would have been happy to have a really great safety and then a tight end. I thought the tight end was there was some really top quality tight ends. Again, my perspective, those are the ones. That's why you got a B plus, a B minus. You get a B plus. Aaron Foster. Undrafted. Excellent news. I love being right. All right, so Anything else to say about the draft? You're happy. You went from very very upset to like literally well not talking you caught me right after round two Which was I was which you ended up giving which you ended up giving a b-plus I've come around on the whole situation Again, I took it as a You took it as them throwing Sanchez out the door. Sanchez out the door and I still like him and I feel like, you know, the kid's gonna have a hard time playing at home. So let's just... He's gonna throw one pick and the whole crowd's gonna go fucking ape shit. Yep, that's what's gonna happen. And that's a tough situation. And you know what they're gonna be channing? Gino. Gino. No, Smith. Oh yeah, Gino. I know, they're gonna do Gino. I was kidding. Um, yeah? Yeah, it's like channing for Browning Nagel. But they could have been, they would have been chanting for, doesn't matter who they drafted, blow me hard, blow me, they would. Everyone out there is like, yeah, Brown and Nagel. I remember that. We're chanting for like Glenn Foley. Yeah, can't wait for Glenn Foley to start. Awesome. I personally, so give me your starting quarterback for the, right now, make a prediction. Oh, it's Sanchez. Sanchez then. Like if Sanchez gets benched. No, we have five quarterbacks now. Oh rank them. Yeah rank them Right now yes now this moment with no other information. All right No, I'm gonna be on the roster Oh Sanchez Garard and Smith You think they'll keep Garard? Yeah, just cuz the experience. Yes, would he would garage stay to be a three He'll be the two. He'll be the two. Yeah So then if he's the two, then you really can't throw in Smith whenever you want him. Yes you can. Okay. They don't have that rule anymore. Oh really? They got rid of it? That rule hasn't existed in a couple years. You don't really have to rank them. I still, well then, but for garage sake, he came to the jazz and this is...
57:04 Jake: You know, he came to the Jets with sort of the promise of you get a chance. Great. You still do. You can go play lights out. I think they should cut them. I think they should cut. They should not cut them. Cut Garard. No. McElroy's not worth it. And either of Sims. They're not. At least you know with Garard, you may have a chance of winning the game. McElroy, you really don't. He is a legitimate 6th round quarterback. He gets sacked 11 times. And that is on him. You've never seen Sanchez get sacked 11 times. I've seen him get sacked like 5 times. 11 is twice that. I've seen him throw 5 picks and get sacked 5 times. That's 10. McElroy is not an NFL quarterback. He brought a little adrenaline to one game. So you're still the Sanchez apologist. Sanchez, Garard, Smith is my order at the moment. But with that said, if Sanchez were to get hurt or pulled, they would likely go to Smith. Smith is third in name only, but he's really number two. And I think as a Jed fan, it's a nice position to be in to think, oh, we got this guy in the second round. We don't have to dump all... Like, EJ Manuel's starting. Like, you're starting, dude. You're starting now. I don't think he will. Starting. I don't think he will. Brand new hit coach, brand new coach. He's starting. I don't think he will. They brought in Kevin Cobb. I think they'll give him a chance. to start the first three, four games, five games, and then depending on the record. Kevin Cobb's a backup. He's a career backup. I think they'll give Cobb a shot, and they have Tavares Jackson in there too. I think they'll give them both a chance to beat him out. But they won't. They won't beat him out. Yeah, they won't beat him. I think those veterans have every chance, probably more of a chance than David Garard does to start on day one. Oh, those two probably over EJ Manuel, but EJ Manuel's starting. Like he's gonna be the start of it. Listen, it's like last year, I had this argument with the stupid fucking Dolphins fan. They picked Tannehill and I'm like, he's starting day one. They're like, no, he's the third, you're gonna let him sit for- No, they don't do that anymore. No one does that anymore. You pick a guy in the first round, you're fucking playing him. That's it. Look at the three guys in the playoffs all picked in the first round. Oh, they were like five or six starting quarterbacks last year. That's what they do now. You pick them, you start them. Second rounders, maybe. You got a Wilson in there. I think Wilson was a third, right? You got a Kaepernick in there. He may have let them sit for a little bit. That's why I like the second round. So I like it because it doesn't give that guarantee. Like you got all this invested in him. You made this big splash. You took him in the first round. It was a weird thing to say because he had been the 30 Well, those teams have quarterbacks. That's why they're in the low ranks, but Listen, I'm looking forward to we'll wrap this up, but I'm looking forward to Sanchez doing the best he can I think he has the ability Physically and if you were given coaching if we truly believe the problem call playing
1:00:03 Jake: injuries, injuries, whatever were the problems. Just this year. But statistically, last year was a complete notar failure. Last year was... . And it was not, but it was not only physical, it was also also physical. He looked mentally, and. And again, I'll point to that goddamn Tennessee game. There were throws that he threw to player that it looked like he didn't know what was was going on in the field. Okay, coaching, play calling, don't know, but he looked like he was just going down this path. I think he has the ability to get us to an AFC Championship, because I've seen him do it. Does he have the ability to win a Super Bowl? Don't know. Can you guess an AC championship? Maybe. But maybe you're the Ravens who fire your offensive quarter in or in the middle of the season. Maybe you're the 49ers who decide to start the second round quarterback because he gives you a better chance to win and he brings you all the way to the Super Bowl. Maybe. We'll see. Alright that wraps it up. JetKingdom.com Twitter.com slash justjetkingdom Twitter.com slash JetKingdom. We're on the Facebook. Go join us up there. We post all our stuff. We'll be back next week Probably next week. Maybe next week. We'll see. We haven't got a ton to talk about. We can talk about Un-drastic free agents. No? They're not sexy. Not sexy? No. I'll give you some time to actually look up these people and know who they are. They're not sexy like Rexie. Oh, that's cute. Or if there's any breaking news, we'll be back. Otherwise, we'll see you in a week or I or two. As always, Jake and Justin saying. Go- a' the the a, you
