19 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast, longest running New York Jets Podcast. ever on the planet. I'm Jake, joining me 286 times in a row. It's Justin. Justin, how you doing, man? Um, I'm all right, I guess... You're a little fucking pissed that the dolphins go out lay a goose egg last night and yet had the fucking wherewithal to come back and beat up and... Come down from 14 points down and beat us like I'm pissed like we should have won that game Yeah, we had him on the hook. We let him off the hook. We should have won the game We definitely I mean we definitely shouldn't have lost it the way we lost it Meaning like it should have at least went to overtime. No, no kill or instinct Should have at least went over time but The fact of the matter is that, as we were discussing last night, while we were watching the first half of the Fins game together and saying, Oh, my God, this memoir is fucking terrible, terrible. Well, first of all, I I felt as though we were making Jay Cutler look terrible. And great. That's because we game planned for J Cutler. And like when a guy comes in and you're not, they're running a couple of different things and you don't know exactly what they're doing. It's kind of throws you off when the backup comes in and they're like a competent backup. But then you see he's a backup because he's a competent backup. He's not a starter. When you start a- when you start a- when Matt Moore's a starter, and you get to game plan for him, especially in a short week on the road, like in Baltimore at night, which is a really hard place to play, yep, he's gonna get crushed, and he did. I mean, really crushed. 40 to nothing. That's as bad as it gets, pretty much. You scored zero, they scored 40. Yeah, yeah, I saw the back of quarterback in the second right all that hit on frickin wacko Well, Kiko Alonzo came in and just knocked his fucking face off. Yeah, he was sliding. He's giving himself up It was bad as a bad hit. I'm surprised they didn't I mean two things was we're watching the game one I'm surprised I didn't throw him out. Yeah, he should have been. He should have been injected. And two, there was a lot of afteractivity that was completely legal and should have been thrown penalties too. And Darmakinsu can wait for a letter where he's going to have to pay at least 50 grand. Right. Because he's him. Yeah. And this has happened before with him. It might be 100 grand. But it was the so the. Alonzo hit him and then the guy, the Falcons, the Ravens guy came over and slammed Pico. And then two came over. And that's, no, he should.
01 Jake: I feel like that's fine. Like if an offensive lineman sees a linebacker take the quarterback's helmet off, an offensive lineman, in my opinion, is well within their right to go over and shove the shit out of defend them. You know, you don't have to throw punches, but throw them down, right? Push them off, push them off, throw them, do whatever. Kiko's helmet came off. He's drawn at the coach. He should have been out of the game. He should have been out. I don't understand the NFL. How is that not even like? I mean, is there that penalty where like, another one of these and you're out? It wasn't even that. I don't, I don't sometimes. I think, well, I think, I I think the NFL will come back and say, yeah, I mean, they don't generally say they'd made mistakes with NFL like even that, but they, they'll get graded and their grade will be bad. I think it's interesting now that crews- I think the crews now stay together through regular season and playoffs they actually switch them up Yeah, that's like there's yeah, but there's like they were doing this the other day, which this is again I don't think this is right in the NFL On one of these, you know show that they're like, I think I know you're like this crew Yeah, they throw a lot of flaps they throw they they don't care about pass interference as much as this other crew Right don't but this was like dude, it's a fucking panel shouldn't it just I just like This is where I want to just be a computerized thing. It's like, I just want to be right. It's either always right or not, but like this sort of like, well, sometimes I look at this and sometimes this and this crew throws a lot of flags. So then can you game plan for the crew? Hey guys, remember this crew throws a lot of flags. Remember this crew will let you bang the fuck out of somebody. You know what, you probably. Good throws too. Some nice passes. Hit Jer. Jermaine. scored towards the end of the half and we were up 21-14 we then went up 28-14 Going into the fourth quarter and you're like, all right, we got two touchdown league going into the fourth quarter We got a backup quarterback in there. All right defense lock this down and it didn't couldn no killer and I know a lot of the blame I'm sure from your side is gonna be like and Well deserved like dude, you can't throw a pick that drive in the last like it with under a minute left with timeouts throw over the middle of the field safe throws safe throws and he throws a pick
02 Jake: it's and the game's over it's the difference between a good quarterback and a bad quarterback and it wasn't even that It was the three or. Four drives that he couldn't just do good teams get on when they got five minutes left and they're up by seven. Let's take some time off the clock. Like let's drive down to the end of the least get a field goal. I mean, our often drive. It's not built to like take time off clock. Don't run well, but well, okay. I understand that, but it's, but it's interesting because it's a lot of like the players like, Oh, the offense is really good. And this is great game plan. Yeah. but it It can't, it's always these long, third and longs. We don't run well. Our third down conversion ratio in that game was terrible. We can't keep a stay on the field. Sure, we can make one or two big plays and maybe get down there. And we were given a gift, not given. Jamal Adams had a great play and Wilkerson picked up. Wilkerson had his best game this season. He picked it up, we're at the ones, we score again. That's great, but like... I just I'm so sick of watching this guy come in and just and just you just know we can't do it I'm complaining about why because none of the other guys are doing it either. So what other guys? Anyone you throw behind there. They're not doing it. No one doing anything. Do it quarterback's a bad situation That's just deal with that Stop playing 38 year old backups. Start playing young guys so we can see what they do. That's it. That's the answer. Stop playing 38 year old backups, trying to win a couple more games. Like get out of your own way. Just fucking play the young guys. I don't know who they are. I think. Literally go on the fucking waiver wire and pick up some guy cut. and and he had a terrible game, you said over and over again, because I have every podcast, you really can't evaluate a quarterback until he's played at least three years. And then you see a guy play for four games and he sucks. I agree. I mean, hey, was... He Sucked! He sucked. He did until he got good coaching and then he got he grew into it. And well, now he played for Harbaugh and Andy Reid, two really good quarterback coaches. Great. So I just don't think the story is real. And the Niners like let him go. Yeah. For Kaepernick. Yeah. Who's not even playing. Well, we'll see. Is Kaepernick good? Whatever. I don't think he's good. Anyway, the point is I've seen Kaepernick. Light up the light up the scoreboard win on the playoffs on the road and get to a Super Bowl Which I think he played he had like this perfect storm of like he was the running quarterback when that
06 Jake: Still worked in the NFL still works Tyra Taylor's lip ripping it up. Yeah, but he can throw He can really can throw he can be a pocket Passer Kaepernick wasn't I don't I don't I think he he regrets that's it I thought he had this trajectory that was gonna be good. No, you're a grass He did a lot of that, you know read option stuff and he had a great running game and they could just I mean remember that playoff game he ran for like 150 yards. Yeah Packers. Yeah, that's not happening anymore Quarterbacks aren't doing that. I mean not happen two three years ago. Cam was doing that, you know I would agree it's not happening as much, but there's still core back to scramble. Yeah I, I'm gonna throw out because because the defense is a little adjust to that and be like, alright, that's not fucking happening You got to throw the ball now Yes, I agree. Let's talk about the game. Okay, so Let's just pick your fool the game. What's actually impressed the press impressed the press any anybody impress Everybody depressed because we lost pretty depressing impressed I mean, Mowelk, he impressed. He played a good game. I thought, I thought while Powell had a pretty decent game, for what it's worth, like for the touches he had, like coming off of an injury, he ran the ball. He was our leading rusher. He also had a couple of good screen pass catches. He played fairly well. Damario Davis, I thought had a pretty decent game in terms of impressing and then Forte had actually a pretty good game. Yeah, okay in the receiving game target I got to try a little more with the running like they give up on it I also don't like them going away like four days back and they kind of just only just actually see do they actually how Much how many runs he got? Yeah, three attempts for seven yards. I feel like Maguire is the young guy with, he's the guy who has a little, he's the one who can break one. Yeah, I know Powell can break one. Fourteen, breaking anything. But Maguire, I feel like, they say it all the time and maybe it's just one of those things they say. You gotta like get them going. You gotta give them like four. So to give someone three carries and be like, well, they didn't do very well. Well, you gave them three carries. Like, get them going. Like leave them in for series. Like, get them, get them, you know, into the, the running of the game. Imp Sunday, rush defense. Sure. I mean, Jai-Jai, which is funny because we were watching last night and we're talking about it. And we were in a fantasy league where there's some big trades happening and my wife traded away Jai-Jai for like a bag of peanuts. And then the person who got him traded him immediately. For another bag of peanuts. He had traded twice this week to play on Thursday night, which is weird. It's weird. And then he got, I don't know, what did he end up with? Oh, nothing. Nothing. And we were watching and I was like, and I turned to you and I'm like, is he good? Yeah. Because looking at him with the naked eye, if you take away the name, and he has this bill that just looks like he's like, going to like, break a Mark Charlie bill.
02 Jake: Well, he looks like Todd Gurley. He looks like... You remind me of Ricky Williams, I don't know, because of the same team with the hair and whatever, but you just feel like... You know, he has the big running back build. And I've seen him steal people. I said, I think there's a couple of things. I think he might be good. And last year might not have been a fluke, but they had a better offensive line last year. They'd better quarterback last year, whatever you might think. It's an hill. He's better than Butler and he's better than more. They had more receiving weapons last year because Vante Parker Parker. He's out. He's been out. And I think the line has a lot to do with it, right? Like Tunsell, who they drafted, like is now playing left tackle. He didn't even play tackle. He was playing guard last year. So like now he's like their number one. And he's clearly not as good as green was last year. Nope and Presses that you remember they left tackle for once you about that's impressive um Look at that and secondly like all right. There's all that and Deep defenses now are like okay that guy's He's their weapon. We have to stop him if we stop him we can stop the dolphins, right? And then there's the okay fine that's all going against him and then he had a run last night That we both saw it was like a nice Draw play where he had a huge hole and he hit the hole and it looked like oh boy This could be a big play and a corner steps up The corner trips, throws out an arm. literally trips, throws his arm out, and like, with one arm, just sort of hits one of his legs and he just falls. Right. And we're like, well Chris Ivory would have run right through that. Anybody. Or really any decent running back. I was, I looked at you, I'm like, Le'Veon Bell doesn't even get touched on that. Forget, like, going down. Like a good running back either runs through that or just jumps over it or whatever. Well, I've now seen him play in three, like three or four games. I've watched the games and talking about Jay Jay. Well, because it's part of the game, we were to shut him down twice. I mean, averaging 2.2. Like that's that's that's like sit like go sit down somewhere. Yeah. Well, you saw what happened when the other guys stepped in last night. They just blitz them. And oh, my God, he couldn't pick up the blitz. They were just killing him. Anyway, so, so in, depressed, I mean, and I know, I know some, you get into a thing, you get a bad game, but Buster Screen man, like he had just penalty after fucking penalty after penalty. And it was just getting so fucking hard to watch him just getting torched out there. He is, he is not the answer. ... If there's a question, well, maybe the question is, if you want to get a lot of penalties... He's in concussion. I don't think he's playing this week. Yeah, 12 penalties for 124 yards. Yeah, and Screen is... He's a penalty machine because he doesn't turn his head ever. Like, he had guys covered. There was one play in particular. He... Like, there were three guys. Like, the safeties were converging.
00 Jake: There's no way a guy was catching the ball. Actually, it might have been an interception if Screen didn't do what he did. And he saw that like, you know, the corners kind of read the eyes of the receiver and if the receiver is turning their head, they like can see like, oh, the ball is coming. And instead of turning his head and like looking for the ball, he just jumped and like tackled the dude. And that's like not the right thing to do, especially when you like Adams is like standing next to you essentially. Right. So. He depressed and Darren Lee was depressing. I mean, his name was called a lot, which means he was doing a lot of good things. Like he was around the ball a lot. Yeah, but at the same time, like when he did good things, he got penalized like he had a sack and was like, whoa, Darren Lee middle linebacker off the edge. Sack but 15 yard penalty cuz he hit him in the head, right? It's like dude just fucking I don't write But I don't mind that I mean, I don't know I do mine that one I know the fucking fundamental that is right and then second He tackled a jive behind the line on another play where it was like whoa That was a sweep on the edge and he's a middle linebacker who got out there, but fucking face mask like right, bro like that's five these are five 10 yard negatives that turn into 15 yard pod those are 20 yard swings on a drive where it's like come on man you're like almost there yeah i i don't like that's a maturity thing or like he just doesn't have the fundamentals or what it is but like come on bro Get it right. You can't win games when you can't stay on the field. And you can't win games when you're getting huge penalties. I mean, it's like all those things. Like what loses games? Well, those are like 20 yard plays that should have been negative 5, negative 10 yard plays. I hear you. Those are like, you know, that's crazy. Alright, so, in press, deep press, why don't you pick your fool of the game? I'm gonna pick mine first. You go first. And it's just, I know it's a thing, but it's an immaturity thing, and I just can't stand it, is Robbie Anderson. There's penalties of trying to make a play. Like you try to make a play and you hold somebody or you fucking hold them, you smash their head or whatever. You're trying to make a play. But then there's plenty of penalties of idiocy. And when the game was not, it was not still on the line, there was still like, you know, you're trying to make something when a young fucking guy takes off his helmet and throws it off, throws it down the field while the game's still going on. Like that shows that A, he... Robbie Anderson, he took off his field towards the end and he literally took off his helmet and whipped it down the field and we got a huge penalty on it. When? At the end of the game. Well, what do you mean at the end? When at the end of the game? At the end of the game when we were trying to drive at the end of the game. When we were trying to drive at the end of the game?
02 Jake: Yes, at the... On what drive? Is the drive. I don't remember it. It was the drive before he did the pick. It was that pick. drive. He might have done it after he got picked. It doesn't matter. He got penalized for throwing his helmet. Okay. Which I just is like, don't like don't do that. I was kind of watching on TiVo. So as soon as he threw that pick, I kind of just like was like, fuck this. And I just fast forwarded to watch the field goal. So there you go. So that's the point. I just can't stand that kind of shit. Because A, that doesn't say a lot about head coach. Head coach, you got to control it because it was a penalty. We actually got penalized and not that You know, not that that was the thing that lost the game, it certainly wasn't. To me, you have to be able to drive and take time off the clock when you're ahead. And if you can't do that, you're not going to be able to win. Because that means your defense is on again, and that means your defense gets, you know, whatever. So I'm going to give it to Robbie Anderson. I'll give it to, um, I gotta give it to Buster. Yeah, that's easy. It's a really bad game. Just bad. It's not the veteran out there that's supposed to know what to find. And his game before was not bad. He's very inconsistent. You know what's going to happen. He's not going to play this week because he's got the concussion. And the concussion happened during the game. And then they didn't even report it until Monday. So good job. Job NFL good job Jets good job independent fucking whatever right this guy's a concussion He's running around the field making mistakes. I wonder why right so good job on you guys and then I Mean these these penalties are awful. He's supposed to be the guy that Has been there for now all of bowls like they brought him in with bowls. He's supposed to know this system He's supposed to be the guy on the inside and sort of you got a lot of youngsters on that in that secondary Tons who's two young safeties and they're both playing better than buster screen. Yeah and This week we'll see what happens because roberts who am I like 27? Yep He's gonna... I think... Isn't that the guy last season? We're like, who the fuck is 27? Maybe, but I like him. He's good this year. That was when we said all the others here. So I think he's gonna move inside to the screen roll. And Burris is gonna start outside who hasn't played in a couple of weeks. Right. He's been playing on special teams, but he really hasn't been playing on defense because Roberts has taken his place. and term answer is you got to build up. First and make him I think you're I think all right They're gonna have to know that one you gotta go you're gonna grab one and like the Giants did go get Jenors Jen gaps go get chromatic. They're gonna get I get a new one next year. Yeah All right, this was a inexpensive rental right? I mean next year we have because it's been weird
00 Jake: They have to spend money a hundred million dollars a lot of money. All right, let's go around the kingdom Okay, that's where I read off some scores And then I asked a question. Yes. I love this around the kingdom. It's my favorite. All right Raiders on Thursday night When they came to play Over the Chiefs. Did you see the end of that game? I did I was I saw them I saw that I was up watching it really. Oh, yeah, and the end was like silly. It was sick. Yeah, they had Basically, they had like three chances at the end of the Are the are the Raiders back in contention for that Raiders are good. They're good team with three and four They're a good team. No, okay. They are and the Chiefs, aren't that bad either It's just you know bills beat the Bucks. Are you scared of the bills? We have a chance. Yeah, I'd be scared of the bills. I think the bills are decent. I think they might for 20 years. I think. I mean, they have a quarterback. They have a defense. the fucking dolphins. The Vikings are a pretty good team. It doesn't seem to matter who quarterbacks that team. Jesus, I don't even know. We talked about Jez Dauphin. Braggford. Rams shut out Cardinals. Palmer broken arm out for not the whole season. He could be out for like six to eight weeks. Former jet Drew Stanton. Rams make playoffs this year. I think they might win that division. Jesus Christ. Are the Cardinals done? Yeah. Done and done her. Yeah, with the back of quarterback. Stanton. And I know that they're old too. They're an old team. Titans barely win one against the Browns who have a good defense. They're all in seven. How are you feeling about your Titans now? I like my Titans. You like your Titans? I like my Oda. I feel like they can run the game, run the ball. And I feel like they have some weapons that people don't really respect. 49ers take out the four sorry Cowboys take up 49ers behind the woodshed and just beat them like a drum. That was their worst loss of the year. They're that they and Cleveland Zee still playing he's just gonna play the whole season. He's gonna keep he's gonna keep playing. Who you most impressed with on the Cowboys right now? Are they in contention I think they're gonna get there. I think they're rounding into shape. I think Prescott is super impressive Chargers shut out the Broncos. Yeah Broncos starting really hot now like losing. Yes, Simeon not good
01 Jake: Yeah, you whiffed on Paxton Lynch too because if he's not he's not even the backup Like they brought back the cock. Rock the cock. Did that cock start this week? I ahh, I don't think so. I think they'll give Simi one more shot but like we whiffed on in the same draft we whiffed on Hackenberg. At least that's a second round whiff. Still wish I'd see him play. Fine. Give me three games to watch him play at least. How would you feel if you're a Broncos fan and you have this guy sucking as a seventh rounder? And you've got a first round pick who. Who hasn't taken a shot. Well, they think you've a shot. They give you a shot last year. They play games. They started games because of injury. I know I know. I mean, came back. I just don't understand like why he couldn't win that out in the put in the preseason, like how could this get because he's not good. Apparently not like that means they really missed. Ste R's. Go and beat the rivals. Bengals. Bengals said overtime thing. Brown the the this this the stinging bees are back. Yeah, maybe they play killer great killer bees Brown and Bell Unstoppable man Steelers got that division locked. I think so. Yeah pretty much see Hawks Destroy I guess 24 7 that's pretty bad the Giants the Giants couldn't move the ball How many more games does Giants win this year? Oh, no Two, three, I don't know their schedule, but they don't look very good. Yeah, their offense is super inept. In the Sunday night debacle in the Super Bowl rehash rematch, which wasn't much of a meme rematch. Did you watch? I watched half of it. Did you watch the second half? No. It was so cool because... the game had to be broadcast by that camera that's sitting up behind the quarterback. Yeah. On the, uh, on the cable. Because he couldn't see anything else. one. Yeah, but it was tighter than that. Yeah, you all 22 very wide where you can see the entire field kind of. This was very tight. It was like the Madden view. So you're like right behind the quarterback and it's like, oh, my God, you can see the holes opening up for the running game. You can. They should experiment with that a little more, because once you got used to is really cute. Future is is you'll just choose. You'll just say, I want this angle, this angle. Once you, it took like a driver to to get used to. But once you got used to it, man, was it cool. Patriots defense. Are they, have they figured out their, figured out their problems? They've done pretty well. It's about the time of the year where the Patriots start to like. turn into the Patriots. And then Eagles go in, beat the Redskins, which, you know, I don't know where the Redskins are, three and three. Eagles are six and one. Yeah, they seem to be the class of the NFC at the moment. They kind of are. And they have a really good quarterback. He's good. He still makes some stupid mistakes.
00 Jake: Yeah, he does still second year quarterback things, but he has real... physical talent. But interesting the story on those two if you said last year and you said Goff and Wentz you go Wentz definitely the better guy this year you're looking at like well the Rams. I still 100% Rams are five and two. I'm still 100% Wentz. They have one of the highest scoring offenses there So and that guy's back there. That's what put Todd Gurley on the Eagles. He's not Shcherbinski Put tag girly on the Eagles and watch them be the highest scoring. Well, that is true. All right. Well, let's move on to our next segment. The pick them. Let's. All right. So we got our we got it. It's not like either of them have like receiving weapons either. Like the Eagles golf has more receiving weapons. Yeah. I've seen them both play. Wens to me looks like way ahead. He looks like a quarterback. Well they played him last year. Golf still looks very, well they, golf played for half the year last year. Yeah, but they played Wens from the beginning. They gave him the start and they said, here are the guy. Yeah, he won the job. I know. Case Keenum. Won the job. I just don't I like Case Kingdom winning in Minnesota like he's not the worst But he's a perennial back. He's probably better than the count Alright, so we're gonna pick everything but they have ceased in our checking them pick them series Let's see who's doing better in the series right now last night's game because you're an idiot So right now we have Gareth's terrible picks at 58. Fuck you Gareth. And then Ozjet's at 57, rebuild mode at 55, and I'm at 54. 54 and 49. Number fourth place, I'm liking it. Let's see, did I actually do a thing last week? I'm at 48, right? Yeah, you're sucking. Alright. Um, did I pick the right thing? I did not! I picked my IME. So it doesn't matter what I picked in the air we both we definitely both. So, yeah, first game. I mean, whatever we already talked about at Baltimore beat Miami 40 zero. All right. Let's move on. Why shut out? Yeah. So I showed this year. There's been quite a few. Not even a field goal. Yeah, nothing. They missed the field goal. They missed one, but it missed it early. But in the second half, like you can't hit a fucking field goal. You don't even go for it. I mean, you're down 20, nothing. I think there's a mentality of getting shut out. Like literally 40 to 30. Yeah. Well, that's what the Niners did. They didn't want to get shut out. So they kicked the field goal. But after you kick the field, then you just start trying to score a touchdown. Anyway, London game. I actually love learning games on the morning that I'm there, but on a game that I'm going to the game, like I can't watch this. Well, yeah, there is a jet game this week at home, which means we can't wake up and just start watching football. Right, which I would love to do. Oh my god, yeah. That's the best. Let me start at 9.30 and just go. All the way through like midnight, right? Yeah, exactly. Uh, the wives love it. All right. So, Minnesota at Cleveland in London. Yep. Um, Minnesota favored by 10 and a half Cleveland. You told me last night, which actually made me change this pick.
01 Jake: Uh, it's 10 and a half Minnesota favored Cleveland flying out Friday. Yeah, they're going to treat it like a normal game. Like a normal game. Not an international game. There's no time zone issue at all. Don't care. Zero fucks to give. Because 930 a.m., which is when the game starts, by the way. And you know, you get there like at least two hours before as a player. Right. 730 a.m. You know, our time. Yeah. That's when they're going to like get to the stadium. Yeah. That's so fucked. Yeah. I mean, unless you're thinking like, well, we practice at that time, but that's not when you play games. I think what they're saying, I think, well, A, they could give zero fucks. And they're saying, we're gonna leave our coach there so we don't give a fine fuck. And I think they're like, let's just try it. Like, hey, the other two teams didn't take the bye after. I don't think it worked out for either one of them. No, it didn't. Right, they both got. Beat coming back home and now they're gonna try the legs over a couple like days early and now it's right Fucking toilet paper with us. Yes I think there's like fuck. This is not an international thing. We're just flying out It's just three hours more than going to you know, like going across the country is like a big time zone And you're playing at 9 30 a.m. They write time there Clock yeah your clock time and it hasn't adjusted and you can't possibly sleep well the night before here's the thing So you're picking Minnesota? I'm picking Cleveland because their defense has been playing pretty good They got they got the Titans to stick to 12 points. Yeah, that's good. Minnesota's way better I don't think also Minnesota's defense will probably score a touchdown. I just feel like it's gonna be a close game All right 1720 or 1312 or whatever. I don't see this being close. All right. All right Let's move on. Yeah, yeah move on. How many fours do we have? One, two. Just two? And does that blow? Yeah, there's like six by week. Two, four. The command center doesn't work. At least one of them is a good one. Actually both of them are good. So the command center will work. Oh yeah, two good games. Two good games. All right, so let's move on. All right. Cincinnati is hosting Indy. Indy sucks. Since he sucks. Since, he is favored by 12. That's too much because since he's not very good. So I'm going to take India just for the 12. I feel like since you'll win by seven, I'm going to take India. That's just 12 too much. It's a lot. It's a lot for a bad team. You just leave like a, you leave like that thing where like, but you might come down there and throw it. No, they're not. All right. New Orleans is hosting Chicago. New Orleans is favored by 10. I think that's too many. I know New Orleans. questions. To my surprise is actually a good team. Yeah, but Chicago plays these close games and they score in weird ways and Their defense was doing all the scoring last week. Yeah, their defense is really fucking good So 10 points to be giving to a team with a really good defense is a lot So I'm gonna take Chicago. It's a lot of Trub, attempt like
02 Jake: I'd love it. I'll take Chicago and good special teams. Alright so then we got... San Francisco. They're huge. It's a... what is it? Five and one team, six and one team, five and one. Yeah, versus an oh and whatever. Right. I'm going to take San Francisco because up until last week, they've played every single game they played was a one score game. So I feel as though they can sort of hang and then they lose in the fall. They're going to start that quarterback that. Whoever blood brethren are probably then no I'll take Philly Philly will destroy them. It could be 40 to 0 We just saw it happen. I'll take Philly at San Francisco They're gonna be that crowd is gonna be insane. They're like they're getting hyped up It's a division game. And Tampa's favored by one, and I'm gonna take Tampa. I think they'll win this one. Tampa man, they played the Bills tough. I can't again, but Carolina... Bills are tough to read. Carolina is an enigma. They're both tough teams to read. This team went into New England and beat the Patriots. I know, they're like so hard to read. And in some game, they've scored three points. Like, what is... I just don't get it. And so I'm gonna pick Tampa because I think they're at home, and I don't know. I don't know. I just... I can't tell which Carolina team's gonna show up, so I'm gonna assume that the bad one's gonna show up. Although this would be their bounce back week. They've had like every other,, the week they play well. Next up, weird, very strange if you ask me, whatever. Seattle's hosting Houston. Seattle favored by five and a half. This is our first four o'clock game, by the way. Good game. Yeah. Good game. Is the Seattle's offense is not very good now. So five and a half is too much for me because Houston. Really good test for Watson. Yep Great. Good defense and Seattle has an issue with that. Seattle will probably win because they win at home But it'll be super close to the city like that. And 13. 13. I mean, what's the most effective but I Can't see it against this particular team if he walks out of this with a win on the road I'll be like very now Now I'm like I think you're real like there's been a lot of games and he's been playing well I haven't seen him play like a full game. I'll be watching this game throws bombs. He does You know if Sherman Sherman doesn't get beat deep very often And if you know like the deal they're gonna throw deep you have Sherman on one side and those safeties Yeah, that's pretty tight. I think I'll take Houston too because I just feel like it's gonna be close somehow. All right
00 Jake: We agree Dallas at Washington Washington, home dog, I'm gonna take them. One point. I'll take the point. No. No, I think Dallas is on a roll. They're just, they're... They are three and three. But they're getting better. I get it. But Washington's a decent team too. Yeah. Aren't they three and three? Are they? I think they are. Yeah. So? Yeah, I. I'll take Dallas. To me these are evenly matched teams. I'm gonna take Washington. I think Dallas has more. Talent on their team. Okay, uh Sunday night Pittsburgh at Detroit good game In my opinion, yeah, yeah good teams evenly matched I think By I think yes and Detroit home dog. Give me the give me the points at home. Yeah, I'm a table home I mean these are these there's nothing why would why is Pittsburgh that much better than Detroit? So I'm gonna take Detroit with the two and a half. I agree me too and then Monday night I mean usually these two teams play very good games and Kansas City really just crushes. They're not gonna lose three or other and be fired up. They've got their rival coming in. So, gimme Kansas City, I'll lay the eight. I don't care. I'll take the eight. I just don't see it. I didn't shut out like I don't think it'll happen Monday night. Give me the give, give me that All right. All right moving on. Sorry, let. Make our throne picks here how'd we do last week I was one and two you and two and one oh what'd you get you got the oh right knowing on 28 to three so that So, starting out this week, I mean, I already picked Baltimore to be Miami 40 to zero, so I got that one. Oh, okay. No, you can't put that in. I did. I put it in. I won. No, damn you. All right. Um, Oakland is at Buffalo and, uh, Buffalo is favored by two and a half points over Oakland. And while Buffalo is surprising 4-2, I just don't think that they're that good. I think this will be a fairly high scoring game. 24-23, Oakland. Oakland to win in Buffalo. Yeah, I just think they're a good team. I think they're better than Buffalo. Oh, they will have a little bit of trouble with. Buffalo's running game because Oakland's defense isn't that great, but Oakland's going to be able to score on Buffalo. So I think it's 2423.
00 Jake: That's my I don't I don't see it. I think Buffalo, they they're just going to play a really good game. I could see them getting. Yeah, I think they have a defense good. I think them being at home. They play much much better at home I don't like Oakland coming all the way across Yeah, I don't know that it is still a thing to make it still I think Buffalo wins this 2723 the All right, New England is hosting the Los Angeles Chargers Who finally won at home last week, but now they have to go on the road And New England's favored by eight and a half and I don't think that's nearly enough Because I don't think the Chargers are any good. I Also, don't think the Chargers ever beat New England ever like whenever they play I feel like isn't just it's just a domination Yeah, I think like if you look at it over the last ten years, they probably played a handful of times fucking dominates. I feel like we also dominate the Chargers. Like we have a really good record against the Chargers over the course of time. I don't remember the last time we've lost to the Chargers. Anyway, with all that said, I have New England winning 31-10. Yeah, I think it'll be a one-way blowout. 35-13. don't see Chargers doing anything. I mean, they have little pieces. Their defense is not as bad as it- Well. They've played some competitive games. They're not a tanking team. But I feel like Phillip Rivers, I don't think he's good on the road. I think he's kind of past his prime at this point. Those three quarterbacks are that quarterback class of Eli Rivers and Big Ben. It's starting, the door's starting to shut. Yeah, on them. So yeah, I think knowing that we'll easily win this. Justin: So what would you do now? Jake: Of those three? Yeah, like, so we're the Jets, right? Which we are. Really, thanks. On the Jet Kingdom podcast. All three are... They're not, but free agents next year. And all three teams decide. No money issues. Well, yeah, whatever. We have enough money to spend on anybody we want, really. We can spend money on anybody. So... And that's a fact. So let's just say they're all free agents, or they all get cut, because their teams are ready to move on. Okay, right. Which of those three would you take on your team for the 2018 New York Jets? Correct. With all the assumptions that I still have a hundred million dollars to go spend? Yeah, money's not an issue. You can just have just one of the three. Who do you want? I know who I want. I actually think, and this is insane, I actually think I would take Eli Manning. And here's why. I don't think that Philip Rivers is a winner. Like he's not a winner winner, like winner winner chicken dinner. Like he's not a guy who goes in the playoffs and wins. Like I want that guy. Phil, Bill Ben and Eli are winners. Winners, they have Super Bowls. They're winners. I don't, everything I can hear of,
00 Jake: and I know you're gonna pick Ben Rothesburg, but everything I can hear about, just Ben Rothesburg, I just feel, he says it, he talks about retirement, he talks about, like I feel like he's just, he's like, he's done, like he doesn't wanna play. I feel like Eli Manning could pull a Peyton Manning, change a scenery, although not that much of a change of scenery. Sorry. And given a good defense, I think he could be perfect. I don't think he's the he's a guy who, A, he's sawed as a rock. It never gets hurt. He his skills, I don't think, are the problem. I think he's under a fucking terrible coach and a terrible system. And they're not just putting doing what he does best protect him. Let him throw the ball. Whereas I feel like Ben Roethlisberger is always hurt. He's like one or two injuries away from not playing again. Like literally just not playing again. One big broken leg or something. He's like, yeah, I'm done. So that's why I pick Eli. Plus I think the whole like Jets Giants, like Eli going to the Jets would be just so fun. I'm gonna surprise you. Yeah? I'm gonna pick Eli too. Oh, okay. You did surprise me. Because I convinced you. No. One of those two things. No, no. I mean at that age, you look at it and you're like. man Eli just doesn't miss games right ever he's he just doesn't always game yeah and if given again the pieces have to be right around him he wins games he does he does so does big Ben yes I mean it's between those two I wouldn't want rivers and I feel like big Ben would actually be like the better fit. But I do feel like he'd get hurt. So like I'm kind of thinking about that, right? Like do I want a guy who's going to play 12 games or do I want a guy who's going to play 16 games and I want the 16 or 19 games. So fun thought exercise. I would take you lie. Yeah, it's tough because they all have their their strengths. They have I mean, rivers could run this offense. I think great, right? Like this offense that we're running that McCown is looking like OK. And I think rivers will look awesome about rivers like again, it's just and maybe you never have the pieces around you and maybe you don't have this. But it's just like something about him. I'm like, he has bad coaches throughout his career. Unfortunately for him, I mean, he had I bet you some like really bad. Statistically. Phil Roberts has the best stats. Most yards? Probably thrown for the most yards. I bet he is. Probably thrown for the most touchdowns. But again, remember, he also... Probably better completion percentage and overall rating. He also played for head coaches that were complete shit. Yeah. Like Schottenheimer, not a good head coach. He's a loser head coach. Norv Turner, loser head coach. Right.
02 Jake: And the No, they couldn't have come in together. Yeah, no, I agree that like because Big Ben had What's his face like a cower and cower and right to and they're both really good coaches right now. He's got Tom one I don't know. Did coffin any like coming together Don't think they did fossil Not sure. Anyway, that's a fun exercise. All right, let's move on. So let's look at the game of the millennials. Yeah, we got the Jets. We got the Jets hosting Atlanta. The Jets are underdogs. Four and a half points, by the way. Four and a half is weird. Yeah, it's what Bill Simmons, one of my favorite. personalities called the Vegas zone. It's the Vegas zone. Because they don't know exactly what to do. So they just throw it in the middle somewhere. Falcons are like... It's not three. It's not three and a half. It's not six. It's not seven. Falcons are a team that almost got shut out last week. Like they got that touchdown in garbage time. Like total garbage time. They play the Pats. Right. In New England. With the Pats at one of the worst defense. Very difficult place to play at night. Totally agree. Really tough. Uh, and they had that whole Super Bowl shit thrown right in their face and it ate them up Well, they were not strong enough to to deal with Quinn good coach good defensive coordinator good head coach Got to remember remember. This is we've got this Bulls Quinn thing always got to the Super Bowl You know, maybe made some of the worst decisions about I didn't say like Rex Ryan good coach at this point You'd say no, but made two AFC Championship games, right? The rookie quarterback at first time like He might be one of those guys that like wears out there welcome Because he's the second defensive coordinator now under Pete Carroll to to be a head coach. The first was the guy who was fired by the Jaguars last year. And he was given a round of currency. The current guy is their current coach. I can't remember his name, but he was given a shot for like four years and he never won anything with a young team and no quarterback. Atlanta. This was a team that's like they were good. I mean, they were in the championship game. and fired their head coach and then he gained Quinn and Quinn totally changed like you know Now they have a defense right? He's like defense defense even because it was a defensive coordinator On the other hand I I do feel like there's like they lost Shanahan And they fired both their coordinators after the Super Bowl. Well, they didn't fire. Shanahan got hired because he deserved it. Now he's the head coach of the Owen, whatever 49ers. Whatever. They suck. They have no talent. Um, which might speak a little bit about bowls, right? Like we have no talent and we're have one, three games.
01 Jake: And then so he replaced him with a college guy Sarkeesian It's not quite working out so far No, they're not doing what they did last year. I've been close. All right, so let's talk about the keys the keys the castle How do we win this game? Give me a key to the castle to beating the Falcons on the Vante Freeman The volunteer frame drug him kill him. Okay. I don't know Devonta Freeman Tevin Coleman It's a two headed monster, but I feel like Freeman's the engine Because he's the guy who's a little bit more Explosive he's the starter. It's kind of like the they're a better version of like for tape owl Freeman is really hard to tackle He's like once he gets going he goes for like chunks 20 30 yards screenplays turn into like They should have been like two yards and boom, 25 yards down the field. They both have that talent. So shutting shutting that down and making them one dimensional. Will make it easier to then shut down like Julio Jones. Because it's like they've got weapons man. It's Julio Jones. It's a new I mean these guys are tough You've got a fast guy Gabriel who just goes deep, you know, he's like he's like the Robbie Anderson the better I mean everybody, you know, they have a good they're good weapons Like it's hard to like focus like who am I gonna shut down? I think you gotta shut the running game down And you gotta do that by shutting down Devonta Freeman from the start. Like, none of this Scream Pass bullshit. Darren Lee, get your ass out there and fucking cover him. That's that. And that'll be kind of the matchup. It's like Darren Lee and Damario Davis versus Devonta Freeman. Right. Who wins that matchup? If they win that matchup, we're screwed. Because if they can run, then the play action opens, then we gotta bring guys down, and then Julio's over the top, it's a fucking disaster. I think it's about, there's two numbers I'm gonna look at. If I looked at right now my forward-looking machine, and if I could see those two numbers, I could tell you where they won or lost. And it's time possession and third down conversions. We cannot beat teams if we cannot stay on the field in a consistent manner and drive the ball. And so if you tell me that we have more of a time of conversion and we're up in, I don't know what's good, like 45% conversion, I mean over 50, I think it's really good. I mean, you want to be about... I think you want to be at about 50 percent. OK, so so 50 plus and over in time of possession. I think there's a chance for us to win. Again, I just don't have a lot of faith in this offense to sort of build a good game plan that keeps you moving down the field.
01 Jake: They've got good pass rushers. I got Vic Beasley. They've got like I think they've got some on. But we've met up with a good pass rushers, you know. The thing I wish I could get into McAllen's head is throw the fucking ball away instead of trying to run away and taking these sacks. He keeps trying this run away and then he takes a sack and it's like a 10 yard sack. He keeps getting sacked, not from the like bull rush get in and he's in the pocket and gets sacked in the pocket. He gets sacked because he rolls out of the pocket and then he tries to run. And the guy's like, yeah, you're 38 year old, the 39 year old backup quarterback. I'm a 28 year old defensive end and I'm gonna catch you and if they do of course almost every time Yeah, but he still runs and he holds the ball and it's like don't take that just throw the ball away You should throw the ball away He doesn't do it though and it takes his big sex but then it leaves us in the third and fifteen But sometimes he makes plays happen. It's very infrequent Sometimes he makes plays happen and by rolling out he's not getting just crushed In totally Roy, you don't want to get crushed in the pot when he's in the foot race, like he feels like he can outrun the guy. And what I'd like to see is him step straightforward. Yeah, well, sometimes it's maybe that's just not there. Yeah, so maybe our center might just suck. Right. Remember, it's not Nick Mangle. I understand. So, you know, it's this guy who Wesley Johnson, who's like first year starter. He started a couple games last year because Mangle missed like two, three, four, five, whatever towards the end of the year. But, you know, maybe there's nowhere for him to go. So he's got to get outside. You can't just throw the ball away when in pocket. No. Because he kind of like. But it's not though, it's not the in pocket stuff. It's the out of pocket stuff that drives me crazy. I understand, but he's trying to make him play. But he's, but. It's fine, but you have to have the awareness to know you're not going to make the play. You know who's great at it? Russell fucking Wilson. When he's about to get sacked- Oh no, shit, but he's fucking Russell Wilson. There's like one Russell Wilson. But when he's getting caught, he knows to throw it. I understand, but he also gets- I bet if you looked it up, Russell Wilson gets sacked probably the most of any quarterback in the whole entire league. I don't know. I doubt that. I would actually bet you. Well, we know it's no because we know from Tana Hill's been the most sacked quarterback last five years this year. Okay. I bet if you looked Also Wilson is like Sizer or something like 17 sacks because I know he gets sacked a lot and so does Aaron Rodgers They both get sacked a ton and they're both like magicians. Yeah, that's the thing. They're magicians, but they also get caught But he's not a magician. I'm just saying that style. So anyway, that's it. Third down conversions, you gotta stay on the field. I think we can stay with them. I don't think they're that great of a team. Our team, if our defense shows up, I think we can stick with them. They're gonna score points. I see us, if we're gonna win this game is gonna be close. 24-23, New York Jets. Oh, that's so funny. All right. Shock the world. I have us covering. I was covering. Like the spread.
00 Jake: Oh, that's great. We're going to keep it close. We're going to score 20 points and they're going to score 24. It'll be one of this. Maybe we'll have a chance to win at the end and fuck it up. There you go. Maybe we'll be winning twenty seventeen and we'll have a chance to win in Bill. I have not. I have no faith. If it's a fourth quarter, we got to go down there and win the game. I have no faith. I might just leave the stadium because I have not seen this guy do anything. Yeah. In the first quarter, it's like, OK, after his third drive. OK, score touchdown. Anyway, that's my thing. I hope we win. Let's go Jets I don't want to you know if the if the bills lose dolphins just lost and if we win We're right kind of still hanging in there and in the world We lose this I think we're going more and more down down the shitter. Yeah, it's tough. Yeah. All right Well, we'll be back next week when loser draw until then Jake and Justin saying Let's go, Chats. You
