09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away! Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. Longest Run New York Jets podcast on entire interwebs. My name is Jake, joining me for a very special episode about people touching people. No, wait. A very special episode because it's Wednesday, I was gonna say it's Wednesday, Wednesday, and uh breaking news abound. So I'm welcoming you in for the 143rd time. Good buddy Justin to discuss some Jets news and other news We actually have a couple different things, but we were obviously inspired because of the breaking news. We'll get to that last How you doing Justin? I'm doing alright. We're gonna do the breaking news last. Yeah, even though I have it second. Yeah Well, we got to go but I want to talk about let's talk about the two other things because while we're doing that the news Can change could change Things are happening. So just so people know, we're recording this on Wednesday, March 21st. Yes. When the Tebow trade was announced this morning, or this afternoon. This afternoon. And as of right now, it's not on. No, it's still on. No, it's not on. It's not official. Oh, it's not official. Not official. Right. So it happened, but it didn't happen. You didn't just break news. I didn't break anything. Okay. It still happened, but it still might not happen. Well, it hasn't happened yet. The trade's not official because there could be a snag. There is a snag. Let's get into it. Let's get into talking about the first news, which is really big news from yesterday. From a couple days ago. Whenever it was. Pain Manning. Oh, well let's go back. Wanna go back before Pain Manning? Yeah, the two things we signed last week. Chaz Shillings. You're throwing this order. I put this thing in order with numbers. I want them to order. And you're going out of order. Fuck you. You're out of order. Your whole fucking place is out of order. This is Teemo time, baby. I want to go in terms of when it actually happened. Oh, alright. So we got a quarterback. His name is Drew Stanton. Yeah, there you go. Okay. Drew Stanton. Fine. Whatever. So not important news now. Moving on. It's so irrelevant. No, what was the deal? It was $3 million? Not even. 1.25. That's for a backup. That's what you're gonna get a backup. That's fine. We paid J. Peely to come in for I think three snaps And he got one point something million dollars. J. Peely. Peely. Sorry. Peely came in for three snaps and then got hurt and he got a million bucks It's like here you go. I hope you never play. Interesting The only thing I think that's more interesting than that was if they had waited a couple days and the whole Alex Smith thing Would there have been a way of convincing Alex Smith? No. No. To do what? To come be our backup? Yeah. He would never do that. Alright.
04 Jake: Why would Alex Smith take a backup deal? Well, because he was in the patent man. He was going over there. But he's getting eight or nine million dollars. You're gonna pay that guy to eight or nine million dollars to be a backup? Alright. We don't even have that. So the big, we got our, we got a safety, maybe the safety, in Le Ronde Landry. Yeah, I think that's a good one his contract structured in a good way, too Yeah, that was this kind of got to play to make his money. He's got to play to make his money I think it was worth what that one was a total of 3.5 There was some guaranteed up front stuff and then it was like from game to game. He'd be paid a Little over a hundred grand a game. Yeah, so like there's 16 games. That's one point six one point seven million dollars that is a game-to-game type of thing. So if he gets injured, which is a concern after week three, he only gets paid for week one, two, and three. Right. That's good. He's a big motherfucker. He's a big dude when you see pictures of him. He's got big muscles. All the Pats fans have been like, he's a juice head. He probably is. Supposedly, I don't know when the last time I really watched the Redskins play, but I asked our friend of the podcast, who's a Giants fan, Who doesn't listen to podcasts? Is LaRon Landry any good? And he said, yeah, he's real good. But he gets hurt. He seems like the physical type of safety that should fit right in kind of in the mold of like a James Ahedebo Blitzer type, but hopefully a little better than James Ahedebo and Basically take on big-ass tight ends. Well, I don't know if that's his strength necessarily. I want someone to take on big-ass tight ends. Running backs not gonna be able to get around the edge type of deal Alright as opposed to a cover Rob Gronkowski type of guy. I just want something to hit Rob Gronkowski Hard people do hit that guy. Alright, he gets hit. We also got chashones, which was Earlier in the timeline. Yeah, but whatever I don't care. Oakland receiver. What apps? Yeah, I mean they made me ask make never did anything never did anything there's yeah I you know still not solving our not solving our number number two Why receiver issue not happening and? Let's go the other news. I guess a good rum blocker, right? Don't talk about the big news that happened yesterday that would set all the other news in the Peyton Manning Hey Manning news didn't happen two days ago I feel like it happened Monday. Okay, Monday. And then you like signed yesterday. Yeah, well officially it was made again. So Peyton Manning went from many different courting, many teams to courting one and officially signed with the Denver Broncos yesterday. Thoughts? Justin: A, I predicted it. PREDICTED IT! You predicted like eight different things. No, I predicted twice. Jake: You predicted a lot of different things.
01 Jake: I said he should go to the Cardinals. Yeah, but then when it came down to the team no no no when we were predicting you said Cardinals right and then gave all your reasons not should will I said should no you said this is what will happen my prediction Cardinals all the reasons right you listed them off then last week. We said Cardinals not gonna happen So we're down to four down to like three or four I don't even remember what we said. You said I want him to go to Denver because I think it'll be really fun with Tebow Right and what they have to do with Tebow at that point. Yep. So that's where he went. Denver Broncos Is it the best situation for him who gives a shit? Who's he throwing the ball to? They have good receivers. You just couldn't tell because their quarterback was so bad Tim Tebow is such a bad quarterback. He will speak about that in a moment. He's not a good quarterback. When you complete 40-something percent of your passes, that's not the receivers fault. I mean, they're not dropping 12% of them. It's not happening. You're just not throwing it to guys. And from people who watch tape for a living, they say, guys are open. They're open by NFL standards. They're open. Peyton's gonna hit them. Right. Thiebaud couldn't fit the ball in those spots. But those guys have talent. Demary's Thomas, he's big, fast, you saw what he could do. He had some pretty good games. Decker's pretty solid. And Manning makes guys a lot better. If he's good, if he's Manning, these guys will be fine. And you know they'll bring in like Dallas Clark, because he's around or. Jacob Tamie, cause he's around. They'll bring in some guys that Peyton knows. Tom's not signing Jeff Saturday. He's a little sad. They'll bring him in. They got a good left tackle. They have a good running game last year. They're gonna be good. So put it on the books right now. Yeah. Win losses, Denver Broncos next year. I have to look at their schedule. Really tough. They're playing... I mean I know it's a first place schedule. First place schedule. At a conference you know they're playing the Steelers. no sorry they're gonna play the Ravens they're gonna play the Pats and they're gonna play the Houston Texans you want me to tell you or do you want me to? I'm trying to rattle off some time before you find it home Raiders Chiefs Chargers well that's conference okay that's an easy skill Win-win-win Steers, Browns, Bucks Oh, they're playing the Steelers and the Ravens. That's tough and the Bengals. That's tough. Saints, Texans. Saints Wildcard at this point. We don't know. We'll talk about that in a minute. That'll be one more minute and the Texans. Texans. Tough. Then away Raiders Chiefs Chargers Ravens. Tough. Bengals. Tough. Falcons. Not easy. Panthers could be decent. Patriots. Tough. That's rough. Give me a thing. So now your Peyton Manning, new system, don't know how he's gonna be, could be rusty. If they won 10 games, that'd be a good
03 Jake: season with that schedule. I mean their division's pretty, I think they'll probably do five and one in the division and then have to win five other games. Because that's rough. I want to skip. I want to predict right now. I'll just say 10. 8. 8 games. 8? They're getting 500x here. No way. No way 10. No way. I'll say 10 because of the division. They'll win 5 in division games. That schedule is going to be brutal. They'll win 5 games in the division. The Pigman is going to be rusty for some of that game. For some of those games. So first 3 or 4 or 5 games he's going to be rusty. New system. I and I honestly think there's an outdoor effect that's gonna take whatever so I'm saying Did you see their Super Bowl odds? Like if you were to if you were to be in Vegas where gambling is legal Yeah, and you put and you wanted to bet the Broncos to win the Super Bowl on Sunday It was 75 to 1 you would have clocked down your 20 bucks or whatever and Gotten a 75 to 1 ticket. What's it now? Gotta feel good about that if you bet it on Sunday. Well, you also got to if you're a Denver Broncos fan You gotta feel good about that. So which set into motion Well, actually it's let's skip let's skip over cuz we'll make this last news All right, then this morning now we need to before the big thing was announced which we talked about the rest of the AFC Let's just hit on a couple of little things that have happened in the AFC since our last pod yep, um, the pats got brandon lloyd so last week we had this whole conversation about nobody doesn't take the money, nobody just goes for- and this fucking asshole more than lloyd, i- just goes to the pats just cause they're the pats and he wants to play there definitely could've gotten more money anywhere else You said that. I said that though people take less money to go to a team. Ridiculous. And then I read multiple counts. No I read multiple counts over the week. I was on vacation this weekend. I was down in New Orleans which I probably set some things in motion from all my activities. And I read multiple counts. This guy's going to this team because it's this team. This time he would take less money to go to this team. Absolutely untrue. He goes the pads for less money. I hate that the pads were able to get this guy cuz it's a guy who wants to go to the Super Bowl I want to go to the Super Bowl. I hate that. I hate that they were able to get like a really good receiver for I mean you put this guy next to Pierre Garcon Laurent Robinson and those guys got paid way more Then Brandon Lloyd and that's absurd to Brandon Lloyd's a far better receiver than those guys. Huh far better You know what? I think the paths are always gonna come up so annoying. All right. I hate them. All right. All right, so They sign Lloyd the fins can't sign anybody. They They signed David David garage good for them. I mean Really if that's what if they literally come out of this entire free season free agency season and that's their big signing But he won't even start Matt Moore should start over him. I know but that's like wait
00 Jake: It's a one-year one million dollar disc kind of absurd they were in that they were in the T-bow race They were in the Manning race. They were in the they were never even in the man. They were in They were looking Alex Smith couldn't get him get him even after Alex Smith had been scorned they could not get him. And I don't blame Alex Smith. I would've went back to the Niners and I just would've said, give me a couple more bucks because you hurt my feelings. And because that's a good team. And he'd go to the Dolphins, he's shit again. Right. He's the guy who you want to cut. Right. You go back to the Niners and you have another good season like you just did. Yep. And he got paid. And he got paid. And the Bills got their guy. They got Super Mario! Super Mario! They got him! That's a big signing for the Bills! It's huge! And then they just signed Mark Anderson from the Pats, who had like 12 sacks last year. So, I mean they just, they just bolstered that defensive line like, you know, first round pick last year, Darius. Williams, Anderson. I think they have another guy named Williams, like Kyle Williams or something like that. Like, their defensive ends and defensive line just got a little bit better. And they still think that Fitz is the answer to it on their offense? Yeah. That guy f***ing tanked as soon as he got two bucks in his pocket. Anywho, they just actually got people to come to Buffalo, which is a win for the Mills. That's a win. Just getting people to come, that's a victory. So good for them. Alright, let's talk about the Saints. Alright before we get to Tebow. Yep, I'm literally trying to read the news because it hasn't been... The news is rolling in. We're on Twitter as we speak, but let's talk about the Saints. So... The Saints got punished. Yeah. Big time. So I want to enter in the two pieces of news that I didn't know. If we talk about this the other day, you're on the why shouldn't this happen? This is... This is like the you're wrong podcast. I know, you're killing me. But you said, we're talking about the bounty program. And I said, listen, my real big problem with this isn't about the bounty or this or that. It's about that the NFL was very clear and said, don't do it. And that it was in their contract, in their agreement, the NFLPA, it was told, they were retold. And that's why I said, if the Pennerstins come down, they should be heavy. And everybody thought they're going to be heavy. And they have been. Here's two more pieces of information that we didn't know. That, uh, is it Scott Paoli from the, uh, the indie, the indie general manager? No. Scott Paoli's the former Pats who's currently working for the Chiefs. Oh, then who's the guy from indie who's now on ESPN? I don't know, whatever, some guy today. Okay. He said, there's two pieces of the thing. One is, they send a letter out, a memo out to every single team, every single year, twice a year, beginning of the season and the middle season, x.
12 Jake: explicitly saying to every head coach, every sub coach, every whatever coach, position coach, Seems fine. What they've done? Fine. Basically they said the head coach is now gonna be out for one year. He's suspended for an entire year. They find the team $500,000. They just find someone else $500,000. And Greg Williams is indefinitely suspended. Probably means a couple years, I would think, or they'll wait and see what happens. Probably just forever. Yeah, maybe, indefinitely. Why not? Your thoughts? If you're gonna make a point, make a point. Well that's what the big news is that they're making a point. And the point is if anybody ever thinks about doing this again, they will never ever ever ever ever. And they haven't even come up with a finance for the players yet. This is just the coaches. Well Peyton is out for the whole year. Sean Peyton. He's not getting paid. Just seven million dollars. That's... a lot of money. Yep. I mean it's not a lot to me but it's a lot to most people. Because I have yeah. Super rich. And I know like some of the assistants got the six eight games. Yes. The GM got eight games. It is what it is. I mean you know they basically laid down the law and they said it. You guys, you guys fucked up royally and we're gonna make it so that this never ever happens again. Right. Ever. No one will even mention this ever again. No one will even think about doing this again. Question for you. So this is the Saints. So again I was just down in the early. It is the Saints. I drove right by the Superdome. The Mercedes these bends super go? Yeah I did. much closer to the city than I thought it was gonna be. It's in the city. Yeah I mean yeah it's just I thought it's just much closer than I thought it was. That's because you're used to driving into the swamp. That's right I'm so used to although I saw that on the way back on the flight back I could both see my house and on one side of the plane and I could see the MetLife Stadium on the other. It was very cool. Was that like Nirvana? Yeah it was a little bit of Nirvana. So Saints, this upcoming year, they were one of the teams would have been slated right in there for Totally true For a Super Bowl run, now they have two issues. One, they've just been slammed with this, right? Which is taking away their head coach for the year, which is taking away their GM break games, which is taking away multiple coaches. I don't know about how impactful the GM is during the course of the season. But the guy who played, who called the plays? Yes. Peyton being out for the season is very hard. And that's Drew, that's one. Thing two, Drew Brees is now a, he's a... He's franchise. He's franchise, right. But as a player, that's not your, that's not where you wanna be. So they're in an upheaval kind of point and bear. They are.
01 Jake: wins for them next year. Are they a playoff contender next year or does this bring them back into the weekend? It's hard to say. There's two ways to look at it. There's the one which is there's no possible way that this team could put put it together. And there's the other one which is the This makes them stronger kind of thing like we're gonna prove that we can do this We're gonna you know, everyone thinks we're dicks everyone hates us No one thinks we can win without our head coach without our this without our that I Think they'll be fine. They have good talent drew Brees is really good that offense worked fine when I know Peyton's not going to be around to do it, but I think at this point Drew Brees could probably figure it out, like he's been there long enough. And the offensive coaching staff is still there, like they're not suspended or anything like that. So the guy who came in and called the plays when Peyton was on the... on the mend last year with the broken leg or whatever. I think they won't be as good as what they probably could have been had none of this happened. Spagnolo is there. I think he will likely be tapped to be the acting head coach. I don't think they'll be that bad. It won't be a catastrophe. Somewhere between 9 and 11 wins. Yeah, I feel like this was a 12 win team that just got knocked down at 10. I feel like this is a 2 win knock. Well yeah, your head coach if he means anything, then you're gonna get knocked down from where you were to like, you know... I also think that it turns it just like here's here's my analogy just like an indie last year Peyton goes out not gonna play for the year that team went from a team that the year before was a playoff Contender to a team that could not win a fucking game now I'm glad they actually did win a game, but they could not win a fucking game to save their life They just imploded. And I feel like if the Saints come out, here's my prediction, if the Saints come out, fire on all cylinders, win a couple games, get their mojo going, no problem. They go on to a good season, make the playoffs, and do whatever they do. If they come on, they lose a couple games. One, two, God forbid, three games in a row. that team just holds up. They'll say, you know what, fuck this. We got, we have our excuse. Peyton Manning's off our team. I'm sorry. Our head coach, whatever. They'll just say, we got our excuse, we're out, you know, and you'll just see them kind of implode for the year. Because I think there's a mental thing about players just to be, you know what, that's it. This season, this season's cursed. You know, there's voodoo on this season. Yeah, I don't, I think, I don't think that is gonna happen. I think they're veteran enough, Drew Brees is. a solid enough leader in the locker room. Justin: Yeah, who's playing for a team that won't give a long-term contract? Jake: Yeah, maybe they will now. Oh, I think the smartest thing for the fans to do right now is sign him for whatever he wants to do,
01 Jake: make it a big statement, maybe wait a week, turn the thing around to like, listen, we are here, we've got our quarterback for the future, we are a winning team, we're going forward. forward. I will say no one they can't ride this for the next nine months. I can't like make this like their cry, but Again, they come in the season. They lose couple. Well, they could make it their thing like okay. Well they can they could say we were Unjustly punished. All right. They took our coach away from us for the whole season It should have been four games, but now it's the whole thing. He's banished like the word banished was used like Meaning he's not even allowed to anywhere near them. Like, banish. Like, you go to Africa for the year and come back. Justin: Africa? Jake: Go anywhere. Right. Go to Iraq. Like, goodbye. Somewhere. Right. Anywhere. Not... Go to Canada. Canada? Yeah. Toronto. Go coach the Argonauts. And... think you rally around that I get I don't I can see the Super Bowls in New Orleans that was the thing they were like That was their thing for this year. They really wanted to be that team that did that's a curse as well Yeah, I don't know teams ever done it never really wanted to do it and now they don't get that chance Yeah, all right. So moving on Alright, so that's it for the podcast. Thanks. Go to checking him.com. Oh one more note on the Saints. Oh, yeah, what's that? Apparently Warren sapp has outed Jeremy Shockey as the so-called rat. Oh Yeah, I Could imagine that and there were specific targets that have now come out, but he was an offensive player Yeah, he was which means more than just the defense knew about it. And that's a true statement. There have been some specific players, by the way, that have now come out as bounty targets. Among them, Cam Newton, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner. Senator. And Aaron Rodgers, mostly quarterbacks. All four of those are quarterbacks. That's true. Apparently, they have been specifically targeted by the bounty hunters. The bounty hunters, I like it. They gotta remake that as a movie. Alright, well that's it. So no other news? Anything else? Anything else? I'm just reading a little bit about this Saints thing as I keep doing it. There were emails, offering to contribute thousands of dollars to the pot. Alright, let's get on to the real news. I just never really read about this. So at the same time that it broke today, and if you guess you're living in a hole of the Jets and have never ever picked up the newspaper or anything for the last six hours, Um... Once demanding signing, it became an intermediate, well, where's Tebow going? Most people predicted that he'd be headed to the Dolphins or Jaguars because they need quarterbacks
00 Jake: and they're in Florida and he's got a base there. But all of a sudden, as of like last night or early this morning, it became like this thing that the Jets are interested in Tebow. I reacted like most people reacted, what? That doesn't make any sense. And then... Fuck if it doesn't come out at whatever time today, noon I think or 1 o'clock or whatever. The Jets traded with the Denver Broncos for Tim Tebow. They traded a fourth and a seventh and they got back a sixth. The fourth and sixth and got back a seventh. I think that's the way it is. Whatever. It's a fourth. The sixth and seventh are like whatever. for Timmy Tebow to go to the Jets. We were gonna come on the podcast and do a whole thing about whether that's good or not good or whatever, but then it comes across later, so this is why the podcast. I think we should still do that. Well, okay, well, let's just bring up the whole news so they know that we're talking as it happens. Then it came out later that there's a contract problem in that. That's it. Tim Tebow's contract, he was prepaid money for a couple of seasons, $5 million, but it's for a couple different seasons, and by the Broncos, and now with the trade, the Broncos are asking the Jets, hey, give me back that money. Like, I already paid for his money for these next couple seasons. It seems like a little tiny clause that someone would have figured out, but now the trade is sort of up in the air. So this whole thing about the payment is in the contract apparently yes but it wasn't so there's two sides of it one is it's in the contract you should see it and before you make a trade you should read the contract of the player whom you're getting and right know that that is there But then there's also the part, so that's like Poop on Jet's face, right? But then there's also the part of Denver not really mentioning it in any of the trade talks like, oh by the way, you're gonna have to reimburse us for that. Right. Because presumably it's in the contract, and even if you saw it in the contract, you wouldn't know that you have to... Pay back to Denver cuz Denver's already paid. Yeah, right Usually in trades I don't feel like I hear of trades happening and then one team having to give money back to another team back to another team No, when you get a player you paid him going to play right now. This is in a weird circumstance because it was I guess it was in there from like the old CBA and he was a first round pick so it was a way to sort of like front load and back load cap money and this and that and the other. Don't even I'm not even gonna pretend to understand why it is the way it is. But the guy was paid for this season next season and the season after that already. And he was paid already by the Broncos. And the Broncos have said to the Jats. If you're gonna get Tim Tebow you owe us that five million dollars, and I will say this I don't give a shit
01 Jake: Oh, sorry. Oh, well. That's not what I was gonna say huh I Do give a shit, okay, and I? Don't give a shit about five million dollars what I give a shit about is if they have to give the Broncos five million dollars And have that five million dollars count against the jet salary cap Oh, this year? Then I'd give a shit Oh yeah, totally If it's five million dollars, that's a rounding error for Woody Like really, what is... I know that's a flippant thing to say Like that's five million, that's a lot of money Three years, whatever, three or four years And this guy owns an NFL football team which is worth billions of dollars Yeah, it's not that But let's put it all aside because I don't care. Let's talk about the actual trade and let's talk about it from The pros and cons of it. Okay, who do you want to take pro or con? Well, I have both I Have pros and I have cons. I've thought about it. I know you have but do you want to take pro or con? Why do I have to take one take one? We're gonna do this is like oh Well, since I was more pro than con I'll take pro go Tell me why this is a good deal. So... Give me one point. Just one? And I'm gonna counter. Oh my god, this is gonna be so awesome. Ugh. Why didn't you set this up as in the agenda that I would have to do? Well, alright. So, the Jets have hired new offensive coordinator. Mm-hmm. Sperano. They're gonna get back to their identity under Rex Ryan as a running, pounding, smash-mouth team. and in a specialized package Tim Tebow can be a very effective football player on the field. Don't need to call him a quarterback, call him a football player who's on the field who makes football plays on offense. And in that ground and pound rugged physical style, he can be a very effective player in spurts on the field. That sounds great. Why give away a pick in an upcoming draft for a sort of very effective football player? Because I would feel like for a fourth round pick, you know what, I can get a very effective football player in the fourth round. Why would I, why should I, that's my counter to that is, yeah, but you can get a very effective football player in the draft. You can get a very effective football player in the draft that you don't know is effective in the draft. Cause you're drafting him. Right. We've never seen him do. But we've never seen him do what we're going to want him to do. Yeah, we did. We just saw him do it. No, we saw him do a quarterback. Yeah, but that's what we want him to do. That is exactly what we want him to do. No, we want him to play the Brad Smith package. No. From the quarterback spot, we want him to line up as a quarterback and do what he does best, run the football, and throw it occasionally to keep people off guard. That's exactly what
03 Jake: we want him to do. Shit, we don't even know what we want him to do. We might want him to line up as a fullback. Who knows? We might want him to line up at the tight end. He's a football player. Okay. Who knows? Who knows what? That's the thing. We don't actually know what they wanted him to do So to say that you could draft a guy in the fourth round to do what he does effectively Well, not really he was I don't think all right I don't think he's a good quarterback. No. I hate him as a quarterback. Yup. But I think he's an effective runner. He's hard to tackle. Yup. In certain formations, he's tricky with the ball. He can run that tricky option-read play better than most. If not, one of the best. I mean, maybe Mike Vick runs it better. just because he's more elusive, but he's hard to tackle. He does that well. So if you run that play five to 10 times a game and instead of picking a fourth round guy, you have this guy who you know his role and what he can do, a lot of fourth rounders go bust. Justin: I think Brad Smith was fourth or fifth round, maybe. Jake: Yeah, I mean, for every Brad Smith, there's a Joe Schmo. Yeah, true. Here's why this is... and again, I have... That's A-Pro. A-Pro? Yeah. My first con is that this sets a bad press con... a bad view on the jets. that it puts the jets in a position of sort of a desperate attention-seeking ticket selling. Like the teams that we were talking about Tim Tebow going to needed Tim Tebow not for quarterbacking but for take-it sales. Jaguars and the Dolphins were going to get him so they could have Tebow Day and Tebow Time and you know posters and whatever. To think that the Jets need that in any way, even if they don't want it, to think that they would get it. Just means that like this team's kind of lost its identity. It's not it's becoming a team of it You know, it's becoming a team of individuals Not a team that plays together and pulling in this totally Horrising individual who ran quarterbacks out of out of town before I think it could be a huge mistake. That's if you take the tack that they did this for not a football reason. Well, there's no, it doesn't matter if there's a football reason behind it, it is what it is. You get the baggage with the player. You can't get Plexigal Burris without the fact that he played in the Super Bowl and shot himself in the foot. But you're just saying that the Jets come out of this looking like attention-seeking PR move when in reality that's Not needing it needing it not that they didn't need it
00 Jake: I I feel like the Jets There's a little bit of the Jets now and as a huge just fans I'm beginning to feel like the Jets need that adrenaline every year of like having the thing But why was I could miss have just been a football move Cause that's what it is, you're getting a football player. This wasn't the Dolphins where he would have started. This wasn't the Jaguars where he would have started. It wasn't gonna start. He's gonna play 10 plays a game. So give me another positive. Another pro? Another pro. Cause I have good cons too. No, give me a pro. Another one. Yeah, you said you had many. I have many pros. I think he brings a intensity to the game that is necessary. Like he brings a real fiery positive energy to the football field. When you like... it actually sucked to root against him last year when he beat the Jets because it's like holy fuck this guy just went down the field and that and he like knew that he was going to do that it was a real like positive energy when he was on the field and I feel like he could have brought that you know if you have the package you bring him in and the play's gonna work like that that there's that feeling about it He will bring a very negative energy to the locker room. This is a locker room that was already torn apart last year. Already had... Do you believe this or do you just want to say this to me? No, I'm saying this is true. This is the con. I believe it to be... But he's not a negative person. Here's the problem. I both think this is a good football move and I think it's a horrible personnel move. It is both. That's where I'm coming from this. I'm just giving you the horrible personnel look. But he's not a- But he's not a- So that con is not a counterpoint to my point. Yes it is. Because you're saying he's a positive player on the field and brings in energy. I'm saying what he will do to the Jets locker room. The Jets locker room that was fucked up last year. The Jets locker room was shit leaked out where- quarterbacks were being called out, where wide receivers were calling out people, where the offensive line was calling out the wide receivers, that never sort of got it together. That all this locker room needs to do is go and play, is now gonna get one of the most divisive locker room people, even as a human. But he wasn't divisive in the locker room. Yes he is. But he wasn't. Not in Denver. He stunk up the joint and nobody... ever said a word about him. He was divisive because people started to look. When there was something that went bad on the field, people started to look and say, hey look, this is what's going to happen. This is what would happen. I don't like it, but this is what will happen. The fans of the New York Jets, and this is what everybody's, you know, cleaned immediately is, that's great if you have this guy who can do this stuff. But we've made a commitment to a quarterback.
01 Jake: And that quarterback, if he starts to do something like that two-pick game, or isn't doing as good, immediately what's gonna happen? Two things. One, the fans are gonna go nuts, screaming, T-bo, T-bo, T-bo, and booing Sanchez every time he comes on the field. That's great. Second is, in the locker room, this is why I'm saying it's divisive in the locker room. players are going to start to do that. Players are going to start to want. The reason they're going to start to want the part is because they got the guy there. They wanted Kyle or Nana there. They didn't think he would win. They thought they would win. So they started him and they started believing in him. That's what will happen in the locker room. Sort of, some guys will be like, there will be some guys. Then there will be the guys thinking that T-Bo can do the job. I think that's where he separates the locker room. Not from him being a negative guy, but just from him being a force. But that didn't happen in Denver. It did. It did not. When Kyle Orton was there, it did. That's what happened in the locker room. It did not. First off, they're totally separate situations. Well, they are. Because Denver hired a new coach and a new VP in John L.A. and a new staff that inherited. Tim Tebow. They didn't want Tim Tebow. There's a big difference between going out and trading for a guy saying, I want him and putting him on the team, then inheriting a guy that you don't want. You don't think there will be a problem? No, I think there will be a problem if... I don't think it'll be a problem in the locker room. I think it'll be a problem with fans that as soon as Sanchez has a bad half in one game in game three when they're 2-0 but Sanchez throws two picks in the first half people will start yelling t-bow t-bow t-bow but that's fans that's not a lot like that would happen the locker room. Nah I don't I think I think he handles it he handled the Denver thing very well I thought they were like, but they did turn their whole season around and go to the playoffs and win a playoff game against the Steelers. So like, it's not like it wasn't warranted either. Like it wasn't a bad decision. They didn't make a bad move. They made a good move. They weren't winning. Then they won. They made a move too. basically to shut up the fans and it blew up in their face. From a Denver ownership perspective, that way- Yeah, because they didn't want him. Right. But this is a different scenario. It's a team that wants him. All right. Clearly the Jets want him. What's another pro? Well, I wanna go to my cons. And what am I- All right, go to your cons. I'll go to the pros. I'll go to the pros. Fine.
00 Jake: I don't care. I feel like that con of having- A guy like that who is not a quarterback, who is on your roster, that people think can play quarterback is a bad thing. Because we have this guy in Sanchez, and if anyone said it, we've been the ones who've been saying it. You gotta lay off. Cause, 30 year quarterbacks don't do what he's done. Like, he's done more than any 30 year quarterback. In-in-in- Look at the stats, it's there. He- anyone who wants to jump on the bandwagon of the regression and the- and the going backwards and the this and the that. If 8 and 8 is the worst thing in the world, I'm a Happy Jet fan. Cause that means, that's my- that's my- that's my low watermark. Everything's bonus from there, but having this guy on the roster as a quarterback means that like I said the scenario being 2-0 and in the first half of the game against against The Steelers who were playing next year Sanchez throws two picks and it's like well, it's the Steelers they do that They make everyone look bad And people are calling for T-bone and it breaks that like momentum of We play for the place doers in the Steelers, but it's okay. Maybe they'll be those five or six fans going whatever it is You don't have to be there. You can do it on Twitter You can do it any like you don't have to be there to feel that like it's it's in the air. Yep, and I think from the positive, and again, it's just sort of looking back. You don't have to counterpoint that. There's no positive counterpoint. No, I'm not counterpointing it. I'm saying as the way, because I've been saying all the negatives. There's no positive spin to that though. Like that is just a negative. No, I'm not counterpointing that. I'm saying another point. And that is that. See, look, it's even divisive on this podcast. You're divisive. I think there's something you started with, but I think there's something really interesting about, you know, for the two years that we went to the AFC, I know this is all making an analogy, but the two years that we make the go to the AFC Championship, we win, we win games and we have this package and it's called the Brad Smith package. And you know what? We always said, it always worked. It was never something that didn't work. It always worked. It worked for touchdowns, it worked for first downs, it worked for second downs, it worked for third and shorts. And you know, to think that the guy who brought open and brought the, you know, the wild cut back to the NFL in Sperano, wants to get a guy who he can use in the system. And then bring that back to the Jets where it was working. Hey, that sounds great. Again, I think this is the double sided of this deal. It is a great, great, great football player transaction. A fourth round for a highly athletic...
00 Jake: All-around guy because if you said fourth round for Brad Smith for those two years It's a great great great addition to the team But then you throw in its Tim Tebow a very polarizing player who has Who's it's not even polarizing from the from an NFL standpoint. He's beyond the NFL. He has religious Pieces to him that make him polarizing in the in the rest of the world people who don't even know about the NFL Some of them say I hate Tim Tebow or I love Tim T. Bo because he's highly religious or because he is how I hate him So like he brings all that fan attention and I was really looking forward to going into this season Sort of not being the team that everybody wanted to go up and punch in the face When we were on Hard Knocks, we were the team that everybody wanted to come up and punch the face. Because it's like, oh you fucking obnoxious jets. The year before, it's like, because Rex Ryan was talking so much, right? So the year before the first year it was, Rex Ryan's making all these things, I'm not gonna kiss anybody's rings. Second year it's Hard Knocks, you write a book. Like, I was really looking forward to going into a year where... We weren't just those the jets that everybody wants to beat down just to shut the fuck up I feel like if you signed Tim Tebow Even though there's gonna be some great Aspects to his on the field stuff and it would help them win games. I feel like the negatives Are there as well? I don't know if they outweigh you can't say until we look at the end of the season in a year from now and if We we're all in Norleans at Super Bowl. We'll be like, oh, yeah, the greatest signing ever Of course now we have to bring into the fact that we don't even know this is gonna happen It's so funny cuz I've been like I haven't really been all that into Twitter as far as Jets news recently and When it got announced There were so much hate around it like oh, this is terrible I hate this and now that it's like in this limbo state people are hating on the Jets for fucking it up. So it's like, damned if you do damned if you don't. It's like, you suck Jets, why would you bring in Tebow? You suck Jets, you can't get Tebow. What is that? So it's great because it hasn't happened yet. So because it's literally, the new last thing I say, Jets and Jags are now in discussions with Broncos about potential Tim Tebow deals. There might be a three way deal going on here. So, we are going to try to figure out how we can do this. Here's the thing, stop looking through Twitter and look at me. I want you to make two things. Go on. Do you want this deal to happen? Now we have the choice, because like two hours ago, it was done. Oh yeah, that's true. Right, we now have a choice. Now you can say, it's like yes or no, do you want this deal to happen and do you think it's a good deal for the Jets? Or do you want it to fall through and to move on with their lives? Alright, so this morning, I walked into this podcast studio. Yes, our office. and our coworker was sitting there and he's a Giants fan and he started laughing at me and he said, you're gonna get Tim Tebow so he was reading all the rumors and I said, that's not happening
00 Jake: right, and I said, but I'll tell you this if it does happen I for one will think it's a good deal depending on what they give up, right They give up a first round pick for him, I'll be upset. But if it's just random picks and they get Tim Tebow, I will be happy about it. Okay. And he said, you will? Why do you want him? And I said, well, because I think we have Tony Sperano who's gonna wanna ground the shit out of the ball. He's gonna wanna get back to running, and get back to that style of beating people up. Love yous! Bye! offense and I think Tim Tebow package can be valuable for 10 12 plays a game 10 to 12. Yeah Cuz he'll throw the ball once in a while. It's not gonna be the Brad Smith package. It's gonna be the Tim Tebow package It's gonna be different. He will throw the ball There'll be some trickery there'll be some chicanery There'll be third and one plays where he's running guys over and he'll be the goal. I'm back like right I think it works. So you're for it. So you want this to happen now. I really, I actually, no, I want it to happen before it happened. Well, I know, but then it happened and then it unhappened. I was happy about it. All right, so you're- When it happened, I was happy about it. So you're happy, well- There was the one- But as a Jets fan, I'm always happy for the Jets. There was the one drawback of the mental psyche of- and I think people make too much of it. I happen to think Sanchez can get through it It's just a matter of how much shit can one man take like if he has that one or two games stretch Where they lose two in a row right and they go from six and two to six and four and it's like oh the season's Slipping away Sanchez fucked up. He threw a pick six in that game and he fumbled in the other game that it not get out of control and that's the hard part because the kid did take a team that was in the dumps and bring him to the playoffs and win a playoff game as essentially a rookie so there are very inventive ways to use him He's a dynamic football player on offense and You put the ball in his hands. He can do a lot with it because he can run but you and he can throw I understand but you're willing to take all yeah. I thought it was a good football move considering our offensive Coordinate but taking everything Taking in Sanchez. I thought it was a good move. Taking in the fans. Well, I happen to think Sanchez is going to have a really good season, so I don't think it will matter. So sitting there, I would say one thing that I have not liked about this whole thing is not one, but not two, but three broadcasters today, and not you. I have been talking about how fragile Sanchez is. There's this narrative around him that just stuck. Like he's regressed. He's not good. He can't win and he's fragile when he's been nothing but any of those things
02 Jake: I don't really understand how this narrative has stuck to this guy and jet fans included Just buy right into it. They're just like oh he sucks. He hasn't had a losing season yet He hasn't had a season under 500 He missed the playoffs once but what? Two years he did make the playoffs and once the playoff games like How fickle? Well, that is fans. That's unfair. I'm gonna say that I was giving my wife crap She so my wife's a Dolphins fan. I've said that a million times 142 times She said literally if Tebow goes to the Dolphins this was before obviously a couple days ago over the weekend She said she would not be a fan of the Dolphins for the entire time that he was on the thing would give up and would be a Jets fan. So I was very happy to have him go to the Dolphins because I figured well I got another Jets fan in the house and I get to give a shit for like basically a year or two years until she divorces me. Then it got to go into Jets. I was like, ah, I don't really think that's gonna happen. It happened and I was like, you know what? I love it from a personnel from from like a player standpoint from like putting the putting the pieces on the board and watching them play. Again, if you just said we did well with the Brad Smith package, we need someone to run it, this guy can run it probably better because he can do more. He can go up the middle. He can be a big... Brad Smith can never like rush the ball because he wasn't big enough. This guy go right up the middle and smash through ten people to get it. Well on 31, the Broncos play was... And the T-bow run for the yard. Yeah. That's it. On the goal line, on two-point conversions, they didn't miss those things. And it seemed to me that Sanchez, as a player that was, that had those moments where he went over to the sidelines and sat out and it always, you know, it's always that weird thing of like, why you take the most important guy out. It seemed to me in those two years that we did better. It seemed like it helped him. It took him away from the game for a second. It gave him a breather. It whatever. He's not Peyton Manning yet. He's not gonna sit and coordinate the whole thing. He's a young guy. He's got to learn. Give a thing or two to go sit over and read over your books before he comes back in. So on that point I was really happy. I just... and if he gets signed and he turns into a jet, I will be happy for it. The Jets and I think it is a good player move. I think there are... so many things that are just you just know are gonna happen and and that when I hear that training camp Tim Tebow comes out and then Sanchez comes out and they boo Sanchez I will think that this is a bad thing if I if I'm sitting in the fans in the in set in the stadium and there's and Sanchez comes out and they boo him or Tim Tebow they start the whole stadium starts erupting into Tebow Tebow Tiibo when you know Casanchez throws a pick then I'll know it's a bad deal because if this takes our franchise quarterback and sets him back and makes him and makes the fans disenchanted with him even more than they are already then we have lost then we are not getting a good player we are we are throwing away
01 Jake: a good player and we're getting an act we're getting up just another guy who can run the ball and we can go pick up in the fourth round so that's where I feel about it if for some miracle That doesn't happen and he is just the thing that he's supposed to be this packaged guy and he works out with Sanchez and everybody Happens great But I have this incredible fear that the way the fans are and the way it happened in Denver and that it'll just It'll turn into this nightmare publicity thing. And so again from a guy on the field. I love it from what it does to the jets yet to be seen but I have extreme fear of what it could happen and that's it. All right well that's it. Has it happened yet? Can you lay this news? So right now it's between the Jags and the Jets. I'm just looking at Adam Schefter's. He's a good person to look at. Twitter feed and... His latest tweet was an hour ago said Tim Tebow trade Now expected to come down either the Jaguars or the Jets Jaguars make a play to get the player. They felt planned earlier It's like a shifty move by the Broncos like well, they're now saying that it's the Jets who didn't read the contract Oh, that's why I said earlier the Jets didn't read the contract, but the Broncos didn't tell him about it Whatever and it's like the Broncos asking for money back.
