09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away from me! Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcasts, the longest running near-jets podcast. I'm Jake, as if you had forgotten my name because it's been almost a month and a half, and my co-host for today and today only. is Grumpy McGrumpster. Justin: I'm a little grumpy man! Raaaaaar! Jake: Hey Justin, how you doing today? That's twice. The second time was funnier though. He's turning beet red. I hate you. I hate you so much. So good. I just hate you. Hey everybody, we're back! I don't like you. I am. So, first of all, we apologize. We probably don't. They're probably at the end of the last, Justin: no, because there's no reason for us to have podcasts. We probably said, welcome back next week. When free agency starts, no. I know what we said. We said, well, either come back, like if there's news, or we'll just wait for something to happen. So stuff happens, so now we're back. All right, we're back. All right. Well, it's been a week since free agency started now's the time to kind of check in that's true big chips have fallen and. Now it's time to talk a little bit about it. So let's get freaky Jake: Okay with free agency all right Whatever you say So yeah, it has been a week that first couple days I was actually on a plane at 4 o'clock when it hit and so I'm like kind of sitting next to a Giants fan and he's like a friend so not just some random fucker just randomly saying things but he was like, oh this oh that oh we just signed this And oh this has just happened. Oh, I can't believe that just happened. And I was like Oh, okay, okay. And it felt like for the first day, it felt like nothing happened for the Jets. In fact, it felt like, you know, like whistle, whatever whistling sound or, you know, tumbleweed through the town. And then all of a sudden it started to pick up steam and we started signing some guys. So let's go down the list. Let's probably go from least important to most important. Okay. Okay. Justin: Or most importantly determine what you think is least important and I'll I'll play along Jake: um It's probably this Actually, that's like his pace Calvin pace least important disagree 33 year old guy He's just he's a piece of body. Okay, I'll disagree. Okay, who's the least important Jeff Cumberland Justin: Big cop? Big cop. No way. He's just completely average. He's not even average. He's just a Jake: tight end. Just a tight end? That's all he is. Who plays the National Football League? As a starter.
04 Justin: He's completely average. Okay. He's any other tight end out there. I mean he's a big guy. Most tight ends are. Well, new tight ends are. Old tight ends used to be not so big. He's basically Every other guy except Jimmy Grant. Jake: Didn't he score the most touchdowns of anybody like any receiver last year? I think with four jets. Justin: Yeah, that's that's an incredibly sad statistic. Jake: We were the worst on the offense. That's true. Justin: It's like score more touchdowns. Yeah, it's it's whatever. It's it's insignificant. Any tight end would have been just as. Jake: Alright, so he was gonna be my... Third. But okay, so who's your... So your number one... Number... The least impressive signing was Big Come. Yeah. Justin: So he re-signed. Oh well. And then next... Ho-hum. Jake: Ho-hum. Justin: Well, let's set the stage. Jake: We went into this cap with a lot of room. We had... We dropped guys. So, Holmes gone. Yeah. Karmarti dropped. Right. Sanchez... Hangin' on for dear life! Hangin' on. Justin: I just watched his... He might just... Jake: I just watched his interview with TMZ. They caught him outside of a restaurant or something. He's got a week. Yeah. I mean, they're playing it smart. It's like, listen, we don't have to get rid of him until we have to get rid of him. Justin: They don't even have to get rid of him at this. Jake: Well, it's just when they pay him. It's like, we don't have to get rid of him until we have to pay him and we're not going to pay him. We're paying him a week. Right. We got till the. 25th, I think like I said, yes week So but those are the only two big drops. I mean there were other free agents who I mean obviously guys which we didn't say some guys Justin: We got Taken away from us like Howard Howard Howard was a loss although we replaced them with the cheaper version, right same age Super Bowl winning Right tackle. They're the same position that to me is fine Jake: That's me is important because I think again the lines are important. So I'm glad they replaced the guy me too Give me a starter quality guy. Yeah, right for the starter. Don't give me another guy least going from least Justin: Um, yeah, now I'll throw Calvin pace in there, I guess. I mean, they needed him for the depth. He knows the defense, played better last year, sets an edge, can finish off. He had like 10 sacks. Yeah, double digit sacks. Yeah, I mean, the, the, what I read about his sacks, a lot of them were... Like cover sex. Yeah, like things he kind of fell into or whatever. He fell down the guy tripped over. Yeah. But but he's a veteran. He knows the defense. That's important. Um people forget that, um, you know, we have another guy in Barnes who Heard himself last year, but who is playing pretty well and I think he was a two year deal, so I think he'll come back. So it's like, you know, we're missing, we're not seeing like the whole picture. People are, I'm sort of skipping ahead, but people are like freaking out about the Jets.
01 Justin: It's ridiculous. Jake: Well, it's, you as a Jets fan, you're never gonna like Ithic if you want splashy shit. You want Trader Mike back? Get him back. Go get Trader Mike back. But Trader Mike also put you in Capel. Justin: He put us in a terrible position. To he posted a failing every year was like walking a tightrope Jake: It's a can't gonna do that. No, it's it's gonna play it safe every time. He's just not gonna overpay I think it was well, he has a philosophy with the draft. Well, hold on, but Polian said shut the fuck up No, Polian said the other day I'm gonna make you crankier Um, Paulians said in some interview the other day, he's like, listen, the thing about free agency is it's a bunch of B players being paid like eight players. If they were eight players, they'd stay with their teams and the teams would pay them to stay. They're B players. They're being let go because they're bees and people aren't, and that people are going to get scrambled over them and they're going to pay them. Abe. A prayer price. To be fair, not every free agent is a B player. No. The theory is that if they're that good, if they're that critical to your team, you pay them and you keep them. Okay. I mean, not always true though. Okay. I agree. It's not always true, but for the most part, if they're the guy on your team... You work it out and you keep that guy. That's your number one priority, is keeping the number one guy on your team. Or you just can't because he's going to be paid too much money, and then so you're not going to pay him. You're not going to pay revisit coming off an injury to kind of be an average corner for $16 million last year. Okay, so you're just not going to do that. All right, the name that comes to mind for me is Peyton Manning, right? But that was but that was that was coming off an injury that they didn't even know if he could come back to That wasn't that wasn't like a really caught him Justin: Yeah, like they they had the choice to like sign him or not sign him They literally caught him so they had their point ever dad. All right. Give me the next guy Well, we talked about jock community, we talked about pace, we talked about cum, folk. Folk I think was an interesting one. We franchised him, tagged him. We franchised him to not lose him, then we paid him basically what the franchise would pay him, but over three years. But over three years. First time we've ever actually committed to the guy. We've always signed them to one-year deals. Good for him. He actually deserved it. Yeah Jake: Let's hope he keeps it up. Made a lot of kicks, kicked game winners. He missed two. Yeah. As he said to me when I shook his hand and met him. Justin: Yeah, but I think he missed three. No. But anyway. And then the big one was Decker. So here's your B player, Decker, coming in and I think we did a good job. We didn't overpay. I don't think we overpaid Decker. I think that Jake: We did not. No, I'm saying we didn't overpay him, but he is not. The problem with Decker, I like Decker. I think as someone who watches football and watched him play and watched him play in the Super Bowl, because I was there, I will say that I'm excited about him being on the team.
05 Jake: Problem is he's not a number one. He's not a number one guy. You're probably paying him like a number one guy. No, we're not. Well, you are not. Well, then who's our number one guy? Someone yet to be determined? TBD? Justin: Do you mean that we're paying him the most money on the team? Jake: The most number for our wide receiver, yes. Justin: Well, in that case, sure. Whoever is making the most money at that position is your number one. Is that how you're defining number one? Jake: I'm saying if he's your number one, the most important. Justin: I mean, he is our number one, but we're not paying him Calvin Johnson money. No, but we're not even paying him like, you know, other number one guy. Jake: Give me another guy who's we're not paying him like. Justin: Liar Fitzgerald. Jake: OK, stop naming the best two. Well, these are number one wide receivers. Justin: You're saying he's not. We're not paying. We are not paying him number one money. Right. Jake: But I'm saying what he doesn't we doesn't solve for is that we don't have a number one receiver. We now have a very good number two. Right? Who, I guess my issue is, he comes from a team where he came with one of the greatest quarterbacks ever played the game. And it's hard to determine, is he good, and this is what they're saying, and I kind of agree until we see him on another team. Is he great because he was with one of the greatest running quarterbacks ever to play the game who spreads the ball around and had the season breaking, world record breaking season? Or was he great because he's a great wide receiver? Justin: Well, I think he's a good receiver. I don't think he's great. Is he is he Demaris Thomas who is across from him? Jake: No, is he Wes Walker who is across from him? Justin: Well, they're different. I know. I'll look at his 2011 season, OK, his second year in the league. And let's look at his second year in the league. with Tim Tebow as the quarterback versus Stephen Hill's second year in the league with Geno Smith as a quarterback. Fair comparison? Yes. Okay. I don't have Stephen Hill's last year numbers in front of me but I can tell you they're not this good. So Decker's Decker, I'll open them up in a minute. Decker's 2011. With Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow. Not the whole season, but not the whole season book for most. Right. Played in all 16 games. First of all, he's played in all 16 games. He doesn't get hurt. 44 catches on 95 targets, which means the guy throwing in the hole is not very accurate. Right. 612 yards. That's a 14 yards per catch average. Nice. Had eight touchdowns. Yep, it's not a bad year if Tim Tebow is the guy throwing you the ball It's true and you're the number two still cuz the Marius Thomas was on the field I think for you a chunk of that season he was hurt a bit But like if I look up Stephen Hill which I'm gonna do really really really really quickly. Yep
00 Justin: And we look at his second year, which was this year With a rookie Gino Smith throwing on the ball He played in only 12 games played in 11 the year before so he's never played a full season had 24 catches For 342 yards and one touchdown not even close. Yeah, so if you want to look at it like all right second year to second year Like, where do they compare? Jekker's so far beyond this guy. It's like not even funny. Like, his stats in his second year were better than Holmes's stats were this year. Or anything. He's...he's... He's probably the best receiver that we've had since. the first year of homes on the team. Because since then, homes has been garbage. Or if you want to go before that, even, you know, Jake: Kishan. Justin: Oh. No, I mean, you got to give Khatri some props. Like he's he's probably like at that Khatri Kohl's level, like when we had Kohl's and Khatri. Like he's one of those guys. Like is he any better than what those guys were? Probably not. Really better than Kottree? Kottree is pretty good. He's very short-handed. He caught everything he threw at him. Yeah, he had some amazing catches. Still in the league. Like he's a good receiver. So I think he's like around there and with this... Cap and in this NFL where the receivers worth more than the running back as a skill player I think we got him on a fair deal We've got him at the right time in his career coming into his fifth season. That's a really good time to grab a receiver Seasoned veteran doesn't miss games got good hands has had big seasons Has played in a Super Bowl what's there's not not to like there Has the wife as a hot wife. I mean, yeah, he's got everything Jake: No, it's reality TV. She's got it. Yeah, I think that's where the downside source Justin: I is he doing this because I'm the Jets couldn't whatever I don't care why he came to the Jets He's on the Jets and the reality show didn't Impact Jake: Is he a wasted tool with the with Gino Smith throwing the ball kind of stupid shit is that how that's what every catch 22 Justin: Situation like a wasted tool. So what are you gonna like not get any weapons and just be like, right? No weapons again this year Well, why should we have any if we have no quarterback fuck it like that's just so why yeah Maybe the weapons make the quarterback better in some situations like it's not always a You know a Tom Brady situation where he makes everybody around him better or a Peyton Manning situation and as he made her an end Is he did made he made those guys great like he makes no names into Look at Tom Brady doesn't have weapons, now maybe a little bit better, but still, they don't, you know, they don't...
04 Justin: You know, you made Wes Walker into what he became, like, Julian Edelman. He's doing the same thing with that guy at a hundred-something catches last year. So at some point you got to just be like, all right, we're gonna roll out Decker, Curly... Stephen Hill Jake: They were talking to cutting him, but I don't know why you cut him because it's like he's still under his rookie contract Justin: I'm sure we have a couple other receivers still under contract and I imagine we're gonna draft one Like it's existing is gonna be the draft. He's gonna try and build through the draft He's got like 10 or 12 picks. That's a lot of guys to bring in to the team. And of those 10 or 12, if you get four players out of it, frickin awesome. Jake: All right, so let's get to the elephantitis in the room, which is that a lot of the feedback from the internet, the blogs, the sports media, talking heads, the Twitters is that Idzik you know, that he's missing on people that, you know, that Revus comes and goes and we can't get him that DRC comes and goes and we can't get him that someone else that sort of they didn't that he hasn't been able to pull the trigger on the guys when we're in set where we have tons of cap space. And other than Decker and Decker's kind of mean, three of these guys are own guys. One of these guys is on your own, right? And then Decker is sort of the big splash player. Um, so he's getting kind of you know fans are getting a little bit fans are rational. That's right. We are Justin: Did we not sign the best receiver on the market? Give me the list Sanders Decker Decker's take him Nick's next heat James Jones Steve Smith Yeah, out of that, he's the best group. Did we not sign the best skill position, wide receiver on the free agent market? Yeah, I would say we did. Okay, so that's good. Did we not shore up? position at right tackle and actually save some money there fine that's that's a flip of the coin sure so Just because he has the cap space doesn't mean he has to spend the cap space Jake: Well, I also don't want them spending like you know like being the Raiders something being ninety thousand ninety million other caps base Justin: I'm going to season like that who from So if you look from last year's eight and eight team Moving forward to this year, right? Is there anyone who we've lost that you say? Oh shit. How are we gonna? Jake: Do this without that guy? No, cuz I think basically our team last year was kind of crappy and we kind of put together an 8-8 season Justin: Beside ourselves so inside and we added the best receiver on the market excellence to an a sputtering offense Should make it better.
01 Justin: Should be an upgrade. Second year of quarterback should be better. Should be. That's a... Should be. That's becoming a new myth. But whatever. Jake: It's also the sophomore year slump. So whatever. Justin: It could be worse. Could be. But should be better in the second year. Yep. And I think... The second and third week of free agency is where you actually get the bang for your buck. Alright, so this is where you fill the roster with your teams. Jake: Oh, so the other guy was the other corner from Tennessee. Justin: Altar on Vernor? Jake: Yes, so that was another miss. Because again, we're in a corner market, we lose crow, right? We haven't, yeah, we cut them. We cut them. Could re-sign them. Could re-sign them, but... Unless he comes back Supercrow. Justin: But no one else has signed the guy. , I remember they did draft Demillan in the top 10 last year. I agree. They're expecting him to be a number one corner, right? Like you don't draft a corner top 10 for him to just be like another starter. Jake: But he started... you I think if he had come in and had the Dorell Rivas rookie season, we'd be like, oh, we're set. But he came in, he had pretty much a terrible season up until the last three games where he finished well, where he kind of got his head around him and he kind of got, ooh, I know what he's doing. He made some good places, made some interceptions, whatever. Justin: Richard Sherman wasn't Richard Sherman in his rookie season. Jake: If I came in as an offensive coordinator going up against the Jets, I would throw all day long at Milner until... Until he proves to me that he can and the last month of the season he did Justin: Because they they moved him on to the better guys Yeah, they said well cuz crow couldn't flip up with them. They flipped them and he proved himself Toasted but in his shouldn't he get better like the theory is that you You draft guys, and you coach them up, and they get better. It's not like they are as good as they're ever going to be in the first year. I'm all good. So if you think about it, we had like five starters from last year's draft. We drafted five starting players. Jake: Right. The opposite side of that, the pessimist side, is to say… Just because you had no fucking time on your team. Justin: That's fine, but if you keep building through the draft that way, then you're gonna eventually get to where you need to be. Jake: But if I started a team today with zero players and drafted 12 players, I'd have 12 starters. That doesn't mean I did well, that just means I had zero talent. Justin: No, but if you start where we are now, and continue to build through the draft. Then get that base. That's when you go grab the finishing pieces You go grab a lot of the things are going now. That's what the Broncos are doing paths Broncos Jake: They're drafting I finish ions, but you don't think so. Whatever Justin: All right. So they stole Dominic Rodgers Cromartie from us who got completely overpaid He didn't get that much. He got overpaid. He got a five-year deal like seven million per something like that like that's The guy sucked for years Like he he had one decent season with with the Broncos who by the way gave up
03 Justin: Oh, I don't know 40 something points in the Super Bowl The Broncos defense wasn't winning any games folks. They gave up 50 to Tony Romo You think that was Tony Romo thrown for $500 not on Dominic Rodgers camarti. Did you say dollars? Sorry I mean really like this guy's like some superstar like oh no All right, we lost out to the Giants on some scrub who played for two years for the Eagles about terrible about Rivas That bothered me. Jake: So does it bother you, like give Give me a percentage, the bothering. How much the percentages that we didn't get him and how much is that he did, that he went to the paths. Justin: It bothered me more than we didn't get him. I really wanted him. Jake: Because it was kind of my like dream. I dreamed the last year and I was like I wanted him back. Justin: I wanted him back. Well guess what? He's going to be out back next year. I know. He'll get him again. He's a very sophisticated and smart businessman. He technically signed a two year. $32 million dollar deal shit that if they have him on their roster next year he counts for 25. Well, this is this is what this deal Jake: When this deal when this deal get caught cut to the bucks You know when we looked at the deal and we're not dealmeisters and we're not good at this and I don't I'm not this is Not what I do for my living You know It was like it's just it was like whatever years of 16 million dollars a year and in a year you basically cut them and you're Not gonna pay them 16 million dollars and 16 million dollars It's a lot of money for a corner. It's a shit ton. They paid them $16 million last year. Justin: It's quarterback money. Jake: It's more than quarterback. Tom Brady doesn't make that. This year, Revas will be making, it's my sign this year, I'm gonna hold up. Hey Tom, Revas is making more money than you are. Again. Justin: Well Tom did that for this very purpose. I mean, although he didn't do it, I think Tom Brady's deal is structured and I've read about this. Like he... gave the Pats a break up until this year. It's Wilfork? That's right. Jesus. How much more has he got in the tank? He's got a year or two in the tank. I want him, I want a one year, four million dollars. Jenkins was awesome his first year. He signed him for that one year. Jake: And he was great. Then the second year he got hurt like first game. Justin: Can you imagine like, like Ellis is not very good. Snacks is nice. He's a good player. He's not Vince Wilford. No, Vince is just a Wilford in the middle of first and second down and Jake: Nobody's running out. People don't run out. No, after he went out people just started running the shit out of them Justin: They haven't solved for that. I want that. I wanted because he was beloved Jake: Oh it's you mean just as a guy.
01 Justin: We're going to wear it off. and bring in Vince Wilford. Jake: And we can all go get Jett's Wilford jersey. Justin: I wouldn't get the jersey, but I would definitely root for him on the Jett. I would like to see him stuff. Jake: So where are you with Reeva at this point? You want him to fucking- fail and get hurt? Yeah. All right. Just wanna make sure. Justin: You know what I really want? I don't want him to fail and get hurt. I want Tom Brady to get hurt and have the team fail. and just have the patch just be, have-, have him play again on a terrible team. Because he went, sure he. And he got relenting. 16. Because that was important to him. By the way. But he also went to a team where he can absolutely win a Super Bowl. Right. Because I mean, you can't say, oh, he went for the money grab because he did go to New England and you can. Well, he did both. He got the money. He got the best of both worlds for him. I really wanted him back. I shouldn't have fallen for it. It was dumb. I fell for it. Jake: So the rumor is that the Jets, well, of course, you know, Rex wanted him back, but that we never really talked about it. Like that they never really kind of, they never really went for him, never officially went for him. They made a call and were like, yeah, not that price. Justin: Because Izzik is not going to do that. This is where you make the money as a GM. Not spending it. No now like week two and three and four and leading into the draft is How you build the team like with these guys, guys, who you put in place? Like look we're are we gonna sign to Marcus where why no no we're gonna sign Was a corner we missed on Altar on burner Keep to leave if we wanted him. I don't think we wanted him in the locker room he's he's a mess and Revas who we again didn't want I don't think I don't think wanted any part of dealing with I actually I think that went above It's like and that went what he said don't even think about it not not again fucking Jake: Well, he's just he's not an idiot. He just he's just a very yeah, I don't want to deal with him again I mean he he held up twice on us. I mean, it's not like he doesn't do this So well, so let's talk about the other big big moves Broncos made some basically the paths in the Broncos and I say the Giants but you don't think so are going insane Justin: I don't think so Jake: Who got the pats? What did the pats pick up? Justin: Well they re-signed Iddelman Okay. Okay, so then they went out and got Revus. Yep. They went out and they got um, the receiver from Carolina. And they didn't like- Yeah, Lafell. It's not like they broke the bank and went crazy and got like anyone but Revus. It was Revus. Like, that's a big deal. Like you just got Dorell Reavis, that's a big thing. So that's really like what they did. I can't really think of like anything else that they did. I mean, they cut a couple of linebackers. Oh, and Brandon Browner. But again, who knows how good he really is now at this point.
00 Justin: Well, he's also got to sit out for the first four games. It's the first four games. He's on like the third strike policy. The guy's constantly being suspended for stuff and he's pretty old. He's actually like 31. Oh, really is he? Yeah, cuz he didn't he didn't play in the nfl right away. He played in the cfl But that's formidable reavis and browner. That's that's gonna be hard to throw on the pack. You're gonna just have to run over them and like. Going out and getting you know where and going out and getting TJ Ward and going out and getting who was the linebacker they signed Shit I forgot and they signed like top tier guys. I think they overpaid for some of them I mean, they were paid of course, but I don't how do they have the money and understand it? I don't even get how teams have money to even spend That's the part I don't understand. Jake: So here's the top 10, and we'll close up this show, but here's the top 10 according to... Free agents? Yeah, they're still left on... Justin: Oh, still left? Jared Allen's got to be at the top, right? Jake: He's third. Uh, Alex Mack, center. Justin: Yeah, but he's got a transition tag on him, I think. Jake: Henry Milton, defensive tackle. I think he was signed today, I think. Was he? Okay. Jared Allen, defensive end. Justin: But we don't have any use for that. Jake: Jeremy Finley, tight end. Your Michael Finley. Justin: I would take a flyer on him. He's a one year deal to me because of the neck injury. But he's a guy who I'd take a flyer on as like a second tight end. Mike Vick, quarterback. That's a guy who's on the radar as a... Second third week signing under the under the sort of under the radar gonna get less money But a one-year two million dollars one year three million dollars Whatever Macau got for the box and hope you like I want that. It was like two years ten million Antonio Camardi cornerback Jake: Yeah, we'll probably sign him back. Really? I think so Shawn Phillips Justin: Defense we're gonna let him get whatever deal he can find from whoever and we'll match it We'll just say we'll give you like ten dollars ten dollars Don't need him. Jake: No Sean Marino running back. Justin: Oh, he's breaking down. Jake: He didn't break down last season but he always used a Pat Simms defensive tackle. Don't need a tackle. And Donald Penn offensive tackle from the Buccaneers. Don't need a tackle. So you're on the... Justin: You know who I would sign as a quarterback if I... I would like to actually have Mike Vick. I know you don't like him, but he knows the offense and he can he can really push. Do you know if he was ended up starting, I'd be perfectly happy with that. Yeah, I think he's he can start. He could still play.
01 Justin: I would fall back on Ryan Fitzpatrick. and And he's not with the Titans anymore. They, they got rid of him. So I'd be happy with either of those guys, but they do need to sign a quarterback. Jake: Worst signing of the free agency. Justin: It's easy. The worst? Yep. It's easy? It's easy. Did Albert Hainsworth get signed again? He did. $100 million. It was like one of the first or two, Jake: it was a quarterback. Justin: Josh McCown? Jake: It's like the second one and he went to San Francisco. Justin: Brandon Weedon? Jake: Wasn't Weedon, it was the other guy. It was the uh Now I'm forgetting San Francisco. What was his name? I was hoping you'd remember the name. No San Francisco signed two quarterbacks They signed, was it Whedon? No, they signed someone else. He's just so terrible. From... Oh, I don't know. God, I'm flaky on the name. You're killing this. Oh, right, alright. Justin: You're like the worst one, da da da. San Francisco. Jake: San Fran, 49ers, free agent, free agent signings. Come on, man. How dare you? I know, but I thought you'd get it and then I thought I'd know. I didn't. I didn't. I didn't. I'm gonna be doing I know it's terrible all right well now I can't figure it out But anyway they paid him like a lot of money. We're like this guy's terrible. Why are you yeah? Oh bling gabbard bling gabbard terrible Terrible terrible blink. I'm not that's it. That's why so terrible Johnny hardbock turn anyone into good Justin: But this is the thing with, they're saying that he's, Jake: they're just saying that he's terrible. That they hate him and the front office hates him and it's like, what's going on with him? Like he's been so successful yet they just wanna, you know, yeah. All right, well we'll wrap it up there. So, you know, depending on. Justin: I think it's doing a fine job fine and when we come back two weeks Jake: Give me a grade right now. Give me an interim grade the middle of thesis is no first quarter. This is first quarter grade Incomplete no, give me a great complete after great on what you have in front of you be be all right Justin: Two weeks from now. We're gonna come back and we're gonna see what he's done So what do you so let's get some predictions on the table or back backup quarterback one more weapon on the offense Jake: Could be anybody There Justin: Yeah, but it'll be like, you know, I'm lower level like it's not gonna be splat It's just gonna be a guy right and you know The team that just won the Super Bowl had guys as wide receivers.
03 Jake: Right, and they had a great guy at quarterback. Justin: But, yeah, we'll see. Jake: Yeah, the Michael Vick thing is really just a personality. Justin: We'll have a backup quarterback, because we're not going into the season with Gino and Matt Simms. No, please no. And a guy in the draft. It's not. And such as unless for some reason they come to some sort of if I'm mark Sanchez, I'm not saying I'm not I'm not gonna say oh, yeah sure cut my salary in half. I'm gonna go try and Jake: He he he oh like 13 minute, I'm gonna give him like Justin: He's not gonna do he's not gonna do that They're gonna have to cut him right so it won't be him They'll have to go get but the irony of it is as soon as they cut him and he hits the market He'll be the best free agent quarterback on the market. Jake: Who would rather have Mark Sanchez than Mike Vick? Justin: At this point in their careers, if I'm a team that needs to sign a quarterback and... Jake: For a future or for a backup? Justin: Well, thinking like if I needed to play this guy, I think I'd rather have Sanchez. No. I just can't see that. Jake: Even with my green colored glasses on, I'm not gonna say Sanchez over Vick. Justin: It really depends on the team. That's what I'm saying. Jake: If you're like a rater, if you're like a one year stopgap or like we could do something with this Rater is like Alex Smith 2.0 or is it like really depends on who your starter Justin: is like if you're if you're I don't know. Raiders Raiders. Well if you're the Raiders I I'm they're so fucked up who knows I mean if they're building their off they don't have a quarterback. I think I'd rather have Sanchez if I was the Raiders. Jake: Just because there's maybe some upside there. Still left, there's something left in the tank. Justin: Yeah, if I'm the Raiders, but if I'm like the Panthers, right? I don't have a backup quarterback. I want Mike Vick because he plays a similar style to my starter. Right. Or if I'm like Seattle or if I'm the Niners or if I'm the Redskins. Right. I want a more I want a guy who's more in the mode of my starter but if my starting quarterback Jake: that's why Michael Vick fits the jets better than Sanchez vicks the debts it because Mike Vick is more in the mode Justin: more I mean also I think Vick also looks at Jake: would look at Geno's like I'll help you out little dude right versus Sanchez you fucked up my life Justin: relationship with with morning way you know when Vic came back and was welcome back and So he came back into the league as and wasn't like, you know, scorned. It was with morning leg, right? He had his best season under morning leg. Yeah. So, you'd like to think that he knows that offense. Jake: But then I think the problem with that is he becomes, is he a starter or is he a backup? He's competing. A competing. Justin: He's competing, which is what we want. That is the organizational mantra. That is what we do. We compete for jobs. Nobody gets the job.
00 Justin: Gino is not the starter. Ask them. Ask kids. Ask Rex. They will not say he's the starter. There's no one to compete with him, but he's not the starter. Jake: Because they might get someone to compete with him. That's. But now you rather not go out and just grab one Justin: I mean this draft has a lot of quarterbacks in it. No way. Why am I drafting a guy to compete with him? Jake: I don't want that. I just dropped this guy in the second round. So what? Draft another one. No way. I can keep doing it. Why would I do that? Because one of them, it's like Gold Rush. You'll find the big nugget. No. Big nugget mine. That doesn't make any sense. Justin: Okay. I wouldn't just draft another guy. I want a veteran to be there so that if he does win the... Like David Garard to really compete with him. No, so I actually talked to the guy and mentor him a little bit Jake: But then that says but if you do that then that saying that you know Smith is the guy Justin: I go Vic is not that guy Right go Vic can compete with Gino and and to her look back and might even look better than he will What did he do last year with with with? With what's always full? No, not fully Nick Foles. Foles. What did he do? He mentored him at the end of the season. He took that and did a great job with it. That's what I look at. I think he... Wow, look, he competed for the job. He lost it and then he really did a great job. Didn't he use this like semi-duty injury? Like he was giving that job back and then Foles just took it from him. They were both healthy falls through like six to get crump Jake: Don't know. I just I wish I could get my- the, and. and and I- a I They're all shitheads. Oh, they're all shitheads. The name of this podcast. Alright, with that, from one shithead to another, we'll be back whenever we want to. Because we're shitheads. Before the draft. We'll be back, oh, we'll be back way before the draft. We have to do a draft. Oh, when is the draft? Oh, right, it's right before your freaking wedding. So you better be ready. Don't like get all wedding-y on me and not be ready for the draft. Start studying now. Mark Mark easily. Justin: I know who he is. I've watched him play football you haven't well I've watched his tape Meaning his highlight reel. I've like watched him playing real game. Oh in real games. You don't know anything You just my name. I know he's like that's right. You're like you're like a combine guy He ran a four five two four. I didn't watch end the combine this year. I usually watch the hell You know is like numbers he Jake: Jump 40 inches in a vertical he could bench press his 44 times box blah blah blah was amazing Justin: He went spooosh right there on the field there jets drafting offense first round Jake: Watch us pick a corner or corner Justin: Fucking corner or defensive lineman no I'm a lie. Oh, he signed leg a doosable. Oh, yeah There you go the dues all right back Jake: Alright, Jake and Justin saying, uh, the dudes are out and as always, go Jets!
26 Jake: Thank you.
