09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away from the dead! We need to be dead! We need to be dead! We need to be dead! Justin: Welcome to the Jack Kingdon Podcast. the longest running New York Jets podcast ever. We're back. It's been a while since the Jake and the Justin got on the airwaves here and that are not airwaves at all. Just recorded bits that are put into a file, downloaded and listened to you on your device. Been a while. It's been like over a month, hasn't it? I feel like we've been exactly a month. I feel like we're always like, yeah, we're back next. Our last podcast was May 1st. Okay, so that's two in May. Two in May. Two in May. No. May 1, May 31. That's not bad. That's right. Ain't nothing wrong with that. This is called the Cromartie Day. National camarti day. Well, no, I mean it's it's may chromarti. Oh It makes no sense to me. Oh His number. Oh, okay Very one. What are you talking about? That's how my boogering. That's how my brain works. I'm up. I think it's That's why I'm that's why I stutter Jake: Cuz you think in jet number always thinking of the jets. All right, buttering. So we're not sorry. We're back. We got We've got some stuff to talk about. Just been E2A. Yeah, I've been up to OTA's. Justin: OTA's have gone on. I didn't apologize about it. I'm just really gone. We've got a big agenda. Let's just dig into it. Do we really have a big agenda? Well, let's look at a lot of items in front of us to talk about. Not a lot of stuff there. A little light on the agenda. I mean, real big news is really that the OTA's started and have been going on. And they are. And really the only thing to come out of the OTA's that's even remotely interesting. thing. is the quarterback situation. I think there's something else that's interesting. Oh, really? Yeah. All right. Well, tell me, tell me what's interesting coming out of the OTAs. I think Rex's involvement on the defensive side of the ball is interesting. I feel like this is like, I have, it's interesting, but here's my problem. You're not going to be the head coach next year if you say again, because no other head coach in the world goes out and says, yeah, I'm just involved in one side. That or the two sides are fine. So exactly what he said last year was Sperano. He said, oh, he'll handle the offense. No, he did not. It's the exact opposite of what he said last year. Last year, he stepped away from the defense, said, I'm going to be involved in all assets. That's what a head coach does. Yeah. That's what head coaches do. That's fine. But you know what? When we were- You want to demote him just to defend the coordinator and get a new head coach? When we were extremely successful was when he was doing it this way. So I'm fine with it. Do what you do, man. I know, but it's just, he's not going to make it.
01 Justin: He's not going to make it because- You're such a Jets fan. So pathetic. Oh, I'm not. Yes, I am a true, true Jets fan. So pathetic. But- The way that you're thinking right now. If a guy's really good at something, do it. Why step away from it to go do something that your not as good at? Because if the other side of the ball socks for years and goes downhill, your job is- But what's he gonna do about it? Then don't be paid a head coach salary if you're not gonna do the other side. But if he does something really well, and if the way that he's- He is the peer principal. But if he does something really well and the way that he's done it has proven to work, then why not go back to that way? Great! Demote him and get a head coach. And he can be the defensive coordinator. And then you get a head coach who does head coaching. No. No, no, no. Let's get her to be a head coach. You know, I'm actually, I'm fine with just a cheerleader as a head coach, as long as that head coach has extremely confident offensive and defensive coordinator who's halfway decent and someone who stands next to them and tells them during the game call timeout and when to throw challenge flags. Alright, let's talk about the big news. Because otherwise, otherwise I'm not for it. The big news since we started since our last podcast is really David Garard. That's the big news. Well, I mean, it's there's two big news. There's two like news items. There's one is him. The other is good. That's not good. Big news at all. Well, it changes the landscape because a lot of the reporters and a lot of the fans were all saying David Garard is going to get this. He's going to win the job. I never really believed that. I don't think a guy who hasn't played football in two years is going to win the job. I thought he was a competent backup. I thought they went and reached for him too soon. They I thought there was other backup quarterbacks that could have gotten later, maybe more money, but that just would have been better and more competent and had played fucking football in the last two years. And then he turns out to have his knee. I don't know what gone. I mean, who knows what the actual truth is. Maybe by seeing Geno Smith came in, it's like, you know. It could have just been he looked at the roster and it's like there's no way I'm even having a chance because if Mark Sanchez starts to butt fumble over the field, they're not putting in me. They're putting in Geno Smith, right? You just drafted this guy. Oh, you'll know that that's the reality if he doesn't latch on anywhere else. Oh, he's not going anywhere. Well, then the knee thing is clearly the reason. I think that's the excuse. I don't think so. out. that why would the knee in the middle of no time? Oh, because it was right as the practices was ramping up right as they were beginning to start working out. But wouldn't you have been working out for like the last six months? You should have said what I'm saying is if he doesn't latch on anywhere else at all ever, that doesn't prove anything. Well, it. disproves the fact that the only reason why he left was because he looked at the situation and he left and the knee is a Bullshit excuse I think if he shows up somewhere else Then you can say the knees a bullshit excuse cuz look he can show up somewhere else But if he doesn't ever show up anywhere else that means he's too injured to play football
03 Justin: Okay, I don't think he's gonna I I think he could show up anywhere else. I think He won't because I think he was a reach when we picked him up for a million bucks or whatever it was I don't like real much. Anyway, I didn't like it getting him Maybe I did when it happened but I just when I saw later when I saw other quarterbacks who I thought had a better upside than him that were a little bit sort of I don't know, there was a list of them that we talked about in the podcast. I was like, these guys we could have had. Yes, we could have had them for four million to three million, but they were legitimate backups. He's not a legitimate backup. Guy hasn't played in two years. Well, Gino also totally changes the situation. That's what I was saying. And I'm saying, he goes in, his knee feels a little bummed, and he's like, and Gino Smith's here, he just realized his chances of getting on the field are zero. And Gino like. There was a really good article on Grantland Grantland.com the Bill Simmons website, which was it was yesterday or two days ago. It was called like The something for it's like it wasn't a fantastic for it wasn't Anything you know like I'm gonna find it now because it was really good and it was it was about The for the gang of four revolution. That was the article written by Bill Barnwell, who's a really good NFL writer. And he wrote about this like middle class of quarterback that is getting squeezed by these four guys because of the new CBA luck. RG three, Russ Wilson. and Colin Kaepernick. Those four guys who put on a show last year, got their teams to the playoffs, cost no money. Like none. And they are legit all four of them. Pretty much after one year of playing, you could pretty much say all four. can lead you to the playoffs and can get you to the Super Bowl and get you close to the Super Bowl and not win. No rookie quarterback has ever won a Super Bowl. Fine. Well, Colin Kaepernick wasn't even a rookie anyway, second year player, but still second round pick. The idea is like, you know, the the cover boy for this was like Phil Rivers. It's like, well, Phil Rivers is 31 and he makes like 13 million bucks or something. Right. Crazy and then to talk about he actually used mark Sanchez He's like so Russell Wilson. He was a third round pick he He makes just under seven hundred thousand dollars. Oh Jesus. He's like yeah Sanchez will make that in about a game right based on base salary alone Sanchez will earn Russell Wilson's seasonal take in about five quarters. Then he goes on to uh whether whether he plays or does anything right guaranteed but guaranteed then he'll then he goes on to jab. That seems fair since it'll probably take Wilson 16 games
01 Justin: to throw as many interceptions as Sanchez can in those five quarters. Wow nice jab. Yeah, but whatever we'll tell you because it's funny. Well, he's my Already, it's still funny, but it's it's kind of this thing where There's this middle like place in quarterbacks And I feel like the Ravens fucked us up with flacko because he's like right there and even though he just won a Super Bowl He's like he's that like he's that middle guy middle that you just paid a shit ton of money to rate It's great for us, but we we do it too. We paid the shit ton of money to Sanchez and that's This is this might be and I think it's a good point especially with last year But look at this you look at the quarterbacks this year. What happened to them? They just fell off the fucking face of some of them didn't some of them didn't Yes, they did. Other than Bills, who just everybody 100% agrees, there was no quarterback. Wait, what are you talking about? No, one quarterback taken in the first round. Oh, draft. I thought you meant quarterback play. No, no, no. I'm saying quarterbacks taken in the draft. You saw people say, fuck it. I'll take them in the second or third or fourth round. Because A, this was supposedly a very weak quarterback draft. class but to have even a guy that wasn't even projected to go in the first or second or third round go in the first which Everybody said they just reached the shit out of that for EJ manual You know and then have I do not think that the Jets were targeting You know Smith they weren't targeting him in the second round They were certainly weren't targeting him in the first round right they would have picked him that was just say oh shit This guy just landed on us. We have to take him. This is It's just too much good value, which in some ways draft board leaked. Yeah, I saw that. And they had Gino as a second round grade. Yeah, but that's they had a lot of people that were really off agreed. He's a second round and he will be paid very little money. Kaepernick makes 1.3 million. So he'll probably be like around. that range but like RG3 and Andrew Luck they make five million a year. Would you rather have Andrew Luck for five million for the next three years or Joe Flacco at like 20? Right. It's not even close. Well this is a really good article I mean because then you get to that point where you have to make the decision. Right. Do I sign this guy or not? with luck and RG3. We get the four year point. More with luck. Luck's like a guarantee, right? Well, and again, to all the haters of Sanchez and the haters of Tannenbaum for what he did, he was trying to lock in Sanchez at a low point for a low amount for a long time. That's what he was trying to do. Yeah. And he thought that the upside was going to go up. What he was trying to do is avoid what's going to happen at the end of this season with Josh Freeman. and the box because Josh Freeman is like He's in like no man's land. You don't know if he drafted a quarterback didn't they in the late round?
00 Justin: They did. Yeah, but they they don't know if he's good. They don't know if he's awful. He's like somewhere in between What do you do with that guy? And this is his 50 years same as Sanchez, right? I think Stafford's already locked like they locked him in big numbers. I think with in Detroit Like John like he was trying to avoid this Josh Freeman Situation that's gonna have wait basically wait until the last year and and what happened to the Ravens this year where flack Obed on himself and one right went into the year lame duck, knowing he was going to be a free agent bet on himself and one. I mean, here's the thing. Now, a lot of guys do that. Call me fucking crazy. But you're a fucking crazy. I'm crazy. Why wouldn't someone like the Ravens seeing the current landscape of quarterback, seeing what you can do with young guys, seeing that they were in a total, they're basically in a rebuild at this point. They're sort of trying to rebuild on the fly, Bye, bud. It's not gonna work. It's not gonna work. They just lost the emotional leadership that drove them to that championship. Why not not sign Joe Flacco? Go into the draft with knowing that you're gonna get a good quarterback in the first or second round, knowing you're gonna pay him one third of the money. Spend all the rest of the money on other stuff and just like rebuild. Would just a fan base would have just gone crazy? The fan base would have killed him. How do you not resign a Super Bowl winning? Quarterback you don't I guess you don't have but I mean what were the more the real market Do you think the external market for him was half? I don't think he would have made that money would have let him hit the open market Who would have gone after him someone would have went after him Someone would have kept money would have went after him and I think of a team that would have been like sure someone would have absolutely I mean, it absolutely would have happened. You know what? I'm going to sort of rat hole us because we talked about Flaco. We were in Vegas. Vegas last week or two weeks ago now. Two weeks ago. Wow. It seems like forever. You're celebrating a very special day. So I don't want to say the player's name. I'm not going to. But I found myself at a blackjack table at night. Late one night. playing blackjack with a cornerback on the Steelers. I'm going to leave it there. It's like, OK, but a known one that if you said his name, you know, you wouldn't. Oh, he's an off known one. You you don't know him, but he's been on the team for frickin ever. No, a few years. Um, you're basically good. Anywhere's number 19. Anywhere's this number? No. So, I don't know why you would not say his name. What does it matter? I just don't want to say his name. Well, he's in Vegas. He's, yeah, I don't want to like, you know, blow up his spot or anything. He's a public figure. I don't want to blow up his spot. Bieber was in our hotel. Just saying. I just actually want to blow up his alright. Go right. I mean you say that he like he like Touches little boys or something like what are you gonna say? I mean he was playing you know he was playing
04 Justin: Blackjack so alright fine his name's Curtis Brown, okay? I was playing blackjack with Curtis Brown at like it's probably like a $10 table at a $10 table ridiculous so whatever he's an NFL player He's like a third round pick like two years ago or whatever. Three years ago. So I asked him because he was on the Steelers. So once we found out that he was a player, we started talking about football and he's like, damn, you guys like know more about these guys than I do. Right. Right. Like, well, probably not, but okay. So we started asking, we're like, is Joe Flacco really that good? Like Big Ben's better than him, right? He's like. I'd rather have Big Ben than Joe Flacco. Oh yeah, he's like, Big Ben can do things Now mind you this guy's not a starter right he's more of us like a nickel situation guy Do you know what he said? West Walker? Nope. Oh, I'll give you a few guesses Just as player it was not okay What was it just who's the who's the best wide receiver? Who's the hardest wide receiver for you to cover? That was the question Oh But I think if someone he plays against more than more than often than not you sort of have to okay So it's someone in the like and kwon bold it was an quam bowl Wow first. Yeah, he goes my second He goes I was like and kwon Bolden. He's like Yeah, he's like covering a linebacker. I was like no kidding He's like he's So fucking big and strong and he's faster than you think he's like enormous It's like oh man that's impressive he's like yeah he's so hard to cover and i was like oh i guess you you know playing over the middle he's a big dude so then i but then i lost a little respect for kurtis and this is why i didn't want to bring up his name i'm so glad you didn't tell we'll take it out in post yeah because i was like i was like so tell me the truth does marx sanchez suck and he said yes He said, I don't know. I was like, what do you mean? He goes against him. He's like, I never played against him. I'm like, what do you mean? He had to championship three years ago. Well, he might not have been on the team at that point, but they played last year in week two. OK, I stopped. I didn't want to. I was like, we're having fun. OK, we're playing Blackjack. I'm not gonna blow you up. We're gonna stop Looked he played in the game. So like clearly he didn't remember it So like, you know, I just wanted to know from a corner I was like does is mark Jensen's has hard to prepare for it What's he saw worse worst case scenario is and you didn't have it happen if he just goes who yeah It could have been one of those who you know, I bet he was just trying to be nice. He probably
03 Justin: He probably wearing Jesper finally at the time. No, I wasn't. No, no, no. But it was fun. You know, we were kept chit chatting. He was like, yeah, Big Ben, he's really great. I mean, it's his quarterback, his guy. And then, you know, we were talking about Flacco and because the Bolden thing, I was like, just Flacco, really that good. He said, no. No, by the way, having mentioned this now I'm thinking we probably shouldn't have done that, but it doesn't matter. We didn't say anything. I told you I didn't want to do it, but I did. I didn't want to mention his name. Everybody's like, I did. Stare into your mic right now or stare into your earphones. Yeah, we're going to hit you with those things. All right. Well, let's keep going on some Jets news. What about Goodson? Mike Goodson being arrested for pot. Well, how about the rest of the situation here at quarterback? Jake: Alright, well, because I have a question from the fans. Justin: And a percentage yeah, give me a starting chance 25% oh, I think it's like 65% really yeah, I don't yeah I just don't think there's any Unless he just starts to really really just sort of not get it or can't get it. I think they're gonna I think it's I'm gonna say 50-50, but I think they're gonna Trent 50-50 going upwards. I think it's 25% I think they're gonna let Sanchez roll till Till he hangs himself there and let him hang himself and then but but he doesn't he doesn't that's why why let him hang himself Because because I think you should give the guy a chance in a new offense every chance and he should and deserves to Get the first shot I think he's earned the first shot. And that's the reason why I say 25% chance. But that's, his first shot's gonna show up in training camp and preseason. If he fucks with, if he's working with the first team now, like he's the one working with the first team not. All right. I know. So you're saying 25% I'm saying. Yeah, and I even think that might even be 50%. Plus, what's left for the Jets to pick up? Hm, more wide receivers. Like, what do we need? We just picked up a wide receiver. Tight end. We're talking to another wide receiver. Tight end probably, I mean, it's probably on offense, skill position somewhere, because you never know what might happen with Gibson at this point. He has TE maybe, we just said that. Vet QB? No. No. We have a Vet QB at this point. Yeah. He can be a perfectly good backup. Mark Sanchez, the most expensive backup on the planet. Could be. Fine. Um... Safety? Safety? We got a bunch of safeties. Yeah. They're all like. We could use one that's not so green. Um...
00 Justin: All right, and Yeah, so let's talk about the good. What else do. Out of the cubey situation. Well, there was an interesting... I like the headline. It was like the chesh stands on. I think was the headline or something along those lines like... uh let's see what was the actual headlight? Well what was it about? It doesn't matter. What was it about? The 09 draft. The CHES stands alone. The 2009 draft class for the Jets. There is one player left. Sanchez. Rex's first year. They drafted three players. Right. That's it. Right. Sanchez. That was the... Sanchez in the first. They traded up to get Sean Green in the third, who they had a first round grade on. Which turned out to be wrong. But good third round pick. Um, and Matt Slauson. In like the sixth. That was it. That was the whole draft class. That's why the team steadily like, like decline. They were talented. They added a rookie quarterback to play like, you know, he sort of didn't do much as rookie. Or he just, it was like, hey, just, you know, handle the snaps. Like hand the ball off to Thomas Jones. Right. Don't try not to turn the ball over. I had a couple games that I remember him like, fourth quarter comeback type of games, but... Try not to turn the ball over. His second year he played better. He was more involved. Alright. But I think that's like an indictment there on Tanny, right? So it's like, hey, you're going to come out of the draft with three players, none of which are going to play special teams at all. Right. You're not gonna play your quarterback special teams. This running backs not playing special teams. He's a thumper He's not a speed dude can't return and slawson's on a block for field goals, but that's stupid, right? Whatever Yeah, that's no good That's why like you see like in 2011 two years later when that draft class is supposed to be the core of your team And yeah, three yachts. Actually, there's a great article or a great thing I posted or tweeted. You can't take credit for that. No, I tweeted. Oh, here. AFC How was Assembled chart. So it's a chart of how they assemble. I'm going to send this over to you somehow. Just put it in this thing that we're here in. Okay. I'm going to try to throw it in that thing because it's really interesting. Put it in this document. Here. That we're sharing. thing. Here oh, that's not it. Thanks. That's not it. That's not it. What am I supposed to do with that? Shush, well you're doing that. Oh it popped up in oh, it is a doc. No, no, that's it That's it. All right, pretty actually it's pretty interesting. Whoa. Hello there. So what is how the Jets roster was assembled Yeah, so it shows you where everybody came from from what years Oh interesting This is really interesting. I looked at this the other day and it only goes back to 2006. I think that's the only people we have. Those are the oldest players. That's when we acquired, yeah, I guess you're right, without Brandon Moore and Brian Thomas.
05 Justin: So what it does is I tweeted this out so you can look at my tweets at Jekyll. And they have two guys from 2006 left on the team. How to 2013 New York Jets. roster was assembled and basically on the top part it has where they came from. April Draft, college free agent, free agent, unrestricted restricted trade waivers and then down the side it has on the left hand side the year and then the number of players and if you look back it's 2006 two players that we still have on our team from the draft to Bricashaw and Mangold. This is surprising as fuck. Yeah, isn't it? We only have three unrestricted free agents that sign with us? Well, unrestricted free agents are... Unrestricted free agents. Restricted free agents is zero because no one ever would have. Anyway, kind of interesting. If you look at where the bulk of the players are, they're from free agents and drafts. Yeah, well, that's probably everybody every team but look at the free agents not 53, but this is not the 53 This is like the 90 right? This is everybody But you can pick out the people who are gonna be on the on the team Anyway, kind of really interesting look at where people were coming from and then the trades like not a lot on the trades Ivory Shwander off. I don't even know who the hell that is. Okay, our backup Who probably won't even be on the team maybe. Holmes and Camardier. Okay, there's three solids and... That was the year they went for it. Yep. 2010, we went for it. You're right. Well, no, yeah. So, and then in 2009, you're right. Only one guy from the draft, Mark Sanchez. 2010, the only people left. Kyle Wilson, Dukas, and McKnight. Alright. See you again. 2011, but it starts to build as the years go on. Wilkerson, Ellis, Powell, Curly, McElroy, I think it's Con this year. I have to think that they'll cut him. I feel like there's too much bad bullshit with him. They should have cut him last year. They should have cut him after his comments in the offseason in Alabama. Alright, um, alright, what else we got? Gino and... Gino and Jiga. Gino and his new agency. Here's the thing. This stinks to me. This is why my number is low. Well, because you don't like him. Starting. No, no, no. He's just an idiot. This is the dumbest thing you can do. Why would you pick? in the New York market with all the hype going on people already calling you whatever you firing your agents doing all that why would you draw any more attention to yourself than just to hire the best why don't you just go to go to CAA and hire an agent yeah hire a really good one that's it let's go why do you need to go hire Jay-Z and his not yet Even certified even certified agency that they're now investigating. Why do you know what this does?
00 Justin: This shows his character. And this is why my number for him starting is very low. Well, I think it gets hurt by this type of stuff. This is just this is a bad maneuver. This is dumb off the field stuff that we don't have to be worried about. Bad maneuver. Yeah. And then Nameth, you have in here Nameth making noise. He could basically call out the Jets organization, which I just don't get. I just don't get. I want Nameth, and maybe it's just my own perception of Nameth. I just want Nameth to be. I just want him to be like a figurehead associated to the Jets. a positive figure that we look back on at a better time when we won a Super Bowl and just, that's it. I don't want him to be a mediaite. I don't want him to be giving opinions. I want him to be a positive figure for the New York Jets fans and the New York Jets organization. I don't want him to be doing any, you want negativity? Come to the Jekyll and the podcast. I will fucking blow out your asshole with negativity. But don't I don't need him. He's like he's like our last hope. It's like Luke Skywalker come back like, well, the fucking, you know, they fucking Jedi's, they really kind of suck. It's like, no, dude, you like you got to be our last hope. I don't know. I don't know what to say about him. He's he's apparently not on speaking terms with Woody. But even that, why is that even? Why do I even know that? Why? Everything I should know about. Shut the fuck up. So many things. He thinks that the Jets front office has been deceitful with the fans. Again, another comment that doesn't need to be. Doesn't have to be made. I mean, do I think that, you know, Rex Ryan sitting last year saying this is the best roster I've ever seen in my entire life is a bunch of bullshit. Yes, but I also said what is he supposed to say? Yeah, this this is the years the worst piece of shit I've ever seen I wouldn't take a shit on this team like no He's got to say what he's gonna say I just I've said this before about Nameth. I really just name if I want you to be Like I just want you to be a positive piece for the for the Jets and the fans I think that's where you would be a great use to us As a fan, I don't need another negativity. Just be Yogi Berra. Be Reggie Jackson. Just be dignified. Be there in the preseason when shit is not real and show up at the OTA, show up at the camp to just be like the rah-rah hero legend of the team. That's what I want, hero legend. And that's it. it. Right. I don't need your opinions. Talk to Sanchez a little bit. Yeah, go over, talk to Smith. How you doing? I remember when I got drafted. Don't chat with Morning Wig about what he's gonna do. Right. Just blow smoke up his ass. I think the problem is he wants to be a media mogul now. Not me, but he wants to be a person. He's seven years old. He's beyond that. That's the point, but he does these blogs. He does like... He's a little beyond that. He does like, you know, like... Joe Namath corner or something he does these like video blogs like don't do yeah Don't do that. I feel like they're like fake when I see just be a positive influence All right, Mike Goodson. Let's get into it. I don't really know a whole lot
02 Justin: All I know is that it's making it's making it's Xix first two moves Look not so great. I mean, I don't yeah, I don't really have too much of a problem with the garage thing It does. I do. I thought it was a little bit of a lack of waiting. Well, judgment in like this needs really that fucked. Wow. What are you doing signing? Right. So that's a little lack of judgment. This this was a high risk, high reward thing that any fantasy owner just to relate a little bit. We'll say, yeah, I'll pick the injury prone guy who could go off if he plays all 16 games. Or could have really good 10 good games. You know, blow out his knee in the third game. Sure, I'll take that one. It wasn't a risk from a character standpoint. Yes, that is exactly what's on the list. I don't remember there being a character response. That is why teams stayed away from him. He's had these problems before. Um, apparently, he was like so drunk when he got pulled over in the car that they had to take him to the hospital. He couldn't like walk or speak or anything. He had marijuana on him. There was a gun in the car, not his supposedly, allegedly. We don't know. So we won't spectate. Alright, um... But you know, this is like we don't need this shit. And to top it all off, we look like we look like hypocritical asshole because we cut two guys to no name schmoes who did basically the same thing. Right. But this guy's a six million dollar three year player. But this guy's actually counting on this. But it's gotta be something in his contract that if we cut him, we owe him nothing. Well, yeah, I mean, I have to wait. We have to wait for both. the law and the NFL don't know which one holds more weight in this situation to come down and rule on what is going to happen. I mean, if the guy's suspended, he might be suspended for four games. He might be suspended for whatever. Who knows? I really don't know. The only thing I do know is I'd like him to play because he has talent. Yeah, I've seen him play. He's fast. he brings him dimension that We don't have but I think his his his What he brought to the team was a lot and then when we picked up Chris Ivory what he brought to the team was less No, he's I think he even is More more sometimes less is more like Sean Green Less was more. When Sean Green was 1A to Thomas Jones and to LT, Sean Green was great. When Sean Green was 1, you're the guy. And like Joe McKnight or Blau Powell or someone else, or like older LT, one year older LT, is not gonna be able to run the ball as much.
02 Justin: Thank you very much. He was way less effective. So to me, this is he's even more effective now that you have Ivory because they can split the time. Maybe works out perfectly. Maybe he comes in after four weeks of suspension and he's going to have to play 12 games. I don't know. But Ivory's a bigger dude who has some speed. But this guy's a speedster and in, you know, perfect third down scat back type of guy who can catch the ball and isn't that big names? Yeah, but it's not good. We know this by now. Running back. No, running, running backs are not receivers. Running backs are not quarterbacks. Running backs. are either good or not almost immediately. So on our roster, I'm going to play a game called Good or Not Good for the running backs. Yeah. Our four running backs. Chris Ivory, good or not good? He's good. What's his face here? Goodson. He's good too. I mean, none of these guys are like great. I think he's good. I think he's solid. McKnight? He's a special teams player. So he's not good. He's not a good running back. Okay. I'm just you The game was good or not good. Not good or I was any good. They wouldn't assigned either Goodson or traded for ivory Like they would have just stuck with what they had so That's you know, that's on yeah, that's he's had so many years. This is his fourth year running backs in their fourth year. They've They've typically either not had the chance or have completely broken out and while I know while I'm saying this I kind of sound a little stupid because Ivory's now in his third year. Goodson's in his like third or fourth year and neither of them like broke out with their teams Ivory was in a tough spot with the Saints. But again, they drafted Ingram in the first round. So they had Ivory on the roster, then drafted Ingram in the first round and held on to, you know, Pierre Thomas, and signed Darren Sproles. I was like, Oh, well, hmm. All right. But he showed like serious flashes when he played Joe McKnight never showed anything Except he can return a kick for a hundred yards. Yes. He can know we can do that Can't return punts though. Alright, so let's move on What do you think should happen? So if he gets found 100% say the NFL does nothing. Yeah the The NFL does nothing. Yeah, whatever. It's a watch to know says first offense. We're but we're watching you now It might not be his first defense. That's okay. I don't know what it is. I mean You don't think they should just cut it now set the new standard. This is his chance This is his chance to set the new standard of this team and say we're not put up with a nice bullshit your cut No. Okay. I mean, then we get into this thing. It's like, oh, you'll cut the Schmoes. We won't cut the guy who like, you know, Hey, special teams. It is what it is. All right. If Tom
03 Justin: Brady did the same thing, the Pats aren't cutting them. So true. Uh, not saying my good sense Tom Brady, but one of your favorite, uh, beat reporters is moving on. Really? Yeah. So munition, not gonna, not gonna, not gonna, not gonna write for the daily news anymore. Good. Yeah, that was all my doing. Yeah, it was you're doing I had a battle with him I do one one-sided battle. I want he didn't even right where he didn't even know you exist Yeah, you know what? He got moved on. Yeah, I wonder why but he is He actually posted some the other day and I tweeted I tweeted like look he actually quoted somebody like cuz he's his thing Was off the beat it was the He was just, he was constantly, yeah, unsources sources sources. And it's the stuff that just brings down our team. Like it's something that makes, and I'm sure it happens in every market that we're just not a part of. I'm not in San Diego, so I don't hear the unnamed sources talking about how Phillip Rivers can't get it done. Whatever. I'm sure it's happening. I'm in New York market. I read the New York stuff. It just seemed like every other time you turn around and be like unnamed sources, say this, this and this. and. You know, I know that newspapers are supposed to report stuff and, you know, make headlines, but it always seemed negative and it always seemed like a tint of making the Jets just look bad. Yeah. And, uh. He did. I think it's the news though, because. Yeah, well, that's because Samini was there before and he was extremely negative. It was like, this team is fucking shit. They made the FC Championship. But they suck. Now you're right for ESPN. New York and he's pretty negative still. He slants a little negative, but he's he's it's not as bad Not that bad. So do you think he was direction? So Manish maybe was giving directions like it's usually editorial direction I I would that that that article is too positive. You need to put in some more negative shit. Well, it's more like, you know Go after this type of thing as opposed to this type of thing. So if you have the chance to write about You know a creation of a controversy versus writing about the feel-good long snapper You know right right about the controversy. I guess so All right. Other news on the agenda you want make shit up speed. That's also in the editorial notes Make shit up if you'd like speed bound Okay, the Jets signed a new wide receiver after getting rid of after putting garard on official retirement list Ben Obamanu Oba ba ba ba nan Obama in his last name just saying he does he might be on the roster He might not know there. This is another Raiders cast off right? Nope. No, I thought it was Raiders. No Where do you play? You played with Seattle. Oh. Oh. Oh, OK. Is the Seattle cast off? Yeah. All right. I mean, he actually had a year or two of halfway decent productivity. So he's actually played in the league. I feel like that's our entire roster. It's full of guys who had a half year where they were just OK.
01 Justin: Well, no, he's had full seasons of. Full seasons of. like number three, number four productivity. I mean, Seattle again, Seattle wasn't a very good passing team. And even last year, they weren't like a great passing off. I went out and got Sydney Rice years ago because they wanted to try. Yeah, just kept trying. Now they've got what's his face. They've got both. Sydney Rice was with the Vikings and Percy Harvin was with the Vikings. Yeah, both of those guys. We'll see. I mean, I don't even know if he'll be on the roster when the season starts, but whatever. I'm more worried about Wide Receiver than I am about Taiten. I feel like Taiten, Me too. a couple guys that I'm kind of- Hayden Smith, baby. I'm hoping he'll become really good. Hayden Smith. He's coming. Big rugby dude. Wide Receiver. Holmes is not doing anything. He's not. He's also recovering. Yeah. Well, that's what I mean. Our number one- who's nobody else's number one. Our number one is still recovering from a terrible foot injury. Our number two is a rookie. Our number two is a rookie who can't stay healthy. Can't stay healthy. Number three is Curly. That's a good number three. That's three. He was a leader in yards last year. Curly. And four Chad Shillens. I don't think he's on the team. Oh, who's our four? I really don't know go to my if you have to go to your your little dock here you can Does it break it down by position? It doesn't know it doesn't but I can look for it hill Jordan way no way for other people here Hey, it's no Jordan. No Jordan Thomas Mayo No, these are just no no no no no No, and no And no and no hard finding the wide receivers on this guy damn like gates by gates. That's number four That's just that's bad. That's gotta be that's gotta be so I'm hoping some of these guys pick up like we get some of these This is gonna be like a you know KJ Stroud just comes up. He's like he's the guy or Or Thomas Mayo just what the I'm gonna have amazing Amazing, teddys ryan. Did you know that? Yes. You know, we got all these shit guys. You know that that Rebus still costs us 13 million bucks this year on the cap. Ugh. I don't understand how the NFL works. Because this isn't like... oh. Like once you trade a guy, shouldn't... shouldn't it not count against... I mean, it's not even real money. It's not money we're actually paying him, it's just cap money. By the way. It's not real money. Thanks for my new ringtone. I don't really understand how the NFL thing works. I don't understand it. I don't understand sometimes like I get, okay. So this 13 million bucks is what he would have cost us on the cap. If he was on the team and it was deferred because the salary is really six, but I guess his cap number is 13. Cause in the first year, maybe the cap number was like, I don't know.
00 Justin: I really don't understand it at all. and how a guy can just not be on your team and be on someone else's team. Meaning like they're not retired, they're not right. And you didn't cut them. You didn't cut them. You traded them and you still have to pay. Like, shouldn't that money just go over to them? Like, you should be able to trade a guy and his cap money. Okay, where you get him and his cap. Let's just take it you can spread it out over the course of his Six year one year contracts speaking of spreading out I'm gonna spread out my 60,000 or yeah $6,000 thousand dollars. Yes Because just see of this guy you bought me a 60 to 1 odds Jets Super Bowl. They don't call it super well called They call it D Uh, and a football championship. No, they can't use NFL. They use football championship. Football championship game. You can't use the thing because it's protected. So the football championship game, um, 61 odds just to win the Super Bowl. Probably the lowest second to lowest team. Maybe like, no, there was quite a few. There were worse. A hundred ones and stuff. Cleveland was real bad. I was tempted to buy a Cleveland ticket. But I did. So yeah, thank you for that. You're welcome. You get 6Gs? Well, if I get 6Gs, it'll just barely pay for me going to the Super Bowl. Enjoy it. That's sort of the way it'll work. But an interesting little article that popped up this morning talking about the Jets and are they over under on a 6 win team? A lot of people are predicting them to be basically like a 5 or 6 win team. So not in that camp. No, I know by the time I know I know that I'm better People think they really are some saying much most piece of shit on the guess what that defense is gonna be good I think the events is gonna be pretty good. It's really good. And as long as they don't turn the ball if then they'll win some games. As long as they don't put up 22 interceptions a game or a season. They'll win some games if they don't turn the ball over. That defense is going to have them playing or just running. So you're just you're just praying. You're praying for two things. You're praying for either Sanchez to become. to reverse his trend, his downward spiral. Go back two years. And then you're hoping for, or you're hoping for him to be sidelined really quickly and to put in a guy like who, like Geno Smith, who in college, very, very high percentage, like 71% completion of passes. Very, very, very different offense, obviously. Asked to do completely different things. That's where I think my percentage comes down is that what morning way is gonna ask of these guys is like Don't you think Sanchez is a better like Idea of how to grasp stuff I feel like he's gonna be a point pick up the offense better and faster and be able to produce that in in
00 Justin: training camp faster and and He's played against a Rex Ryan defense for 40. Gino Smith's gonna look bad. But if he goes in there against the one defense, he's gonna look bad because that upside is gonna confuse the shit out of him. But the upside in Sanchez is is so low that it's like... Well, it's only AFC Championship game. That's still the only no I'm saying this year. He's only the if you change the lane Yeah, okay. Were we supposed to make the AFC championship game with him as a rookie? Was that supposed to happen what happens if he actually does well this year then great fuck us? No, fuck us. It means we have a quarterback. No Their fans will never turn around and say they want Sanchez to be their quarterback. You're a fan. What do you say? Where I stand. Can we turn it around? Yeah. Playoff bound? Yeah. I mean, don't you think the Dolphins feel like real shitbags for like not signing Drew Brees? Because their doctor said he couldn't play? Well, like 10 years later, he's still playing. And a Super Bowl. And a Super Bowl. An MVP and throw him for 5,000 yards and broke Marino's records. Wouldn't that have been cool if he broke Marino's records as a Dolphin? Oh, blasphemy. But I mean, come on. Yeah, I guess I just it's so hard to see like I'm trying to use my mind's eye and I can't see it So you're definitely on the over six wins over six wins more All right six one last tweet what we get last year. Were we at six? I think they'll be better than they were last year. I just thought the defense will be just well Here's why I know they'll be better because if If the sand, if the suck chest shows up, if suck chest butt fumble comes to the game, he'll be bent so quick. And they have someone to go to. And they have someone to go to who they want to do well. They didn't have someone to go to. Last year they could've. They didn't want that guy to play. They really could've last year if they really wanted to. They probably could've won more games. with Tebow. A couple more. They could have played Tebow Ball. Yeah. For 12 games. Well it wasn't 12. What's the game that just... Well the Niners game was awful. Okay. I think they were they were at that point like 2 or 4. But they didn't want to start him. No they never did. No they never did. That's why this whole thing was with Fars. The only reason why... But they do want to start Tino Smith because he is... he is either... a very cool backup for the second round, which is why I love the second round piece of it, because you do not have to start second rounders. In fact, if you throw a second rounder away, and you never use them, who cares? Does anybody remember that we picked up Kellen Clemens in the that pick on Kellen Clemens. Do you know how many second rounders the dolphins picked up like Yes, if they hit, then you're Colin Kaepernick, although Russell Wolfson, I think, was a fourth rounder. Yes, you can take a second rounder and become something, and then they remember that you got in the second round. But you can pick up quarterbacks in the second round and never use them, and no of one ever comes back to you and is like, well, , why do you pick them up in the second round?
00 Justin: We basically picked up two people ahead of Geno Smith. So, in my mind's eye, he's a third rounder. Because... We picked a first and a sec. We picked our first two picks in a normal draft You get one pick per round use two picks ahead of him He would have been somewhere in the third round and a third round quarterback I don't care if he's the greatest thing since sliced bread great you did great you hit the lottery right? But if you don't start it and people don't go, you fucked up because you didn't start a first rounder. Right and the pressure on him is less because it's not he's not Alex Smith. He's not you know Whatever, you know who comes out and just blows donkey dick and then they you know don't want to do with them First rounder. All right That it we're done All right. Oh, I've won last so we had D Smith Smithy D at Smithy D asked a couple questions asked you before and Jesse Spavack of Planet of Plano really bad back he says he says throughout there was he wants to update we're gonna do it again Last year we had 10? Yeah, we try to go for more. Maybe we go to 12? This one goes to 12. Okay. Go to 12. And we're thinking about... No, definitely. Some new rules. We have new rules. Like one more new rule. So for anybody who's a new listener, just because, bcause you just stumbled across last year, we did a podcast league, which I think a lot of podcasts do, because it's fun. You get to play against. We automatically make the roster. And I won. You did. I think I came in third. I hold bragging rights. Yes, you have bragging rights. You and I played in the playoffs and I beat you. Yes, you did. That was so cool. That was so cool. Beat the shit out of you. It won't happen again. So awesome. You won't even make the playoffs. I got lucky. People were scared of Adrian Peterson. High risk, high reward. Yup. Drafted him in the third round. Yup. You didn't do that in any of your other leagues because I know you. It wasn't allowed. I'm a keeper. I couldn't do it. AP was picked. up last year. He was dropped and picked up last year in one of our leagues. Before I got a chance to. So, so, I guess we did with 10 people, we did ESPN standard 10 team didn't do anything. The only rule we had last year was it you had to have a jet who's on the roster of the jets, an active roster. Right. Not an active player. Meaning he had to dress. He had to dress. Right. Right. Active. 53-man roster had to be on your active roster meaning one of your spots could be in your right You could start Sean Green you could start March Sanchez. You could start Tim Tebow last year at quarterback You could start by the new You get started ever because he never right you wouldn't get any court I had to go for the entire season hoping he would get swapped in and I can play at any Position or player or whatever so that was fun. I went with Jeremy curly most of the I went with Crone Lind, whatever the tight end. I just on rad rule. That's right common rule
01 Justin: I just threw him out got a zero burger zero burger every fucking time but I still came in third place So this year we thought okay, that's kind of cool But actually a friend of mine or friend of ours said hey, why don't you change it up a little bit? Why don't you make it same thing same rules rule one applies rule two of this season? is a little bit more difficult. It's a lot more difficult actually. Which is that you, while you can draft anybody in the entire NFL League who is draftable, you may not play that player during the week or weeks that they're playing the Jets. Very difficult. So for example, if you look in the quarterbacks and you're trying to pick and I might not want to pick Tom Brady. Because that means two weeks a year. You can't play him and you have to throw in someone else someone else and if you do play him you lose that week And then there's the bye week. So it's three weeks. That's three weeks So the value of I mean, I already know the players who are gonna like the value of iron Rogers went through the fucking roof right because we don't play the cream packers you play new orleans We play the pats twice, obviously So it's an interesting twist and it makes you have to stay, you know, stay up on. That's a good one. We also threw out the idea. Oh, we did know. Well, we threw it out there to ourselves. OK, I don't think we throw it in the garbage yet. We're sort of I guess we're soliciting ideas at this point. Yep. No patriots allowed. No, it's the same rule. The rule is not, oh, no Patriots at all. Literally, you can't draft a Patriot. I think we do that. We can't do it the same year that you're doing the other one, because then it just becomes two. You have to do one or the other. So let's play this year out this way, and then next year we can pick a team and just say they have our biggest rivals, which again is the Patriots. But let's do it. Plus, it's also fun to just not have Tom Brady on a team. It's like you look at the waiver wire and Tom Brady's. Never one the weirdest thing ever. At least Wes Walker is back in the mix. He's back in the mix. So we are going to do that again. We're going to do a draft. We're going to do online draft. We're going to do it sometime in late August, early September. Same deal. and application. The only thing is there's two of us are already on it and I thought we said we were going to give who came in second. Oh, I can't remember the guy beat. We're going to give him into the next year. The league is there, right? We can go look at it. I think so. Yeah. So, but for everybody else, you gotta, you gotta get back in. Yeah. And the way to get back in. We'll come up with them. What was the same thing as last year? Same questions, it sucks. Alright, we'll have new questions. Some of the same, but we'll probably ask some different ones. And you'll have to send in an email with your things. We'll read them and we'll decide whether you're in or out. And your picture. Oh, now you have a picture? I wanna see what you look like. It might sway one way or the other. Go to Spankwire and take screencasts. It might be your picture, it might be someone else's picture.
