20 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast, longest running New York Jets podcast, period, end of sentence. I'm Jake, joining me 309 times in a row. There's a 9er in there somewhere. Justin, Justin, how are you progressing? How's your foot? I don't know. I don't know where it just started hurting. Your foot yesterday. Justin: Your foot's not feeling well? I felt, you know, a little, a little ding here, you know, here and there on Sunday. And then I don't know where I was just in a walking boot yesterday. Jake: Can we just, we have to talk about this. We can go back and talk about the fucking dolphins game, whatever. We're going trash fire that it was. But I've I'm now having my worst case scenario rollout. I know you're like super positive and I read the silver lining articles this morning. Silver lining. Sam Donald who was having some issues now gets to kind of watch the game and kind of sit and learn and This was almost the worst case scenario There's two things I kept saying from the beginning of the season that I wanted. A, him not to get hurt Sorry, he got hurt. Two, I Seriously hurt would be the top of the pick but like now it's just hurt. And two, questionable whether he's hurt Oh, you think this conspiracy theory Justin's here to say no he's bird is with me bird doesn't know shit about shit I think that this is a very questionable Hold on injury. Hold on Second thing is I wanted to see him get better. I wanted to see game in and game out Not you know, I expected the first four games to be just shit shows and then maybe kind of progress and get better. But statistically and by the eye test, yeah, last game was his worst game that he's played. Like no way around it. He threw four picks. He was off. He was, we could not drive the ball. Like, yes, and millions of reasons. And we can all sit here and just pile up the excuse train. No players, no this, no that, no talent, no whatever. Bad coaching. No practice. It was no practice. It was. It was. too warm, the dolphins, the sun was in their eyes, like, you know, Gatorade wasn't red when it should have been purple. Whatever. Should have been. We could do all that forever. But the reality is he kind of has gotten worse. Like that last game was the worst game he's done. And there were games before that he was better in. And so I just like as a Jets fan, I'm like, oh shit, really? Like, is this what we need right now? Like, couldn't he just get a just just have a normal season? Justin: Couldn't he just play this game? Because right. This is this is a gimme.
00 Justin: This is a layup. I know the Bills defense is actually fairly decent. I'll stand up for them a little bit there, but they have the worst quarterback who's ever played professional football as a star. Jake: Which one? Peterman. Oh, okay, because I think there's like probably three guys on the roster that are all the worst players Justin: Yeah, but Peterman's the worst and this is unfortunate because I Mean, we'll do our predictions later, but Josh McCown's gonna win this game You're gonna win the game and guess what if Josh McCown played last week would probably won that game, too At this point, at this very juncture, Josh McCown is a better professional football player than Sam Donald right this minute. Will that be the case at the start of next season? I would hope not. But this season, I think that was always going to be true. Jake: that you could always say to yourself, man, if Josh played that game, we may have won. No, because you should see things. There should be something that a 21-year-old with mobility and chutzpah and a better arm should come out and you should go, you know what, that play or that drive? Sam made that happen and Josh couldn't make that happen. Just remember Josh had the number one puntiest punters of all the punts because he could not drive the ball. And many games we've gone and said this team look how well they did. They drove the ball. Like when they needed to. Justin: But this Dolphins game was just a trash fire. I mean I think you're... you're forgetting a little bit because the record wasn't very good and the account didn't play in the last like three or four games last year but he's not terrible like that's the thing he's he's not awful um he had a good season by all accounts last year and while they weren't like you know Blowing the house down and winning all these games. They were also Really devoid of talent last year like they have more this year than they did last year Jake: Do you really think we have more talent on the team? Who's on this team playing this week that you think is more talented than was playing last year? Well last year it was Robbie Anderson, Jermaine curse Those two guys are still around One of them's hurt and one of them looks worse than he did last year. Chris doesn't look good. He looks worse than last year. Last year he was a little more reliable. Justin: Just looks a little slower and also droppier. Well, he's the number one option and that's not okay. Like last year he was not the number one option. A noon was been in and out in and out and like even last week he played but he didn't play a lot He didn't play like every snap. He wasn't out there for a majority of the snaps so I mean i'll just say I and there have been games where we've said like wow that cleveland game that thursday night game Like when things started going a little bit south for in the second half when Mayfield came in and all of a sudden like the momentum shifted if we would have pulled the
04 Justin: Same thing and thrown Josh McCown in the game. We probably won that game maybe last week In the third quarter like after like maybe after the pick six whenever that happens Like if they go to the reliever and they go to McCown, he's, I'm telling you, he's going to look good on Sunday. Jake: Here's the other thing that I think I'm, you know, in the bad news bears was that one of the things about Darnold was that he was supposed to have this incredible turn it around, right? We saw it week one, throws a pick six to open the game. and then played well. Like literally came back and played well. He kind of forgot that he, you know, almost cost the game at the beginning of the game. And you know, everything else went right. Four deceptions. We had our own pick six. We had a, you know, punt return. Like we were doing everything else right. But again, last week in watching him, I watched him sanchise himself. I watch him Just get worse and worse and worse and worse and he just was digging a hole and he couldn't get out of his head and he just Then he just started throwing the really fucking stupid Interceptions it wasn't the you know tip pass type of thing It was like the guy's standing there and he's looking at you and he's going hi I'm here and he's like I'll throw it to you like they were just really bad. Yeah, there were there were two pretty bad ones Justin: one was He just didn't see Kiko Alonzo at all, and he had a checkdown, and he didn't take it. And that was the second time that he's done that in two weeks, where against the Bears, he had a checkdown that he didn't take and tried to go down the field. And he did it again with Miami. This time it was intercepted. The other time it just went incomplete. Jake: I don't necessarily mind that, like, especially watching this offense, they don't throw the ball down the field a whole hell of a lot. It's kind of annoying. Kind of forecast, too. I mean, you can cut. Justin: I mean, if you're playing the Jets, you should just have 10 guys standing Jake: there within 15 yards in the line of scrimmage, maybe all 11. Maybe that's why we scored three points, because they know that. They know it. And we can't run through it. No. Justin: Because that's the only way it'll work. Like, you have to run through this crap. And it ain't happening. The center is an abomination. Jake: I don't understand. Well, okay. I mean, this is, well I guess we're getting into the game now. I'm sitting there with my Dolphins fan life. Yup. Watching the game. We actually weren't watching it in real time. We were watching it in TiVo time, which is really annoying. Especially when they're losing, because you're like, oh god, as every second goes by, is it going to get worse? Thanks for watching. Please hit the like button. We were off by like 45 minutes because of the marathon. And my freaking wife, who, you know her very well. She's not the biggest talented football pronosicator in the world. She's a fan, but you know, a side fan. Like the one who couldn't name more than three players on her team who weren't the
02 Jake: starting quarterback and you know, whatever. um She was even like, why is that center still in? He looks terrible. He's ruining your game. She's like, as a dolphin stand, I don't even want to see him there anymore. It's ridiculous. It's embarrassing. It's hard to watch. And I'm sitting there going, and when he came back out that second time, I was like, he's going to fuck this up. The one that Sam caught, like a basketball player, like a baseball player, and we jumped up and grabbed it. So many. So many. But you're great. But you're and the side. and then another one that where he had to go fumble around and grab it. And that's also when people get hurt, too. But he's fumbling trying to get the ball 40, 20 yards into his own backfield. I am, I am still... I mean, I just want to stop. I just want to say one last thing and then I'll stop. That was fireable. Like to me, bowls, if there's any reason, if you want to say one thing, not sitting that center... After the three bad snaps and just going dude, it's not your day It's like when a kicker is kicking back Sometimes you say we're gonna go for it on fourth down and we're gonna go on to you Just don't keep going on it and keep has he has this thing where he's not willing to make a fucking change Justin: Our head coach is super stubborn and he's like the only reason why I even pulled him was because he was injured He was like, it's like, yeah, he was throwing balls like a clearly injured like he's like, otherwise he's our starting He would have kept playing It's like so you would have let him snap the ball over the guy's head 30 times and you would have just well, he's the starting center. So he's playing really Jake: That alone was so fireable and I know we're all I think everybody's on fire coach bowls and I was ready to fire this dude Like a while ago. Justin: Well, I was like, all right, let's give him this year. It'll be the Jeff Fisher season of the Jared Goff story. Fine. He'll have this lame duck bullshit coach that knows shit about offense. And we'll have to try and piece it together with whatever they got. They fire their offensive coordinator. here. So this is the third offensive coordinator in three years under Todd Bowles. So clearly he's a fuckup when it comes to that. He has no idea and the defenses don't finish in the top 10 either. Even though the defense played fucking awesome. Jake: The defense did everything to win this game. Yeah, everything to win this game. Justin: Although they'll do a pick six themselves. They didn't even give up a touchdown. Right. They give up two field goals. Doulton's didn't do anything. Jake: And you notice who's calling the plays on defense.
00 Jake: Todd Bowles. Justin: Yeah. He's a defensive coordinator. Yeah. That's it. Jake: Nope. And he, we- Fair enough. You're a good defensive coordinator. Go do that somewhere. We have Peter principled this so many times in a row. It's like. And it's interesting, because when we go out there in the market now, are we gonna be going for the PETA principle again, and just hoping we land a good one? We're gonna hire an offensive coach. Well, if we don't, I might just have to do some interesting. They're gonna hire Justin: an offensive coach, or they're gonna do the thing that I would've been excited about three or four years ago, but I'm not super excited about it now, which is. Which is. Which is. Which is. Thanks for watching! Jake: I'll see you next time! Bye! Justin: the retread because I have a feeling Harbaugh is gonna be fired out of Baltimore. I have a feeling he's done in Baltimore. I don't know if he's the fit. I don't think he is but he's won with teams that were built just like the Jets Jake: before. Right great defense. But he also had Rex Ryan as his defensive coordinator. Didn't he win with Rex? as the D coordinator? Justin: No. No? When he won the Super Bowl. When he won the Super Bowl, Rex was already the Jets head coach. Remember, he was a rookie head coach the same year that Rex was a rookie head coach. And it was very strange, because these guys had these. Or maybe they were like one year apart where they had these young quarterbacks that they were winning and getting to the playoffs with these rookie quarterbacks and rookie head coaches. He's done a fine job in Baltimore. I just don't I don't know. I don't feel like he's the guy for New York. Jake: I want an offensive minded head coach. Justin: that can come in, put in a real system, and like, it be driven from the top. And let the defense, again, the Rams were really smart. They hired an offensive guru to run that team, and he was smart, and hired Wade Phillips to run the defense. Right. Jake: You basically have a head coach running your defense. Again, I know it will never happen. We've talked about it a hundred times. Let's get Rex in there. I would love to have Rex in there. Run our defense, buddy. That's right. And just crush. I want a top 2D. He'll never do it. He'll never do it. I know he'd never do it, but it would be. It's exactly what the, if you're going to get that young offensive head coach, you need the defensive. Even I can't. We don't like him, but like the Greg Williams type, the someone who's just been around, they know how to put, they're going to put in their system. They're going to coach them. And they're going to make them a good players. They're going to make them. And if they've been a head coach before, even better. Yes. Because then they can like, really make them head coach the defense. Right. They can, it's the defense to do their own. It's kind of what we did with Rex. Like we got Rex. He was the defensive guy and then who was the first? Was it Marty? Ready? Well, no, Sean. I'm Sean. I'm as a holdover. Right. Justin: And has continued. He's actually. He's Seattle's offensive coordinator right now. Yeah.
00 Justin: But then once he was done with Sean Heimer, we blamed him for everything. After three years. Thanks for watching! of actually three good years, then I think they brought in like Tony Sperano or something. Jake: Was that the one year of the T-Bow bullshit? Justin: We had him, yep, for like a year of bullshit of T-Bow and then I think he brought in um... shit. Who did he bring? Jake: Marty, no? Marty Morningway, glass did like one year. Might have been two, but yeah. Justin: Like they, none of these guys last. Offensive coordinators don't last on the Jets because they're, they have defensive head coaches. They need an offensive head coach. Like Casey Rogers would have been fired Right? Like why is he still the defensive coordinator of the Jets? He would have been fired two years ago Just just like Cheyenne Galey was let go Right. Just like Johnny Morton last year was let go even though I don't think Jake: It's any different. It's no better. If anything it's worse. The worst part about this will be if they go and they get the flavor of the month. I just don't want them to chase the flavor of the month. Don't like... Justin: You know who we really need? But it'll never happen. Like the coup of all coups. Josh McDaniels. Jake: It'll never happen never happen, but that would be the coup that would be yeah Come on prove yourself. We've got a kid right here people They've already told him that he's got he's the head coach of the India. He took the coach job I know but then ready to go he's being paid like a head coach right now We'll pay him like a head coach to be a head coach He can sit there and bell and check shadow all he wants, but guess what buddy? Justin: You get to take over when Dolcek believes it's over. Because he ain't leaving before he thinks he can keep winning. Jake: No, and he can continue to keep winning. All right, so let's talk about this game. I guess there's any more talk about. I mean, not really. Justin: I mean, I thought the defense played great. Yes, they were really everywhere. Leonard Williams had one of his better games. Jamal Adams was literally all over the field. Jake: Miami had seven first downs. They were terrible. They could not... And this is the thing, this game was so winnable. All you had to do was not throw four picks. You could throw two, but you had to not throw four. Justin: I think Bulls lost a bit of the locker room at the end of the game. When he came out and he threw some blame at the defense, which was totally uncalled for. Well, he said we had four turnovers. They had nine. And we didn't get any ourselves. We have to do that. Right. To throw any sort of shade the defense's way during that game, when they held, and the only time that they scored the touchdown was when the offense didn't tackle the guy that picked the ball off. Right. Jake: Like if they would have maybe knocked the guy out of bounds they maybe would have held him to a field goal. Who knows? Miami had 168 total.
02 Jake: yards. Yeah, they were not good. They passed for 104. Terrible. I mean, this is the cock numbers. This is the team that you just should you should beat. They had more penalties than us. Their their third down conversions were terrible. Ours were terrible as well. And their time is this. Like we held the ball over. If you look at all those, it's like, why do we? Oh, yeah. Turnovers for turnovers. Justin: Or turnovers. One for a touchdown. And for touches the score we lost back. But yeah, I just think it's a shame that we have seemingly zero creativity anywhere on offense and I can't tell if that's... we are just not creative or... Jake: the kid is not capable. Well, it's got to be we're not creative because the kid is the whole reason of getting this kid and the whole reason he was because he was a bookworm because he was Justin: capable. He may just not be capable like right now. And again, You watch Patrick Mahomes on TV and for all intents and purposes he's played one more NFL game than Sam Darnold. But he is playing like the MVP of the league. He is lighting it up. Why? Well, he did have a season to now playing in and watch Alex Smith run it really well. and get coached the entire time. That's just one thing. Jake: But that silver lining doesn't work for us because the system we're gonna run next year is not what we're gonna run this year. No, and that's the damn shame. And sitting behind Alex Smith and sitting behind McCown is totally different things. But that's the damn shame of it is that, Justin: like is Pat Mahomes, who was by the way, not drafted number one overall, and by the way was not even the first quarterback draft. I think he was the third quarterback drafted in that draft. It's like, all right, if you took him and put him on the Jets right now, he'd probably suck. Full game center. Jake: Do you agree with that? Justin: He would probably suck. You'd be like, this guy sucks. Or you'd be like. We'll see you next time. He looks like he has flashes like Sam does. Like he can run around and he can throw the ball. Seeing, seeing. Like when I see Sam do certain things, like step through the pocket and roll in different directions and throw, like legit throws on the run, I'm like, okay, he has talent. Now he needs a system. When I watch my homes, it's like, whoa, he has all the things. He has the weapons, he has the physical ability, and his system is like fucking awesome. He's just throwing to wide open fast guys. Like, don't drop it. Yeah, throw it to the guy who's the fastest guy in the league. He's wide the fuck open. He'll just run for 80 yards. Yep, throw it to the biggest tight end in football. right who doesn't drop it. Yeah, no, just catches it. Just throw it to him. Who are they talking?
02 Jake: Who was that? We're watching those like, Oh, I was watching that Saints game. Michael Thomas. Yeah. We're like there. The Drew Brees to Michael Thomas is like 97% of their ratio. Ridiculous. You know, having talent around. This team is devoid of talent and we can all be. a no scheme. No scheme, no talent and bad coaching. We have to throw everything else out because we can't throw the baby out with the box water. So we have to throw it everything else. You cannot assume that it's Sam. Although this is where I think, where I want us to do is be like, let's not just get, let's not put too many chips because quarterbacks come and quarterbacks go. I don't want to be in a five-year position where we're sitting with a James Winston or something like that. Like, let's give him a shot, but we better see like real progress next year. Otherwise, you got to be right back in the market again. You just, you got to be able to get them out and not fall on your sword for 10 years about it. All right. I think that needs... Justin: to at least be three seasons. And this is like a, this is, again, this is Gough's rookie season. It's like, when you watch that and you and I, Jake: we're recorded saying it. That guy looks like shit. Yes. And now he looks great. Now he looks like he can't miss. Yeah, he's great. I think I was throwing the balls down. Justin: And he's really controlling the game. Yep. Like he's really running the show there. Thank you. Jake: Just like when's his third season yep But that first one was like a waste but third season we have to be looking at Sam Donald in two years and put weapons around Him and give him all the stuff and give him a coach and give him a scheme that makes him look good at that point That's when we're about the playbook is there The Rams are doing it. Justin: Oh, I'm saying the Eagles did it like the playbook. Jake: The Chiefs are doing it. They're all doing it. All the teams, all these teams in this grouping are doing it. We just have to do it as well. I do say I do not want to see my count start this week. Well, you're going to. I just I just don't. I just don't because he's your coach is he's going to fuck us. Justin: Your coach is. Fighting for his life and he wants to win football games and he's also very by the book Well, the backup is Josh McCown. So he's playing great Jake: He's gonna win a couple more games than we just gonna get hurt Well, right now then we'll get to see Davis Webb. Yes. I just don't want to win games Maybe the bills will cut Peter man and we could sign Peter man and play Peter man. Yeah Play the worst player. This is gonna be so ugly. All right, let's go. Let's get out of there. Do you have a fool? Would you like to name a fool? Yeah, the center. You're gonna name the center. Justin: I'll name Sam. Jake: Because he should've sat himself. Is it a point at which you have to know, yes, it could be Todd Bowles, but like you have to sit yourself. You have to go and say, listen, I can't perform. Justin: No player's doing that. Jake: You come out and you go, my arm is killing me. It's broken again. Justin: Once he thought he hurt his finger again, he did. He said, I hurt my finger again. And they're like, oh, that must be why you're snapping the ball.
02 Jake: He could have done that after the third good snap. Justin: He should have been fucking embarrassed out of his face. Jake: I mean, literally just have anybody there just. Hand it back. Anyway. Justin: Let's, I'm giving my fool to Sam. Guy threw four picks, man. Can't win. No, that was terrible. That was Sanchez style. All right. How did we do last week in our pick-em? Jake: Well, no, first we go to the Jet Kingdom Fantasy League into Fantasy Corner. How do we do that? And let's look at the scoreboard. Scoreboard! Pull out my phone. And you don't have. That's all for this video. to remember anything. I took on Romario and lost. So ThrewTheWeb beat me in week nine and because my team is kind of a trash fire and my team stinks too. And you lost by oh just a little bit 82 to 88 and this week let's see this week we have I play ThrewTheWire. I'm taking on Callahan same old same same darn old jets. , so I will probably says has me yet has me that better projection right now a no doesn't have to lose and is you are playing to wire and standings lies of New York tank exchange is rocking the top and through the wire in the other side, you Please. Yeah, whatever. All right, let's get to our picks and let's talk about how we did last week. I think I did terrible. I think you might've caught me up a little bit. I did awful. Oh, okay. I did really bad. Justin: I was looking, I think I got like a four or five last week. Jake: Oh yeah, I dropped down a lot. So last week I got five. I got four. So you did. Justin: Hey, I picked up a game on you. Jake: Made up a game. Sweet. That the winner had 11. Don't call it a comeback, funny enough. Now the leader is Lemon McConward Spiral. That's a good name. 11, is that like every game? No, it's not every game. Justin: There are a lot of buys. That's pretty good. Jake: Yeah, that's, let's see. That is picking. He missed, oh, I could pick the wrong guy. He missed, crap, crap, crap, crap. I have to get back to the person. Anyway, let's get to our pick up. So I'm now in fourth place, you're in ninth place. It's a really tough season for picks. But let's get to picking. Let's pick everything except for the AFC East and we'll talk about that specifically. Justin: Okay, let's get this going. So how many four o'clock's do we have? Jake: Four o'clock, oh meter is one, two, three, three. Three, not great. Okay, in our practice. We had our first flex? Yeah, next week. No, this week. This was flexed in? Oh no, you're right, yes, next week. It's the Jag steers was flexed down
01 Jake: and who was flexed up? Someone like, geez. Bears Vikings. Bears Vikings. Flexed up. Should be a good one. All right let's do it Thursday. It Justin: is Thursday so tonight Pittsburgh is hosting Carolina and the line is for Pittsburgh Home. Four points. Big Ben in prime time. Big time. Give me Pittsburgh. Jake: Oof, this is a tough pick. Justin: He's a good prime time quarterback. Jake: I'm gonna pick him to stay close. I'm gonna pick Carolina. Justin: Okay. Jake: One o'clock. We have the Bears hosting Detroit. The Bears favored by seven. I think that's too many. I'll take Detroit. Ooh, I don't think that's off at home. I feel like they're gonna do well. Detroit's a trash fire. Give me the Bears. The Saints. means. with Des Bryant at Cincinnati. The Saints coming off a big victory. They beat the Rams. Yeah. Saints are good. They're my Super Bowl pick in the NFC. Saints are good. Favored by five over Cincy in Cincy on the road. I don't care. I'll take it back. New Orleans. Nola. Don't like it. Do that. Don't like it on the road. Don't like Scentsy, I think after off a bye, if I'm right. I feel like they're gonna have a little bit of a- No AJ Green. No AJ Green. Yeah, give me Scentsy. I think they'll keep it close. Okay. Justin: Atlanta at Cleave, the Cleave, without their Hugh Jackson. I fired everybody. And Todd Haley. Um... So Atlanta at Cleveland Cleveland Cleveland's getting four and a half at home and I feel like this is one of those like We're gonna win this one type of game. So I'm gonna take Cleveland. No, no, thank you. I'll take it Jake: All right Why not fire bowls after this game? Let's say we lose this bills game. Yeah, could they fire him? Sure. Why not? Justin: Only reason why not is go by but so the only reason why not is because if you fire bulls, you probably fire Casey Rogers too, which is a defensive coordinator, or at least he leaves with him. At that point, you basically have a decision of do you take the offensive coordinator who's struggling and make him the head coach, or do you take the special teams coordinator Jake: and just make him the head coach? I would say do the special teams guy, because why the fuck not? It's not. Um, don't think the offensive coordinator should be promoted in this season. He's not really doing very well and needs to focus on the offense. Justin: So it's kind of hard. There's like not got, you don't, you don't bring in a third, like, nobody comes in to like, come on in and you know, Hey, you Jackson, you're available. Come on in. Right. Uh, that doesn't happen. You have to promote within and I don't, I don't know if they have the guy there.
02 Jake: No, I agree. I think that's the best reason not to fire him in season. It's just there's no one. First of all, the whole thing turns to a trash fire. Justin: It totally does. And you stunt the growth of certain players that you just don't want to stunt. Jake: I just don't know who we're stunting if the guy's not even playing. If he's going to be out for Justin: three weeks. It's not him, it's everybody. It is a team sport. So like if you do get rid of Todd Rogers and nobody's really running the defense. Does Jamal Adams continue to get better or does he just flounder? Jake: I almost want to just put him in a productive bubble and save him for next season. Don't let that guy to break his leg in the last game when we have four wins. All right. Let's keep going. Justin: Yep. There's no way he's sitting anyway. So no doubts. All right. Indy is hosting Jacksonville. Uh, Jacksonville coming off a bye, right? Uh, Indy's favored by two and a half. Jake: I don't... I think Jacksonville turns their season around this week. I'll take Jacksonville. I too will take Jacksonville. Too small. Give it to me. Justin: Kansas City is favored by 17 over Arizona. And it was 18. Jake: I got Kansas City, I'll tell you, they're going to win 35-10. I can't. I just this too big. 17 points. This just it's just too much. It's too much. They just score at will. It's true. It's true. But I just don't like it. I don't. It's too much. Give me Arizona. Justin: , Fits Magic almost pulled off some Fits Magic last week. Yeah. They were down by like 25 or something and and he came back, but they ended up losing predictably. So all of the same thing this week. This week, they're favored by two and a half. They'll probably end up losing by three or whatever. Jake: Doesn't really matter. I'll take Washington. I'll take Tampa Bay back at home. You have the down-fits-Bagic week, and you have the up-fits-Bagic week. I think he had the good week. Justin: They just lost because they gave up like 40 points. So their team just kind of sucks. All right, late games. We have the Chargers of Los Angeles. Yes. Jake: Oakland, who probably is the worst of the league. Justin: Yeah, because they have five first round draft picks in the next two years, and they did a good job at that, getting the first, and they didn't think with Mac, I mean, they weren't gonna win with him. Jake: Pretty clear funny. It's funny in retrospect when it happened. We're like stupid stupid. They are clearly clearing house They're doing with the gesture. They're saying hey John Gruden. You have ten years Justin: Take the first three and fuck off because until we get to Vegas. We don't really care
06 Justin: hosting Seattle and favored by 11. Jake: And I think they come out very angry. Like the defense is gonna be fired the fuck up Justin: Yeah, they need to keep Tlaib back. I think he's been out. Yep. Mark Peters got his ass burnt by Michael Thomas. Dominic and Sue, they just traded for Fowler. I think they step up and take it to Seattle. I don't think Seattle is all that good. So Rams, but I'll take them. Jake: I too will take the Rams with 11. Justin: I'm not. Not scared of these big lines this week. Jake: Well, when it's like a home team against a. A powerhouse, I don't know. Justin: All right, Sunday night, it's a good matchup because, but other than that, not a good game. Jake: And didn't Dallas just come off on Monday night? Justin: Yeah, they play in prime time all the time. And they always lose in, it's great. So got Philly at home, favored by seven over Dallas. Jake: And I like Philly. I like Philly in this one. Yeah, I thought Dallas was going to kind of turn it around. They're not turning around. Now, talk about another trash fire game Monday night. Monday night. We got San Francisco and the best rookie quarterback Justin: in the league after one game. Hosting the Giants. And San Francisco, for some strange reason, is only favored by three. I would have thought they'd be favored by, like, in the weird, like, 4 1,5, 5 area. But the Giants aren't looking to win any games anytime soon. Jake: So I'll take the Niners here. I will to take the Niners. That's a lot of agreeing. I don't like it. Yeah, you're in bad shape. I'm in bad shape. Justin: Let's get to the AFC East. Jake: So let's start with, I guess you want to start with Miami? Justin: Or New England? Jake: Let's start with, I'll start with the water we have it. Justin: Miami. So Miami's in Green Bay by 10 and a half. It's another Brock week, right? Jake: Great. Yep, another Brock. There's no Tana Hill sighting on the market. Justin: Yeah, that's not good. Jake: Yeah, it was fun having dolphin fans come after me. What not? A lot of them but one being. Oh, Sam's favorite favorite target is the Dolphins defense. I was like, yes, true. And yes, this crapshope season for us. We weren't going to win a lot. Whatever. The worst case is that he's actually hurt, which is bad. But I was like, I I'd still rather be that. I'd rather a look at my roster of the Jets and say with the future and the hundred million dollars to spend next year and the quarterback we just picked and I started building around him and fire head coach and get a new head coach.
00 Jake: than Be the Dolphins where you have a crapped owner, sorry, that owner is crapped owner. Our owner's pretty crapped too. At least he's like hands off crapped, I don't know. I think our new pseudo owner is better than our old real owner. And then, like what, your, you're like, Brock. Thanks for watching! isn't a starter on your team next year. We are back to Tannehill. He's probably still under some big contract. You're paying him $17 million a year. It's like, yeah, I still rather be the... And you're going to win a couple more games, so you're not going to even get like a top 10 pick. As it is, I think they're in the playoffs. Really? I think so. Great. Or at least they're very close. If they have a winning record... There'll be the bills of last year where they'll get to the playoffs and they'll just get destroyed by some real team. Yeah. Yeah, it's happy to do it before. Justin: I have Green Bay winning this game, hard to bet against Aaron Rodgers, having a stick last week in prime time. So I have this Green Bay 28, Miami 13. Jake: I actually picked the exact same score, so I'm gonna change it and I'll say Miami will get their 13, but Green Bay will open up the can of whoop bass on them and put up a 30 burger. Justin: Okay, then we have New England at Tennessee. Jake: How that whole Rogers Brady matchup. The two we want. We need a replacement for Peyton Manning because that was really fun and we could match them up. Didn't go didn't go so well for. Justin: Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady really even play that great. He didn't play that great, but he didn't even he didn't throw a touchdown out. Outcoached. Oh, yeah. Well, that's going to happen. It's just your own. That's just going to happen. Jake: And I didn't watch a lot of the game, but you saw if they came out and they just came out in the two minute and they just they went so fast down the field and scored a touchdown. It was like they were down there in seconds. Yeah. Like when the game started, knowing them got the ball first and. Justin: And I was sitting there with my wife who doesn't watch football at all and doesn't Like watch how fast New England just goes. Like they don't, like they have their package, they're not substituting. and you get 40 seconds in between plays and watch where that clock gets to by the time the ball snaps. He was taking like 12 seconds. Like he was just going right down the field and I was like, that is really hard to stop. Yeah. It's really hard to do. You can't get your plays in. Jake: You don't know what they're doing. You feel like, you know, you as a defense. questions. your head spinning, you can't substitute. And it's perfect. It's like you're at home on the late night game. They're like, we're just going to show you a little bit of what you're going to be. Justin: You're totally trapped because if you're in the wrong personnel, he'll just pick you apart. They don't care. They'll run it 16 times in a row and they will. Yep.
02 Justin: if you're in the wrong personnel. And if you're in the if you're in the run stopping zone, they're like, great, we're going to throw it 16 times in a row. Yep. And I've got guys over the middle with Edelman, basically a run play seven yards. Jake: It's just it's just adaptive offense that is so different. Justin: And they're doing it without guys. Like, that's why they're so great, because it's like, Gronk, who cares? Ask Sony Michelle, whatever. Like, right. Oh, my starting left tackles out. Who cares? Like, it doesn't even matter for them. And that's amazing. Jake: I don't see Tennessee getting anywhere near this. Justin: You know what? I do. No. I think this is going to be a closer game than you think. Jake: Do you know what Bill Belichick likes to do to coaches who leave him? Embarrass them. Justin: He has a respect for this one. This is a different one. This is not a man genie. He didn't fuck him over. So I think this is gonna be close. I think the wingman still wins. But I do think it'll be closer than you think. It'll be 2317. Jake: 34, 16, the Pats, I just don't see it. I just, I don't know. And Tessie doesn't have a home field advantage. They don't have, they just don't. No wind in there. Yeah, there's no home field advantage. It's all right. Justin: It's fine. Nothing special. It's on grass. Jake: It slows the game down a little. I just think they'll, I mean, I can see them winning, bye. 20 easily. Alright, well, let's talk about this game. The game of the game that is a game. That is going to be played on Sunday at one o'clock when we want or not. First of all, we get to play Peterman, which is super cool. No, it's not. It's so cool. Because now we have to play Peterman like... Why are you so... Because I don't want to play Peterman. When I don't get to see my starting quarterback. But why don't you just want... I'd rather just not even play the game. Like, can we just let them win? I don't care. Justin: Do you want to win or lose? What do you actually want the outcome of this game to be? Jake: Well, right now, being like that I'm... Right now. Right now. Right this minute. Justin: We're sitting here across from each other. Jake: I can't say I want my team to lose, but... I don't want to win with McAllen. I don't. I don't want the headline. So you'd rather them just lose? I think if it were Sam Darnell out there and I could watch him play and I'm excited about the future, I'd love to see him come out and play a great game. To see McAllen come out and play a good game and knock us down another four picks in the draft. Justin: Let me tell you what's gonna happen. McAllen's not gonna play a great game. Because Bill's defense pretty good. And the count barely practices with these guys and they're all hurt anyway. So like he doesn't really practice with these guys. You know, you have a backup center out there. You know that Anderson's not 100 percent. You know Quincy Nunez is not 100 percent. Elijah McGuire looked pretty good. That was like a little bright spot. That's a bright spot.
00 Justin: Take over that below power role. I like him. You lie, which is cool. Um, so that's good. We have him back. Um, I think. I think the defense will put on just as good, if not a better display than they did last week because they're going to get some turnovers. They're pissed. They're going to need some turnovers. They're going to sack the shit out of this guy, Peterman, and they might score. Jake: I don't think either offense will score. I think that's my prediction. You know, you might be right. Literally neither offense will score a touchdown. Justin: You might be right. I'm going to I'm going to pick. I'm going to pick the weirdest fucking score. I'm going to pick the Jets to win 17-5. Jake: So here's here's our I mean, everybody is questionable 17-5. 17-5. Oh, well, at least Spencer is questionable. I mean, everybody's everybody's special. It is. is questionable. Isn't Darnold still technically questionable? He's out. Oh, they've actually ruled him out. I mean, it's saying on there. Even talking about fuck after the bi week. Right. That's the other thing. It's like, okay, one game I'll be fine, but then I want to come back. I want to see him. These hurt. That's it. How did let's get down to the, let's get down to coaching. I don't understand. Just pop up. I don't know. He's the worst with injuries. And when Bowles says, here's a tip for you. Bird. Yes, bird. Get angry. Here's a tip for you, Bowles. Never admit that you don't know what's going on in your team. Literally, never admit it. Just say, yeah, we have to deal with that. Or yeah, that's been unexpected. But you never say, I don't know about that. Never because what makes me look like is you're not running the team You have to know what's going on in your team And if you don't lie and say, you know what's going on the team Don't tell people you don't know what's going on because it just makes you look like you have no idea and you're not head coaching You're just you're just a dude standing there Like if someone's hurt, you go, yep, we're gonna have to look into that, or we're gonna have to deal with that, or you know, well, it's just next man up. I mean, there's so many lines I can just write down in four seconds that you just say that you don't say, I don't know. Never say, I don't know. I don't know. Turn sideways, say it one way, turn the other way, say it the other way, but never say, I don't know. Justin: Say he literally has no it's next man up. That's what I would say every time Jake: Hey, did you know that Sam Donald is hurt on whatever? It's next man up. Did you know about it? We evaluate all the positions in and whatever and I'm I'm constantly in communication with our head of a whatever health and safety Where the frick the trainers that we will have a better update for you tomorrow. Like you just don't say I don't know You're fired. Oh, I want him fired. I'm now I'm now 100 percent. I mean, not pulling that center was brutal. No, I want to. Here's the thing. I want to win because I want to be at the game on Sunday. And I'm nice. And I win. And win little and be fine like whatever. But I want to see Sam play. I know it sucks. I get it. I'm with you. Blows, but guys get hurt.
02 Jake: Guys get hurt. The key is the castle is you just you just have to show up and just show up. What's your score? The way to beat the Bills at this point. I mean, this team has scored how many points in the last three games? Like 15. Yeah. They scored a touchdown, an offensive touchdown. And either have we or we've won. No, I could totally see this coming out. Actually, I'm changing my prediction. I could totally see this coming out and just being an absolute crap show. Blowout. from the Jets and it'll be and headlines will read McCown is back, McCown the savior, is Sam gonna start again? McCown's best chance to win. This is all in your head. I know, but I predict them. It's all in your head. I'm good at predicting it. It's all in your head. Justin: 31-10 Jets. Great, nobody in their right mind. We'll score on all three phases. First of all, nobody in their right mind. is gonna be like, Sam Darnold should sit the rest of the season. Yeah. What? That's not happening. Jake: They're like, you don't read the papers. They're already saying it. It's not happening. It's better than just silver lining for him to learn. No. No. It's learning. No. Silver lining is he gets to watch McCown and learn from his mistakes. And after a bad couple games, he gets to kind of ponder it on the sidelines. It's just stupid. No, that's not happening. But they're writing it. Who's writing it? Minish? Minish the fucking liar? Justin: Minish who knows nothing? Who's writing it? I have to pick up. Who are you reading? I have to pick up. Who's the author? I'll pick them up. Who's being quoted? I'll pick them up. What's the source? I'll pick up the articles. Because Minish you know makes shit up. He's been doing it for years. No, of course not. All he does is make things up. Jake: So Mark Cannanzero writes, start could give Josh McCown closure after 2007. Terry finished. Okay, that's so good. Here. Wait, hold on. Here's the other one. Justin: Here's one more start for you, douche. Yeah. Here's ESPN. Jake: Injure Sam Darnold could benefit from role reversal. Justin: Yeah, it's one game. They're not talking about the whole season. Jake: Near post. There's a silver lining to this Sam Darnold injury. Justin: Yeah. Okay. It's one game. Like, guys get hurt. Do you know who missed a game in his rookie season? I don't know. Mark Sanchez. Kellen Clemens went in and beat Carolina in Carolina and that was a big win and we finished the season 9 and 7 because we got that one win. Sanchez was 8 and 7. Kellen Clemens was 1 and 0 and we snuck into the playoffs. That actually happened. Jake: Yeah, I don't want to watch my count. Yeah, well, guess what? You have to. I don't. I can. Then don't fucking watch. I can turn around. Don't watch. Every time he's on the field. If you don't want to watch him, don't watch. No, I'm a fan of the team, not of a player. I'm going to watch the game. And you're going to root for him. Oh. Justin: You're sitting here. Jake: I might just throw him in my fantasy lineup just so I have to root for him. Do it. Okay. Justin: I just like to it. I think I might. I think you have to. I know in the league that we share a team you had currently have Sam Darnold starting at quarterback, which is not going to work.
00 Jake: No, I've already swapped him out. For who? Well, I did that week. You know, everything runs every three days and you have to pay money. So I had two other. No, I had two other players and I got more people outbid me. I was bidding like four or five bucks and someone bid outbid me. So I have another set to go tonight. All right. Frick it. All right, let's hope the Jets win. Painful. I just mean I don't mind losing all season. I just want to watch the kid. No, you do. No, not if the kids playing because if the kids playing getting better and showing us stuff and having flashes great But him sitting on the sidelines in street clothes is is not good whether he's whether he's hurt or just not playing I don't like either one of them. So no as a Jets fan. That's I don't want that at all All right, well, we'll be back. Another podcast, another week. Follow us to all the normal places. But of course, until then, and as always, let's go Jets.
