27 Jake: The longest running and most out of date podcast ever. My name is Jake and joining me crossed the crappy wooden table. Is this wood a woody Johnson Fake Woody Johnson R. I'm cool. No, there just wasn't enough going on No Free Agency hasn't started Still hasn't started But like, you know, cuts haven't happened You know, cuts Guys have gotten cuts released from the jets from other places around Yep In NFL Free Agency, I think, started in weeks March March something March something That is draft I mean, the NFL has done a great job of just making it a 12-month Yeah circular you can do that I and Oh pocket now they have all the games the teams out there So like there's lots of news coming out of the combine because they're teens out there and give me the news I don't know. They have them interviewed and stuff. So like there's interviews with Scott right fantastic. All right, right. Let's start with the Super Bowl Super Bowl happened it happened. What'd you think of the Super Bowl? I think everything you thought in the world is wrong. I think Well, first of all, I just thought the Niners were gonna win. the Ravens for two reasons.
13 Jake: I always have this theory that Everybody gets hired away, people retire. They just end their sort of get up and go, goes up and went. So like it happens a lot. It doesn't always happen, but I think over the history of the Super Bowl, it's a pretty well-known fact that the year after you win a Super Bowl, you're not as good as you were the year you won the Super Bowl. The Giants two years ago this year, they didn't even make the playoffs. It's happened to Steelers, they went four games next year. Patriots have taken down years after winning the Super Bowl. So knowing that the Ravens are in our conference and that they are- We play them next year. And we play them next year. I always want that team to like, not want to try to win when we play them. Because that one win to us could be a big deal. That could be a go to the playoffs or not. So I always, so, and I want, I wanted regular to retire. I wanted Ed Reed to retire. I want Joe Flacco to get paid a ton of money to keep their money in Flacco. I want Flacco to get completely overpaid. So in some ways I'm always rooting for... So I have rooted for the Patriots to win on some occasions because I wanted them to not win. To not win the next year. Blasphemy. Now when they played the Giants, I didn't want them to win, so I wanted the Giants to win. Because I wanted them to... Blasphemous. So anyway, I was rooting for the Baltimore Ravens. She won some bets. I won a lot of bets. That's good. I won some Vegas bets. I had the Ravens 7 to 1 odds. And it also made me feel good that I picked the Ravens to be in the Super Bowl. Now I've picked them to lose. Yep, that's happened to me before on this very podcast. Well, this was my year again. I don't know. I liked it. I just had a really good time. It was very quiet. The wife and I, we made stuff to eat and made some fun things and just watched. I watched not 17 hours worth of coverage, but I watched a good 4 or 5 hours worth of coverage. I have decided. I have decided. While watching the Super Bowl, I made the decision that I'm never going to another Super Bowl party ever again. Oh yeah, I don't know why you go to- Every year! I go to the Super Bowl party, I used to host it, and now I don't live with that person anymore, and he hosts it. And I... I hate it. There's like not enough room for the number of people that are invited Squeezed into a seat on the couch sitting next to somebody who doesn't care They're talking to somebody who's sitting next to them who doesn't care They're just there because it's a party right and I just want to watch the game and I kind of want to hear the Announcers and I also want to watch the commercials and nobody's everyone's talking over everything It's because side conversation is not about the game.
01 Jake: It's like if you're not talking about football or the game, you need to shut your fucking mouth right now. Well, I think that's the thing is like you go to a suitable party if you're a non-football fan just for the sake of going. Yeah, it's a Super Bowl. But if you're a fan of the... This is what I've always said too, like... You know, they say, oh, if the Jets were in the Super Bowl, would you have a big party? I beg, first of all, the Jets in the Super Bowl, I'd be at the Super Bowl. Everyone's asked me that, too. And the second one, if I couldn't be at the Super Bowl, I would be at home. I'm home alone. Home alone. I'm home alone. I might tell my wife to leave. I'm a wreck. Right. Like, I'm literally. Maybe you and I could do it. I don't even know. Really? I'm literally a wreck. I, I, I. We've watched like 1,500 games together. But. We've watched like. If did I can't like I can't even fathom it cuz it's never happened But like even those championship games, it's like I don't really want people around Cuz I really want to watch that's weird cuz the championship games I was at the game and it makes like that's the only way I can do is be at the game I can't not yeah, so people have asked me like what if the Jets are insurable aren't you gonna crazy part? No, I will be there Well, what if you can't be there? Well, I'll try my best to be there. What if you can't be there? Oh my child and if I'm not there, I will watch by myself Maybe with my dad, right like but I don't want to be a pretty negative to like yeah, that's fine What else your dad says? Oh that freaking guy. He's so good. That's fine. Really? I throw a fit I throw a shit fit. I need to watch it with a jet van who has my feeling about the Jets. Like if you're a negative Jets fan, I don't wanna have you sitting there. Most Jets fans are negative. Yeah, I'm not negative. So what do you think? Let me get the blackout. The blackout turned the game around for sure. I thought it was very, as a fan who, you know, didn't really have any rooting interest. You know, I was rooting for the 49ers. You know, just because of a bat again, but that you know, that's kind of silly. I really didn't care who won In some respects I wanted the Ravens to win for the same similar reasons as you Like I thought if the Ravens can win the Super Bowl, they're gonna have to pay Joe Flacco the amount of money that he wants and he wants to be the highest paid quarterback. Right. So if he wins the Super Bowl... He's not going to be the highest paid. He doesn't want to be the highest paid. He wants to be paid in line with those guys. Well that's basically the... If you're being paid in line with guys you're basically asking to be paid the most. But he does not deserve to be paid the most. He deserves to be paid. He has a case. No. He sure does. Justin: There's a case. He's been to tell him you I don't think he's that good, but he's been in the league for five years Jake: He's made the playoffs all five years. He's won a playoff game all five years. He made the championship game three times He's won the Super Bowl once and his new MVP. He has a fucking case. He has a good case He has a case. I don't I think it's great pay him more than I don't care pay him 20 million dollars a year Thank you 40 year contract for 25 million dollars a year Pam. That's right manning money Pay him Breeze money, pay him Brady money.
00 Jake: Great. If that's what he's worth to you, great. That makes me happy. Yeah, exactly. Like the fact that they won makes me happy for that reason, that he's gonna make so much money. They're gonna have to make very hard decisions about a lot of free agents that they have. Great. That they're not gonna be able to bring back. That's it. Thanks for watching. They're talking like they might have to cut in on Quon Bolden so that they can pay Joe Flacco. Yep. That makes me happy. Yes. Cut in on Quon Bolden. He won you a bunch of games. That's right. Uh, you know, you can't sign that rushing outside linebacker or whatever the hell his name is. I can't remember. Oh, Kree-Kreiger? Kruger. Kruger. He's your best pass rusher because Sugg's playing injured. Fine, good. Can't re-sign Kruger. Fantastic. Ray Lewis retired great get him off the field. That's the heart of their team. That team. Good get off the field By the way, how the fuck did he come back? Seriously, I don't know he tore It's tricep. Yeah, but guys tear their triceps in training camp and go on the injured reserve list. I don't know I think that's also old injured reserve memory. You couldn't come back now There's the no injured reserve with potential to come back these guys Like guys are out for the year when they do that and he's back in like 10 weeks on the field He whatever I'm just so glad he's retiring. She got he totally cheated. He is don't you think you cheated dear antler spray? Yeah, whatever that is. Don't you think he cheated? I don't care! I think he cheated. I don't care. He's literally... He cheated. He's a cheater. He's a cheater and a murderer. Yeah, he's been involved in a homicide. That's what makes me think he cheated. And so what if they caught him cheat? If they're like, oh, we caught him. It's like, I don't give a fuck. I retired and I won the Super Bowl. Yeah, I won the Super Bowl twice. Yeah. Two Super Bowls and I'll be a first round Hall of Famer. First rounder. He's on ESPN. Yep, no doubt. You're upset. No, again, for all those reasons, I wanted Sam to go. So let me ask you a little question. Ask me some questions. Would you rather? This is an easy question. Would you rather? You would qualify this question. Because you don't qualify, it's an easy question. I'm gonna qualify. If I'm a GM, it's an easy question. I'm gonna ask you the question. Okay. You gonna qualify the question? I will qualify the question. Go on. You run the Jets. Yes! Hello John Idzick. John Idzick. Okay. I'm gonna present to you the question. They make the same amount of money. Oh, okay. Okay. Because, you know... That matters, but okay. It does. But which quarterback do you want moving forward? Colin Kaepernick or Joe Flacco? It is not even close. I don't think it's close either. It's Colin Kaepernick by 50,000 miles. I agree. And the reason is this. I agree, but I will make a statement afterwards.
00 Jake: Colin Kaepernick is, and there's a guy in our office here, dipshit, doesn't list his podcast, not gonna say anything in one, who just hates him. Hates him, hates him. It's like, I keep asking him why? What is the guy just doesn't like cuz he's tatted up. Yeah, because he just doesn't like his look He doesn't like he doesn't like him. It doesn't matter. Okay, the Niners are not the most likable team I just don't see that if you're a giant fan, which he is the Niners are not just cuz they I don't know What could he beat him twice like their rivals from when he was a kid? They were rivals and the Niners were okay, they would beat whatever so Kaepernick to me is a no Brainer and here's why I'm gonna play devil's advocate afterwards. The age of the dropback quarterback is still here, but the age of the dropback quarterback with someone who can run is, it's a 10 times more powerful weapon. Kid, from what I've seen, he has everything in the bucket. He has everything you need. He has He is both a passer, he is big, he is strong, he is a runner. Here's what I think he's gonna be, and this is gonna be crazy. He's gonna be a more successful Donovan McNatt. All right. He'll be all the reason. So let me, let me, let me, let me counter. Okay. A little bit. I will say I'm a little biased. And it's only because in our fantasy keeper league, I do have him and I picked him up off the waivers. So I'm a little bit biased by the whole fact that I own him in a league, but not a lot, because I actually liked him before. I think he's really good. And if you ask me who I wanted going forward, I feel like Kaepernick wins you games, where I feel as Joe Flacco, make sure you don't lose games. That's my so okay so Let me let me ask you let me ask you this So first off I agree. I want I would if I were to go forward I'd say I want Colin Kaepernick He's a little younger. He's just a much more dynamic player. Yep Doesn't necessarily need Many tools around him to make an offense work. He's got I will say or yeah He has one receiver crabtree and then a tight end and a good running back good running game. He does good offensive line He doesn't have he doesn't have Bolden and And Ray Ray Smith and Ray Rice, right, you know, he doesn't have those weapons, but I will say I can't remember the last quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I think that it might be Steve Young. That wasn't pure what you think of like pocket. Pocket,, prototypical, Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees. Ben Roethlisberger. Ben Roethlisberger even though he's got some scramble in him. He's not Colin Kaepernick, he's not Russ Wilson, he's not RG3, he's not Michael Vick, he's
04 Jake: not, you know, he's not Ham Newton. Right, I think the difference with all those people, everyone that you mentioned, is that I think Colin Kaepernick is a better passer before all those guys. I'm not sure. So I'm not I think his first two games he came out made passes that were so Dead-on I'm not sure he's a better passer than either Russell Russell Wilson or RG 3 absolutely I'm not sure your little bias in our duty well I'm not I'm not sure so let me ask you So even with all that said even though none of those types of quarterbacks that style right have won a Super Bowl Right so like I'll go back to Steve young but even Steve young by the time he won the Super Bowl that he won was more of a scrambler than he was a designed runner. like all these other guys that- 2011 draft. Yes. Okay. Colin Kaepernick was a second round pick. I'm gonna read you the quarterbacks that were drafted in 2011. You tell me and a lot of there were one, two, three, four, five guys drafted before him as a quarterback. Which one of these guys would take over him? quarterback drafted in this draft. I'm gonna start at the bottom. Yep. Greg McElroy. I would not take record for a over con. Tyrod Taylor. No way. Nathan Ender. No. TJ Yates who did win a playoff game. No. Ricky Stanzi. Absolutely not. Alright, here's where we get some names. That that was all fifth round. Now we got now we're in the third round. Ryan Mallett. No. Back up for Brady. Uh, now we have Colin Kaepernick. Andy Dalton. No. So, Colin. Christian Ponder. No. Now, these, these, now we're in the first round. Christian Ponder's 12th overall pick. Blaine Gabbard. Absolutely not. 10th overall pick. Absolutely not. Jake Locker. No way. 8th overall pick. Cam Newton, first overall pick. No. Colin Kaepernick, I think, is the best of the bunch, right? And Cam Newton is the one that you will have to have a- One, two, three, four, five guys picked ahead of him. He's the sixth quarterback picked in that draft. Here's the tough part with the Cam Newton one. Take Cam Newton, put him with a team, with a defense like the 49ers defense. Just put him on that team. Just literally- Flip him could could he do He could have success just as much if not Newton struggles from not from being Cam Newton But can you struggles from the number one overall pick and that usually means you're being drafted to the shittiest team I should a team with a shitty fan base
01 Jake: Sorry, you know the shitty defense city defense and shitty head coach the Niners were built to win with a quarterback Like Alex Smith who was a game manager. Then you put a dynamic playmaker behind that offensive line with that running game. That's offensive line in NFL. And with that design of that running scheme, that's a threat. So I think Cam Newton and Kaepernick are probably... on par with each other, like physical talents. Probably, yes. They're probably right there. Whether, like, I mean Kaepernick showed, displayed the ability in what was essentially his rookie year, his 10th start was a Super Bowl. Right. So he showed that ability to be a, you know, take over a team. And how, and weren't both this playoffs, like, huge come from behinds? He came well, and I did well, and he came back no, they just creamed Green Bay. That's true He had he had like statistically and in say did like 300. Yeah, it was crazy So but in that draft there were quite a few quarterbacks and quite a few he was the sixth one taken And you could make an argument that he should have been the number one overall pick in that draft. Give him a couple, give him a couple years and Cam Newton a couple years. Here's the good news. That's the crazy part. Like you look at the last two years. Here's the good news. You have him in the second round and you got Russ Wilson in the third round. You don't need the number one overall pick to pick a quarterback. These are athletes that now obviously the copycat league you're gonna see some of these guys get picked a little earlier than you know Kaepernick if he was coming out this year like he's like a Brad Smith type with a better arm Like Brad Smith if he was coming out now Might be might be a first or second round pick not a fourth round pick right and someone might have decided Let's roll with this dude as a as a as a quarterback, right? Maybe I don't know maybe now you're saying now. Yeah now let's roll with them Like 10,000 yards rushing He had all the same stats that like Kaepernick had in college. He's big Kevin is big Kevin is like big guy tall That's huge. I don't think spicy. He's like six three. All right You ask question here is Raven's repeat, absolutely not. Absolutely not. I will say, I will put it right now, they will not make the playoffs. This team is not, first of all, Steelers aren't gonna let them make the playoffs. The Steelers are no good. Yeah, the Steelers will bounce back. I don't know. I don't think so. This is a Steelers, Steelers go every other year. No, I look, they are, Jets are in trouble, they're in trouble. Count my eyes, they're in big trouble. Ravens won't repeat. That was, this is a once in a lifetime, do it for Ray. There's no reason that other guy. Oh, the guy that dude, they had all the stars aligned. They did. And that's why they once again, the team that just sort of like, you know, 10 and six.
07 Jake: Didn't have any crazy, crazy regular season. They didn't look like anything special in the regular season. they get into the playoffs they get their mojo going with with Ray Lewis it's the way to get it they got lucky because they got the Colts in the first round and then they got lucky in Denver with that long pass the miracle the whatever that was that should have never ever happened right and then they went into I mean hey they just beat them that's all power to you for those last two games. But they decided they beat them last year. They just didn't win. They beat them. That was the team that New England absolutely did not want to see. Right. Because the Ravens know they can beat New England. Yep. And I think they beat them in the regular season too. and they knew they had them beat last year in the playoffs and they owed them one. And Ray Lewis wasn't gonna go down like that. It was great. As much as they don't like Ray Lewis, that is the awesome, most awesome way to go out. You announce your retirement, you rally the team around you... You go out with... You go out with style and win the Super Bowl. You win your last game ever. That's the way I'd go. You hold that trophy up, that's it. That's the way to go. Yep. Alright, well let's get some freaking Jets news in this pub. We just spent 22 minutes talking about this freaking Super Bowl. Well we had to go over the Super Bowl. Next year's Super Bowl. So here's the thing, I'm just going to say it right now. We're going. No, the Jets and Giants can't be in the Super Bowl next year. Well, they can. No, they can't. Yeah, well that's because they're the hosts. It's physically impossible because it's the hosts. Maybe you could do the whole magic where they're not they're both both hosts in the same studio so but like I'm actually feel good about next year because It's like having the Madden curse. It's the Super Bowl curse. You cannot go to your home stadium. We're going The tickets are already like $1,600 each I'd love to go. I really want to go. I know friends who are trying to get them all ready. I've never been to the Super Bowl. I really want to go to the Super Bowl. I have friends who are trying to get tickets already with deep pockets and they're trying to get tickets already. So anyway, let's talk some Jets news. Get those friends to get me a ticket. Okay, you can take care of your own deep pockets. I know, they're not that deep. I would really love to go, but... And I've heard there's gonna be some special stuff, special sauce. But, and the nice thing is- I just wanna know who the band is gonna be. Oh, yeah. Playing in that weather. Let's talk about some jazz news. So this shit has happened. Like what? Like cutting players? Yeah, what do you want to talk about? Read this first and cut. Let's talk about cutting players. Because I have a thing on read this. Alright, so, so do I. So, Jets cut five, Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, Jason Smith, Eric Smith and Josh Baker, we're all cutzers saving- Not a surprise in the bunch. About $32 million from the cap. We were about $22 million over. Twenty over. So now we're under?
00 Jake: Under. Yeah, that was quick. But that was gonna happen. I mean, everyone was like, oh, they're so far over, but- All the cuts were super obvious like not Scott or whatever Calvin pace Scott I mean this is a guy when we got him as a yeah Well, we got him when he was in his prime and younger and faster and could play middle linebacker in the NFL Great now. He's like 32 years old and that's not an age that you should be Jason Smith Whatever that was a we knew when we traded for him that he was gonna get cut cuz it his salary went from You know two million to like twelve million now recording for cut him Reporting for cut exactly now reporting as eligible to be cut Eric Smith What I don't want him on our team never did there. No, Cowan pays and garbage Garbage pile. Yeah, I mean, you know. Hasn't lived up to the hype. Did not live up to the hype. Got injured a few times. Josh Baker, not the touchdown maker. Whatever. We have enough tight ends. We have enough crappy tight ends. We can get old. We have enough crappy tight ends. So, um. Tight end in an important position in the West Coast offense. We're gonna have to re-sign Dustin Keller. Uh, I think we're gonna, I think we're gonna franchise him. I don't think so. I think we're just gonna sign him. Okay. Maybe we'll tag him in the inside. So that was the cut. No surprises. No. There's still a couple guys that might still get cut Yeah, like who? Tim Chibo is gonna get cut They're trying to trade him Yeah, well everyone knows they're gonna cut him if they don't trade him so who's gonna trade for him Right, that's kind of a problem Who's gonna trade you anything? For a guy that you know that you can get But do, here's the thing, do we owe him anywhere? Do we owe him any money that we have to cut him at a certain point? because I don't think he's a money issue. I think he's more of just a like, if we could trade him issue. Yeah, it's a, we wanna trade him and then we're gonna hop. Because we don't see him on our roster next year. Yeah. But I feel like he's a guy, and I know this is silly, but I feel like this is a guy that starting in training camp, you have those one or two teams that like go in with their new guy, there's something and they get hurt. work. and they're scrambling looking for a guy that can kind of come in. I don't want him anywhere near the 2013 team. All right, well then. Like there's no reason for him to be to have a locker ever in the locker room. Well, just ruins it. It just you don't need it. So let's talk about some other let's talk about the big news. Which is the Reavis News, which is the Reavis Trading News. So you're talking about Reavis Trade or Reavis Twitter Spat? Well, Twitter Spat, fine. First of all- Richard Sherman needs to shut the fuck up. What a dickhead pulling out stats. Do you know what stats mean when you're a cornerback? It means people are not afraid to throw it near you. Right. And good for you that you caught a few of them. Good for you. It doesn't matter that to me great. You had more tackles That means your guy caught the ball more times like good good job Richard Sherman it you're good player He's good player, but you're not the real Rebus. I don't even care what I do care about is this whole trading thing Yeah, and do you have a rant prepared? I have a rant a rant prepared. I have a rant prepared I don't have a rant prepared all I will say and you know how I feel about it
04 Jake: is that I just want them to sign them to a long-term deal. Great. Here's what I want to say. Here's my little rant. I've been watching this thing. I watched the interview with him. I watched the press. They did the whole thing. They actually had Mike Tannenbaum on NFL Network last night talking about Revas and LT. It was LT and Mike Tannenbaum talking about Revas and San Chant. LT hates the Jets too. He actually wasn't as bad as you thought. He's usually terrible. Anyway. I saw Revas's thing, his quote, I saw his news conference, or where they interviewed him. Yeah, that's what they say. And here's the one thing that he says that I just don't get. Yeah. And I need Revas to do a little bit of. He goes, I get it to business, it's a business. But then four seconds later he says, but why didn't they just call me and tell me what's going on? I just need them to communicate with me. I understand it's a business, but why aren't they calling me and telling me what's going on, what's going on? Thank you. And it's absolutely, I'm sorry, Ravis, you should not go into public speaking, or write speeches, or do anything, because that's absolutely idiotic. You've just said the opposite thing. If you understand that it's a business, then that's why they don't call you, because it's a business. You do not call, or tip your hand, or tell people what's going on, because it's a business. If it weren't a business, they'd take you out to the local pub, have a beer with you and tell you exactly what's going on. It's a business. This is a multi-billion dollar business. You are an asset to the New York Jets, whether a trade asset or whether a player or whatever, but this whole like, why am I not be treating one way or another? Here's another reason, Rivas, because every fucking time there's been a contract negotiation with you, you've held out. You've created a stink. When there was a rookie contract, your second go, and I think your third go, every time you held out and made a stink about your contract. Why would anybody not talk to you about it? Because here we are again, and it's another time to make a stink. They don't need to talk to you. You are under contract with the jet. They don't need to call you. They don't need to placate you. They don't do anything. I love Rivas a lot. I love him. He's one of my favorite players. For him to get on and go like, why aren't they calling me? See you next week. because you're a fucking player. They've signed you to a contract. They don't have to, they could talk about trading you. And the other thing is, now we'll get into the real part, this whole like, and you called it out, this whole New York media making up bullshit stories that then everybody else falls under. So here's the other thing, Reavis. Why pay attention to it? Just because some rumor that someone's going to trade you, you're the number one player in the NFL that's under contract. You're the number one defensive player in the NFL. You're on a team that has huge cap injury. I could make up that rumor. So why pay attention to it? Why get on a camera and say, I'm mad at the Jets because they didn't call me? Grow the fuck up. It is a business. And if it's a business, then you shut the fuck up
01 Jake: and you play and you'll get your money. I just, I love him, but when he was saying all that, I was like, you're just, you're so off base on this. And I love the Jets, and my loyalty to the Jets. So if he becomes a Patriot, I'll fucking hate his guts forever, not true. But like, don't say it's a business and get on there and whine like they didn't call you. you. Here's the other thing, both Mike Tanenbaum and ALT made the point yesterday, which then made it even worse. They said, here's the deal. If they're going to trade you, they have to involve you. They have to involve your agent. You know why? Because they're going to trade you. They're trading you into a new contract. So you have to involve you. So if he had spent two seconds thinking about this, he would have realized that it actually couldn't even have been true. Because the jets were going to trade you, they would have had to talk to you. Right. Because the new team is not trading for a lame, like a one-year guy. For a one-year contract. No way. So how is it that everybody else knows that but you don't know that, Revis? That seems to me, that makes him even seem stupider. Like don't turn around because as a fan, you turn around and he starts pissing on the jets because they didn't call you or they didn't whatever. It's like, well, you didn't actually do your homework. They don't want to get rid of you. No one wants to get rid of you. but you are a huge huge huge amount of money and you've made a stink every time we've tried to make a contract with you. So that's why no one's talking to you. Got it? And rant. Done? Yeah, done. Alright. All I want to do is keep him on the team for his entire career or until he's... Beyond good I I mean he can have a little swan song somewhere else He's the he's our only next hope in the foreseeable future for a Hall of Famer We keep him on for five years and he plays at a level or whatever He will be a Hall of Famer as someone who went to the Curtis Martin inductee last year It'd be nice to know that in the next 10 years I could go back and see another jet put in. Because that's it. There's nobody else that's even close or could possibly go. Not your boy Stephen Hill. Well, he'd be, but he'd have to play 14 years and then five years of out. I think Rebus has another five to seven years in. Yeah, five, seven years then five years out. So I'm talking 10 years. He's got to be at, you know, he's got to stay at the level that he's been at. There's a reason I think he wouldn't. Well, there is. Tam Bailey is like well there there is There are a few reasons. One of which is the fact that his ACL was torn in half. So that's a reason. I mean, there is a reason to actually, you know, you don't want to have a guy who you cannot tag. just play out the rest of his contract because it puts you in a tough spot as a team. They're also in a tough spot with him because of the fact that he did just miss the entire season with the ACL. And you want to make sure that he, like you kind of, it sucks that it's, this is his last year, not. that there's not an extra year like the year after.
00 Jake: Cause we wanted to see how he comes back from this injury. Not everybody's Adrian Peterson. I don't understand. I mean, Joe, Joe Flacco went into this season zero. He played the entire year and won the Super Bowl. It was a big risk by the Ravens. and it was risked by Joe Flackoff. He got hurt that his values- Huge, huge, huge gamble by the Ravens. They would not have to pay him Breeze money if they would have extended him before the season started. I understand. It's what Tanenbaum was trying to do with Sanchez. I understand. What he was trying to do, I mean he played- another risk. Yeah. He, look, if Sanchez would have played to that level. Why not let me this go this year. Come back, we ought to in the contract, you're going nowhere, you can't hold out, you can't do anything. You come back, you play. If in the middle of the season you're doing great, we can sign you to a long-term contract, everybody's happy. Why not do that? I don't get it. Why? Because the the likelihood of that happening is so slim That he would sign in the middle of the season. He would sign that the enemy but then any team can make an insane offer to him and Nobody nobody takes less money. No, I- That does not happen. That we could pay, but- So your theory is- So some team could be like, you know what, you want quarterback money? We can't stop, we cannot stop the past. You got quarterback money. Here's 21 million dollars a year over the next five. But is he worth- is he worth that to the Jets? That's the problem. You lost him then. He's gone. He's gone then. But he doesn't have to sign a contract this year either. No, he doesn't have to but he's gonna want to what player wouldn't want to sign guaranteed money coming off an ACL If we can't come to an agreement with you, Joe Flago didn't want to sign the agreement because he knew that he could make it somewhere else That was great for him He took that risk and he won. He won the lottery But now Well two different scenarios one the Ravens can tag him and they will I don't think they will no they will they will tag him until They can come to an agreement Therefore they've locked him if they can't come to an agreement gets fine You're tagged and you get 20 million dollars play one more season and you can hold out or do whatever the fuck you want Reavis we don't have that luxury. We cannot place a tag on him that says you cannot go anywhere else if Come you know End of the year and we haven't signed an unrestricted free agent could come knock on our door and be like hey The road the Jets shit on you. They did not but they would never do it They didn't they didn't they didn't extend fine the the anyone doesn't matter Here's the thing. Why sign a guy? who you don't, to be the highest paid defensive, he wants to be the highest paid player, but let's say the highest paid defensive player
00 Jake: on the planet, who you don't know will come back and perform like the highest paid defensive player on the planet. It's a complete risk one way or the other. I don't feel like there's already risk for us. There is a risk in that if he comes back and he is Dorell Rivas. Great. Great. Then we work on a contract with him against somebody in the year. You're not, you're, that's not gonna happen. Because we have the same- It's not gonna happen. Okay, we have the same- I will tell you why that will not happen. Inter-year extensions and contracts get signed. Why would you, as Dorell Reaver, sign that contract? Because it's the same reason. Now, for the rest of- Wait, listen. If I'm on game four, I look like I'm good, I came through pretty, I played a couple good games, now it's, I have the rest of the season to go. I get hurt any point, anything happens with the rest of the season, I'm fucked, and my value goes down. I sign with the Jets now, my value's at the highest it's gonna get, and I have the security. It's the same business I know. No, he's gonna play out the year. and allow the market to go up, up, up, and make whoever offers the most money is gonna get me. So if, if, just like what Nomdee did, just like what anyone else does, they don't sign in the middle of the year because you can't get, you can't get the amount of money that... if you're negotiating with one team or if you can then have 31 other teams offering you money. So show me the history of corners, who are the, the, who's the guy who went to, before that it went to the Eagles from the Pats. Really good shut down corner. None of these guys were on Reavis's level. Like the only guys that I can think of that were like at Reavis level where Dion who's probably better than him Dion and maybe champ Bailey and You know, huh, maybe Rob Woodson in his day I just don't like there weren't that many I again I love Reavis I want to say on but if it's if it's he needs to be paid the highest amount of money ever then I don't think it's worth it because you put yourself in such a debt for the million years that there's so you talk about depth of a team then you have no depth on your team forever because of one player and you end up with a team that can't do anything because of one player and we even saw when he went out this year it's not like we became the we became the past happy You can't go to other guys who do the work. I know we've been for guys look but teams teams do this
02 Jake: I mean, this is how it is a workout built. No, it doesn't work out not true It's not really true The teams that I have seen okay, let's go over. Let's go over the Super Bowl winners for the last whatever Name one person name one that has paid their a defensive player The most amount of money, ever put, ever, ever played. That's the the highest paid player on the team that's won a Super Bowl in the last 10 years. Go for it. Alright. Let's go over the teams. Okay, so the Ravens just won. Yeah, no, there's no play. Was Ray Lewis not the highest paid player on the team? He wasn't? He wasn't? No. He's not? He's not. Like, the defensive players aren't paid more on that team than the offensive players. Show me one player on that team that's paid more than anybody else on the team. I have to imagine the highest paid player on the Ravens is on the defensive side of the ball. and Whether it be Ray But more than wait highest paid player in the Ravens on the raid. I don't think Yeah, I have to true statement. We should go ask our thing. I just don't think that's the Google I am look at the Ravens 2012 Ravens salaries. I am I'm looking for it. You look for it What was the team before that the Giants? So obviously Eli was the highest paid player on the end quarterback. Yep, who is the who won before that? the Packers so I don't think Rogers had his contract. Ray Ray seven seven point seven million. Seven point seven? That's nowhere near what Terrell Suggs makes. No, it's the highest of last year. No way was their highest salary guys seven million dollars. That's impossible. 2012-13 salary was Rayrye77, Edreid72, JoeFwacko67, AnquanBolden6, RayLewis49, TerrellSuggs49, MarshallYandaGard45. That's incredible that their highest paid player was $7 million. That's kind of incredible. I know how to believe, but whatever. Torell Sugg's cap number was- What's the cap numbers? Cap numbers are higher. Ed Reed's cap number was the highest, $10 million. Not a salary. The highest one, highest cap number was- Hello, Dean. Hello, Dean. There you go. That's the number that matters. 17-9. Not the salary. Oh, there you go. 17-9. It's ridiculous. So there you go. Last year, this year, I will name the team, this year's Super Bowl team had a Hello De Nada at $18 million. Oh. There. Don't even have to go further.
00 Jake: Done. I guess. Alright. Done. Sold. Done. Alright. Alright. Good. I'm saying Rebus for $22 million a year and we'll have no other players on the team. But why? You just saw it. You could structure it so that it is the way it is. I mean look, you have to deal in realities. The guy's the best player the Jets have had on their team since Curtis Martin. So sign him. That's what I say, sign him. Figure it the fuck out. But if he comes back, you sign him, he comes back and he's half the player he was. No I don't think that's pretty good. But he's still... It's just so risky. Then you caught him! That's the...the NFL's fucked up! You just cut them! Alright, uh... You build the contract smart! Just do it so that you can cut them, injury shit. Missing time for injuries, you get...whatever, you know? Like, make it smart. What are the news you got for the week? You got a town crier? Gotta fuck you for anybody? Skip Bayless? No. Perreno, fuck you? Manish meta is my fuck you, perrenially. Is there any way- He's a douchebag. Is there any way we can figure out who's actually leaking this shit? Or not who's leaking- No, cause people make it up. They don't- It's not real. It's not leaked. It's actually made up. I am totally 100% convinced. that the writers make up the stories. Oh, I agree. They make them up. But how can we call them out for it and make sure they don't do that? You can't. It doesn't matter. All right. What else? Tim Tebow canceled his controversial speech at a church. I don't care. I literally. There was some talks about the fact that he canceled it because he knows he's getting cut and he doesn't want to ruffle any feathers with. as a free agent. I literally as an impending free agent. I literally don't care about Tim Tebow even in the least. Um, still on the team. I just want him off. They're going to trade them. I don't think they can. It just what value does have if you know he's going to get cut. I looked the Jets have a draft pick in every round. We're number nine. Yeah. That's crazy. I just never thought we'd be nine. Like nine seems so high. I thought we'd be eight. I thought we would be, I thought we'd pick ahead of the bills, but I don't know why the bills, that means that we're actually, that we are the third place team, not the fourth place team in our division, which means we have the third place schedule, not the fourth place schedule. Again, I don't, this, we won't make predictions for another nine months, but. Nine months. comments. Eight months, six months. Six months? Well we have the combine going on now. Which I don't care about. Well, but then we have the draft. We have the draft. Free agency. That's fun stuff. And then the season. And then you got like training camps and mini camps and things of that nature. That's fun. Any guys you want to like make sure we resign, there's some like... Give me a name. Mike DeVito. League minimum. Yeah, someone's going to pay him more than that. Dustin Keller.
02 Jake: Dustin Keller last year? Dustin Keller. Just Dustin Keller. Just go last year? Miss Don Hirsch barely paid? Dustin Keller. He is what he is. Dustin Keller. Yeah, I feel like Dustin Keller's important. He's gonna make like six or seven million bucks. I feel like he's important. I feel like he's an important player and he's worth the money if everything else is going along. I mean, Dustin Keller hurt, Dustin Keller without any other wide receivers, Dustin Keller with like, suck Chezz, I don't know. Again, my theory of next year is Is that this is that's the year and either turns into the greatest thing ever or it's a start fresh and you'll see Sanchez Rex Ryan gone gone gone gone gone gone. I think Brandon Moore is a Preagent, okay guard arts are important, but he's really old isn't he pretty old? Yeah, it's getting there There's a guard in the draft. That's like in some people's top ten and usually guards are just Not in the top 10. I think the Jets should just draft them. I think we need to grab a quarterback in the second third round. That's fine. I would draft the guard in the first round. Guard in the first round? Yeah. I think everybody has another defensive end. Everyone has this pick in another defensive end or edge rusher. What the fuck? We've been picking... We did good with Wilk and I have hope for Copples but... Why pick another one? Another one, I know. I mean, that means you just keep picking defense, defense, defense. How about like, boosting up the offense that was like one of the worst in the whole league? I just, it doesn't seem to me, and again, if we're not close enough to the draft and we'll have a draft special, talk about it, and I'll watch all this stuff, but it doesn't seem to me like it's, I mean the quarterbacks are just, there's no quarterbacks. Which means you're gonna find one of these... Diamonds like the Kaepernick's and the Russell I think those no this other way around no quarterbacks So the people need quarterbacks are gonna pick those out. No, no place you're gonna you're gonna There's gonna be one of these guys. All right, me from some college. You don't even know. Oh Other people cut Bradshaw cut my Bradshaw got caught by a giant. Do you want him? Who else about I'd like them for cheap, but like million bucks million bucks Yeah, one one year to your thing one year with like a million Thing strong green by the way Yeah gone gone right gone gone. We need another running back. I think you need a draft running back We drafted running backs in the last four years. You need to draft them higher. We have Bob Powell, we have Joe McKnight. Yeah, you need to... I don't want to sign Steven Jackson. I don't want to sign... I don't know. I don't like free agency, free agency running backs. Brad Shaw out there. He knows New York. Yeah, but what's his age? He's old, he's been around, but he's not that old. Like he's got some juice still in his legs. He's perennially hurt though. Yeah, his foot, he's always with a foot. He always plays. Yeah. He plays through that crap. I would really like a big bruising running back.
01 Jake: We have that, his name's Sean Green, he's big and bruising, that's all he does. No, with speed, he doesn't. There's no big bruising speed. I want- Like you want Adrian Peterson? Yeah. What do you want? I want Aaron Foster. He's not big and bruising he's slick and smooth he's Sean Alexander He's like he like glide Not old What about uh like a marsh on Lynch, oh he's britzer He's a good bruiser. Like he makes... Like Frank Gore. He's a bruiser. He's a bruiser too. You guys are good. Yeah, that's what I want. They have good lines in front of them. And they're running behind some good stuff. Yeah, well we'll see you next year. Alfred Morris. Alfred Morris. So there's guys you can get. That's what I'm saying. You need to draft these guys in the 5th, 6th round. I feel like I gave it a... You don't need to draft them running back in the 2nd round. So who you picking first round right? He said I'm picking that guard picking a corner Dorell Reavis to be this no No, Dorell be this no Listen we chuckle once we can chuckle again Beryl B. This bro be this I want this guy Bob Bobber's gonna pick Burrell Beavis Bob Bobber's in Beavis Jersey All right, well let's get going we'll come back and so we'll come back after when I guess when the frequency starts or if there's news There's any more like guys who are out by the way, you know, the Giants names are always floating around So we mentioned Bradshaw Newman Europe It's gonna be around yeah out there No, I feel like he's like pace 2.0 like oh a guy who was like really the real defensive end. He's not a linebacker Looking through my Jets news here. I don't think I want Charles Woodson Want Charles Woodson cheap and I want him playing safety. I Want them blitzing like every down you're not gonna. You're not gonna get a lot of on him blitzing every down from the slot Why can't we get Charles Woodson as a safety by the way both those safeties are free agents Landry and Bell both both three agents. Yeah, I'm restricted. I would resign Bell Yeah, only because the money like I prefer Landry, but he's gonna want I prefer both but they both play really great Yeah, they did I don't I could say that they both didn't play that great because teams were able to run the ball on us like crazy And there were some long ones Like that's true. Some pretty long runs were busted against the jet. Well, there's kind of a safety thing So the two that I think they're saying coming back are they're saying that maybe You know pace might get pulled in at a low rate. They got a they got a restructure David Harris David Harris is gonna be restructured. I would you know who I would seriously consider cutting or or The very least restructuring is Pula
02 Jake: Yeah, he makes a decent chunk of change and he was barely on the field last year to Do injury yeah Yeah, and you either you know we have to sign we drafted Kenra Gallis Like two years this will be his third year. You're either saying you fucked that up or third years time to like kind of pick it up and go, like let's go with this guy. I think Pooh as a good leader, it would be hard to lose him in the locker room and we've learned from that mistake, but they should try and restructure him. Or maybe do like a, you know, under the table, we're gonna cut you, restine you for cheap, take a pay cut type of thing. Why would he do that if he thought he could get more money? Bye. I don't know. Yeah, I don't think you would. All right, we got to wrap it up because I got 4% battery life. That's it for, we'll come back in a week, two weeks maybe? Come back with another podcast. Yeah?
