19 Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom podcast, longest running New York Jets podcast. Ever! I'm Jake and joining me 295 times in a row consecutively. It's Justin. Justin how you doing? Justin: Good we're almost at 300. 300? 300. So many. That is a lot. do you think we'll get there before the draft doubtful right so we'll probably do one this week well we are doing one right now right now that happens the Jake: next thing to happen is really maybe there's more that happens in free agency Justin: I'm think we're pretty much I think we think like pre draft and then post draft Jake: And Might be a training camp as number 300 Justin: OK Well now that we have that sorted out Jake: Yes! Let's get to it! Sooo... Since we've been gone... Well I think it's a lot of effort Justin: What do we do? We just recapped the Super Bowl the last time Yes Jake: We did the Super Bowl We talked about what we were going to do in the Super Bowl I think we had many discussions about quarterbacks So many talked about what we want to do in QB in with the quarterback situation a little bit We want to do it free agency what the holes were but now free agency has started officially that oh, yeah By the way, Happy New Year. Thank you. Yeah, it's the NFL New Year as of yesterday two days ago And now we're free and see I love legal tampering Justin: Period that's like my favorite thing Why isn't it just like time to talk? Jake: I don't remember this stuff happening like this. They must have changed it that first of all, I used to think it happened over a weekend. So I thought they used to open up like on a Friday and then Monday, the new year. Justin: But I don't like the legal tampering period. Why don't you just say free agency started? Jake: And then there's all this like. sources say, but clearly they know, because all these things are, but then they don't, it doesn't, none of it takes place until like the league starts and then all these real contracts can be signed. Justin: Super weird. Jake: But like we knew, cousins and all this sort of stuff. So let's talk about all the news. Like, the Jets have done a lot of stuff. A lot of guys are gone, a lot of guys re-signed. Justin: Why don't we start with... Jake: cousins start with the end. Justin: Why don't we start with our our either like misses slash gone. So to me, cousins was a miss. Jake: So but there's some very, very, very, I mean, it went down. I've been saying long. I think I've produced in this podcast many times. New York just doesn't get these these guys and from the team that we're on and I said I've said this publicly
02 Jake: I said this privately to you. I said if I'm Kirk Cousins, I'm not going to the Jets There's just not enough reason for me to go than Jets I want to go to every person wants to go to a winning team I just want a big reason then there's the real reason he did it. So I want to go to a winning team I want to have a chance to win a Super Bowl. I want to make a ton of money and I want to have a lot of weapons and Out of those four, I think ton of money was he could have made more money with the jazz because we think we offered him a five year contract of 30 million. Justin: Yeah, there's some there's some rumors out there that he did not take the most money offered. Jake: He did not, but he take the most guaranteed. We offered him not as much guaranteed. He took 100 percent guaranteed. Justin: The fact that Kirk Cousins is the highest paid NFL player is so. dumb. Jake: But for now, for now. Justin: Even that it happened for like three seconds. Really? He's fine. He's good. I like him. But is he the best? Jake: Oh my god, I have to go back and grab the like this where you're just like, we have to get him. Justin: We should have. We tried our best. Jake: Didn't happen. Oh, well, are you pissed or are you like you just like turn the corner like I'm over it. It's all good. Justin: Am I pissed? Like do you give I'm lukewarm on it I I I I'm okay with the fact that it didn't happen It would have been nice for it to have gone down because I would have felt very comfortable with the quarterback position. And I would have felt like, okay, we're good. We have a quarterback. Jake: I don't feel that way right now. No, we're exactly we're. We're exactly right. So here's what I say about cousins. I wanted cousins too and towards the last couple days where it was down to us and we were going to win him, I got into the like... again, I think what I was saying before was, I don't care. I just wanted to go get a guy. We tried and honestly, I think McKadden put together a good deal. It was down to two of us. That's great. He apparently didn't even think about Denver. Didn't think about Arizona. And at the end of the day, we put our best foot forward. The difference is that cousins wanted, I think one thing that we were not willing to depend on, which is he wanted a more walk down money, more guaranteed money. And he wanted a shorter period of time. Justin: Yes, we can hit it again in three years. Jake: Yeah, he's like, I don't wanna be no... five-year deal. I want three years. Amazing. No matter what, I get hurt tomorrow. I'm sitting Justin: around with 90 million dollars or 87. I can go to this guy between the last two years and the next three years. Wow. He's done well for himself. Yeah. Fourth round pick. Pick to back up a number two overall pick in the same draft. Unreal that guy's serving Subway sandwiches
02 Justin: Unbelievable what happened there? Yeah RG3 was like the future of the NFL and then oh, yeah Jake: RG3 can't even hold a candle to what cousins has done. No and and you know now I think it's okay to be like Well, it's better. We have this thing Justin: I think that's gonna be a good team by the way those Vikings Jake: Really good there and and and how it's a hundred percent switch that the other two quarterbacks left one signs for Denver That I can't see to me Signing case Keenan. I don't know that just to real money. It's a real money real money like starter money I mean, even signing Sam Bradford to Arizona for 20 million seems cuckoo crazy. Justin: It was one year. Jake: But he will play six games. Yeah. He's never proven Rhe can't play. I mean... Justin: He's never even been good. Jake: Oh, you know, I think the stats say he's better than we perceive him as, but I don't care if you can't play. Justin: He's not good. Okay. I've like seen him play. Jake: He had one game last year that he was just absolutely stunning. Justin: He didn't play last year. Yes he did. No, he really didn't. Jake: I played with the first two games. Justin: You played a game. Jake: Yeah, he was really good at one game. One game. Yeah, I don't really care. He's, I never wanted him on a team. Case Keenum, I didn't want that. Justin: So those were the two Vikings that we didn't want. We'll get to the other Vikings. It was very quick. We'll get there. We'll get there. We'll get there. We'll get there. We got other things You know Mo Wilkerson gone Yeah, okay, Mo Wilkes gone. He's with the Packers one year five million. That's fine prove it deal the Jake: Losing him was the writing wasn't even on the wall. It was written in it's more of it's just now now you have to put on your your go back glasses and go Justin: who should've signed snacks yeah we made a mistake like that was known that was quickly too and now Jake: it's a reality but when it happened i have a podcast where you can you and i talked about it were like well we think he's more of a thing and he was a first round pick and we think there's better and he's a better player He was a good player, he was good at his job, and he didn't stay motivated. Justin: anything. No, absolutely none of them did a thing. Nobody, none of them. I don't even think any of Jake: them barely played. Right. So, you know, it's just, but he's the one who made the first decision. So he's got to take the hit for the second decision. Right. Um, but freedom cap space just recently. I think yesterday we lost, uh, Asj Justin: Saffarian is no longer jet. He went to the my jags went to be your jags my jags
02 Justin: Fine, not really Jake: You really get paid whatever. Yeah more than we were offering him. He's not that good Justin: So funny yesterday. I was like whatever Jake: Who needs them? You're like, you need to tie that and you Justin: actually less money than Damar-o-davis got from the Saints. Jake: Yeah, so... Justin: I like Damar-o-davis leader, but I think they cut bait at the right time. Jake: Remember, he was a jet. We cut him. Well, we didn't cut him. Did we trade him? Justin: Um... I thought we cut him. No, we just didn't re-sign him. That's not cutting somebody, it's just not re-sign him. Jake: But then we re-signed him. Justin: traded for him for great trade. He brought a lot to the locker room last year, taught the young guys a lot of things he was a good leader, but I think he's a great cover guy. You just don't want to see. slippage when it comes to covering tight ends and covering, running backs and you know we've replaced him with somebody younger and that'll be that and Forte retired so that happened too. Yes that did happen. That happened. I can't think of any
00 Justin: other like names that are worth mentioning. I know there are a couple. Jake: , whatever. Yeah. Signed a kicker too. Yes. Well, we just signed the kicker. And again, whatever. That is part of the thing that doesn't really matter. All right. Let's talk about the... should we talk about people we re-signed? You put those down? I put... Yeah, I like... Yeah, like Claiborne. Um, it's just recently recent $7 million one year fine. Justin: Great, great. Should go year to year. He's not worth like multiple year. Anything's. Josh McCown is back $10 million. Jake: Got a raise from like six. Justin: It's something like that. Jake: I I'm going to say it now because this is my biggest worry of that is that. This Bulls is so into the guys he likes and the guy who gives him like 2% chance more to win a Super Bowl as a Super Bowl win a game versus the like look a little bit longer term and it would be better off for everybody. Um, and that they came out and I know you and that other dude like, doesn't matter what they said, but they literally said it. Don't say this shit. Don't say to McCown, you're the starter. I don't give it as a starter of like... Doesnctica doesn't Doesn't matter what don't say that I don't he's not Justin: He's not the starter. They said it. Yeah great cool. Let's see what happens. Let's see what happens. It's not great cool It's actually let's see what happens. You shouldn't say that. Yeah, you should find it. Whatever don't say it can say whatever you want Jake: No, because it's just dumb. It just makes it it puts the whole team on its side. Like don't call him the starter Call him the guy we just, you know, you want to call him the great coach of the new young guy? Fine. Don't call him the starter. It's just stupid. As a guy, again, I just if we go into this season and he's starting the first game, I'll be just. Yeah, that'll be sad. I'll be livid because we're right back. I mean, how many years are we going to go with someone who's 35 and above who's a backup quarterback? Well, if he starts, that'll be four years. Justin: And if he beats, well, not true. Jake: Yes. No. That won't be four years in a row. It won't because... Fitz started for two years. Okay, but he's not that old. Justin: McAllen started. But he's not that old. Jake: McAllen started last year. You just threw a number out there. 35. And Fitz passed... 34? 33 when he started. He was a terrible backup. Fine. Justin: But whatever you said wasn't true. So anyway... Don't... Okay. The fact that we went out and signed Teddy Bridgewater... leads me to believe that the door is open for complete and utter competition in the offseason. So if they signed Teddy Bridgewater and don't give him even a chance to win the starting job that would be silly. Medically I don't know even Jake: I mean, he did play in the last game. Justin: He was cleared to play and he did. He did the field? Yes. Jake: He did the field for like two seconds or something. Justin: The last game of the regular season. Because because.
01 Justin: The Vikings and Zimmer. Never truly believed in Case Keenum, right? And they wanted they wanted Bridgewater. to be the quarterback, but he could not get back early enough. As early as he could get back was like the last game of the season. Like he, I think he dressed the last two or three games, but I remember seeing him on the field and he was kind of limping around still and not quite there. So we had a gruesome injury missed two full seasons And in his last season with the Vikings, he did lead them to the playoffs. They were 11 and five. He also led them down the field to beat Seattle. And the kicker missed an extra point when they're the outdoor stadium. Right. And he he just missed a 22, 23 yard field goal. Otherwise, he would have beaten Seattle in the playoffs. I wasn't super excited as this was happening. I was actually no, please God, no. Because I really thought it would, I thought it was going to hurt us in the drafting of a quarterback. Because I thought that they would get this guy who's younger than Bryce Petty, by the way, and be like. Better than Bryce Petty. Well, definitely better than that. That's not. Yeah. I mean, he's started, you know, a season and almost two full seasons. He was a starter and he has a winning record and was on a playoff team, started a playoff game, should have won it. Won the division. I think Adrian Peterson was on that team. So like, you know, okay, for what it's worth. But still, I thought, oh man, they're going to sign this guy and they're not going to draft a guy. And I really want them to draft a quarterback so bad. And I really just wanted to be a three-guy competition. Whoever wins, wins. Nobody has any leg up. Maybe McCown has a slight leg up because he knows the, because he just knows them. Jake: That's it. Definitely has a leg up. Justin: But when it comes down to it, It's I think the best best last year Well, they did it last year and they let the guys try to win the damn job and they sucked Macau played one Single series in the preseason. He did not even play anything and the other guys were so bad Jake: that they had no choice. But in but in but what that what I don't want to happen because I don't want McCown to get the snaps this is the problem having the three. He didn't get snaps. He wasn't that he wasn't getting snapped all season or all not even season but all the preseason. No Justin: they were all going to Hackenberg. They were trying to give Hackenberg the job and he just couldn't take it. All right. Now Teddy will take it. I have Teddy will take it if they let him if they let him take it He's got he's he's a talented enough player
01 Jake: Let's take the injury away if he's injury way any of account at his age and Teddy of his age Teddy Justin: He'll win the job reason why he shouldn't there's no reason he'd win the job. He's better than Josh McCown Jake: He now the only problem is we only sign into one year. So if he's not problem Well, not a problem to have an option for a couple of years. I would have liked to have like One that could turn in or two that could turn into three because if he blows it up he's Justin: Well, he's not gone you resign him well you have to resign he can sure Okay blows it up and he's doing great in New York and he has a good season with the Jets and they do really well I don't see reason why you'd want to leave Jake: That's true. Justin: He's a first round pick just three, four years ago. It's not like he's going to want to go somewhere else. Jake: If he's having a good season, here's what I think McAGVins doing and, and, and every team that did this. So if you look at every team, uh, I mean, we talk all the crazy trades, the bills trading for, um, Bill's did a fantastic job. Well, no, sorry. The Browns trading for, uh, not when they escaped me. Why? Tyra Taylor. Yeah. With the bills and Denver picked up a quarterback and Arizona picked up a quarterback and the bills picked up a quarterback AJ McCarron. So everybody who wants a quarterback actually has a quarterback. Sure. But that's but I think that's the smart move clearly, because what they're doing is saying, Listen, nobody wants to be desperate. Unless you're at one, which actually the Browns are at one, they didn't need to do that because they could have picked a quarterback and a running. They could pick whatever they want. They've got one and four. But what they want is options. So when you're sitting there at six, and I do not think we're gonna move up, I just don't think McAdens is good at that. I think he's gonna sit at six. And I think he's gonna make, listen, if the right guy who we want, I think they have one or two targeted, I don't think they have all four targeted. did. Justin: If the right guy falls to us, we'll pick them. They talked to Mayfield the other day. They talked to Mayfield and they talked to... I love that. I want Mayfield in the worst way. Jake: I just... Well, I've been... I've been trying not to get excited about one player. I said this like, I don't want to get excited... Okay, I didn't want to get excited the other way, and I got excited by her. Like, I don't want to get excited because then I don't want to be disappointed when we don't get the guy who I want. That's what actually is so cool about the Sanchez pick is because we weren't like we didn't know we're gonna pick Sanchez It was just like out of the blue There's been a trade the Browns have given up number six to the Jets and oh my god What we just moved up and grabbed frickin Sanchez, right? So I think he's just I I think he likes to just let the draft come to him and so I think he's gonna sit there at six I'm hoping that the guy that they want The quarterback they want comes down and lands through some crazy set of events. But everybody in that top tier kind of can be like, yeah, if I pick a guy, pick a guy. But like nobody's desperate. Nobody, besides the Bills, I think the Bills and the Dolphins. The Bills need a quarterback. The Dolphins have a quarterback who's one game.
01 Justin: It's like, the Bills. Jake: I think they're the most desperate. We have. You can go out and win eight year. Give him a little bit of a better better evaluation and some whatever and he'll win and a better schedule. Whatever. Couple of ways. Couple of ASJ not fumbles and games. Yeah. Really. McAllen could bring us to a game. Justin: Yeah, we don't want that. I'd rather Bridgewater do it. and Then they then they like the worst that they don't take Hackenberg had every opportunity on the planet to take the job and he lost B Yeah, I'm the worst defense like they were just shit and they they have the second pick for a reason Yeah, we went backwards against them Negative yards pick sixes fumble sixes, but there is their defense outscored our entire offense Jake: There is a theory that if you had given I don't care which one of those people and given them the start and said, Justin: and a Reva style physical. him and clayburn that's Jake: That's the same time I would be just signed him I would be bringing that clayburn Justin: next to you that's good with the rookie second year safeties with our second year safeties who are going to be better than they were last year We have a formidable secondary Jake: and on paper it looks good. Justin: Looks very good to me. Jake: It looks good on paper. Yep. That this went from being kind of a, really bad. When we went through, we were, we were away driving someplace like, let's start looking at the stats. Justin: And they were not great. Jake: I mean, everywhere, offense. There were no good stats. Well, Jets did not have a good most punts. We had second most punts. Second most punts. To the Giants. Right. Two games. Right. That, that. We had a lot of punts. That means you, and so then, you know, there's a correlation between punts and then having your defense have to play the entire game. Then there's time and a possession, which I think we lost most games that we lost because we just couldn't keep the ball. We could not drive the field. Could not make a third down. I mean, ugh. Justin: Anyway, so Tremaine Johnson's in Claiborne's back,
00 Justin: Avery Williamson we talked about as a linebacker, we signed Isaiah Crowelle. Three year deal but it's really one. I like it. It's okay. He reminds me of Chris Ivory. He's a tough runner. So like that. Style of guy was missing. Yeah, and he's never been a number one dude. Jake: I feel like more running backs is always better. Justin: More is better. We should draft one as well. Absolutely draft one. Spencer Long coming in as our center, the and our San dos But I imagine that dude from Duke will be there in the in camp and be pushing him because he's there every year I Never understand why we don't sign just go with him Go with them and then there's still out there guys. So what's your, let's do some what's your Jake: What do you think's the worst loss you got pick one? Justin: I'm no someone who was on our team. That's no longer that was a jet. That is no longer. Yes a jet. Yes. I Lose anyone like super talented. I guess I would pick Damaria Davis from a just from a leadership team glue guy He was he was a big For that defense? Jake: Then I- I think it's, uh, Jenkins, I just thought... I just thought that was... He was someone who scored touchdowns, he was a big threat we don't- And there's no one there. There's no one to say, oh, that's the 6'5 guy that can catch that ball above everybody else. I'm not saying he was the greatest. Justin: Well, he wasn't that great at that either. Remember? Jake: But that's what I wanted. That's what we need on this team. Justin: Well, Quincy and Nune well also is a quasi tight end. Jake: I kind of want to go and get Crabtree, but that's just. Justin: That's fine. He could play on the outside. He's not inside, dude. No. Jake: And then what's your biggest? What's your biggest signing that you think is just like just you're just the most excited about? Justin: Well, one guy. It's hard. Yeah. I mean, I'm most excited about Tremaine Johnson because I feel like we need the lockdown guy, the physical guy, the guys that make a tackle, whatever. Jake: 30-8 passer rating- Justin: Yeah, just get up in someone's face and don't worry about it. He's got it.
00 Justin: With the same respect, I've turned the corner on it and I'm excited. Jake: About Teddy. I'm gonna get that that post that you when I'm like, I'm really I think we should get Teddy and you're like no Justin: No, Teddy. I I've come around on it. I'm excited about risk high reward I talked to a friend of mine who's who's a big Vikings fan and I asked him and I said is this a good signing or not and he said it's a good signing..hewasthefuture He was good. He was good young and he was up and coming and He he can play football Yeah, I'm excited about that and I'd like to see him live. Do you know that we saw them play The Vikings with him manners. Oh That's right. Yes, we did He played terrible in that game. Yes, he did. The Niners did not. Did not let him play very well. Jake: Yes, we saw him live. I actually will want to go back and watch like a highlight reel, but I'd love to go watch a game, maybe that game or some game that it's like Justin: this guy because I remember him. Watch the playoff game. Watch them play against Seattle in the playoffs. Yeah, that's probably that's the best game to watch because it's. Yeah, but it's Seattle. It was Seattle before they lost it before like that was Legion of Boom Seattle and they were gonna beat him Speaking of Seattle Ain't that an interesting situation going on over there? Well, what part of it all of it? They're all gone Yeah, he's gone Sherman's gone Jake: 49ers. Yep Justin: on a terrible deal apparently that he negotiated himself which I did not realize. Jake: Oh yeah that was the big thing. Justin: Represented himself and fucked himself. Jake: Basically it's all incentives. Like it's just- Justin: And he's like a 30 year old dude trying to come back from a torn Achilles. Yeah it's- He'll never hit his incentives. Jake: It's just all incentives. Justin: No guaranteed money on that. Jake: That's one of those things it's like doing your own taxes like yeah you can but- Justin: I was listening to the radio, the NFL radio whatever in the car the other day. when they were talking about it. Jake: And... Justin: Pat Kerwin maybe had a good point. It was... He doesn't care. This isn't a three year deal for him. He gets to play the Seahawks twice a year. Jake: This is just a fuck you deal? Justin: This is a, maybe it's this year. I've already made a bunch of money. Doesn't matter. I get to play them twice. Jake: Like is that, is that better? Justin: Probably. Seems like that type of guy, doesn't he? You've seen the interviews on TV. He's not a stupid guy at all. He's very very smart, very cunning. But he's also seems like a very vindictive type of fella. Jake: I think that's how he wants to play, wants to put a chip on his shoulder. Justin: That's right. So he's in that division and they're gonna have a chance. the Niners and that's a good division. Yep. The Niners with Jimmy G. Can't forget about Seattle.
00 Justin: They're still there with Russell Wilson. I mean, yeah, that's tough. I mean, they don't really, they don't have much. They don't have much. Then it's gone. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. Jake: Who are you signed with? Justin: Uh, where did he go? Yeah, don't tell me no. It wasn't the Giants though. I know it wasn't the Giants. Come on, you have to know it's not the Giants. Uh, I can't remember. It was someone good though. It was someone I remember. I was like, oh shit. That's gonna be a good defensive line. Jake: What's the, out of all the trades and all the stuff, what's the one that you're most impressed with? Like the most- The Bills. Justin: The Bills did an awesome job. Jake: Trading away. today. Justin: They did a great job. Doing what they did to get. I mean, they have. Jake: They've picked in every of the first two or three rounds, six picks in the first three rounds. Justin: That's really incredible leverage. And they were able to move around in the first round like they moved up in the first round by like trading their left tackle who. so they like They didn't really love him. He was making like 15 million dollars a year. So they trade him. And they move. And they flip first. So they get rid of all this cap space. And flip first and move up like 10 spots. Jake: Here's the thing about the bills. I know it sounds like they have all these pigs. But they have nobody on their team. So what you need for those six picks is for them to land and be great. And we know the percentage chance of four out of your six being great players. Justin: But they may not end up with six. They may end up with, they may end up only picking three. Jake: Yeah. Justin: It's all just maneuvering. Jake: But then it's percent, then percentage chance of having all three be good and they need three players. Who's. Who's the talent on that team? Nick named the five talented players on the Justin: I don't know their defense isn't bad. They were a playoff team. They just they just made the playoffs. Jake: And they got rid of their playoff quarterback. They didn't like him and their and their and their their. Justin: I guess McCoy is their best player. Jake: And he's he's at the wrong side. That guy is he's. He's not gonna make it to the same. Justin: McCoy, they have a couple of receivers that were young. Young receivers, right? Is Kelvin Benjamin still there? Did he leave? Jake: Oh, no, he might be there, but he didn't. He did nothing when he arrived. Right. Zippo. Anyway, have a lot of talent. Justin: There's still a guy out there that got cut the other day. Taran Matthew, the honey badger. Yeah. Got cut by the Cardinals. I'd love to see him be a jet really yeah, I don't know if he fits the he fits He fits we play we play a lot of nickel. Yeah, and he's a nickel He's a better Buster screen. Why would you not want a better Buster screen? Jake: He fits perfect till now it bowls
00 Jake: And balls was his coach, but it's not with balls. Justin: Balls was his coach when he had some of his better seasons and Like he always gets play born atoms. They all know each other. He also always gets hurt They all know each other. It's they love to play each other with each other deal and it's good for us Jake: Fine, no problem. Justin: He's a good player. Jake: I'm all in on that. Justin: Well, go watch the, you watched it. You saw what he did for the Cardinals there. He's a real deal player. Jake: The most surprising, the most surprising is Arizona signing Brad for $20 million. Justin: Who the hell is he to get 20 million dollars? A guy who gets hurt, a guy who throws for 80% completion, but 170 yards, who gives a shit? Jake: We could have a, we could have a, the AFC East could have three rookie quarterbacks starting and Tom Brady. That can be, that could be a thing. Justin: Although I think Tana Hill will start for the Dolphins. Jake: They're talking about getting dumped in them. Like literally they're talking about dumping them. They have no ties to him. Thank you for your attention. This is the problem with this whole, let's get to the top and be one of the top picks to pick one of these quarterbacks, is now there's a lot of people in the quarterback market. It's a hot season. Justin: That's really surprising to me that they would just cut bait with Tana Hill. He's terrible. It's still surprising to me that... That head coach doesn't feel like he could make it work. Jake: He's also the... He's been around for five, six years now, hasn't really shown much. Eventually you have to go, yeah, you're not the future. So even if you draft a guy that you're not starting immediately, you're still drafting a guy going... I don't know if I really want to sit around and watch this guy kind of maybe win eight games a year You know and they've given him weapons. They brought in people Sue got cut he got his 20 million dollars. Sorry 60 million dollars guaranteed with it with that was a great signing from from Dolphins three years ago. I don't know. Justin: And Dom Jake: I think I'm the most excited about Bridgewater just from that up. Is that that upside? Yeah. And because it's a little bit, you know, it feels a little bit like fantasy football. It feels like in the eighth round you pick that one guy who's like, you know, nobody knows about. But you saw playing preseason is really good or whatever. But so many changes just watching this stuff come through. And for the Packers, it's funny, the Packers are usually a company that does not do this. It doesn't do these big signings in free agency. They usually, I think they had a stat once that on their team, I think this was two years ago, they like, on the Packers team, only one guy was signed from an outside free agency. I think it's Pepper Johnson, not Pepper Johnson, something Peppers. The big defensive end. Justin: Which organization? Packers.
00 Justin: Oh, they signed Julius Peppers. Like a handful of years ago. Jake: But at the time they said there's only one guy on the team that they signed. They don't do this. Justin: Well, they signed Wilkerson and they signed Jimmy Graham. Jake: Which is? Justin: Who's not in Seattle anymore. Jake: No. No, he's not. Justin: And they lost Paul Richardson. I don't even know who he's gonna throw at Doug Baldwin and what else. Jake: I don't know. They'll draft a guy. Justin: That's so strange. They just ripped that team apart. Yeah. I guess they're like, screw it, the Rams. They're good. They're pretty good for the next couple years. Jake: The Niners are gonna be good. Justin: The Niners. Oh, is that where Bennett went? The Rams? Jake: I don't know, I could look it up though. Justin: Shit. Why can't I remember where he went? Jake: What about Jonathan Stewart going to the Giants? Justin: He's a nothing burger for me. Jake: Ha! There was some interest sent. Alright, well that's enough. Anything else you want to talk about? When's the actual draft? No clue. I'm out in a couple weeks. No idea. I do know what it is because I have it in my calendar. It is... I know it's April. roll. And I'm looking at my calendar and it was on Thursday. It's on the 26th. We'll definitely do a podcast between now and then. And we'll do a grades after all things and all the things have come out and all the contracts are signed. I'd like to know how much money we have left because one of the big theories was, you know, the cap has two sides. It's $170 million top. up. But there's a floor you have to hit. And I don't know what that floor is. Is it 90 million? Is it 100 million? But you have to hit the floor. Well, you have to average over three years, I think. But I think this is the year that we've been pushed to having to get to something. Otherwise, our last three years mean, I think this is the year that's like recalculated. Justin: Because we didn't spend anything this past year, probably. Jake: Right. So. So, I think like mathematically we have to hit a score. That's why Tremaine Johnson got a nice deal. Right. Or paying a guy for one year. Like, or giving the count of $10 a million. Justin: That's why Crowell got a one, a three year, one year deal. Jake: That's, I just wish we'd done that with Teddy Bredewater. I wish we'd even. Justin: Giving him like the three year, one year deal. He might not have wanted it. Jake: Eh, maybe. Justin: Because he might have wanted the one year, let me just win a fricking job and show you. Jake: Yeah. Justin: Because I don't want to lock myself in for three years. Like Cousins, I don't want to lock myself in for five years where I don't control the last two and I end up having to sit out in pre-season. Jake: Right. No, he would want. Everybody wants Kirk Cousins' contract. Everybody. Pay me 25.5 million dollars. Justin: Well, unless you could get it fully guaranteed for injury, you'd take the five years. But no one's doing that. Jake: No, we wouldn't do that. Justin: Well, no one's doing, no one's doing like a fully guaranteed for injury thing over the course of like a six year deal. You generally get like the first two or three years that you get it and what you do is, you know, the first year's. Generally speaking, the first year your salary is like $2 million, but your signing bonus is like 26.
00 Justin: So like that sort of balances it out sort of. And that gets you the guaranteed money, your signing bonus. And then you have those two more years of like really guaranteed money. And then... No, he's... Good on him because the nfl fucks players more than the players fuck the nfl and good on him for figuring it out Jake: And his agent remember that for the last two years he's got he got paid like 19 million then 25 million good on him, man Justin: Good. Yeah, good for him Yeah, good for you, man. You figured it out. You're broke. You broke the matrix. Uh Jake: Two breeze got signed to a two year. That's just a like yeah, but the one it's only one Justin: Just one one guaranteed Someone apparently offered him 60 Someone actually did throw something Why wouldn't we have I mean I would have taken I would have taken Drew Brees as a bridge to a first round pick Because people figure it out like why are you paying these dudes? Jake: Bell should just shut up and I know that it's franchised everybody's getting paid like 18 million or 16 million for the year Justin: Yeah, but he's gonna he's gonna get paid Then he's not gonna play Jake: No, I don't well, they start getting his fines start going massive. Do they yeah cuz he's on He also made comments like how he wouldn't play. Justin: Play hard. Like he'll just show up and dress for a week long. Yeah. Jake: Okay. Make money now you got your ring nice out making money gasps Justin: It just seems a little strange usually the Patriots get rid of you. You don't leave the Patriots. Yeah, they got the McCarty brothers Jake: Yeah, that's me fun. That'll be a Good tweet if I didn't I was gonna make a joke that like, you know, it's a big thing It's a dream for them to play together Justin: a I I signed you so that we signed you so that we didn I signed you so that we didn I said you would I said you would I said Just one of you show up. We're paying only one of you. I can't wait for that. Bellj R the, check such an asshole. All right, let's wrap it up here. All right. Jake: It's been a while. Justin: We can wrap it up with Bell and checks and asshole. Sure. Jake: And I'm really letting you say, we'll be back in a week or two or four. Draft, pre-draft, we should do a pre-draft because we're so high-up.
00 Jake: It's a good. at least pick the six. Justin: I mean, yeah, and we have and we have the two second rounders that we can't forget about. They're they're decent picks. Yeah, right. We have like three of the top 40 some odd picks. Yep. So we're going to get, you know, an influx of three young guys that we can't forget about that fact. So like. I can't imagine us going into the season with. with me, and there's this... ... ... Jake: Right, we need more than two though. We need like four starters. Guys who we drafted last year hopefully can step up Justin: and play, we'll see. step up and play, we'll see, we'll see. Jake: All right, we'll be back a couple weeks. Justin and Jake saying. Let's go Jets!
