09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. Longs running New York Jets podcast on the entire interwebs. At 114 episodes, it is safe to say that. That's a lot of episodes. I'm Jake and joining me today, just drinking his bit of water, no beer today. Taking it easy. Is Justin. Justin, how are you doing? Doing great. Yeah? Yeah, I got my fix for NFL preseason football. Can I just point out something quickly? Go for it. You did something you never said you would do. I never said I would do something. Yeah, you said you would never do something and you did it. What did I do? You said you'd never watch a football game with me. That's bullshit. I'm with you. Yeah. That's true. And you did it. That's because it was meaningless, so it was okay. Oh, okay. I didn't want to point it out until the podcast. I actually waited. That was a... I really... I actually sincerely don't want to watch a regular season jet game with you on television. I feel like you're just absolutely insane. Yeah. Like, you lift yourself out of your body. Yeah. Yeah. and your body gets taken over by an evil demon. That's happened a couple times. And it's probably from just years of being a Jeff fan and getting beaten. It's also because I, when I'm at the game, I'm in with 80,000 people. Oh, that's perfectly fine. I love going to the games. I love being there with you because that's the atmosphere that I want to experience. But you haven't watched a game with me at home. You've watched games with me at bars. Where at bars, I feel... Which is terrible. It's absolutely awful. But I feel like it's more... akin to being at a game, you're literally embarrassing. I have been embarrassing. You're embarrassing. I know. That's why, you know, it's how I feel about you the other 364 days a year. I get it. All right. All right. We have, so we have an agenda today. We're gonna talk about the game one preseason game one season game one. By the way, NFL network is like crack. You are addicted. This is my first year with NFL Network. I've never had it before. It will never be if you will never have it yet. I now have a table system that carries the NFL Network. I have it. I will never be without it again. They show every freaking game. Yep. They show all these fantasy preview shows, top 10 countdowns. I could just put the NFL Network on and I'm good. They have a lot of content. I watch literally every game. Yeah. That is sad, but true. Yes, it is. Once you get to like the third quarter of some of these games, it's kind of hard to watch, I will say, but even the Jack game was kind of hard to watch in the third and fourth quarter,
01 Jake: but we obviously stuck with it. We stuck with it. Even no matter how. We'll review that first game. Yeah. And... You're good and the bad, the ugly. Yep. Then we'll talk about Plex. We'll talk about, because Plex practices, we'll talk about... Aaron Mabin being signed, talked about some other people leaving, and then we're gonna do our two, well, we're gonna talk about sort of our new stuff that we're doing this year. One is which is gonna be talking about fantasy. We'll kind of work through it on the podcast because why not? What we're gonna do for fantasy stuff this year. And we're also gonna talk about our upcoming games, meaning the games that you and I are going to do. We should probably also talk about the Jets game that's coming up. Because there's a game on Sunday that we're going to. It's a tail game. We're being regular season formed. Just got to bust off the run. Stretching? Yeah, stretch. I got a new grill. I got to get that new grill going. I've lost some weight for the tailgate. You have. It's like a game to back. Alright, so the bad news is we've lost the game. Good news is we don't care. Well, okay, so let's talk about the game. Jets, Houston, Texans, Monday Night Game, Monday Night on a preseason, not a big deal, but they still made a hype. Funny thing is we sat there before the game and we did mock drafts. We did a fantasy mock draft. Which we will talk about in a little bit. Not a really great gauge. No, never. What we always talk about, what do you want to get out of the preseason? No injuries. You want to see some players, see them go up or down, see who's good and who's not. You want to get out of there with injuries. Well, we've already failed that because the backup... Well, a couple people didn't go. Plex didn't go down in the game. Uh, either did, um... Well, Mangle didn't go because of his stinger. Right. And Brinnell didn't play, but he was there. But he has pinky, pinky issues. He was there. Yep, he was there. That's fine. If he's standing on the sideline the whole season, I'll be happy. That is true. And so it was really just the Sanchez McElroy. game. That was it. Yeah. And, but I think we learned a few things. So again, it's not really about the outcome of the game. And we're not, we're not picking fools and knights because, you know, it's not really, no point. Sanchez played, I think, two drives in the one quarter. Two series. Two series. You look good. I think he looks funny. Six for seven, I think. You look good. Six for seven. Always look good. Holmes caught the ball. Mason looked good. Maine's caught the ball. Sean Green looked good. Sean Green, you look good. You look good. John Connor. John Connor looked great. You look great. Oh man, was he knocking people off their asses. Well let's tell you what, so they got away with unhurt, but we did get our back up center hurt. Bob Turner got hurt. Yeah. Broke a leg out for 8 to 10 weeks. No good. No good. So that's... He lines up in some weird spots for us. Yes he does. He comes in and like... Number 75 is eligible. And like lines up as a tight end and stuff. So, oh well. Not good. And you know why that's really not good? Because logic cost is not good. Oh, that's the other thing we learned in this game.
00 Jake: Absolutely terrible. We gave up seven sacks the entire game. Not that they were all his fault. We had a lot of running. But Sanchez got sacked twice in two series. Not good. Not good. Not good. Logic costs equals not very good. He just, I mean he's a project. When you say a project like, I think you just got the big box of Legos and with no manual. Well they were playing him at guard. He wasn't playing well. Nope. Then they moved him out to the right tackle and he got just completely destroyed. Not good. If he's on the field, we're in bad shape. We're going to do a swing out to the opposite side. It's amazing that when offensive linemen play great, you don't notice it. Yeah. When they play bad, God does it notice it all. Oh, yeah. And that's a testament to how well the Jets offensive line usually plays. Like with Mangle, D-Brick, Moore, who didn't play. With those three guys, Rock Salad, you don't even notice it. Unless there's a huge block out, a pullout block to free somebody, but you don't even notice it. When they got a guy like Vlad Jocas in there and you get your quarterback creamed, you're like, oh fuck, that guy's fucking terrible. Yeah, and I feel like this was happening last year too. Well, he's a rookie last year. Yeah, but I feel like he was the guy... He's the best person because of his body. He's a big fucking dude. He's an ugly motherfucker. He's an ugly motherfucker, but I mean, we love you guys, but don't let our quarterback get killed. Thanks. So yeah, so then in comes the second. So we learned that. What else are we learning? We got anything about, you know, the new kickback rules and effects? Yeah. You, uh... Seemed like it hurt us a little bit. Well, as far as returning, as far as covering, I think we got that covered. Yeah. We're pretty good there. I think Westoff was probably telling him, Don't kick it for touchbacks, because we can... If you kick it three yards in to the end zone or two yards into the end zone, they're gonna run it out and we're gonna tackle them at the 15. Right. So do that. Right. I think, I have a feeling he was like trying to do that. Well, they've got to learn. I mean, it's new rules. It's, you know... I can imagine that they can boom it through the end zone if they want to. Nick Folks got a pretty good leg. Right. Um, Curly... Looks like he's got some potential as a returner. Mm-hmm. It'll be interesting to see if that's really his job, or if someone else will have that job moving forward. I don't know who that someone else would be, whether it be Joe McKnight, or I don't even know who else they would even try there. Can you think of anyone else, Kyle Wilson, maybe? Yeah. I don't really know, but. All right. Feel like that's Curly's job. I feel like yeah, I feel like it's someone will come out of camp who's got it They'll give it to him and West off when you beat up on it, but that's a good really look them. Okay as a receiver I mean he looked about as good as Brad Smith is as a receiver There were a couple balls you should have caught right? He was getting open, which is a good thing And I was pleasantly surprised with the way that the ones played.
03 Jake: They looked organized, they looked well put together. I thought the defense played very well with the caveat that Ariane Foster nor Andre Johnson were on the field. So they had a job on there and he looked horrible, but... Yeah, they're two best players, not on the field. I don't know if they threw at Cromartie or Rebus. Right. I don't think they did. At one point I said have they thrown to a receiver. No. It had been a while and they hadn't thrown to a receiver. I mean granted they didn't have Andrew Johnson on the field. So I mean but that's Rebus' comment. I've heard he's pretty good. Right and they didn't throw to a receiver at all. They were throwing at tight ends. They were throwing to running backs. It was sort of working but. are ones I feel like beat their ones. So that's all I really care about from a winning the game perspective because they could lose 40 to 30 if the ones won you know 10-3. That's fine with me. So to me Fairly successful game not too many, you know, Sanchez didn't bring his leg. It was a backup guard center. Right fine. Yeah You know Homes didn't didn't twist an ankle. I think the big thing is they're not barely played. There's just fine There's not as much rust as I would have expected from the offseason CBA not being around It seemed like they were kind of kicking in there and it was good. Just get out there get your, you know, get a little sweat going and then get off the field. Well, the defense had virtually everyone back. Yeah. The only new guy in there was Mo Wilkerson. That was it. Yep. And DeVito looked good. Pua looked good. Wilkerson, you know, couldn't really tell. Right. Maybe he looked good. I couldn't really... No sack, but he's not gonna get a lot of sacks, I don't think. And for the most part, the ones played really well. So I was pleased with that. Yeah, I think it was, I mean, again, so hard to judge, because you know they're not... There's all this stuff about whether they are, what they're doing, whether they're playing, what game plans. You know that was a very vanilla. Let's get out there. Let's throw some balls. Like, almost a glorified... Jimbo Leonard was out there. That was great. Nice to see him back. The only preseason game that you can really make any judgments about is game 3. And even then, it's still a very vanilla game plan. There is a game plan, but it's vanilla, and we're playing the Giants, and we're playing them in the regular seasons. So you're not going to see an extravagant game plan. They're not going to show them anything. So what I would, the only thing I would have liked to see, if you, you know, give me the list. Yeah, I'd like to see a score of touchdown with the ones. One should be able to score a touchdown. They were driving and they really should have scored that first drive and they scored a field goal instead. The problem is, this is sort of, you know, we were 31st in the league in the red zone last year. Yeah, I think that's a good segue into our second topic, which is the Plaxical Burres practicing. Speaking of red zone... Because this guys are... Answer to that red zone issue. He should be So as funny as talking to a Giants fan today about it and he's like so you took you got plaques from us
01 Jake: And I was like yeah, I got it. See how I did plaques not plaques. Yeah, I did finally got I got it Well, it's preseason. I know you're just I gotta I adjust so got plaques and he's like he's great He's good. He's not like well, you know yet to be determined like he's caught one ball in practice so far and we're 25% of the way through training camp, so 20%. So, you know, to me, it's not like, it's not a home run yet. I've heard everything from, it's gonna be better. Adam Shine on SNY was saying on Jets Nation, he was like, listen, we'll get Edward's numbers last year. Seven touchdowns, whatever, there was 52 catches or something like that. He's like, yeah, Pax will get that. Yeah, that's it. Is he gonna get those numbers? And so if he gets those numbers, it's an upgrade. You're like, okay, you know, that's a good way of looking at it. Seven touchdowns is not a ton for a 16 game season. No, that's a good number, but it's not, you know, it's not extravagant. No, he said you're gonna get an upgrade off of that number, but he can do that. And therefore, you got him. You know, he's practicing. I guess that he's spraying the ankle. He's practicing. Let's just hopefully it's a very slow progression because the guy has not played football for two years. Your body's got to take two months to get back into like real shape. Yes, he can do all the sit-ups and crunches and whatever he can do, but like feel football speed, I just hope they kind of move him up slowly and slowly and slowly. So coming up in this game Sunday, which we're talking about, I don't want to see him a lot. I want to see him out there a little bit, but then I put him on the shelf. I don't know. Your thoughts? I'd like to see him more than that. That's my... I'd like to see him play at least the first quarter. However many... Like, however many possessions that is, I'd hope at least two, maybe three. Really? Eh, I guess that would be fun. I just wanna see him out there. Like, I feel like, alright, take the training wheels off and like... Yeah, but if he hurts himself... Well, then he's gonna hurt himself. Regardless. If he hurts himself, he hurts himself. So, uh... So that's interesting news. I think the other interesting news, it's been a while... It's hidden the wave. You don't think this is a really big deal. No, I don't. But the Jets signed Aaron Mabin, Great. who I actually remember getting drafted. It was two years ago. It was the 11th pick. I didn't remember that. I looked that up. But it's supposed to be his big pass rusher. Great. You signed Vernon Gholston back. Well, as we talked— How many career sacks does this guy have? Zero. Exactly the amount of Gholston. Yeah, but you know how much we pay Gholston? $20 million. You know what we're paying this guy? Probably $1.50. Like, taxi money. Let's just bring him in. The reason I like it is that this is the first time Rex gets to pick... Rex didn't pick Golston. Golston was given to him by Mangini. Rex gets to pick this guy. That's an experiment. If it turns out to be great, you know, he had...
01 Jake: He showed great stuff. Is he a sense of anger or a linebacker? I forgot what he was trying to be on. I think he's... He's a linebacker. Well... Jamal Westerman didn't look too special the other night, so maybe he'll push him a little bit. I mean, he's obviously not going to be like... He's not going to be a starter. ...a starter over Thomas or Pace, who've been around and probably used an upgrade at some point over one of those two guys. Um, I was actually speaking to Brian Thomas, I was surprised, I was trying to think who, after they got rid of um, or let Kottree go and Ellis go, like who is it that's the most tenured jet. And I, I mean maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's Brian Thomas. I think he could be right. Yeah, pretty interesting. Not really. Yeah, I think so. I don't know, I like it. I'm excited for the news. Glad you're excited for this script. Other thing that's not on the agenda, they had the Jets season ticket holder call today with Rex Ryan. Yeah, your conference call. I had my conference call. You and Rexie? Me and Rexie. I didn't get to ask a question. Was Mr. T there? Mr. No. out. It was Eric Allen, the guy, the podcasting guys all over the place. I guess they're like PR guy. Not the longest running podcast. No, no, no. I don't think he does podcasts, but he does all their stuff. And then it was him with Rex, and Rex, you know, there's questions about why everyone on the road, why everyone on the road more at home. I think it's a good question. You have good answers. Yeah, you did. Rex. Thanks. It's interesting, even when he's answering fans, and he was just answering fans as he's digging holders, he was answering straight up, just like he said. He said, listen, I got you to the AFC, we got to the AFC Championship twice, we gotta get by there. That's our stop. We're going from there to get to the next level. That's everything we're doing to get there. He talked about you know tight end saying whether you know whether it's something as a little bit of a that guy Looked good in the first game cover that he didn't look bad. Look good. Yeah Yeah, I don't know if he had like maybe four but it looked like a lot another little old pieces of news We got just catching up with old people going to old teams. Kottree signs with Steelers. The interesting piece is that he signed for much less money than he would have signed if he had stayed with the Jets. We were off in 1.8. He ended up signing. Can you say offering him? Wasn't he under contract? It's not like he was a free agent. We cut him. We cut him and then offered him money? Well, I think we cut him because whatever he was due to earn was too much. So that's one of the ways they do it. They cut you and then they offer... it's like with Ellis. They cut you and they put you in the free agency and then they say, okay, we'll get you back. Ellis was a free agent. We didn't cut him. Okay. He was no longer under contract. But was Khatri a free agent? No.
00 Jake: So we cut him. Yes. But I think we offered him like 1.8 to come back. Why would we do that? I don't know. That's what I, that's what I, that's my understanding from the news reports was that we... I feel like your understanding is not... Is not there? Is not there. It's gone. I feel like they just cut him because he didn't want to be there. Maybe he was due to make 1.8 billion? No, because the article is talking about he, he took less money than he could have taken. if he stayed with the Jets. If he had re-signed with the Jets. So they cut him and then offered him money to come back? Yeah. What are we paying Derek Mason? I don't know. I haven't read that number yet. I have to imagine it's less. Less than 1.8? Yeah. He's better than Kottree. I just watched that game. They're like sort of the same guy, except he's just got... I feel like he's just more dependable, been around longer. Yeah, I mean... I think he's been around longer. I don't know if he's more dependable. Kuchri is pretty dependable. Kuchri dropped so many balls last year. It's annoying. Well, so did Holmes. You want him on your team. Kuchri was fooled a couple times for dropping passes. Alright. That Green Bay game where we didn't score touchdown, like, I feel like... That's true. He dropped like three balls in that game. Oh, he's gone. Fuck him. Fuck him. Uhhhhhh... Alright. I'll fuck him. I like Kuchri. But I can't cheer for him now. You know nice on Steelers He's enough, you know, let's segue into a little bit of fancy like in fancy world He's gone. There's so many receivers over there. I don't know what value he brings. Maybe kickoff return I don't know what is he what what did they what value does he bring to them? I feel like he's gonna be a backup for backups. I feel like they go for wide more than you think And I also feel like Hines Ward's kinda done. So I feel like he's probably there three, maybe there four to receive. I don't know. Oh, that's what he was for us. He was three. Yeah, he was three. Sometimes two, almost one. I feel like he's three slash four. Alright, so let's go to our... Fantasy section, so what are we gonna do? I don't know we're gonna call this fantasy something. Let's let's give a little name Let's give a little background. So I've never played fancy. I've never played it I've done pick games and I've done all that for years years. I've run one for ten years in a row But I've always said I can't play fantasy because I'm too much of a Jets fan Homer and I would never be able to root for a player that was not that was playing against my team. So, or yes. So that, so it's a scenario of that you had last year twice, Tom Brady's your quarterback and in your fantasy league but he's playing against your Jets and that just feels odd to me. But I got sucked into this stupid show, The League, on FX. Why do you call that a stupid show? Well, it's one of the greatest shows on television. It's stupid because it sucked me into this whole fancy football bullshit. And what I'm really enamored, child please. What I'm more enamored with is the head to head, the competition, the smack-talk, the trophy, as you know I've been building the art trophy for weeks now.
00 Jake: I think the final parts are coming tomorrow. So that all is more exciting to me than the actual fantasy piece. Although I've learned in the last two weeks or three weeks as I've been really studying up. I read fancy you guys gave me And I read it You know it's there, there is a it's not just a bunch of numbers and whatever There is a little bit of under there is an understanding of football and I think that it will help me be even a better I'm a football person, not sure if I'm a Jets fan, but I can't be any better Jets fan. I'm like at a 10. At a 10, I'm a 10.5. So I can't be any better a Jets fan. So I think as a, but as a overall football knowledge, it'll probably expand as I look out to other things. So, so we're going to do something. What do you think we should do? I think for today, we should just talk about the Jets and their fantasy value and who on the Jets team is worth drafting and where you might want to draft them. And then as we go, we can sort of talk about how many people actually find it interesting to hear about other people's leagues. I think maybe we should just do like a... Well that was how the whole stupid show is that we just said was the greatest show ever. Yeah, that's a comedy show. We're a comedy show. You're a broadcaster. I'm a comedian. I'm a comedian. Alright, but you're not funny. I am extremely funny. Funny looking. I think we should do like a start or done type of thing where we just pick a couple guys a week or... or something along those lines. That's one, yeah. Sutter Dead Rules, I've played that for years on another forum, which are you pick one player per week, never can pick them twice, you get whatever fantasy points they have for that week. Yeah, well, maybe we'll do that. But that's across all leaves. Maybe we'll just do like a quick fantasy report who played well. the week before, something like that. Whatever, we'll figure this shit out as we do it. Anyway, let's talk about the Jets. Not a lot of fantasy value. Not a whole lot. The defense, one of the top three defenses. You don't generally play the defense until way late, right? Sanchez, not much of a fantasy value there. Not even as a backup. up. I mean, people aren't really even picking and saying, he's just sitting there in a waiver wire. As far as running backs, pretty sure you want Sean Green. At this point, he's going to be the starter. But he's not a top tier. Top tier. He's probably like a. Not even top 20. He might be teetering towards the end of the 15 to 25 range. Probably like a fifth or sixth round pick, depending on how many. Right. people are in your league. If it's a 16 team league, you might go earlier, obviously. Antonio Holmes, he's been, you know, probably around 20. I've seen him being picked up, right. If you're going for your second or third receiver, he's a good shot. Yeah, he's a second receiver,
00 Jake: maybe a third. Plax is one of those flyers that you might want to take in the 10th, 11th, 12th round. He's likely to score some touchdowns, so that's always a good thing. And if he does what if that's the kind of thing you're playing in. Heller is sort of towards the bottom end of a starting tight end. So if you're in like a 12-team league, you might be starting, but as like the 12th best tight end in that league, I could think of quite a few tight ends that are better than that. It's a little strange. You got Nick Volk, first round pick. Whatever. Kicker. He's fine. If you want to take a kicker in the last round, you... I think Falcon, whatever, he's behind. It's interesting that a team that's been to the AFC East Championship twice, two years in a row, won games. The AFC East Championship? So the AFC Championship. Is there a championship game for the AFC East? There should be. I'm going to start it this year. It's like a true game. It doesn't have a lot of fancy value in it. No, it's great. Well, we're a team. Yeah. We built on defense. It's really based on defense. And our quarterback is still young usually, you know. I mean, that's it's not necessarily true. I mean, there's guys like Calvin Johnson, who's one of the best receivers in the game. And in fantasy, he's generally listed as one or two. And he doesn't really have a quarterback. I mean, he's got Stafford who's played like eight games in his career. Just read in the in the captive eight that the top three player play top three NFL players making money this year. It's Salaries out in terms of no the money they're making overall this year overall. Yeah, I'm being paid paid in 23 Stafford 18 Brady like set 18 a bird. Yeah for what I never see Stafford in commercials or anything Oh, it was like salary salary, like from salary salary. Gotcha. Yeah. I don't know bonus science. Oh, yeah I mean he's the number one overall pick as a quarterback in the years where number one overall six would make sense A lot of people getting ready to do their drafts. Yeah, and I'm probably doing mock drafts We did a couple mock you want to do a mock first round you and I can do just a real quick. We just alternate And we picked 10 guys. We'll do a quick one through ten. Well now let's just talk about what sort of strategies. I think people were thinking like... That was a good idea. No! No! It was! Let's just do one! Let's give some people... Where are you picking this here? What's our league? Our league is the Sportsful Fantasy League. Yeah. It's your league that you just started. You just started? And in that league, I am the co-commissioner. We're commissioner and co-commissioner, because we do everything together in life. That's a little sad. We live across the street from each other. It's true. You know, we own our own company together. We are co-commissioners. This is getting a little spooky. This is really gay. OK. All right. Not a bad thing.
01 Jake: No, it's happy. Happy. Moving right along. So we have the Sportsville Fantasy League. It's a 12-team keeper league where you can keep three players moving forward. We haven't decided exactly how the keeper process is going to work. Nope. But keeper league points per reception league with a flex. So one quarterback, two running backs, two receivers, a tight end, a flex, running back receiver tight end. Yep. Kicker and defense special teams. Yep. I think I got them all. You did. So you're picking 10. I'm picking 10. What do you hope to pick? 10 out of 12. There's a lot of new people in this league. There is. This is actually good for you. I kind of want Adrian Peterson to be there in 10. I mean I could see someone be like, I'm a Browns fan and I'm picking Culficoy first. Well, let's also. I'm picking Chad Henney. Let's open up the covers a little bit. My wife's always still in the league. Your wife is picking one. And she's picking one. She got the first pick. So... So there's been lots of discussion in the house. She won't almost tell me. But I'll tell you, she's not high on Peterson. I know. I know who she's picking. Well, no. Hopefully she changes her mind. Well, I don't think it's a terrible pick. I don't think it's a great pick. I don't think it's a great pick. I don't think Jamal Charles in the first round is... I don't think that's that terrible. In the first pick. Thank you. He's not first pick. It's defensible. So I'm picking four. You are. And I'm basically hoping... I love the four spots. I actually think it's great. I'd rather have three because three guarantees you top three running back. I think the four slot is a nice slot. I think it guarantees me a lot because I know the first two are frittatas. So here's the thing. So I think one of them is going to go for like... Before the draft, I don't know if I want to discuss my strategy with you. Although we do pick far enough away from each other that it sort of doesn't matter. I know what you're doing at four. What am I doing at four? There's four running backs. You're gonna pick one. So whichever one's there, you're gonna take. I'm kinda hoping, I'm kinda hoping, cause I, well I think Johnson will be there. I think I'm getting Johnson. I think that's what I'm getting. I think you are. I think that's what I'm getting. You have to pray he gets to camp. Yeah, I'm not really worried if he gets to camp. I think you're getting Chris Johnson. I think I'm getting Chris Johnson. Yeah, you got a lot of choices. I'm gonna. I mean, there are some noobs in the league, so I'm... You're gonna end up someone to value. I probably will. I think half the people in the league have never played fancy. Right. I mean, initially going in, my thought is that I'm gonna end up going wide receiver or quarterback. That's stupid, though. You're gonna have a great running back sitting there for you. I feel like they're gonna be gone. Nope. It all depends on who's there. You're gonna end up with a top five running back. I... Find it hard to believe because the first four people are going to pick running backs. You don't know who number two is going to pick. I don't know who number two is. Daniel. Oh. He's going to pick like... Who's he a fan of? He's not a fan of anybody. He's like making this a mathematical equation. Oh, wasn't he going to pick a running back? No, he's going to pick. Yeah, he will pick. He'll pick a... He's making it a mathematical equation. He thinks that, yes, that you pick a quarterback because they can make you the most points per game. He's not doing the whole... He's not then putting a... He's not understanding that between Vic, if he's the number one quarterback in the league this year.
02 Jake: He's not doing a weighted projection. He's not. He's just doing a projection. Alright. Anyway, I feel as if quarterback wide receiver is where I'm going to go at 10, but it's all going to be up to these newbies in front of me to see if somebody... you know, if Tony Romo gets picked number seven, you know, like, we'll see. Would you stay quarterback wide receiver? Because you got 10, so you can snake right around and have another pick. I'm going to swing around and pick 11, 12, 13, 14. I'm going to get 15. So I have 10 and 15. Again, it's all going to depend. I might go receiver-receiver. I'm thinking that that's my strategy. Are you concerned at all that you're going to end up, you know, receive a receiver by the time it comes back to you? Which is then you're going to end up with like... I'm actually not concerned. I'm thinking I'm going to pick a lot of running backs in like the five through nine round and just try and hit one. Okay. Peyton Hillis like last year. Oh yeah. Or Arian Foster last year. Oh, you're going to try to hit a guy like that. Hit a guy. Okay. Just hit it. Like that. Like a guy who, you know, you draft in those rounds and then boom, they just blow up. Like Blunt or something. Yeah, like last year you could add Liguera Blunt, Peyton Hillis, who was undrafted, Liguera Blunt, undrafted. Aaron Foster went in like the ninth, tenth, twelfth round. Like these guys who were sort of just sitting out there. I'm kind of thinking that that's how I'm gonna go about it right now. Not sure. It'll all play out in front of me as the draft is going on. I can't sort of say what I'm gonna exactly do because it's hard to say what other people are doing. And you're mocked where you ended up. I've only done one mock where I picked 10th in a 12 team. And I ended up going quarterback receiver. You had Rogers. I went Rogers and I ended up with, you know, a halfway decent team. Because I ended up going with Rogers and then a receiver on the way back. And then I ended up with having a few decent running backs. nothing special, but I was considering it out of points per reception league. So I was thinking about that as I was drafting and thinking, well, points per reception league, I kind of want a guy who's going to catch the ball 7, 8, 9, 10 times a game, because that's a lot of points. And Rodgers is, to me, the best quarterback. He's definitely the best quarterback, but it's the weather you're going to pick in the first round. Well, I mean, there's the Vic experiment. I feel like overall... in the whole entire league, Aaron Rodgers is going to score the absolute most points. Now I understand that's not, you know, it's all relative. Will the second best quarterback score the difference between the best running back and the second best running back? I get the whole theory. Yeah. But I feel like if you can get the guy who's going to score the absolute most points in the league, why not get them? Well the theory is that the There's the top tier of quarterbacks, but then the people behind them. while they don't score that high, they won't score that low. It's not the drop-off that's high off the running back.
00 Jake: The cliff for running backs is like, great, great, great, great, great, great, unless you get one of these guys you pick up who's just amazing and like comes out. But it's like great, great, great, great, and then turns into just crud. And it's not really the running backs, it's more the teams and what the team does with the running back. And that's why Adrian Peterson is such a big deal is because they use him for everything. And so he gets... receptions, he gets, you know, touchdowns, he gets, you know. So again, as a rookie and as having read all this stuff, I'm like, oh, I've got all these things in my head. Here we go. Here's my team. I have it up in front of me. I'll just read this off for everybody. Now I'll give you a round, round by round, what I did, and then I'll tell you what Jake did. So I picked Aaron Rodgers first, then I picked Larry Fitzgerald, then I picked Ahmad Bragshaw, then I picked Sean Green. Homer. It's not bad, those first words. Homer, pick. Uh, fifth, I picked Fred Jackson. Sixth, I picked Sidney Rice. Then I went to Felix Jones. Um, Roy Williams. Greg Olsen. Danny Amendola. Then it sort of falls off after that. I'll just stick with that top ten. You my friend, yeah my first mock draft ever. Aaron Foster in the first round. I was happy to have met four. Drew Brees. Yeah, that was a mistake. That was a mistake too. San Antonio Holmes. That was a home. Jeremy Macklin. Yeah. Making his way back into camp. Good. Rob Gronkowski. Tony Gonzalez, you went tight end, tight end. Crazy. Then you went Pierre Thomas, Lee Evans, and the Cowboys defense. And I'll just cut it off there. Yeah. So last night. I feel like my team is better. Yes. It was my first mock draft ever. So now I'm doing. And you mocked me for going QB wide receiver. Yeah. Last night I thought I did a little bit better. I did Charles at four. Oh, you got your fourth pick thing. Yeah, there's always the fourth pick. Well, that's what we did. We joined. At our spot. At our spot so that we could do it for real. So last night I got Charles at four, then Blunt on the way back at 21. Then I went Dwayne Bowe. Then I went, then I got the quarterback, so again I got Ryan. So in the fourth round I picked quarterback. And then I rounded out with, I got Harvin, I don't know, that seems like kind of like now back like really? And I ended up with Gonzalez again for some reason. Jonathan Stewart. for my kind of flex position there. Ended up with the Giants defense, wasn't bad. And cutler's my backup. I think you'll end up starting cutler over Matt Ryan, to be honest. Really? That team, I think so. I think you could have picked someone else and just stuck with cutler. Anyway, so that's it. I mean, I'm excited. I think we'll figure out how we really want to do this in the podcast and you know Give us some feedback. Did you like that segment? Because we can just do that every week
00 Jake: We can just do it if you stopped halfway through then you're not hearing me tell you to tell me So we'll ask of next week. We'll ask under Twitter. We'll ask if you're Liking that. Alright, if we talk a little bit about the game coming up We do have a game coming up. We're playing Cincinnati. Yeah. Right? We're going to kill them. Again, it doesn't matter. Yeah, but I thought it was just a game that there's absolutely no chance. Because this is a game that I would, that I will be upset if the ones don't get out to a 10-0 The one should score a touchdown and if Cincinnati should not score, we should probably turn them over. ...defence should absolutely dominate rookie quarterback, no receivers. they're gonna be absolutely horrible horrible really bad like I'm in a league I'm in a pool where you pick like They give you a... they break the the the league up into new divisions. They break out divisions of four. Right. And and they put like the top four teams, the next four teams, the next four teams, the next four teams into these divisions that he makes up. So, like, you know, the top division is, you know, I think it's like New England, Green Bay, um, Steelers. The Steelers and Atlanta, I think, is the top four. Mm-hmm. You have to choose who's gonna have the best record out of those four. Well, Cincinnati's in the last one, and I'm not picking them. I'm actually gonna pick Buffalo. Buffalo, they're in that last spot. Anyway, so yeah, it's hard to say these games. I took preseason. Yeah I don't want to I just want to I want same thing. I want to ever preseason game I want to build see some get season people play. Yeah, I want to see some plaques. He's some plaques He's some rookie some Sean Green. I want to see some terminator and I want to see the defense the the starting defense dominate And I want to get a good grill. Wouldn't mind if Mo Wilkerson had to play. get that out of the way early. Okay. Sounds good. Yeah. We'll be there. And we're going to tailgate. And we'll... I'm really more excited about the tailgate for our preseason. It's hard to get to Sunday night game. Interesting. Yeah. I hope it's a nice day. All right. So I just wanted to ask... So this year I think we're going to do our Stutter Dud, which is a new game we're going to play. Yeah. Let's do that. Maybe we'll open it up. We should open it up. How do we open that up? A Google Sheet? We could do that. Open it up. Maybe just create a Google Sheet and anyone, you know, just go in there and put in your pick. Put in or a tweet to us or something? Yeah, or something. Anyway, could be done. We'll do our thrown picks, which we do every year. And then we'll also do our Jet Kingdom pick-up, which other people can join. So we'll reboot the Jet Kingdom pick-up, which is just a straight pick-up. We didn't do with points, we did with... We did with spread, I think. We did with spread, okay. Bye. Which I think everybody by one game.
01 Jake: Ugh. Still a victory. It is a victory. A small one. So all that will be on JetKingdom.com when we get it up and running. Twitter.com slash justjetkingdom here for Justin. Twitter.com slash JetKingdom here for me. We're on Facebook.com where we push all this stuff. Facebook.com slash JetKingdom. And we're in iTunes. So subscribe to iTunes. And if you want to advertise with us, you can do that. We will make a segment. We will make a segment sponsored by you. We set it by Geico. Yeah, Geico. Awesome stuff. Oh, not Geico. Why not? Why not? Well, I'm... No one from GEICO is listening to this that's gonna just email advertising at JetKingdom.com and be like, here you go, let's let you say our name. No. I'm just saying you could. Anyone out there. Moes. Moes Sporting Good. If you have a bar in Long Island somewhere and you want to sponsor it, we don't care. We're gonna make them up. If you don't sponsor it, we're just gonna come up. Moes Bar & Grill. Moes Tavern in Lake Massachusetts. Yeah, Springfield, Massachusetts. solutions. Well, no, there's a Mo's Tavern in Lee, Massachusetts. No, I'm just making up a fake one. Yeah, but that Springfield might or might not be in Massachusetts. It might or might not be. I always thought it was New York. But anyway, uh, all right. And then that's it. Till next week, we'll come back. We'll do a game review again. We'll talk about, hopefully, no one else getting hurt. And we'll get close to the first one, first podcast where we will then, of the season where we'll pick all the season, winners losers and pick all the way down to the Super Bowl. You came close last year. You had Jets Packers in the Super Bowl last year. I did. I was one. You were one off, but then you had the Packers winning. I had the Packers winning the Super Bowl... Over the Jets. Over the Jets. So I was right. That's really close. Yeah. That's pretty good. So those two things are good. Before the season starts, to pick the Super Bowl winners, pretty good. It is pretty good. Pretty good. Pretty good. Alrighty, alright, well until next week and as always, this is Jake signing off saying, Go Jats! Thanks for watching!
