26 Jake: Onan And Justin I'm the longest running New York jet podcast ever The worst intro ever hundred ninety four times baby, I'm gonna change it up. Okay Do you do? Listen if anyone's you need a few. All right. Well, we're back and We didn't do a Monday podcast because we got our asses hand to I don't know about institutes Justin: I don't really feel like the Monday Pocket. Jake: We win. Coming Sunday, we're going to talk about it on Monday. We're doing it. We win. Justin: So we do that. There are some times. We could. I would be over it. I was over it about 10 minutes after it happened. Yeah, it upset me for about a day. Jake: Alright, we're gonna talk about the game, we're gonna talk about the next game, we're gonna make our throne picks, we're getting through it, we have 53 minutes left to go and then we are out the door. So let's go, let's talk about the Jets versus Patriots. First of all but right. Why are we wrong but right? So here's my issue with this game. What was your issue? Well my issue with this game is that we two weeks before in November 3rd or 4th we sat and we made a prediction about every September. We made a prediction about every game. Right? So we said, and I remember my picks were win, loss, win. So I predicted 10 days or let's say 15 days or 12 days before this game happened that we were gonna lose that game. Justin: Everyone who listens to this podcast knows that we're way more realistic when we pick before the season than when we pick during the week. Well right. Because otherwise we'd be 16 and 0 as everyone knows. Jake: But as the season goes on, what I picked in the beginning means less and less to me. Meaning when we go meet the Steelers in the week, whatever, I'm gonna be like... You know it's not gonna matter as much because there's more ups and downs there's more changes that could have happened teams change right some teams are good. Right. Right! This game though, looking at it from where I looked at it at the beginning of the season, like before the first kickoff to when we got there, it was basically the same thing. The Patriots were the Patriots, still tough to play on there. Justin: It's the home opener on Thursday night. That was a r- man do we get dealt some- Tough blows in the scheduling. Yeah, well that was not a good one. It really, that was not a good one. That was not a good one. Jake: Well, so again, my point to this was, normally I'm very upset with the loss. Very upset, like I get really, because I truly believe at every given week that we have a way to win. We should have won this one. And I don't go into games thinking that we are going to lose.
02 Jake: This is one of those games though I kind of went in thinking, I just don't see us winning. Thank you for having me. Thank you. , what I think made it even worse. So that was like the way I started watching the game. I was calm, cool, collected. Justin: We lost to the Patriots practice squad on offense, basically. Jake: With top rating. We lost to a game, we lost a game that almost there was no reason to lose. We did everything perfectly right, except turn the ball over four or five times. Justin: I've talked to a few jet fans and a few other non-jets fans about the game afterwards. We all agreed that that was our chance to meet the Patriots in New England and You know be 2-0 in the division having a game ahead of them, which would have been nice they were depleted it was it was like a wounded team to take advantage of and Everyone who I talked to and I feel this way too is is that all we needed was a game from a quarterback that did not resemble a shit show. And what we got was a fourth quarter meltdown shit show. Well, it's interesting. That's all we needed was was was one last turnover. Yeah, one last turn. One last turnover. We could have tied it up. Then we had three drives to think that we played right against the Patriots. in New England. And, you know, as we're as we're going through the game, you know, and we can look at the statistics, we lost 13 to 10. And, you know, the Pats did nothing in the second half. They really didn't do anything after the first drive of the game. Um, we held them. We held them to almost nothing. We controlled the time possession, but the big number is 4, 0. 4, 0. to zero. Four jets turnovers, zero New England turnovers. That was it. To think that we lost by three points with a negative four turnover ratio means we really outplayed them. We really did. We just got beat. We threw three terrible interceptions in the fourth quarter and a very costly fumble earlier in the game, which gave the Pats a short field. which is always the nemesis, right? The short field. Like the Jets defense stood up and did their thing. This is what I expect them to do. They played an inferior team with that B level, C level squad that New England ran out there. No tight ends, you know. Rookie wide receivers everywhere except for What's his face the little little guy? Edelman, you're forgetting your own guy? Edelman running around 18 targets for Edelman ridiculous He was basically there running back though. He got 13 balls for 78 yards. That's like a running game, right? You know that's six yards a catch which is You know nothing but still you know, I feel like this game if we would have had a halfway competent
03 Justin: Quarterback in the fourth quarter there were big mistakes huge Points off the board mistakes that were made in the fourth quarter that cannot happen and this is why You know, everyone wanted Gino when you look at his stats, he doesn't turn the ball over in college, right? He's everyone percent 71 percent very accurate 40 touchdowns and like five interceptions Like oh this guy takes care of the ball Apparently not because from what you've seen he's not taking care of the ball week one fumble recovery at the five Touchdown week two and it got covered up by the fact that we won that game Week two, all we needed was a competent performance. We needed an average quarterback. Alex Smith. He's above average to me. Jake: Yeah. Why? What's he ever done that's been above average? He wins. He's winning. He's grew up. He matured into a good quarterback. His overall stats is that he's a winner. He has grown up into... I bet you he has. Justin: Look at the last three years of his career. I'm not saying he's a winner. Jake: Okay, he's a winner. Anyway, we can disagree about... Flacco, he's a winner. He is a winner. All we needed was Joe Flacco. Justin: All we needed was pretty much not a bottom five quarterback and we would have won this game. Match up. Sure. Would have won this Carson Palmer. Absolutely. Just some lady knock Carson Palmer. I don't know. He's pretty mistake prone too. Yeah, but he won the last time he threw four interceptions in the game. Probably not though. Probably last year. No. Really? Probably. Yeah, I know all we needed was a halfway deal and look what you know EJ manual Oh, please look that's gonna be a fun little thing this week Oh, we all we need I mean not when I was talking to I was like as much as Sanchez is a The same turnover prone mass. I feel like they would have won the game with him Jake: Oh, yeah, I got over that very quickly because He is that mess and he's done this exact same thing. I feel like he's done worse. I feel like he's done worse Justin: These were these were I mean one of them was really really I Mean that third downplay where he's scrambling out to his left and he's throwing across his body to a little window to Holmes Mean if he just scrambles and doesn't get the first down and we kick the field goal and it's 13 13 Jake: That is a whole new ball game over or under on his attempts this week to pass the ball 20 Justin: Over he throws the ball. They're gonna throw the Jets throw the ball. This is not I feel like there is a show's now I feel like they're gonna shot your last year Jets. This is not the typical Rex Ryan Jets They throw the football. 20 is a low number in this NFL. If he only throws the ball 20 times, he'll feel like we're going to lose. Jake: We'll win 9-6. Justin: No, it's not. They can't run that effectively. Well that was a good part. We actually did run effectively. They had Ivory going. I don't know what happened. They got him going.
00 Jake: He was running over them. Yep, and then they stopped well rush 50 yards Justin: 4.3 average that one or two drives there in the third quarter second quarter third quarter where he was really rolling They got him going and then the fourth quarter. I feel like they just stopped. You know who can't run Jake: Anybody playing the Jets? Oh, yeah, that's I mean Justin: They're running back. Oh you saw Doug Martin put up monster numbers this week right for Tampa And you the the Patriots ran for like 170 yards in week one against these bills They don't run for shit against us. All right, so let's do it. Let's get there. We all know the outcome Let's get your fool of the week Alright, my fool of the week is Probably not who you would expect me to be picking I'm gonna pick someone who made a mistake early in the game that I feel like cost us. Okay Field position and cost us from you know really moving and and and I'm gonna pick Stephen Hill even though he was You know the top receiver with 86 yards for catches on eight targets a Good average 21 and a half yards per catch. He lost that fumble And also in the in the first half, it was like third and three and they threw a quick pass out to him. And he is a big dude. Like if you watch. The Cowboys and you watch Des Bryant play and they swing that ball out to Des Bryant and they're trying to get three yards. He just runs straight over the cornerback and gets the three yards. Calvin Johnson does the same thing. Now I'm mentioning extremely good. Jake: You're not really the two best wide receivers in the league. And what's Brandon Marshall does? He runs right through. Justin: These are guys who are the same size. Like he's, he's got the size. I think they're physically bigger than he is. He's tall. He's got it. So he's got to make that first down, not like try and juke. Just run over a guy who's lighter than you and shorter than you and smaller than you and reach for that first down. Right. So the big fumble, the big non-conversion, which Rex challenged and failed. Stephen Hill's my, I could give this to a bunch of people, but I'm going to give it to him. There's other receivers I could give it to. Jake: Yeah, I'm going to do the other receiver. The one that I think in some ways was worse. I mean, Clyde Gates had. realistically three big drops. The touchdown was a big one. You could just look at it and say, okay, but he caught Gates like, man, you can't drop. I mean, two for eight. He just was dropping balls at like... And again, I actually think that the pronounced locators afterwards, I watched the Jet Post game live a couple days later after I... was over it and I was like, okay, so let's see what they they were very much like, oh, those receivers got to help the help out the quarterback over and I agree with that. Again, there's there's a reason why Matt Stafford is Matt Stafford and it's not because of Matt Stafford. It's because when he puts the ball anywhere near that person, that guy gets it and he just gets it and it doesn't matter. And then he just breaks 17 tackles and scores a touchdown.
03 Jake: These guys, if they could just grab the ball and just fall down on their ass, it would be good. But they're not even grabbing the ball. Not only are they not grabbing the ball, they're like, they do that, you know, they try to get the ball and then they pop it up and then it makes it even worse. So it's like they're on the level of bad, they're doing the worst thing which is, if you're not going to catch the ball, don't. don't make the ball go somewhere else that someone else can catch it. Justin: Tip drill. Jake: Yeah, it's just, it's so, it quite gets to me of the three or of the word receivers. I thought Holmes, Holmes caught the balls that were thrown at him that he had a chance to catch and he showed that he's like, he showed why he's the best receiver. He might be heard, he might be heard, but he's the best receiver. He was making catches that was like helping Hill out. Oh, you want to throw it way over there? I'll get it. I'll fall out of bounds, touch my feet in like stuff like that. Justin: There's some really good plays that Gino made when he connected with Holmes on that play that he got smashed and they got the 15 yard penalty after it. That was a really good throw, an anticipation throw. Holmes wasn't open when he threw it. He threw him open. Like that, that's a good, like you see flashes with Gino and he's, he can scramble, he can move. Um, you know, what did he, what did he run for here? He had three rushes for 17. So he's, you know, he's running. He's moving. One more thing before we get away from this game. Cat, where was the wild cat? I don't know. It, they needed to do it. They needed it in the fourth quarter. They needed to run that play three times just to put it in the mind of the defense. Now again, they play New England twice. So. It's like a chess match kind of where I don't want to show you this this time Maybe I'll show it to you next time kind of things, but I don't know if I buy that I don't buy that at all bullshit. I mean, I just said it but I don't think I buy it Jake: No, I don't buy it at all And that if there was a game you needed to pull every stop out because again the stakes were high They were ruling the AFC East Justin: Yeah, at the game over with a road game over New England beating them at home, right? Jake: Like yeah, so anyway, all right, so let's get away from that game. Let's move on to our Justin: game was again Jake: I just didn't feel like we were gonna I didn't feel like we were gonna win hairs. We were in it. We were close Justin: That's what's so painful. All right, so curly didn't play. It's injuries curly didn't play but he's practicing back from his concussion Looks like he'll be in that'll help a lot because he's a shorthand to receiver He would have caught some of those balls that that current that gauge dropped with that touchdown. He would have caught right Um, you you'd think he would at least he's he's pretty sure handed. We've seen that he's a really good slot receiver Um, and that's what geno I think needs he needs Guys to run those intermediate short over the middle routes that are easier to complete than sideline routes that in the homes and hill are running. Cobles is limited. He's practicing, though. Not sure if he's going to play or not this week. Haven't really announced one way or the other. As of now, it's Thursday. Whether Cobles is going to play.
00 Justin: I hope we can. I would love to see Quentin Cobles back on the field with this defensive front. And it looks like Mo Wilk is going to is going to play. He's practicing. He's a warrior. He's gonna play. He'll play. Jake: Well, let's talk about the end with the big fight. There was a fight. And it started with, I thought, which is a bad call. I mean, not a bad call. I know why they threw the flag, but what happened when I watched it three or four times? So, it was an interception. Mango goes to try to block the guy. Tackle the guy. Whatever. Get him down. And what happened is the guy, instead of just going out of bounds, which he had no reason to not go to bounds. Like he just should have gone out of bounds. It was the end of the game. He jumped up and did a spin move. And I think if you look at it, it looked like you didn't know if he was trying to spin his way inside or spin his way out. And then Mango comes to hit him and he was spinning his way out. And so it was like one of those whatever. But then of course, all hell breaks loose. You know what? I fucking love it. I love that they were like, we're going to. You don't fuck with us all in like the Jets are coming and they want to win these games and guys who I would have said Are the nicest guys on that team like Ferguson are in there like punching people in the head. Yeah, fuck it I want that fire. I like that fire. Yeah, so but I love that that that you know, Ferguson gets a fifteen thousand dollar and Cologne I think cologne's the guy who brings the nasty. Oh, yeah, but he walked by a raft and literally Mean I watched it and it didn't look that bad He like just he was heading towards somebody touch referee, but he didn't try do he didn't like you walk out of his way Justin: Yeah, but you're on your way into a scuffle and you hit like you touch him. It's kind of like in you know In baseball you you can get right up in the umpire's face Jake: But you can't can't touch him so 35k for calling at least they weren't there because at the end the game Justin: They were talking will they be suspended no whole bad. You see Deshaun. Goldson got Suspended, appealed it, one is appeal, but then got fined $100,000. C-SAT two weeks in a row with helmet to helmet type of hits. I've been listening to that NFL network and and a lot of the people that do the broadcasts around NFL and There's a lot being talked about like, oh, this league is like, you know, the safety is getting a little out of control and, you know, you can't hit high. And people are going to start hitting low. Yeah. And the players would actually rather get hit in the head than hit in the knees. Right. Jake: Because one will take you out two weeks. One will take the other in your career or ruin. Justin: You could totally blow your knee out and be like, sorry. So it's it's very difficult because when you watch a game, it's very inconsistent. Like some things are penalties. Some things are penalties like they're guys getting fined after the games. for lots of money for things that aren't even penalties.
00 Justin: Like that to me is fucked up. Like if you're not going to penalize the guy on the field, why did they get a $30,000 fine? Well, but that's because... A little crazy. Jake: Well, first of all, you can't penalize a guy on the field after the game. Well, they did. They threw those two guys out. Justin: Well, no, No, what I mean, not these fines, not Dieberg and Cologne. Like that's that's a fight. That's that's off the table. That's You You're out, you're you're ejected. That's whatever. What I mean is like these these hits over the middle with receivers like the refs don't even know how to call it. Right. Like they won't even call a penalty. But then after the fact, when the week's over, they'll review everything and be like, that's a $30,000 fine. But kind of crazy. But know how to call it. It's either if it's a final offense, it should be a. Jake: Things these things happen so fast. I don't know. I don't I don't mind that. I. I get it from both standpoints. I get they're trying to protect people. Some of these hits look vicious. Vicious hits. And when it's especially like the two guys coming in, one from both sides. Justin: Yeah, when you get sandwiched, those look bad. When the helmet pops off, you know, you get the flag. Jake: So speaking of helmets popping off, Sanchay's is on IR with Destination to Return. Correct. And really is doing what I'm not pleased about his sort of off the field behavior with sort of this. It's the chattiness. It's like he's he's saying stuff that then the Jets are having to refute or to talk about where I wish he would just it's like basically I want every player just off the field. Shut the fuck up. Justin: Yeah. You know what? You do talk a good game with your whole shut the fuck up, then you don't like it. No, I like you when they shut the fuck up. Oh, you don't like it. Yeah, you do. No, you're like, I don't want players talking. You don't like it. When do I say players talking? You're like, oh, he gives us interview and he doesn't say anything. No! He should say the script, or whatever. You don't like it. Well, say the script. You like, you like like it, but you don't like it, then you like it, then you don't like it, you go back and forth. No, I'm a fan. I think Sanchez was a pretty good soldier in this whole mess. He got fucked. He won the competition. Did not. He should've won, everyone knows he won the competition. Jake: Well, did not win. You know how he witnessed the competition? Because someone says you won. No one told him he won. Justin: Yeah, that's because he went and got fucking torn labrum because he's playing behind guys who were cut the next day. Yeah, that's ridiculous. Okay, and he's playing the good soldier by not coming out and being like they fucked me He could've you know why cuz I'm gonna come out and he could've said they fucked me and they'd cut him because they did Fuck him in that situation. They fucked him. Yeah, they're like go play behind guys. Go do your job. Go to your wasn't really not That wasn't his job. Not at that moment. Go do your job. At that moment, his job was not to go into the fourth quarter of the third game of the preseason. Hindsight is really 20-20. That was not his job. Everyone will say it. No. Nobody says that Rex was right in that situation. Jake: Rex is right in that situation. Nobody says that. I told you why he was right. He was trying to prove that Sanchez was a better quarterback. He put him in. He said go show them why you're not going to throw three picks. And he went and got hurt. and we'll be right back. Which happens any play could happen the next play could have in the next house Justin: He was playing the good soldier there and now now he's not now. He's like I won the job
04 Justin: I expect I thought I won the job. I think you were sitting there saying yep. You won the job Oh, yeah, everyone knew he won the job. Yeah, so he didn't win the job He's someone give it to him That's cuz he got hurt and he couldn't play because they put him in a crap ass situation Which no other team in the universe would have done. That's classic jets for you You got your quarterback and then you get him fucked because you're playing him behind a guy who's gonna get cut and the guy who injures him gets cut. It's like none of these guys are relevant. Why is he in the game? Like this is ridiculous. Jake: He was in the game to show that he- He- Absurd. Why he won the job. Absurd. Whatever, he's hurt. Now he's talking up the storm. I'm like, I don't- I just wanted him to shut up. Justin: I don't think he's really talking up a storm. He is talking up a storm. He got interviewed because they were playing on Thursday night game. Yeah. So he got interviewed and he spoke his mind a little bit. I don't think that that's all that bad. Okay. In his mind, he won the job. Jake: Well, you're a Sanchez apologist. I am. Justin: I think he's still our best chance to win games this year. Well, not with a broken shoulder. Yeah. Well, that's the... That's the point. The thing is, he shouldn't have had been put in that position. Jake: It would be lovely to say that Sanchez could have done better in that game than Gino, except for I've seen Sanchez do worse in that same game. So I've seen him do worse. I've seen him actually perform worse than that. And so it's like, his highs and lows are just as bad as Gino's. You can go just as high and just as low. Because he can go just, he can go so low. He can go five kicks a game. Justin: I haven't yet seen... That much of a high yet from Gino right but you have four years of Sanchez and you have two games of the Gino I'm waiting. I'm I'm I'm waiting for him to throw more than one touchdown in a game and no interceptions Yeah, can't wait for that to happen. Hope it happens this week. You probably see it happening Jake: Yeah, totally can see it happen this week and then wherever's gonna get this it no He'll still go two more weeks later and and shit the bed Justin: No, it just really sucks with these rookie quarterbacks. But so did Sanchez. Sanchez would have a great game Jake: Last year Sanchez had three touchdowns in the Bills game, the opener, remember? Yeah, it was great. Justin: And then he had one of the worst seasons ever. Jake: Then he had the butt fumble game. I mean, like he can have these huge highs and lows. I want someone who's a little bit more consistent. Justin: These highs and lows are not fun anymore. I haven't seen consistency just yet. No, we do have a rookie. Jake: I'm not going to see it. I don't think we would have seen it. Honestly, if Sanchez had done in the preseason, if he had shown that he had thrown some of the stuff behind him, but he did the same shit that he's done his entire career in the preseason, he threw stupid fucking passes, pick sixes. He was doing the same stuff. So what's to think that he was gonna show up on Thursday night against the Patriots and not do what he always does? Justin: I don't know. He looked better to me in the preseason than he had. He's literally third snap. He threw a pick six to some... Fucking defensive lineman. Jake: Okay, whatever. It was the worst fucking throw ever. You're five. You're in a preseason game.
00 Jake: You just go boop, pop it down. He has not learned. He hit a peak, a plateau, and he never kind of was able to go above it. Now maybe he'll go above it next year, year after that, two more years after that. Whatever. I just think you should shut the fuck up. All right, let's get on let's do our let's do our jet Kingdom So many pick them thrown picks just versus bills Justin: Last week I did better than you. Yeah, you did, but I'm still like under 500 for the light a horrible week It was a bad week like last week. I did Seven and I think you did Six this is bad. Oh, we're both way under 500 early on Jake: Really no good the person did the best got 11 Which was still not even very massive fat boys and broomy jets both got 11 for the week All right, I got a 16 fiber and you got a water I think a seven or six. You got a six or awful. Justin: All right. Let's go to this week. I've already decided. I think that I'm going to pick a lot on your dogs. All right. So, okay. Yeah. I think underdogs are doing well this year. So I'm going to go with the underdogs. Jake: I have not made my picks. I'm going to pick them on air. I can go. Justin: Even though where I got my first game, I'm actually picking the favorite. So Philadelphia tonight, Thursday night is hosting. Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs and On a short week. I think it's very difficult to prepare for The onslaught that is the Philadelphia offense now it kind of killed itself last game where they lost San Diego Because they it's almost like they're going too fast. They're not like holding the ball, right? They scored 30 points That's plenty enough to win, but Anyway, Philly is home. They're favored by three. I like them at night at home. I like the fact that they're going to want to beat Andy Reid really bad. So give me the Eagles. I think that's too hard to prepare for on a in a Thursday night game. Jake: Yeah, I think the Eagles. I think they'll there's going to be that kind of Andy Reid coming home like I don't I feel like the Eagles will play harder than the Chiefs because. Justin: And I feel a But I don't think they're on the level of Green Bay. We just saw what Green Bay could do. I mean, they just dominated Washington. It was crazy. So Green Bay's favorite on the road by 2 and 1.5. And I said I'm going to pick a lot on their dog. And I'm picking another favorite. So give me Green Bay. Jake: So far, so good. Give me Green Bay. Yeah, Green Bay. No doubt.
17 Jake: No, I don't, I'm still not, I'm not a believer in St. Louis yet. I'll take- I'm not a believer in Dallas. I'm not a believer in Dallas, but Dallas can score if they want to. They've got talent score last week. Really hurt yet? Justin: Well, at home, I'll take Dallas. Nookie dookie. Tennessee and San Diego, two kind of surprising teams that are- I think a lot of people thought they were gonna be this is a home game for Tennessee Tennessee's giving the standard three I like San Diego I want to pick San Diego. I'm gonna go with that. Here's my strew dogs dogs Jake: Yeah, I think San Diego in the blue part of the traditional sin San Diego They're good in the beginning and they fucking die in the end Justin: So here they are, they'll be good. Also, I don't believe in Tennessee. Even though it's a whole new regime, but whatever. Minnesota is hosting the tanking Cleveland Browns. Ludacris he was the third overall pick last year. I guess they just want to lose Really? I can't imagine why he wouldn't be in their future plans They just really want to lose this year. So I'm actually changing this I had Cleveland getting six from Minnesota in Minnesota. I'm changing this to Minnesota. I Jake: Will take Minnesota as well. I like Minnesota at home and Cleveland's gonna be starting a garbage quarterback They're starting a guy who I don't even know who it is starting Hoyer They're not even What the fuck are you doing? This is supposed to be about competition. Don't throw away your fucking season on the second game. Do you think you don't wanna fucking pay to go? Justin: Doesn't the NFL have to approve all trades? I don't think they would have that. When a first round pick is pretty valuable. It is. Whatever, wherever it ends up, 15 to 20 or whatever. Jake: But the idea that a NFL team is intentionally taking their season on week two. Week three. Well, week two, haven't played week three yet. It's like I think the NFL's having a fit. I know, it's ludicrous. It's ludicrous. But all right, we'll never. Ludicrous speed. Justin: Let's go. Ludicrous speed. We've gone plaid. New Orleans is hosting Arizona. And New Orleans is giving seven and a half. And because of that half, I'm gonna take Arizona,
02 Justin: because I think Arizona's defense is halfway decent. And if Fitzgerald plays, which I believe he is. I like Arizona. Jake: St. Norolene's at home. Drew Brees after a bad game. Norolene's will win by more than seven. Justin: You just made a lot of hand gestures. I did. Two like this. Washington is home facing Detroit and Washington's favored by one and a half. I don't understand. I mean, Detroit just lost. But, Washington looked terrible on defense. I don't know how they're going to stop Detroit. So I like Detroit. This could be a shootout. Give me Detroit. This could be one of those like Detroit gets out to a 31-7 lead and then it ends up like 34-31 or something. Carolina. is hosting the Giants. I don't know how Carolina was favorite on the road. Jake: This is some of the weirdest spreads I've seen. This is like still that week to do it. So we don't know who is really good anymore. Justin: Like who's good? I don't know. So there's a whole thing about Carolina to last I chronicle last week, and where they had the ball like in field goal range in Buffalo's territory. They were up by three already. It was fourth and one and they decided to kick up field goal. Instead of just going for it and it was Buffalo had no time and they kicked the field goal to go up by 6 and then they lost the game game winning touchdown the legend of EJ Emmanuel Most people say you should go for it there. Rivera did the same thing twice last year and lost both games So he probably should have learned. He'll probably be fired. That's the first one. Really? Yeah, I think so. He's awful. But anyway, Caroline is hosting the Giants. The Giants have to get off the shn, here on the road. They have to deal with that home crowd booing them. They crushed Carolina at home in Carolina last year. They're they're Carolina's giving a point to the Giants. So give me the Giants. Jake: Give me the gents. Justin: Yeah, I think that's an easy one. Jake: I can't see them going 0 and 3. Justin: No, not with Carolina being the third game. The first two were tough. Jake: Plus, by the way, Cam Newton is being sacked. He got sacked like six times in the first game. Like, I could see the Giants play a scary match. Justin: I had a 4 and 1 half last week. Yeah. That's scary. Yeah. We'll talk about him in a couple minutes. So Houston is going to the game. to Baltimore and Houston is favored in Baltimore by two and a half. I love Baltimore as a home dog. Give me Baltimore. Jake: Uh, I know they're not that great. Justin: I love home. I love Baltimore. Are they playing at night? Uh, this is the last one o'clock game. No, give me Houston. Okay. Uh, right. Moving right along. Challenging little stretch here. San Francisco is hosting. The Colts San Francisco getting crushed by Seattle by two points in Seattle that Man, that crowd is crazy And they're great defense, but still San Francisco is giving ten and a half
02 Justin: to Indy and Indy now has and Three more games. This is the 425. This is a Laffer. Seattle is hosting Jacksonville. The line opened at 20. Is there more than 20? Like, have you ever seen a line more than 20? I feel like there was a game that year that the Colts were without Manning like two years ago, and they played New England, and it was like 2021, 22, something crazy like that. Seattle's home against Jacksonville and this opened at 20. It's now down to 19 I'm taking Seattle. I don't see how they don't beat this team by 30. They just beat the Niners by 26 Jake: I I just this that's why I'm with a Jacksonville cuz I just don't I think teams get really pissed off with this stuff And I think that I feel like they get it up like one first down. Well, they they get it in their head that that one team gets in the head that all they do is sit on the field and they win. The other team gets in the head that they are totally disrespecting us. While I don't see Jaxons winning this. I don't think Seattle does that, especially at home. I don't think they play like that at home. 19 points I'm gonna give it. I'm not no way. No way relenting Justin: Sunday night Pittsburgh again in prime time. Pittsburgh is hosting Chicago. Pittsburgh's favored by... By the way, the... Sorry, Pittsburgh's not favored. They're home. They're getting two and a half from Chicago. I like Chicago. Pittsburgh's no good. They shouldn't... I don't care if they're home. I'm taking Chicago and I'll give two and a half points. Jake: I'll take Pittsburgh at home. I don't think they're going 0-3 either. Really? Yeah, I don't think they're going all the way through. Justin: They just don't look good at all No, they don't. And, I mean, Chicago's pretty good. Well, I think they went up against a good defense last week. And who's in Cincinnati's a really good defense. And they played Tennessee in the first week, who's pretty decent. Jake: I feel like, I feel like Pittsburgh is just, I just feel like they're just too good of a pedigree to really just flop. And you go, oh, and you're very injured though. They're very injured. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, very. They're always injured. Yeah, but they are like. They're really missing. All right. Let's pick the next game. Justin: All right. Last game Monday night. Denver is hosting Oakland. Denver giving 15. And in this one. Actually, what the other way I took Oakland. Yeah, the 15. Jake: I don't like the 15. I'm taking Oakland. Justin: Yeah, I feel like there's a lot of garbage points we had. Yes. I mean, we watch Denver might score. 40 points, but I feel like Oakland could throw up like there were 25 28 I mean prior running around
01 Justin: Garbage time I feel like maybe Manning leaves the game like in the third quarter They've already got 42 like they're done right now, and then it's just a backdoor cover from there All right, so that's the that's the pick um and then we will move on to the throne picks Jake: So first of all, I just want to let you know be before you see my pic of that. I actually wrote that down without looking at yours. Justin: Oh, you copied me faster. Jake: I didn't, I wrote it down and then I looked over and I was like, oh, that's crazy. Justin: Okay, so we have, how'd we do last week? So last week, Miami at Indie, we both had Indie winning, we were both wrong. We have Carolina at Buffalo, we both had Carolina winning, we were both wrong. And last week the Jets at New England both had the Jets winning. We were both wrong. And we were wrong on a lot on the Jets because we... Although I covered two of the spreads. You didn't. Oh no, you covered one. You covered the Jets spread. Because they didn't lose by 12. Right. Alright, let's move on. So first game, New England is hosting Tampa. Tampa's 0-2, little internal turmoil there. Again, that, I think that coaches a candidate to get fired pretty quick. But again, they showed they have a very good defense. They can run the ball. Um, and I feel like for some. Stupid reason they're gonna win this game. Oh, I don't know why I don't think New England has any against the same weapons They're gonna roll out there except I feel like Tampa's defense is right there with the Jets and their offense might be a little bit Better than all the Jets offense. Well, you know Jake: Doug Martin anybody we have on the field Doug Martin's better than anybody we have we beat them Justin: But they have a better, I feel like from a talent perspective, they just put it together. So with that said, I've tamper winning a squeaker 1716. Jake: Yeah, I have them losing a squeaker. Both have this close. Yeah, I think it's, I think it's going to be closer. I mean, I. Stick right in there and that spread on there because I'd pick the Tampa Bay because the spread is New England's favorite by seven I I think that's gonna be cool I think Tampa Bay does have a good has a really good D I just I mean, you know Josh Freeman is one of those ups and down guys I use a lot more down than up. Yeah, but yeah, but he has an up Justin: There's an up somewhere. He's not that good. We saw him against Jets. He's very easily rattled Vincent Jackson That's the up. That's the up throw it up there for the guy. So there you go, but they get killed with penalties Jake: I'm saying I think the Patriots are gonna win. I can't believe you think the Patriots gonna lose Justin: I don't think they're that good. Like I just saw them play the Jets and they were not good and I know Tampa's defenses Jake: just as tough to play against. I don't think TFC events is as good as Barret. I do. I feel like the Justin: back end is better and I feel like the front end is just as good if not better. Like you're not, you can't run on them and it's gonna be very hard to throw on them. Like look,
03 Justin: if if Tampa wanted to, they could say Revas cover Edelman. Where the fuck is he gonna throw the ball? He threw it to Adam in 18 times, right? Jake: But how many of those I mean how many of those rookies are gonna drop like 17 pass what they did I know but I still don't do it again. All right next up. Next up. We have Atlanta at Miami Justin: Miami is favorite crazy. I too this is ridiculous. There is a better team than Miami. There's two or no bullshit. It's bullshit Bullshit, they're not winning a three and write it down now. They're not winning again. I have Atlanta winning 24 16 They're too good. They're too explosive on offense even with the hobbled Roddy white They've got everything going on. I don't think Stephen Jackson's playing either, but I don't even care I don't care like he's not to me. He's not Stephen Jackson six years ago He's not Jackson now, which is like, okay, he's good, but he's not great I feel like Matt Ryan just wins this game for Atlanta. Give me Atlanta 24 16 to cover also. Jake: Yeah, I'm on the Atlanta bandwagon. I love to win this. I think they're going to win. I mean, again, if this were in Atlanta, like we have to go to in three weeks. Totally different situation. Justin: I mean, we get New Orleans at home. I'd rather not go to New Orleans. I don't know what Miami does. Oh, yeah, that would be great. Jake: Yeah, I think I think the land is gonna crush them. I think the the the the legend of of this Miami team is is away. If you want to get down, I watched that game last week because the wife was watching and I was sort of half watching as I watched 10 other games. It was just like their touchdowns were based on just really big broken plays. And they would go three and out, three and out, three and out, and then really big book and play. And it was just like, in these new goods. Justin: They got a second year player. They got a second year quarterback that's on the way. Jake: 30-18 Atlanta Falcons. Alrighty. Hawks to win. Justin: And then the game of the millennium. Game of the century. I'm dead serious. This is a big game. We got Rex. And petting squaring off. I love that it comes down to two coaches like, Yeah, well, even though they don't even coach against each other. Two rookie quarterbacks. Petting coaches defense. We got these two rookie quarterbacks, which is the first time I was reading. I think it's the first time ever I might be wrong. First time in forever that in a jet game, two rookie starters, one for the Jets, one for the opposition. Also looking back Rex Ryan in his tenure with the Jets is five and one against rookie quarterbacks his one loss coming last year in Seattle against Russell Wilson okay and Russell Wilson didn't really have a great game in that game Seattle had it was just Seattle at home is really difficult to play and they start every season 8-0. Yeah it's crazy I wish that MetLife Stadium was like that so you know here we have a rookie quarterback in UJ manual He's got weapons. He's got CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson run the ball.
01 Justin: He's got Stevie Johnson, who has perennially played very well against the Jats. He's even a receiver who like gave Reeves the hardest time. And then Brandon Marshall gave him like the hardest time. Jake: Yeah, he's he's he's he's the McGahey of receivers. Like he's the guy who like just kills the Jats. Just kills the Jats. But for the rest of the time, like you don't know him. Justin: But I guess he's a good receiver. Yeah, he's. average why they have a rookie named woods from USC who's also been pretty good this year So the Bills have some talent on offense obviously j-manuals first round pick they have a Mike petton defense Which will look somewhat familiar. I assume I haven't seen them play so I don't know if they're playing as same style as the Jets play, I assume they are. It's all he knows, he's coached with Rex for like 10 years. So have to think that he's got Jim Leonard there who knows that defense and that defense very well. She didn't let her for five years ago? No, Jim Leonard now, so it's not the same. Mario Williams last year had a last week had four and a half sacks against Carolina. I don't think he'll do that again, but they do have a good. front floor. They have a very good line. Um, they're not the bills from last year where you can just gash them for 150 yards rushing. I don't think the jets are built to even do that. Um, you think we're going to throw the ball 20 times. I think we're going to throw more like 30, 35 times because that's just the way Marty morning wake does it. It's a West Coast offense. You throw the ball. But you have a rookie quarterback who is struggling throwing the ball. That's what you do. You throw the ball. You have your game plan. You have your game plan. That's you follow your game plan. Their game plan is they throw the ball. They throw it short. They throw it down the field. What I do is they took a few more shots. They took some shots in the England game. Gino fucked them up. He threw it all short. throw it out there and let the guy go get it. Jake: I think that I want one play to be called the Gino, Gino rides the hill, Gino up the hill. And it is the play where he sees the coverage and it makes an audible and he goes, this is the play where hill goes as fast as he can go and Gino throws as fast as he can throw it, as long as he can throw it. And I wanna see who can go farther because I want that guy to speed down and I want him to throw it. Thank you. Like that's it. Justin: I don't think the Bills have a very good secondary. Jake: No, the secondary is hurting. They lost players before last week. Justin: No Jerry Bird. Jake: Yeah. Or Jerry's Bird. And I watched last week because I was watching because I'm a Cam Newton owner and I was watching him play. And that was Cam Newton's big play. It was like he would just see something and he would just whip it down the field and then someone would go down and catch it. In fact, it was Ted Jyn Jr. who was catching touchdowns. So it's like. Really? Yeah, like we have really like Ted Gindjian. Oh, we have guys like Ted Gindjian, right? We have guys who can do that. So I Justin: I think though I'm interesting cuz I'm very interested in seeing the Bills team There's some backstory to it also because Doug Marone the head coach of the Bills was the head coach for
04 Justin: Syracuse who played West Virginia Like the last three years his Gino was a starter at West Virginia and Doug Marone Is 3 and 0 against him and made him look awful, right? Every game they played he had like some of his worst games of his career against them So that'll be a never any worse game than Last week in college had some terrible games against against so give me your key to the castle and your score. Oh, man So my key to the castle is, and this is odd because I've been preaching there and throw their throat. They gotta be able to run the ball. You have to run the ball against the bills. The bills for the last bunch of years have been awful at stopping the run. So you have to be able to run the ball against them and you have to be able to shut. their run game down and make the rookie quarterback beat you because once you get them into third nates third nines then the exotic stuff could come and These rookie quarterbacks always seem flummoxed. I mean they made Andrew Luck look awful last year Awful and they've made other rookie quarterbacks look just completely terrible in past years. So I feel as though the key to the castle is really to run the ball and stop the run. Like, don't let CJ Spiller get those 50 yard runs because he's got one of those in him every game, it seems like. And you just disallow that and you're, you're kind of good to go. Jake: And your winner of the game. Justin: Oh, the Jets. Jake: And score? Justin: Same as you, 24-13. Jake: All right, so I'll give you my key to the castle. It's called Short and Long. What I didn't like about the game. So, your dick and my dick. Justin: There you go. Short, you, long. Jake: Nice try. Me. It's the throwing of the passes I thought last week, and I went back and rewatched it. I really felt like. Thank you. Again, he took the couple shots down the field. I think those are important because those keep people, keep the defense on. And I think he's got the arm and we've got a speed receiver who can do it. But I really want- Do we though? Justin: Who is that guy? Jake: I want three till he's the speed guy. I want the three step drops. Like I feel like Geno's thing is he's T. His decision making is too slow. He's- He's not seeing it happen fast enough. He's holding on the ball because he doesn't want to make a mistake, but then he's gonna make a mistake anyway. I want three steps and throw. I want to be boom, boom, throw, boom, boom, boom, throw. So I want these short passes. I want curling the slot. I want, I don't care how they line them up. I just want short, short passes. I think we do enough of that with a, doesn't that be a great running game? It doesn't be like, you know, one that can pick up four yards. I think we'll be able to move the ball. Like, I feel like we always gotten these third and eights and then he was trying to make a 20 yard pass or third and 15 because of a path of an interference. And, and like, he needs, he needs to learn how to get the ball out of his hands fast because Mario Williams is going to be coming for him.
00 Justin: So I just, I want, he plays against, he's kind of weird. Mario Williams always lines up. or traditionally I don't know what they're doing with them this year but I'm pretty sure he lines up against the right tackle. Yeah. So he's not lining up against D-Brick, he's lining up against Jake: Austin Howard which is a you know a difficult match. They just they just needs to know when to get that ball out and want to see it. His clock is like a half a second slow. It's it's like second and a half slow. The other interesting story in this is the picks because remember that Gino Smith going to the strap. Gino Smith was the number one rated quarterback by everybody who could breathe. Who could breathe. It wasn't a mouth breather. And it was, it was just, it was, it was consensus. Justin: It wasn't clearly. Cause he went in the second round and the quarterback was picked before he was. Jake: And everybody thinks that it was the biggest reach. since, whatever. Justin: Yeah. I don't think that's the consensus. Jake: It is the consensus that the reach for him. No, the consensus was it was a weak quarterback class and that quarterbacks would not go, there wouldn't be a lot that go in the first round. But if they were gonna go, it would be Geno Smith first. Justin: I think after two games, the Bills are pretty happy with their selection of EJ Manual. We'll see after three games. We'll see. I also gonna be a fun match else. I always love this game. We need to score in defense We can't just do enough need to turn them over and we need to go turnovers last we need to score now Jake: Tom Brady is very tough to make turn it over very tough Justin: I mean you can force a fumble or something. I mean, yeah, you know had really very humble now We almost had that one play. That one play. Well that play against Edelman that they called an incompletion where they shouldn't of it. It looked like a catch to me. Anyway, so that's my K to Castle. You know what's crazy? I'm sorry. I'm going all the way back to the beginning of the podcast. The fucking pads. Like not only do you really need a break to beat the most of the time, you never get it. Very rarely get a break. They get every fucking break in the books. They get a lot of breaks. They get a lot of breaks. Crazy. Jake: We were watching the game together and we looked at each other just like... Can we get a goddamn break here? Because it was like five in a row. Like this was a touchdown when it wasn't. I mean again, I a fan I'm always looking at it going, But man, it just felt like we haven't gotten, we got one break as I remember. It's one thing. I was like, Oh, we got that one, but it wasn't, wasn't enough. And that's, you know, Justin: Oh, you know what? We skipped over before we end this. Yeah. The shindig. You were the one telling me you had to go. Oh, I got a couple of minutes. Um, we have a change at punter. Oh yeah. So the loan is out Quigley's in Quigley the kicker Quigley, the punter. Yeah. He's in. Jake: Okay, yeah, I hope they saw something in that I don't know he was there in the preseason I'm looking forward to seeing on the field. Tell me is anybody but who was returning punts and kicks? Justin: Oh, we decided that our punt returner was so bad that we wouldn't even use one. Can we talk about that? That was really weird. Yeah, that was odd because You're watching a game
27 Justin: good start 3 4 5 6 7 6 9 7 8 you In on the flip side our punter punted nine times and they racked up 72 return yards. Yep, he could get it and go with it. I mean he returned six of the of the nine. We only returned two of the eleven and that's That's sick! Jake: No, we need a better... Justin: West off has anything to do with it and kickoff return has been completely eliminated from football Yeah, every kicker is kicking the ball through the end zone all the second on Royds Yeah, all of a sudden all those every single kicker can kick the ball through the upright. It's insane Jake: Alright, we gotta get out of here. You know, it's insane We're gonna win this fucking game. We're gonna be back two in one. We're gonna be back on Monday, bitches. We're gonna be back on Monday talking about this game. Can't wait. We're going to the game. Supposed to be raining. Oh, rain. That's no good. Rain and hike thing. Hope you feel better.
