09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Justin: Welcome to Jack Keenele Podcasts, Long as Running New York Jets Podcasts, ever, ever. Joining me for the 146th time, my good buddy Justin, header of all things, oh, clink, there we go. Hater of all things, Tebow. Oh, that's unfair. Not anymore. Oh really? I don't hate his uniform anymore. That's true. Alright, well, it's the middle of the week. On pretty much a slow week, but we have some things to discuss. We do. As we kind of predicted, we would. So, let's head into it. We have an agenda, I'm not going to read it off, because we'll talk about it. Well, maybe we'll talk a little bit about the schedule that was or wasn't. Curtis Martin and Hall of Fame choices. We got the draft which we'll talk about We'll go over some draft stuff. We'll also set up what we'll talk about next week on our draft episode talk maybe about Sanchez and Holmes Hayden Smith and There's a poll out on whether do people prefer Sanchez or Tebow interesting start Interesting. We'll talk about that. And then we have some of the jets hire somebody. Don't know if I really care, but we'll also talk about some tweets and questions. We missed some from last week and we got some new ones this week. Oh wow. And we'll add in our new section, which, Big Rex Ryan loves us. What is it, like, fuck you or fuck you to somebody? F you the media. Oh, fuck you the... We have to pick a media... Person we're gonna run out of these that that we have to give an F you to for the week now pick him Take rags right? No, he's not a media person. He's on Twitter Twitter person. All right, so Really's on Twitter first thing He's fake. Yeah first of all Speaking of fake fake that's how I did that I did that to make you look good. I was a segui The schedule that we discussed last week? I even said it. I said this isn't real. New schedule to come out, either today didn't come out or next Tuesday. I thought it was next week. Next Tuesday. There were a Wednesday. No, that is the draft. No, I thought the draft's in two weeks. No, this was the 14th. Then the next two weeks. Oh, okay two weeks. We got two weeks. Okay, great So then we don't have to talk about the draft. You know, we'll talk about schedule next week Yeah, they all don't drop the week after that. We'll just talk about the draft sprinkled in here and there But here's the deal that schedule that we were picking apart and what did we like and what didn't we like?
04 Justin: Doesn't matter. I was so excited. I did not like that. I was so excited to go to seattle But you still know you can go to Seattle because if the Seattle is like a game that's like it's in a bad time of the year It was a great time of the year. Here's the thing. I didn't like Two stretches in that schedule. So I'm glad that that's not the real schedule. I didn't like it All right when it comes out next week when we come back to podcast will discuss Did you like the old schedule better or the new schedule? I will compare them. All right side by side. All right. All right next up Curtis Martin chooses Bill Parcells to be his Announcie at the Hall of Fame. Yeah, this is this is an of course. Yeah, of course he did So that was his guy they were each other's guy. Yeah, so exciting So do you think if Parcells gets in next year the year after yeah, do they keep choose? He might he was really one of his guys like his car was really Curtis Martin was one of his like One of his guys that he you know, he really liked there a couple of them though. Well, I tell was one He pulled down the pepper Johnson I mean he won Super Bowls with him There were a couple of jets like Jason Ferguson. He dragged around around to like two other teams But I think Curtis Martin was like of a stature Odds are there be some there'll be some guy who influenced Parcells in some way that nobody knows about that will probably invite him. This is just makes my road trip to Canton. If you end up actually going, I don't know if you're actually going or not, but if you end up actually going, we got to do some some podcasting on our way. On the way? Well, in the car? Well, no, but like before we go during. Oh, yeah, whatever. Live interviews with Curtis Martin? Uh, maybe. Maybe not. Alright, so that's kind of cool. I'm just very excited. Again, before this whole T-Boe thing happened, before we got T-Bowed, the whole thing got T-Bowed, I was really hoping that this Curtis Martin thing, like getting a jet inducted into the Hall of Fame for the first time in a billion years, was going to be like a kickstart to this season to make this season special. and this whole T-bo thing happened, now I fucking think we're in a circus, but maybe it'll bring it back. So anyway, um, let's talk about some... Let's talk about... you want to talk about some draft next? Let's talk about these other little issues, because they're just little things we can pound out of the way. Little itty bitty things? Yeah, let's do it. So Sanchez and Holmes working out in Florida, do we care? Yes, I care. I care very much. I think it's great. They didn't get to work out last year because of the... Well, they actually did. They worked out a couple times. Sanchez pulled together some things, but I don't think Holmes was there because he was a free agent. And he wasn't on the team. Jake: And they were locked out. Justin: No, he wasn't. I know he wasn't. This is good. This means they weren't as bad as people thought they were. Maybe they were, but they're gonna be better.
00 Justin: Listen, this is like, go in your fucking room and work it out. They're gonna be fine. I'm gonna pay you $8 million and I'm gonna pay you $8 million. $10 million getting a fucking run and work it out and I like when the quarterback can throw to the receivers You know a little bit. I I know next week is when the doors open for OTAs and things like training and you can actually attend the You know the doors open at the at the Jets facility. Mm-hmm. This is a little pre a little before Don't think they do like football activities necessarily I think they do like strength and conditioning stuff when they eventually get to go to the Training camp or the OTAs or whatever like the coaches aren't even allowed to be there Just the strength and conditioning people are allowed to be there. So But this is good Sanchez should be thrown to homes and from what I understand They're doing it just the two of them now, but there might be a few others Turner and Joe McKnight might be joining them nice. Oh, yes. How could that be bad? How I mean unless they like just start fist fighting like how could that be a bad thing? They should just hug him hug it out. All right, Tebow's not there. Yeah next up speaking of Tebow. You're on it today a Quinnipack University poll released Monday showed that New York State residents and the state's football fans were fine with the trade for Tim Tebow, but they strongly felt that Sanchez was the best option. So here's the stats. He's already smart fans. 43% of all respondents said Sanchez should start. 43% against 16% for Tebow. It does seem okay it's better, but then who do I don't even want to start. Yeah, the divide grew even further with Sanchez picking up 61% of voters to T-Bose 19 When they were when football fans responded to the same question. That's good So that's now. I imagine that that's like I Guess the rest of the people just said I don't know because right well They said are you a football fan? That's one of the well 43 to 16 was non football fans Which means that there's a good chunk of people who just said I'm not a football fan Right answered anyway, right which makes no sense. Hey, well, they're just T-bo fans. They're just well No, they're just they still had the Sanchez. Maybe they could be T-bo fans who are reasonable It's kind of oxymoron not gonna happen. All right, so interesting. I'm a little surprised I would have I would have thought that the craziness had already reached the highest levels, but apparently not so Good on them for doing that. Great. Next up, we signed, we actually missed this last week in our thing, but we signed Hayden Smith, our second Aussie footballer. Yeah, so who was the guy? Ben Graham, our punter. He was, I think it was Cardinals last year, or Saints, not Saints. I don't even know if he's still in the league. Oh, he was, I saw him punting last year. I don't remember, I know he's with... Arizona for a little while he might still be with Arizona not sure but this guy is not a kicker
05 Justin: he's a He's projected to potentially be a tight end. They don't know. Yeah, they don't know. They don't know what he's an athlete Yeah, he's a big dude you can run fast and it's kind of the Antonio Gates theory of here's this guy who never played football 6 foot 7 240 he's a big frickin dude big motherfucker and you know Gates never didn't play football he played basketball and then you know he became one of the best tight ends one of the more prolific tight ends, you know, ever to catch the ball. So the idea is let's see if we can just get this big, strong, fast dude, throw him at tight end and see what he can do. Personally, I don't think we're going to see him do shit this year. Really? Yeah, no, no, no. Not at all. Like this is a project. Like even Jimmy Graham didn't have a good like rookie season. Right. Yeah, but this guy he's not a rookie. He's a rugby rookie. He's a but he's never played football Yeah, but he played with a ball But and not his own but like, you know, Jimmy Graham played basketball Antonio Gates played basketball it took there's more similarities between between football and rugby than there are basketball football I don't know. I mean really there's more similarities, but it's a completely different game still and tight ends not a simple position It's not, you know, you have to, you know, go in motion. You have to run patterns, catch the ball. You have to block. Like you have a lot of things you need to do as a tight end, as opposed to, you know, receiver. Run, get open, catch. Tight ends like go in motion most of the time. Run block, read who you're supposed to block. Pass block. Run fast, catch. Run over people. There's a lot to it. You know, it's not it's not a similar. It's not a simple position. I don't think So I don't expect a whole lot out of this guy. It'll be fun You know if we're on hard knocks to see the Australian guy, it'll be fun to see him develop It'll be fun to watch him in the preseason. See if he can do anything I think it'll be interesting to see if we could develop him because he has physical attributes So, sounds like to me, so now I'm gonna flip it. Fantasy. In the draft. Yeah. He's around. What round would you pick him up if at any? I wouldn't. Not at all. Not in his project. It would depend. I'm running a fantasy team. I don't have the ability to do projects. They have to either be good or not. It's a waiver type of project. If I watch the preseason and he looked good... Might pick them in one of the last rounds or two just to Stash and you know odds are you're cutting your last few round picks anyway at the first three weeks to break up somebody so Particularly, you know in a keeper league, but again, you know the Jets have Dustin Keller they're talking about extending them
04 Justin: It's not like they're not gonna have a you know Hernandez Gronkowski thing going here in New York. They're not Yeah, let's not put this guy on that pedestal. So moving on from the segui, which is a good one, not on the agenda, we're gonna bring it up. Rumor has it Rex Ryan, not the fake one, but the real one doesn't want to do hard knocks. Good for him. Really? Yeah. Like you're doing total reversal now? You kind of said he was gonna do that at the end of last year. He said he doesn't want a circus atmosphere. He said that last year at the end of the year. I'm like, I'm all ready for the circus. I've got my tickets At the end of last year he said I'm I'm I'm a little too outspoken. I'm too out there It's not the right thing to do but I'm all in I want that shit That shit is like you said. I just wanna go to Selfish. It is. It is. It's crack. It's crack. It's crack. It's crack. Well, I watch it anyway. I don't care who it is, but the Jets just makes it that much better. I wouldn't watch anybody else. You wouldn't? Maybe. Oh, come on. Really? I like all the teams. Have you ever watched another season of Hard Knocks? Yes. I watched The Chiefs with her Medwords because it was her Medwords. You never watched any of the Cowboys ones? Or any like the Bengals one was really good without you asking me. No The Ravens woman is very good. I'm a Jets fan. Don't watch other fucking teams. Don't care. Alright, so let's get on. Last piece of little tiny news. Hold on, I want to talk a little bit more about this Sanchez thing with Tebow. What? No, what? No, no, no. We're moving on. Because we've got a lot to talk about in the draft. We really don't. The Jets have hired a team president. Who gives a shit? Neil Glatt. Great. Neil O'Donnell? channel. Anyway, he's a NFL executive. Kinda interesting. He comes from the NFL. Yawn. Alright. Who gives a shit? Eh, it's news. Umm... Alright, you wanna go more on T-Bo and Sanchez? Woah! A little bit. There's two things. So... Oh, you're gonna tell a story. Well, I was gonna tell a story, but before I do that, I was watching ESPN earlier in the afternoon. Can you tell me a story? And, um... You know, the Herm Edwards was on and they were talking about the Jets and he was saying, you know, someone needs to step up and be a leader. And they were talking about like Tebow and Sanchez. He's like, Tebow has these great leadership capabilities and he's a natural leader. And Sanchez, you know, he's... We'll see if he could step up and do that. And then I thought to myself, I said, self, why the fuck? Does the leader have to be the quarterback? Like why is that an absolute... The leader has to be the quarterback? What did the self say? Self said, you know what? The leader doesn't have to be the quarterback. It... On the Jets, in all reality, the leader of that team should be a defensive player. It should be like Bart Scott if Bart Scott wanted to step up and be like the leader
06 Justin: should be It should be like about yeah the Ray Lewis I think about the Ravens and I'm like Joe Flacco is not the leader that team No, he's not the leader. You know, who's the leader? fucking Ray Lewis. You know who's the leader of the Giants? Justin Tuck. It's not Eli. It's not Eli. I mean he's kind of but he's not. It's Justin Tuck. But remember back in the day when that's what they used to say against he wasn't the leader in the locker room and they used to get all up and stuff. And then now I think about it's like you know and that's bullshit like just because you know. Uh, Peyton Manning's the leader and Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees, you know, and I think the Tom Brady, the quarterback. You mean all these people win Super Bowls? But it's not a mutually exclusive thing. The Ravens won Super Bowl with Trent Delfer as their quarterback. Not the leader of the team. He was an awesome leader. But they didn't win a Super Bowl with the quarterback. They won a Super Bowl with a defense. Great. That's what I think the Jets should be. That's how we're gonna win. Dues flash. Jets are gonna win with their defense. That's how we won the last couple years. Defense. That's why we didn't win last year. I don't think he has to be the leader like that. Like you're saying, you know, what you've lifted off those... But I don't... I mean, I think of... I think of... I think of teams. I think of Tom Brady. Let's talk Tom Brady. I don't... There's nothing in, I've watched tons on him, he is the leader because he is a winner. He wasn't the leader when they were younger, when he was younger. I know, but that's the point. His leadership has come through his winning. He's not Drew Brees who's going, who dat on the side? And he's not... you know, Peyton Manning who's, you know, got the brain and he can go out there and he leads the whole offense. He's a guy who I think has gained his leadership through being there for seven, eight, ten years, where I've always been there, and because he's winning championships. So he's the leader of the offense and he's the leader. I honestly think that Sanchez just needs to be a leader. He has to be the leader. He has just to be a leader. He has to be someone who will... When the shit hits the fan, you gotta look at Sanchez and go, you're gonna get us out of here, as opposed to, where's Ray Lewis? Like, Ray Lucas, Ray Lewis, either one. If they say, where's Ray Lewis? That's the problem. And I think that's the problem with the Ravens. Look at all the press that went into when they got the playoffs. It's like, how is Joe Flacco gonna stop us from getting any farther in this playoffs? off. And I watched the playoffs because I love me some playoffs and Every time it's like it was like How is Joe blacko gonna fuck up this game? It's like this it was a joke and I get he's not the greatest and he shows moments of like just stupidity
03 Justin: But he is not the leader and you look at other teams that like are winning I don't know, I feel like I think he needs to be, here's my thing, what they're saying or what I'm interpreting them saying, and fuck you, Herman Edwards, we're talking against the test. Oh, there it is, fake Craig. There it is. There it is. He just needs to be more of a leader. You need to get the sense from the locker room. If the locker room's breaking up, it needs to be on him. He's got it, he's young, and I think having people who are 10, 5, 10 years old in him is probably tougher. And we have people like LT in there who's who's got a long history. He will get his leadership through winning. He'll get his leadership through being there longer. Some of the leaders who leave our team have been there for a long time. They get their leadership because they've been there. Because they've got a, you know, I've been there the longest, I'm the leader. So I don't think it's a personality thing. I think it's a being 24 year old. in a organization and he's got to earn his chops and when he does he'll be a leader. I you know the other day I was talking to a friend and no I'm just giving you the way to go to do your story. Yesterday a friend of mine who lives uh he lives in Florida he lives near Gainesville, which is where Florida University is, where Tubo played. And he was there. Who is this T-Bo you speak of? This guy is Jesus. He just lost basically half our fans. Yeah, we did. He lived there during the time when T-Bo was at Florida and winning national championships and Heisman Award trophies. And he's a big Bills fan. He grew up near Buffalo. And one of the people who I used to go to Bills games with when they played the Jets and we had a nice fun little rivalry. And we're texting back and forth last night and he asked me so Who do you think should be your starting quarterback Tebow or Sanchez? And I said Sanchez without a doubt that's the devil's question you ever asked me and he said he said that's the right answer I said well, of course, it's the right answer Jake: Tebow's a terrible quarterback just came out of my mouth Justin: And we went back and forth. He's like, I love the kid Tebow but You're right, he's not like this is a Bills fan. He's like, I'm not trying to put the double reverse jinx on you He's like I'm way more scared of playing a team led by a real quarterback in Mark Sanchez Then Tim Tebow who's like a gimmick quarterback and a whole game of it You can totally for it And if you don't have like Jesus magic going against you you'll likely to win the game Here's what I want. I want a little bit of Jesus magic and Sanchez to be the quarterback. Can I get a little bit of Jesus magic? Well, hopefully. I don't know if Jesus magic works in little sprinkles. Why not? I want to sprinkle a little Jesus magic. He might be mad at you and be like, You are not using my son properly.
01 Justin: By the way, the title of this podcast just got done. Jesus Magic? Sprinkle Jesus Magic. All right, well, that's interesting. I must say... But this is something... He's like, I love them. I watched them play in college. I loved them. You know, and then our conversation went off to talk about the Bills and how the Bills actually seem like they might be a pretty decent team. Really? Do you think offensive they're gonna be decent? Why? I think they were decent last year. I think it came out Fitzpatrick was injured You know, they lost Freddie Jett That's a bunch of injuries that happened to them But their offense was really good and their defense just got stacked Right, like they added they added two good players Yeah, well two good players up front that get pressure on the quarterback you get pressure on the quarterback Yeah, your defense is good. That's it. Yeah You know, that's what the Giants did right? They just they were able to get pressure on the quarterback It's not like they had the greatest Defensive backs in the world or the greatest lot they picked a guy off of out of a grocery shop in like week 11 To start playing middle linebacker. All right, speaking of of draft. I disagree with this article that we're looking at. Alright, so I got an article on this Sports Illustrated article of needs, team needs, in the AFC. The AFC team needs. And they list the Jets and here's what they list. Well, that's what we're gonna talk about. I'm listing them one through three. Wide receiver, safety, outside linebacker. Agree or disagree with wide receiver as a need as number one disagree Well, this might not be the draft order. This is just a neat one It's one two three that if that's not first it could have been it could have been bullet bullet bullet, but it's one two three Okay, I read that as first need wide receiver. Oh Disagree, but it's not maybe the first draft first pick whatever. Okay. I don't agree that the wide receiver position is our first need Here's why. Okay, yeah I I'm thinking. I am opposed to drafting wide receivers in the first round. I don't Sink there's any such thing as a surefire absolute LÜT going to be good wide receiver that you can project in the NFL because there's so many like Circumstances that go into what they do in college and then what they can do on the field like for every You know Calvin Johnson who's drafted early, you know, there's there's a or whoever else the four other guys Detroit drafted in the first round in the top 10. And then there's a Victor Cruz. And then there's a Wes Welker. And then, you know, there's guys who just sort of come out of nowhere and they're awesome, right? Like, I just don't think wide receivers should be first round. Yeah, but there's Julius Jones. I mean, first round. Julio Jones? Julio Jones.
00 Jake: He's a rookie. Who knows? Justin: He might be good. He might not. He was good last year. Got hurt a bunch. Oh, yeah, it's true. All right. So if you're gonna rank them I would rank it just these three. Well, do you read that these are three the top three needs? No, I drafted I draft an offensive lineman in the first round offensive lineman. Okay, so you don't even think this is our top three needs I would draft the best available offensive lineman at 16 Wherever we pick 16 I'd pick There's that guard that they're Costanza or whatever out of Stan out of Stanford I like this guy's great But nobody picks guards in the top 16 who gives a fuck if he's a great guard And he could play for 12 years as a guard like we picked a center in the first round Nick mangled I'm fucking glad we did it like we're gonna be a ground and pound run up your ass team We need some guys who are better than Matt Slauson out there. We need some guys who are better than Wayne Hunter Hunter out there. We just I think actually Wayne Hunter signed with another team No, that was the Rob Turner. Oh, sorry with big boys. He went with Callahan, but Or wherever he went st. Louis or wherever you don't even agree that wide receiver safety now So let them so you're saying I want an offensive lineman Then I would go some mix of safety outside linebacker. Probably safety. Safety. Safety first. Yeah, I mean, we have two good safeties and two I think. Where do you where do you how do you account for good? I'm saying Jim Leonard. Jim Leonard's not on the team. Well, if we get him back. Well, you can't count him. Okay, true. Doesn't exist. Eric Smith's no good. Eric Smith no good. Ronald Andrews is an injury risk. So that's why I put safety at that. But then, see to me, again, there's also, there's value and then there's where they're going to get picked up. If that offensive lineman wouldn't get picked up in the first round and you can pick him the second, then pick the safety in the first. But if you can't pick him in the second. Right. Well, that's a gamble. for example. I don't fat guys. I feel like you can get some good big fat guys I don't know we can fly to cost in the second round I didn't work out very well like if there's a surefire Offensive lineman like there was with d break and like there was with mangled Why not? Why not put them in why not stick them right in there more is getting old on the right guard and Slauson's not very good and he just had a huge shoulder surgery he might not even be ready I would draft that guy cause we're gonna run like I think we're gonna run we better be running and if we run back Oh, never in the first round, never. Second round, third round? Third or fourth, just pick a guy. Another big guy. Just pick a dude you never know. Look Sean Green, whatever. Just pick a guy in the third round, might be good. I'm not sure about it. Curtis Martin wasn't a first round pick. Second or third round pick. All right, well, so let's talk about
01 Justin: what we're gonna do for the draft. Are we going to do a mock draft? left. A mock draft? Are you fucking nuts? Yes, well not a full mock draft but a Jets mock draft. Meaning here's where our picks and here's where we're gonna pick in those positions. Yes, the answer is yes. Like a position or a player? A name. A player. Do I have to come up with a name? Yes, a name. In the seventh round? No. For all ten picks? Yeah, first five- There's ten fucking picks! First five rounds. Oh my god. Five players. Mock draft. I'll do the first round. No, two weeks. No, first round. I'm not talking about doing the whole thing. Just Jets. Jets first round. Yeah, I'll do the Jets first round. That's one pick. I'll give you five names for the Jets first round. No, no. Because I'm not going to know anybody in the fifth round. Do your homework. I'm going to look and see who anybody else picked and I'm going to pick that person. That's fine because that's the way you roll. That's stupid. All right, but that's we're doing in two weeks next week. We're gonna talk about the schedule this week Do we do any tweets we got that we want? Yeah, we got tweets. All right Jake: You they don't tweet me. Oh, well, they love me Justin: Let's see what we got one last week. We didn't answer So let's uh, we did are the Jets the most underrated team in football just now. I'm on them rated Yeah, I saw them rated 20th in power rankings recently. Yeah, that's underrated. 20th ain't right. That's not right. Really? For an 8 and 8 team? Yeah, that's not right. I don't know if that's that wrong, but it doesn't seem to be... I don't think that's right. To me, 20th. I mean, this is a team that... 8 and 8... It's not like they were, you know, or they were, you know, seven to nine. And it's not the same eight and eight as if like the Bills went eight and eight. Eight and eight losing the second half of the year, locker room problems. I guess I'd want to see like where is like San Diego ranked. in that list. Doesn't matter. Well, that's like a comparable team. I feel like the jet, well, they're not in the top 10. No. So they're somewhere between 10 and 20. They're not in the bottom 20, bottom 30. So not 20 to 30, right? You agree? So somewhere between 10 to 20. Right. Jake: Yeah, I think that's about right. Justin: Let's put them between 12 and 20. Let's put them outside the playoffs. I'd put them below 15. in. Hey, I think they were right on the cusp of being like, you know The teams that missed the playoffs they were one of the better three or four teams that missed the playoffs Which would put them somewhere in the 12 to 15 Yeah, I don't know I I I was a roller coaster season they were eight and five So like what does that say is that say they were an eight and five team and then they lost three in a row Made a mate Nate. Yeah, it's horrible. So is that like they were good and then they were horrible. Does that like Like if they were five and eight and then they went eight Nate does that make them better? Yep So, I don't know rank at the end of the season better than to be in the season Well, they had a hard schedule at the end of the season. Yeah, so then we choked
03 Justin: I would say 20 is a little underrated. I'd put them somewhere closer to 15 Yeah, I'm gonna put him at 15. 15 to 18 doesn't really matter. I'd say more like 18, but 20's not a far reach.
