20 Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast, longest running New York just Podcast ever. Jake joining me 265 times in a row Justin: Justin hey, buddy Awesome Wow, that's professional. All right, cool Jake: We had a we had a lot to talk about we got a lot to talk about we got to talk about just first bills We'll do an AFC domination. We'll talk about play the game, the Knights of the game. We'll pick the little AFC East Roundup. We'll talk about who's doing well or not in the Jet Kingdom Fantasy League. Then we'll do our Jet Kingdom pick them, all the games with the spreads besides the AFC East. Then we'll do the AFC East throne picks and end with the week three. a three near jets at Casey game game of the but millennium that's a new type of money on this thing Justin: were or we're talking about coaching you have a gripe or something Jake: no we're talking about coaching the others one gripe little great with a great gripe um and then we'll get the fuck out of here ready-like a plan let's do this so Really? You were saying? Ugh. You've been interrupting me all day. You're the worst. Justin: Dude, we fucking beat the Bills. The Jills. The 0 and 2 Bills. Yeah, well, you know what? We haven't beaten him in a while. It's true. And Fitz has never looked anywhere close to good, and he looked fantastic against the Ruxarine defense. So something happened. Jake: There were two Fitzs on this field. There was the Fitzs on the first drive. with a sack with a sack fumble and a weird fumble you think weird fumble both which. We just covered and basically it was just a look off like bad fit bad fits bad timing and you had to well you actually you, we weren't watching you were at someone else's house which is probably why I was going wrong so I blame you down the hall down the hall your neighbors but it I mean, I was shitting myself. I was like, if this is what's happening in this game. We're gonna lose a the Justin: I know, but I was sitting there with a Bills fan and he's like, we look like shit, you're going down the field. the field and I'm like, but we're fumbling and like making up all these third downs you're gonna you're gonna do these. Well, he was right.
02 Justin: Because I looked at it as a Jet Fan, and he was We both didn't, we both didn't like what we were seeing. Jake: And at the end of the day, while we won by 6, we kind of dominated the game So, right, well 21 of their points, 2 came off huge broken plays Just, you know, long bomb, one was a broken play, onehib was just Beat Ravis down in St. Ravis, which is like, you know, a new theme Not a good theme and then one was from our recovery so both styles 21 points was off of Justin: Basically, those points happened the two The Rong Pass and then the fumble happened within three minutes Yeah, so all of a sudden, you know, it's halftime and wanted it. We're winning 20 to 10 and then Five minutes into the third quarter, we're losing 24 20. And it's like, Oh, what just happened there? Yeah, but we were poised and we were confident and we came right back on the field and had a nice, long, nice drive and scored a touchdown, took the lead, never relinquished. So I'm. Jake: I'm going to, I'm going to jump. We'll come back to impress versus depress, but Two things on the coaching. Yeah, when that happened and we went down gave up 14 points in no time went HAVING A HUGE Justin: being under on two days in the world. One busted play long just right. How long was this? 71 yard touchdown pass to for Salas and the other one where the other one trying to make Little something happened and Jalen Marshall fumbles the ball and 36 yard return for a touchdown Jake: I said to you, I said aloud, I think I even tweeted, I was like, this is a test of the team but mostly coach Bowles. If Bowles can not let that team collapse, because I've seen those teams collapse, they can't get out of their own way. So I was impressed with that. The one thing that you called out when I watched the game, announcers called out later, why didn't he go for the two? Justin: Yeah, I don't know. He actually admitted later. He said, that's on me. It'll never happen again. Jake: But can I ask you a question? Like they have what? 13, 14 and staff, well, millions of dollars with equipment. Justin: Ultimately, the only person who makes that call as him. Nobody else is standing there on the sideline. But it's math! Coming up with 201, it is super simple math, there's a chart for it, and he said, that's my mistake. I was focusing in on the defense, wasn't paying attention. Oh, I hate that saying that. That was his, and he said, that'll never happen again. Situational football, that's on me. I have to be better about that. But yeah, there's no harming going for two. That is the point at which you do go for two. If you're up 12, if you're up 13, doesn't matter. You need to be up 14. Right. Because if they recover that onside kick. You're shitting a brick, right? I mean, you're sitting there, you're like, fuck, we had a 14.
01 Justin: We had a 13 point lead with like no time left. And you're sitting back in this. Bullshit defense and you don't want to whatever you let them go down the field still keep playing that defensive Every you know what I think it's cuz they don't want what they don't want to have happen is the one play down the field It's like you know what take your time time's on our side. Yeah, take your time We're gonna defend the sidelines and we'll give you 10 yard chunks and you can take your 10 yard chunks and you can I know we're actually wasted he wastes time outs on bullshit challenges and like what's the second down thing he'd he uh Jake: Four yards you took a timeout at second down whatever it's just retarded he is he's fired He is very far offensive coordinator was fired That's Greg Roman. Second year in a row that we've had a coach fired from one of our games. So last year they fired Dolphins head coach Phil Lynn and then this year they fired. So they throw up 31 Burger and and they Justin: fired the offensive coordinator because we scored 37 and clearly the defensive coordinator Had nothing to do with the outcome of that game. Right? Because he's awesome. Because he's a brother. Jake: the whole thing is such a shit show. Rex Ryan. Why was that not hard knocks? That should have been hard knocks. Justin: I would have paid for it. I paid double my HBO. I totally would have paid separate hard knocks fee. Literally. To watch the Rex and Rob show. $10 a show. Just to see it collide. So I have now come to the realization. It's taken me a while. Santa's Jest sucks. Nope. No, unfortunately, I think he had some promise, but got at a young age and in his formative years as a player was not coached properly because this coach Rex Ryan has a couple of things that he's good at. He's definitely a player's coach. He can definitely motivate and he knows defense. He does. Yes. And if he has the talent, the right pieces of the puzzle on the defense, they could be shut down. His system can lock you down if he has the pieces. If he has the 2009 version of Dorell Rivas, right? And all the other players that we had, like the David Harris, who's still around, but was younger at that point. They had Reeds and the... Right. And back to Baltimore, sure. But the Jets... Defense was very talented when Rex was there and He really did not give one shit about offense at all ever didn't even put like a thought into like
03 Justin: offense beyond I want to run the ball. Right, ground and pound. So I heard some good analysis of like when Greg Roman got fired it was very unfair to him because they can't run a system. And I see it now much clearer. The Jets run a system. You can see it. You watch. You're like, wow, they run a system. They're their offense. Is they're not running plays, which is what the bills are doing. Right. They're running a system. They're setting things up for later in the game. They've got these same guys in motion. And when they do this, this happens. And sometimes there's a variation on it and it tricks the defense. They've got guys who run certain patterns. They have a quarterback that can check out of things and can do other things and see something and say, you know what, I see that, I'm doing that. And it works for the most part. And the Bills, they're running plays. They're limited by their quarterback's capability to actually run a professional system. That's what you're seeing with the Rams and golf, just sitting on the bench when there's other rookies that are starting and this is the number one overall pick. Can't run a system. I think Rex is totally to blame. I Wouldn't even give him the requisite four games if he loses this week Jake: He's fired if I'm Buffalo management. Oh, he's going up against so this week's playing the Cardinals at home Justin: The next week is the Patriots with but it's like the requisite for why do you have to have four like he's clearly You're clearly gonna have a losing season, Buffalo. Jake: Well, because you're not at 0 and 2. 0 and 2, you still have a chance of doing something. I will bet you a million dollars. Well, no, I'm not gonna bet you a million dollars. Justin: They're awful. No, I do. I think they're awful. And then he signed this quarterback because he's not a quarterback. No, he's not. We didn't sack him because we didn't try to. The idea was tried to sack him. We didn't. The idea was not to let him run around. Yep. And they did that. They did that well. So I think it would have been great to sack him. But sure. But he's hard to sack. And when you get him in that like scrambley mode, that's when he makes big plays. That's when the Salas play happened on a like he contained. And I'm like, I'm yelling at you. Fuck, you broke contained. And then what happens? Boom down the field. It's like, God damn it, the whole idea is to stay in your lane to not let him run around and that will be a very good lesson for when we play Seattle in a couple of weeks. Jake: But Russell's, Russell ain't Russell at the front. Justin: Yeah, but he's the same kind of guy. Like keep him in the lane. Jake: Don't let him move. Alright, let's do quickly who impressed and who depressed. So give me one player that impressed and I'll give you a depressed.
00 Justin: Oh, my boy. So Is Impress Depress supposed to be the same as like, Night? Cause mine would be the same. Jake: No, someone who like, no. Your Night is your someone who you're saying like, well first this is your segment, I could kill it and not never go back to it. It is. It's my segment. Justin: So then, but it can't be your Night. But my boy, Quincy, how good is Quincy Anunwa? He is a different player is what he is. Jake: He's good. He's really good. It was like... A guy who I was like, okay, catch a few passes, drop more than a few passes. Good blocker. Good blocker. Strong, big, fast. But because what's happening is, obviously people were looking at tape from last year, they know that Decker and Marshall are where Fitz wants to go. And so they're basically saying, I'm not letting you go after them. Justin: And so this guy, he's big, he's strong, he's fast, and he's catching it. And this goes back to the system. The system means we're not running a play for Marshall. Sure, the play might be designed to go to Marshall, but if you're in your system, you have multiple plays. Jake: He sees one on one cover with this guy. I'm going to go for it. Because I trust him, and there's enough depth that I'm not throwing at someone who's just going to, you know, quiet. He's been playing better than Marshall. Like he's been amazing. He's been great. Say it aloud. Quincy and noon. What is he playing better than Brandon Marshall at this point? Justin: If he got the attention that Brandon Marshall. God, I don't think he'd be doing what he's doing, but that's the beauty of it. He's the number three receiver slash tight end. He reminds me of the hybrid. He's a, he's a, he's a I think the announcers made a really nice comparison now granted this is way ahead of itself but they were like he's kind of this hybrid he's like making up this weird position and they're like you mean like Shannon Sharpe right it's like yeah actually he reminds you of him not a hall of famer okay let's not let's not go crazy we're not that crazy as homers but at the same time Yeah, that's kind of the position he's playing. Jake: The difference between him this year, A, the throwing to him much more, and B, he's just catching them. He's catching it. He's catching everything. I don't know if he's dropped the ball. Justin: I don't know if he's over the shoulder. If he's wide open, he's snatching it. Right? He's not letting the ball come to his body. He's going and getting it. And Marshall called it. He said before the season in the like... You know, in the summer months, he said Quincy's gonna be a monster. He's coming for me. He's making me better, because I have to... He's a monster. So, deep breaths, we have to go back. We have to go to Revas. To go to Revas Resort. It's...it's head down depressing to see Dorell Revas get beat by... and also ran, even though he's a sprinter, he's like a legitimate, you know, finished seventh in the Olympic qualifying, which means you're fucking fast. But still like, dude, get your technique right and not let that guy behind you. I will say, I think.
02 Jake: I think there's very few quarterbacks in the world who could defend those two, the two big plays of last last week of of A.J. Green. And this week of that guy, that guy is so fast. So I feel like it's a little bit. Adrian's an amazing receiver and some of the catches he made were like insane. Insane catches. I think that's the thing. If, if that's sprinter, because that's sprinter, whatever his name is, Gordon. He just runs straight down the field. Justin: And I bet if I ran that play 10 times, he catches the ball twice. Probably. It's got to be a perfect throw in the perfect spot. And he's got to beat Reavis. He's got to get behind him. Jake: Right. And I don't think he does that every time. I think that that's a high, a low probability of actually success. But it's worked. And what the problem is, we have two weeks back to back. So I'm not like that's the word worried like I love this week. I'm actually excited I hope they just throw him on Maclin. I think he can cover Mac cover Maclin Let's see you cover Mac, but if we go up against let's see. Let's go next week Justin: Seattle Baldwin. Yeah, I'm not so worried about I'd rather just throw him on curse So yeah, I'm of the mode now where just throw him on the two throw him on the two shut the one out But we are very man to man doesn't matter who you are because I mean we had Marcus Williams out there on on Sammy Watkins He should have been just covering Sammy Watkins right all truth the guys hobbling around right? Okay, Reavis go cover him the call let the younger faster guy cover the effects faster guy That's what it's gotta be, because it's not about- And Williams played well, I mean he made the pick, he's always around the ball. Guys, just constantly. Jake: You just need someone fast to stay with them. Even if they're gonna make a mistake, even if he's gonna get beat- He's gonna drop it half the time. That's right. Justin: He's not a receiver, he's a runner. I-I-I-I totally get you. So, that's the depress. Let's get some injuries. Marshall looked- We were crying. I mean we were like oh, season's over. Season's over. Okay pack it up pack it in We're done and the guy comes back out in the Without his gloves on and and actually makes a catch. I love that he ran the dude over Yeah, he ran Gilmore Gilmore's the guy grabs him by the face mag drags him down Twists up his whole leg and Marshall's like I thought I was done I thought I was going fishing in my backyard in Florida. And he just comes back out in the same quarter. You didn't even wait till after half. And Gilmour's covering him and Fitz goes right at him. He catches it. He's got yards in front of him. And instead of like trying to run around him or go out of bounds, he runs through him. And that's the attitude I love. But man was that scary. That was scary Decker has got a shoulder thing, but he says I'm fucking playing Yeah, he's like I'm playing and then Carpenter carpenters a leg calf and Rumor has it. He'll be playing also. Yeah, but His replacement is also our backup center
01 Justin: Who ended up playing pretty well? You sort of didn't notice right and the Jets did bring in a guard to work out this week just to see maybe just to add some depth if Carpenter was not gonna be able to play but the rumor on the street is that carpenter will be playing So, for the most part, we're still healthy. Jake: Can we get one question about the game that I still don't understand? We haven't really talked about the big thing. Well, let's talk about your night. Justin: Talk about your night and I'll do the- Of course, we'll do it when we're done. All right. My night's forte. So Fitz, we haven't even talked about it. It had like the game of his life. He did. Jake: I, again, I'm very, I went back and re-watched the game. I know I'm very like I'm a jet and I always see the like the negative and thing Negative things but I see so many plays like he tripped when he threw it in the triple coverage with Marshall Justin: It's like that type of stuff. I'm like, why are you doing that? His he had a 70% completion percentage. He threw for 374 yards 116 QB rating a touchdown, no turnovers, even though he had fumbles, didn't turn the ball over. And I think he's I can't remember the stat off my head and it's not on this fucking box score, but it was like a very large amount of balls traveled over 15 yards. He was journal. He was thrown deep, a lot of deep. So what was your play of the game? My play of the game was the first third down conversion on the first drive of Quincy. Yeah, it set the tone. Quincy and Numa set the tone very early with Fitz. And I think it had an impact on the defensive game plan, which then allowed for, I mean, you had You had Decker with 126, six catches. Marshall with 101, six catches and missed parts of the game. And Inoune with six catches for 92 who also missed parts of the game with the rib injury. Yep, which he said I think he'll be playing as well. And then you had Jalen Marshall at 45 yards. I mean, it... I think it set the tone to the point of like, hey, defense guys? We've got this other guy who will go off if you don't cover him. So feel free to single him. We don't care. We'll throw wherever the play dictates. And after the first drive, they didn't get as much pressure on Fitz either he was able to escape a couple of times. And. And the running game started to work it just set the tone in they and they did what we said last week Which is the key to the game like hey, it's hard to run on a Rex Ryan defense It is no matter who's out there. It's hard to run on that. Well, he wants to stop Hey, that's where he wants to stop the run, right? You have to run the ball and I think we even said like if they run 35 times
00 Justin: and they pass 35 times, we'll be in great shape. And you know what? They ran 36 times and they threw 34 times. So they did exactly what we wanted. They stuck with the run when it wasn't really happening. And god damn it, I just wish Forte didn't run 30 times and Powell once, which seemed Jake: really weird. Powell's on the... field so I rewatched and he was on the field there's one run but there's one they're trying to like screen it to him or shuttle it to a couple of shovels to Justin: him but like why wasn't he I feel like five of those 30 carries that for Tega should have been Powell carries just why the guy's old why 30 carries he's not Jake: gonna he's not gonna last Thursday night Justin: Which is just made for injuries. Why are we running the guy? Jake: So my my play the game is that actually is the forte? He had some good like pounded in kind of things But that's like the line the one where he broke broke through He broke there was a 12-yard run that one I was like and it was also getting close to the like that was a ceiling to deal That was kind of a game and walked it in and he just went and right through he has more bursts than I thought he'd have Justin: He's really good in the passing game. He's smooth. He is. He's silky. He's not gonna run anybody over. No. He's kind of the opposite of Chris Ivory. Yeah, he doesn't even have a whole lot of wiggle in him. He's just smooth. Right. Like he's like a He's not even a one cut guy. I don't even I don't know. Yeah, he's not like other Running backs that we've had in years past He's just smooth. He's a smooth runner. He's a glider. Yeah, I think they call it like a he's a glider. I Jake: Don't know. That's my play. It works. It works. We won one-in-one Let's talk about the rest of the AFC East sure so Patriots and dolphins Dolphins with all their starters Patriots had to go down to their third Justin: string quarterback and still win. I wish there was another quarter in that game. That dolphins are terrible. I know, but they almost won. Yeah, they were coming back on them because that's where they put the if Garabolo played the whole game, then the Pats probably win by like 35. They were just destroying them. So is Garabolo good or are the Pats just that good? In terms of a system or did they just have such a good system? I mean, I think he's average cuz Gronk not on the field for any of his play. No Well, he's not hasn't played in two games. That's what I mean like Garoppolo's throwing up numbers. So is Brady that good? Jake: Lens leads to that question it it is Brady is that good. You can't question him I just it is interesting to watch Justin: Wish we had four games with Garoppolo. He's not gonna play this week. I wish you had four games I wish you would have seen him play against Houston on the Thursday night because Houston's got a defense Houston and they'll come after you We'll talk about that game in a bit. Jake: But I like I like having two of the two of the AFC East at zeros. That's nice
00 Jake: Yes, we're kind of where we where we want to be. I I wish I don't know, I wish that the... Now the best we can work with is two of two for them. Justin: Listen, we can only worry about ourselves. We gotta get through this hard part of our schedule. We come out of it. Out of the first six weeks, we'll know how good we are. Because we'll either be like, this is our win against the shitty bills, right? Or we'll be who fired their coach after four games. Well, who probably will. Or we'll be, you know, a 500 team or better. Right. And and then we'll know. We'll be like, OK, we're for real. Like we have the talent. So 500 team or better. Check in the fantasy league. Jake: The standings. You and I are both one-and-one. We both won a week and lost a week. Oh, I beat you So that's the most important part Genoside Is 2-0 the mean green slobber knocker is 2-0 and then the West lost Yeah, you're one-and-one though. I thought I lost this week. No you won Oh cool. Yeah, and so it's good my my my my using my uh you know tight end boss wick who got thrown to he almost had a ball he could have almost had a point Justin: I almost had a point and a half. I could steal the draft so far and new one it's pretty good. Quincy a new one though. Man oh man pretty good with Kellen Davis on the bench as a backup just in case just in case Yeah, you need us on the backup. All right, so let's go and let's do our pick them want you lead us off All right. What are we doing here? Let's do this so we're picking every single game against the spread and We're gonna skip the AFC East games because we picked those in on slightly more in-depth later on. Let's talk about the standings first. And we'll go to the standings. I was actually just heading there right now. Leading is past the Forte. Great name. Good name with an overall record of 20 and 12. Pretty good. Go to Vegas. I am at 15 and 17, so slightly under 500. and you are 11 and 21. Yeah, my first week I had four. Tide with Balal Plowal and just slightly below reigning champ, Gareth Dobson. Alright, let's go to the video tape. Sorry, let's go to the pics. So we have to skip a few just to start because they're AFC East match-ups. Thursday night being an AFC East and the first game listed being an AFC East. So let's move right along to what could be the game of the afternoon, but I haven't looked at all of them just yet and looking at the schedule, we do have five four o'clock games, but we are one of them, which kind of ruins it. Kind of. So let's start with Cincinnati hosting Denver. This line was off for two days. I don't know why. Injuries who's injured? I don't
03 Justin: know. Unclear? Cincinnati though is favored by three and I haven't seen anything from Denver yet that makes me want to bet against them especially getting points that defense will travel so I'll take the points. I kind of feel like since he's gonna be better at home coming off a big loss against a rival. They haven't played a home yet, too. I think this is their home opener. I'm a consistency. I lament the fact that we did not R.I.P. them, because we had them. It's crazy. We had. Had them. We had them bad. And that might be our fucking season. And a little callback. Yeah, so I was listening. Everyone by everyone knows I love Bill Simmons. He's got his podcast and he had Michael Lombardi on who no longer works for an NFL team or whatever, so he used to have him on all the time. And they used to talk about the NFL and Lombardi. had been working for the Patriots for the last couple years and he very wisely was talking about third downs in the red zone and he called them four point plays. Okay. Because he said you get a third down in the red zone you've got to convert because if you don't convert you're basically kicking a field goal. Right. And you're giving up four points he calls those play those are such big plays and there's often only like You can only really have one or two right third downs in the red zone because whatever and And he said the jets left so many points on the field in that Cincinnati game by Going like two of five on third down in the red zone plus getting The kick blocked he's like we left like 12 points on the field in that game Based on just his like four, Not Detroit we want we argued about two of them. I said there's no way Detroit should be favored by more than three points against against anybody right now. What have they proven? And they were favored by like five against Tennessee. So I took Tennessee and they Tennessee ended up beating them. Yeah. I don't know what to make of this green base favored by seven and a half. I don't think that either of these teams are all that great. It's in Green Bay. They probably kicked Detroit's ass there. Often, but I'm gonna pick Detroit for that half Jake: I'm gonna take Detroit because I feel like even though they just lost their main running back I don't think they're a big running back team Green Bay didn't look good Justin: Watching them a lot. They look off. They miss the them. What do they miss now? No, no What did you just say they're missing their main running back? Oh Abdul is out Oh Detroit. Yeah, yeah Riddick is the same whatever right i just that's what i'm saying it's not a big deal because they're not a
02 Jake: big running team um i don't know i feel like the choice just gonna hang with them i think Justin: too many is gonna win but i think they're gonna hang even a back door cover where like they're down 14 and then they score a touchdown i could see it ending 28 21 and they're still covered that's why i'll take detroit i'm i'm i'm in total agreement all right it's we're gonna fail totally yep go to vegas bet on the pack all right tennessee Will take your call and the one in and Jake: High Street, I don't like West Coast going East Coast. No, I'll take Tennessee. We got the G men Justin: Washington football team and the G-men are favored at home by four and a half. And while I do think the Giants will win, the Giants have now, they're two and oh, It is I don't know what's that. Because he's got, he does have something on Odell. Odell did go ape shit when they played last year. Yeah, no, I get it. Like, not ape shit in a good way, like, he mentally lost it. So, you know, they went in a bad way. I don't know about that. Alright, alright. He's hosting Minnesota. And Minnesota lost Adrian Peterson to a torn meniscus. Idiots. Out for week to saying with meniscus injury. Seems about right for a guy that's in the shape that he's in. They weren't really running the ball very well anyway with him. So I don't know if that These are two really good defenses so seven points is a big spread But last week Carolina was favored by 13 and changed and I picked them and they won they cover by I think they won By 20 I'm gonna I'm gonna go with Carolina here
00 Justin: Begrudgingly, I kind of want to pick Minnesota, but it's really tough on the road Jake: Carolina it's a good defense. Oh there's so much to say about this Minnesota no AP Minnesota the crap QB. I don't know if that really matters. The crap, well they can't run so that's that. Well they couldn't run with him so I don't know if it matters. And do you think that Sam Bradford's gonna go into Carolina against that D and do anything? Well he played plenty well the other night. Yeah it's deceiving. Justin: Why is it deceiving? No. Tell me. No. They beat the Packers. Jake: Yeah, I don't think the Packers are a good D. Justin: Why? Jake: Because they're not. Didn't the Jaguars score 27 points on them the week before? Justin: I don't think that many, but in the 20s, I think it was like 27, 24, 25, 20 something. Jaguar Bradford played really well like what do you have against him? He he's a terrible quarterback two touchdowns No picks. Nope one terrible quarterback 121 QB rating He's got 27.23. He's got a really good weapon out there in Stefan Diggs Yeah, I just don't I don't believe in Bradford. I'm picking Carolina because I like Carolina not because I don't like Minnesota. I am picking. You're doing the opposite. That's correct. I think Carolina is a better team at home. Minnesota is not a good team. Last one o'clock. Jacksonville. My Jags. Get off the Schneider here and pick them against Baltimore. Jacksonville wins Jacksonville your pick to win that division now Jake: Oh and to sucks though that Owen to Justin: Well, and with a 4% chance you got any got the Colts in there at Owen to you got Tennessee who stinks You just got to worry about it. Yeah, but they still stink you got to worry about Houston who's undefeated. All right fine. Well they're playing the Pats this week on the road short week in New England. I think they'll do just fine. I don't know about that. All right I will take Jacksonville. I think they'll get a win. All right four o'clock Seattle with a hobbling Russell and injuries everywhere in a terrible offensive line. Hosting San Francisco and still favored by nine and a half. I gotta take San Francisco. I just can't do any points Yeah, I agree I mean I guess Russell is healthy if they had any semblance of an offensive line or running if Thomas Rawls was actually healthy They got there's nothing going for them. Nothing. I gotta take San Francisco Alright, another four o'clock. Tampa is hosting the Los Angeles Rams where Jared Goff dressed and was the backup. You're so obsessed with him. You're obsessed with Goff. I'm obsessed with him sucking. Well he hasn't played yet. Yeah, that means he sucks. He's not ready. Jake: No, it just means that he hasn't played yet. Justin: It means he's not ready to play which is...
00 Justin: Awful. Jake: I, I, we're gonna say it this, maybe we'll say it every week. They're not basing on whether he's awful or not. They're basing on they don't want to put him out there just to put him out there. Justin: I don't agree with their theory. Number one overall. I don't agree with their theory. I'd go like the Eagles are going and let's see what you got and look hey he's pretty decent. I understand. But there are Jake: There are quarterbacks who have come out and been thrown in the fire and don't do well or they don't have the right step. Justin: What I don't understand is that's when you're a terrible coach. But this team has... Uh, maybe they got nothing. Yeah. What do they have? They got nothing, I guess. What do they have? Jake: Tampa's hosting on their favorite wide receivers the Todd Gurley who's just talking really yeah, but that's a one-hit wonder We haven't seen him do it for more than once Got Tampa. I got Tampa favored by four and a half. I like Tampa at home. I'll take Tampa All right, Los Angeles hasn't scored a touchdown, right? Justin: No, but I'll take one but I'll take Tampa just like your just like your Tennessee Titans. They're one and one Tennessee can score really Yeah, they really put up points last week Alright the Colts are hosting San Diego and the Colts Our favorite by two and a half and they have like five injured corners and they're facing Phil Rivers I will take San Diego San Diego not usually a good road team for some reason Phil brothers went insane last week the injuries with no Keenan Allen and losing wood head in the middle of the game It doesn't even matter. He's just like whatevs. Yeah, that's a system. I think this will be a high Jake: I think this will be like a 30 31 game I just think to go back and forth back and forth back and forth Andrew Luck looks off. I Justin: Don't know know nowhere to go. They got no running game. They got back. That's a bad drafting team They actually are terrible. They're really bad at drafting. Uh, I'll take San Diego. I mean, they were like missing Antonio Cromartie when he went out. I mean, that's bad. I know we're a year off from him being like a 16 game starter, but that's just, he was so terrible. It's like, wow, this is bad. Alright. Last four o'clocker, cause we're not talking about us yet. Pittsburgh at Philly. Battle of Pennsylvania The pride of Pennsylvania this line jumped Pittsburgh was favored by five now favored by three and a half I will take those extra one and a half and I will bet on Pittsburgh Jake: I think Philly's on a bit of a roll. I think they'll stay close. So I'm gonna take Philly Justin: You're gonna have them at three and oh, yeah Philadelphia Jake: Yeah Well, they really yeah Huh Carson once is I was watching him and you know, I was impressed more than I thought I was like he's making some really good plays
00 Jake: I mean, he's still rookie, but He looks good. I Threw him on my I threw him on my fantasy team as a Just like a long-term flyer. Alright, keep going. Justin: No, I mean, that's a good smart move, but I'm just saying like 3-0 for that Philly team. Pittsburgh's really good. But maybe their defense is not bad. Jake: Like, the Philly defense is actually not bad. I don't know. Justin: Who they played, because Chicago stinks. Like that was awful. That is true. I mean, Chicago's really bad. And they beat Cleveland, who's really bad. True. They're 2-0, but they beat two really bad offenses. True. With teams that don't have good defenses either. So I think they're pretenders. Right, but they've also put up 29 points each. Against each game. Crap. Jake: All right. Justin: We'll see. I mean, come on. Cleveland. I hear you. Chicago, and these are bad games. I hear you. All right, let's go to Sunday night, which is supposed to be this great football night. You're supposed to be getting the best game and we get scrapped. How did this... this is what I feel like this is our earlier. This is a ratings game because these two teams draw. This is a ratings game. Dallas is hosting Chicago. I mean, I think people show up for Dallas, but Chicago is terrible. Chicago is one of the biggest markets in the entire country and they are one of the biggest fan bases in the entire country great Can't wait Alice Dallas favored by seven Dallas and this line jump from four to seven I think that's Cutler probably. Yeah Cutlet I'll stay I'll stay with Dallas well, he didn't finish the game. I never I Wasn't watching it, but I saw later. I was like, oh why'd this other guy play? Oh, wow. Cutler got hurt Oh, give me Dallas. All right, New Orleans is hosting Atlanta both these teams suck Monday night At least it's a division game This might be somewhat entertaining. I guess I I think I guess I'll just take New Orleans at home with the three and be Happy with it. I think norance is pretty bad. I'll take a land. They're both bad. They're both bad But I think Atlanta's just that much better Alright, let's go to the FC East. Let's So we have a Thursday nighter in the AFC East. We have gonna be on the road We're the only road team in the AFC East. No, I mean you and I are gonna be on the road We'll be watching this game. Oh, yeah for sure. Sure. I know we have dinner at 7 who planned that And then my wife, my wife, knowing that there's Thursday night football. That's on eight 30. What do you care? Oh, like that cruise not going to be done eating by I'll be walking out at 825. I'm right behind you. Yes. And we're the drivers. Down the block. It's a walk back to the hotel. Perfect. We'll see you at the hotel bar. That's right. So Houston. put my daughter to bed. Sure. And I need to help. That's right. Wait. Okay. Maybe. Yeah. Okay. Houston at New England, New England's home. They're so fucking lucky. They get their Thursday night game out of the way at home. And this is actually not them being lucky. They just lost their second
06 Jake: string quarterback. They got to go to the third string quarterback and they got four days to get ready. Justin: A rookie age, Jacoby Percet. Drafted in the third round after Hackenberg so if you can imagine this like could be Hackenberg right like for us Lucky for us we have four. Yeah, this would be petty. We have how many running backs we have I Think we have four if you count the fullback Who's the third running back his name's Pope something Okay. He was with Seattle. I don't even think they dress him. I think they only dress three. I think they dress Forte, Blaupau, and then fullback who I don't think can run the ball. I think he's really just a special. They really have two guys who could carry the ball. It's a little scary. I should have running back in place. Jake: My one thing about this draft, I'm still going back to is like, I wish we had a running back apparent somewhere. Justin: I feel like you should draft, like you like drafting a quarterback every draft. I like drafting a running back between four and six. Yes, I totally draft a body. He might be great. Right. You never know. He might be, you know, but like having nobody. All right, let's go back to the game. So Houston at New England. New England is with Brissett and their backup is Julian Edelman. No joke. They're actually getting ready for the game. Like, who they should get ready for the game and they might just be running jet sweeps and options and some nonsense. I got this tight. I got this close. I think we have this different. We do. No, my gun's too fucking good. They just figure it out. 1310. In a stupid, stupid way, I just feel like they're gonna figure out how to win the game. I think this is the end of figuring out how to win. Jake: Oh, I fucking hope so. 2413 Houston. Oh, I'll take it. All day long. I think it's gonna be, I mean, they're usually low scoring Thursday night games, although we just had a 3731. It's true. So... Justin: Brock the cock. Brock the cock. He's not terrible. Jake: That's what I like. Justin: You can say that. Jake: So and I just I can't see it. If they win this game, if the new one is this game, I just feel like we just give up being just fans to stop because it's not fair. They can go to a third string quarterback on a short week with the drunk who might again not play. and win games. Create against a good defense. I feel like J.G. Watt, and maybe I'm picking a Justin: little bit of my heart here, but I feel like J.G. Watt has a J.G. Watt type of game and just destroys this little fucker or big fucker, whatever, I don't care. Fuck this little fucker. Uncle fucker. All right, next up. All right, next up we have Arizona.
00 Justin: At Buffalo, Arizona favored by four and a half. Arizona just dominated last week after kind of being dominated a little bit by the Pats, but they came out and just killed Tampa. They scored 40 points and Bruce Arians came out after the game and said Our offense didn't play well, right? They dropped 40. Buffalo has no answer for Larry Fitzgerald. They have no answer for Michael Floyd. They have no answer for David Johnson. And Arizona has a good defense and All they need is the one corner that they have to cover the one receiver that the Bills have and then that's kind of it They're not gonna be able to run on them. I got this 34 13 Arizona. We're very close. I see this as a Jake: 3815 Arizona win I again, I'm just basically taking like last week and taking taking away the three touchdowns that they You know, the only thing is I think Carson Palmer is a statue and if you can get to him, you can make things happen. But it'll be interesting to see their game plan for this. But I say 38-15 Arizona wins, wins, wins. Justin: Next. We have an awful game. We have Cleveland. at Miami. Miami favored by 10. So I'm running to Vegas and I'm gonna bet on Cleveland. Yeah, but I think they lose. 13. I think Miami wins the game, but there's no flipping way that they're covering a 10-point spread. I'm actually agreeing with you. Jake: I didn't get to see a lot of that. I mean, I was watching a lot of games, so I didn't pay too much attention to the Pats Miami game. I don't know. Miami's kind of... They're kind of on the edge of their, you know, world too. They lose this game and they're in deep shit. They could be, well, that first year head coach, I guess I'm not going to fire him. To me it's all about Tannehill. I think Miami is gonna win this. I think this is the week that maybe there's a lot of like evening out of the AFC East. We'll have one and two, one and two, two and one, and two and one. That's what I feel like we'll get to at the end. So I'll take Miami 2017. Justin: All righty. Game of the week, game of the year, game of the century, game of the why. Jake: These next four games show who the Jets are. Are we a team that beats up on shitty teams? Or are we a team that can go in and beat good teams That we can be able to beat like we need to be able to beat good teams. Casey. It's a good team They're not the greatest team. They're not like playing up against I mean who's like the best team in the league right now Ooh hard to say
01 Justin: Who would you say the best team right now right now i'm going to go to the divisions It's more like who do you not want to play? Um I I think it's I think I Think there's what I don't say there's three three teams that are To me like a cut above. It's the two Super Bowl teams It's Carolina Denver. Yeah, and it's a Patriots true I would throw in that right now. I might throw Pittsburgh in there. No problem about the Vikings Yeah, Panthers Panthers are really good Jake: Cardinals are the one of those teams that I think they're really good. They're one-on-one right now But I feel like that's not the way it's gonna play the Pats Justin: I mean, you know shit happens when you play back quarterback Jake: with our wrong to So let's do it. Let's see this. What are we going to do? We already talked about the injuries. So let's get to what the keys of the castle are for this game. Justin: All right. So I remember the last time that we played Kansas City and we got. You do. Yeah, it was a couple of years back. It was in Rex's. I think it was Rex's last year. And we got tricked. Tricked to death renewing it Meaning Kansas City's offense happens a lot at the line of scrimmage or Like two yards behind the line of scrimmage or like three yards in front of the line of scrimmage There's a lot of motion. There's a lot of Chicane re there's a lot of like jet sweeping and wide receiver screening and A lot of passes to the running back. And we got to shut that shit down. So our defensive line has to be in the backfield all day long. Make Alex Smith. Like really fluster him. And at the end of the day, we have to take all that little nonsense that trickery and that short bullshit and take it away and make him beat us down the field. Which he can't do. I don't think he can. He cannot do. That's the thing. So we have to take that nonsense, that stuff, that misdirection bullshit and the motioning and all that and... get rid of it. He's also very mobile so learned some lessons from last week and you know in keeping Taylor in the pocket like let's do that again and I just remember so many times just these like like tricky little plays like this very west coasty offense that It's just based in misdirection and and scheme right they have like they have a system Let's let's find those tendencies and let's let's beat them out of them last time we played them though
03 Jake: They had someone on the field. That's Justin: Either he's give me on the field, but it's not gonna be I don't know if they had your mom Charles They did I was just watching the replay did you yeah, we had Gino Yeah, and no receivers, right? We're totally different offense Jake: This is they're the opposite of the bills like they're the bills opposite like you have a guy you have a quarterback who doesn't throw deep You don't have anybody who speed freaks you got to worry about Macklin and Kelsey That's what I feel like you got to worry about Macklin's good, but he's not elite. Kelsey's good. He's a big guy. You gotta put someone on him. I think this is a Darren Lee game for him prior staying close to him. He's a guy who can get those first downs. Alex Smith is not a long ball thrower. He likes to dink and dunk. Was there some stat that he didn't throw over 20 yards for like four games or 10 games? Justin: He didn't throw touchdown to a wide receiver two years ago. Right. But then they went and got Macklin, but still it's like, all right, Macklin's good. He's good. But like Macklin's kind of like what Decker was on the jets two years ago. Right. Without the Marshall next to him. Right. It's like, oh, he's good. But if you put. Like when Macklin had Deshaun Jackson next to him and they were like more in their primes like oh Macklin's really good on if he's number one, it's like yeah. All right on defense Jake: You you have to you have to keep to to get to um, Alex met and I think this is this is a game of turnovers I I just feel it well, they don't turn the ball over But this is a game of turnovers because I think if you just stack us up against each other we're we're They're all matched. They have a pretty good offense. We have a pretty good defense. We have a pretty good offense. I don't know about their defense so much. I don't know. This is the team that let San Diego score 21 points on them unanswered to start. But they did end up winning that game. They did. They came back. That's the sort of thing. I feel like this is going to be won by one of those turnovers. It's whether we get it or they get it. Justin: There's things you can't predict. What did they do? Cause I know that, like, what did they do? They lost to Houston. So, clearly a good defense can shut the shit down. Shut it down. Well, they lost 1912. So what they do? Kick a bunch of field goals? Yeah, they didn't even score a touchdown. Right now 12 in Houston though sure They scored 12 points. But what they did was they they they They apparently kept everything in check, right? They didn't let them go crazy You know with the downfield nonsense Alex Smith he completes 20 passes for 186 yards who gives a shit Jake: Well, that's that's the point like you keep give that but then you go the next game and he they put up 35 points like
00 Justin: The other thing just to note is that Houston... Houston stuck with the run as well. So like Lamar Miller didn't have the greatest game in the world, but he did run the ball 25 times. Again, I think we match up well. I just... There's just... We have to do that. We have to make sure that we run the ball at least 25, 30 times. Like we really should be running the ball 30 times a game. Jake: But we need to have more. Gosh, put it out more. I want to see more. Justin: You worried about Kelsey at all? Jake: Yeah, I just said I'm worried about Kelsey because he's that worried about big Justin: spider wear now. I mean, he's pretty good. Jake: I don't think a running game or running defense is going to be as good as last year, but I think it's going to be good enough to win games. Like I feel like he's pretty good. Justin: But I think we can over commit and then they can be as good without snacks. Well, that's impossible Right, because snacks is a great run defense. He's just probably one but it's not gonna be as good But it's gonna be good enough to win. I guess not gonna give up big we have All right. So Cincinnati is a good running team, right? They couldn't run on us not much and the bills didn't run us either at all. No, I have a couple plays but not much Not really Jake: Well, I think they're gonna get us where I think you can run on the jets if I'm like game planning It's not the traditional run. It's the faking. Yeah, it's a little direction It's that we have to watch out for because once you get because I think ever We're so concerned that line is so concerned about getting to the quarterback that they over commit and if you just get the running Back out five feet then he can get gone and I think that's where he'll get by there and we he'll get by You know I We did this independently. Yeah, I have this Jets winning 28-27. Not sure how we get to that. I don't necessarily mean that that's like the, like, oh, it's, you know, we come down and score. But I could see, like, I don't think they're a team that gives up. Obviously, when they play against, they're not a team that gives up. They're not going to fold. So I think they'll stick it in there. But I think we can pull out this win. Justin: I was winning 24-23. 24-23. Yeah. I have us coming back from 2317. Jake: Coming back from 2317? Oh, that's all right. All right. Well, let's get out of here. We'll be back next week. Win, lose, or shine. Got to get to it. Very excited. Short weeks, long weeks. You and I are doing some crazy things over the weekend. Maybe we'll talk about next week. If not, who gives a shit? We'll see you all when the sun rises again, as always, Justin Jake saying, let's go check
