09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Can't wait! Jake: Three, two, one, go! Go, go, go! Weeee! Welcome to the Jack Keanin podcast. Longest running near Jets podcast ever. I'm Jake, joining me 222 times in a row, dressed up. Well, I sit here in my Jets Draft t-shirt sweating my ball sackers off. Justin joins me in his nice polo and his fancy socks. and chest hair. Chest hair, don't forget the chest hair. We are once again challenged by microphones. We have two brand new mics and they both can't be used at the same time. So stupid. So we have another other travel mic and my mic. So I sound awesome and Justin sounds like the boost that he normally sounds like. That's not cause he has a cold, it's cause he's talking to an extra mic. I feel good. I feel fresh. and I can't really let loose with this microphone. Right, so let's quickly get it out of the way. Let's talk about the Jack King of Fantasy League. Do not now. Yeah, we have one guy, one spot left. Although there's been some problems with who can show up and whatever, so we sent out some viewers. basically runners up. So here's the deal. I'm sure we're gonna need we're gonna need a couple other players. So it's still like a chance to get in. If you still have a thought, this draft date is driving people crazy. It's Thursday, this Thursday, 5pm Eastern Standard Time. It's really not that big of a deal. Thursday the 28th. 28th of August. So anyway, send an email podcast at jakim.com. There might be like a, you know, last minute. So if you're available and whatever, there might be a last minute dropout or something like that. We did get a our last entry and just we're gonna move on very quickly because we are at no time No time today so We will say to Steven Steven Pollard you are welcomed as the last spot in the league patent pending Maybe there might be another spot if someone else we've had that one dropout So Stephen will join us. He tweeted at us. He sent in his submission. We need to move on. So we're going to get on talk about the game. But I think that's it. Everybody see you at the draft on Thursday, 5 p.m. Other people will be like, oh, maybe I should just send in your email. If not, get you an early entry into next year's. We get to know your name and that might help. Alright, so let's get going to the Giants game. Let's talk to- Justin: Snoopy Bowl! Oh, we lost the Snoopy Bowl. Jake: You know what? We lost the Snoopy Bowl, but I felt like we won the Snoopy Bowl. Oh, we won the Snoopy Bowl. You know how we won the Snoopy Bowl?
00 Jake: Tell me. Because we looked okay. I think- We scored points. I think- Yes. that that is more of a reflection on how bad the Giants are unfortunately. So you're gonna say that the looking okay wasn't okay. I think the Jets offense looked good. Yeah. I liked the way the Jets offense looked and I can't say anything bad about the defense. They really didn't give up a whole lot of anything though they did give up that touchdown at the end of the at the end of the half, which I'm not sure happens if real corners are on the field. Hey, guess what? We're never going to have real corners on the field. Well, you know, D. Milliner will be on the field. And to me, Antonio Allen looks fine. It's just he got a concussion in the first quarters, and then he's out. Patterson will talk about in a moment. I mean, I feel like if it wasn't Guy off the street who he signed two weeks ago, who since 2011 has been on nine different teams, I feel like maybe that's not a touchdown drive. But that's just what we were dealing with there. They wanted to see what the kid could do more than. You know, I like Rex's approach to this preseason as opposed to preseason's in the past where he's really just trying to win every game. He's just trying to see what guys can do, put them in situations that are challenging for them to see if they can handle. And that, I think, is what the preseason should be all about. Well, there's no winning preseason. Well, the Giants are 4-0, but they should feel like shit about themselves. Because they look terrible. And Eli's gonna play in the fifth game. He has to. Because it's so terrible. He has to. No winning in the preseason. So, yeah. Our offense looked good to me. I feel like we can run the ball on just about anybody. I feel like Gino looked... Like, to me, he looked like a professional football quarterback. Yes. Did he look comfortable or what? He looked real deal. Nothing was like, oh, like you weren't like, you know, you weren't like on pins and needles when he dropped back. He missed one throw to Decker where Decker was open over the middle, which would have been a really nice game. He missed him, but he missed him in a way that wasn't troublesome. It wasn't picked off. It wasn't. He just. It was just off by a hair and I feel like they could correct that and his statistics were You know pretty good, right? He's he's he's got 120 qb rating for whatever that's worth. He throws for 137 yards He throws for a touchdown. No, no interceptions. No fumbles. He even ran the ball a couple times, right? He ran the ball for 17 yards, which he's gonna do He's gonna get like 30 or so rushing yards every game just his scrambling ability. He looked like a real... I was impressed for the first time with Geno Smith. Oh, no, not the first time. There's been many games. The Atlanta game, he impressed me. The second Pats game, he impressed me. Um, the Miami game at the end, which I've actually gone back and watched a couple times now, he impressed me.
00 Jake: But if you just take his death, so he played for about a half, he played for that half. Justin: He played one full half. Jake: So take his numbers and double them, let's say. I know it's a bad way of looking at it. So then you're 24... Sorry, 18 for 24? No, not good math. No? Math skills evading you today. Forget the... His completion percentage stays the same. It's 64%. Doesn't just because you're doubling it doesn't make it any different. I was saying he attempted 18 for 28. Okay, 18 for 28. That was what I was doing. Which is still 64%. For, you know, roughly almost 300 yards, give or take. Give or take. Give or take. And two touchdowns. Sure. That's fine. Yeah, the rating doesn't change. I mean, every quarterback played... pretty well in this game. Yeah, I mean Vic comes out, has kind of a bad play to begin and then fumbles the ball. Fumbled the ball immediately. Yeah. But aside from that, you know, led them to a touchdown drive, which was nice. Here's what, you know, again, before we just go piss on Isaac and this corner situation, which is looking more and more like a real, real bad thing. Let's take a trip down south and go to a team that has a quarterback They drafted many years ago a couple years ago. Think going to his fourth year was hurt last year. Are we talking about Miami? Nope. Who are we talking about down south? Well, down Midwest South of us. Everybody is south of us. Not the Patriots No, Bradford, Brad, Sam Bradford goes out again second year. He's out for the entire year He's gone their backup is Shawn fucking Hill Shawn. No fucking Clemens. No, no, Callen Clemens No, he's not a team. Who is it? He's not No-no, really? I thought that was two backups You'd be wrong. Kelling Clemens, I think we were talking about this just the other day is on the Chargers. Oh wow. Okay, he's not even there anymore. As much as I think, you know, the whole hype of bringing in Vic and blah blah blah and I'm so much, my sphincter is so less tight with going into the season with having Vic. has the backup. Quarterbacks get hurt all the fucking time. Quarterbacks sometimes suck it up. Second year quarterbacks can have terrible games. I'm excited by the fact that if Geno Smith has a terrible game, gets hurt, gets his bell rung, whatever the fuck happens, that in comes a guy that's not Sean fucking Hill. S S on the show no other, three years 500 career record as a starter, started 26 games know I think he's good on the lions that year Who are the backups to EJ Manuel? Second year quarterback, struggling his first year, hurt Chef Rachael and some other guy. I mean, don't you just- Doesn't that- It's kind of like you go visit somebody in a small house. I like the VIC signing. I like what it did on the offensive side. I said it very early on in this podcast. We got the best free agent quarterback.
01 Jake: We got the best free agent wide receiver. We got the best free agent running back. Period. Without a doubt. And then he went out in the draft and drafted a couple guys in the first couple rounds that should be helpful and useful. you would think. Yep. Right. He also is looking like a Maro. And I know he's a list of who impressed. Amaro impressed. He looked good prior, right? He's going to come along and he did a couple of other things here and there and free agency that that solidified certain areas. He, you know, he brought in the right tackle from Seattle because we lost our right tackle, but. at a discount. So there are some things that he's done that were really well done. Right. And then on the flip side, you got this corner back situation. And I guess we'll just flip through the game. Whatever the game was the game. Justin: We're pressed. Jake: Oh, Gino Smith impressed the shit out of me. That was the I'm telling you, he looked like a real quarterback. He looked very comfortable with The system, they clearly had a plan, they were able to run whenever they wanted to run, they were able to pass whenever they wanted to pass, they picked up first downs, they had a couple of big longer plays, like Decker I think had like a... What was that? Looking at the... The... Box score now, Decker had a long pass. How long was it? Two to Decker? Yeah, he had one nice average long 27. 27, that was down the seam. That was like a really nice, like I watched the whole thing out. He looked the safety off one way, came back to Decker, hit him right in the. The seam, it was a really nice throw. Had the nice touchdown throw to Amaro with the little touch getting everyone sucked in on the play action really nice And and not for nothing that shot to Sudfeld I mean he played that well he played that well and and there was a Stephen Hill drop that should have went for about 25-30 yards. Stephen Hill doesn't fucking drop balls. Stop it. Even though with the drop. Stop it. He had the one- back shoulder. The corner runs right past Stephen Hill. Ball hit Stephen Hill in the chest. No drop just doesn't happen complete an Unutter drop. All right. All right, so Gino Smith. So he was you know, Smith looked really good to me as did the The Chris running back tandem both of them look great. Oh, Chris and Chris. I mean just Chris and Chris watching them run What's fun is they they almost are textbook different runners. You're literally gonna say, oh wait, what does a hard runner look like? And what does a finesse runner? What is a runner to the outside who likes to, you know, uh, you know, go to this, go to the outside and miss, make a guy miss versus what's a guy who like wants to make someone hurt like these two guys on tape, you just watch them. These are textbooks in the encyclopedia for runs hard. Run hard, Chris Ivory.
09 Jake: I'm trying to think like who I mean I could continue to pick on Stephen Hill all day long I mean that was a little depressing it was a little bit depressing was that that Rashad Jennings was able to run For as many yards and have as high of a average as he had like I really feel like the run defense this this preseason against the Startering like hasn't been as locked down as I would really have liked to have seen so you know we did get a lot of pressure on Eli whenever he was dropping back but they were able to run with Rashad Jennings and that wasn't really pleasant to see I don't know the who's that's on Patterson depressed by just not being there and we'll talk again we'll talk about that in a minute aside from that you know I liked what I saw on the field I don't mind that we lost this game I feel like they played really well whatever when it's Matt Sims versus Nassib or whatever the hell right now I said it's not a game yeah I mean whatever I feel like they played well like And the fact that if Gino looked as good as he did and his comfortable really like the comfort level was there Like you could tell oh man He looks in charge That was really I'm telling you is like the first time I've really seen it where like Gino looked in charge He didn't look lost he really took control and it was very under control. Like it didn't look rushed. In the preseason you watch some of these younger quarterbacks and they just look rushed all the time. Like everything's just happening way too fast and then they get sacked and you're like, oh, offensive line sucks. It's like, nah, he just didn't see it. He's seeing it. He's it's slowing down. So that's good sight to see. Alright well we lost we have to pick a fool. Stephen Hill, done. Alright well I'm gonna pick. I'll pick it and then let's talk about it. I'm gonna pick the guy who doesn't show to the fucking game. AWOL. I think it's the word. AWOL. So Patterson doesn't show. Patterson's AWOL. Well he's now not he's back. He's now been suspended indefinitely. Why are we not just cutting him? I think because we have nobody else. But he's suspended and definitely they have to figure out what was the reason they did it. I mean, this is what me listening to NFL Network for, I don't know, the 20 hours in the car this weekend. The reason it is because they don't know what happened. Like, you know, they want to investigate. Like, was this he was I'm just throwing things out there. Was he drunk? Was he high? Was he, you know, in a whatever like they want to know what it is before they go in. Oh, you think that he like. Got in trouble. My impression of this is that he got mad or
02 Jake: Upset about like something in the game plan where I bet he wasn't a starter This is my impression. I know that they aren't saying anything and he just got pissy like pissy pants I'll do that and not show up to a game. That's why he's suspended indefinitely yeah, I feel like they were like no Antonio Allen and Whoever else started on the other side Walls who played fairly well he did so we need to either was a six foot started a couple games last year It's not like he's terrible We we want to see what these two guys can do on the outside You're known as an inside guy, but Kyle Wilson's our inside guy, but we're gonna mix you in We're gonna get you in you haven't practiced and he probably was like fuck Antonio Allen's a safety fuck that I'm not fuck you Jets, I'm not showing up. I just can't. That's the impression that I get from what happened. I don't think that's true. He said he was a family of family. Yeah, to me that's like, I was unprofessional. All right. Yeah, I don't know. Part of me is just like, if you're gonna change the culture of the Jets, this guy gets cut. Cut. But. You're then, you know, you're then taking a depleted, depleted area that's depleted and double depleted. And this was your idzic answer, like, oh, he'll go get some guy. As you said many times, he'll get some guy. It'll be a good guy. He'll get a guy. a guy. This was the- We're still gonna get a guy. Oh Jesus. Well, there's not a lot of guys. No, no. When I say we're gonna get a guy, it's gonna be a guy like now, when the cuts start to happen. Cause guys are gonna- the, and and and-- to 53. that teams don't necessarily wanna cut. They think they can trade. And I think we have a running back trade chip. And Dale Richardson. And Dale Richardson. I think we have a chip. So, sorry, just go back to Chip. So one of the big spots for maybe to land down in the Rams for a trade, and everybody's been talking about this, was trading Mark Sanchez, because he's looked really great. And a guy, I think it was Sal Palantoni, was saying, like, Mark Sanchez' stock will never be better. Never be higher. Because if he sits all season on the bench, he's not going any higher. If he gets on and he fubs it, he's not going any higher. He's on a one-year contract. The Rams just lost their quarterback. Here's a young guy who looked really good, He's gonna get hurt. He gets hurt every time he gets on the field. Okay. Thank God you traded into my life. That's what I do. Yeah. So in other words, the mystery, mysterious accident of the world. It's a seizure. With a seizure. So, and they're playing him. They're gonna play him out there. Justin: Yeah, he's gonna return some punts. Yeah. Jake: And he's gonna see what he can do in the slot. It's gonna be sad.
01 Jake: Hill and Saunders. My conspiracy theories, they want two more people to get hurt so they can put them on IR. They don't have to. They should put like Stephen Hill on IR. If you were to ask me, I'd rather have Frank Salas. Tony, what's her name? Tonya Harding. Tonya Harding. Yeah, Jeff Gollui. They just go clip his knees. So then I feel like that kid, Salim Akim, number 15, he's making the team. And he's a receiver. But he's a special teamer. He's a gunner and he's a kick returner. That fast guy. Because they caught Jacoby Ford. Celine McKim is a receiver on the team. Right. So that means there's room for Saunders, Hill, Salas. Two at most of those three guys are going to be on the team. Alright, so let's talk about what we want to see on Thursday night. We have Jet's Eagles. No, Sancho. No Sancho. So mad. No Sancho. Do you know that he has a higher than 80% completion percentage this pre-season and he's just killing it? You and I both know that we've seen enough tape on Sancho. Justin: No. He was in the wrong system. No, it's bullshit. Yes. No, it's bullshit. He's in the wrong system Jake: He needed the Chip Kelly system ever. He runs it very well. You should see it man So, I mean basically no one's going to think is playing Yeah, but like he's gonna play hopefully one series I mean, is this a galactic mistake? Is this what happens if Vic gets hurt? I think he plays the first series, and then he's gone. It's three handoffs and see how far we go. Okay. And then you're out. Right. Take a seat, kid. Take a seat. You started this game. Take a seat. And then we gotta make our Sims versus Boyd decision. And I think it's Sims all the way. I think it's Sims. Sims looks not, looked not. First of all, Boyd didn't even play in the third game. No. And he's not. Well, and the other thing is, if you put it, so I know this is another, this is me not knowing crap about being a general manager of a team, but like if you put him out there and he looks great, and then like you have four guys and you want to throw him down in your practice squad, right? Just because now if you, I know if you threw him on your practice squad, he has to go through waivers first. Yeah clear waivers. Please. So Do you kind of want him to look good? Because it's someone else might take a look versus me. He goes out there and stuff. It all depends on if they're going to put Sims on the practice squad. I don't think they would. Because last year, they only had two quarterbacks dress every game. It was Gino and Sims. Whoever that third one was, no matter who it was, never dressed. Remember, we had this guy who I don't think went on IR until like week three or four. Well, Sanchez didn't go on IR, but then they signed Brady Quinn and he never dressed. That's true. He never dressed. rest. Ever. Two guys. Yeah. So I don't know if they'll do that this year. I feel like they should dress three. Sims would be the third. Yeah. And I think Boyd will be on the practice squad. So this will be in the gauntlet of our drafting. So I'll have just completed one draft. I'll be heading into my
00 Jake: second draft. So I will be watching. Don't draft Taj Boyd. No, I'm not drafting Taj Boyd. Did read an article this morning that was saying that Decker is a complete sleeper, that no one's thinking that he'll do anything, and yet all the stats of watching him play, and even the amount of time that he's played in the games and the amount he's been targeted, like... He's gonna be very highly targeted. Right. He's like the guy to target. He's the guy. Alright, so anything else you want to see out of that? No injuries. Just no injuries, please. And there's a ton of guys I just don't even want to see with pads on. Just no helmets, no pads. Just wear your jerseys. Like, entire starting defensive front seven. Don't wear your jerseys. or don't wear your pads. I wouldn't mind seeing Antonio Allen come back from his concussion, but I don't think that's going to happen. Hmm. Yeah, I don't. Concussions you don't mess around with. No, give him another week. Give him another week, but I'd really like to see him play. What's the word I was due for a monor? He was on the bike yesterday. Okay, out of the walking boot and on the bike. I mean, now it's in like regular season mode, so the media is only at practice for 30 minutes. To me, it's, I know this is insane and sort of the, you know, we're, next week, by the way, next week we're gonna do our actual picks because we're gonna sit back. We're gonna grab a fucking snack. and a beer, and we're gonna go for it. It's gonna be a- It's gonna be four beers. It's gonna be a long episode. So next week we're gonna pick all the games and then we Let him get healthy cuz he's didn't got to go to the gauntlet I don't take another week to get healthy and strap him up and play in that game Cuz he needs to be on the field to get some reps in like so let's talk a little bit of things that I was right About what were you right tomorrow? I'm not right until the season starts, but you're excited. I'll meet you excited. I'm excited about the offense because I feel like All the things Amaro did, there's no reason why Cumberland couldn't do. And there's no... Cumberland's not as fast as Amaro. Cumberland's a good receiver. Yeah. He is. He's a big... But I'd rather see Cumberland and Amaro on the field than Amaro and Sudfeld on the field. I just love that pairing. I mean, I know Sudfeld's not... You know, he's not at the... the peak but there's something about a six six fucking monster. Yeah but he doesn't do much. No he almost if he got that pass yeah but almost sort of kind of like Stephen Hill maybe if he would have caught that pass but he doesn't. Anyway I don't think I think I don't know I mean Cumberland
01 Jake: hasn't been on the field yet. He played the first game. And then it's been hurt. Yeah, he has been to Killy's. Killy's? I just don't think he's going to see a lot. I think these are the two guys you're going into the season with a lot. You think you'll see Cumberland on the field? Yeah. I think it's Amaro. The other thing that I like that people ask me, you know, as a Jets fan, oh, what's going on? As we're watching the game, the thing that gets me excited about the season is. The people who are making a difference on the field are coming from our offseason, meaning the 13 that went 8 and 8, right? If you're a 12 and 4 team, you don't expect the people on the field to be making the difference coming from the offseason because you're a good team. It's not like the Broncos are going to be like, oh, look at all those people we picked up and how they're doing so well. Well, they are. They lost people. you you So. Yeah, but they're and what their quarterback and they're running back where their people don't know they're running backs gone No, they're running back sitting right there. He's my ball. He didn't play last year. Yes, he did Oh really was he their guy? No, he was he was not their guy and he really wasn't no He really he really wasn't anyway I know by the way, where's that guy Eric Decker? Not on Denver. So like they lost guys. A guy. They also picked up some great defensive guys. Justin: That's your, your, your sort of counter. Jake: What I'm saying is the guys were making a big difference who I'm excited about seeing on a, from an eight and eight team standpoint. are what I think they should be is coming from our off seasons looking better and better again. I'm looking at Chris Johnson making plays. I'm making a Maro making plays. Calvin Pryor looks good. Vic is a very good backup like oh look look at all these guys who are making a difference. Oh and Decker these are guys who weren't here. We were an eight and eight team and now these guys are on our team and look like they're actually contributing not on a small scale. The difference makers. And I'm excited about it. So I think there's a lot of hope, a lot of hope for the world. Anyway, so okay, we got the draft, we got JK Draft, we got the JK Kingdom Pick'em. If you haven't joined, you can. Go to Fantasy Sports on Yahoo. It's league 2116, the password is podcast. I'll tweet it out a couple more times before. There's a bunch of people in there now, so it's great. Lots of fun. Next week, we'll do our marathon session. We'll pick every game. time. We'll pick the playoffs, we'll pick the Super Bowl, maybe I will be 100% correct again, which would just be a maze balls, and watch Justin, you know. Because when I'm right, things go right. Oh, I was right about the Jets season too, so. It goes to two without going over. Price is right rules, bitch! All right, so until next week, we'll be back. See all you in the draft. Go Jets!
