09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Justin: Welcome to the Jake Keene podcast. Longest running podcast still on the interwebs. Boy the New York Jets that is. You'll get me like I messed up, but I didn't. Well you did. So fuck you. I gave you that look and that solved everything. No, it didn't. I'll just cut it out in post. I'll redo it. I write the copy. You can't read it. You're the broadcaster. I'm not. I am. So my name's Jake and joining me today for 110th. time on this very special Monday morning, very celebratory Monday morning for those of us who like war. For those of us in the USA, we know we have, well I guess the world. Yeah this is kind of a world event. There's probably about 100 people who aren't happy about this. Anyway, but over the, we're talking about of course. Osama bin Laden being killed, but let's talk about the draft because this is not the Osama bin Laden killed. This isn't Fox News podcast. No, it isn't. That's scary, scary thought. So, but joining me today is Justin. Justin how you doing buddy? I'm here and I'm ready to do a podcast. And yeah early podcast. This is like double landing. This is true in a row in less than week. Yeah. Amazing. Last five days. We're back! Although we thought we weren't locked out and now we're locked out again but we figured we'd do this for you. That's true. Maybe we shouldn't, let's just shut it down. And thanks very much. Thank you. The judge called. I said we can no longer go. So I went, I stole my playbook, and I ran out. Yeah. So we got a couple things to talk about. Three things actually on the big old agenda. Trace. One is... because we didn't do a podcast on Friday after the first round. You and I, or actually I, you didn't. I sat on a call with Roger Goodell. We told you I was not there. Yep. We talk about being re-locked out, although maybe we just did. We're locked out again. And then we'll talk about the draft. And then we drafted people. And then we'll give some grades. And let's also talk about probably the AFC East drafts. Oh, yeah. Let's talk about everybody else. I should probably figure out. whoever run else draft it. I want to hook that up. I'm gonna do that. Alright. First things first is Friday after the first round of the draft. We sat on a call for season ticket holders for the New York Jets. 5200 season ticket holders they said was on that call. Wow. By the way it's the biggest commerce call I've ever been on. I mean how many people have ever... Let's think of the biggest conference call you've been on way bigger 5200 people absolutely like where remember where we used to work together. Yes. Oh, yeah, you're right
03 Justin: 300,000 employees and yeah have company wide like every year once in a while. You're right. Those are pretty pretty You're right So it was Roger Giggity good day who got on the call and he took questions from the studio audience, from the season tank holders. What do you think? I was really impressed even though I wasn't there. No, I mean I told you about it. I was really, really impressed with the fact that he got on the call at such a contentious time in the league history. this moment of being locked out, etc. He was more than willing to get on and answer some pretty tough questions. People were like, how come you suck? Why are you doing it this way? I mean, they weren't always the easiest question to ask for somebody. Put them right on the phone. spot like when are you gonna yada yada why did you build this into this how did you do that I can't remember all the specific questions you want remember they were very contentious yeah I gotta give him credit for getting on and answer it's interesting cuz he was right after the first first round of the draft which did you ask you watch the first round I watch the first round but you he got booed for basically hours so I mean after getting booed they would even let him do the moment of silence in the beginning he's like all right all right guys all right I thought, let's just talk about the whole thing about him because then we can go on and talk about the draft. But I thought he did a good job at the draft, you know, of kind of just letting it roll off and saying, I hear you, we all want football. all like you know because to be honest I'm not sure that Yeah, you're booing him, but who are you booing? You're booing the commissioner? The commissioner really isn't controlling the situation. He's basically the puppet of the teams. Let's all be clear, the National Football League is made up of 32 teams, and the 32 teams control what the National Football League does in a lot of ways. He's doing what the teams want to do. So, you know, booing him, I get it, whatever. But yeah, I thought it was, I thought he did a good job. And the question, the one question I thought was that, and I think we talked about this last week, was the one question I wanted to ask, and someone asked for me, I don't remember, Al from Jersey or something. He said, you know, how is this gonna affect all this negotiating, all this crap that's going on? What the fuck does this have to do with, he didn't use that language. He should have though. Yeah, he should have. What the fuck does this have to do with the fans? He wasn't on a podcast that was marked explicitly. What's the point of doing all this? Are we getting anything out of it? Is there any benefit out of here? Tell me that doesn't feel like you're doing all this just for a bunch of money and there's no benefit. I will say, the thing I didn't tweet today, as Saul mentioned on the podcast, with something
01 Justin: is. sort of historic as what happened today or I guess last night with the killing of he should not be named it does make you think like really you guys are arguing over fucking money like can't we can't we just remember the shit that's gone on in our past and this historic year that's about to come up the 10th anniversary and here you guys are all you know bitching about who gets to split up the nine billion dollar pie like it make it does it Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh. perspective on what they're doing and hopefully core has prevailed. Next point is, and then we'll talk about the draft, is we're back on lockout. So we were unlocked out, they went for a stay, the stay got denied for two days, they went to an appellate court which apparently has more Republican judges on it, and that's an interesting twist, and the appellate court said, fine. I don't even know what a stay is. stays like I want to keep the ruling going. I want to keep it put a stay on it. So they wanted to keep the lockout going. So the judge makes a ruling and then they say, before you put that into action, give me a couple more days. Give me stay of action. Well you've heard of stay of action. Right? We're not sure. Okay, so obviously broadcasting didn't get you into any Ivy League colleges. A stay of execution, dude. Like when you say I wanna stay execution, that means I'm gonna be executed tomorrow and the guy will call and get you gonna stay of execution. That means you're not gonna be executed. They're gonna. Okay. All right, so anyway. I would do that every day. I'd be like, wait, give me a stay. Yeah. Let me stay on this planet. Exactly, let me stay in a lockout. So then it got overturned. So then the lockout, no, they got the stay in the heli-cords. So again, what does this mean? I mean, everybody went into the camps or went into the building, got their playbook, and 12 hours later had to leave. They stole it. Yeah, well, I guess they can't keep it. So interesting for the draft, how this will start to affect us now, now that we've kind of passed the draft, and it was always like the draft's gonna happen after the draft, kind of off now. That was the last National Football League thing that was supposed to happen. Now nothing is going to happen. For more information, visit www.fema.gov So that kind of, it was weird because the draft was going to happen regardless. Now it's over. But this means that like all these rookies, they can't be talked to. They can't come into camp. They can't get their playbooks. They can't start being coached. None of that can happen. So think about teams. I think the teams that are... If you're looking at it from a Jets standpoint, teams are going to do better this coming year if this continues for a couple more months. Our teams have a lot of returning players. Teams are going for a lot of rookies, like rookie quarterbacks and rookie wide receivers and all this shit. They're going to be in trouble. Because these kids aren't going to have any time in camp. Let's say it gets resolved in the middle of July. They're basically going to see their first playbook, Middle July, and that's it. As opposed to Sanchez, two years ago, he probably had his waybook already and was studying for four months. There's a difference between studying for something for four months and a month.
00 Justin: Anyway, so that is it. Let's talk about the draft. Yes? Sure. So you said you did watch it. I watched the whole thing. I watched the All, the One Night, and then... I watched the next two days, so I was actually kind of insane, but that's sort of the way I am. I like it, because I'm a fan, not a broadcaster. So let's talk about, let's do two things. Let's talk about our draft, give it a grade, and then let's talk about the AFC East and what other teams did. Sure. And I don't really want to grade them, because I'm not a draft neck, so I'm just going to say whether I think... it's good or not. There's some interesting controversy as I read this morning. Controversy in our draft? Well, well in the, actually the Patriots. One guy gave it an A, another one gave it a D. I gave it a D, but we'll talk about that later. Alright, so let's talk about our draft. So in the first round, who got it right? Peter King got it right. Peter King, motherfucker. He got it right, he nailed it. He did. That's pretty good. So exactly who we were gonna draft. 30th pick is a tough one to nail. First pick's easy. But as we decide, so what were our predictions? Our prediction was we knew Cam Newton, that was true. I think we nailed basically the top two or three. That was not a big deal. We said what everybody said, which is Cam Newton's gonna go to Carolina. Everybody kind of agrees it's a long shot and great splashy pick, but hey, you know, whatever. If you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean, some surprises here and there. A lot of quarterbacks went. A lot of quarterbacks. And a lot of like just really guys? Like, I don't know. Again, I didn't follow this draft as much because we were picking lower. Normally, I'm more... If we're picking high, I'm like, ooh, who are we gonna pick at number five? You know what I find funny about the coverage of the draft? And I really only watched ESPN. I didn't watch the NFL Network. But every time a guy was picked, they'd be like, I was certain this guy was gonna be off the board already. Bye! but like they never like when a guy gets picked like oh this guy I thought he was gonna be picked in the third round like oh yeah they did well they're always like like the 15th picked oh okay I thought this guy was gonna be in the top ten but they never at least like go back and they're like well this well I had him in the top ten but these four guys take this You don't say who would have come out of the top ten. I think maybe not in the broadcasting and as a broadcaster maybe you see different things. I do. But I read a lot more and I say people they say this guy got picked in the first and a lot of people are saying no he shouldn't have been. He's a third round guy. He should not have been picked in the first. It's more like as the draft is going it's like. Every person on maka whatever guy that the Giants got there like he went 18 I was sure he'd be a top ten draft pick and it's like he went way too late and it's like well, all right he tends then who Like they don't say it as the guys are getting picked like oh, that's a maybe one time I go that's a stretch or wouldn't have picked him here. That's a little early I too like it doesn't happen very often when I like that was a stretch Cause Gruden was nasty. Gruden would be like, I don't like this guy, he drops a lot of balls.
00 Justin: I mean he was... Like a man who traded up for a guy who drops a lot of balls. So a couple interesting things. The one big one I think everybody is kind of talking about is the Falcons. The Falcons traded in five picks to get up, to grab their guy. Julius Jones, Julio Jones. Jujo the new Jujo. I don't even know if the old jujo still is in the league. He's so playing Jewish Jones He was on Cowboys Was he oh, yeah, so I don't know if he's so wrong that was an interesting one I mean, it's a lot to get a receiver Julio Julio. He's a big guy, but I don't know. What do you think? Yeah, I don't like the idea of receivers early Just I don't know. There's so many examples of like third, fourth, fifth, sixth round receivers that are, you know, that are good in year one when you pick a guy in the first top 10 and they're not good for a couple years and then they're on another team and I don't know. All right. I don't like the idea of picking receiver early. Other interesting thing, Mark Ingram dropped way down. I was kind of expecting that, running back. The first running back pick was right before us. 29th pick was the first running back. I mean, you've seen years where running backs go one, two, four. I never go like one. Oh, bullshit. Ronnie Brown. He wasn't the number one overall pick. He was number two. Not number one. Well. I don't even think he was number two. He was number two. He was the dolphin. It's a nice patient stretch for a running back. I'm telling you. And Reggie Booth was number two. Again a real stretch for running down. It's the same It's usually you never do it usually get a couple of guys who are like stud there was no like stud running back though There really was no zing. Oh, no is it that was like the number one. He went 29 Saints jump back in traded to Patriots another interesting thing came out Peter King said this morning he's like, he's like you know maybe I'm getting sick of the Patriots stockpiling all their picks because they do this every year they have like a hundred picks to go into the draft with a hundred picks and then they trade away a bunch of them and then end up with next year the hundred picks and like his point was which is interesting so I think I think Peer Games of a Patriot shill, but because I've just read a lot of this stuff for a long time. Basically, it's like, okay guys, you know, you did pretty well last year, but you can never get to the pass rusher, you can never get to the pass rusher, you could never sack the guy, so why not spend some of your picks to actually get a guy to do this for you. Interesting. What other stuff? Anything else that struck out at you before we talk about the specific difference? and see you next time! No, I mean I I thought there was a couple of quarterbacks picked early that was really odd Ponder was a strange one. I don't think he's that good Locker being picked in the top 10 was a little surprising although He was kind of a guy that if he came out last year, he would have been a top five pick So like I and when you think of it that way It's like really he went back to school for one more year and now he's not good anymore So it's a little weird But I think I think going with a linebacker that high too is a little weird You don't usually get linebackers going number two the linebackers usually down
01 Justin: Bottom I get defensive tackle. Those are like we can playmakers linebackers are playmakers But not on the level that a quarterback or a you know, or a fat guy left guard center fat guy Ray Lewis is more of a playmaker than fat big fat fuck in the middle Ray Ray Lewis is like oh but paid man that's who you're trying to get bills taking Marcel Daria so that's good for them because he's a good player people said that was good that was a good Jake Walker going Tennessee So they get rid of a guy, this is a good point too, someone posted, not original thoughts, no original thoughts today, I guess. So they got rid of Vince Young, who had something like, I don't know, whatever his percentage was, 54% percentage completion rate. I had to get this guy, he's got a less, he's got a worse percentage rate. It's like, why'd he do that? Why not just stick with the guy? Anyway, that's just strange. ... Tyron Smith, you know, going, let's see, who else? J.J.Y. I know everybody's looking for J.J.Y. He's a big defensive end. He went to the Texans, so they got a couple defensive ends now. The Lions picked that guy, Nick Fairley, in the middle. Now they have two defensive tackles, Fairley and Su. Yeah, they're interested to see what that ends up being like. Yeah, I mean Sue is amazing I can't sue keep it up I mean there's something about a rookie guy coming out and making a big splash next year You know people gonna play as for my amazing in college So I imagine you will how about big dolphins going for a center in 15? People think that he's gonna be a guard not a center. Oh, really said he can't snap There's trouble with that. Interesting. His brother's freaking good. His brother's place, the Steelers, yeah. He's older brother's place for Steelers. But 15 for a guard? I don't know. It's a little high. I don't know. If you were able to do the draft over again like a bunch of years ago and you had the 15th pick, you'd take Nick Mangold, wouldn't you? But that's like saying, yeah, if I knew then what he'd pick up. We'd pick mid 25, I think. So? I think 15's a little high for... for they didn't address the quarterback issue at all. Yeah, but they did address offense. Yes, they gave it all. Running back, wide receiver. I mean, the guy that running back they picked by all accounts is really, really good. So the Patriots picked up an offensive lineman. How about what the Jets did? How about we stop talking around the fact? All right. Get to the frickin' Jets. Number one pick, Muhammad Wilkerson. Listen. Defensive tackle. Fuck yeah. Six four three fifteen He's got these massive arms 35 and a quarter inch Like he's a Rex Ryan said he has he has arms like de bricashaw He's like got these just wings on him like me kind of like you. Although like W Yeah, big big guy. You know, a lot of people call him a little bit junior.
01 Justin: Meaning he's not, you know, he's going to be good, but he might not be fully developed yet. And so he has some room to grow. Good. Let Rex teach him. Yeah. What do you think? First pick? I love the Hylite Reel, but the Hylite Reel makes everyone look good. I swear to God. The Hylite meal. Eating a sandwich. You could be like, boom! They're gonna eat that sandwich. It would just be really good. Um, I mean... A need? It's a need pick? Oh yeah. So it's... No, I think it's probably a little from column A, a little from column B. Um, you know, he... He definitely, um, looks the part. He's big. He played a 3-4. and just kind of, you know, here's our next Sean Ellis kind of guy. You probably get to watch Ellis and DeVito a little bit, and then probably, I assume, he'll play a little. First man's got to play. Got to play. I like to pick, from what I can see from his... size from his and from his real I you know I love the third round pick. Alright, let's go the second round pick. Well the third round pick. Alright, second round pick? No, second round pick. Antonio Camardi. Oh yeah, good pick. I mean, you know, Mike Tenamom always makes this point. He made it in one of the conferences. He's like, yeah, our second round pick was Antonio Camardi. And you think, listen, that's valid. We gave up a second round pick and we got a shut down corner. who played all last year. That's not bad, right? You can't say that's a bad thing. We had a guy who played all year long and played very well, and we got the XCA Championship with him playing for a second round pick, right? Right. And we got it in advance of the pick. Fair. Good pick. Good pick. I think it's a good pick. You know I love this guy. Yeah. Ellis out of Hampton big six five three forty six bring it Big big guy bring it so couple issues with this good fat We know we got we got some so this there's one thing he's involved in a court case which goes don't care Well, apparently apparently the story is that someone was going after his girlfriend and he defended himself. But he beat the fuck out of somebody. So, um, yeah? Fat. Big fat guy. Fat. What is that? Fat. You're horrible. Stop looking down. I just love it. He's fat. I love it. Just put him in the middle. Yeah, no, he's... So yeah, basically a replacement for Jenkins. If he listens. He's gonna squash me. Yeah, I think he listens. He's like I gotta get ingrained in the Jets community He takes shit bigger than you did he probably does yeah, probably stick. Oh my god He's shit's probably he can lose you he can lose you and like under his arm under his arm flaps Yeah, so you know a big guy and then hopefully he can doesn't go to jail for the chess. He fits in perfectly. What are you talking about? So then we jump down
00 Justin: to our fourth round pick, which I think is probably the one that I go the most. Out of every pick, this is the one I kind of thought, I get it, you know, with a question mark. Running back, Belau Powell. Is that it? Belau Powell? Belau. Belau Powell. Powell. So it's a tongue twister. 5-11, 2-07, um, what did he play, Louisville? I saw his highlight reel. Oh it's good. The only thing I didn't see is he didn't get hit a lot. Like it was like he'd get the ball and then he'd break away. He'd get the ball and he'd break away. I watched about, it was a four minute video, I watched three minutes of him getting the ball and breaking away. No one ever touched him. He wasn't like super speed, Superman. But then one or two at the end. You look he got hit He got hit again, he turned, and then he kept going. I thought, okay, those are good highlights. So I don't know, that's, you know. You know what Balala is? Thomas Jones. No, you know what he is? Fourth string running back. You need a fourth running back. Running backs get hurt. Yeah. It happens, and you can always, you know, Well, Kudelisarangri is not the guy who you're just gonna put everything on, right? He's got... He's a situational guy. He's not going to have 1500 yards a season. He's not that guy, right? He's guy who needs someone else to shift off and this is where the NFL seems to be going now If you have more and more teams are doing the two down two back sets, so You know, it's always good to have another guy. What does it say about McKnight? Nothing? Nothing? I mean nice sort of on the Rungbacks have like a three-year lifespan unless they're Lydani and Tom or Thomas Jones. You mean two of the players were on the jet? Well that's what I mean. It's like how many running backs really last that long? Curtis Martin. You're talking about Hall of Fame guys. I mean it doesn't make it. Well it will. But you know running backs are you draft them in the third round and then you use them up and then you draft. more in the third round. Yeah, no, I mean, I just, this is the one I, you know, could we get in the pass rusher here instead of running back? Yeah, you know, that's like, that's where I played probably this way. In the fifth round, that's right, fifth round, yep, fifth round, we picked up Jeremy Curley, basically a slot receiver. Special Teamer. Special Teamer aka maybe gonna be a slot receiver. Reminds me of um I think like uh like uh not at homes Moss type of guy maybe or or... What did TCU they threw the ball around. Yeah. Their quarterback was drafted. You know we definitely need wide receivers. I think the problem with this is it makes the JET fans go... Are we losing more receivers? We have Brad Smith. We'll probably lose Brad Smith. This guy might step in and do some of that stuff. Kick return is not that important anymore. They're kicking from the 35 now. Oh, that's true. Sort of limits his role a little bit. So you don't think he's going to be wyerson? You go into the three years, right?
01 Justin: So any three years. So we'll see this guy in two years. See if he's good. Yeah. All right. He'll play some special teams, probably. And then so we traded up for that guy, which is a little interesting Special and then we dropped out of the six and we got two sevens Yeah, so our first one which he actually said he's gonna do ten mom said I'm gonna pick a quarterback a year So he picks a quarterback Greg meko Roy McElroy McElroy. Guy with a national championship. Yeah, no. I mean, watching his highlight, you know, one of the guys though said with I forgot what the quote was, it's like with a limited physical ability. I was like, really? Well, what I loved was when they were comparing Christian Ponder to like Chad Pennington in the first round. It's like. that's the best you could compare him to when you don't know what he is that's pretty awful because usually it's like they can make a young Ben Roethlisberger he's a young John Elway or you know my favorite was Cam Newton they they were prepared they compared him to they said Cam Newton could be like another another Vic another young and another uh young Vic and this one other guy I forgot the guy, Vic Young and someone else. And I was like, so these people who I think have won a total of two playoff wins and all three of them combined, like one who's not even who got just kicked off a team, I don't know if that would have been my combination of adding Cam Newton up. because basically... I forgot how the third guy was. It was basically three guys who haven't really done much. Like Donte Culpepper? No, that would be bad. Steve McNair? No. They always compare black quarterbacks to black quarterbacks and white quarterbacks to white quarterbacks. Cam Newton. That's another Peyton Ann. That's another Akili Smith. It's like really? It's another Peyton Ann. Can you imagine that? It's just like Cam Newton. I think it's another Peyton Ann. Another Peyton. It's another Peyton. Definitely Tom Brady. This is another Tom Brady Peyton Ann. kind of guy. Yeah. How many does a bunch of racist pigs have in this? I think that my fellow broadcasters are yeah, I mean they're like he could either be another bust like like Jamarcus Russell, they don't mention like Ryan Leaf. No. Or Tim Couch. They mentioned, you know, the black one. It's terrible. It's terrible. It's so stupid. I could have been the name of this podcast. The black one. It's so stupid. I mean there were there are plenty of white quarterback busts. right there with them. So, I don't know, what do you think? This the third guy, bye bye Kellen Clemens. Goodbye Kellen, maybe goodbye Bernal. Don't really mind drafting a quarterback in the seventh round, whatever. Hopefully we'll never see him. Hopefully he'll never play. No, hopefully after... four or five years he's good and we either we were ready to we won't even know no he'll never play that's the hope that you never ever see there's a quarterback who just won the Super Bowl who sat for four years leaving yeah but he sat behind a guy who was in the league for 20 years yeah and was old like Sanchez was in his second third coming into the third year
04 Justin: I want to see Mark Sanchez start every game for the next 10 years. Done. Thank you. So you never want to see this happen? Ever! We'll see him play. Mop up. Mop up in the fourth quarter when we're beating the Bills by 38. Preseason. Preseason. There you go. Make a touchdown pass against the Giants. Almost the last pick of the draft. He doesn't even have a picture on the fucking website. Scotty! Scotty! Scotty don't know! Scotty McKnight! Basically... This is the we like to call this the Sanchez pick. Hey, you got a best friend who's in the draft We have the fourth to last pick you know, you know, you've known it since you're eight years old You work out with them in the all-star. Yeah, sure Whatever great Five eleven one eight two. So this guy oh let's compare him to a black guy. No, let's compare it away in Quebec He's a smoker. He's a Come back. Don't compare to a guy in the peak. Tim Dwight. You fuck. He's a wild guy. He's a... What? Wait, that's wild guy. That's wild guy. Oh man. Memories. Anyway, um, yeah? So what do you think? I don't really care. I don't know who this guy is. I'm sorry. If he makes the team great, whatever. He probably won't make the team. Alright, so give me an overall... He did a really nice job. The first couple picks I think are going to help almost immediately. Like the first round pick, the third round pick, I imagine I can see them playing. And then the rest of the guys have potential, special teams guys, you know, third, fourth string running back. Someone gets hurt. some, you know, some... Insurance there, the quarterback fine, seventh round, that's fine. I hope to see another Tom Brady. Another Tom Brady. No, I think they did a really nice job. Give me a grade. Hard to say because I don't know the guys, but like, plus, A- No one knows the guys. I mean, I thought they were going to come out with three players. They came out with like six. So they always say, so they came with six guys. If three of those guys, if 50% of these guys played this next year and helped us win games, then it's the most phenomenal drive ever. I can see the first two and the first receiver we picked playing on special teams. It's going to be in the kicker turner and the power turner. That's it. Yeah, they're running back maybe if someone gets hurt. Who knows? What else? He decides to retire. Yeah. Alright. Alright, let's talk about the other guys. What about some other teams here? The AFC East? Yeah, let's go. What do you want to go with? Alright, where do you want to go? Let's go with the Pats. Pats had a lot of picks. Yes. So their first pick was Odd. they pay an offensive lineman who I think they actually for this guy they said that was a stretch. He was a big dude. Oh he's replacement for Matt Leight. Well they picked a lot of offensive linemen didn't they? They picked like two or three. Well they got two two. Yeah they were they had a weird draft they picked
04 Justin: Two running backs. Basically, I'm looking at every one of their picks and it's from somebody. Pick one is from the Raiders, pick two is from the Panthers, pick three is from the Saints, pick... Every one of their picks was from somebody else. Because it shows what they like to trade around. You know, I think the interesting point is, where is the guy who's going... The hardest thing that the pitchers didn't do, and I think they weren't good at last year, was rushing the passer. They almost never got to the quarterback. In fact, when they blitzed, the quarterback rating was I think over 104. So when they blitzed the quarterback. They picked one outside linebacker. So then it's like, are you really helping the thing that you're hurting at? And they picked a lineman who was not going to even play this year. Right, because he's got like lymphoma or something. You know, picking another, Ross Eye, how do you even pronounce that? What do you mean, how do you pronounce that? Go ahead. It's pronounced how it's said. Ross-eye. Razzie? Ross-eye? Ross-eye Dowling. Razz. defensive backs. Two running backs? In a row. In a row. It's weird because they have a crowded backfield as it is. Do you think Woodhead will be back? I think that he'll be back, but I don't know if he'll be back in the position that they do as much. He played really well for them. He did. I don't know if that's, again, something that they want to... Bet their future on this. The Jarvis Greenhouse was pretty good too. They had a good little One-two there and then they picked two running backs. Very odd. Yep A tight end. Ryan Mallett quarterback that might be there. QB of the future. You never know. He was pretty decent in college. Huge! This guy's 6'7". Yeah, they compare him to Drew Bledsoe. Not your Marcus Russell. Bledsoe wasn't 6'7". He was a big deal. He was like 6'3", 6'4". He was not 6'7". Like Vinnie. 6'7". Vinnie was a big boy. Vinnie was like 6'6", 6'7". 6'7". I mean, that is huge. Are we going to get like 7' tall quarterback? Like a 7'er. Well it's funny because what's his face is that tall? The guy in the Ravens. quarterback for the Ravens names escaping me right really what's his name you're looking at me you don't know how you made me have a brain fart yeah I know the Ravens quarterback whose name is really the big god damn it who cares he's like six seven six eight and he you know he they made like a big deal like he doesn't throw the ball right because he's so tall and it doesn't come out of his hands like correctly because he's so tall. I was like, what do you mean? That makes absolutely no sense. I'm saying 6-0 the big guy. Alright, so what do you think? Patriots? Thoughts? Yeah, I don't think they did that good to be honest. Joe Flacco by the way. I don't know why I was escaping. Let's talk about the Bills.
00 Justin: I love talking about the Bills. So the Bills, I talked to some Bills fans. God, they loved their draft. Of course they did. They picked like a million guys. Any quarterbacks they pick? No quarterbacks. Oh no, no quarterbacks. They're fine with the Fits. With Fitsy? They're fine with the Fits. They like the fits. Oh, but come on man. You know what? I commend them. He's on his third team. I commend them for... they had the third pick and they said, you know what? Nobody is worth picking at number three and that's cool. And then they figured, you know what? We're not gonna get any better. Anyone better. in the second round than what we already have. So we're just gonna deal with it and we can do something maybe next year, whatever. Well, they didn't have a problem scoring points last year. No, they really didn't. They were probably stopping people for scoring points. And their offensive line was terrible. Right. So, I mean, they did, but then you start off with a defensive tackle, fine. Sure. Then you get a corner. Well, they couldn't stop to run. Then you get a linebacker, then another corner. Yeah, they addressed defense. Then a running back, because they do have running back. issues they're always like they just picked one in the first round last year yeah so yeah so our friend Jackson's not too bad so then a DB and a defensive tackle fat guy at the end there I think the bills did okay whoa six four three 94 whoa whoa we should have drafted that guy I wanted that guy fuck this little running this little wyra zero Fuck Scotty McKnight, whatever the hell. We should have gotten to 394 dude. Yeah, Michael Jasper He's another Drew Bredswell. All right, so uh Bill Did pretty well, it's just interesting quarterback because quarterback is something they're gonna struggle with But whatever maybe they just figured they picked a quarterback and they have this I wonder how many people are thinking about the lockout and again if you can't get your if you pick a new quarterback You can't get that quarterback in Well, the draft is also difficult this year because usually the agency had started already and you sort of got a You got a feel for Like who you were gonna lose and who you might gain or you may have already lost guys and you may have 30 sign guys so your team isn't It's in sort of more in flux this year. They'll win more or less games than they did last year? Well, they win four games. Three or four? They might win five or six. Okay. I think they'll be improved. Second year under that system with a little more familiarity with the quarterback. They had like a couple of decent guys step up last year. They just have no line. on either side. But it doesn't seem like they fully addressed that. They picked up a couple pieces, but these are rookies. These aren't guys who are going to start immediately and start making your line solid. Yeah. So, you know. Takes a little time. So, dolphins. To the fins. To the fins. So, the dolphins have traditionally, like in the last couple years, other than when they picked Jake Wong, who was probably the best pick they've had in the last six years.
03 Justin: Definitely. Like Jake Long is the pick, right? If you look at all their drafts, and they've got a lot of top drafts, they've done really badly. Again, full disclosure, likes to dole in his fans, I do pay attention to the fans a little bit more than normal. I don't know, I think it's a little high to pick a center, or a guard in the first round, 15th pick. I don't know, that's just me. But maybe they just felt the value there, and you know. I'm surprised they didn't go for Ingram. I think Dolphin fans that I was talking to all wanted Ingram at 15. I have heard that the guy that they picked Daniel Thomas in the second round here, better, is just as good a pick if not a better pick than picking Ingram. And you get him in in the second round. and they got the offensive line in the first round, which will help them. I mean, they... So you don't think he's going to play center? I have heard that he's not completely comfortable snapping the ball in the shotgun. So they may have drafted him to play center, but he might play guard like his rookie here and then move him to center, that kind of thing. Let him get more familiar with NFL. and whatnot. What's his face? Still a running team. I'm just saying. And who's going to throw the ball? The guy's got more than the most, he's an inconsistent thrower. Still a running team. He's giving me all the good reasons. All the good reasons but I just don't know if that is... It's Sperano still there. Yeah, Sperano's still there. This is the Sperano that they literally said, we are interviewing someone else and then they get Sperano. So they pick up whatever, pouncy. I have no idea who the rest of these guys are. They pick up a wide receiver, they definitely is a knee. They picked up a tight end, I think that's a knee. Yeah, four-round wide receivers. Oh. Let's see, you know, seventh round defensive back. I don't know if that's a big deal. I think it's okay, not a lot of players, certainly. I mean, to walk away with six players. for a bad team. For a bad team to walk away with six players, I don't know if that's enough. And only, you know, only three players in the first five rounds. So it's like, you know, you're walking away with six players, but three of them are from the sixth and two and the seventh. Right. And then those guys aren't generally, sixth and seventh round guys, you're only really walking away with. first, a second, and a fourth. Where did their picks go? Where did their picks go? They gave it two I thought for Brandon Marshall.
03 Justin: So I don't know. Again, it doesn't seem like they walked away with a lot for a team that needs more than a team. I mean the Bills walked away with a lot of players. is what they needed. A lot of players and if half of them are pros then good. The bills filled out the roster. Well good for that. We on the other hand are in a different position. We made the championship game two years in a row and we are filling in little gaps in the team. We're not like rebuilding the whole team. We have the cornerstones in place. We're just filling in little gaps here and there which is... quarterback, center, left tackle, corner wide receiver, running back. We've got the back bone, the core of the team set and now we get to cherry pick, like, all right, we want a big fat guy. All right, we need a defensive end. Lineback is one of the things I thought they, I think that that's sort of a need that we didn't go after. Yeah, they could have picked an outside linebacker. I mean, you know, with... Well, with Scott and Harris in the middle, they're in the middle. But you got Pace on one side and Thomas on the other. I think they could have used another guy there. But you never know what will happen. In the free agency. You have no idea what's going to happen. So one of the things is that if the NFL goes back to, this is an interesting point, if the NFL decides, if they get killed, if the lockout gets ended by the judge again, which is possible in the next week. or so and they say it's final, that's it, you got to go back. Then the NFL gets to decide what rules they go back to. Now one of the things they could do is go back to the 2010 rules. Which I want them to do. Well, wait a second. That's the free agency rules as well. Remember, the free agency had the final four rules. Oh, I don't like those rules. Yeah, which means we can't pick anybody up unless we who's somebody. Yeah, but we can sign our own guys. Yeah, but we can't pick up anybody if we can sign our own guys though. I really just want to sign our guys is everybody well Yeah, I want to make sure commodities back I want to make sure that homes is bad one make sure Breland Edwards is back Like those are like the guys I want to make sure that you like you have a team that gets to the AFC Championship, it's like why do I want to change the race on the guys? I mean Another year that Sanchez can play with Holmes and Edwards as his two starting receivers is a good thing. Well, it leaves Cottrey. I wonder if you signed Brad Smith and you got two new wide receivers coming in. I don't think they're going to sign Brad Smith. Do you have a baseband on? I do. Ugh, that kills me. I think they drafted that guy to replace him. But Brad Smith was a quarterback and running back in college who ran for over 4,000 yards and threw for over 10,000 yards. Yeah, but he doesn't throw in the pro. So forget that. Throw that out the window. He threw two twice. Throw it out the window. He threw a touchdown. Doesn't matter. Throw it out the window. Well he did. He threw it over out the window and to Keller in the end zone. Stupid. Throw it out the window. They don't do it. They do it twice a year. Great. You lose two plays a year. Wow. Wildcat's a big thing. Wildcat's a big thing. Because he was a quarterback. Sure. But you know. So we confused a shit or some offenses. You can have another guy who runs those things. Ooh.
00 Justin: You don't have to run those plays either. You have your quarterback coming into his third year now where you can actually play more traditional offense. You don't have to do the tricks. You have a guy who's, you know, all right, we're not waiting on you to win. We're not waiting on you to not lose. We're waiting on you now to win. I need one game plus tricks. Come on now. Go dry. Now this year, you're a quarterback. You have more of them. So, you know, it's no more... Smoky mirrors, it's go beat that team play football. So a couple things just rounding it up one is on the jetkingdom.com There's the poll you can vote for you can vote for who your favorite what your grade is I'm gonna do that right now. Excellent. Then you have minuses and pluses. No and Then the other thing is let's talk a little bit about our prediction So you predicted that they that Mike T the traitor Mike would move up in the first round you're wrong I predicted that he moved down. I was wrong. You predicted they would come away with three guys. Wrong. You were wrong. I predicted they would come away with five guys. I was much more right. Still wrong. No, but writer. There's no such thing as writer. You predicted they'd go more defense than offense. You were wrong. I predicted they would go more defense than offense. They went defense where it mattered. Yeah, but in players, they walked away with... four offense, three defense. Yeah, but early is where it matters. You didn't say I'm gonna wait it by the round. Oh, give me a break. The Scotty guy really doesn't count. Scotty don't know. Scotty don't count. Scotty don't count. You just got him at night. All right, well that's it. I have to give big, big. Props to Peter King for for nailing that big that's fuck you Peter King fuck you for nailing it But I'm happy we got the guy a lot of guys at the end of that round What do you want the format? Like the new format you mean the three days Well, or the ten minutes or what all things they do today to prime times now and Small or small rounds Which is last year as well. I have to say I did enjoy the first round more than I normally do. I love it. I actually love everything about it. I normally just never watch and I watched the first round and I liked it. I also liked that they were quick. Yep. Like they like the guy was picked clock started. Yeah, it was a true 10 minutes It wasn't like 10 TV minutes. It was real. A lot of people complain they don't like the They don't like that the play that that you get the guys on the phone and see the big guy pick. I was one of those people. Why? Why? I hate it. Because I don't, that's, that, I'm watching, then why do I need to see Roger Goodell come on the stage and make the pick? I don't need to see that then. I know who the pick is. Well later they stopped doing that, so. I know who the pick is. Because he's on the phone with his, whoever the f- I don't like seeing that. I like to not know and then Roger Goodell comes up and it's like, oh, all right Let me let me know because I don't know who he's been saying it can be interesting and there's no problem I'm sure Everyone knows who the picks gonna be already. They've heard you got the camera on him. They're already interviewing him. He hasn't even been picked yet
00 Justin: He's there. They're there. Yeah, he's got playbook. He's got the hat on Sometimes they had the hat there and I always wondered, they buy all 32 teams? Yeah, how do they know what size? Because they're fitted hats. How do they know what size to give these? They're all, they're all... They like adjust? I don't know. I wouldn't fit my head. I have a really small head. No, that's true.
