09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away from me! Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast, the longest running New York Jets podcast ever. Joining me the 212th time, that's many times. Is the king of rants off air that should never be on air? That was a bad one. Justin. How is ace? If only people could hear what I just said. Santes less jets. I'm so sad. All right. I'm sad. My Sancho. So we, I know. My Sancho. My Binky. Your little buddy. First time in like five years we've done a podcast and I'm not, and I'm not, and I'm not, and I, and I, and playing I want to have the conversation about. the football side. So I have two conversations about Vic. Vic the person. This is like one-sided conversations or do I get to participate in any way at all? You get to participate. Or are you just talking to the microphone and then I can just leave and come back in five minutes? Well whatever. Is I mean isn't the podcast much better when you do that anyway? Speaking, speaking of which get ready for the next year in football league by getting your I don't know what you're supposed to say and it'll be soon. Start soon. Thanks. So here's, here's, cause I've had a lot of people feeling, I listened to, so here's, I listened to ESPN's, uh, fantasy focus podcast. So Nate Ravitz is a big Jets fan and he literally said, he said on air, he's like, if Vic starts,
01 Jake: I can't be a fan of the Jets. So I was sitting there, I was running in the gym and I was like, you know what, like, how do I feel about it? I mean, end. I've owned dogs all my life. I thought what he did was terrible. I've actually read excerpts of his admonishment, like the thing he admitted to doing, and it's terrible terrible, terrible stuff. But I also believe in people doing their time, going to jail, and second chances. So... I'm just gonna say I'm a fan of the New York Jets. I'm not a fan of individual players, right? And if you have to, if you're gonna, you know, you're gonna get down to the nitty gritty on something, I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna be a fan of that team because of that player. Just like when Tebow came on, I'm not really great with, I'm not, wasn't in line with Tebow's political feelings, right? We've had other players on the team that I would say I wasn't in line with their off the field stuff, right? I have to say I'm a fan of the team and I want the team to win. And I asked myself today, I'm going to ask you the question, although I think you're much more on one side of this than I am. I'm way on the... Right. Which was that... Okay, so then I asked myself, I said, what would you feel? What would it feel like if in Arizona next January, February... Michael Vick throws the winning touchdown and nearchits win the Super Bowl be the greatest day of my life Would you give a crap flying crap and part of me says No, I mean, I'm I'm sorry. I argue the entire you show like that means nothing This is the greatest day of my life All right, so it's a 1% of me is is so so the so I'm so your little tiny penis is basically saying It's like 75% now Yes, all right. Go ahead. He's basically like, oh, we just won the Super Bowl. But this guy, he threw the touchdown. Oh, so what's your feelings on him? I just not the player, the person. He's another football player to me. I really don't. I don't see color. I don't see race. I don't see this. I don't see this. People tell me white because they can see me. Yeah, I don't see it. Here's the thing. The guy did horrible things. Everyone agrees. No one in their right mind is gonna be like, what he did wasn't that bad. That's like, you know, ridiculous. But he did go away, right? He had to go to jail. He served his time. He was banned from the league. He has since been mentored by very respectable people within league circles. Tony dungeon to to really name the guy. Right. And by all accounts, he's a changed guy. Like you you sort of. Saw it last year with the Eagles where you know you Thought that this guy was gonna react one way when he his job and in reality he
01 Jake: Acted a whole other way. He was like he embraced it. He's like team. I'm gonna mentor this young guy. I'm a veteran now I've played, I've seen, I've experienced. He's just a different person. So, like, you know, everyone does stupid shit when they're younger. And if you do really stupid shit, you get really punished, which is what happened to him. And I totally like I get it like, you know, I own pet. I have dogs in the family. I have I love dogs. It's just like, like. I don't know the guy to be like, you asshole. I don't know what's in his head. All I know is he's wearing my team's jersey. He's gonna compete for a starting job. He knows the offense. It was the perfect fit. He's the perfect like. what you saw last year, what he did last year. I don't want to go to the football thing. I want to. But that's what he is. He's a person. I understand. I can't separate two. If he was a dickhead last year in a diva, I would say this is not good. It's not going to work. Well, there's a difference between being a diva and again, it's why I want to have the conversation. There's a difference between diva and being a... torture of animals, right? Yeah, so don't think that's in him anymore. There's there's I mean, we just got rid of a diva Right. We just got rid of you know, San Antonio Holmes, which for all accounts of purposes while he was on our team We rooted for him. What's up, homes? What a guy But his on the field stuff was shitty like we hate he misbehaved he sat out he was he was a diva right on the field and you know, in some ways glad to have him gone as the person because I never liked some of his actions. So I'm just saying from the Michael Vick, the person, before we get to Michael Vick, the player, a a human being who walks the planet who has a record who has been to jail for torturing animals, I think there's a lot of people who are trying to get over that and it's hard for them to get over it. So I think that's why I'm having the conversation. But what I'd like to say is Like I am going to get over it, right. Right? It is not my favorite thing in the world I don't like what he did But if you're trying to get over as well, if you're a listener to the podcast You should go read what some of the other institutions like PETA, the Society of the United States, have written about him and you'll read their statements because again, I'm not a judge of who he is, I don't know, I've never met the guy.
17 Jake: But like I then look to the organizations whose missions are I don't know whether he has paid his dues because again, you know the Humane Society of United States is an organization to protect animals. read them. Yes, I'm looking out for them. What do they say? They basically all say, PETA's and this one, they both say he has since going to jail and for what he served, he has been a good member of society in terms of animals. He has tried to raise awareness. He has done the things. He's done everything right. Whether inside he's changed as a human being... I don't know, but we're saying that these organizations are sort of on the, he's okay. And that he is helping us now try to raise awareness. And to me that's part of what makes someone better is that they take something that's terrible and they turn it into something that's to try to help, right? Do you know who's the huge dog lover? Who? Eric Decker. Do you know he has an organization called like Deckers Dogs. That like raises awareness for... His wife's pretty good looking so. Yeah it's like uhh... It's like umm... You just got that? Nice. He's got an organization called Deckers Dogs that raises money to help rescue dogs. Awesome. Awesome. So anyway, but what I'm gonna say is, and I'm gonna try to keep this promise, I'm making it on a podcast, so I don't give a shit. But I'm gonna try to make this, I'm goin' to say that I don't, from now on, from now that I've had my say about him as a person, that's it. I'm done with the Mike Vick as a... I'm glad you're done, because I never cared. Well... Do you have lesser feelings? You're a lesser feeling individual. No, I just don't think it's relevant in the conversation about it. It's irrelevant to the near-jets who have in the past hired people who have been polarizing individuals. Well now you're talking about the football part. Well, but his... But wait, now you're... Yes, so that's where you told me not to go before. Well, I'm now going there. And the other part... I'm now going there. Has nothing to... That's why I said the other part never bothered me, because it... It doesn't it doesn't matter what does matter. Well, it doesn't because you just tried to say it does because of this, which is where you wouldn't let me go. OK, so now let's go model citizen in Philly from a football move. Let's let's go from let's go from let's get off the train. And let's go for my football move. You get off your train. What do you think? Get on my private jet. What do you think about the football move? It's a good football move. It's a perfect fit. A, he knows the system better than Gino, I'm sure. Oh, definitely. Played in it for years. Two, they have similar styles. Don't do A and two. That just sounds stupid. Try doing B after A. F. fucking for fuck you side-rounds the dick Roman numeral for Roman numeral dose
08 Jake: he he's he's he's a lefty he's not really a lefty Gino but they have a very similar style and the fact that they use their legs and their arms Um, to win games, um, obviously Vic is like one of the most, if not the most prolific running quarterback to ever play football. So they're not quite in the same stratosphere in that way, but we saw Gino win six touchdowns, like he scored, I think it was five or six touchdowns. That's for quite a few yards in the last month of the season, when they started to tell them, look, Dude, you can run like right like take off instead of taking a run and the other part is like Well, I was starting to say before which is he's at the right point in his career where he can still push and he could still Maybe even win the starting job. Maybe He's good enough to do that, but he's also seasoned as a veteran and lived through last year of being the mentor to a young up and comer. And knowing being in that locker room, being in that classroom and that meeting room, like the quarterbacks meeting room with Gino and Marty, that can only help. having him there. I don't see a downside in this entire thing. I totally agree. He's got the perfect pedestry. Well that's the one. The only thing that's the downside is the one year because it is... The only way that that comes back to bite you in the ass is if he plays fucking awesome. Right. And I'll be happy with that too. Okay. So let's... So here's some numbers. Two year, $10 million deal. Now I know all the quarterbacks. Two year, $10 million deal. We got the best deal on all of them. This is the thing that I think people should look at. Go look at the free agency quarterbacks for this year. And it's, here's the top of the list. Josh McGown, Matt Castle, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden, I mean, Kellen Clemens. I mean David Garard has been signed, Curtis Painter, Charlie Whitehurst, I mean there is- Don't forget Marc Sanchez. Well, Marc Sanchez is not signed by anybody, but this is a list of some of the worst quarterbacks in the league. If you look at the top there, Michael Vick stands out and is like, oh shit, and he was paid the same money as McCown. Yeah. As he's paying the same money as Matt Castle. Matt fucking Castle. I get it. So like if you take away the polarizing thing, but-
09 Jake: as a from everything else. Definitely. He's my prediction is also what I want to happen. Yeah, me too. Well, so you want Gino to outplay Vic in the preseason I want him to play I Want him to outplay him or play even like like I don't want him to like look like You know what? we saw Gino look like in the very beginning of the season and through them really through the middle where he really played terribly and Vic to look like adequate and good because Vic is going to do things that we haven't seen a quarterback do. He's not in the New York Jets in our uniform. He's going to make some whoa plays in the preseason with his legs that are going to make you feel like, holy fuck, how is this guy not starting? Especially if he's in there with the starters and the starting offensive line like that third third or fourth game where if he's in there with the starting a line and They run some designed like like trickery running type of plays I think whoa, we can really build around that we could be one of the better running teams in the league So Gina is gonna have to look good in the preseason I'm hoping that a second year with a full training camp with this guy you know competing against him lights a fire keep that momentum going from the end of the season and I'm hoping that he does win the starting job with that said I think he needs a four week leash but without any like right Gino needs a four week yeah four weeks but that's without like you know week after week being like oh should this guy start or not no four weeks even if they go home for like four weeks he needs to be the starter for the first four weeks and then If you're if he's looking good, if he's progressing, if he's getting better, if if if they're two and two, three and one, even one and three with like a bad like, shouldn't have lost this game, bad luck loss, right? He should keep going. But I think he needs to have a little bit of a cushion there where he's actually named the starter. Right, which they never do like they haven't done like they've never named him the starting quarterback ever The only way to do this is obviously to have them both compete in training camp having both compete in preseason And then the fourth quarter of the third Game just put in Vic the guy who's winning we got a bit put throwing Vic behind a bunch of got you and I as offensive lineman, yep Maybe no one a running back and let him get killed. Right. Or have his shoulders separated. Well, that's what I'm saying. And then he's out for the season.
00 Jake: Yeah. There's there is this. I mean, I know it gets into this, you know, is the starter. I don't think honestly, looking at my Smith's production last year, there's nothing that he did last year that you say, yep, that's our guy. So I don't feel like we owe him anything other than competition. He didn't. do anything, an eight and eight season, he threw 10 times more picks than, than touchdowns. There's nothing in it that you go, yes, he's the guy. Again, second round pick. And we better figure it out. It gets, you know, it's the thing I feel like we lost last year, we, we lost in the season because we didn't figure out whether he was the guy. Well, the only problem with last year, if we figured out if he was the guy or not was that there was no one else to turn to anyway. Were you really just gonna turn to Matt Simms? I think he was really? Bitch twice! But it wasn't like you were gonna hand the keys to Matt Simms. No! What really fucked them up last year was that Sanchez got hurt in the stupidest of stupid moves. Right. Because ultimately they could have still started Gino. Even though Sanchez won the job. Right. He really did. They could have started Gino and he could have went what do we start two into three and two ever and he could have kept And when he had that that game in Tennessee or when he started falling apart And we lost like three or four games in a row and it was like on his shoulders, right? Because said okay Sit down young young man, right? We're gonna put a veteran in here and he's taken the hook before. Because we're still in contention. And if we lose with him, fine. Right. He's lived through butt fumbles. He'll deal with it. We don't want you to deal with this shit. To his credit, he turned it around, which is great. He got to play through that, but he had to. There was no choice. You weren't starting Matt's sins. It wasn't happening. That's a pipe dream. That's stupidity. I think that's what about this signing, which is. Interesting. You have a character. If there's that game that we're losing and like three interceptions in the first half and it's like this guy's just off today. He's a rookie, he's off for a second year, he's off. Something wrong with Gino. No Mr. Smith. Whatever. You could throw in Michael Vick. Win that game like Matt Sims couldn't come in and win games cuz he's just not any better There's a mop-up guy, but I feel like he came in and maybe played decent once or twice The same thing happened like Greg McRae Remember he came in like Sanchez was having that terrible game to go against Arizona. He came in We won like 7-3 or something stupid And it was like, all right, so next week we're going to start Macaro. And they got sacked like 17 times. Yeah, because he sucked. And now he's retired at 25. Right. So I think that's what's interesting. Now, the one-year thing, again, as a jet, I want Geno Smith to win the job and do great and go to the playoffs. But as a realist, the best quarterback on our team right now is Michael Vick. I don't think there's any, there's no question about that. And it's not an even race because the best quarterback going into training camp is Michael Vick. And the best quarterback in week one is Michael Vick. Sorry, that's the truth.
00 Jake: Now there's what we want to happen, right? We want, you know, to do better. And we want him to do, you know, to show whatever. But there's no evaluation. If you look at the two players, I mean... There's I don't think there'll be any number that'll come out of the preseason that'll say oh, yeah Victed worse than Tino. I just can't imagine it Well, the only way that that happens is if he doesn't get to play with the starters Yeah, I just well. No, I mean if he doesn't get a play he doesn't get to play with this Well, you can look at last year's race And what hurt Gino in that race was that he got hurt and he couldn't play in one of the games. Is that the race that Mark Sanchez threw a pick six the first pass of the first preseason game? And he still won. He still won. He was still terrible. Because... well he wasn't that bad. He really wasn't. He did the one thing that we like all- Please don't do that one thing. He got it out of the way early. Now he threw many more picks. in the preseason. But anyway, I don't think there are many. I don't think there are many more. Many is the word. You're not going to be able to find preseason statistics. What? I don't think you'll be able to. You just keep talking and I'll find it. Well, it all depends on who gets to play with who. And again, you know, Mike Vick might come in and be like, this is the guy. Gino needs to sit and watch. And in all reality, He's gonna get hurt if he's the starter anyway. So it's like, alright Gino, you get some time to watch from the sideline, learn the offense, watch this guy run the offense, and we're gonna run the same offense when you're in the game, when he gets hurt, but we're gonna run it the other way because you're a righty and he's a lefty. And that's it. That's it. You're not going to find these preseason statistics. I'm sitting looking at them, so shut the fuck up. Let's see. Preseason 2013. Detroit Jacksonville New York Giants in Philadelphia. Sound familiar? How do you do? Okay. So he threw... I'm just looking for the interception line. He threw two interceptions. in the One and a half two and a half games he played. What'd he throw? What'd he do? Just out of curiosity So ten for thirteen seventy six in the first game Okay, no, no, sorry. Yeah ten for thirteen two hundred twenty five yards one touchdown one interception Not anything Next game that doesn't sound like a bad half of football or quarter and a half 13 for 23 169 one intercept one one touchdown one reception you got sacked Third game five or six. This is the one like a completion percentage on all this 76 56 and then 83 relent before he went out his total for the preseason was was 66% actually had the best game two touchdowns two interceptions two sacks that's like a game one fumble loss yeah that's what he is it's kind yeah i mean actually better than what he you know really well that's a high completion percentage for him i don't think he was i don't know 60s i remember looking last year and being like he's one but it's not a
03 Jake: Decisive win there was no decisive. Well, you know played so bad in that Giants game Yeah, he played like, you know, he played like three picks in the first half or something. Yeah So again, I just don't know how Michael Vicks gonna come in and be worse than that be worse than he probably won't he's gonna Be reinvigorated. He's gonna be reunited with the guy who he played his best football under He might end up starting the season. I just feel like the guy is Gino But the other thing is Michael Vick is perennially hurt He hasn't finished that five minutes ago when you weren't listening because you were looking for that's right He's in so even if he starts I feel like the worst cases he starts and then Gino Why don't you repeat all my words? All right? Not that guy that's not that's just keep repeating. I'm sorry. I was looking for stats. Well, that's what you said keep talking I was talking but you clearly weren't listening. Oh, no, I'm listening and looking just I don't even want people to listen to you ever they should just turn it off when you anyway button Let's move on. All right, sort of other stuff. Crema art is gone. Did not happen what we thought would happen Which either is one of two things Either he really didn't want to come back and he didn't give us a chance or we don't think he's any good anymore. We think he's shot. His injury is real and not going to get better and what we saw last year was what he is. And if what we saw last year is what he is... then they're right to not want him back. If what we saw last year was an aberration because he was really hurt and he's going to be healthy. Then I kind of feel like we fucked this one up. Well, this is where is it is getting all the getting all the media bullshit right now, which is that. Yeah, OK, I mean, I think out of, you know, right now for agency, not done yet, but. You know, Vic and Decker A's, because that was the two best players for the two positions that we really needed. No doubt, right? Still no doubt. But the other big glaring issue, there were many guys who came and went who we didn't sign. We didn't sell Revus, we didn't sign. But Revus never came and went. He didn't come down. No, we put in, we said no interest. We had no interest. No interest. Right, but... Fair enough. Okay, but that means it's the point is he didn't fill the corner spot with the free agency with all this tons of money, the most money out there. We still have not filled one of the big glaring holes. So we lost a starter at corner. Yep. Who was one of the worst corners in the league last year. Yep. Like statistically proven. Like if you go to like that pro football focus, whatever he was like at the bottom of the heap so And the defense was still like 11th overall or something like that You've got a first round pick top 10 pick coming into a second year who looked better in the second half than he did
00 Jake: In the first half by far who did not have an offseason because he was injured. So didn't even play in like preseason games. So by all accounts, he should be better this year. I'm making I'm making a I'm trying to defend the cornerback position here. We have another first round pick in Kyle Wilson, who plays the nickel and he plays it pretty well. He doesn't play outside, though. He's not very good out there. And then we signed stop guys that we've had on the roster from years past. like Darren Wall and like else Langster or whatever. And I feel like there's a guy out there that's going to sign. There's always like there's also always like a rookie or free agent guy or some dude who ends up playing fairly well at cornerback for a lot of players, for a lot of teams. It's not going to be like, you know, off of this list of free agents. It's going to be a guy that maybe gets cut late. like a training camp from another team or a free agent like in the draft. Like you draft a guy or even like a guy after the draft that you find. Here's the guys left. Give me a list and I'll tell you if I think they're good. Terrell Thomas. No, he shot. Carlos Rodgers. Demetri Pearson. Champ Bailey. Sante Samuel. Jabari Greer. Drayton Florence. Rasheen Mathis Josh Wilson all these guys are just guys easy bigger bigger Just never heard that guy Bryce McCain Quentin Jammer Corey Webster Dunta Webster yeah like from the Giants Corey Webster. I think so doesn't tell you where he is. Oh, yeah, it does I can jump on him see where he is. I think he shot to a lot of guys. Yeah He is 32 Whatever. I'll figure it out. I know, but guys who came and went, who we missed out on. It's a big list, right? The list of guys who came and went. Dorell Revers, Brent Grimes, Akib DeLee, Walter M. Verner, Vontae Davis, Dominique Rogers-Kamarti, Sam Scheil, Alta Thurman, Charles Tillman, Antonio Kamarti, Terrell Brown, Captain Munnerlin. D'Angelo Hall, Corey Graham, Derek Cox, Chris Cook, Brandon Browner. Let me ask you a question. If they signed Chris Cook, would you be like, yeah, they shored that shit up? No, no. So what have you been naming them? But I listed five guys who I would have been happy. Do you want Brandon Brown or you can't play for the first four games? And then if he has another DRC is the one that I'm most upset with. But he's not that good. All right. All right. Like, sure, it would have been nice to have, like, this guy, but not paying him like, like, yeah, we're gonna pay you tons of money, because you're the best one left in like the cornerback musical chairs game. It's not like he's the greatest cornerback in the universe. This was a guy who was traded with a second round pick for Kevin. called. So that, that's how good he is. Him and the second round pick.
00 Jake: went to Philly for Kevin Kahl. You were in a safety position? No, because it's what it was last year except the younger guys have to improve like Antonio Allen. They were very high on him. And I feel as though if Ed Reed feels like it, he'll come back and play that role again that he was playing and where he played well towards the end of the season where he played special situations. Look who he could sign right now. That's still that's out there right now. We can put together the all-star Jets But Kerry Rhodes, right? You're my Bell Kerry Rhodes Ed Reed and Jim Leonard. Let's bring them all back They can all come back Decide if he feels like playing it's wrong. Ryan. Kark. Why is no one's having Ryan Kark? I know he's on ESPN, but why is no one signing him? It's 34. That's why he's old I feel like if Ed Reed feels like playing he'll play with the Jets and I feel like Antonio Allen and LaRon Landry are perfectly fine. Alright, let's talk about the number 10 to replace the number 10. Although we think that this is actually a done deal and he's staying in Eagles. Sean Jackson's gonna stay there and it was all smoke. Although... Usually where there's smoke there's fire. It's a little weird that it was like all over that the guy wanted out and that they were gonna cut him and that they were gonna trade him and this and that and the other. I wouldn't have traded for him. He makes a shit ton of money. Well, I think that's, well, but you were in a low round trade and you can't trade your compensation compensatory picks, which we can talk about now, because we have a ton of them. So you can't trade those. Right. All right. But we could have traded like one of our fours, right? You could see trading a four. That's what one of the Eagles, though. I'm like, a fourth round pick. Because it's money that gives them money. It's like gas because it frees up $10 million in cap. And we have the cap. I mean, to me, that would have made the Jets wide receiver core look a little bit more interesting. A speed guy, you know, obviously young, so he's not. You know, it's not worn out. But again, let's get to the pick side. This is supposed to be, and I don't know if this is one of those things that they say every year. Although I feel like last year was the year they said, quarterbacks are terrible in this. It's not deep in quarterbacks and not deep in running backs. Running backs didn't go to the second round. Quarterbacks, one went in the first round, and obviously I think two went in the second round. Very not. traditional draft last year. It was not supposed to be deep. This year is supposed to be deep in a lot of categories. Black receivers, one of them. And here's where the Jets have 12 picks. Three in the fourth, four in the six. Yeah, big picks. And we have every other pick. So we have all of our picks plus those. And we can trade two of those fourths. our own and the Tampa one, right? So we got, yeah, we got four to Compensary. We got two sixes. Three sixths. And one fourth. Three sixes and one fourth. So we have three in the fourth, two of which we can trade. Right. I feel like the fourth round is where we're just gonna make hay. I feel, keep them all. We've made hay in the fourth before to and we've done it in the fourth. We want good for it.
00 Jake: Give me the second, the first corner back and give me an extra running back in the fourth. Yeah. That's what I want to see. Okay. Well, you could definitely draft a running back whenever you want because just like last year, I don't think there's going to be one in the first round again. That'll be weird. Yeah. A lot of the writings on the wall for no running back again in the first round. Right. Even though it seems so silly, it's like why if you didn't have a running back, wouldn't you have drafted Eddie Lacey last year cess Right. Look how great of a year he had. Yep Drafted him until the second or third second round. I think yeah He was the maybe the first back off the off off or Giovanni Bernard Why would you not have drafted in the first round? Like that's like weird after watching and I know why I know I know you missed out on a real productive offensive weapon Seems I silly. Well, it's just you get one pixie. We use it on other stuff. So with 12 peps going in the draft. And by the way, a cap, you read the same article I did, that the cap space for the jets for the next three years is all good. It's like we have the most cap space right this minute, and we have the next year, stating right now where we are now, we'll have the most next year. So it's like... This is a build over the next three years and become really good. Question is, are the enough places, the big pieces around, can we keep the coach long enough? Can we keep the quarterback long enough? Can we keep the quarterback long enough? 12 picks. Give me just off the top of your head, out of those 12 picks, what are you looking to see? And we'll come back to a draft show. Well, it's tough. I mean, 12 picks. I would imagine just- Okay, I would imagine that there's gonna be a for 12 picks if you so you said so last year we had 7 6.6 7 or 8 or something and we had five starters come out of it Yeah, right so guys who are still on the roster too if you had 12 picks like what would be great Great positions are just guys on the roster starters so starters So if you have 12 picks, I don't know if there's as many slots to fill this year as there were last year to So, like, if you were to draft the three starters, I'm just not sure there's holes to fill. Like, maybe a starting receiver and a corner, and maybe someone to challenge on the offensive line, like Winters or somebody like that, even though he was just drafted last year.
01 Jake: Like, I feel like they're going to draft three to four offensive linemen. I just feel like that's the way that this guy wants to build the team. He's just going to draft offensive lineman every single year until they get really good ones and some will hit and some will miss and that'll be that. Like some will be Vlad to Cas. Oh, well, right and some will back to the Vikings and some will be Brandon Moore who is drafted as a defensive you know he was defensive lineman drafted to play guard and ended up playing forever as a sixth round just like we did last year with will campbell who was on the project squad we drafted him he's defensive lineman we're tournament to an offensive lineman they're gonna do that a lot they're gonna draft like three of those dudes they'll draft two more defense they'll draft you know a couple of defensive backs and then They'll probably draft at least one running back and a couple of receivers. No safeties? I said defensive backs. I don't know what they'll be. Okay, but I feel like they have quite a like they have a bunch of safeties. Like they have Antonio Allen and Bush who are both in the third year. They have Jaquan Jarrett. They have Laurent Landry. That's four safeties right there off the top of my head. I know they got another one sitting around somewhere. You only play two of them. Yeah, at the most. I mean, sometimes the linebacker. Yeah, they might pick an edge linebacker, middle linebacker like we got very fortunate last year. Davis and Harris didn't get hurt. We've been very fortunate. Actually, last year we were like, that's probably why we're eight. Nate is because we didn't get injured. the key in which gets the fact that our quarterback gave a fuck but true he was in quarterback got hurt to start the C. So like that's that's the reality we were healthy beyond that. All right, a few minutes left in the list, let's talk about some rule changes of- Cause I've heard him talk about this. Why can't the NFL put a laser up there? Put a laser up there. It's stupid. Why can't they just... It's not stupid at all. No, it's stupid that they can't. Yeah. Why? Put a fucking laser beam. Just put the beams up and that way you can look at it for real. Right. You can just go see the light. You don't even have to challenge it. It's a scoring play. You go see if it went in or not. Right. If it hits the laser, it's not good the laser Done laser lasers They've got lines on the field if you're watching at home, why can't we have lasers? I don't even need to be there. They just need them like no, I they should be on the top Just pointing up because then the ball you see the ball Click it It's the ball you'd see the laser hit the ball
01 Jake: I feel like they would like they would not want to do it because it's like well The ball can hit the upright and still go in right or it Can hit the upright and not go in and how do we choose? You'd have to make a ruling like if it touches it's out Even if it just barely makes it and then someone would have a shit bit though if the laser beam touches the fucking ball It's still better than now and just the wrong side is over the top of it and they have to make like now You know what that means? The last year and it was like it postponed the game a little bit. That's why this is bullshit Let the guys fucking celebrate. What if I don't dunk it? I go up and you know Having the ability to use the Replay Center out of New York to help with the angles and whatever. Good, get it right. that you could do a replay on a... They're never gonna... They're gonna do it. Whichever he told you I'm gonna be really pissed off when the Jets lose a game because some idiot The quarterback on fourth down in the fourth quarter and the you know All we got to do is kneel on it and they celebrate using the n-word and we lose the game I'm gonna be this one is huge time of the roster reduction from 53, after the fourth preseason game, from 6 p.m. Eastern to 4 p.m. Eastern. Oh, that's a big one. Oh my god, those two hours. That one, that one pass that was like, on Thursday nights, you could carry three more guys. I don't think that passed. That the stupid, that should be a no-brainer. That's Mark Cuban saying the NFL is 10 years to to improve. Yeah, I don't care about it. Mark Cuban and. His stupid proclamations. He's wrong. Well, he's I thought that I thought and I don't really like Kraft because he owns the jet of the wish, but he owns the the Patriots.
04 Jake: But he's like, yeah, I'm pretty sure we have contracts lucrative TV deals for the next 10 years, unless they all blew up on the 10th year and we never signed another one. It's just a dumb statement. I think there is our circular and. Listen baseball ruled the world in America for years. Yeah But it's football's time and it's not going away in the next ten. It's just growing in the next ten I just I think it's going next time. I I do wish the NFL would Kind of just stop with some of the stuff. I think there is nice about the NFL is the the scarcity of it. And if you make too much of something, then it has less value. That's true. Those Thursday night games are are sometimes just crap. Tell me they're valuable. They're not. And everyone has to play in one, which is fair. Fair. But sucks. Right you know what I mean? Like those games are. They're not good. Think about like playing on a Sunday, getting the shit kicked out of you. And not having that full week to like just re-energize and recover. Yeah. I mean, shit, I'll go work out and I need three days to recover. These guys are getting their ass kicked for three hours. Right. Basically a three hour workout. All right, well that wraps up this week for the Jet Kingdom podcast. We will be doing the... That's your vinegar strokes. That was my vinegar strokes. We will be doing a pre-draft one because it'll also be the week before a very special event. That's right. I think I'm gonna cry. Oh, so then there will be about 40 days from now. About 45 days. So... We will not be doing a very good post draft. Well here's the thing, we can. We absolutely can. So it will have to be the Monday morning after the draft. Oh, okay. Or the Sunday. Or the Sunday. Or Saturday night, right after the draft. Saturday night or after the draft. The Monday morning we can do this. Saturday afternoon after the draft. Don't think that's gonna work. Don't think that's good. Nothing on my fucking calendar. Let's just do it The best part is he's turning 17 shades of purple All right, so we'll be back if there's other news. Otherwise, we'll get ready for our big draft. We might do one big pre postseason Free agency one maybe do some grades Well if we do something like if we do something that's worth talking about like again that we we didn't have to podcast this week but things happen. Well, Vic. That's right. The shit happens. So you're calling Vic shit. No, I'm just saying like if something happens It's worth talking about we'll get on and fucking talk about it. Sounds good. All right until next week Go back to review on iTunes you fucks We'll be back. That's the way to ask for review. There you go As always, let's go Jans.
