09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away! Jake: Welcome to the Jake Keenan podcast, as long as we're running New York Jets podcast. period. I'm Jake and joining me in his fresh cut looking really like looking good. Are you looking like well no it's a sliding scale. Oh come on. Is Justin. I choose to shave my head. Yes. Unlike you who you don't have a choice. I do not have a choice half my head shaves itself. Well, it's Monday and we're doing a podcast. What does that mean? That means a win. So I'm just happy and let's let's out. We're out. I'm out. We got lots to talk about, but we're going to basically go over Jenna today. We're going to talk about the just versus cults, recaps, injuries, nights and play of the game. Talk a little bit what the other crazy things that went on yesterday. Some big injuries around the league and. off the league as I know us or you Yankee fans are upset about basically like half the best players in the world are out now and then we're gonna discuss the I don't know we'll see what's up with the picks and stuff like that cuz I don't man I don't even want to talk about we're gonna talk about it Let's talk about the good things I always save some of this stuff for the next one Well, cuz then we're actually do our pick All right, Jess versus cults we win Game over so here so here's my thing. All right, let's throw some stats out there Wait, I want to do I want to do that number stat that we like. Oh, yeah, we've adopted 51 We've adopted the 51 number on this podcast. We love this number. I heard it worked. Oh, it totally worked It worked this time. I don't know. I'm looking at it for the first time. What do you have to ran the ball 44 times and they completed 11 12 passes 12 okay, so that puts us up to 56 56 that equals a victory That's a victory listen. This is this is a good stat That's a fun one. That's like a number geeky good stat. No here's here's a good stat. What's a good stat? Here's a good stat. I think 56 is a good stat six six for 12 and third down conversion third on confusion rushing rushing rushing 252 yards rushing is a stat opposed to 41. That's like, I feel like this is the every game reversed against us. Like it's usually like, oh, the Jets rush for 60 and the other team rushed for 222. We ran for 252 yards. That is a stat. Sean Green, three touchdowns. That is a stat. Here's another stat. 56. 35 to nine.
00 Jake: time. That's a stat. That's a score, isn't it? That's a stat and a score. That's a destruction. That's just awesome. So here's, here's, let's just look back on the season so far. Here's what we've done. Against two crappy teams, we beat the fuck out of them. Who are the crappy teams that we beat the fuck out of? Bills and Colts. I'm not sure the Colts are crappy. Crappy. I'm not sure they're crappy. Last week was a phenomenon for them, whatever, they're crappy. No, I think their defense is a little crappy and also beat up. I don't think their offense is crappy. I don't think it's that good. I think they're beat up. I think they were a little... We got them on a good week. So here's the thing. I need this podcast, Hype or Hope, and I'm kind of like... I'm gonna ask you straight up. Are you on the hype or on the hope? Well, I'm still exactly where I thought we were gonna be seven weeks ago. No, no, no. Hype or hope? I've always been with hope. You think this is hope, not hype? You feel like this is a true testament of who the Jesuits are. Yeah? It's the first week of September. On October 15th, what's the Jets record gonna be? Three and three. Justin, what do you think the Jets chances of winning the Super Bowl are? I'm picking them to win the Super Bowl. Alright, so you still win the bandwagon. I haven't lost yet. I haven't missed. No remists. I have not missed. First, I'm gonna make a bold statement. Alright. Bold it up. losing Holmes might have been the best thing possible for this offense. I was mouthing it as you said it although I was saying the best thing because now that Keller's back and I know he didn't really do anything yesterday as far as catching the ball I don't maybe one catch one catch doesn't matter he's on the field he's a threat on the field Hill. Hill brothers. I'm calling it the Hill brothers. Hill brothers. Hill on the field. It's more about just being on the field. Three touchdowns. Three touchdowns. More than a quarter of the way through. And he's missed three games. Well that's part of it. I think about that. He has three touchdowns. He's missed three games. I think he's on the field. is the thing that, you know, makes it such that there's actual weapons that you have to worry about so that you can then run the ball for 250 some odd yards. But that's the thing, if you watch this game, and I just re-watched the highlights right before, this game, there's one play I actually want to talk about because I think it was a bad play even though it worked. And I'm gonna explain it. But this game was over. I was there, I was watching it. The Colts could put nothing together. They had third and two down on the red zone. They could not move, they could not complete passes. They turned them over four times. As a watcher of the game in slow motion, and here's how you know I was paying attention, I drank nothing. Well, that's because you were there with your daughter. Yes, that's right. And another kid. But I'm just saying, I could've had you. But I just didn't. I was like, it was early. And I was like, yeah, I'm just going to drink coffee. And then I was like, yeah, it's too late. So I didn't have a beer in me. So it was a weird experience. I've never watched a game like Stone Cold Silver at the stadium. So anyway, this game, they never had.
03 Jake: The only shot they had to win was when they kicked the field goal to start. It's going to hurt. and they were up 3-0. That's as far as they came to win. If the game had ended then, they would have won. What's this play that you're speaking of? I think the going forward on 4th and 11th, I think was, I literally turned to the guys around me, and I'm now kind of learning some of the guys around me in the stadium. I said, well, here's a real place you don't go for it. We're dominating. We're winning, we're stopping. You're talking about the T-bow fake punt. Yes, I'm talking about the fourth and 11 T-bow fake punt throw catch, which everybody's calling the highlight. But here's my problem. We didn't need to do that play. I love that it worked and everybody is whatever. We didn't need it. We're up 14-3. They could get nothing going. They can't run the ball. They could barely pass the ball. We were dominating running and passing the ball. other than just what the fuck let's do it like there was no reason to do that play none and so that's i get it works and it's kind of hard to be like oh look it worked and you know it's actually we've worked it three times and it's worked three times but it's like you're up 14.3 if that was a Patriots rep against 14.3 and it didn't work The world would collide. That's a lot of ifs you just threw out there. Yeah, but why do it? Why do it when you're up 14-3? Why not? It works. Because you don't need it. I'm all about these things. I like the fake punts. I like the onside kicks. It adds a wrinkle. It makes people worry about things. You could say we lost the game last year. Last week because of the onside kick. Not really. All right. Just lost to a better team last week. OK. and we beat the fuck out of a bad team this week. Good, that's the way you're supposed to do. So here's what I was gonna say. We're supposed to beat the fuck out of teams that are in this. Look at our season so far. I have. Okay. I'm looking. So we've won three games, lost three games. We have. We've gone up against three good teams and three bad teams. I'm calling Miami good. I'm calling Miami good. No, bad, bad. They're one of the bads. Yeah, they're one of the people we beat. Oh, okay, so you're calling Pittsburgh good. I'm playing Pittsburgh good. Pittsburgh's good at home when it's their home opener. Yeah, they're good. They're not really that good. They're a good team. I don't think they're that good. We played... You played Pittsburgh 10 times out of 10 times in a row, you're gonna lose more than you ever win. I'll say this. We played Pittsburgh next week. Instead of New England, we beat Pittsburgh next week. Not at home. Yeah, because the problem was we played them in their home opener and they're like they're just fucking insane. Yeah, I disagree with that statement, but okay, whatever. Here's what I'm saying. In fact, look at the records of the themes we've beaten. So we've gone up against... Well, Pittsburgh's the only losing one that we lost to, right? They've got a losing record at this point, don't they? Are they two and three? I think they are. I don't know if they're two and three. They lost to Titans. They had their buy ready. Yes, it must be two and three. Let's just click the little standings link on the interwebs and see where they put them fuck. They're at two and three. That's right Yeah, the Texans are five and one they get the first loss last night, right? So courtesy of a fucking crazy game for one to four and two forty Niners The Niners are four and two can't believe the Giants to care of them Giants with three
00 Jake: I mean, sorry dolphins are three and three jets with three and three Wow, the AFC East is three and three all across the board. Which is good, because we're 2-0 in the division. Right. So we're in first place. We're the first place Jets. Uh, still. Call us the first place Jets. Just say it. Last week we were not the first place Jets. So let's just, I know, understand. It's way too early to jump on, to get happy at any moment. But no, I've got us some form five. Listen, I'm just wanting to explore. You're so deep in your own ass with the cross-made in it. I can't wait until one of them goes wrong, then we can say, can you take the whole fucking thing out? Damn it. No, not until it happens. So I just feel like this is a team that's kind of beaten up on bad teams and kind of being beat badly. That's the thing. It's a swing. We got beat by 49ers. We got beat by Texans. No, we didn't. I think we got beat. They gashed us. They could have had more chances of score. No, we had the ball. Yeah down by six with four minutes left. They ran up our ass sure, but hey Wait, alright, if you lose by less than touchdown, okay And you have the ball in your hands with four minutes to go Down six you didn't get crushed. Do we give do we have beat but we get beat by the Dolphins like the dolphins beat us stuff we stuck in there and we can't go scoreboards said otherwise But but that's not what that game was I was at that game too That wasn't that what that game was that game was us getting our asses handed to us and then Through whatever came out of it with a guy who misses two field goals won it over time scoreboard says other So here's the thing, hyper hope. I'm hoping, cause I'm a fan and I'm fanatical, I'm hoping that this is hope. Why are you arguing with me? I said hope seven minutes ago. Because part of me is like, I just feel like I want to see it against a team that I feel like we shouldn't be, and I want to beat them. Well, get ready for... Sunday for Sunday all right All right, so let's get to it just to throw some stats some other stats you've thrown out so many stats I'm the stat guy, and you're just throwing stats around mark Sanchez rating 109 Tim Tebow's 118. Oh boy controversy Does have a nice game whatever you do what he had to do so let me let me throw up my fuck you for that I'm throwing it. I have one already you have I haven't seen anything for somebody I really like and appreciate and listen to all the time. Justin: Uh-oh. Jake: Matthew Barry. Oh. Talented Mr. Roto. TMR, what did he do? I'm throwing a fuck you to him. About Sean Green? No, no, no, no, no, because he's wife beat him in fantasy because of Sean Green, that's not funny. No, because every time they talk about TiVo or the Jets, they're like, well, you know, when TiVo starts, or when they go to TiVo, or when they make the switch to TiVo, and it's like. You I'm so sick of people, it's like this is the thing, they're creating this thing. There's no switching to T-Bow unless Sanchez breaks his leg. Like stop saying it. There's a lot of this creation. I know, they're creating it. And last week I watched the Jets Extra Point, I think it's called.
03 Jake: Bucky Math Berry. Yeah, so fuck you TMR. Uh, but last week I was watching, I think it's our open mic or something It's the one on Tuesday where they have the Tuesday press conference. The game plan open mic. Open mic. They might have that every day S&Y that's like three days. It's every day. So it was last week on Tuesday. Yep after the loss to Houston and reporters kept badgering Rex So, is- is- Sancha's gonna start again? He's like, Mark Sancha's my starter this week. And like, oh, this week? Yeah, I know. Why'd you throw the this week in there? And he's like, cause he's starting this week. Like, before you would just say, he's your starter. He's like, what do you want- what do you people want me to say? You want me to say the T-Bos and starter? What do you want me to say? T-Bos and starter, but then it's not true. Yeah, like, what- Yeah, exactly. I'm crossing my fingers. Do I need to say... For you guys to get the fuck off my ass is what he was essentially saying to them. Yeah, actually worked. That's true. And the running back ran for 161 yards and their top running back ran for 25. Looks like every other game we've played in reverse. So here's a fun thing when you're in the stadium and they throw the stuff up on the side boards. They throw the like so they usually throw up like you know, they'll throw up the rushing leaders for the NFL every once in a while. and looking up there and seeing Sean Green, the top of rushing leaders in the NFL, I was like, what? Take a picture. I know, take a picture, because that's not gonna happen. In fact, it makes the whole thing better. Like tonight, I'm looking forward to going and watching ESPN Countdown, because I'm like, I can't wait for them to be like, yes. And then I'm saying, oh, well, they still suck. But anyway, let's pick your player of the game and your play of the game. It's kind of hard to pick, to not pick Sean Green as the player of the game. Do it. So Sean Green, I know it's not just him because... Not at all. I mean, they were playing against a depleted defensive line. You know, Farini was limping around, Mathis didn't play. Yep. So it was, you know, alright, mangled, mangled, sat at the end of the game. Yeah. They pulled him out, but... The blocking was just impackable and Green was hitting holes hard. He hit the right holes. Yeah, the right holes. The right ones. And then instead of running into his lineman, he ran through the holes. With them until he got a block and then he would hit the hole. So and it wasn't, you know, you saw it like McKnight had a really nice long run. You know, Tebow even was able to run the ball, I think once he had like one really nice run. So it's like the holes were there. When he did the handoff to Green, even Green ran for like 23. Yeah, the holes were there.
01 Jake: And so I'm giving it to Green with a shout out to the O-line. I think I said to you, like every third and one, that's the Tebow package. Third and one. And guess what the package should be? Empty backfield. Right he was standing there by himself looking at the field assessing whether he can run straight ahead for one yard or whether You know whether they're stacking the box for that and just fuck it Take a shot because he could throw it deep right that should be the third in one package He was standing there by himself in the backfield. No running back on the field. Yeah Uh, yeah, I think my play of the game. I mean it's hard not to not play play your well I do a play and oh, I didn't do a play well. How would you pick a play then? Play oh, I'll pick you know what no play really really struck me as like oh that was This is like a sort of a tone setter. It was chromarties first pick. Yeah, or I guess his only pick He had two picks, one was called back. By the way, it was bullshit. Bullshit call. Maybeth slammed Luck, but he defended at that point. Luck was trying to tackle, he was well within the play. Yeah, that was crap. That was bullshit. But anyway, I'll pick his first, I'll choose his first pick, or his only pick. Because it was very athletic play and it really turned the tides. We went up 14-3 after that and it sort of said, you know what? I can fucking cover Reggie Wayne. So. Yeah, he did. I'm actually gonna pick Kamarti as my player. I mean, a lot of people could play. He had a great game. I'm gonna play him basically for two games. Because he had a great game last game, but we lost. He had a lot of penalties, but you know. He does have a lot of penalties. And you know, he had two... Two interceptions for touchdowns pulled back. Like, the guy could have scored more than, you know, quarterback at this point. But anyway, game changer, we got one of them and we scored off of it. So, and my play is actually the Stephen Hill touchdown. I just, it was a great catch. Great hands, great route. He ran the route, the ball came, he turned around right there. He was covered. That guy was not, he wasn't open, he was covered. forward. Really really impressive. I have high high hopes for Stephen Hill I don't know like and I think you're right having having homes on the field like here comes Chas Schillens like really Fine, it's perfectly fine. I mean Reeva's really still Stings yeah, really really hurts even though we didn't give up a touchdown It still hurts that Reavis you know Reavis couldn't be on Reggie Wayne right as good a game as Kremarti had You wouldn't even heard Reggie named Reggie Wayne's name right if Reavis was on the field He wouldn't have had five catches for 87 yards. There wouldn't have been an interception just just a note Two or three of those catches came in the fourth quarter. They were playing his own. They were just sort of letting them have it. So like that really is a good stat.
00 Jake: But Holmes, I'm not sure. I'm not sure that it matters. I think at this point, Holmes is more a name than a talent. I think no one's is a talent. I think there's a part of him that's just. I don't know maybe I just he's like a he's like a suck a sucking of the of the energy and now I feel like the Energy gets dispersed to these other guys and like was he there? Rebus is there like he was at the game. Yeah, I didn't see homes. I wasn't on the field with them So I was in the stand. I mean I mean this was up in a box. Yeah, he was like On the box. I'm watching TV. I'm actually watching from home. I think it's good. I think it's good He's not there and color back on the field is certainly a help whether Yeah, wasn't that involved but still so two injuries coming out of the game two running back injuries great We don't know what they are we have no idea Bilal Powell shoulder McKnight separate shoulder and then McKnight ankle no idea That was weird cuz McKnight was pointing to his shoulder, but he hurt his ankle He also just ran the fuck down the field yeah, that was the thing those holes were big rewatching the plays. It's like They were big holes and it's like, I'd love to go back now in the games and just say, were they there before we didn't find them? They just weren't there. Well, there's a huge difference playing the Colts who historically could never stop the rhyme. I mean, you go back and watch the wild card game from 2010. Not the AFC Championship game. Go watch the game where we beat Manning. And they beat them by doing that. They just ran the whole second half. They barely threw the ball. They didn't have to. They just kept running. And they switched to a 3-4. And... I mean the guy who kind of orchestrates that was not Aarons. Chuck Pagano, who was the Ravens defensive coordinator, they run the 3-4, and he's not there. So like they're kind of missing like, like if you were to just take Rex and remove him in Rex year one, in game five, you'd be like, oh fuck, we're running Rex's defense, but nobody knows it. So they're kind of like snake bitten there and, and, and... didn't even have their best players on the field so it's hard to hard to say you know they would have been able to stop the run but I mean look you're not gonna run the ball against Houston very well you're not gonna run the ball against the Niners very well although the Giants seem to have an okay time at it yesterday particularly when you don't have Dustin Keller or or Hill on the field. So if you don't have... If you're missing Keller Hill and I'll even throw homes in there, if you're gonna miss those three guys on the field, you're starting two wide receivers and you're number one tight end, why should anyone respect you throwing? So they're not gonna let you run. The Colts actually had to respect things on the outside. Respect Keller. Respect some of those options down the field So the running the running game could get going a little bit and they didn't even need to get the
20 Jake: And then you get a gash and it's up there by 30. It's like, oh, OK. We had those gashes that they had against us. It's like, oh, it's first and 10 from the 35. Oh, you just run 65 yards. It's like just game changer stuff. Yeah, it's crazy. You know who else lost yesterday? The Patriots. The Patriots lost yesterday. Justin: Fucking love it. So happy. Jake: You know what that means? It's really hard to win in Seattle. It is. Although it wasn't about the scoring, it was more about, I mean this team, this is the third time, the third time this year out of six games that they've just, wait till the end, they start just whipping it down the field and catch these balls and win the game. The kid, the kid, the kid Wilson's got moxie. He's got moxie, but he doesn't have these great stats, he just kind of at the end of the game, he's just like, fuck it! He had some pretty good stats yesterday. He had a much better game than Tom Brady. So we'll talk about New England next week because we'll get up against them. Buffalo wins in Arizona. I had that one. That's... That came out of nowhere. That's... Nope. I don't even have an explanation for that. They lost their quarterback somewhere through. And then Miami won. So it was like... It's a crazy AFC East now. Yeah, Miami beat St. Louis. I mean, that's a... That's a... You know, tough game. Those two teams are both see but nice to know that you know nice to know that they're beatable and The other I mean other crazy news coming out yesterday Looks like Packers are back a little bit last night and I got the offense going took it to the house a lot That was that was crazy. I mean just to take care of Houston like that with no issue just Ping, ping, ping right down the field. Just like they- Six touchdowns. Yeah. That's crazy. At home too. And then Ray Lewis out for the season. I mean- Crimea River. As a fan of the NFL, I feel like, you know, whatever. As a fan of the New York Jets, like thank you. Because if we ever have to go up against that defense, they don't have Suggs, they don't have Ray Lewis. Suggs will be back, they're saying. He'll be back. That's it. Ray Lewis also lost their number one corner. I think Liderius Webb. Yeah, they lost him for the season. I think he was good because he's good I will say As we went to the Jets game last year in Baltimore. Yes, we did. It was the night game and I still literally have there night terrors about it to suck Chezz That is organic there they don't need the piped in crowd noise for that they start that there I can't say, like I am actually a little disappointed that Ray Lewis is out for the year.
04 Jake: Like, as I imagine some teams are like, yay, Reavis is out for the year. They're also like, oh, you know, that's kind of a shame that he's out for the year because, you know, the respect level for how good he is and all that. But man, Ray Lewis, I have, as a fan of football, I have a lot of respect for him because he, I wish the Jets had a guy like Ray Lewis on their team that does what he does to get that crowd pumped before a game. Well interesting because we were talking with people about, we were talking about the, We're talking about the... The brand of teams and what teams are known for and like what are the Jets known for and we were talking about the very big brand of the Ravens and saying well, what does the Ravens you know? What is their brand and like we're like it's Ray Lewis and like when he him coming out that whole coming out thing Someone said well could they do with someone else like no no no could the Jets do that with somebody no no It's a personality. Oh, funny moment. I- that's what I- the only thing I should say is that they announced the special teams. So Tim Tebow got announced, I guess. Oh. Because his personal pump protector doesn't get announced? So what, like the Kickers and Joe McKnight and Jeremy Curley and that was it? The four guys? And like- Long snapper, maybe? Yep, long snapper. I've never in my life had them say, Justin: and the long supper from wherever the fuck. Jake: It's because they couldn't dare announce anyone else. I think so, and they also did a great job last week. Like, they had a great game. So anyway, anything else? What's happened around the league? Anything else crazy yesterday? I mean, I lost in the stupid fantasy football. Let's talk a little bit about fantasy football, because I think most of us are... Done. I think, uh, I think someone's gonna become first place this week. Who's that guy? So annoying. Who's that guy's gonna become in first place by himself? Who's that guy? Looks like you are. Yeah, that's right. In our division, you're gonna take it over. No, no, no, no. In the league, I'll have the best record of the entire league. But it's by division, isn't it? Five and one. I'll be five and one. And you will not be. Over the pond, you got me by one point. Literally one. 74 to 73. Can't complain though, you know 73 is not not a lot of points got it got to do better than that This motherfucker's got Clyde Gates in the game Get some zero and curly couldn't get me like a couple more men. Yep Yeah, I basically was losing not gonna win it all and then add Aaron Rodgers just go Do Aaron Rodgers type things. He does Aaron Rodgers. I still have a guy going tonight. I From time to time he'll have a game. I just love how a woke scoring this league is and in the pick them Your phone again. I love it. I'm falling. I'm still beating you. Yeah, but you're up by two I don't care as long as I'm being you do you have tonight by the way, I don't know I go look I have Denver
00 Jake: Getting a point should I change it if I don't I've never. I should change it. No, follow the rules. What rules? Don't bet against Manning on Monday night. I was thinking about that last night. You should add to the rules. Don't bet against Rodgers on a night game. You know what you do? You take really good quarterbacks like Breeze, Brady, Rodgers, and the two Manings. Throw Eli in there. Hey, Eli, good game that's you. Take those five quarterbacks. And there's a couple coming into this zone, but nobody's with those five. And just don't bet against them in prime time, and don't bet against them if the spread is bigger than three. Like, if they're getting more than three, just take them, because the game's going to be close. Unless they're playing each other, then you kind of have to figure it out. Alright, Jeff fans, that's the end for this one. This week, we will be back with... We're back in two days. I think we're doing a podcast on Wednesday. Second one. Sure. Yeah, I think it's actually already scheduled. So that's good. We'll be doing our picks. Remember, we got a game this Thursday night. An actually interesting game. The 49ers against the Seahawks. You told me that six months ago or four months ago, three months ago, even two months ago, would have been like 49ers Seahawks Thursday night. Where is it? Boo. Uh, time to just depends where it is. Think it's. It can't be at home. I don't know. Because here's the reason. I know. You have this thing where playing in Seahawk land. Well, playing in Seahawk land is really difficult. It is. So that's the first thing. And the second thing is that. It's in San Francisco. Yeah. They're going to crush them because San Francisco is coming off a home loss, which is going to just piss them the fuck off. Seattle's got to travel a short week. Yeah, but it's like down the coast.
