09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always gonna be that way. Can't wait! Jake: Podcasts! As long as we're on the jet podcast on the entire interweb. My name is Jake. I'm your co-host. I'm your host. And joining me, oof, tough day. Are you the host or are you the co-host? I'm the host. What are you? I'm the host. Really? You are the host, the co-host for the 126th time, but maybe never again after questioning my co-hostingness. I don't like your attitude. Yeah, well, you're no longer the co-host. 127, I'm looking for someone else tweeting me back. at JustJets. And who? What's your name? Who are you? I'm crossing all my wires. Alright, well we got a big agenda today. You've missed us because it's been an entire week. We didn't do anything on Monday because the Jets didn't lose or win because it was an off week. And we've got tons and tons and tons of stuff to discuss. We got the Town Choir, we got other kingdoms. We have, we're going to try to do some mid-season grades. We're gonna do a Fantasy Kingdom. We're gonna do our Jet Kingdom pick-up of this week's games with the spread. And then we'll talk about our Throne Picks, which are the AFC match-ups, which are the big ones this week. Talk about the Jets game, give our keys to the castle, give some stats, we'll handle some tweets and some messages at the end. We got tweets and messages? This will be over an hour. Hang in there. Oh man. Let's- We got tweets? We got tweets. I didn't see any tweets. We got tweets. Alright, so let's get... You know what? I don't like tweets because they seem to be like negative against me because... No one likes you. Oh, but people know I'm the smart ones. That's cool. I'm the smart one and the pretty one. They love... you're the prettiest man in the bar. What? You're also the guy who... people like to make fun of. I'm also the one who if you're betting... The other side of my picks you're doing really well. That's how smart you are that you get all your picks wrong That's right over. All right. All right, so let's talk about grades. We're gonna do grades for offense defense special teams and coaching coaching For the first half walk we always come back in the end season and say what our grades were and then we grand the end season. Let's go offense. All right. Give me a grade. Let's go A to F. A to F. Not including E. Not including E. Let's go grade school rules. A to F. Do it. I never got grades A to F when I was in school. There were always numbers. Short bus? No. There's always numbers. We didn't have letters. Didn't have letters until I got to college. College had letters. I didn't like letters. Not a lot of room in there. Like an 88. There's like 1 through 100 letters. There's like 1 through 5. But then all this, there's a matching of them. You can take a 91 and say it's an A-. 89's a B+. 92's also an A-. So like, I won 92, not 91.
02 Jake: I was more in the 70s anyway, so... That's why you're so smart. That's why you're a broadcaster now. That's right. I swear broadcasters end up. That's where the 70s end up in broadcast. Dumbass broadcasters. That's the name of this. They go to Syracuse University and end up in the broadcast booth. Here we go. The title of this podcast is Dumbass Broadcasters. Alright. So grades, give me an offense. What do you think? First half. C- C-minus. I'm being generous with that too. Really? I think so. Give me a little uh... Give me some ruckus. No consistency. There's a lot of inconsistency, a lot of slow starting, a lot of, you know, we're supposed to be this run team that's supposed to be our identity on offense and we can't run. I feel like at certain positions we've been better than C-minus. I actually feel like Sanchez has been much better than that. Yeah. It's a quarterback. We're not going to get that granular here, but. Well, Sanchez is an F. Sanchez is an F. Aside from that Baltimore game, he's had a nice season. I think he's been playing better. He's improved. We talked about that last week. Yeah. But. We're supposed to be this run team. We have some weapons in San Antonio homes who sometimes are just don't even seem like they're a part of the game plan. Same thing with Plaxico. Maybe that's an issue where you have all these guys and there's not one supreme alpha dog where you know you know Calvin Johnson is game plan One two three four five for Detroit and then there's the rest first you look Calvin Johnson. Yeah, right Then we'll come to us right and we'll come to us in the way, you know That's just a receiver but like the same thing in Minnesota, you know, Adrian Peterson's gonna get his he's the alpha dog He's the guy on the team, but not sure the Jets have that it should be San Antonio Holmes I'm not sure he's in that stature of receiver is not Larry Fitzgerald He's not Calvin Johnson. He's not Andre Johnson. I think part of the problem is, well, anyway, all right, C minus? Yeah, C minus. How many of them are C plus? And here's the reason. That's a bit of a Homer pic. No, we have a winning team right now. We are winning, we're 4-3. C minus means that we're losing. C plus is like, you're not doing B level work. My grades are gonna be on a curve where the rest... the offense is going to actually get the lowest of the points. I just think like for a team that's actually won, that's been able to throw, yes the running game I'd give that a, you know, I'd give that a D plus. But the passing game's been okay when you can have a game where you score three touchdowns and win games. I'm sorry but that's not, we're doing okay as an offense. Inconsistent, yes. I think it's more on the coaching. We'll talk about coaching when we get there. Defense, give me a grade. I think the defense has been pretty good this year. They had some really good games against Baltimore. The defense played great. The final score doesn't show that because Baltimore's defense scored so many points, but the defense in the Baltimore game played great. That might be... more Baltimore's offense is no good but they played great in the Miami game, they
03 Jake: played great and against San Diego, you know they've had some really, they played excellent against Jacksonville, I think most teams are gonna play excellent defense against Jacksonville. They've only had a couple like bad games so far. I feel like I'm gonna give the defense a B because there's certainly room for improvement. I think that they can be a lot better than what we've seen so far, but they're getting a B. Yeah, they're like a smart kid coming into class, like the know-it-all genius, but then starts to like, just trying to rest on their whorls. They're ranked like seventh or eighth, like I think they're eighth overall in terms of total defense. In terms of how do we think? I'm just looking at Yachty. I'm looking at it now and like. Like their points per game is middle top of the pack. We can sort these by a number of different ways. I went for ranking and they were very 8th. It's another drop down. But anyway, it doesn't matter. I agree. I actually would give them lower. I'd give them over B-. Because I think there's so much potential there. There's too many of those games where people just get out of control a little bit. I don't expect us to be in games where people are scoring over 20 points. Well they're also, they're giving up a lot of running yards. 126 or 127 yards a game on the ground is not what you expect out of a rec starting defense. And not what we've seen over the last two years. I think they got a little better before the bye against Miami and then San Diego. They held both of those teams in check. San Diego is a pretty good running team. Miami not a very good staff in the ball team not a very good staff in the ball team. No, we'll get to that later But you know the Jets extremely good against the pass that's to be expected. You know, you got Rebus out there You're gonna be good against the pass your blitzing your hurrying making teams rush They've also played well against some pretty decent quarterbacks in Phil Rivers who's Proving to not have a very good year. Romo, they played very well against the very talented Matt Moore. They shut him down. Very talented. Alright, let's go special teams. Give me a grade. I gotta give them an A-. And the only reason why it's not higher is because I feel like there was... Like maybe like the crow fumble. Yeah that one play in that Oakland game that there's also no one where they're turning to each other against San Diego remember that ball kit hits the guy and they ran into each other trying to get the ball. Yeah, but that's okay It's not a turnover I feel like the only reason why it's not an a is because that was a big momentum Shift in that game that we lost that happened on special teams but other than that a block pump for a touchdown a Return for a touchdown on special teams Nick Falk has been great The punter punishment break in good. Where is it? Finally TJ Collier's if you don't know his name, that's probably a good thing, right? You're not like you know, an Adam like you saw, right?
02 Jake: Puntings been good. He replaced Weatherford pretty well. He's doing the inside 20 kicks with the field position very well. I feel like the special teams has been one of the best special teams units in the league. I would absolutely agree. And in fact, we'll just kick over to the thing, which is that Joe McKnight, part of our news, I'll work it in. Do they have special teams categories here? They do. Joe McKnight was named AFC special teams player of the month for October. We're number one in... in kick return average in the entire league we averaged 30 yards per kick return which in some cases is a starting position of the 24 yard line right but in other cases is you know a starting position of you know out at the 40 which is what we're used to and I think we're doing a good job of putting it right around two yards into the end zone and then having that guy pull it out and he gets to the 12 Nick Folks doing a very good job on kick offs I feel like he's like he's been taught and and he can pull off two things he kicks it high yeah you're team I can't even get that and he angles it to a corner of the end zone where you can get about at about two to three yards deep right now I know Nick folk could blast it for a touch back every time. You would hope. I know he could, but what they're doing is they're baiting teams because of the change of the rules. Last year, if you were three or four yards deep in the end zone, you're taking a knee, you're taking that to 20 every time. This year, if you're three or four yards deep in the end zone, you're running it out. That's a mentality thing. Teams are just doing this, and he's kicking it high to get it to three or four yards deep, and we're tackling people at... 15 right I mean they're running it out and a good return gets them to the 20 right like a 25 yard return gets them to The 20 right the 25 yard return puts you in the top 10 in the league in return yards So they're doing a very good job Covering Kickoffs and the strategy around it has been sound for that reason. I give a solid a one fumble. I give us all I'm a little tough. I I feel in my graining. I I you know a minus a whatever your fault which is go the option with the defense I want more coach. I want more four and three. I thought we'd be five and two One game off for it. Let's go. That's a big difference coaching Overall or head coach or coordinators or where am I going? Go go off? All in. And then talk about everybody. Let me give them a B-minus. I feel like there is room again for improvement here. More on the offensive side of the ball. there needs to be a way to get going. and getting to a rhythm quicker. Now I feel like they did that against San Diego. They actually got into a rhythm early. They had some turnovers and that hurt, but that's not coaching. That's just, you know, the players have to play the game. They got into a rhythm.
00 Jake: There were no open the game with four straight three and outs because to me that's... That's partially on the players, that's also partially on the first few series not game-planning that correctly to get into a rhythm and get a first down. I also feel like I think I've said this over and over. The Jets sometimes, when you compare them to other teams, on... first down they're playing to get to second and six when other teams on first down are playing to get a first down like the goal is we're just gonna get 15 yards we're not going for first down to get second and six and then on second six we're gonna get to third and two to then pick up two I feel like the Jets play that way sometimes where other teams all right we ran the ball in first down because we want to run the ball in first down we gain four yards at second and six we're gonna gain 20 on this play. We're not going to just try and get to 32, we're going to just get the first down here because that's what we're going to do. And I feel like the Jets need to take the reins off a little bit and that's coaching to just go for it a little bit more down the field. So that's offense. Special teams have been great. Westoff has done his usual great job on defense. There's a little bit on the running game, like they need to solidify that, shore that up, get that running game slowed down, and I feel like there's something that happens at halftime where this is both a positive and a negative. The positive is, I feel like Rex and Petton have the ability to... Adjust and on the fly say this is what they're doing. This is how we're gonna stop it and it works They stop it in the second half Wish they could do that In the first quarter like after the first drive even or diagnose it or have the game plan More set in stone that they already like they're a little bit more ahead of the game because I feel like at halftime Yeah, go in and they're like, all right. We got this figured out And we got it figured out they're gonna score nothing in the second half and that's great But I wish they could do it a little earlier. So for that reason I'm gonna give them as a whole of B-minus Yeah, I'd go more C+. I feel like this team Wasn't prepared coming out. I feel like this team lost its identity Maybe it's the the CBA and the not being and OTAs and whatever But it just feels that this team wasn't really ready to become the team that it wanted to be Almost until the last you know two, three weeks. It's like, this is very, you know, again, a team that's supposed to be good against the run, not good against the run. A team with these weapons on offense, you know, same team as last year in terms of running, but then I can't run the ball. We're at ground and pound, well, we got the new weapons, the wide receiver, so let's start winging it down the field. Like, I just, it's just very inconsistent all over the place. Inconsistency from everybody except for Westoff, but Schadenheimer, you know, it just sometimes it just Well, we keep saying in these games, it's like, who are you? What's your identity? There are teams who have an identity, and those teams win on those identity. I feel like we just don't know.
01 Jake: Or they have a game plan. Like, well, we have a game plan. Well, not necessarily though. How can society go out and be like, whatever. Well, I know we have a game plan, but let's use what Pittsburgh did to New England last week as an example. We've been to a game plan. No, no, no. On offer. ... An offense. What we did versus New England and what Pittsburgh did against New England. Ben Roethlisberger came out there and threw the ball 50 times. And that's Pittsburgh. Yeah. And you don't identify Pittsburgh with throw the ball 50 times, do you? But they're much more throw pass, throw team in the last couple of years that people willing to think about. Right. But still, 50 times, that's a lot. But that's what you do to beat the Pats because guess what? They can't cover. Right. And what did we do? We went out and grounded and pounded the Pats and it didn't work Right But you could you could chuck that ball all over the Patriots if you really really want to because they got no they got nobody to Cover Troy Brown isn't out there covering people good news for you. I'm adding this week. Very good news I think the Giants can I think anybody can go out there and roll the ball all over the past It's not the worst defense in the league. Yeah you could you could really I mean these guys were wide the fuck open. Yeah and that's part of the game planning where Pittsburgh said you know what they got nobody to cover our guys we're gonna throw the ball around that's how you beat these guys and we didn't do that we were like let's run it up the middle. We got two we're coming they're coming back in two weeks we'll see how it goes. I better chuck the ball around cuz I feel like that's how you beat them. Fuck it. Chuck it football. All right, so You said coaching you gave them a C-minus B-minus B-minus I gave them the C-plus. All right one more I just want to add this is gonna be a long podcast GM it's halfway through the year and We've seen some of the changes that you know, some of the guys who we lost some guys we brought in and re-signed How do you feel, and I've been answering first, so I'll answer my own question, but I'm looking at some of the key losses. Guys like Ellis, Brad Smith, Kottree, Tony Richardson. These guys are, you know, some retired, some moved on. You know, I'm not going to include like James Ahedbo, who's starting at safety for New England. That's how bad they are. We know. that he can't cover anybody. So I'm looking at it. I think Tynanbound did a pretty good job of both in the draft, bringing in you know Muhammad, bringing in Curly, getting Ellis who looks like you know now that he's we'll talk about an injury section but you know he's gonna make his way into that lineup, re-signing guys like Walking in David Harris making sure that he was there to go Picking up Maven at the end of the end of the training camp who's turned out to be my baby Maven He's turned out to be a spark plug on defense And we talked over and over it. Yeah, Plexico retaining homes retaining Cro Mardi Making sure that those guys were taken care of I'm gonna give him I'm gonna give him a
03 Jake: Bb5. Yeah, I say b plus because there hasn't been any, there's no Goulston's there, right? Goulston's. Everybody who he's done something with has started with and performed almost almost on the field. So that's where I see. If you use the practical barriers, huge. Now the teams, you can't, it's hard to say the guys you lost. I think Brad's a couple of key guys so the brass with I think is the only guy that I look back And I think it's not just Brad Smith is that when they lost Brad Smith They lost the guts to do the Brad Smith play. Yeah, they lost they lost five to ten plays, but they couldn't Yeah, there's some I don't know if they have that guy Freakin you know not keeping him, but like they could have said listen kind of done with you. One guy who I really liked that that that was lost in the shuffle that's sort of a smaller name it was Drew Coleman. I really liked Drew Coleman you know Strickland's wearing number 30 out there and it's like oh there's Drew Coleman. Oh no. Strickland. But Drew Coleman was an awesome blitzer. Yeah. Like he was really good at in that in that third down package and you got like six corners out there. Drew Coleman was the one that was blitzing. I feel like they miss him a little bit. I think Lowry's starting as a safety. They're both over there. And again, you couldn't keep everybody. It couldn't keep everybody. It's hard to, you know, back-to-back AFC That's just the guy. Kottry Curly looks like he wasn't in and Curly looks like he's a good replacement If you want to give him anything, I think the Mason thing is probably the biggest fault That's right. It was a splash was we got Mason we picked him up from you know It's all this kind of like it was a big thing when really he I mean either personality wise or play wise We don't know. No, we know that was person. Well, we don't know we'd think There was no way That was personality. So I say B+. You gave him a solid B. Let's go on. I'm going to move on. I'm going to leave some stuff until we get into the games. Especially the other Kingdom stuff because we'll talk about their past game when we talk about them. So let's talk a little bit about Fantasy Kingdom. Fantasy Kingdom. Last week's review. So how did you do in your... In our league? Our joint league? It's going to be great. Well, how'd you doing your stutter dud cuz that's where we were competing against Pretty sure I gotcha Cam Newton, I knew I had Jimmy Graham. I had Jimmy Graham. I don't know how we did Can't really had a very good game. I'm looking last week last week you know the These are the guys who you wanted on your team. You wanted Stephen Jackson who had a great game for the very surprising St. Louis Rams who came out and beat up on New Orleans. They had the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals in the house. So maybe that give them a little juice. Like this is our house. Fuck the Cardinals. We're going to win.
00 Jake: I don't know. LaShawn McCoy, Shady. I played him in three of four leagues I'm in. I played against Shady. We lost three of them. We lost two of them. Ray Rice had a very good game. Tam Newton, who was my guy, had the 4th most points in the week in hour scoring. Some other guys that did some stuff. Adrian Peterson had his usual very good game. Mike Vick had a good game. He was able to run for 50 yards. He threw very effectively. Like we said, Ben Ralthusberger threw the ball 50 times for 365 yards against... um, I guess the pats and a guy who we have to face this week Fred Jackson had another you know 120 yards rushing 74 receiving another ho hung game for Fred Jackson that's a new tough match and Fred Jackson's not like this young buck he's been on their team for a couple years and they've sort of ignored him They keep drafting the key, you know They drafted a guy in the first round last year Spiller and he just is not really a part of the office Fred Jackson's They're guys. Those are some of the top players from from last week. The top tight end. I think was Brent Selleck Yeah, he had a big pickup this week. Finally had a Week worth noting. He's been kind of lost in that Eagle shuffle, but I guess they needed a week of bye so that, of course, they could come back and win after the bye like they always do. I mean, they should just have their bye every week. I think it's 5 and 11 now. The team's after the bye. We're due. It was 3-9 before. No, but a lot of teams won last week off their bye. Only two. I think two others lost. No way. Well, I can name three. Okay, well then it's six and six and six and six... Six and six and ... No, no, no, it turned a loss off the bottom. No, I know that, but six teams came off of a buy last week, and I... I think three lost 3-1. Was it 3-3? I think so. All right. Anyway, it's not... Well, Andy Reid doesn't lose... No, he does not lose everything. We'll see what we do. ...because the Eagles look good. Um, Stutter Dead this week. Who you going with? Basically, we have the Phil in the roster, so I'm going with, uh... My roster's sort of Phil. ... So now you got it. Yeah, you got two more you gotta put it you gotta put a kicker and you gotta put a defense I'm not doing that. Yeah, you're not doing kickers and deep one. We're not cuz we're not doing that team. All right I'll pick them later. I'm not doing that. That's so stupid. We have so team fine I'll wait till Baltimore plays the Colts or something. Okay, I'm picking Jill forte Jill forte, that's right. Okay, cuz he's have a freaking awesome game. Alright, very good. I'm gonna pick Mike Nugent. Okay. Good for you. We gotta figure out the rules of this game a little bit better before we play it next time. Alright, let's do some Jekking and Pick'em. What do you think? Jekking and Pick'em, let's do it. You ready? So Jekking and Pick'em, while he gets that ready, is we pick every game in the NFL against the spread or with the spread. We do it online. Actually, I think it's a good point to bring in one of our messages this week because it was on the message board of our pick-em, which is just a thought, guys.
02 Jake: This is from, I think, Steve. I'm not really its last name, but just a thought, guys. How about having Sarah come on the podcast to give her pro pick-em predictions every week? She seems to know more than us homers and it would give us a different... perspective, kind of like the fantasy football girl or the SBN pod girl, love the show. And as always Jake and Justin go Jax. No, the answer Steve is absolutely not. Let's talk about why he would be talking about Steve. Well first of all, who is this Sarah person? Sarah would be your wife. Okay, yeah, that's true. And Steve, who's team is Steve's? I can't tell you. Well, this is no good. I don't know either. Does it tell us whose team it is? I don't know. Oh. Well, the reason he's saying that is Sarah's my wife and she's crushing everybody. She is absolutely crushing. Well, she's got a four point lead over the New York SAC exchange. He's 62. We can't tell which team is Steve's, can we? I don't think so. Alright, anyway, I'm last. My record is... You suck. I am 18 games under 500. I'm that bad. Now you, on the other hand, are only six games under 500, which is bad, but I'm laughably bad. You're laughably bad. So again, when you hear my picks. Pick against. Pick against it. You will do well. Last week I won three games. And we keep up the AFC East because we then talked I am proud of myself, because last week I did have that Kansas City game right in the Monday night. You did one game. I was probably I just knew Kansas City because we've been talking for the last like three weeks about Kansas City You were like they shocked by the way, they're four and three. Yeah. Yeah, it's great. Okay, great Can't say they didn't beat anybody. So just beat San Diego and that means that that We need them convincingly they beat them because convincingly we beat him by a score. Right. We beat them back in the fourth quarter. And we came back with just three touchdowns and won the game. I wouldn't say it's convincing. Convincingly. All right fine. Let's go. We didn't let it go. Let's go. We're picking the games. We're picking them against the spread. I'm leaving the AFC East out. Yes, if you could try. Because we're going to come back to those later with some deeper analysis. Deeper analysis. But I'll remember the spreads. So By the way, there's only 14 It's four teams this week, none next week, and then another four weeks after. So there's one week where there's none. There's only eight teams left that need to buy. Four of them this week, four of them in the week after next. So next week we have a full slate. Alright, let's start off in Dallas, coming off an embarrassing prime time loss. Playing Seattle, who's just embarrassing. And Dallas is giving 11 and a half points and I have to pick Dallas. I can't see Seattle being even close in this game after that embarrassing loss for Dallas. It's sort of a must-win for them here. Give me Dallas. No.
01 Jake: Okay. So are you taking Whitehurst or Jackson? It doesn't matter. Dallas has not been a team that they've had a couple, I think I figured three games they've scored under 20 points. They're not this big powerful offense. And the Seattle defense run defense is actually better than people think it is. It is. So, I think Dallas is going to win the game. I think Dallas' defense is going to dominate this game. But 11 and a half? Barrest by Philadelphia. But 11 and a half? Okay. It might be 21-17. For those out there who are betting? It might be 21, it could be 2110 and that'll be, it'll feel like a crushing, but I don't think it's me at 11. Alright, I'll take Dalles. Moving right along we have Atlanta. I should call Sarah now. Who, Atlanta coming off their bye, goes to Indianapolis who's also embarrassing. Yes. They're just terrible. and Atlanta is on the road giving seven and Why should I pick Indy here? There's really no reason. Give me Atlanta. Because Painter can't get worse. He can't do anything. They're so bad. They can't run. Reggie Wayne is invisible. Forget it. The problem with Indy is their defense is horrible. They're not built to play. They all got the same injury. Well, they're not built to play in these games where they're actually behind and teams are just going to run on them. They're built. like speed and to have Peyton get them up 10-nothing, 14-nothing early and then just drop into this cover too and play pass defense and rush off the edges with these guys who can't stop the run but who cares because you're not running on them anyway. Right. Now teams are just running all over Michael Turner's game, a monster game. He probably will. Here's the thing, I'm not convinced that Atlanta is a great road team. They never have been. Unless they pack a whole bunch of people into buses and bring them up there, I think 7 is a little too much. Straight up, I pick Alana, but I'm going to go with Indy. Alright, so again, we're opposite, you'll probably win. Alright, let's move along to a good divisional matchup. New Orleans comes off of a... Really a bad loss to to the previously Windless st. Louis Rams and they are facing their division rival Tampa who beat them like two or three weeks back New Orleans home giving eight. I think that's too much. I think it Tampa coming off their by will be Fired up. They get a good chance here to you know either pull ahead or tie or I'm not sure what their records are but pick up a game on their division foe eight points is still too much give me Tampa. Yeah I will take Tampa but I should switch my pick so this might be one of the three that you get right. I'll take Tampa you know Blunt's back he seems like he's the guy you know whether that knee is gonna hold up. Norweens, again, they're at home, they should do well. I would pick them straight up by selling eights too much.
01 Jake: For a team that beat them before, I just don't think. Yeah, they beat them before. Alrighty, so next game, San Francisco has to travel east again and play at one o'clock. They're doing this a lot this year. And they're playing Washington. in Washington who just got blanked. First time ever that a shanny hand has ever been blanked. They got blanked by the bills. We're gonna be pacing. I said this when they made the decision to switch to John Beck that it was an awful decision. And I think. Shanahan, now he just can't go back. Cuz they really should. There's no point in playing John Beck. It's silly, it's stupid. Rex actually gives you a chance. They're missing a bunch of players, Santana Moss is out. Hightower is gone. I don't know if Fred Davis is gonna be able to play. Washington's not gonna be able to move the ball at all. against San Francisco. I don't even know why this line is three and a half. It should be like seven. Give me San Francisco. Yeah, I'll take San Francisco. San Francisco's been doing well. Alex Smith? I mean, Washington, how are they gonna score against San Francisco when they couldn't score against the Bills? Yeah. How are they gonna score? They can't score against San Francisco. I don't know. This is gonna be one of those games where Washington's gonna end up winning like 24-10 and I'm gonna be like, what the fuck? just happened. How does that happen? Yeah, give me San Francisco. Alright, moving along. Houston is hosting Cleveland. Houston at home giving 11 to Cleveland. I don't know why I picked Cleveland. I just, I just don't, I don't know. They're not very good. Houston seems like they're decent. I don't know why I did this. I'm taking the points I guess. Cleveland. Yeah. I have no rhyme or reason for this pick. I think Houston a really good home team. I don't think Cleveland's gonna travel well in this case and I think Houston's gonna do very well and I think this could be a big blowout. I feel like you're right. I'm not gonna change it though. Good. Next game Tennessee is hosting Cincinnati. the 5-2 Cincinnati Bengals. Ridiculous. The rookie quarterback. They got Benson back this week. Yeah, you know what, I'm gonna open up their schedule just so that we can go through this. Who have they beaten? So they beat Cleveland. They lost to Denver. That's ridiculous. They lost to San Francisco. They lost to Denver to Kyle Wharton Denver. Yeah, that's right. They beat the Bills that was a trap game for the Bills after the Bills beat New England They beat Jacksonville who stinks they beat Indy who stinks they beat Seattle who stinks all right makes me feel a little better I mean, they're five and two there in the AFC. I don't want them winning games. They haven't really beaten anybody look at it Yeah, I mean they beat the Bills but the Bills were coming off a trap game when the Bills were coming off that huge win over New England. So they were just, you know, the fourth quarter come back. Right. They lost by three. They won back since he won by three. And if I look at Cincinnati's schedule, they're in Tennessee.
00 Jake: Then they have Pittsburgh. Then they go to Baltimore. They have Cleveland again, but then they go back to Pittsburgh, have Houston and then there, Baltimore again. Forget them. I know. Isn't that great? And the last five games, they play Pittsburgh and Baltimore. They play Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Well, no, it's not their last five, it's like their last eight. They play them twice each. That's awesome. No, that's good. Alright, they'll be knocked out. I'm just looking at this point, you know, us four and three, they're five and two, this is bullshit. Cincinnati, goddamn it. So, I'm picking Tennessee, they're giving three at home. Just because I cannot... If you were to tell me, Cincinnati's gonna be six and two, I'd say, shut your face. Yeah, but it's ridiculous. But he said that, you know, half these teams are gonna be where they are. No, I actually think Cincinnati's gonna win this. Tennessee, not a good team. Um, I feel like they are. I don't, I don't believe in Tennessee. I don't believe in, I think they have troubles. I don't believe in Hasselback. I don't believe in Chris Johnson. I like Hasselback. I don't believe in Johnson. I think he's, he's toast. He's done. But I think Tennessee's a decent team. Cincinnati has a very good defense this year and their rookie quarterback has stood up. I think they're going to win this game. Okay, we disagree on that. Yes, I think we agreed on one. That's fine, you're going to do really well and I won't. Alright, so coming off their bye. We have a battle here of maybe the worst two quarterbacks in the league. We have Oakland hosting Denver. Oakland with Carson Palmer, who's terrible. Hosting Denver with Tim Tebow, who's even more terrible. Oh yeah, this isn't even a close. Have you ever said Tim Tebow in like Painter or something like that? I think Carson Palmer's pretty awful. He's not worse than... I mean. now Carson Palmer or Carson Palmer from two years ago? No, the guy who's playing on Sunday now. Well, we don't know. He's pretty awful. You don't know how bad he is. He was bad last year. He's bad. Look at Cincinnati. We just talked about 5-2 Cincinnati. I agree he's bad, but it's not. So rookie Andy Dalton's gonna come in and be that much better than veteran Carson Palmer? Yeah. Yeah. He's terrible. Yeah. I, I, but I think, I think he's terrible but like has had streaks. Tebow is terrible in like a whole different category of terrible. Like he's like a, he's just not really a good quarterback. He's not a quarterback. Carson Palmer had moments, they had good seasons of being a good quarterback. He knows how to be a quarterback. He does. Has he gotten worse? Sure. But he knows what it is to be a quarterback. Tim Tebow is a football player. He's not necessarily a quarterback. And by the end of his career, he might be playing some other position. But anyway, Oakland's home. Denver's coming in it's a division matchup and the line is eight and I don't think Oakland's gonna have McFadden and If you're gonna tell me Oakland's favored by eight without McFadden. I'm gonna say give me whoever they're playing. So give me Denver Yeah, I I don't think I'm anything else gonna win this game, but I don't think they're gonna win by eight points So without McFadden, I just can't see it happening. Um, this could be like a it's gonna get 17 13 It's gonna be one of those because neither of these teams are gonna be able to score on each other. All right moving along we have
02 Jake: a really awful NFC West Division matchup. Yeah, there's a line. Oh, yeah. Sorry. This was off all week. It's now at two and a half Arizona's hosting st. Louis With that being at two and a half. It makes me think Bradford's gonna play Yeah, otherwise, I think it'd be like three and a half or four I like St. Louis. I feel like St. Louis just had one of those really miserable schedules And that's why they were 0 and 6 or whatever they were. They're coming off a big win. I just had the Super Bowl Give me Arizona. Okay, I'm gonna take st. Louis By the way, we're in the 4 o'clock now. We've been in the 4 o'clock for a little while There's a bunch there's like half the games are for I love that. I actually like when they put more games in both sides. Me too. The red zone's better. The red zone's better and TV's better. It's just better to watch more games. 4 o'clock will be much better, although I know which game I'm watching at 4.15. Oh yeah. So Green Bay is going to San Diego. Yep. It looks like... San Diego's swoon is actually gonna happen sort of in mid-October through November this year instead of in September. Yeah. Because they started off what like four and one or something like that and now they're four and four. So Green Bay's not losing. Green Bay's favored by five and a half and they're gonna win by more than that. Total degree. San Diego is something else. They are North-Turner. They are Turner. They're also North. They're Phil Riveard. He's thrown 13 picks this season already. Not good. He's not good. Not good. Not good. And it's not just, it's not like he's played Rebus every week. Like he's thrown 13 picks. He was throwing with KC. Yeah, no good. He's lost twice to KC in that division. No, they beat Kansas City the first time. I thought they lost to KC. I beat him. Oh, okay. I'll end the one. All right moving along to Sunday night again this week We have good prime time games. We have a Sunday night. That's awesome. And we have a good Monday night Sunday night is Is epic Monday night is okay again, just like last week Sunday night great record-wise Monday night is not that good. Well, yeah evil teams are good teams. The teams are good teams, but the record-wise it's not for anything. Pittsburgh Baltimore is for something. It totally is. Both of these teams are... Anyway, we'll get to it. Pittsburgh is hosting Baltimore. It's the standard Pittsburgh's home giving three-point line, which basically says these teams are even. Pittsburgh's out for blood because Baltimore beat the shit out of them in week one in Baltimore and Pittsburgh's gonna be peeved and These teams have gone on a seesaw. They look like a much better team. Their defense is absolute shit. Flacco is garbage. And Pittsburgh has started off that they look slow against Baltimore.
00 Jake: kind of slow and they didn't look very good. So slow. And all of a sudden they're what five and two or something along those lines. So I like Pittsburgh in this game in the in the revenge factor to remember the fact that they got their butts handed to them in week one at home at night. Gonna take care of business. Give me Pittsburgh. Yeah, everything should point to Pittsburgh and that's why I'm gonna pick Baltimore. I think Baltimore's gonna... I predicted at the beginning of the season that Baltimore is gonna win that division. As did I. And I think that this is the game that you'll see that they're gonna win it. And if they win this game, they're on a long way to win the division. Oh yeah. Um... You beat Pittsburgh twice and the division... You're in good shape. I am so... Upset that we lost that game to Baltimore because they're not good. I'll see Their offense is not their defense is the best defense. Yeah, they're very good. That's why I just don't well We just played so inept on offense that it was like offense. Just don't turn the ball over and we win this game No, their defense scored on all those turnovers. It was like just don't just don't turn the ball over We'll win the game against Baltimore. I think that's the thing. Just don't turn it over you win Pittsburgh has a way of turning. I mean Ben Rossenberger, I think he's sitting down. Sugs might sack him a couple times. I like Pittsburgh to win. Alright moving on to Monday night game that I think is pretty good. Bum bum bum bum! Philly is hosting Chicago on Monday night. Philly's giving seven and a half. I feel like that's a little too much. I think Chicago's pretty good. Joe Forte's gonna have a great game against Philly who can be run on. Give me Chicago and the hook. Yeah, I'll take Chicago as well. I think that's just too much. It's just too much. Well, it was in Philly. I thought it was in Chicago. It's in Philly. They get two games back to back at night at home. At home. And then. This is a weird thing this year. Every week, don't they go, or in two weeks, they go and play on Sunday night against the Giants. I mean, they put them in prime time quite a bit. Yeah. It's a little weird this year, we've had a lot of teams that have played the Sunday night and the Monday night back to back weeks. Yeah. It's a little odd. Well, there's a lot of huffle about what we said at the end of the season about the Jets having this bad Sunday night, Thursday night. Sunday night, Thursday night. How brutal is that? That's unfair. At least we're playing a shit team. But if we lose that game at Denver because it's a Thursday night That'll be the reason why we lose that game because it's on a Thursday night We won't have been able to like really practice or anything rest or rest or anything That will be that will be a tough one. All right, let's go to our throne pick. All right Let's go to the AFC East. Maybe the spreads we never do this the first game is Yeah, the first game is Miami at Kansas City. That is correct. And the line here is Kansas City is favored by four. I feel as if Miami is not going to win a game. All season? Yeah. You making a bold prediction?
07 Jake: Last week was it. If they couldn't have pulled that off against the Giants, they have. I mean, it's not who you're playing, it's the circumstances during the game. Wait, 15- wait, 15 and 0 with 3 minutes left to go in the game, they lost that game. I'm talking about 15 and 0, what does that mean? 15 and 0, 3 minutes to go to the game against Denver. These are the circumstances I'm talking about. But that's two weeks ago. Last week, they were up. You're not letting me finish. Well, I don't care. You yell at me for this all the time. Because you're a broadcaster. The- They have these opportunities to win games and they don't win them. So I don't see them winning any games because what have I seen that is like even if they're up by two scores in the second half they're losing games to even bad teams. They had a team on the ropes last week and they could not finish it. They had the Giants on the ropes. I was at the game as a participant of the game at the game at the new Metal Land stadium or MetLife stadium. It didn't feel that way. It always felt like, because the score wasn't huge, it just felt like boy the Giants aren't really doing it now, they're going to turn around. Just the feeling in the stadium was that. There's so much bumbling for the Dolphins. But here's the thing. The reason I think they're going to win a couple games is they're too bad to not win a couple of games and to get themselves out of the thing that they want the most. Gotcha. So they're literally, if they want to lose, they'll win. So I think at some point they're going to want to lose, Justin: they're going to win. Jake: I don't think that they're ever gonna want to lose. That doesn't happen in football. That just doesn't happen. No team can want to lose. Also, you don't want to go up. You honestly don't want. On the last game of the season, you do not want to be facing your division rival at home. Oh, I don't. I never said I wanted anything. I'm saying what I think is gonna happen. I'm a broadcaster. Yeah. I'm saying what I believe is going to happen. Well, good. I do not believe that they're going to win a game. The picks are so inaccurate that everything you say about what you think is going to happen I do not believe Miami's going to win a game. They don't even win a game. It's not going to be this one. No, they're going to lose 20 to 13. I said 23-21. They're not scoring 21 points in Kansas City. It's not happening. I think it... They're not scoring more than one touchdown. It's not happening. We'll see. That's my pick. How did you do last week, by the way? It doesn't matter. No, no, no, no. This is a week to week. Yeah, no, but how do you do it in your throne picks last week? Oh, in the thrones? Yeah. Um, lost that one, won that one, won that one, two and one. I did three, no. I got Pittsburgh right. I said Pittsburgh was going to win. You did not. You did. 26-29. Oh, I had that too. So I won three and also okay. Well, I read that wrong. Sorry. Yeah, you know three no so fuck off. Yeah There you go. All right next game. We got the mighty those you had three games It's amazing you can pick them in thrown pics, but you can't pick any better in everyone
01 Jake: I think I just messed up the spread. Yeah, I got him to win outright Alright, so we got the mighty G men at New England At 4.15, this will be the game I'm watching at 4.15. This will be the game on one of my screens. New England is home and favored by nine points. We have word today that Ahmad Bradshaw will not be participating in this game, nor will he be playing for the foreseeable future. Because of a cracked bone. Cracked just sounds worse than broken. Isn't it the same? Just sounds worse. Cracked bone is a bone. Makes me race had surgery before on both feet. No good. No good. No good. Not at all. So The Giants are playing in New England The Giants can throw the ball and that's how you beat New England. They can throw the ball. They have weapons They have Knicks if he plays they have Manningham. They have crews they have Ballard I was through all the balls. Yeah, the guy can plays like Kevin boss light the guy can play New England can be thrown on But New England doesn't lose two in a row when the second one's at home and they were just embarrassed by Pittsburgh. New England wins 33-27. I'm gonna say for all the reasons you said I agree I think this is gonna be more of a shootout. That's a shootout score, isn't it? I'm doing 37-34. Okay. Newlungen wins. Nothing in me wants them to win. I want them to lose badly. Although your prediction is for the Giants is that they're going to lose the next whatever 10 million games. No, they were going to go 6 and 2 and then 7 and 9. So right now they're 5 and 2. Okay. So you actually had them winning this game originally? No, I think I had them winning another game. Winning another game, the Seattle game. Seattle game, of course. Right. All right. them. last one this is truly I can say the game of the century the game of the millennium god this is a big one this is we are four and three we're going on the road in division to someone who's five and two and we're game ahead of us and we're seeing them again in four weeks right so we play them then we played New England don't play Denver then we play bills again right so this is me a quick turn around for whatever half round. Now this is a must win. Must win. Week 9 or week 8, I think it's week 9 but game 8, whatever it is, it's a must win. Because we're at 4 and 3, they're at 5 and 2, they beat us, they're at 6 and 2, we're at 4 and 4, they're at 2 and a half games ahead of us because they beat us. Can't have that. Halfway through the season you can't be back that far in division when New England's also in your division At this point, you know, we are fighting the bills for that wild card We have got to even though we're only one game back in New England one game back in Buffalo We're fighting them for that wild card. We gotta win this game And the key here, as it always is, as it always should be, is to stop that fucking run. Because if you can stop Freddie Jackson from running all over you, and I'm not even, I don't even
07 Jake: want to call it like stop the run because they run really well, the Bills, and he'll run for 100, 120 yards. But it's really stop Fred Jackson because he also catches the ball quite a bit. and gets like 60, 70, 80 receiving yards a game, catches a lot of screen passes. They do a lot of misdirectional, a lot of short passing. So a tweet came in. Who's Reavis on? Stevie Johnson. Blanket or Congress? Blanket, they got no other receiver. That's it. Reavis has Johnson, Crow has whoever else is outside. It's like Jones or... Um... Nelson plays inside. So it'll probably be You'll probably see Kyle Wilson on him. You'll probably see a lot of a lot of nickel Coverage out of the Jets because the Bills play a lot of spread it out three wide They don't use their tight end until they get to the red zone like the guy only catch his touchdowns Chandler. I think he has like under 100 yards on the year but like five or six touchdowns so you'll see that coming to play in the red zone. The key is Fred Jackson you can't let him get 180 yards of offense because Fitz doesn't throw the ball down the field it's all slants it's all short this it's short that it screens it's misdirection. It's wide receiver screen to CJ Spiller. It's Stevie Johnson on an eight yard slant. It's Nelson in the middle on like a little route that a tight end would normally run. So you gotta stop that short intermediate passing game and Fred Jackson is sort of the key to not let them get him going. time. so that you then have to sort of stack the box and let them do that short stuff that leads to big plays down the field. So that's my keys. There are a couple of keys. I like the Jets to win the game. Obviously if I ever picked against the Jets on this podcast. I think we have the bills. number still. Like last year week 16 week 17 whenever that was when we played nobody and they played their guys and we still fucking crushed them. I know the bills aren't what they were last year but that sticks in your mind. 2720. I think 20 is like keeping the bills in check because they have a good offense but I think, you know, that's what I'm picking. I feel like we could keep them under that though. I think it's really, so you want defense, I want to go offense. You know, I think we talk about it a lot. It's not, if you broadcast to the world and you tell people, and I think this was a part of, you know, part of Rex's bravado, which is we're gonna do this, and we're gonna do this, and you just try to stop us. Well, then some teams just went, okay, we'll stop you. And then we stop you, then what are you gonna do?
01 Jake: Thank you. I'm really looking for them just to say, let's be a balanced team. Let's not be a ground. We're not built to be a ground and pound team anymore. We don't have grounders and pounders. We have a balanced team. We have two good running backs. They say, McNeice is gonna get more time. Great. We have a flirty of good wide receivers. We've got a great. tight end in there who plays very well, sort of disappearing, let's play a balanced attack. Let's play, let's go for what they give us. The Buffalo defense is not very good. They give up a lot. Now of course they were very good against a really shitty team, whatever, but John Beck does not, you know, whatever. Yeah, but that's a crappy team. They also, the Buffalo has not played and won against a really good defense. They have played a couple and actually do the analysis. I'm not even gonna break it out But I have the analysis here give it to me. I want to hear it They have not by the way the line Yeah, the bills are home and they're favored by two, which means that Vegas is giving the Jets a little respect So, you know they won against Oakland Oakland's defense pretty 25th worst defense really 25th Don't argue me. I'm giving the numbers never played them and they look pretty good New England Patriots they won. Awful. Worst defense in the league. They won against the Tennessee Chiefs. 22nd worst defense. Right. Okay, they lost against the Giants. 16th best defense. They won against, this is the one that kind of sits out, but against Redskins. They had the 14th best defense. Makes no sense. How about the Eagles game that they won? Eagles 31-24. The Eagles have the 11th best, but when they played them, the Eagles defense was looking like shit. Wow. So, I hope you guys enjoyed this video, and I'll see you guys next time. They had not playing the one they played them card because when they played Kansas City Kansas City was when they played Bengals That was the first of the fourth best defense in the league. They lost 2020 to 23 so we're the we're the eighth we're ranked eighth here I think there's this line that that guy hasn't gone up against an elite defense I think the just have an elite different I think it would come off by and they're gonna be Worked out some of the thing kinks I don't think that fits. I don't believe in him. I don't think he's gonna go up against the only defense and win if he was up against the the pack of the the Ravens he was up against Pittsburgh if he was up against in Titans or Texans are up here Jets, I think he loses so I'm gonna call it. I think Jets win. I Want I want what's the score? 28-24. I actually think that they get a few, but I think it's going to be... We seem to be a team that almost always gives up something. Meaning, gives up a stupid play. When the Bills are big on turnovers, they force turnovers. Yeah, they force a lot of turnovers. So I think they're going to get one of those. We have to stick it in there. I'm looking at the rest of the Bills' schedule. We really do need to sweep them. Because their schedule is not that difficult. I mean, they still have Miami twice. Yep. Miami might win one of those and you know that. They might. They have Denver still left on their schedule. Okay, so do we have Tennessee? Is not... Tennessee, at home or in Tennessee?
00 Jake: At home. They're in San Diego late in the year, which I don't know, maybe that's good or not. They still have New England left in the last week of the season. Well, that's good. We went all against New England. I'm hoping New England has to win that game for some reason or another. for like number one C or something just to beat the bills and get us into the playoffs.
