09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away! Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast, the longest running New York Jets podcast ever. I'm Jake and joining me for the 190th time. Oh my goodness is Justin. Justin, how are you doing today? Justin: Don't sound so excited. Jake: It feels like we've been podcasting for like 17,000 hours. We really have. We really have. Justin: We don't know we run a podcast network. That's it. It's Jake: 15,000 podcasts a year Well, we are doing one now for the dead Kingdom. So let's get good Let's do it. All right, so this week this week we're talking preseason game versus lions. Yep Talk about the battle between the sandch Checking of fantasy league at the end then there'll only be one more spot left The last golden ticket when you get the golden So thefts let's start off with talking about last week's last week before we started there was the game Right to be happening. We're game which I watched you did not I did No, he did. I watched the whole game. Yeah, somewhere else. He like watched it and T-voted. Justin: I watched it. So what? It's the preseason. I watched it. No, you're no. I get super credit. Who the hell T-vos a preseason game? I T-voted, then went back and paid for like preseason live and re-watched it like six times. Listen, I'll pull my dick out. You pull your dick out and we'll see who's got but you get southern there
20 Jake: This is the season if you're a fan of defense, you're gonna want to watch the season If you're a fan of offense, you're gonna want to close your eyes. Yeah, I believe this team Justin: Defense has a good shot to be pretty darn good I think it is they got some big boys up front and they seem to be playing pretty darn well I was not impressed with Damaria Davis I don't think he played that well. I thought he got beat a couple of times on plays I didn't think he should necessarily get beaten on Kyle Wilson didn't look that good to me. Really? Yeah, I have this thing. I feel like I look good Well, I'd like him to look decent. I know but why does he look good? I feel like they should try and they haven't and I don't understand why try why doesn't he play play? He can tackle, he's a good tackler. He can play free safety. Why does he have to be a corner? Usually when corners don't work out, he's really working out. He's a good number 3. But that's like, hey, he's a first round draft pick. He should be 3. We drafted another first rounder. Jake: So number 1, and we just picked a rounder and we have a first rounder. Justin: I feel like he should be a safety. I'm feeling a lot playing free safety, but that's just my feeling on the whole good. Yeah, you know, Crowden's great, but he's covering Calvin Johnson. So who's going to look great? Right. Unless your name's Reavis. Sorry. Jake: Milliner didn't look bad. Justin: It didn't look great. Got beat. He got beat, but he had a good play. He had a nice breakup in the end. Yeah, that was good. The defense looked good. The offense had its ups and downs. Clearly, the play to start the game, Sanchez picked six. It's like, of course that had to happen. Like it kind of like had to happen. Right? Jake: Well, so let's just go back. They named the starter as Sanchez. We made the prediction that Sanchez would do this week and next week or this week would be Geno. They'd flip and flop it. They were giving him, they all said, he's earned that position. Right. Okay. And, you know, it was a couple plays, it wasn't the first play. It was literally a couple plays, and he just comes out and does this screen pass to the middle of nowhere, and a rookie picks him off and runs six. Take six. And it was... Alignment on a screenplay. It was literally the way, I think I was texting, I just watched the play where I watched a guy who was his job. Like. and- the that's the play. I and And I think that's, you know, everybody's been saying, oh, but he looked good and he,
00 Jake: you know, because the old Sanchez or whole sales, he would have picked three more. Two picks and a butt fumble. I think my problem not is with the pick is that Then saw errant shit throws that there was one that easily could have been picked and for six Justin: He was the guy was running on one other there was one other throw which was the another screen I think the Jets think about it. You- They didn't run screen, you know, they haven't been that offense. They don't really run screens. They're not a very good team or haven't been. And Marnie, bored of installing screens to running backs to tight, like it's it's it's been in the first game. Like there weren't any screens that really work. I want was the pack. One was a near pick to Winslow and another had a holding penalty on it. a holding penalty on it. So it was like three screens, three negative plays. So expressly, that means they're working on the stuff, they're not ready to really run it. But the rest of the stuff that they ran, it just didn't look very f- They went right down the field 80 yards five for five touchdown pass looked looked off the safety threw back the other way It looked good. Good a look like a real NFL And the sideline pass to Winslow was good. Yeah good pass put it right where he needs the guy kept going on it I just Jake: I feel like that's the thing, that other one that I know, it's like, oh, he had a good, the windmill made the good tackle and popped the ball out. But that was this close to just being another pick six and that would have been it. And this is, you know, again, if it weren't preseason and that, I don't know if it was a corner or whatever, the linebacker, whoever it was. If he had just been in regular season form, he'd be in the end zone celebrating, we'd be down. Justin: Well, there's another side to that coin, which is, well, maybe if the offense was in regular season form, that's not a terrible throw, or the timing of the screen is not as bad as it was. Jake: Can you honestly say at this point that you trust him? trust this guy? Yeah, why not? Because he goes out and does the stupid shit that you just watched. Justin: But I watched him 13 from buck 25 with a touchdown with a high quarterback rating of 100. So what am I supposed to say? What am I supposed to say? I can't sit here and dwell on one awful Jake: play when everything else went well. Because it's the one thing that we can't have him do this. Justin: But if he did that as the last play. If the last game, it could be the last play. If the last play that he played in the game was pick six, I'd be like, ah, fuck. But we know he's done this year over year. And by the way, in years that we've done very well, he's started off games or started off seasons shaky.
02 Justin: Like, you know, you're nervous with that. Jake: I don't want your five fucking shakey. Yeah, well guess what? Roger's isn't shaky. Justin: Aaron Rodgers didn't get thrown into the fire. Aaron Rodgers got to sit there for three years. Maybe that's what Gino needs to do. Maybe Gino needs a little, little, because he didn't look very good. Jake: No, let's talk about Gino Smith in a second. I'm not saying that this isn't, to me, this isn't Gino Smith versus Sanchez. This is Sanchez versus his own mind. Justin: So I don R don't see how you come out of that game if you're looking at it as Sanchez versus his own mind and say that was positive. Jake: I don't know who won. Did his mind win? Justin: Wasn't that a positive game for him? No. You see that as a negative game for him? Jake: I think to me it's a flat game because this team will never win games this season if the quarterback can't control the ball. This is not a high flying offense. This isn't Drew Brees who can throw in the last five years. He's throwing the most interceptions more than Sanchez. Like Sanchez is, I think when you go get four years, he's thrown the most. If you go one more year, it's Drew Brees, but the difference is Drew Brees scores so many fucking touchdowns. That doesn't matter who's got sacked the most in the last five years. It's something like Aaron Rodgers, but the difference is he makes incredible plays and wins games and throws three, four touchdowns. Sanchez isn't that guy, so we can't, if you're not gonna be the guy who's gonna throw the four touchdowns, you can't be the guy who throws the two picks. And he can't, and I don't think he's the guy who does the four touchdowns, so I need him to be the guy who doesn't throw the picks. And when you start games like that, throwing picks, and again, it's the, it's exactly the thing we don't want. It's in the end zone, on the 20, like throwing a pick that then turns, it's like not even a chance to come back from it. Again, preseason is great. It's all that. It just brings me back to like, oh no, this is exactly what we don't want. I want him to be the guy who can go down the field and score. That's great. But he can't start that way. He can't start by dragging the team down by seven points. So no, is it a good game? No. Is it a terrible game? No, because he got back and he did something. But it's also only however many series it was. Justin: Sanchez's history is that game he would have thrown two more picks. just three an ounce after that. And he heard his ankle running which is a shame because I would've liked to see him play a little bit more. Six of seven you're like, oh maybe he's getting in a groove here. Nothing down the field, everything was safe. Everything obviously, if you're six of seven and you've gotten only one first down clearly
04 Justin: you're doing very safe things. you know, didn't really get to see enough. I really would have liked to have seen more and Unfortunately, we didn't and then you know We thought he was gonna start this Jacksonville game, but he hurt his ankle. He might not He got the first team reps in practice today as we record this on Wednesday Yeah, apparently he went like 21 with four intercepts. So that's just miserable. It was against the scout team. Oh, it wasn't like against the start. No, it was like nobody's. So that's just miserable. He's regressing from where he started where like, oh, he looks good for like four. I would always couch it like for a rookie Right looking good. And now it's like he looks like a rookie, right? It's like, oh, he's doing rookie crack I wish he he was playing better so that this competition was Because now it's like oh Sanchez look good again today. It's like, oh, he's looking good in practice and you You know looked okay in the game right right, you know His stat line was fine and they scored a touchdown with him, right? Jake: They didn't do anything with what at the very least if you want to do the if you want to get mr. Positive all sees all preseason last year Justin: We did you did not score a touchdown like the third team offense scored in the last game or something, right? So Jake: At the very, least he has a couple touch. We've scored 100% more touchdowns this year than we did last year. More than that. Justin: I think we scored two touchdowns, right? Oh, with McElroy. McElroy. Jake: Who's also injured. Who may not play on. Yeah, I don't want Sanchez to win by default. I don't want him to earn it. Justin: And I feel like by earning it. by doing that you earn like respect and you also have gotten better because of it because of the challenge and knowing that someone's like breathing down your neck makes you hopefully makes you play Jake: better so uh who stood out for you anybody else stood out plow did not stood out for me no the Justin: running game was awful they didn't really even try they barely ran the ball um john griffin got hurt It's too bad he had one run, it was a good run, he ran to the outside and then horse collar tackle asshole in preseason on the sideline. Horse collar tackle breaks his leg. Kinda asshole. There's a horse collar tackle in the preseason when he's on the sideline. Just push him out of bounds you jerk off. Like that's bullshit. So then we lose another running back. Who I don't know if he would have made the team or not who knows but right, you know He had one run for nine yards. He looked good The fact of the matter is we need chris ivory back He's back practicing this week back practicing this week. We and we need one of those other guys back I would like I would play him with one series. I just want to see I just want to see him run
01 Justin: I just want to see him get hit just get hit for real then We'll give it to Blaupau and Khalil Bell who we signed and you know Moises Medu or whomever else. They're looking at him. He might not make the team really guy played like 30 snaps Like veteran receivers like that don't play 30 snaps in game one of the preseason Winslow look good He did look good catches that he made the one like run after the catch was really nice It was a good throw he caught it on the run had a guy on his back Shed them ran down the sidelines you pretty good if you want any hope and then of course Jake: Cumberland got the touchdown. He looked good. He was wide the fuck open anything. That was great Good, I know but he was wide the fuck open as he should have been that was a very that was a Dustin Keller all the way Justin: Times Steven Hilton drop a ball That was good. That's good. He looked you know, he looked tall out there. He caught like a nice slant like that Passes he's gonna catch to me on the offensive end like Clyde Gates impressed me the most I'm not gonna say like Ben Obamanu because he's playing against like fourth string guys out there Jake: It's awesome McElroy who cares if you have good chemistry McElroy. Well first of all McElroy was great. He only got sacked three times Which is not his record. He's he's had a record of 11 times in a game for him. Three is pretty good. Justin: It's pretty good. Pretty good. You know, did you know, get sacked? No, no, no. So he wasn't sacked because he was a little elusive. This is why I want that, that that coaches film, the 22. Yeah. So that I can see because the announcers, I think it was Greg Buddle was announcing the game and with I Eagle and. And he was making mention of like, there were plays where Gino like, checked down too fast. That's why, you know, he was six completions for 47 yards, you know, that's not a very good like, percentage there, like yards per attempt isn't isn't great. And he said, oh, he checked down too fast. He had guys open down the field. He was getting antsy, like even the play where he ran out and got hurt. He said he didn't have to run like there was guys open. I can't see that on TV. They didn't show us the replays of it. Who knows? Who knows if guys were open, but I would like to see the, you know, the tape to know if he's making the right decisions even. And that's what the coaches are obviously going to look at. You know, the big hubbub about Rex Ryan not watching the offense. I mean, he's gonna watch it on tape and it's the first game of the preseason. Who gives a crap? He's doing what he's doing.
00 Justin: He's coaching. It's fine. Not watching is fine. Jake: Learning when someone asks you, did you see the play? You'd be like, I need to go back and rewatch it on the replay. It's just the wording. It's just, it's just, it's understanding that you don't feed them. This is what he should learn from Belichick. Go read Belichick's book. Don't feed the media. Don't feed Manish. Don't feed him. Well, that's what I'm saying. But don't you, Manish. But learn he's got to be old enough. Now this is your fucking fifth season. Like, dude, learn not to do stupid shit. Like, say you didn't watch a play. You're the head coach. Because whatever you say, they're going to take one way or the other way. Just don't say that shit. Just say, you know what? I got to go rewatch it. I'll get back to you after we watch the play. you know, it caught it out of the corner of my eye or whatever. Justin: I was doing some coaching of something else. I was a little, you know, all right, enough. You've spent enough time on it. It's over. You know who else I liked? Who else? I like Tommy Bohannon. Yeah, I want him to be the starting fullback. Deepo. I want him to be the starting fullback. Speaking of starting fullbacks, I'm going to take a little. Left turn here for a second. Okay, so I watched the second episode of hard knocks last night. I'm Tivo in them. Yeah, and once again, they You know John Connors on the Bengals Oh terminators on hard now. Oh, that's fun. And there were Jets Flashbacks they went and show Jet season where it like Rex is gushing over the town. I'll actually have to watch and and and he's It's kind of a shame we cut him he looks like a good player like I don't get it I think I thought he had some we had some Urgery that like weird injury he said it was like an unfortunate He had a weird injury the Jets needed like they were so injured that they just had to I don't know why they cut him though. Why couldn't they just put him on IR, but whatever whatever But he's he's got his own thing going on there in Cincinnati, but again, you know, all right get back to the game It's over. We lost who gives a fuck. Yes, someone said that this will you lost the game? Like are you serious? I don't even look at the score. I just want to know if guys played well and I got some guys That need to play well played pretty well So going into next week We've got some injuries to watch. You know, Joe McKnight has continued his weirdness. Can we just cut him? Head injury? No. No, you need the depth of running back and he's a very good if not excellent kick returner. He's just odd. Jake: He's just like doing like weird shit. Justin: It's odd. He's got maybe he has like a mental illness or something. I wouldn't put that. pass them. So he's got a head injury. Kenra Gelles out with a back. Josh Malga with a back. The punter, Robert Malone with a back. Neither of these, none of these guys practiced today, today being Wednesday. Kellen Winslow didn't practice. He was just, you know, oh, not his normal rest. His wife had a baby. So congratulations to.
01 Justin: And Clyde Gates, who suffered a head injury practice, but in the red jersey. So he may not we may not see Clyde Gates in game two because, you know, game two is like, what have you. It's game three where you want the guys who are going to make an impact actually play. Yeah. Jake: I feel like with this receiving core with a lot of unknowns, we need to see more. Yeah, we do. Justin: But if the guys got a head injury, you don't. Jake: Play him in no, I agree. It's just kind of like Jesus Christ. It'll be interesting to see who starts at quarterback Justin: I don't think it was ever announced or said Everyone just assumed Gino was gonna start game two at home Jake: What had to do with what happened again if Gino would come out in that game and thrown four picks in against Against the Lions and he probably would have not started. We all assumed that if If he doesn't do anything horrible, and if Sanchez doesn't do anything horrible or spectacular, Justin: which is pretty much what Sanchez did, neither one, except where he hurt himself and now Jake: during training camp he's not doing great and so I think it... Justin: But it was never said that Gino would start game two. No, we made that up. He just assumed it. I think everyone did though. Everyone assumed it. Everybody's as smart as we are. Yeah, Sanchez is gonna start game one and Gino will start game two like a real quarterback competition then Whoever looks the best in both the games and in practice will start the injury. I think it's going to be Sanchez. It might be. It might be. Jake: Which I think for you, I think for you, we have it. Well, whatever he's looking around, then don't practice. Right. But for you, it's your it's your wet dream. It's not my dream. Justin: I want to win the fucking thing fair and square without it. Jake: It's going to go up against a at home. up against a crap D. Right? What did Jacksonville do last week? Well, the Jaguars are not a good team. They're just not a good team. They're not going to be a good team. They're not a good team. Justin: Well, we don't know that. Jake: They weren't good last year, but that doesn't mean they're awful. I'm saying they're not a good team. Justin: Well, what did they do last week? Who did they play? Oh, they played Miami and they lost 27-3. Yeah, they sucked. Jake: I'm guessing. Justin: All right, they stink. So they're not a good team in preseason. Jake: They're us last year. So what I'm saying is, what you'd like to see is him come out and like, not throw any picks and then like score like two touchdowns. Just be like, look at that. And now he's like, you know, he's getting good. Like, like warming up, like looking hot, like high percentage. Good throws. Let's go. And then takes it. and then Geno Smith whether he's heard or not. And then he would take it and then goes right to the third game, plays great, great, you'd sit for the fourth, and here we are in the season in Marc Sanchez, the new starter. That's what you're hoping for. I know you have this whole thing about him winning or not winning or whatever, but whatever. So that's that as we repug in computers. That's why we're being quiet. Neither of us will be there either.
01 Jake: No, so I gave one set of my tickets to a friend at, or my wife's friend at work. And the other ones I put up for, you can actually donate them to charity, which is nice. United Way. Very nice of you. Yes. So my Eagles game. and Justin: very nice of you. So what are you looking for in game game two on the tele? Jake: I will be in a foreign land. I will be trying to stream it on my iPad or hopefully it's on TV because they usually get New York airwaves. Oh, where I am. Well, it'll be on TV. I will be T Boeing it as well. I'll be T Boeing it, but that's just, I'm going to have to watch it. Sunday but um I'm looking forward I'm looking forward to just I just I Justin: Mean I'd like to see more of the defense I want to see domination I want to see defense I don't see some pics because I mean look this is like garbage quarterback time Jake: These guys the we played last year didn't we play them last year and destroy them was it two years ago that we literally Justin: Killed them. I think the last two years If anyone has a worse quarterback situation than Lee then we do it to them. I mean they're picking between... Chad Henny is like looking like the guy who is like no one wants playing Gabbard. Right. He's in year three now and it's like give us Chad Henny. And it's like really? Chad Henny is that really what you want? Is that really what you really really want? Like it doesn't sound good to me so I want to see domination on defense. And yeah, a turnover score, something like that would be nice. And then I want to see consistency out of whomever is the quarterback. No turnovers would be nice, like consistent. And I'd also like to see us run the ball a little bit because we could not run the ball at all. Jake: And I don't know if that's talent or. I feel like it's a new... There's like 14 penalties or something? 11 I think. Justin: It's a new scheme completely. Like the running... Like you saw them, they ran that sprint option. Or the sprint draw, whatever the hell it is. Where the quarterback runs out to one side. and then just hands the ball off to the running back. That the Eagles have been running for the last couple of years, and it's a great play when Mike Vick and LaShawn McCoy are running it. And I don't think we know how to block it yet. And we also don't have LaShawn McCoy in the backfield. Jake: Or Michael Vick to run it out to him. Exactly. Like the fast guy to run to the other fast guy. Okay. Yeah, I mean I guess looking forward to that. Looking forward to just more football. Justin: I want to see less penalties on the offensive line. Those Willie Cologne had two penalties, Peterman had a bad one. Jake: I like his attitude though. I don't know. He looked like he was just pushing people. He's an angry dude. Justin: He's from the Steelers. He's from the Bronx. He's a nasty motherfucker. Love it. Get it. But no holding. No holding. Holding is for dummies. All right. Well, let's get in speaking of dummies. Let's let's add a dummy to our league. Wait. Well, do we want to talk about this late breaking?
01 Jake: Oh, yeah, I think it's come and gone. It's it's gone. I'm in gone. It's gone already. Yeah, got my hopes up And now it's gone. So there was a while we were doing this Tom Brady got hurt his knee, but now it's come back as negative The MRI was negative, it's considered day to day. Justin: Limping around like, you know, fine. Whatever. Fuck you, Tom Brady. Fuck you. Jake: We're not gonna win this league, but we're not gonna win by my wife, who we have a bet this year. She's a dolomite fan, as we know, because I've said it for 190 times. She... She's convinced that the dolphins are going to be the champions, the AFC East champions. Right. So I easily took her up on that bet to say, sure. Oh, it was like just some jelly beans. Oh. Really? Jelly beans between husband and wife. Jelly beans between husband and wife on that. And so... All right. Justin: All right. So let's pick this next person. Let's do it. Jake: want to say what we're doing here? Yeah, so every year we run, or the second year in a row, you have a fantasy league just for podcast listeners. Last year it was 10 team ESPN standard and you could, you had to play a jet on your team, active jet on your active roster. This year we're throwing a little curveball in that we are saying that you still have to do that, but you also must not play Anybody who's playing the Jets for that week. So for example, if you had Mike Wallace, when the Jets play the Dolphins, you can't play Mike Wallace. He used to be off your roster. So it makes it a little bit more interesting in the draft, whatever. The draft is September 1st at 4 p.m. Eastern time. So if you cannot make that... Let us know immediately. Be ready, bitches. Yeah, there's no auto-drafting. Yeah, you can't really auto-draft. So also, we're gonna pick the next two people. You have to send your base. Next two, I thought I was picking one. I'm saying we have two more people left. Justin: Oh, yeah, I'm picking one today. Jake: One today, but then... But then we only have one more. Right, but I'm saying keep going because there might be alternates. People might bail, so... keep sending because we might have an alternate. You might need to pick an alternate at the last minute and that'll be about your availability to make the draft. So send an email to podcast at JetGame.com. Tell us why you want to be in the league. Tell us what your team name would be, your best road experience, your Jets road experience, whether you'd pick the broadcaster or the podcaster. And send a picture of yourself in Jets gear. Ian Thomas day Ian Thomas day. I call you ITD. Why is Ian in?
05 Justin: Those photos pretty cool. It's got this awesome hair. Do I don't know if it's his hair or if it's a wig? Please let us know cuz it's kind of awesome puffs up there We're in a stanchage Jersey taking a picture of himself in a bathroom mirror And he said the caption of the photo was teams in the shitter So I'm gonna stand right there nice and it was taken right after the butt fumble. So he says oh Nice team name is the JET Escapade just pretty cool Best road experience. He's never been to a road. Game. He's a guy from Western Canada who as of January of this year lives in London England what the hell those people like in London Ireland and one of the main reasons we like the international flair So until he can catch a flight He's not gonna be able to to catch a road game But he's hoping that maybe the Jets will be part of the London Yeah, like once. He even said that, although I want what's best for the team right now and that, probably, isn Jake: So I'm a smart fan. No once I mean if they did like once every four years even I could do it and obviously said Justin: You know the best road game he can remember watching was what many people have chosen which is the Pats pretty much the best Road around which is really really really awesome. It was awesome Between us, he said his favorite is the podcaster based solely on the fact that you're sensible and that you have sensibly given up on Sanchez, though, you're not, quite as funny Jake: I am 10 times more funny than he is um, and even so that's just so you know, I haven't totally given up on him i've just I'm bracing my he's he's hanging by a thread. No, I'm bracing for impact. I'm literally I'm putting my hand I'm putting my he's he's really doesn't like him. Yeah. No, I like him I just bracing for him anyway bracing for butt fumble in Welcome to the league. Welcome to the league man. You'll get your league login soon. Everybody else Everybody else is joined except for nap from last week. So if you're still listening this, you should have gotten an email. Join in because I haven't seen you actually join in the league. We have one more spot. Remember, send us an email podcast at jenkingham.com with all the stuff we just talked about. We'll be back. Not next week. Next week we are both traveling. So we'll be back the following week, which will leave us. only five or six days before the draft.
