00:19 Jake: Welcome to the Jack Cano Podcast, longest running New York Jets Podcast. Ever. I'm Jake joining me 267 times in a row. Justin. No last name. Justin, no last name. How are you? Justin: I'm trying to put my feet up. That's not a good podcasting position. This is the best. This is how we do it. That's terrible. That's how we win. That's how we win. This is how we win. Jake: All right, well, speaking of winning, we- Speaking of winning, the podcast is over. We didn't get to podcast last week because we were actually traveling. We were working, making a living. We were making a living because you lazy scumbags don't pay us any money to provide all this wonderful content. Justin: Let's get an Indiegogo thing going. Yes. Let's- Jake: some money Yeah, let's do that. So we're not gonna talk about the Jets versus Seahawks game. Suffice it to say we lost Justin: We're gonna talk like like politics. What are you talking here? Jake: Nope Talking Jets football talking just football. So she we lost against the Seahawks at home at home Justin: Could have won that one felt like we could have Just didn't Jake: That's gonna happen for us. Let's move on to the bigger I think the bigger letdown although the one that I think we thought we're gonna lose We should go back and look at our little like prediction thing but I Didn't it pretty this would be this bad, but definitely thought the Steelers would beat us. Yeah, and Justin: We very very very rarely if ever I know we have It's very rare where we beat Pittsburgh, especially in Pittsburgh. We, I think it's one in 10 or something. Yeah, it's that one year Sanchez beat him when we needed to get into the playoffs and we beat him. And then we went back there for the AFC championship and lost. And they crushed us. Jake: They didn't crush us. No, no, no. In the AFC championship, it was a crushing. It wasn't a crushing. I was there. Trust me, at halftime, we're down by at least 17. There was I know they got out to like a 24 nothing lead. It was no Justin: back there was Why if we stopped him on their last drive on third down? We were getting the ball back and we had all the momentum in the planet suffer Just was just looking terrible. Yeah, but he was he was coming back I mean we ended up losing by less than a touchdown, you know that right like the game was it
03:01 Justin: But it was not close understood understood but We were coming back. If that game was five minutes longer, we probably would have won. If it was five minutes longer, we would have scored a touchdown, and then we went down the field. Jake: Oh, no. That was a good defense that year. Speaking of good defenses, we played the Steelers, and let's talk about the game. It's not just Reavis who gives up big plays. It's our entire defense, the entire secondary. We are if we talk about who impressed and who depressed. Do you know what's depressing? What's depressing? Justin: The fact that. We have had such a bad. And this is not a... MacCagney issue. This is a... This is an issue that precedes him. Okay. That there are no guys on this roster that are any good that are left from... That are that should be in the primes of their career right the three four five year That's third year guy that fourth year guy Like there's there barely any of the guys even left on the roster and if they're there It's not like they're breakout superstars. They're Sheldon Richardson who hot take I got a thing on him in a minute and You know, we've got like we've got Corners starting out there that I've never heard of that was funny. No, like who is 27? I'm just gonna call him 27 27 on the field 27 is on the field like literally this guy's like starting Um, like then, I mean, we, like D milliner was a top 10 pick that was just such a flub. You're picking a corner and it's such a waste. We're paying him not to play. Jake: Yeah, but that's, I mean, I feel like that's a little bit. Justin: This is not really old news, these are guys who really should be stepping up, stepping up like right now. Jake: Sorry, i'm gonna be the bearer of reality. Last year we played a bunch of crappy teams and we lucked out more than a few times. We lucked out with the Giants, right, going for it on whatever, trying to kick, whatever. They're not taking the time out. What are the stupid things at the end of the game? We had some very lucky time. We were an 8 and 8, maybe 7 and 9 team last year. We lucked out and we played crappy team. We were 10 and 6. But again, we're coming back to the mean because... We're basically the same team. Well, we're not. In some ways we should be better in certain areas
06:00 Jake: because we, well, talent-wise, there's not been a lot of changeover and we have guys who are coming to their second year who should be playing better. Justin: It's not true. Jake: Karmarti's, what the loss of Karmarti is really. taking the top off our secondary. Justin: All right. So this was the thing I was going to go into Richardson. We are no longer a three, four team. Jake: No, we're a four three. Justin: Which is completely different and a complete departure from what we have been doing over the last 10 years. Jake: It's a great segui to go into coaching, but let's get there. Justin: So right now. They're playing a 3-4, technically, with Sheldon Richardson as an outside linebacker. He dropped in the coverage again. Well, that's what he's playing. He's playing linebacker. But he's an inside lineman. That is very odd. That's weird. And then we've got two rookies starting at linebacker as well. Lee and Jenkins. And then on the outside, you have, you know, Marcus Williams, who is I don't know, maybe he's just going to scream. I already maybe not. Who knows? They both get burnt. And that defense is not the same without some of the veteran guys that were there last year, Damario Davis, Calvin Pace. You replace those two guys with two rookies and it's not the same defense. Jake: Yeah, you're supposed to get stronger, faster, lighter. You don't get smarter though. No. Justin: that doesn't happen overnight. So that's not like a Macg magnet. So you sound like you're throwing some shade of Macg Well, it's a long term thing. It's a it's a short term loss for a long term gain because you can't throw rookies in and think that they're going to just get the game plan, get it immediately and be good right off the bat. Very difficult, very hard, especially at certain positions. Middle linebacker being one of them. Not a position that a rookie, I mean, David Harris didn't play as a rookie. Jake: So why are they, why are they playing? So why are they playing this? Justin: I don't know why. I think I think this is my guy. They don't have pressures. Well, no, three four would I think help with that. What they've done is... ...Mohammed Wilkerson put them in a pickle. He was like one of the best players on the defense. They didn't want to lose him. Heart and soul. Probably smart to re-sign him. We all cheered that. Totally agree. But... when you have Leonard Williams and Sheldon Richardson on the team, you're kind of forcing the let's get the best players on the field thing, even if it was to let's put the right scheme on the field. Jake: The last year it was the same thing. He had the same three guys. Justin: But you also had snacks and those same four guys rotated a lot.
09:03 Justin: But then why not go back to that? I don't know. I don't understand. I don't get it. I feel as though. Sheldon Richardson should be playing inside meanwhile, we have Leonard Williams playing inside and Like I'm not seeing the same impact from Sheldon Richardson or Muhammad Wilkerson, right? so like it's almost like the loss of snacks was bigger than the re-signing of Mohammed Wilkerson like it almost feels like that money should have went to snacks and they should have let Mohammed Wilkerson go Because you have Leonard Williams and you have Sheldon Mertens and you play your way You're a three four and you're happy your position and you play it out that way and it just feels Like it's forced right now and they're forcing themselves into a scheme that they just either aren't comfortable with coaching or playing. Jake: But that's ridiculous. You don't have to, I mean if you have players swap them in and out, have them be fresh. Listen, don't yell at me. This is just my observation. But I agree with your observation. Here's my other thing. This is getting into coaching where, again, I wasn't really ready to raise up Todd Bowles as the greatest head coach of the New York Jets ever last year. I think he did a good job, but a coach... Coaches are not made in a year because we've had we've had way too many first year coaches coming in to do well Justin: It's very easy to do well in your first year because typically you're hired because the team sucked the previous year Right you get a new voice new energy and A fourth place schedule. That's right Jake: And then the next year, you're then you're now with a second place schedule. And the voice is kind of like whatever. And you got a lot of veterans on your team and you're trying to rebuild because you're always trying to constantly rebuild the team. I think we're just seeing a rookie coach. Like we're seeing a guy who has not been a head coach in the league. Right. He's one year experience. This is the second year he's making. pretty bad mistakes on the field calls. I mean, what are your thoughts? I mean, everybody in the world has come down on him on the fourth call on the fourth, uh, going for a fourth and two down by 11 against a team that's been scoring on you constantly and that your defense has not been stopping very well. So it was like, why not just go for it? Justin: Yeah, I was yelling at my TV. I wanted them to go for it. That's for sure. Here's the one thing that I want to be. I personally want to be careful about it. I feel as though Todd Bowles. Has some learning to do on the sideline, definitely. And. What I don't want to do is rush to judgment and turn the whole thing over again. Oh, totally not, because I don't want to say that table sucks because we're one in four. We had a 1 in 4 stretch last year in our season. It happened. We had a 5 game stretch where we went 1 in 4.
12:00 Justin: Yep, so this happens. It's magnified because it's happening in the first 5 games of the season. And we've had an awful, by all accounts, schedule. Our schedule's been brutal. We've played teams that are really, really good. We've had tough road games. That's a fact. So, I don't want to be like Todd Bowles is the worst. I want to say Todd Bowles is learning. And I like his temperament. I like his the way he goes about things. And I like the way that he... I like the way that he puts... Things out there in the public like the style that he brings to it right like very X is super fun and brash and he's a complete opposite and He's he's more in the mold of of a ballot check. I'm not calling him Bill Belichick by any stretch Oh bowls is yeah bowls is like You're not gonna ask me whatever you want. I'm gonna say the same freaking thing you every time I'm not going to tell you anything that you really care about, to be honest. And that's not really my job. Like, my job is to coach the team and he's taken the responsibility. He's being accountable. He's saying, this is on me. This is my fault. I got to coach him up better. At the end of the day, though, players have to play better, too. And we've had bad quarterback play. We've had some bad receiver play with drops. We've had some bad offensive line play due to, I feel, due to just injury, right? We haven't had our starting right tackle yet. The whole season he's been on PUP. Our right guard has had a concussion the last couple of weeks. Mangold got hurt in this game, so you're missing. Jake: like three-fifths of the line. It's true, but those things I don't... they're not showing up in like Justin: seven sacks. Like he's like... Yeah, but we can't run. We have to run. We have Ryan Fitzpatrick. We have to run the ball. Last year we ran the ball very effectively. Chris Ivey, Blau Powell, ran the ball really well. There were holes. They hit him. And when you can't run the ball, like, against Seattle, you have to be able to like stick with it and run the same thing against Pittsburgh. You have to take the air out of the ball. You can't just give Pittsburgh the ball back. You can't go three and out. You have to be able to run. And we're we're supposed to be built that way like. We run the ball, we try to control the clock a little, our quarterback's not gonna put up 50 points a game. You know, we've got, we have running back talent, in my opinion. The holes just aren't there, because we're just playing with backups. Like, you can't play with three backups on your line and think that you're gonna have just holes everywhere for running backs to just start gashing teams. So I kind of can't wait, I know Giacomini's not the greatest right tackle in the universe. He's a good run blocker.
15:00 Justin: And I know Brian Winters isn't the greatest right guard in the world, but he's a starter, he's not the backup. And now Mangold I think is going to miss this game. So that's a problem. Three starting linemen, not on the field. And you're going to try and run the ball against Arizona. That's when you get in trouble because you can't and then Fitz has to win you the game as opposed to not losing the game I Don't want to ever say like not lose the game But it's like Fitz has to throw for 300 something yards But not as opposed to being able to just methodically move the ball Jake: But nothing none of the pieces are working because this team was also based on team that wasn't gonna give up massive amounts of points It's supposed to be a good defense. They're getting crushed Justin: in the secondary. We might have, this is so sad, but we might have one of the worst secondaries in the whole league giving up. We just give up one or two enormous chunk plays every single game and I'm waiting for bowls to start with like trying some different guys out there. He did it. He did. He tried number 27, whatever the fuck name he is. Whoever the fuck that is. And he actually played okay, right? He had Jake: Burris out there. He had Williams out there. He had 27 out there. I'm waiting for like, Justin: hey man, Antonio Allen's on this team. Why why why is he not playing over Rontes Miles in some of these packages? Remember when? He was covering ground. I remember it was a good game. Yeah, you know, oh wow. He can cover tight ends and He's a big dude and then they moved him a corner. So he's got cover skills clearly But he's a safety like when you have guys just crushing you over the middle like that Like like in the kansas city game Why couldn't we see a little antonio island just to see if he could well, we don't know what shape he's in Jake: I don't remember where he came from. I don't think he was was he off the street. He no he had acl. Oh, okay Justin: He's out He didn't play last year But I I don't see a reason why you can't get it shot and the team is in a crest is in a done byers not getting it so it's so it's very depressing Jake: pretty bad, no one's gonna listen to the podcast, no one likes listening to bad podcasts. Let's talk about... We had some injuries, did we? Yeah, I've got them highlighted down here. Oh, we'll talk about that when we get back to them. We'll talk about when we get to the game. Pick your fool of the game. Go ahead. You know what I'm going to do and you're not going to like it, so get over it. Justin: You can't pick a coach. I'm going to pick a coach. I've done it before and I'll do it again. Such crap. Man, so many fools to go around. I'll just pick how fuck the whole fucking team I'm gonna pick the
18:05 Justin: whole team like the defensive line Absolutely zero pressure on on Ben Roethlisberger nothing Jake: Well all that town up there so much, but they're all out of place like three first rounders. Justin: They're all out of place. They're all out of whack. Jake: To me, that's why. That's why it's coaching. I'm picking I'm you know, I like I totally agree with you. I'm not on the fire to turn Bulls bandwagon, but I am on the if you thought that this guy is going to come in here and go back to back season and win 10 and then win another 10 with Fitzpatrick as a fucking quarterback. I just don't like some of the decision making in game, I get it. You know, but we used to say this about her, I'm like, oh he doesn't know how to manage the clock and blah blah blah. I think the new shiny smell, new coach smell is off. Now we're any stinky. No, I'm saying that he's not the oh you're the just the guy who's after Rex You're now like you got to put together winning seasons. This is not gonna be a winning season This is going to be a learning season and I what I want to see him is to start to make the decisions Soon that this is not about This five minutes cuz I think he's very kind of like he gets very even last year again Could have learned some stuff last year, but we decided to win 10 games with Fitzpatrick. This year, I want to see us not win eight games with Fitzpatrick. I want to see us learn some things about the players who are gonna play for the next five years on this team. I have a question for you. Justin: Before the season started. Jake: Yep. Justin: And you looked at these first six games, this gauntlet of... Jake: I think I had... I can tell you exactly. You were saying what was that, what I think the record was? Justin: I'm gonna ask you different... Okay. Well, I'm gonna build my... Would you have been happy if I were to say to you, coming out of the first six games, we're gonna be two and four. First six... I would have said fine because that's what I had us at was 2 and 4. Would you have been happy with it though? Would you have had a positive outlook on the rest of the season knowing that the rest of the season the schedule is sort of simple except for two Jake: New England games? Oh wait this is 2013. I won't get the wrong year. I was like wow this I was like I had them going 7 and 9. If you look at the rest of the year it's Justin: really not all that bad. So... Jake: Had I was losing to this. I don't care what you had it. That's not really the question I had us doing better than that. It's not really the question. No, so I should I tune for so was I would I be happy with Justin: that yeah after Knowing what those six games are and they've sort of proven out to be shit. These are good teams I think I would have been happy bills the bills win looks Jake: better now than it sort of did that too. It looks better, but our losses look terrible. Like the losses are not good losses. They're not close losses.
21:01 Justin: No, because they're second half losses. Jake: And that's the thing. This team is collapsing. I don't like, I don't, for bulls, I give you the Fool of the Week, because I also don't like the adjustments. It seems like he adjusts his... Or lack their own. It seems like he adjusts his reverse. Like, everything you did, anything positive this week, let's go and make it work. The team is not coming out playing better in the second half. Justin: It was halftime of this Steelers game and we were down one. And I said, I'm perfectly happy here. Jake: Right. Yes, I have that as a quote. Justin: And all of a sudden, we just scored nothing after halftime and gave up a couple more touchdowns. And it was like... and just got away. Well, shit, we're like in Pittsburgh and we're down one and half, whatever. Like, that seems good. Jake: Well, so on the first six, yes, I had to do it four after six. So after this game, which I have as a losing, but I had as a winning, the Buffalo winning KC. So the only difference right now is the KC game. Justin: Again, not really, don't really care to like play the revisionist history of what you had. It's more of... Jake: I'm pretty much on target, but okay. Justin: Yeah, it's not about that. It's more about at two and four. Yeah with a game against the Ravens who are kind of stinky. Yep Two and four looking at a game that you can definitely win three and four Would you be like okay three or four that's actually okay? I have you asked me the other day. Yeah ready for Patty. Yeah . And not your captain obvious Fucking quote of the day here. You really need a fucking quarterback to win in this league Like it's super clear Jake: So only team I ask you the question I've been asking for two years is fucking Fitzpatrick that guy no But I didn't let's get the fuck rid of him. I stop. I just can't I just can't imagine We're gonna be we're gonna be terrible forever if we don't have balls like fucking Denver now simian or semen or butter please semen semen Please semen semen. Thank you. That butter. Thank you. We said we're gonna call him duck butter duck butter come out yesterday Looks like shit. Look like total coop boo-boo garbage. Yeah, but But that front office has the balls, huge, a huge, huge steel balls hanging between their legs because they drafted the guy in the first round, they picked up a quarterback off the pile of shit, and then they said, nope, we're going to take this other dude who, you know, just played better, we're going to see what we got with him. But look what their situation they've got a guy with potential upside and then they got their first round draft picks sitting in the back
24:04 Jake: Right. That's what I want. He stunk when he played he did not look good, but he's not but he needed the time They know that's why they put in semen very weird that this Justin: This deck Prescott deck the cact can look so good. It's amazing what a great offensive line in a running game can do for you. Jake: Look around the league, look around the league, look at all around the league, look at all these guys starting from Carson wins to Dak the CAC to the ones who were drafted in the fourth and fifth rounds who are doing pretty well. Pretty amazing though what an offensive line and a running game Justin: can do for you as a quarterback. An offensive line will help anybody. And Jake: I just, and I have to call the stats, I don't think our offensive line is playing as bad as you think they are. They are. I just think it's... You can't, you cannot... I don't think the talent's at running back. I don't see a guy who can bust through and there's two there's two break two tackles. There's two things Chris Justin: I really could break two tackles sure There's two things 1. 4K is a great size. I think if you watched a game last year versus a game this year, you'll notice that Fitz is hurried more. Maybe. I believe this to be fact. Okay. Jake: It's an opinion but okay. Justin: It's an opinion but I feel like if you watched the games, he's in a hurry a lot. this year he's scrambling for his life. and he's getting rid of the ball maybe just a little earlier than he wants to. I still feel like he's not getting sacked, he's winding up, he's in the pocket. He's not getting sacked because he's smart and he runs, but I feel like he's doing it way more often and I think a product of getting hurried so much is six interceptions. Like you're getting hard, you're getting rid of the ball. just before you really want to. And you're fluttering it or whatever. Jake: The timing is not. He's just not a starting caliber quarterback. Justin: That's fine. But look, there are guys who are not starting caliber quarterback. I don't want them. They're sitting behind a good offensive line where the pass rush isn't in their face every play. Then they can be. And I think that's what was happening last year and it's not happening this year and there's nothing To prevent people from full on rushing the quarterback because we're not being able to run the ball Jake: There's a lot of things that are not happening this year. Our schedule is not happening like it happened last year We're not hitting lightning in the bottle like that. Our defense is not playing as well as it did last year So there's lots of knots not happening. But I agree with you. You look at the schedule coming up, and if you could possibly, and I think it's a fucking long shot, but if you could possibly. I would say I went into last week having, I've never, I've never felt as pessimistic about a game ever in my life. Like I never, I I'm generally pretty positive guy and we predict the jets to win every week and I always convince myself by the end of the week that the jets can win on any given Sunday.
27:04 Jake: But last week against Pittsburgh I was like I just don't think they're gonna win. They're not gonna win. I don't think they're gonna win. That's why when you were so upset after the game couldn't even speak and I was like because I was like I didn't think they're gonna win this game. Justin: It wasn't like you were so upset. So angry. So yelling. You kept texting me every... four seconds about how shitty they were playing and I just didn't want to engage in it. So you were really the angry one. I was just watching it. Jake: No, if you'd actually had the balls come out and watch the game, I wasn't angry. I was just like, look, this is- I didn't want to come down and watch the game. It wasn't- Should've. You should've changed it up. Justin: We had such bad luck though. I did change it up. Was it better up? Was it better? No, but I did change it up by not watching it with you. And at half, I was going to change it up if I had to. But I thought, oh, we're we're fine here. I'm perfectly losing this game by one point. Yeah. One. It was a single possession game. I thought, anyway, whatever. Jake: No. So anyway, if you take a look, you take a look at the thing. If you're at two and four. So I agree with you. Let's just put it on the I'm putting it out there in the universe. Justin: Four games after two and four. Jake: And so if Arizona, if we win Arizona- If we win and we're 2-4, what are the next four games? Oh, it's at home in Baltimore. They suck. At Cleveland. They suck. At Miami. They suck. At home against LA. They suck. Justin: And then you're at your buy. So if you're 2-4 and then you have those four winnable games, let's say we fuck up and lose one of them. You could be at five and- Five. That's not the worst thing ever. Jake: You could be at six and five. Justin: Walking to the by. Not the worst thing ever. Going a little winning streak. I feel like we're let's do that. Let's do that. We're like right on the precipice of it. Jake: I just I just and I think. And so I agree with you. I'm on the fits. It's it's your week bro. This is it dude if you're one in five you may as well see what you have back there. Tom is, I know what's going to happen. He's not going to do anything, although he has Patrick Peterson out there. Like I don't think throwing in a rookie right now is good. He just came back off of, you know, he's just now starting to practice again. He's been injured. Justin: So you got to give him another week anyway. The one thing that can happen is Gino can't be starting games. It's all agree on that. Absolutely. No one can't be starting games. No one needs to see it. It's not necessary He's perfectly fine as the backup to my game day. Yes fine But as soon as petties healthy petty needs to be but the guy who's dressed versus so that's it Jake: They lose this week. They lose this week I would like to see petty start at home against the ball home game great way to start just do it Just way to start the game Justin: And maybe hit lightning in a bottle? He goes on a four win streak. And the Ravens offense sucks, so it's not like you have to throw up a billion points to beat them. You need like 17 points to beat them. Jake: If we go when we win and Fitz has a good game and the defense sort of steps up, I mean Arizona is very hot or cold. Very hot or cold. Justin: And they're better at home, but they are two and three. And it is Carson Palmer. We'll talk about them later. Jake: But I think they're two and three and desperate, which I don't like. Justin: They're not desperate. They were one and three.
30:00 Justin: They just won with their backup quarterback. That's desperate. Yeah. Anyway. And they got a good running back. They sure have a good running game. So let's get to... Jake: And they throw deep. They really do that's all they do not gonna be a really deep. All right, let's talk about the AFCs round up Justin: All right, what do we got out there? That's one again Brady's back That rust was what first snap 400 something yards crazy. How do you cover them? With Martellos Bennett and Gronk. How do you cover that team? Well, how? Jake: I don't know. I don't know. It's right back when they had Gronk and Hernandez murderer So I'll murder you on the field. Justin: Uh, Bill's been winning. Three and two, three in a row. Three game win streak for the Bills. And saved his job for now. For now. For now. They're eight. They probably still need to make the playoffs. They're eight. He's getting fired. Sammy Watkins gets injured. They fire their offensive coordinator and they roll off three games in a row. Yep Jake: I could also didn't go in lose the next three so absolutely They have a dolphin tough one in dolphins are officially terrible. Oh, they're awful. I mean, they're just terrible We actually we might be able to sweep them completely this year did that last year? Justin: I don't see why we couldn't do it this only hopefully bet and Jake: You're still you're fighting jags. Oh in there, dude Justin: All right, that is it still look like six percent chance. That's stupid. Well, let's double down Well, we've already bad. I don't need to double the bat Jake: We've already double the bet if you're so if you it's the same thing then you're more Justin: I don't need to double a bet that I've already made why not because I've already made but let's double it It's like now you know the season has started you would need to give me like super odds because the arty you're gonna lose 6% you're gonna lose um yeah but in all seriousness that division is terrible i agree and why can't my jags win that Jake: because they're not because they're part of the terror they're one and oh in the division they're part of the so so are we Justin: Great so we can we win the division no kids the pats are in our division pats aren't in that division Who's winning that division really I don't care. It's not them. Well who seriously it'll be Texans really cuz they're good Jake: No, they're awful. They're all gonna be like eight and something whatever. He's the dog is so bad Justin: I'm the cock is so bad. Good. Oh my god. Is he bank? I would have spent on money in him Jake: I would say the only thing that I'm loving about this right now And is that right now we have no allegiance to fits. Like other than our head coach is wanting to win games, but I get it, you want to win games, but eventually you have to realize we're not winning games. We need to see if we have something else. And maybe there's a spot. Yeah, somebody has to come from, Justin: McAgnan has to sort of come from up on high and say to Bulls. Hey dude, can you play one of those guys I drafted so that I know if I need to draft another one? Jake: Right, cause we'll be up there again. One way or another.
33:01 Jake: Alright, so let's get to uh... Jackie McBannister League? I won. You won! Put up numbers, I think. Good job, it's uh... Justin: Good numbers. Jake: Let's see, I'm gonna look at the standings here. I'm in... Ooh, wow! In the East, it's three of us, four of us at three and two. Justin: Yeah, it's tight. Jake: It's tight, so... It's tight. It's pretty good. I did lose last week. In all my fantasy leagues, I'm three and two. I feel like I did a good one. Every single one? Every single one. Wow. It's kinda weird. Yeah. Yeah. 3 and 2 in all of them. You're just average. Ah, that's above average. Slightly. But, thanks. I actually have a winning record, it's better than the Jets. But nevermind. Um, so that's kinda fun. This week, who are you taking on? You're taking a pretend football, I don't know. Well, I'm gonna tell you. I'm an asshole. You think I look at that thing? I said my line up. Whenever he's not winning, he doesn't look. No, no, no. I said my line up every year. I'm taking on Jetsie. Oh no, sorry, that was last week. Jesse's good. Oh, no, no, no, no team. Sorry. That is this week. I saw scores. I'm like, okay Hey on Jesse the week started. Yep Rocky Mountain Jets. He's the number one on the West So that I'm playing and you're playing the 2015 league champion playing Gareth. You're sharing Gareth going down Gareth It's got you You're the underdog. It's giving you three and a half, 3.3. It's giving me 15.4. Justin: I like being the underdog. I like it. Jake: All right. Justin: I like when people doubt me. Jake: All right, let's get out of there. Let's talk about some pick-ups. Where we are in our... Justin: Have I caught up with you? Not yet, but you're pretty darn close to two games behind me. Jake: Remember, I was like 400 games behind you. Justin: You were like 1,000 games behind me, and now you're really into the bottom. That is because... and feel you. Jake: Coming up on my rear. So nice because last week I hit an eight burger, which and would you guys isn't even good? But I but no it's good in this league. Yeah, you had a six burger. So I'll catch your ass Justin: There was a game last night Denver both got a San Diego San Diego 1 2113 we both had Denver. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, so we both lost that one. Let's move along to the Sunday slate Starting early only three four o'clock games on the East Coast. Let's start her off with Chicago hosting my Jags Chicago with the backup QB who I think they're just gonna just stick with it, right? He's playing. Okay Brian Hoyer, right? Yeah, he's playing fine. They're just gonna stick with that good for them Chicago's home favored by two and a half Love my Jags off the by Love them going in there gonna run all over that team Love it. Give me the Jags. I will take Chicago good for you. All right, Detroit is hosting the LA Rams Detroit is favored by three Detroit sucks the Rams while they don't have a very good offense necessarily, they're Like, their defense is pretty good, so they can stick in, they play close games, they're
36:02 Justin: getting three points on the road, I'll take the Rams. Jake: I like Detroit at home more than, I would never pick them on the road, but at home I'll take Detroit. Justin: Okay. Tennessee is favored by seven at home against Cleveland. Tennessee is a really good running team. Demarco Murray turns out still very good player. Yep. Just didn't work in that chip Kelly genius system Jake: So by the way, just not looking so genius now Justin: but okay, so I like Tennessee in this game because Cleveland is sucko and their quarterback situation is If you think ours is bad, that's As bad as it gets so I'll take Tennessee and I'll lay the seven against Cleveland too many points Jake: I think these are two sort of mediocre Less than mediocre teams. I think they'll just battled out to 21 24 type of game Justin: So Marco Murray's gonna run for like a buck. I'll take Cleveland Alright, we got the what? I wish you know that game. It's gonna be a two in a row. Holy shit. Alright, Carolina. Yep. This is what they call a kitchen sink game. For both of these teams, I think. Carolina at New Orleans. Carolina, though, what, one in four? One in four. Cam practicing. Yep. I believe he will play. Jake: The theory is he will. Justin: At New Orleans. Carl, I don't do it three. I Like Carolina, I can't see them being one in five. They're just too Jake: Good like why are you saying that? Why are you saying a one in four team is just too good? Justin: I just feel like with cam and Jonathan Stewart their offense is just too explosive to They're not as bad as their record. Jake: I'm gonna pick by the record and where they're playing. Well New Orleans is also pretty sucko on their record. Justin: So I'm just gonna pick New Orleans because I think they're just gonna score a lot. I think both teams are gonna score. This will be a high scoring player. They're not supposed to have this defense but it didn't show up this year. They don't have this defense. Josh Norman was a big part. Why is it not Josh Norman? Jake: Because they can't stop the run. They can't stop. Justin: the past they can't stop anything yeah but when you have Josh Norman just like when we had Dorell Rebus in his prime your whole defense gets so much better well then then they let go of this guy for no reason well you want to pay him all right the Giants are hosting Baltimore the Giants are favored by three The Giants are fuckups. So I'm gonna pick Baltimore. Jake: We have not picked one. So I think the Giants are fuckups. But they're a better, I think they're a home team that's better. And Baltimore is terrible. You cannot convince me that they're a good team. So no, I'll pick the Giants. Justin: I agree. I think they're terrible. I also think the Giants are terrible. I don't think they're terrible. I do. I really do. I think they're bad. Jake: I don't think they have character issues too. Well that we know. But I can see this being one of these just, their defense has enough talent that I just
39:04 Jake: don't see. Which one? Justin: The Giants? The Giants has talent. They're all injured. They're all injured. That line hasn't done anything. And all their corners always get hurt. Give me the home team. Okay, that's fine. Philly's going to Washington. Philly is favored by two and a half. Jake: Like Philly like Philly cuz they had a loss and I think that I'm not a Kirk cousin believer I know he said ups and downs and like he's done what I just don't believe in him you like once, too I'm a fan of wins when I've looked at wins by the way Let's have our Ezekiel Elliott talk when I said, oh he looks really good. You know, I based on what is he good Justin: Is he Gio Elliott? I don't know. Jake: Oh, pure he's out. The guy's good. He's like good. I know he's like... You could just watch him have four carries and you're like, ah, he's good. He's behind a great line. He sure is. Is he LaVeon Bell good? I don't know that because I've seen a ton of LaVeon Bell running up and down the field against us. LaVeon Bell's the best. He's the best. Uh, I feel like I think we got about to play this week could be just up there close labia and bells Fucking amazing. All right. It's just cuz he's on your team, but whatever well, he's on this. I'll take Philly Justin: He's not my team. All right four o'clock three of them Oakland is hosting Kansas City Oakland only favored by one here terrible four o'clock Only one of these games like these are great games. Oakland Kansas City is always great division game. It's a great game Always great rivalry do not care about that game Green Bay Dallas I think that we find is the watch have you watched them this year much a little bit incredibly fun I'm gonna take Oakland. I'll take Casey All right, Green Bay is hosting Dallas One of us is gonna pass the other one big time is like Green Bay or we'll just split them down the middle Green Bay is hosting Dallas Green Bay favored by four don't like the four would have liked it better at three Jake: So I'm taking Dallas with the four. I'm gonna take Green Bay at home I feel like this is the get right game. There's too much again too much. It's how to get right game Justin: Yeah, just get right against the Giants and I and I feel like this is the Jake: This is the Dak Prescott. Maybe you're going to see a little rookieism show up. Justin: It's possible. It's not prime time, though. I still haven't really seen. Yeah, I don't know. Again, they're able to really control the game with that line and the running and the short passing. It just works. Dallas is what they're doing right now. I think they have a real. Conundrum on their hands and I don't think it's a it's not even a conundrum Jake: It's just not it's not like Romo's coming back and playing or Romo you're not playing not playing not playing There's no reason to play him. That's just it's just the dumbest thing ever. You've got this Him though got a lightning in a bottle. I know but they put him on the shelf Come on and watch and watch your team go down.
42:01 Justin: All right. Seattle is hosting Atlanta. This might be the best game of the week besides the Monday night matchup. Yeah. And there's a good one in the AFC East two that we just didn't get to yet. This is a good game. Seattle's hosting Atlanta Seattle's favored by six off their by Atlanta can score boy Jake: Oh and versus D number one D against the number one offense and Atlanta's head coach was Seattle's Justin: Defensive coordinator. Yep and knows that defense like if anyone's gonna know where the holes are he's gonna know I'm gonna take the points here. That's six. That's a lot of points for a team. That's four and one to be getting I'll take the points. I'm gonna take Seattle and Jake: at home the oppos off the by at home Just have this feeling they're just gonna I don't think it's me high scoring. I think they're gonna get there's also the Maddy ice factor I'm not a big man Atlanta's just throwing up numbers left and right when they're up against what defenses though, dude, they just score Yeah when they play like Noah They score. Yeah, when they play Seattle in Seattle. They've scored a lot of points. We'll see if they can score against Seattle's defense I'm gonna take the home D against the road. Oh Justin: And then last last minute they've thrown up Fucking sir. They've been in the 40s twice. Yeah, that's a lot. Hey, they put up 23 against Denver Yeah, twin Denver 23 in Denver. So what that is a lot of points to throw up again Jake: I agree and this is a better defense right now it is Better defense is better than Denver's right now it is Justin: I don't think so when Atlanta played Denver when Denver was 3 and 0 and winning with I Think I get it. I still think they'll all right. You're right. Well, how many points will the Atlanta put up? Jake: Let's put a board bet Justin: Over under How about the 23? No, that's too low from Denver. Why is that too low? Too low? Why why is 23 points too low? 25.5 Why is 23 points too low when that's what they put up against Denver? All right 23.5 So over over the threshold of Denver. Yeah, right I think they go over. I'll take the under. We'll come back to that. All right. Houston is hosting Indy. A big matchup in the division I care about. We have see South. So Houston is home. This is our Sunday night game. This is terrible, Sunday night. Fucking terrible game. I'll take any of those three, four o'clock. Over this game. Can we are we boosting yet or we're not relaxing yet. I don't think Although they did do a flex At four o'clock this this week they moved a game this week
45:05 Justin: Into one into from one to four and from four back to one it was I think it was the I think it was the Atlanta Seattle game and There was a game that was supposed to be at one at four o'clock that they moved back to one Feel like it was the Carolina, New Orleans who cares keep going that way. Well, I'm just saying I got used in favor by three I'll take the calls And then we're playing on Monday. So we don't have to pick that one Jake: You know, well, we're gonna pick it right now pick it now as we get the throne picks, right? So how we've been doing in throne picks here. Oh, we didn't do last week. We didn't do last week I think we're tied on the I did call the Justin: Buffalo game though two weeks ago, so I'm very proud of call the Buffalo beating the Brady Jake: I didn't pick them to I mean if anybody picked them to shut them out that would have been Amazing pick seriously Justin: Alright, so we have Starting off we have San Francisco at Buffalo Buffalo favored by seven and a half That's a lot. It's a lot. That's a lot. It's a lot And I seem to recall a game when... I feel as though Rex Ryan doesn't know how to stop gadgety gimmicky. Jake: Defenses or offenses. Sorry. Well, the big news in San Francisco is that Colin Kaepernick is starting They renegotiate his contract to make it so if he gets hurt He still get they don't give him all his money, which is the whole reason he wasn't playing Justin: All this other things right bullshit because he was already hurt and they didn't want him to get hurt more And they would have owned a while to get hurt again because he's running around like a maniac as he will be I like San Francisco to win this game. I like this for two reasons the one I already mentioned I just don't think Rex coaches well against gimmicky read option II type of Offenses right with mobile quarterbacks. I understood. I've seen it too many times where that's Jake: Beaten us the Jets as with Rex sort of coaching it up He does have one of those quarterbacks now though on his team. So maybe he's learned to coach against them Justin: I don't think so and I also think there's a I Think there's a little bit of a Colin Kaepernick. Fuck you thing. He's a concap There's a bump. There's a bump. There's a bump. He's definitely better than Blaine Gabbard Like there's no doubt in my mind that he's better than Blingaber and there's also been so much heaped on him. Right. That I think on the field he's gonna wanna really like be like fuck you all I can still play quarterback. Right. I agree. Yeah. So I like
48:04 Justin: them 2716 I yeah I have it close Jake: I have San Francisco winning 21 20 going for plug there's not in here that's stupid all right well that's Justin: really dumb Dio is out fucking studio all right moving right along Cincinnati is at New England New England you definitely wrote this wrong oh yeah Jake: favored by eight and a half probably time yeah Justin: I like New England in this game. I think they're going to score a lot of points. I think Cincinnati, as we saw, are definitely vulnerable. We should have beaten them. We didn't. The Patriots, when that happens for them, they finish it off. They they do win the games that they're supposed to win. Jake: They make kicks. Justin: Well, I mean, yeah, they make kicks fine, but they also put teams away and don't let them come back. And they're just going to be scoring tons of points the rest of the year. Because they have unstoppable weapons with Bennett and Gronk. Like, how do you cover that? end. Cover like how do you cover that and not allow for just a handoff to go for eight yards? Right cuz like you can't cover them They spread you out, but they spread you out with these big dudes who are way bigger than your little guys but way faster than your big guys and Then the middles wide open to just run It's just, it's 38-8. But I think that New England's defense is really good. And I don't know if Jeremy Hill's all that healthy. I think Cincy's gonna be able to score a little bit more than that. But New England's good at shutting down things and taking away from you. that happened and since you looked like poopy pants Jake: yeah i just think they'll be able i still think new england's gonna win again i don't i think the fuck you tour 2016 continues seriously until they meet us yeah hop our by um but uh yeah the win 34 23 pats Oh, puke in my mouth. Justin: All right, next up. All righty. Next up is we got Pittsburgh traveling to Miami. Miami's getting a boatload of .7.5. That doesn't impact me whatsoever. We pick the same fucking score. Oh wow. That's crazy. That doesn't happen a lot. 3413 Pittsburgh. Because if they're gonna beat us 3113, they're gonna beat Miami 3413.
51:06 Jake: Oh I didn't even think that. I just thought they're gonna score a lot of points and... Tannehill is... although I don't think Pittsburgh's defense is that great, I just don't think Tannehill is at all good. That's how I came with the number. I was like, hmm. You'll have a touchdown and two field goals. That's it. Alright. Game of the Monday night. Yeah, it's the game of the week. It's Monday night. Monday night game we have the prodigy coming back to the prodigal sun returns. The prodigal sun returning. We have bowls, arians. We have Justin: lots of injuries. Wait, let's read these off. All right, so deckers on IR for this season. Done. Well he's on IR, we don't know if he's on IR for the season but he's having surgery and it seems like it's season 8. No, season 8. Okay. Jake: They're talking he might not be back, he might not even be back through all the training camps, all the mini camps. What is wrong with his shoulder? He has a torn shoulder. I just don't know why to- That is not a thing. What is wrong? I don't know, I'm not a fucking doctor. He's out for the season, he might be ready to go by training camp next year. Not minicams. Wow Justin: Yeah shoulder injury Come on. Let's go. Well, I want to know what it is Like cuz cuz there is like precedent for like what kind of injury is doesn't matter Jake: All right, I'm playing on the Jets for 2016. It doesn't matter Justin: We can talk about it next year cuz it doesn't well, he's still on the team. You want him to come back Jake: I understand but he's not gonna play a down this year. All right, Reavis Very light practice. Yes. That's not good. I hope he plays. We need him. Justin: We need him. I mean, we need him. R- Yes, because the other guys are small and fast and just run straight down the field 27 go cover that guy And then they got Larry Fitz. I mean, maybe he can cut it fits. I mean, he was just fine in there. He's comfortable. He's done that. He's covered like West Welker in his prime, whatever, but Fitz is really. A slot receiver now. Yeah, he is big. ballot. All right, so hopefully Rufus plays but we'll see David Harris also Likely to not play although did not play I thought he was practicing I wouldn't put it past him to play but I didn't think he was practicing
54:03 Justin: Don't know I thought he was I wouldn't put it past him now same thing with mangled Jake: Oh, that was yesterday unable to practice Jets Rebus mangle hair is still out of practice now that I'm yeah I don't know if these guys are gonna play unless he's just giving them an extra rest day Cuz I have a big players to not be playing. Oh, it's okay. It's Mondays. They, they have the extra day What for whatever that's worth? We have to fly all the way across the country So we'll know if they even get on a plane because sometimes I leave people or hurt sometimes hopefully Justin: Yeah, they usually they leave guys with like concussions home because they shouldn't get on airplanes, right? But You know your legs bothering you you can get on a plane. I Would hope they'd go anyway That's bad news bears all three of those guys not playing Jake: Oh and and losing ours really bad our number two receiver for the season. Yeah, so you have Jalen Marshall's back Justin: as a thing here and I don't know if that's positive or negative. It's positive because we just cut Ross again. Well that's because Jalen Marshall's coming back. Jake: Because Jalen Marshall's coming back and then we picked up. We pick up another receiver? Yeah, we picked up the receiver from Baltimore. Justin: Crap. I did throw up on my team. A guy from Baltimore? Yeah, I agree. Jake: That doesn't excite me. It doesn't have to excite you. It's not an exciting thing. It's just a, uh, uh, Jeremy Butler. Yeah, Justin: I don't care. Yeah. Jeremy. Right now we have, we have Marshall, the good one. Then we have We have Anuma, yes, and then we have Jalen Marshall, Robbie Anderson. and then this butler character Jake: and then this butler character Justin: and uh... the rookie the peak that's right peaks probably number five Jake: and where is the, what's his face, he was hurt last year's first round, second round pick Justin: Devin Smith. Oh God. Well, he's on pub. So he's got to wait six weeks, six weeks, next week and come off. And then you have to decide, I think, within three weeks what to do with the person. He and Jack Meaney. Wow. I didn't even think of Devin Smith. That's how far off the radar he's been for me. Jake: But he would be a big help. Let's just talk a little bit. Jeremy Bauer. Just because he's a guy they just picked up to like kind of help out. This third season, 25 years old, 6'2", 213. He has some size. Yep. He's right. So he played for the Ravens last year. Played in eight games. Lost 363 yards. Averaged 11.7.
57:03 Jake: Let's see... No touchdowns. So he's... Justin: Yeah, I need to like see a receiver before I know if like I'm okay with the guy or not. Jake: He's a body. He's, a body to put out there. But okay. So what trickies the castle to win this fucking game? I'm not looking at your score. Oh, okay. Alright, at least you did that. Justin: Yeah, at least I was winning right? I could have bad as losing this one Jake: All right There's really no reason to think that we will win this game. That's the joke. There's no reason. We're fans and I'm going to pick the jets to win because I want them to win. I don't pick against the jets ever. Here's the deal. But there's no reason to think that we should win this game. But sometimes that's the way that's the way to deal it. It's like there's no reason to win, but you figure it out. Here's the here's the give me the key to the castle. Justin: Arizona throws deep. more than anyone right in the NFL they go deep and The only way to be able to do that time in the pocket is if you have time because their quarterback is a statue right and Their quarterback has torn his ACL twice And he does not like it when guys are all like mumbled in there floating around Right hitting them getting around his legs. He gets a little antsy in his pantsy so We need to be able to get all up in Carson Palmer's face and rattle him a little because he's actually not that good no he's not he had a great season last year just like Fitz but he is also regressed back to the mean to where he belongs to quote smart people and he's not very good so if you can Take their big play down the field bullshit out of the equation. Jake: Which is our number one weakness. Justin: Which is our single biggest weakness, but I think the way to do it is through pressure, not through coverage. Jake: Right, so actually throw some blitzes in there. Justin: Like, let's get after this guy. Jake: You know we haven't been blitzing very much this year. It's stupid. Justin: Don't get it last year. We were butts in it's more than anybody now. We're not blitzing it This is why it's not helping with the coverage. This is why coaching Jake: This is why the coaching thing is not is why I'm a little pissed is like where the fuck what what fucking got in there Philosophy how did that how'd you where'd you lose right philosophy? I don't know so you these fast fucking linebackers these rookies like Lee and and and and and Send in fucking, um... Well Buster Screen used to blitz off the slot constantly. Justin: Alright, so that's my key. Um... We've also got to run the ball a little bit. Take a little air out of the ball. 2019. Jake: Good guys. So, my key, again, if you stack up what this team is, right?
1:00:02 Jake: So, they're at home, they're good at home. They're on Monday night. They play in the big games. They know how to do that. They've got a quarterback who likes to throw deep and they're good at throwing it deep. They've got a running back who's second or third best running back in the league right now. He's elusive. He goes out. He can catch the ball. And he's hard to fucking tackle. I think we're gonna look back in a couple years and look at David Johnson and be like, holy shit, that guy. He's very good. everything and then we have always missing players, always missing pieces. Everything in this is for us to just get our asses handed to us on a Monday night disaster. I think first and foremost, cause of most things you have to bottle up David Johnson. I agree, you gotta get the Carson. But you won't get to Carson if that guy's taken off eight in yard chunks. That is definitely fair They're not even at the throat. They'll just handed David Johnson He'll run eight yards and that'll be it it'll be second and two and who cares though It fits across the middle where we're fucking weak, right? So I don't think they'd even need to do this down the field shit But if we could get them to shut them down a little bit and I think our one our one maybe super secret maybe can possibly put it through, right? Our one secret. We have a secret? Yeah. Secret weapon? It's the head coach. This guy should know this team. He should. He should know this offense. He should. He should know. He doesn't know David Johnson because he wasn't there for him. But he should know their tendencies. and he should be able to game plan around it a little bit. He should know what they're going to do on defense a little bit. Justin: He knows the personnel, that's for sure. He knows the personnel's weaknesses. That's the big thing. If you know that... We know Patrick Peterson and Brandon Marshall are going to be in a battle. Oh yeah. So if you can go over to Brandon and say hey Brandon, I coach that guy for a couple years and He's susceptible to this. He's gonna talk to Ryan, right? And you get the two of them together and you say he can be beaten if you do this in the first quarter You'll get them on something later. So let me ask you a question last year Fitzpatrick's best game. What was it? I'll top your head Jake: It's his best game last year. Yes. What was his best game last year? I Don't know 10 wins. What was the win that you thought? Like was the best win? Yeah, just that you thought this guy played out of his mind. Justin: I mean, when we beat the Pats, he played really well in week 16. I think he played really well against the Dolphins both times we beat them. I don't know. Is there is there more to this? Jake: Yeah, he has to play above that level. Oh, OK. He's he has to play.
1:03:01 Jake: Not average fits, not secondary backup fits, not seven teams and seven years fits. He has to play fits magic type fits magic. And we have to have a couple things go away. Our turnover ratio is terrible. And when we get the ball, we can't do anything with it. So The way to win this game is really through a lot of things. And this is where football is like, how does the football play? A lot of things going our way. We have to win a few. We have to get a few turnovers. Carson Palmer will throw turnovers and he can throw. And he actually is one of those quarterbacks that if he gets into a spin, he can actually start to throw them out of his ass. Like you'll start to throw two or three. Tom Brady throws one. He's not gonna throw another one, that game. He's just not gonna do it. But Carson Palmer can throw the three in a game. So we have to get to that turnover and I think and really shut down David Johnson to start Because we're not at a high level with a long ladder. We're going to have to do great work. We're probably going to lose during the game. I mean, we're going to have to do great work. We're going to have to have a high level and long ladder. We're going to need to handle this and we're going to have to have some sort of and know that we can come out and dominate them again. So that's my Key of the Castle. I think we win, hard to say, 31-29, just up and down the field. And the defense is good. It's not as good as it was last year.
