00:08 Justin: their women. Jake: Welcome to the Jake King podcast, the longest running New York Jets podcast ever. Period. End of story. I'm Jake. Joining me 329 mostly painful times in a row is Justin. Justin, how are you doing on this sunny as a sun pours in on my head? Thursday morning. I I remember when this used to be fun. Justin: Do you? I don't. I don't remember that. Jake: I don't know. It was like five seasons in when we were like making AFC title games and. Justin: all the all that fun stuff but otherwise yeah this is not fun we have to watch the shitty team and talk about the shitty team and. Jake: Be frustrated by the team is so bad. The one that came to mind was. Why just like you said when was it fun or i ask for a spot this magic that year that we were headed into the last game playoff bound when you're in the middle of the slide i had to argue with you all year like about why brice petty should not be playing above ryan Fitzpatrick. No, that wasn't fun. That's fun, right? That's Patrick, by the way. Still starting in the league. Still keeping rookie quarterbacks on the bench. Still Owen too. He's, that's right. Head coaches, they're falling for it. They're like, dumbass. Dumbass. Alright, so let's talk about the game last week. Yeah, we have to yeah, it was so jets it was over before it started and it was amazing Over before it started was is part of it But losing their two best players and and still not being able to beat them I was like really like how can you if you go up against Tom Brady and or the Patriots and Tom Brady and Gronk go out or I mean, I guess we're talking defense this side but like Really? This should've been a cakewalk. It should've been like, okay, putting this guy, whoever the backup is, I don't know whatever his name was, and he's not gonna be able to do anything, sack the crap out of him. I mean, I've seen these games happen before, and yet, yes, of course, the Jets have no answer on defense. Let three, one was called back for a penalty, but three, basically... end arounds that just went all the way to the house. I mean, right? And running game is no joke. It's legit known. Like if you are on a if you're on a team where I'll Shanahan, his father or him, are a coach,
03:01 Jake: they're going to run and they're going to run really well. And you know that like they're going to run the same stuff. And it's the same thing that they've been running forever since Mike Shanahan was running in Denver. It's a stretch play. And it's. works and get the right running backs in there and get the right offensive lineman and pull around and. It's a one cut system you see the you see the whole you hit it go and shit if most are didn't. Hey there on the first play and then you know there are a couple others where is like was it like third and. I don't even know what the fuck like third and fourth third like 40 or something. Justin: Thirty one. Jake: Backed up on their own ten and it's like well they're clearly just gonna hand the ball off. And they did. And it's like oh 55 yard gain. Cool. Awesome job guys. That was really jetsy. So like there are a lot of really jetsy moments in this game. Nothing good came out of it. I can't I saw zero positive things if you want to tell me that really awesome throw by Sam Darnold at the end was positive. I'd say go fuck yourself. It's not positive. He's running for his life and he's making a crazy ass throw across his body that might be picked off, you know, like that's not a positive. How concerned are you with Herndon and his drops? Well, I'm very concerned because going into this week, I think he's our number one option because everyone else has heard. So it's really concerning when, you know, not for nothing, but like Sam did make a couple of good plays in this game where like, you know, he threw a touchdown pass in my opinion to Chris Herndon. It just hit him right in the face and fell on the floor. Like, that was a great play. Like Sam's running for his life again, rolling out to his right. Rifles a pass in hits Chris Herndon, right. It goes right through his hands and the chest and falls on the ground. It's like, what else can you do? What else can you actually do? Justin: Like, that's as most as you can do. Right. Get the ball right to the guy. You're supposed to catch it. That's his only job. Catch balls. Jake: So come on, man. And you know what the worst part of this game, I was looking through the stats before the show. Actually doing some research. Did you talk to our status station? I did. And he's lying on your couch. He didn't give me a lot. So, but the turnovers. zero fumber for the jets zero fumbles zero turnover we are awful and what did i what did i say we needed to do what i say we need to do to win the game play perfect game whatever this game was totally winnable if you went and think it was gonna blow out but didn't have to be this could have been this could have been a winnable game. And just we didn't turn the ball over like just had to like three plays There's the there's the fourth and one that they put in instead of putting a Frank or who can get one yard sleeping like dead asleep he can get a yo wait let's talk about hold on hold on that's a great point.
06:10 Jake: That is the Adam Gates genius on display. In the worst way possible. Because on that fourth and one play, right? Like you said, you got Frank Gore who can fall. Go ahead. So let's stop for a second. Let's stop for a second. Did you agree with the fourth and one? The go forward? Oh, absolutely. The going forward. Screaming on the bench. Me too. I was screaming on the bench. I'm screaming on the couch. Go for it. Yeah. Be aggressive. go for it, like let's go. And I don't even disagree with the play call necessarily, like you should be able to run for a yard. Like I don't mind. I mind when there's no like, here's what I mind, where your best player at that position at this moment is not the one executing, that I'm like, it pisses me off because you're right, Frank Gore. could fall forward for a yard. It's what he's done his whole career. 15, 16 years in the league, he's accumulated so many, I'm sure he's accumulated so many third and one and fourth and one conversions over the course of his career. He might have the most, who knows? Like he's played that long. But the GACE thing... Is like i'm gonna put this guy adams Into the game josh adams it's gonna be the only play that he even plays so they won't even think that we're gonna even go near him with the ball And then you hand him the ball and what do you what do you think happens he goes nowhere so like Genius genius stuff dude fucking guru Well, he went his entire he was it. Yeah, the entire game. That was it for zero yards. His his stat line is zeros except for the it even bought me that like in a game where we got blown out and we really did it was you know, 31 six like scored the last touchdown, whatever like. Hate those those last touchdown like oh, yeah Why is it though in a game where we get blown out? That Frank Gore had 21 rushing attempts like When did like a belga 21 rushing attempts last year in any game like whether we were in it out of it like whatever like Like they always went away from the run and started passing like crazy And I'm like, I'm like watching this fucking horseshit game plan of like, handing the ball off on every first and 10 and every second, every second. Right up the middle too. Right up the middle, just watching them go into and when seeing it not work and then keep trying it. The other thing we heard, you know, through the rumor mill or whatever watching some of the post commentary stuff and yes, I did. It's a little weird only having Bart Scott do the post commentary. Guys, I know you had a it's just him. Well, with you know, the other guy,
09:04 Jake: but like, just him feels a little weird that they should have more people so they can, I know, maybe social distancing, I know they fired Ray Lucas, or didn't hire him or did something, it just seems stupid of one guy there. I get a mobile guys at least have some opinions, right? It's like, what one guy says one thing, but to have the like moderator go, so what do you think? And he's like, Yeah, they suck. And he goes, Okay, so back to me. It's like, put more Justin: I know Brian's got the big personality, but there's room for two. Jake: But you need more than one and they had it when they had a couple going. Anyway, a two things. One was that Sam was not given the option to check that play into something else at the fourth and one. And I still feel like this is the this is the world where he should be able to step up, see them loading the box and be like and check it into something else like have two plays. and maybe one's a quick pass because there's no one out there, a double back, reverse, whatever. That and then the other one was that on that play, one of the big run plays, I think the big 55 yarder, no, we were, you know, for third and 31. Avery It was.,, Thank you for watching and see you next week. We just resigned him. We just gave him more. If he's not, then why is he on the field? I'm not super like, I'm whatever about that. You know, Avery Williamson is in the news for another reason. If you've been following the Jets Twitter yesterday, he was on the radio and he was asked about that. you know, what's up with that? And, um, you know, he, he, his quote got taken out of context. So I went back and listened to it. He was basically asked about something that McDougal had said, you know, McDougal having just come over from Seattle. And they had asked him a question, I guess, after the game, and he said, we're not even winning in practice. Like, This is crap. Like we don't practice well like he you know, he's coming over from Seattle where I'm sure they practice very well and are very well organized and like have their shit together because they're a good team and He's basically like he kind of shit on the chance. He's like we don't even win in practice like talk about the defense Which is sad because the offense is awful so like if the defense is not beating the offense in practice like who are you gonna be right so that's nobody pathetic so then someone asked every woman said about that is like hey what do you think about this like
12:06 Jake: So you're not winning in practice and he said something to the impact of yeah, I agree Like we're not playing a win in practice and they like Got out there that Avery Williams and said like we don't play to win like on defense and it's already said He was basically saying we kind of suck at practice like Like either they don't try or they don't have a good. I don't know what it is, but like Sounds shitty to me your coaching problem sounds like This whole game was a big coaching problem. I mean they lost so many players on both sides of the ball offensive line to the third center by the end of the game. They lost their two defensive ends. They lost their quarterback for Christ's sake. They had no receivers out there. Literally none. Jordan Reed who. Hasn't played in two years ripping us up for two touchdowns like Justin: What the fuck man like both sides of the ball are gonna suck like this. I Jake: Really really didn't think the defense was gonna be this bad So on your on your fire Gaze scale one one to ten ten being how you felt about, I mean, I haven't, no, I'm trying to think of a coach at OneFire. It was worth an ups to mind. This is in the rich Kote level of firing. No, there's no, there's no, tell me since Rich Kote. I mean, honestly, it's, it's 0 and 4. It's only, I mean, I thought, I thought he was fired on Monday. I really didn't. Justin: can't fire you can't fire a can you can do it every one but no obviously this guy has Jake: some sort of spell over chris johnson or something no i mean i know we're listen i'm i'm the fanatic crazy person fire everybody blah blah blah but you can't look at a season as a as as an owner, if you're looking at a Remember this two sides this is two sides of the firing there's the what the fans want fire everybody and get rid of them and get new people but then there's also the the team that has to go hire and so if you hire if you're gonna go out to the market next time and hire somebody. You have to say you know here's why we fired this last person because you're hiring the next person to come in. the basically one season and two games. So like, cause I, if I'm a head coach coming to the New York jets and I'm like, well, not only are you a trash fire organization, but wait, you gave him one season and two games. He was only 0 and 2, like you overreacted and then coaches don't want to come to us. So honestly, as much as I want him gone. I think you have to go 0 and 4. I think 0 and 4 that shows look you're just you're lost. We have 4 games.
15:02 Jake: I mean you are I think you are severely underestimating um the smarts of whoever it is that would come in and interview to just recognize the fact that Adam Gace is a trash fire like Like, okay. True, but you're on the other side of it. You're on the other side of it, and you go through one season, and then you only get two games the next season to show that you do anything. Again, well, maybe I would hope that the next guy is smart, and I don't want to make it so we can't hire anybody good, because they just look at the dresses a bad organization. I just want Rex Ryan back, that's all. Justin: Just give me Rex Ryan back, I'll be happy. Jake: The only thing about finding someone super early, you could then go hire somebody. You could actually go hire an interim, not just promote, promote towards the end of the season. It's like, oh, it's 12, 13. Kind of hire someone. No, I always like to promote. But usually, like... you But they never bring them a new no it's very very never really happens you might bring in like someone to assist you like from outside because. If case goes the offense coordinator goes also low games so i think great williams has to be the head coach and you need to two coordinators. Um, like that you either promote from within or you go out and get or whatever. Um, I mean, the team would be a complete mess. So I don't think they're gonna end up firing at them. Gaze for that reason because they can't put this franchise quarterback into That position of like, all right, here's your third coach in three years. And by the way, you don't even have an offensive coordinator like good luck kid I don't know, letting him sit behind with this game plan and with Adam Gace. I watched his, you know, I can't watch him. I hate him so much. I cannot watch his post game. I watched a clip on Twitter because someone was like, oh, look at the way he, because he was saying that they were moving the ball in the first half. And you're like, really? You were moving the ball? Where do you think you're on the sidelines, you're passing around? What was it that you were wanting to 20 that you thought you know? They moved. Anyway, so I watched it and I swear and I know it's terrible, but those taco eyes, man, they're still there. He's But those And if you're at that field, maybe you just don't see the see what's going on in the field. Maybe you're looking over here. Look at the play. No, the plays over here, dude. I don't think it's the guys I honestly just think over his head and's and's and, and's and's
18:24 Jake: I Yeah, never never coach the game. Those were fucking idiots. It's. , all Let's pick your fool a game. Who is it that you that you want to blame the most for the loss of this game? Drop pick a name out of a hat. They're all they're all miserable. Everybody was terrible. What can I say? I don't think anyone really played a good game. Ah, come on a, come on defense offensive line. Say a lot of middle coming from like, you know, backups, uh, against our starters, which, I guess, I don't know, Becton looked good on film afterwards. Like, there's all these videos of Mackay Becton, like, being the best for tea. So, good on us for drafting our left tackle. Yay. Umm... Yeah yeah always he's like a not a not a one year wonder it's like okay working like he's easy there for 10 years. Give me three or-four coaches come in and out he should still be there so who's your who do you think did the work. Yeah, I'm just gonna double up on that. I'm just so disappointed from seeing him where I just thought he was like, he was the guy. I thought he's gonna be the guy who we're gonna have who's just reliable, throw the ball his way. He's the, and that play, and he's had a couple big drops, big drops and fumbles, like in two games, you're dropping balls and fumbling balls like. No, like that's not that's not your number one tight end. That's a liability at this point. And what point does Sam just look at him and go, I'm not throwing your way anymore. Like I'll throw it to some other little dude who catch the ball and you know, actually pull it in. It's really annoying to me that we that like the guy who came in for Jimmy G and played the second half Nick Mullins. was drafted in the same draft as Sam Darnold or might've been an undersh, might've been just undrafted, I don't know. But like, man, is that really sick. Where are you on the Sam Darnold P scale? The P scale is, you know, you're peeing a little bit because you're scared. Zero to 10, zero being totally fine. Sam is great. We did not make a mistake. It's the greatest. 10 is, ho crap. P is dripping out of my pants. I'm extremely worried about this guy. I'm starting looking at drafts for next year. Who can we pick up from Clemson?
21:00 Jake: Zero to 10. Somewhere in the middle, like a five or maybe even leaning towards a six because it is your three. Weapons be damned, you know? You can't be a Web Kylo murray's playing really well all of a sudden in his second year. Josh Allen looks great. Lamar Jackson looks great. Patrick Mahomes looks great. Deshaun Watson generally looks great. We could have drafted most of those guys. I think every single guy just said we could have drafted with the exception of Kylo Murray. So like that's the thing, right? You look around the league and you're like, well, these young guys are playing pretty well. Is it just the situation is awful? Or is it Partly on the player to like make some of the guys around him better. I don't know but Man, it's time. I'm more. I'm more. What have you seen? I mean, I think I try to be optimistic about it But it's like what actually like when Sam gets the ball, right? And And and and we're down And you need to drive and you need to pick up on like, do you feel like, all right, we're getting that? Like, no, I don't feel it. I don't feel that. I that's why I'm a three, not a zero. I don't have the oh crap. Like, I'm trying to think of like, when you watch a team, when you watch a game with a really bad quarterback, like when we done with backups, we've seen we've seen some of the worst backups in the league probably ever. ever hit the field right we seen fails we see price petty we've seen we seen some of the worst backups ever hit the field and i can tell you when there's a snap the ball and they don't hand it off i will my sphincter just tightens right up like oh crap oh crap oh crap like here i know what's gonna happen it's me a fumble it's gonna be a full-on interception it's And I can't see them ever throw the ball like they just look lost. I never see Sam look lost. I never see him look like he doesn't know what's going on. I don't think he looks lost. I think he looks lost like where is anybody helping me out? Where is somebody who throws the ball? Same time. Like. He's still got to read the news. He knows when to run. He's a smart kid. I think this is 80% environment and players. And if we went through all those other rookies, I'd be like, well, okay, who are the weapons around them to make them look better? And also, what's the game plan? A lot of looking Adams, Alan, sorry, and half his game plan is better. No, man,
24:00 Jake: he threw for 400 plus yards against Miami and Fort no against that no in game two, he threw 400 something yards and four touchdowns and ran for 20. So like, yeah, dude can sling it like That's an issue. That's a problem that bills actually developed a quarterback and the Jets can't. Yeah. Like, and if I'm being honest with you, in year three, I felt I felt better about Mark Sanchez in year three than I do about Sam Darnold. Mark Sanchez brought us back in fourth quarters of games. He won games in fourth quarters. He had a winning record. Like we made the playoffs. I know the defense was better and I know he had like guys around him in a real deal offensive line those all make a big difference. Well rookie and head coach like we didn't know i'm and by the way guy who got fired doesn't work in the league anymore ten years later so. by all accounts a mediocre head coach. That's where I'm at. So if you're saying like, okay, and you're three, did you feel better about Sanchez of Darnold? I'm saying I felt better about Mark Sanchez. That's a problem You're going in Mark Sanchez, I'd like to see what he did Going in what did he end up doing though that you're like, you know, I mean, I'm only two games into the third season So I'm telling you like two games into the third season. I felt a lot better about Mark Sanchez than I did about Sam Donald Yeah, I mean, Mark Sanchez for his third season, eighth, he went eight and eight. He had his worst season to the three. I'm just seeing what his stats were. 3,400 yards, 26 touchdowns. Yeah, let's see. And only 18 picks. I'm serious. Is this a problem? A QBR 44 rating of 78. It wasn't really a good quarterback that year. Different game, by the way, 10 years ago, like throwing the ball was actually different. Yeah. All right. Well, then look, I'm just I think that's the overreaction jets thing we do all the time. This is the past is to let someone go. You have to you always have to see this season it is his third season. I'm not a He made the he made the Super Bowl like and
27:03 Jake: But by the way, Sam Darnold, three comebacks and four game winning drives in his history at the Jets. So it's there for game winning drives. Okay. Well, you know, does he do it? Does he do it or not? He's winning his completion percentage. That's how much that's him. How much quarterback gets the glory quarterback kind of has to fall. His completion percentage this year is higher than it was last year. I mean, the production isn't there again. Like you can throw to nobody. If I told you that we'd go in with two wide receivers on the field and no bell, how many games do you think we're going to win? If I told you Frank was the number one running back, and we're not going to have any wide receivers, how many wins do you think we're going to get? Let's get brought back for a minute. Is that Adam Gase's fault? Now? So now we're on no, no, it goes up. It goes up with you. It goes up to Douglas, but Douglas is gonna say, Look, I came in halfway through. Remember, you fired somebody after the draft, which is, you know, general manager after the draft, you didn't had me come in, I've only been there for a year, literally a year now, or maybe a year and three months, remember, he was hired in the June, July time period. So like, he'd be like, Look, dude, I've barely been here. Like, I've barely been here. I've been responsible for one draft. My number one pick has been pretty good so far, right? Like we think he's being called all sorts of things that too is hurt right now. But okay, hurt is hurt. You know, we don't know. Mims is supposed to be good. So he's like, look, I've made I got you a good backup. I didn't do the bell thing. That wasn't me. So I don't know, I think I think at this point, you can't go into the game with like no receivers. Like you can't just be like, all right, I'm sorry, they're all injured. It's like, no, dude, you like let all right for all. You have to get you got to get Justin: something. I shot. Jake: Perman and we had we have we have we have we have picks. Don't we have two first round picks in the next two years? So isn't there some team that's got some wide receiver that like wants to give it? It's actually a known thing. It's Alan Robinson on the Bears. That's the guy. That's the guy that's available and sort of wants out of Chicago and has been linked to the Jets because I don't know why he would want to come here, but that's not obtain if it's not obtained if it's trade, so they're kind of making the parallel. you know, this could be the Brantlin Edwards, you know, when you brought him in like three or four weeks in and, you know, he, Alan Robinson is a pretty decent player. He's about 27 years old, so wouldn't be a bad thing to go to, but I don't think he'd give up a first round pick for Alan Robinson. No, thanks. Meanwhile, you know, those, those
30:01 Justin: Two first rounders that they grab from seattle looks great for the jet still since two first rounders but i think seattle might just go in super bowl with your mom and then just have a blast. Jake: Whatever the long way off to answer but yeah i listen i agree i but i'm not i can't. I'm at two two years two games. I can't say Sam is not because we all ended the season last year saying that's it We've seen it. We've seen him do the games. We've seen him play great When he had the weapons, you know, they ever did the we won the last six of the nine games Like everybody did all that after came back from mono Blah blah blah blah blah at this point To me, it doesn't look as much Sam looks much more coaching and then Douglas, he doesn't know a case out of their own guy. Who the hell knows? By the way, have you seen what Robbie Anderson has done? Our liner? First? Yeah, it's a mistake. That was a mistake. I mean, but like on regardless, when you have been the greatest person ever and you wanted him forget what he's forget that yes, I wanted him gone. The point is He just put up 200 yard games in a row on a team with Teddy Bridgewater playing quarterback. Like why couldn't we have the consistency out of that guy? And then you say, well, because our coach sucks. Like it just leads back to that. Like all of these guys who have played under Adam Gase, like Ryan Tannehill looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the league right now. Seriously, like how does that guy look so much better without this guru as a coach? The one thing I would the one thing I would say that the argument for bringing Robbie back, although he was a cancer and so it's not going to need to I don't need to like whatever would be saying. guys look better when they leave would be consistent would be consistency, right? If you're trying to develop a quarterback and you say, Well, what's the thing that makes a good quarterback, right? Or makes a young quarterback feel good? Well, it's usually consistency. It's like guys, he knows who he's played with who he's worked with. And Robbie Anderson was at least the guy who played with his first two years. And even if he's a shitbag, like He would be a guy that you could say, okay, he doesn't have to keep changing. If you look at the people now, Parraman, Malone, Hogan, Crowder, Barrios. Okay, Hogan, they're all new except for Crowder who came in last year. All new guys. Yeah, apparently he's had like 26 different receivers in his first two plus years so far. So if I'm if I'm you know if I'm making a case for why Sam needs more help is give him more consistency. You know if you say okay was had herndon for a couple years but last year so. Exactly so where is his consistency is lines been shaken up every year in front of him is never had a consistent line.
33:02 Jake: You know, coordinators, head coaches, I think that's what we will end up doing to him. It'll be the saddest thing the world will end up doing to Darnell, that we, you know, just keep switching out quarters, keep switching out offensive coordinators, plans, programs, people, he'll never have that consistency. I mean, fucking Larry Fitzgerald is still playing on the Cardinals. I saw him like come in for some third and whatever. And I was like, see, that's a guy. It's like he here's a trustable guy. Who are you going to throw to that guy? He'll catch it like he's going to catch it. Don't worry about it. So I agree. They need if if they lose the next game and either they say, hey, we're we're tanking this season, but not having any wide receivers. I got to say it is really frustrating. And I'll take this away from Sam and I'll just say it as a fan of the organization that is the Jets. Yeah, it is really frustrating to see how other teams have gone about developing all these quarterbacks that have been drafted in the last three or four years and how most of those teams. have gone ahead and rebuilt their whole team around that guy's skill set. Instead of what I see the Jets doing, which is Adam Gaze, the dictator, the I know best, the I'm the only one who can call the play and you're not allowed to change a guy. Doing things his way and making Sam learn his offense as opposed to like. Thank you. Do you think Baltimore with Joe Flacco was running this offense that Lamar's running? No. They had to change their whole game up. The same thing with Arizona. I mean, shit, they hired a new coach because they realized they needed a new coach. And then they went ahead and drafted a quarterback in the next year, first round after they just did it the previous year because the new coach could build something around that guy, not the other guy. Like, why are we doing this? What are Sam's strengths? Let's play to them. He's a pocket fucking he's a pocket passer. He's Patrick Patrick Holmes. He's Patrick Mahomes. Light. He can move. He can roll. He can improvise. He's a gunslinger. You know what you need to do? Have him push the fucking ball down the field. Give them five seconds. Give them sorry. Give them a five step drop. Give them, you know, two point seven, five seconds to throw the fucking ball once in a while, push down the field like let's see it. And we have every time shit play of like second and 10. And it's like, OK, let's roll right and throw for two yards. Like, what the fuck is that? Like, are you really using the skills of the players?
36:00 Jake: I mean, is that the best we have? I mean, okay, well, let's roll right and throw for two yards. Cool. Third and eight. Third down and eight. Not a lot of good, not a lot of good plays for fourth and seven. It's like, what's your second and seven play? Like run that one, you know. Dog shit. All right. Let's talk. Let's get to the pick. Um, how we all do last week. You did it. You pulled out a nine burger. I pulled out an eight best of the week was Sam's the man, I guess a Sam, but with 11 very good, but UK jet life leads off with 22 of us at 18 and then a whole bunch of you back at 17. So we're only one off. That's good. Good job. Let's get to this week's picks. Remember, Jet Kingdom pick them. We pick every game with the spread and try to avoid the AFC East, which we put into our throne pick segment, which comes up right after these messages. Wait, we don't do that. Sorry. This podcast sponsored by Spotify. Let's go. Yeah, we're skipping Thursday night. which is tonight. Very good. We're recording on Thursday morning, so we'll skip that one, and we'll move right along to Sunday afternoon. Let's just check the four o'clock. What do we got? Five slate. And by the way, we're one of them. We're one of them. That's right. That's exactly right. It ruins the whole thing. Like I want there to be one four o'clock and be the Jets. Otherwise, I want lots of four clocks have choices. Of course, they would do it on the one and why is it? It's a single game for CBS. So it's not a double header week for CBS. So they must have just wanted to fill the four o'clock hour with something for certain markets. But why five they've had they've had the reason makes no sense. So like CBS has the game. I think it might even be the maybe the only amount of yes that late. I've no no no clue. But I'm getting it where I am, which is cool. All right. Anyway, well, me too. I've been noticed at the moment. All right. So moving on. Atlanta is. By the way, you're up in Europe in Massachusetts and we're 0 and 2 just saying I'm in. I'm in New York. Part of us. No, you're in the Massachusetts part of an asshole. You're an asshole. You drive like a asshole and we're 0 and 2. 0 and 2 and you're in Massachusetts. Just nope. And as long as you stay there. And in fact, when are you coming back in October sometime? Okay, if we if if you come back and we win a game this whole season on you, it's your fault. Whatever. All right. All right. Arizona is hosting Chicago. Arizona. Sorry, Atlanta. I need I need glass for this segment. Oh, wow. Atlanta's hosting Chicago. Atlanta.
39:00 Jake: Atlanta's a spectacular loss once again. Atlanta's really good at having really big leads and blowing them. So they're giving four and I think Chicago plays tight games. So I'll take the underdog. I'll take the points. Yeah, I do. I think Chicago matches up against Atlanta. I expect Atlanta to be better. I'm gonna say they did. They're so bad. It's like, yeah, they blew like a crazy ass lead. And it's like, well, that's what they do. All right. At least at least this for this week we get to watch. I do like watching the Giants and so like it's always fun to kind of have them play at a different time. But watch them in a minute. What, the bills are hosting the talk man. What the what? Wow, you suck. You suck. You suck. You suck. thought. You're like the Adam Gates. You're like the Adam Gates of his fucking segment. It's the morning. And I haven't drunk a whole cup of coffee yet. All right. I haven't gotten there yet. All right. Cleveland. All right. Let's go. Washington football team. Cleveland seven. I don't think so. Washington. 10. Agreed, I don't think Cleveland's got the horsepower to do seven. And I would say every time I see the at symbol, I'm like, oh, there. Ah, no, it doesn't matter. I mean, for some of the teams, I guess they were a little bad. I guess there's the time and the whatever in the travel. But I'm really wondering if I'd love to see the stats this year, because this is going to be an amazing statistical year to look at and to see. Does home field matter? Like does having fans and yelling and screaming really matter? They'll have all the numbers. They'll have the play counts, the snaps, the penalties, they'll have the ball starts. Third down, fourth down conversion type stuff because, and like fourth quarter defense type of things. Cause apparently like the Patriots came back on Seattle in Seattle and. It was like, yeah, they would have never been able to do that if the fans were there. Like, no fucking way. Which I think is great for the for the game of football. It's nice to know that that actually is a thing. Like, I like that. That's a thing that you can still affect the game. Like, it's one of the few sports like you can't affect the game of tennis by being there like go, Sarita. Like, no, but like this is a one of those those teams or in the sports that I. Truly believe and as a fan for a long time as someone goes all the games like you can actually affect what's happening on the field By being in the stands and I think that's an amazing thing and I hope it proves out this see all right Sorry, keep going. All right. I got watching Tennessee at Minnesota Tennessee, Minnesota stinks. They're bad. They're just bad Yeah, I did. I do not know what's going on with them. I will take Tennessee as well.
42:00 Jake: Skip this one. Uh, all right. Now San Francisco stayed on the East Coast. And yeah, that's because they're playing the Giants this week at home in New York or in New Jersey. Um, man, the Niners got really injured, didn't they? We really we beat them up a little bit and they were coming in and said the field was no good. Like they even said it like coming into the game. They were concerned about the field. Justin: It's real turf. It's like it's not bad stuff. They like made a real thing about it. They were like legitimately concerned about the softness of it and it did prove out there were a lot of soft tissue injuries that happened in that game. Jake: has nothing to do with no prizes and no mini-camps. Back to back plays, you got guys just getting carted off. It was very strange. Anyway. We were watching it. We were texting it. We were like, this is the way the Jets win. We just have every one of the players go out and eventually win. And the Giants couldn't even do it. I mean, they lost Barkley for the year. That stinks for them. Although I'm not convinced he's... going to ever do anything in this league. I got San Francisco giving four, but I don't even care who plays quarterback for them. I think the Giants are really bad. Yeah, I don't. I don't think San Francisco is that great, actually. They're not that great. They're just beat us 31 to 13. Justin: Yeah, we'll see. All right. I'm going to take John. Enjoy. It's nothing. Jake: I will team either. All right. Philadelphia is hosting Cincinnati Philly giving five and a half to since the I'm going to go with Joe Burrow and Cincinnati. Another example of like a Ricky quarterback is just like playing much better than Sam Donald. But whatever. Now I'm gonna stick with Philly Philly at home. I know it doesn't matter but I'm gonna take Philly in Pittsburgh hosting Houston and Pittsburgh has a real They have their quarterback back. They have a real defense. I Like Pittsburgh giving for Houston, oh and two. Ah, what is what? What happened to them? Talking about hitting a cliff. I feel like they always start off. I'll take Pittsburgh as well. I'll take Houston. But they did make, they made like a weird trade in the offseason that I thought made no sense where they traded De'Andre Hopkins away for David Johnson, which I just didn't, didn't make any sense to me about whatever. Thank you for watching. Thank you for watching. on the value chart, I feel like wide receivers, much more running backs, running backs, as we've seen with multiple teams, it's like the third stringer, Seattle's the perfect example, like they'll have like 10, five running backs and you'll be like, oh, the number one's hurt, then number two does better than the number one,
45:00 Jake: then it's like, oh, the number two's hurt, and then the number three does better than the number, and then it's just like, oh, they just keep counting zero. Have you watched them this year? I did not. I have a good I have not known. You know who their coordinator is, right? Sure is. Is it ShotLamor? Yeah, sometimes. Well, maybe he'll be our next. He'll be our head coach next time. Justin: Sometimes he's the player, sometimes he's the coach, sometimes it's a mix, but I think anyone who's coaching Russell Wilson is going to look pretty good. Jake: That's the other thing. Russell Wilson is arguably one of the best quarterbacks. Actually, actually. All right. Kelly Chargers hosting Carolina favored by six and a half. No McCaffrey. I like the Chargers. I like the Chargers too. That is a, that's the, not the home team, but that's the flying across the country. It's a tough one. It's a tough one. Carolina, Carolina is kind of a trash fire. So I'm going to go with Chargers. Dave Rookie is going to be there starting a quarterback. Some weird stuff there with Terrod Taylor getting injured. All right. We're in the four o'clock, by the way. Ah. The Tampa Braves at Denver. Tampa favored by six. I think they probably get that done. Denver's on their back of quarterback. So, yeah, why not Tampa? Yeah i think too much i'm not sure i love tamper i think that anything too good that they're gonna dominate so i'll say it'll stay you'll stay closer than that i'll get a stop all this defense. Okay my Arizona is hosting to try it. Arizona looks great to try to look like shit Arizona skipping five and a half i think they probably went back to. Agreed. All right. This is probably the prime timer of the week for the four o'clock session. Seattle is hosting Dallas and Seattle is favored by five. Dallas isn't that good. They're one and one and they should be 0 and 2. I don't see why this is five. It should be seven. I'll take Seattle. Thank you for watching. If you enjoyed this video please like, comment and subscribe. Thank you very much for watching. Agreed. Take Seattle. I'll take, they're on a roll. I think they'll, they'll, they didn't, they win by five over, uh, Patriots. One by like four or five, whatever. They, you know, they, they stopped the guy at 30 and they stopped Camino at the goal line, like at the end of the game, which is a big deal. Um, all right. Now we're into the prime timers Sunday night. Uh, looks like a good one. We have New Orleans hosting, uh, Green Bay. And we have New Orleans favored by three. And I'll just take the home team.
48:00 Jake: Eh, I'm gonna take Green Bay. I like the way they're playing. I'm gonna take them. And then Green Bay on the road. And then change Monday night probably is the best game of the week. I think Monday night doesn't always get the best game of the week. But I think this is it. Baltimore is hosting Kansas City. Like this is it. This is Lamar versus... Mahoney, this is the way this is the future. So Baltimore's home and their favorite by three and a half. That half is super important. I'll take the underdog. I don't think Kansas City loses by more than the field goal. I agree. I think they win. They're not right myself. So if I'm picking that they're winning. All right, let's head on over to the throne picks. That's all the ASE games. We have four and fun fact. Fun fact, I'm beating you for two. Fun fact. Oh, I think, did I get all these right? I think I did. Are all the, we're an underdog. New England's another dog. Yeah, it is That should be plus I Mean you don't you know how to do this. So maybe maybe you did I don't know Yeah, Buffalo Buffalo's home against the Rams and Buffalo's favored by two and a favored We've got New England is home against Las Vegas and they're favored by six So I think he did it right. Justin: Yay. All right. Let's go Miami Jacksonville. I can't. I can't see a little AR. I'll say LA Raiders like all day long. It's just LV. Is it? I feel like it's just a fee. Jake: I'm going to take a look. It is LV. You're right. Okay. It's super new. All right. Thank you. Alright, man, I'm gonna add jazz. What do you think? There should just be a hurricane and just wipe this game out. Like, this should never happen. Sorry to all those in Southern Florida or people in Florida. Man, I think this is probably a high-scoring game, to be honest with you. It's a couple of teams that can score. and come back on each other and there's no one's gonna like stomp on each other's throat so I feel like this is a pretty close game I think Miami probably comes out ahead unfortunately for two because I think they need to lose a little more for two at a play but I see this as a as a 27 to 23 victory for Miami Yeah, I actually think Miami wins this. I think it'll be much, much closer. So I'm going 2322 for Miami. But I do think that Miami is going to win. I don't think there's another one that that pisses me off. Like how is min shoe? Like, but you know, if you were to
51:04 Jake: ask like most people, it's like, Hey, do you want Sam Donald or min shoe? I think people say men shoe I think they do. I think right now you're like, I'd rather have Minshew. That's a little bit of reaction to your phone. So why? Yeah, it is. Justin: Is he in a better situation than Sam in Jacksonville? Jake: Okay. I don't know. I'm not watching Jacksonville. I'm just saying. They pick you got third overall and then you got an undrafted dude and they're like sort of in the same conversation. You fucked up a little bit. Okay. Okay, at the end of the season, we'll read you out. Once we have three games, once we have three seasons in, we'll redraft the, you know, the draft from three years ago. We'll see. I mean, right now it's, would you have Barkley? No, you wouldn't even pick Barkley in the first round. Would you have redoing this draft? Because he gets hurt all the time. He's running back. So you learn your lesson. Right. So. All right. Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots. New England Patriots one and one not looking like we're doing that. Our house. Once were ramps. Oh no. Sorry. All right. So you have the Rams going to the bills. Those are favorite two and a half. Good for them. Bills are good. New slash, bills are good. Bills have good defense. Bills have good offense. Bills are a legit team. They're going to go to the playoffs and they're going to make some noise. They have a quarterback. They have a ball. They have a coach. I think this will be close, but I think the Rams are going to get stymied a little bit. Buffalo is going to shut them down. So I like the Bills to win this game. I like it to be, let me go 17. Let's see, 24-17 bills. Yeah, I'm not on you this. Like, if I'm looking at the two teams they beat, they beat the really terrible fucking Jets and the really fucking terrible Miami Dolphins. This is the first team that they're playing that's actually a good team. So I actually don't think so. I think this is the come up in this game. I think this is the game that you see him stop being able to run. I don't see the passing. They have a good defense. I think Rams win this. So 2720 Rams. Vegas going to New England. This line is weird. I don't understand why New England's favored by sex. Well, this is a Belichick line. It's weird. It's like, is New England better this year? Like without Tom Brady, is that weird? Are you sure? No, they're not better. OK, positive. They're still good. It sucks. I don't think Vegas goes in there and handles that very well.
54:00 Jake: I think New England takes care of the business. I think they're going to be just too well coached. It's a coaching thing at this point. So I think maybe there's some points scored here. New England wins 28-24. Is that at least at the early games? Yes, it is. So that game could be watched. I don't know. Vegas is undefeated. They're doing well. I still don't believe in the Patriots without the Tom Brady and all that, and without all the players. So I'm going to go raid us, get it done in New England. Yeah, it's just 29-12. Let's trust that. We'll check. Not going to see. You know, he gets the team to play and he puts them in good positions and, you know, they even have to change their whole offense this year and it's like they're having fun with it or something. It's like, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not a believer in Cam Newton in New England as a savior. So no. All right. Game of the four Oh five. PM Easter say hi the New York fighting jets in Indie They are Underdogs, it's gone up. It was nine point nine point five that went ten point five then went eleven So it's now settled in at eleven points can you can make bearish money to come on the jets? It's like let's get this over ten. No, let's keep going It's just terrible. Indy's only one-in-one. They have their new quarterback, Philip Rivers, who I'm not a big believer in. He's a guy who can be turned over. So what are your keys to the castle and score of this game for the- You know, keys to the castle are really becoming very difficult to do because it's like- turn them over. Okay, well we won the turnover battle in the last game. We still got still got blown out. What are you supposed to say? I guess the key here is I mean, I'd like to see a stop people from running all over us. So I guess that would be the key. Like can you shut down the run game of this bullshit cold steam and make Phillip Rivers kind of push the ball down the field and beat you? I guess that's the key. Like stop the run, please. Like stop the bleeding, make them beat you on the pass. And the other thing I would say is we're atrocious on third down. We don't get off the field. So those are the two things defensively, I think are the keys because I can't even think about a offense. I don't, I don't even know if they're going to score 14 points. So I'll pick my loser here. Uh, the jets will score 13. The Colts will put up 24. Wow.
57:01 Jake: So here's I don't pick against the Jets. Here's Keith's Castle, but first, play with fucking passion. Sometimes I watch the Jets on the field and I feel like they're just, they're sleepwalking. I was texting the whole time. I feel like everybody sleepwalking on the field. This is the third preseason game. And this is the game that generally the team starts to play with all their players with their full book. I can actually put together a real game on the field. So I'm saying this is the third preseason game, and we're gonna look like it's the third preseason game. We're gonna actually play a full game from start to finish. I think play with passion. Well, I mean, he's he's back the IR and I don't know if that's like, I don't know if that's like the IR this new like four game IR or if it's like the whole year if he's out. I can't imagine he's out the whole year with the hamstring the new game IR the same IR Justin: let's see who's actually the hamstring injury but Jake: A huge big list. Uh, uh, questionable doubt for Carmen's doubtful. Uh, you will, mullets on the IR. We have crowders questionable. Wilson's questionable. more doubtful, really good. What do you think? Yeah. Mim's IR, Bell, Cashman. I mean, these are big players that are on the IR. Oh, god, that's just Imozel. Well, he's on his own IR. And Dachshund. All right, so whatever. I still think we can win. Jets win. 20 to 19 in a close original and Sam Darnell proves you wrong. It's a fourth quarter final drive. It could be the, I would, I would love nothing more than to see us losing 19 13 in the fourth quarter with about four minutes left, getting the ball back. and see a three and a half minute drive to score a touchdown and win by your score of 20 to 19. I'd love nothing more than to see it happen. I gotta see it though. Yeah, me too. I got to see it. I got to have some players. I mean, Herndon, this better be the fucking way. Where am I going? Maybe you want my computer? I just don't know. I mean, I mean... Look, it can't be Frank Gordon. You saw what he is, right? He's four yards, he's five yards. There's no way, he's not breaking anything. Maybe P. Ryan goes in there and can bust a run for 12, 15 yards. Those are big plays to get the offense moving. You need,
1:00:05 Jake: when you hand the ball off, you need to know that you can move the ball forward because then you can play action off of it and fool the defense and stuff. You're just going to run right up the middle for three yards every time. It doesn't do anything. You don't have to respect that. You could be like, all right, you're going to run the ball up the middle. We'll just tackle you after four yards, whatever. Well, it's also like you're running the ball up the middle with Frank Gore, who, yes, he still has something up the tank, but he's a 38? He's going to get... Justin: He's going to get... 38 year old runtats. Jake: He's going to get... He's going to get... He's going to get... You're not getting a first basically He'll fall forward not making anyone miss at this point. He might run someone over that's interesting Maybe I mean if he gets a shot at it, but like Now he's running for like three yards four yards cloud of dust. That's the game So like it really sucks to watch them hand the ball off on first down watch Frank Gorgle for three yards Okay, second and seven. Oh We like throw a wide receiver screen for another three yards. Okay, cool. And now it's like third and four and it's yeah, and then four. I don't know. Because they're in the same fucking place. Everybody runs out four yards and turns around. That's the play. It's like good play, dude. Everyone just ran out. four yards and hooked and turned around and like Sam's supposed to find the open one or like one guy cuts across the field for Two yards and like gets tackled immediately like that's the fucking play It's all about like yards after the cat by the way, I made things happen, but like we don't have those guys asshole The other thing is like Frank was not brought in to do this like he was not brought in to be the starter. Like he was meant to do the fourth and one and he's been on the bench the whole time and you want to just run him right the fucking middle and give him his two yards. That was when he wasn't meant to like hand the ball off 21 times in a game. He's averaging 3.2 yards per carry. That's his lowest average ever from any year, including last year was 3.6. Like, it's he's hit the wall, put in the rookies, put in whoever the fuck get somebody off. I don't care. Get someone off the waivers. Get a get a undrafted for free. The Giants just signed up onto Freeman. But that wasn't gonna ever be like what the Jets were gonna do. They know they have Lady on Bell, they spent a lot of money on Lady on Bell. That means the backups like You budget a certain amount for positions you can't you can't go spending twenty million bucks on running backs I'm safe. I'm a very smart a very spent the money like oh No, no, I'm not saying spend money. That's what Michael p. Ryan is for like what's that like? Yeah, he's good. Then let's go. He got a couple snaps last week. Let's get him in there. Like, let's see what he can do. It's like the Trent cannon situation. It's like you gotta see like, alright, we saw he wasn't that good. But at least we got to see.
1:03:07 Jake: Are we missing any of our quarterbacks from our any running backs from last year? while power comes to mind as like a very dependable. dude that's been on the team for a really long time is not he's not football anymore because we didn't sign him but I feel like he could have come back for another year, you know But I don't know if he wanted to that's on, you know It's up to him. He's a little older at this point, but I think he's still very effective football player Justin: I mean up until last year still very effective Jake: He was 31. He's 31, turning 32 this year. But even last year, I mean, not that he played a ton, but he was still averaging. He's almost 40 years. He's been on the desk forever. It's what you kind of want. They replaced him with a guy who's like six, seven years older than him. All right, let's get out of here. It's a long podcast. Hope you enjoy it. It's a lot of complaining. We'll see you next week. Pretty much hell or high water, mostly hell. Until then, it's Justin, it's Jake saying, let's go, Jack. That's Thank you.
