06 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be- I can't wait! Jake: Jess podcast ever ever ever. My name is Jake and joining me for the hundred and ninety first time oh god it's a long time is Justin. Justin how you doing today? I'm gonna go on and record and saying I don't like that ever ever I don't like that thing that you do. Yeah, can you stop that? Nope. I hate it. So annoying. Eat a dick. All righty then. So let's talk about we have we've been away for a week or so. This is our sort of last pre-season episode. That's right. Because next week, which we'll talk about at the end, we're going to do our. Our. Our picks episode. Our annual. Annual picks episode, which I think literally will be our sixth time. We have a lot of picks to make, because we got to pick every jet skin, then we got to do the Jet Kingdom pick them. We got lots of picks to be made next week. Speaking of which, that's right, we have to talk about the Jet Kingdom pick them. If you are not already in the Jet Kingdom pick go to yahoo.com with us every year, So go to like, you know, the Yahoo... fantasy sports. There's a Pickham League. It says, what's the group ID? You put in 31137 and then you put in the pot... just repeat that. 31137. Thanks. 31137. And you put in the the past cast, and you can play with Well, there's a lot of people in the week, so, or in the thing. So that's a way of planning. Well, it's like 10 or so. Yeah, the last couple years we've had about 15 to 20. I think last year was like 30. So anyway, you can then pick against us. What's fun is that we actually talk about our picks every week. So then, you know, we talk about who's winning and who's not. You might get a shout out. You might get a shout out if you're doing well. Matty Jax has won. And the winner of the league, of the pick-em, sorry, the winner of the pick-em will automatically, we're gonna say this, yeah, will get into the the Jet Kingdom fantasy league next year. So it's a great reason. So if you don't know how, just tweet at me at Jet Kingdom and I'll send you the information. But it's Yahoo fantasy. Group ID 3 1 1 3 7 again. It's on Facebook. You can go there. It's on our Facebook page anyway So we'll then talk about that But since we've been away we've had two preseason games, I don't really I Guess we have to talk about all of them or the one that happened last week
01 Jake: Yeah, I have to talk about we week for what let's do week four real quick. Okay week four didn't matter Well, didn't matter. Matt Sims. Matt Sims, I, my personal opinion, says he should make the team and be the third-string quarterback and Greg McElroy could go fuck himself. I don't really like Greg McElroy. I hate Greg McElroy from his statements that he made after his first year. His rookie year where he was on IR the whole fucking year. He goes on the radio in badmouthes to jets and he's still on the roster, really? Goodbye. Goodbye, Greg McElroy. Go get sacked in your sleep somewhere. What's that, 11 sacks in a game? Yeah, in one game. Because that's what professional quarterbacks should look like. Let's just let Matt Sims be the third quarterback. And I mean really if you're down to your third quarterback who really cares. Well, you're basically right. You're done-ers. So that's why that would happen in the fourth game against the Eagles. All the people look good. Bell looked pretty good. It's really hard to tell though. Clio Bell is making this roster. It's really hard to tell because they're playing with crappy other players and they're playing against crappy players. So you go like, it's just hard to tell. Clio Bell is making this roster. After what he's done, he scored some touchdowns. Two touchdowns. And he scored in week three. He's going to make a roster. He'll be the fourth running back. Someone made the comment that he's the Jordan Lamont. of uh, Lamont Jordan. Lamont Jordan, sorry, the other way around. Lamont Jordan of uh, no, no. Lamont Jordan was actually like pretty decent. Lamont Jordan was like Sean Green, right? Like it was like, oh this guy's good, but he can't be in every, no, down guy. So that was yesterday, that was the game that happened last night. We were actually in on the other coast right now, so we watched it over using a preseason live NFL app. It was pretty good. Once it got hooked up to Ethan, it was even better. But then last week, while we were away, We'd read Gino's big audition. So, I mean, He like puked all over himself at the audition. Oh my God, that was brutal. So, let's talk about So the thing leading up to it was, Marc Sanchez had played in week two, Gino Smith was hurt. in preseason week two. Geno Smith was gonna start week three to show everybody what he could do. Mark Sanchez was going to maybe come in, maybe not, whatever, it was gonna be basically Geno's ability. I guess the third, in the third preseason game, which is usually the- That's the starter's game. Right, that's the starter's game. So like, oh, they're gonna put, little weird, they're gonna put him still as a competition, still open. Let's put in Geno Smith, let's see what he can do, and woof, I mean. in. I was watching and I was like, okay, okay, oh my goodness, oh my goodness. And then by the third big mistake, I was like, yeah, he just cost himself a job. Like he literally, single-handedly cost, I think just wanna give him the job. But he literally did so much so badly that he cost himself the ability to have that job. So he threw three picks, two of which were really bad, one of which was.
00 Jake: I'll see you next time. All right. Bye. a little bit of just hustle. And then he just pulled a bone-headed out the end, out the side of the end zone safety. Just, that's just dumb. And it wasn't like he started at like the half yard line. Well he did. No, no, no. He wasn't at the half. He was like at the two or three. At that point, who cares? Well... You're in the end zone. Yeah. When you drop back, you have to know where you are. But then he was... But he didn't go straight back and then step out. He started to scramble. Oh yeah. Yeah. He had to run away. Run away! Run away, Geno. So what's your thought of Geno Smith? Like... Well... Cause we just get into like... Let's get into the whole thing. You know where I stand on it. No, cause you've been flip-flopping. I've been flip-flopping. You don't... No one knows what you're saying. Here's what I wanted. I wanted to see in game three, Gino Smith play average. So if I saw him play, not turn the ball over, score a few times, I was ready to- That would be average? Yeah. That would be above average. I would be ready to hand the reins over and say, let's start anew, let's let the kid do it. But he, not only did he- like the stats say one thing like yeah he threw three picks in 12 attempts and yeah he did the boneheaded safety but when the guys coming off the field you know during preseason they're like interviewing guys on the sidelines and all that so i think we had the giants Feed like it was like, you know, we were watching. Yes giant giant home game home game. All right, so They were interviewing Giants and they were interviewing Prince Mukumara who had the first interception Which was the one that was like thrown behind Spadola and he just made a play on the ball And they were like, you know, great interception. What are you seeing out there? And he's like, yeah, the coaches were telling us that Geno's just staring down every single receiver. So I knew he was throwing him the ball. So I was able to play it like a lot differently than I would have normally been able to play it and it was an easy interception. So when I hear a player say that and they didn't, players aren't like, yeah, this guy sucks. Like they don't do that very often. It's like the brotherhood. It's like, oh, he's not ready because he's just staring guys down. And it's not like they went like down the field a whole lot. You know, no. That just tells me that he's just not ready to play yet. So. Then, at that point, it was obvious. It was like, Sanchez is gonna start week one. Because at least he's a veteran. He's not, he doesn't stare down receivers. He just makes bone hitting fucking ropes. So, then Rex just decided, and this is such a bullshit thing, because I was fine with it when he went in the game. Like, whatever, he's throwing him in the game. He needs a little work. In week two he played behind the second and third string offensive line. He played the whole third quarter.
00 Jake: The starters weren't in anymore. No one questioned Rex. Hey Rex, why did you keep Sanchez in through three quarters in game two? Like no one said that to him. It wasn't even a question. It's like why is he standing there behind the backup offensive line? Well, no one asked him because the kid didn't get hurt. But wait, but the whole indifference is, and I just want to say for the record, I think it's totally blown out of proportion. The putting him in. There's the after stuff, which I still have an issue which we'll talk about in a second. But at that point, the difference is that one is you're evaluating... you have a race for the top or for the bottom in the quarterback. You have a race for the bottom and you want to see what Sanchez has. So you're leaving him in the game to see what he has. What have you got? What do you got for me? At the point where he put Sanchez in, and this is what everybody else is saying, and there's validity to this, when he puts him in in the fourth quarter, Right? When you now know, you now know this is your starter for the season. There was no question. Everybody on the planet looked at Geno Smith and said, he's not starting. So now this guy's value has gone from being, and this is what people are saying, and again, I kind of agree with this, you're saying, um, he now went from, oh, it's a competition to, he's Aaron Rodgers. Not that he's Aaron Rodgers in talent, but he's your starter for week one. No reason to put him in because something bad could happen. Now, of course, hindsight is 20-20, and I think that's the whole point of this. It just, it's not the same as week three because week three you're still evaluating him. The moment that he put him in, he already knew he was the starter. He was the starter. There was no reason to put him in. But maybe he didn't. Maybe he didn't think that. Maybe he said, oh shit, look he fumbled on the, on that snap. God damn it, same old Sanchez. Let me give him one more. And if he throws a pick, it's like, well now there's no difference. So maybe I will go with G. Like, the hindsight is complete 2020. Everyone jumping on him like he's the head coach. He gets to make decisions. He gets to say, I want to see this guy play in this situation a little bit more before I make up my mind. And it was a fluke thing. Sanchez is a tough guy. He doesn't miss games to injury. He's missed one game to injury in his whole career. He doesn't get hurt. And if I was looking at it and, you know, I know they're being very mum, they're trying... trying this new tact of this new tact of not telling anybody anything five years later. So I feel like if this was the regular season this week like Sunday two days from now and he'd be good to go. He'd be playing. Right. Like they just don't want to for some reason they will not come out and say who's the starting quarterback. Don't know why. It's not like they're very different. You saw Gino. He's not Russell Wilson.
00 Jake: He's not Colin Kaepernick. He's not, you know, running around. He's a pocket quarterback. They're the same style of player. Right. So there's no difference. And he turned the ball over, you know, twice. Three times. Um, here's the thing. So four times. Here's what I think happened with Rex. I'm now reading Rex's mind. I'm Rex Ryan's brain. Yeah. I think, because I think Rex is, again, proof or whatever. He's a Sanchez guy. He wants Sanchez. He's kind of like you. He wants Sanchez to succeed. I don't think he wanted to pick Geno Smith. I think that was just put on him. I think he's agreed to some things because he's kind of on the hot seat. Whatever. So I think he put in Geno Smith. They pick him and but he wants Sanchez to win. This is the guy he's been with four years He's had great success with he said poor but I think he wants him to win So if I'm if I'm the total Sanchez supporter in that point I watched you know Smith, you know, fuck a duck and then you know what I want I want to put in chance at Sanchez have him go out Score a touchdown and show the team and show everybody who's watching This is why I'm going to make him my starter. So I feel like that's what he was thinking when he put him in. He's thinking, oh, here's a great opportunity. This guy just came off, just shot, took a shit on the field. I'm now going to put in this guy and he's going to look good. And in comparison, in that one game, you're going to see why I'm making my decision to start Marc Sanchez. It backfired because Mark Sanchez fumbled, got sacked, and then got hurt. So it totally backfired in terms of what he was trying to do. But I think that was his, I think that was the thought behind it. Was not a, I need to evaluate Mark Sanchez. Come on, we don't have to evaluate the guy anymore. It was, I'm going to show you guys, I'm going to show everybody, I'm going to show the fan, and I'm going to show the team, this is why your starter week one is going to be Mark Sanchez. Watch this guy play a little bit. and it backfired. And if he had gone down and scored a touchdown, the whole media would be like, great, Sanchez went and the team would be behind him and he gets the best chance to win. Right? It would have worked. It would have been perfect. The play he got hurt on was actually a good play. Except for he got hurt. The offensive line blew. He had to run out, roll out, throw down the field, 20 some odd yards down the field to a wide open receiver. Just happened, so happened that a big 300 pound dude smashed into him and another guy landed on him, right? Again, I feel like he probably could have played this week if necessary. So you think this is a, so let's now talk about the starter because now this is where we are. Here's what we think's happening. I think Matt Sims is number three. I hope so. Because honestly, if you literally said, have the most amount of team, what you've seen play on the Jets, and I'm not talking about in college, but you've seen Matt Sims play and Geno Smith play, I have more confidence right now in Matt Sims than I do in Geno Smith. From what I've just seen, now Matt Sims is all over the place and he's running around and he's- What do you think is for Jack, Greg McElroy? Oh yeah, he's- He hasn't even played in the preseason. He's forgettable, he should be gone. So right now, if I'm setting the depth chart, I'm going Sanchez if healthy. Jim Sims, Geno Smith.
00 Jake: Geno Smith has showed me nothing. That game that Matt Sims just played was more on tape and more interesting and better plays than anything I saw of Geno Smith and the two games he's played. Agreed? Really? It was a full game. He had moments of brilliance and moments of stupidity. He played against nobody though. Alright. Bye. Well, so did still a genius with in the first do this first game you play that's right But then he played against you know real players if you do like shit Yeah, but if you threw Matt Simpson there against real players, I'm pretty sure he'd look about the same. All right, so here we are What do you think's happening? Cuz it's really no one really fucking I I'm gonna stick to my original guns and say Sanchez starts until The fire gets too hot and then Geno comes in at some point, but Hopefully the fire won't get that hot like look if they're two and three it shouldn't be panic time. You know if they're Four and four it shouldn't be panic time if they're one in four one in five And it's clearly Sanchez's fault. I think I've said this these exact words on this podcast like If it's clearly him, he's butt fumbling. He's making bad mistakes. He's throwing interceptions. He's throwing interceptions deep in our own territory Then you know, it's it's you gotta make the change with that said Going back to game three and looking at the positives Our defense looked really good. We gave up one big running play on the first play. They gave up the edge. That was a mistake by Antonio Allen not being in the right place at the right time. Young safety. He'll learn. But other than that, they did nothing. I mean, we turned the ball over five times and the Giants could not capitalize on it. And some of them were in our own territory and they couldn't move. That guy Harrison is a beast in the middle. And, um, Richardson. Well, Richardson was playing well. Harrison, who was subbing in for Alice. Um, Muhammad Wilkerson, we know is a beast. Like they're, they're looking, they're getting there. I mean, we, we usually do play pretty well against the Giants in that third game. We, we make, we, for some reason, we make Eli look bad all the time. I mean. but you know it's also that kind of quarterback that in pre-season cold yeah it doesn't really matter matter in the preseason for him you know he's he's hot when it matters when it's in when it's insuitable yeah I agree I'm just I think my whole problem with this is I come down to like I don't want that to happen, but then there's like the reality and I'm just feel like, and again, I'm more of a fan perspective, I'm thinking like what really going to happen that people are going to be excited about? Am I even excited about to see Sanchez out there, in a little ding-dong to try to lead this team? Like is even that kind of interesting to me as a Jets fan?
01 Jake: Yeah, I guess if he wins and like and we go, that this could be this miracle season and he's the rookie, you know, that movie where guy breaks his arm There's... There's just no weapons. San Antonio Holmes, there's no word on him yet. He's not on the pub, so he'll be around, but they're not saying he's starting. There's just not a lot. So, then it's like, well, is it just, do you just wanna see Gino Smith just for the fuck of it? Just so you can get the guys the rest. No, because you and I have, and we'll talk about it next week, we have very different opinions on what this outlook of this season's going to look like. Okay. No, I hear you. The optimist in me is like, listen, we can do it. It could be the season that no one knew, and it's unbelievable, and all the shit will be wiped away. We were in soccer in 09. We were 4 and 12. Rex took a... oh, sorry, 4 and 12, and then like 9 and 7 or something. And then Rex took that over, and it was like, oh, this is this disappointing team. Rookie quarterback. It's the same quarterback. So... Yeah, you know all right The one I think is Rex's sort of mental breakdowns like I could give a shit. I know you care You do your thing I'm just gonna sit here. I don't really care it to me. It's whatever it's just it's the New York media Who's just? fucking insane and stupid. There you go. You just said it. That's all you really need to say. But then don't feed the monkeys. Like don't feed them. Don't walk into the zoo with a basket full of fucking, um, you know, bananas and start throwing them around. Just talk to the guys. Just go up there and be like... This is what's happening. And they kept questioning him. He does this whole sideways thing because he just becomes the laughingstock. And the point is, if you actually want him, and I kind of want him to keep his job, he's not going to be able to keep it if he keeps making these fucking bonehead stupid PR things, you know, that everybody keeps just they just keep adding up onto his rap sheets like he's a predictor of the Super Bowl. He does this. He's, you know. He does it sideways like, oh, come on, dude. Just get up there, talk straight. I get it. It's his personality. Sometimes you got to be a little bit more, you know, I feel like 50 or you should know not to pull a style. I'm going to talk to you sideways. Really? Because then you become that guy. You become the whole who they thought they were. Did you hear? Did you hear? the entirety of the press conference? No, I saw the seven minute conference. But did you hear all the questions that led up to that? Did they say you're a big fat fuck? No, but did they ask the same question six different times and did he answer it already six different times? I do that all the time.
00 Jake: Okay, so here's the fat up with it. the That's but that's your perception. No I You can't do whatever you want. All I care about is wins and losses. Speaking of wins and losses, let's let in the last person to the Jet King of Fantasy League. A winner! A winner? All right. Do you have his entry? I have his email up. Yeah. Well, let's let him in. All right. I think you've already let him in, but we'll let him in officially on the podcast. Well, we're doing this to be yes. By the way, if you didn't get in, if this isn't you, you might be called as an alternate. Yeah, be ready. I mean, everybody has said they're in, but if there's something happened, so just, if you're one of the people sent in that you don't hear your name, you're not in, you haven't gotten an invite, just be ready and, because I might be shooting off an email at, you know, whatever on Sunday. So when is the draft? It's 4pm on Sunday. 4pm Eastern Time. Eastern Standard Time. That's right. If you're in the league, it says in the league, and you should know exactly where it is. So. The reason I say that is because the person we're letting in is from London, England. So 4 p.m. to us is one thing. 4 p.m. to him is... Well, I guess it's 9 p.m. I think. That's fine. Uh, so Gareth... Gareth Dobson... Welcome to the League. Dobby. Dobby Yeah, he thought he was out of the running because We let in I can't remember his name at this point, but the guy from Scotland wrote that awesome email Yeah, so we actually have two overseas and this was part of the appeal a few people from the UK in our in our fantasy league Which is kind of neat next year everybody all UK. No, you can't be from the same country So let's see, I have his email open here.
01 Jake: He sent us this awesome picture. I think the picture is awesome. He's wearing a Revas jersey, but you know, that was given to him by his brother's last Christmas. He said they wish they would have known better, but they're Jets fans too, so it's kind of unforgivable. I don't really see that. You know, at the time I was still wearing my. Rebus jersey to games in December. What are you gonna wear this year? Yeah, I might just decide like I'm just wearing clack. Oh, that's how much the believe it's an ch Got to get my Smith ready though. He's been listening to the podcast for a couple years. He actually says that he lives in a country where betting is legal. So he's pretty good a. and Well, yes of course. Join the pick. We'll be happy to have you there. See how good you really are at NFL betting. Yup. Um. Let's see Who's he picking between us he doesn't even know who we are. Yeah, he's picking the broad so I'll take that But he keeps forgetting which one that is So I think he was joking because he said I mean whichever one of you is reading this so he's kind of all right playing around Why should he be in the teaspoons. He was kind of a funny thing. I'm the second overseas guy. I could be the cool record guy. He's record guy. Or record collector. I like record collectors. So he got in because he picked you and then he picked me. He picked me at an awesome picture. He's overseas. He's been listening for a couple years. That's always positive. So that's the big reason why he got in. And I really just love this picture, to be honest. So next year I'm thinking that one of the things we're going to do is we're going to put out trivia questions about our podcasts. I like how you make up rules and, So then then, it's gonna prove how long you've known the podcast because we're gonna say like what episode did we do this or When did we do this or what was our bomb blast? It's gonna be like little stuff you have to figure out so it's gonna be like an Easter egg hunt. Alright well welcome to the league Gareth. Jet Kingdom Fantasy League this year as you know it is you have to play you have to roster a jet. Draft is on Sunday and you may not play an ex you not play anybody the Jets are playing that week
13 Jake: I think so. Really? Yeah. Wow. All right. So anybody who's on the waivers, sorry, didn't make it. Next year is always one. Or if things happen, someone gets hurt, injured, he might get called in. Next week is our basically our second biggest podcast of the year. Our biggest one is really the draft. It's not about the draft. But this is pretty much my favorite. Yeah, I think this is my favorite one. We have to set a huge amount of time aside, because here's what we do every year. So if you're just a brand new listener... Because I got just plenty of time. I just got tons of time to set aside before Thursday. Yeah. Yeah. Actually, it doesn't have to be before Thursday. Yes, it does. No, it doesn't, because we don't play on Thursday. Yeah, but someone does. I know. We have to make our picks. Oh. Yeah, but even that doesn't matter. Yeah, it does. All right, fine. Before Thursday. The season kicks off Thursday. We have to do it before Thursday. No, because I think we've done before where it doesn't matter because we'll just say we had that one pick, but then we'll pick the rest of the games. We're really picking the season. All right, so here's what we're doing next week. First of all, we're starting up the pick-up, so we'll be talking about our picks. We'll be picking every game, every week, from now on, with spread in the pick-up. We will also do our season outlook, whereas we pick every Jets game for the season and say what we think is going to happen. I think we just do win-loss, we don't do scores. So we say, do we think we're going to win? No, score would be ludicrous. Ludicrous. Then we're gonna pick, we're gonna say who we think the Super Bowl is winner or Super Bowl pairing is gonna be and the winner and see how close we get with that. Jets win. And then the, then we're gonna go also do our AFC East throne picks where we pick every AFC East game. for the week and the scores. So this week is going to be a crazy pic week. It's going to be a long podcast for this upcoming week. So prepare. Hopefully we'll know a starter by then. We may. We should probably do this like Thursday afternoon, but then it's it's not going to come out. I don't think we're gonna know. They made it to wait till fucking Sunday. Oh, we're going to the game. Oh yeah, and we're going to the game. And we're going to the game. So we gotta get tailgate stuff ready. Oh fuck, we got a lot to do. So many activities. So many things to do. All right, well until then, we will be back next week. Follow us on Twitter and all the usual places. Follow us on Face Face. Face Face. Go to iTunes, subscribe to the podcast, or anywhere other apps, millions of apps. We'll be back next week with our big pick week podcast. Until then, remember to join the pick-em. I'll tweet that out a couple times during the week. See you all you clowns for the Jet Kingdom week.
02 Jake: See you on Sunday at 4 p.m. Again, that should be in your league, you should know that. Um... And other than that, until next week, as always, go Jax. you
